Back like we never left
Back to reality, already first day of being back in wales and reality has kicked in. With assignments due the whole of January and February there is no time to reflect on the holiday. The only way to do so is scrolling through some of the amazing pictures of my family and I.
My advise is homesickness can become a factor around this time do not allow it to make you fall back with your work. Meet your deadlines so you do not add regret to your homesickness. Urge yourself to quickly fall back into your routine, if you travelled overseas tackle jet-lag early before classes begin. Finally reserve time for friends when you have free time.
Classes begin next week, I hope everyone has a good semester. Looking forward to the year ahead.

Weekly Wednesday! Morning guys! So here's a quick update on what I've been up to over the last few weeks... so as you may have already seen last week myself and some of the other insight bloggers attended the X Scream event ran by the Rhondda Heritage Park, I'm not normally bothered by scary things but there were moments where I actually screamed. The vlog is up on my blog so do watch it if you haven't already. Tomorrow I have my first assessment of the year, I have to present my dissertation proposal to two of the lecturers and some students. It's times like this I'm thankful that I do the student life talks at open days as I'm used to talking in front of people. So this weekend I'm acting as a runner for my first big placement. I can't go into too much detail on what It's for but I'm pretty excited to be working for an itv show! So I'm a pretty big fan of Halloween and this Saturday our house is having a fancy dress party for all of our friends, our house has been decorated since the beginning of October and here's a sneak peak of our decorations! I'll be making a vlog in the next few days where you'll get to see our houses decorations and how we get ready for Halloween! Later today myself and the rest of the bloggers are having a little meet up at the Treforest campus so keep an eye out for any photos we take! I hope you all have a great week, wish me luck for tomorrow and have a very spooky Halloween!

Is this Farewell?
So… Uni has come to an end, there have been good bits and there have been bad bits but all that really matters is that I’ve learnt from my journey and that it will help me towards the dream of working in the film industry. Which in a way it already has; through networking and enthusiasm I’m amongst talks to become part of an arts company that do all sorts of film work. How exciting!
Life is all happening so fast now, with finishing uni, getting the opportunity for this industry job, becoming a homeowner with my partner and a mother to the most gorgeous German Shepherd puppy ;) it’s crazy. But don’t get me wrong I’m loving it! :D <3
Tumblr media
I’ve never made a better choice then to come to university (I know they all say that) but its true. It’s been a random, fun, friendship making, educating, maturing, self-finding, crazy experience that I feel everyone should do!
I’m struggling to think of the best way to say goodbye so instead I will look back to when I first said hello because today marks exactly 2 years since I post my first blog as the Insight Ambassador for the Newport City Campus. :’)

Here’s the link if you fancy a read. http://paige-g3.blogs.southwales.ac.uk/2013/07/08/hey-everyone-my-first-post/.
I’m feeling rather emotional I’ve absolutely loved being an Insight ambassador and I’d like to thank Joe and Tom for giving me this amazing opportunity. Every member of the team over the last 2 years has been brilliant to work with and I really am going to miss it. But the time has come to pass the honor onto a new member of our team. I’d like to welcome James Evans!

James is a local boy from Llantrisant, Cardiff about to start his 3rd year of Primary Studies at the Newport City Campus. I’m sure he’ll take good care of you guys and all the newbies to come! See you in the big wide world! Paige x

start thinking about what is next!
As your years in high school draw to an end, it is time you start thinking about what is next...
The first consideration is whether you will endeavour into tertiary education or not. If University is the next stage for you, you need to start considering what it is you want to study at which institutions and finally the deadlines for the applications to be submitted.
For UK universities the application board (UCAS) is open for 2017 entry, and the deadline for submissions is on the 15th of January.
For students who are in university either undergraduate or postgraduate like myself, the end may be also be drawing near, and the next stage is to go into the working world or either go on to masters or PhD. I recently attended a opportunities fair and decided to share some tips on helping you to make a sound decision.
TIPS:
-My first point of advice is you do not lose anything by going to the opportunity fairs and career days.
-Career days are a good platform for you to decide what field may interest you and the dialogue with representatives of the companies are helpful in making sure you know what is required.
-After attending the event I realised that most companies are looking to train graduates. This means that they do not specifically recruit from specific disciplines unless it is professions in law or medicine which are very direct.
-If it is to continue into masters or PhD it is important to do research and perhaps opt to specialise in what interested you most in the qualification just completed.
-Specialising at this stage is important to ensure more in-depth knowledge of whatever it is you want to study.

Winter Wonderland
As it is Christmas time draws closer Cardiff has graced the city with a winter wonderland that is worth visiting. My experience was amazing. With some friends I went and arrived a bit late but still managed to have such a good time. The fair opens at 5pm and closes at 7pm during the week. The weekend has more flexible time. To have time to go on all the rides you have to get there a bit early.
As I arrived the first ride we went on was the Ferris wheel. The Ferris wheel has stunning views of Cardiff. You have a clear view of the millennium stadium and the stunning view of the museum. The next ride was more of an experience. The Bavarian Fun House could easily have been the highlight of the night. With its obstacles, twist, turns, and surprises lead to an exhilarating rush of adrenaline. With a couple of screams and falls the experience flew by too quick, and we did not manage to try the house again because of time we had to move on to other rides.
Bumper cars were our next stop, and it was a great time. When you are having fun, time does fly by and the experiences leave you wanting more. The  Skating rink was the last stop, and it being my first time on the ice it was truely a challenging experience. But I believe with more practice I could improve and do a better job.
Although the Bavarian Fun House was something different and completely enjoyable, the highlight of the night for me was the free food. The hot dogs and donuts were to die for and a nice way to bring the night to a satisfying end.

What I learnt today
So decided to give some facts on child marriage, because in international family law I learnt some things that I believe will raise more awareness…
Facts:
-it affects predominantly girls -Niger has the highest rates of child’s marriage (76%)with Bangladesh at (66%) -27% of the women population is married by 18 -8% of the women population is married by 15 -child marriage is predominant in societies with poverty, low levels of education, war zones, polygamous societies -child marriage is a contributor to the levels of HIV/AIDS and domestic violence -Pakistan has proposed to end Childs marriage by 2030

#MedicalMonday
If I asked you what the most important organ was what would you say? The heart? A lot of people think this when in fact it’s the liver.
So the liver provides over 500 functions in the body, this includes fighting off infections, toxin control, managing proteins and hormones and blood sugars. It also aids in clotting the blood.
Next time you put yourself through a gruelling session in the club be very grateful for your liver!

So back on Monday some of us Vloggers got invited to the X Scream event held by the Rhondda Heritage Park.
The night was full of scares around each corner and we were allowed to film it for the Vlogs… please ignore the faces I pull at the time I thought it would be funny but instead they’re pretty scary and fits in with the Halloween theme 🎃🎃
If you get a chance to go I’d definitely recommend it!

Coping with a high workload.
So, I’ve been back in lectures 4 weeks now and I have a lot of assignments that I’m currently working on, as well as having some formal assessments. It got me thinking about how to prepare for the high workload that you get during university… especially in medical / science degrees. Here are my top tips for dealing with a high work load.
1. Buy an academic diary and make notes of all assessments or extra reading given to you.
2. Prioritise your workload, the assignment you get first is the first one you start and so on.
3. Try and do a couple drafts of each essay (I make 3 copies and focus on different elements for each one e.g. grammar)
4. If your deadline is 6 weeks away don’t start it in 5 weeks and 6 days… start it as soon as you get it (trust me… the work will keep building and you’ll get lost)
5. If you have any issues speak to your academic tutor ASAP, if you are waiting till the last minute to start and you struggle, they aren’t going to be able to answer your email a couple hours before the turnitin deadline.
6. Don’t cheat… don’t share your work. I know you want to be a good friend and help others out but when you submit work to the university online (turnitin) it scans the internet and all other submissions. It’s not worth the risk.
Just remember, the lecturers aren’t giving you tough assignments to be evil, they must challenge you but when you walk across the stage and get handed your degree it will all be worth it.
