Not sure if this theory makes any sense at all but I'm starting to believe that there's no time skip between Wally's phone calls and what we see/hear in the show's Media/Merchandise. If we see the Toyland call being made before the Homewarming episode then it would make sense that Wally's expecting Barnaby to come over soon. As well as the Homewarming sketch from the prior update. (I don't know, still kind of brainstorming this perspective)

that theory Does make sense and i've been considering it! the "timeline" is such a nebulous thing right now because we still... don't really know! there are too many variables and too many Maybes for any solid answer.

maybe the reality that the neighbors live in exists outside of time like you say, and like half of me suspects. there's so much reality fuckery already present, but I'm also... unsure of how much merit this holds given what we know / can infer about how time passes in Home. i'm putting this theory on a low shelf to look at but not prioritize

maybe it really has been 50 years, and Barnaby is either still around / Wally is still in contact with him, or Barnaby... isn't there. who knows, maybe Wally was just verbalizing some Wishful Thinking. i mean, Wally is a bit of an unreliable narrator, isn't he? we can't assume that everything he says is entirely accurate or truthful. and i mean, if it's been 50 years it makes sense that Wally would be pushing for connection / to revive WH. who knows how long he's been trying.

hm... i mean. it could be a mix of that and the Outside Of Time theory. who knows, maybe W is receiving calls from different points in the timeline - Wally may have started out just calling, and has just graduated to invading the WH website / getting pushy with the envelopes and media that's been sent to the WHRP. maybe Wally got tired of waiting for W to respond before W was even born. who's to say!

Night was today years old when he realized if he sits on top of his crinkle paper and grabs an end in his teeth, he can pull and rip a bit off and suddenly he has a BRAND NEW TOY!

I am not sure how we've gone 7 years without him discovering this but he's thrilled. He is having the BEST weekend. He got shiny wrapping paper to play in, the weather cooled back down to optimum zoomies temperature, and he remembered where he put his blue bunny (it's been sitting right near him this whole time but he batted it under his scratcher and just realized it was there today).

Honestly I always mostly just think of the [looks at notes] 3 managers Harry was friends with when thinking of what he lost but considering he's that old and has been jumping between franchises so much and also the fact Every Fucking Phoney (save for 3) got scrapped by the time we meet him; how much as this man lost? How many people he cared about has he seen die gruesome deaths again and again? Has he managed to find time to process this to grieve or has he just desensitized himself to the situation entirely? I wonder if some vague memory or reaction from how he dealt w this while in the war is how he keeps it at bay. Though it's rich of me to take his formality at face value when he has shown to not be a stranger to strong emotional reactions. Much to think about!

10. Is it important to include tension or outright areas of conflict in a relationship? If so then how do you explore these? Or does this not appeal to you?

I will be honest, it didn't use to be as important? Because I was younger, and I am naturally a conflict avoidant person too, and thus I just largely said: "they fight but I don't wanna write it."

These days I write ships less for the romantic fantasy of having a relationship that I don't irl and more for an exploration of a particular pair of characters in a romantic setting. Are fights hard to write? Yes! But that is because my brain likes to make it hard for me by being all detailed about it and it hurts my soul but it has to be done.

This was how Trials and Tribulations, an unfinished wolartoirel/nikartoirel series, was born! Out of a realization that Nika would be a horrible patient and he'd just almost died and is in for a long recovery, and that he would lash out at people in his pain + Artoirel's reaction to that kind of person in a romantic setting. Bonus points for Nika's moms whomst I love dearly.

But overall I'd say such points of contention and conflict are so very needed if you want the relationship you're writing to feel like a proper relationship between two people and less like a simple vehicle for an idea, if that makes sense.
