This ask isn't directly for Wilbur or the blog, but rather the person who runs this. A bit of an ooc ask about world building and expanding this universe since I'm invested

Are we as the audience perceived as people in this universe watching this show/documentary about Utah at our homes, sending in questions via telephone. Or are we just random people that show up in the gas station and keep coming back one by one at random times to talk about the "Dabi cosplayer". (I'd like the imagine the second one; just a but of faceless people pressed up against the glass outside asking the weirdest questions. Fits the vibe)

Do you, the owner of this blog, have a part to play in the universe? Are you the director to the show, a main camera man, or something else.

The fanart that's made for this blog, I'd like to imagine it's—again—just faceless people running up and slapping drawings they make on the convince store windows and running off, leaving the producers and Wilbur with it. Stuff like that :]

Im gonna be honest I said I was gonna do author q&a today specifically so I could answer this ask because I feel weird just answering it willy-nilly

I tend to be... pretty bad at storytelling. I always get wayyy too into my own head, and things get so complicated to a degree where only I can understand whats going on, which is something im obviously trying very hard to avoid. However I don't wanna sacrifice the story I want to tell, so I'm just doing my best here.

One of the biggest limitations right now is that I'm just struggling to explain exactly how the world works/the translation between "Utah" and irl/us. The biggest ones are time and what exactly is being aired, because obviously it doesn't take one whole day to answer two questions, but I don't have the energy to answer more than two q's per day. And of course the 'film crew' arent actually filming Wilbur while he's sleeping or anything like that, but it's hard to tell the story I want to tell without having scenes like that. Im hoping that things will get smoother as we go, but for now I've just been making it so that episodes that dont have 'transcript's in them aren't filmed (or have "artist rendition" notes), and lets say that even though its been over a month of answering questions for us, it's only been two or three weeks for wilbur.

As for what you guys are, you're viewers who are calling in from home! Kinda like a radio show. No one is physically showing up to the store or his house (that would be really funny though). I did have some scrapped ideas that I may bring back later about the film crew, but for now "they" dont have any deeper place in the story. I'm the camera man, I guess! I've been imagining it as just some guy with a camera in one hand, a headset to listen to calls, and a little paper pad to write down answers.

Not all of them are asks, some of them are just comments about whats happening (which I love, I <3 hearing what you guys think) but unfortunately I can't answer all of them. I have a general outline so whenever I do pick story/plot asks, its ones that fit that outline, and every other time I just try to be funny.

I was typing out the whole story and reasoning behind the pictures I chose but it was getting way too long (because I ended up going down a rabbit hole). Basically I found an old blog from 2010 where a girl had posted a picture of her room, it was a very positive post so I didn't think it would be offensive to use it (also there's a comment from 2016 on the blog post asking if the image can be used as reference, no reply, the author of the blog has not logged in for years). The bathroom was made in the Sims 4/I used pictures of my own dorm bathroom

OK SO like. ur me . august 26th 2022. fan of dsmp for over a year who has a HUGE aversion to interacting with or creating fan content out of fear of the fandom n social media. u go to fanexpo with a friend’s family and, lo and behold, see an artist you’ve been lurking on’s booth! in person!

it was fucking EPIC i even saw cosplayers and. while i didn’t go for the sake of seeing DSMP, actually having the opportunity to compliment a big q cosplayer or talk to and buy a print from polukhina in the same techno shirt they were wearing and THEN find out i only narrowly nearly missed meeting linktoo really made me realize i wanted to be here, and rly involve myself in the fandom regardless of how terrifying and massive it was. i hadn’t drawn anything aside from doodles on scrap paper at work in god knows how long (a year or more), made my twitter account the day after fanexpo and only began to use it a week later during the utah finale. this is where the other ppl i accredit this account with come in :) mike maerids and clay clothmagictrick are two of the first people i recall interacting with during and after the finale. i drew actual fanart (albeit again, on scrap paper from work) and eventually whipped out my ipad to draw a silly convo i’d had as fanart, with my finger.

while memory issues do not serve me well and i genuinely only remembered i even *went* to fanexpo and saw anyone yesterday (or the day before?) i remember it now and i rly wanted to share that bcos its so fun and im so glad that a new apple pencil and so many cool people later and i’m here. :) this is gonna be the only one with a sappy story attached but im glad 2 share it

i still have the buttons and the quackity print i bought from polukhina then i just remembered :) second dsmp merch after the techno gg ez. this fandom is cool as hell and im so glad i got to remember why i came here LMAO

Con day over dunno if I’ll go to the other days but it’s so funny getting recognized as mumbo so often. I get why. Mumbo is really popular! But in the tumblr hc community you see so much more of like. Grian and scar and shit. There’s so many more grian cosplayers out there in Utah. But I’ll be sitting down in a bigass room and some dude will walk up and just go “Mumbo, right? Love his redstone tutorials” and I realize I forget that the real world doesn’t work like tumblr

Anyway yeah this is when we find out he's just a clone of Horde Prime the Big Baddy of the series, Hordak is a "defective" clone, he was sent to "the front lines" to die and fell through a portal into Etheria. "with nothing but a broken ship, I built an empire..." the whole point of the portal is to bring Horde Prime through, which means that's what he was doing when he tried before and ended up with A Magic Baby (Adora) instead.

The animation in the flashback is clearly inspired by Lotte Reiniger which is super cool??

Back to the Crimson Waste, they've gotten themselves out of the hole, and Adora's upset because the whole point of this mission is her getting more info about Mara with the hopes of understanding her own past better

Every time I’ve cosplayed c!Wibur I have commited to this bit where I’d go up to other cosplayers as politely as possible and then ask them for directions (if they recognize me). The first time (April 2021) I asked if they knew where I could rent a boat for Logstedshire, the second time (October 2022) I said I got shipwreacked while heading towards Utah (I even made a poster). This time? Not sure yet, it’s either I ask if they’ve seen my mom, y’know, the Goddess of Death anywhere, or if they know where to catch the next train to Quesadilla Island.

as a Homestuck, I've done the dream!!!

I shall post my beautiful Homestuck cosplayer dream that came true. My love and I met 4 years ago at the salt lake comic con. he was dressed as jake and I as Dirk, was it planned? no, we never even talked before this moment, but there we are as he runs into my arms screaming dirk as I nonchalantly hold my arms out to hold him bridal style as we get pictures for dirkjake at a con.

Soon began the best years of my life. Before that, though at the time I was in a very abusive friendship so we, unfortunately, didn't talk much that con he gave me his number, I was dragged away from everything for this friend at the time. Any chance I could I'd rush and try to hang with the Homestucks in the pit (the pit being a place that all Homestuck would stay at in salt lake city) and try to hang with him quietly. After that night though in obvious hopeless romantic action I look at his number and tell myself he wouldn't remember a fool like me and then we never talked to each other.

So a week passes like this and little did either of us know but the universe had plans. while I thought I was a forgotten nothing. He was asking everyone about me that went to con and no one did remember me telling him he was crazy cause there was not a third dirk at con. He was determined to find me though so he continued to try and found someone that told him my real name (which is a girl's name and I am trans FTM and he believed I was a cis man so he didn't believe them) which then he felt we'd never see each other again cause he lived in Tooele county which many didn't live in that county of Utah (so he felt wed never meet or possibly I didn't actually exist) low and behold I moved to TOOELE or more of an off town called lake point that was only 10 minutes away from where he lived.

So school begins that Monday and another great thing happens we go to the same school! Like a damn movie I walk up the stairs that day thinking nothing more of the day when this man grabs my arm twirling me around to meet his direction then silently staring at me a foot away as we stare he's finding every attribute of me that matches the Dirk, he met as I stand there looking side to side thinking I should run away. right before I go he says DIRK? and I look closer seeing it all add up and say JAKE! From there we were inseparable skipping school and truly taking on the world side by side for a long time just friends to friends with benefits to a now loving relationship.

I got my dream as a hopeless romantic the cosplay relationship of my dreams and the OTP ship of my dreams XD. i love you @robinred413

tl;dr Watched a video about something related to LARPing, thought of how I'd really enjoy LARPing, except I'm too delicate and not creative enough. More thoughts below.

Yesterday, I watched a video about a failing park in Utah that's almost like a year-round renn faire. And it almost seemed like watching in on a LARP. It made me think about how I miss acting, I miss playing a character. I used to get that with cosplay--I used to walk up to other cosplayers of my same fandom and interact with them in-character, but it seems like that's not really a thing anymore. Anyone I try to interact with recently just seems confused and they don't respond. I would do well in something like a LARP, I think, because I love that kind of in-character improv interaction. Problem is, I just have too many self hang-ups. For one, I have a phobia of alcohol, and in pretty much every LARP I've ever seen, a tavern or bar is a very important location you'll have to visit if you want to get anywhere in the game. And since it's an adult-oriented event, the bar is usually actually functional. Of course, I could give my character the same alcohol phobia as a justification, but I fear I'd either have to put myself in a panic-inducing situation or miss out on huge parts of the game. Secondly, LARPs usually take place at a camp...and no amount of acting and trying to change my mentality will get me to be okay camping. I NEED to be able to sleep somewhere in a BUILDING, not a tent, with indoor plumbing. Also, I need to be able to use the bathroom when I need to, and I'm very susceptible to being jump-scared. (One of the reasons I'd never go to a haunted house attraction is because I'm afraid that I'll have such a jump-scare reaction that I'll actually punch the poor actor who jump-scared me. I could accidentally physically attack someone.) I'm also a very picky eater, though I'm willing to survive for a weekend on just granola bars or something, if I could. As much as I'd love the LARP experience, I'm not willing to put myself in physical distress for it. Oh, and I also wear hearing aids now, which need to be plugged into an electrical socket every night. I'd need access to a socket, or else just have a hard time hearing everyone (though that could be a character trait, lol). Another problem is that...I'm just not talented enough at creating my own original characters. Whenever I make an OC for a game or anime, I usually...don't like them all that much. It would be hard for me to really get into playing a character that *I* created. I guess one thing I could do is take one of my favorite existing characters, change them to fit the game's story and lore, and just give them a new name and clothing to match. But I don't know how acceptable something like that would be. That's something I might have to talk through with people already involved, and it might vary. Perhaps it's something I should still look into. Though I'd also be too socially anxious to go for the first time alone.

We did a pre-FanX photoshoot for people to have photos to submit to the cosplay contest. The agreement was we wouldn’t post photos until after the contest, and as FanX was this last weekend, time to start posting them up!

I had never shot in a studio setting before, so this was such a fun learning experience, and I loved it. This is Jacqueline’s first time sculpting and casting and ventilating wigs and doing a lot of the skills needed to make this cosplay, and it turned out amazing.
