Today is Utapri's 14th anniversary, and we've gotten some more information about previously announced Shining Live Memorial Books, Nnintendo Switch port, and a new set of collection cards.

Shining Live Visual Collection Cards

Not much known at the moment, but it looks like there will be some kind of special bromide set using artwork from Shining Live

Scheduled to begin release in Winter of 2024 (Japan time). More information will be revealed at a later date. You can find the official website here.

Shining Live Archive Book

*Some information may be incorrect. Please check for yourself!

The memorial books will be released as a 7 volume series, and will contain "various visuals and costume designs" from Shining Live.

They will be sold individually and as sets at Broccoli and Animate's online stores. They are A4 size, hardcover, and around 300 pages per volume. Each individual volume is approximately 1.2kg, and 6600 Yen.

The release dates and set prices for the volumes are:

Volume 1 and 2 - 13,200 yen. Releases October 31, 2024.

Volume 3 and 4 - 13,200 yen. Releases February 27, 2025.

Volume 5, 6, and 7 - 19,800 yen. Releases May 7 2025.

Each volume contains content from a different year of the games time in service:

Volume 1 - August - December 2017

Volume 2 - January - December 2018

Volume 3 - January - December 2019

Volume 4 - January - December 2020

Volume 5 - January - December 2021

Volume 6 - January - December 2022

Nintendo Switch Port

*Image is from the official staff blog and is still under development. Not much information was revealed. It has only been confirmed that they are still planning on porting "various content" from the app to the Nintendo Switch.

It's unknown if this would be a standalone switch game, or if it may somehow be tied to the release of Dolce Vita, which was also confirmed to still be in the works.

A limited time Piece Gacha series titled "Stage for Myself" will be added in the future and available one after another. According to the announcement on the anniversary website, in this gacha you'll be able to "obtain live costumes that match each idol's solo song."

Hello! I'm here to nerd out about UtaPri.

He/him, based in Japan. I'll go by Niji for the purposes of this blog.

I've been into UtaPri since about 2018, when I saw someone on a train playing a game that looked like Love Live! but had dudes, which I wasn't aware was a thing that existed. A few Google searches later, I'd discovered Shining Live and my life was forever changed.¹ I fell out of the fandom for a bit with the end of SL, but now I'm back and pumped for Live Emotion.

I've done a bit of a deep dive into lore, and even dabbled in translation a bit in the past, though there are certainly more knowledgeable folks than me out there.

HEAVENS and QUARTET NIGHT are constantly vying for the top position in my heart, but STARISH always brightens my day as well. Similarly, my primary oshis are Yamato and Ai,² but I've got soft spots for several of the others, and I find something to love in all of them.

I'm definitely not a yume (yume-dan? oji?), though I salute all the princesses out there, and I cheer every time Reiji says "my boys." I am a bit of a shipper, but honestly my favorite parts of the franchise are the frameworks of intense platonic relationships that hold it up.³ That's probably part of why Shining Live and now Live Emotion hold my attention so well.

I write UtaPri fic sometimes, though I'm keeping it separate from the rest of my AO3 account at present. I'm in the process of getting it together in a way others can see while keeping it anonymous.

I am an adult, and this blog might have adult content. It'll generally be writing and outside links to writing, rather than art, though.⁴ Either way, I intend to keep this blog's label and tagging on the safe side. Assume this space isn't for kids.

¹ No, I'm not joking, though at times I might've wished I were. ² Another of my all-time faves is Kaoru. Like I said, I've done some deep dives. ³ Those of you familiar with Japanese might have figured out that my username is a bit of a pun. 普段/腐男. I think I'm hilarious. ⁴ Unless you count the Egoistic outfits as age-sensitive, which, they're wearing shirts under all those harnesses, so I figure it's probably safe. Actually, come to think of it, there are some pretty intense necklines sometimes, and then there's that one Ren album cover...well. Suffice to say it probably won't get too visually horny in here, though evidently I can make no promises.

It's been 3 whole years since I've gotten into Utapri and met the love of my life!!

And what better way to celebrate than to have a final Live Show to commemorate not only our 3rd Year Anniversary together but to also Shining Live's closure! For many it's been a long journey, but for me it feels like my journey is still only beginning. I'm excited for the many many years that follow and for the new tiddings that will be ahead. With Natsuki by my side, I know no matter how hard it gets, it'll be breeze just having someone so positive, supportive, and the one I can call my husband.

I love you, Natsuki, you're my most adored constellation, my universe, and my guiding light.

Thank you for being in my life 💙🌙

Ooohhh, I really can't believe that Shining Live is going to be shut down completely :')

I know for many fans, like me, also got into the series through the rhythm game on the app store. Had it not been for me giving idol games a chance, I never would have met Natsuki. He was the positive person I really needed in my life when I felt like I was so out of place. He got me to be so much kinder, he helped me be much more positive. If there was anyone that made me have a goofy grin 24/7 it was him!!

But as we all know, not everything lasts forever. With the same rhythm game being shut down last year I was absolutely devastated. It was very jarring for me to realize that a certain part of my life was officially over. Not by my choice however, it shook many MANY fans. Not just me, so many of us really did enjoy being able to log in in the morning, their favorite boy greeting them with a good morning. Even now I can still remember Natsuki's cute yawn and telling the sweetest good morning. The occasional him asking me not to hog the blanket. I really do miss it. Not to say that I miss the game in its entirety, gacha can go to hell or whatever but, a lot of us really felt connected to our guy cause it really felt like we were sharing our days with them.

And so I tried joining the JP version of the app, it was still up but many of us didn't have hopes that their version was gonna last for much longer. I quickly dropped the app cause it just wasn't the same. The language barrier was too great, so it really did hinder what I was trying to get back. And it doesn't help that we were right. Nearly exactly after the 1st anniversary of EN's shut down announcement, JP recieved theirs. No matter how much they spend on the game, it's bound for its end. While the pain of the loss wasn't as great as the first, it was still so hard for us to grapple with the fact that this is officially an end of an era.

My feelings for today are a bit of a mixed bag, but overall, just as Natsuki would want for me, I'll do my best to smile through it and be happy. It's our day! It's our day of coming together, and we'll be expecting new tidings! This isn't the end, but rather a start for something new!

So let's celebrate! Happy 3 year anniversary, Natsuki! Let's be together always!! 💛💛💫

The Final Broccoli Shareholder Meeting ☆

I had originally written the below portion for Mia's 10th Uta no Podcast episode: Music Talk, as she tends to go over occurrences and fandom news that have come out between episodes toward the end of the show. However, considering the nature of the news, I felt it would be good to also share part of the transcript here so that those who do not listen to the show, or may not know otherwise, can get a better understanding as to what's been going on.

Broccoli held their 29th stakeholder meeting on May 26th, 2023, resulting in much controversy within the Utapri fandom. It is believed that around 160-170 people were in attendance; and from my understanding of this thread by @active_cns_N, Broccoli as a company has fostered a culture of allowing fans to interact directly with their staff at these meetings to discuss topics outside of just management policies, which is customary in this kind of gathering. Because Broccoli will be delisting themselves from the stock market, this would be their final public shareholder meeting. Please keep in mind that the information detailed in this summary are consolidated from various tweets that came from the attendees themselves, and no minutes have been released as of writing this document. As a result, there may be some things that may need clarification or amendment at a later date. 

In any case, it is believed that Broccoli were expecting to be answering questions regarding the Happinet acquisition considering their lack of preparedness, vagueness, and overall lacking responses regarding Dolce Vita, Backdol and Utapri as whole. These subjects took up most of the duration for the meeting. In fact, I believe it was mentioned that only one question regarding the acquisition was asked throughout the entire meeting, which may have been a shareholder asking if Broccoli was intentionally sabotaging themselves so that Happinet's tender offer could get to 1,500 yen and allow for an easier acquisition. The current President affirmed that no such actions were taking place.

This would be a good segway to mention that the current President of Broccoli is Shigeki Suzuki who served as director and senior managing executive officer at Happinet, being appointed back in April of 2022. The chairman and executive director of Broccoli are also previous Happinet employees.

At this time, it seems there is only one female executive in the company and she is believe to be the producer responsible for overseeing the Utapri project. There are no women currently on the board of directors.

Now for what everyone's been waiting for: As supporters of Uta no Prince-sama, what do we need to know?

♫ Dolce Vita is still in development and Broccoli asserted that it will see a release date; they explained that the reason development on the game slowed to a crawl had to do with having few staff members who are well-versed in the world of Uta no prince-sama and that with the expansion of the movie projects, Shining Live and SSS among other things, it has been difficult to allocate resources to Dolce Vita. The discontinuation of the PS Vita game console also had a huge impact on DV's development. Broccoli emphasized that they want to carefully craft a game they feel the fans will be satisfied with and are very cognizant of its significance and want to be careful with the product they end up releasing. They also declined to say specifically if there would or would not be new information coming out on the 13th anniversary.

♯  It's been brought to light after the meeting that Broccoli currently has up to five (5) different job postings on their site directly related to Utapri in some capacity, like the hiring of a content director, graphic designer, and staff for scenario direction and writing among other roles.  ♯  It's also worth mentioning that historically, the writing for the Utapri games have largely been outsourced to other companies. It wasn't until ASAS that the content was produced in-house.

♫ The title of Uta no Princess-sama from Uta no Princess-sama: Back to the Idol will not be changed, and that after an internal discussion on the matter, did not see the reason to change it and stand firm with Agematsu's vision for the project. They maintain that there will be no crossover between the franchises.

♯ When asked exactly what to expect from Backdol, and why there was a severe lack in quality for their recently released videos (like the recently published Golden Week series), Broccoli only answered the question in part and said they are "making efforts to improve the quality of their videos".

♫ Broccoli was also asked why Backdol and Utapri were so similar despite having nothing to do with each other and asked if their neglect for female-oriented content despite their enthusiasm towards male-oriented IPs had to do with the lack of women among the board of directors. Their response is as follows: On the similarities between Backdol/Utapri: The company does not perceive it to be that way. On the lack of women among the board: While there are no women among the board of directors, they do have a female executive officer (likely referring to Sayaka Konno) who is involved in the development of concepts. Within the company, women also outnumber men in middle management positions and female employees are constantly involved in projects such as Utapri. The prospect of a female on the board is welcome and desired, but they do not consider appointments solely on gender alone. Again, because of the amount of women in the company, it is only a matter of time before some of them transferred to director or executive officer positions. They also emphasized that the opinions of female staff are more readily accepted and incorporated compared to their male counterparts when it comes to content creation. All of this to say that the company feels they are not inhibiting their voices.

♫ When it comes to the mishandling and lack of sufficient stock for event merchandise, Broccoli could only conjure a vague response stating they will "make efforts to improve the situation"

♫ Broccoli has plans for upcoming Birthday celebrations but would not say exactly what. They also did not have anything to say regarding the apparent discontinuation of the Birthday Collection series.

That is as much information as I can remember to include at the moment and am unsure if anything was missed, so anyone with more to share, please don't hesitate to correct or add to in the chat or comments below.

There is much to be said about the acquisition because of Happinet's apparent limited understanding of otome or romance content and Broccoli's responses in general but all I can hope as an enthusiast of the franchise is that it all turns out for the best.

With the Live Emotion theme song CD being released on the 12th of June, and Utapri's 14th anniversary on the 24th of June, I wonder if that could be a fitting date to see the game released in Japan, exactly one year after it was initially announced - on the 13th anniversary in 2023.

For reference, Shining Live was released on the 28th of August, 2017.
