Trump BANS ALL FLIGHTS from mainland Europe
DONALD Trump took the unprecedented step to suspended ALL flights from nearly all of Europe to the US for next 30 days due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In a drastic move, the United States will bar entry from 26 European countries, except the UK and Ireland, for a month - as cases in the US exceed 1,200 with at least 37 deaths.
Trump made the announcement as he delivered a rare prime-time Oval Office address on the federal response to the coronavirus pandemic on Wednesday - amid fears it could kill as many five million Americans, according to WHO forecasts. The President said the European Union "failed to take the same precautions" as the US before announcing the travel restrictions - which will go into effect on Friday at 12am. He singled out the UK as an exemption to the ban - but there was confusion as a later statement from the Department of Homeland Security said only countries in the Shengen area of free movement would be barred, therefore meaning Ireland was also exempt. The DHS clarified that the travel restrictions would not impose a total travel ban on all of Europe or all US citizens. Just those countries in the the Schengen zone - which includes 26 mainland European counties that abolished border control at their entry points - would be banned. “These restrictions will be adjusted subject to conditions on the ground,” the President told the American public, while emphasizing the need to remain calm. British and Irish travelers plus and American citizens who have undergone the "appropriate screenings" will be exempt from the month-long ban, along with cargo. Trump added that his administration would monitor the situation to determine if travel could be reopened earlier. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY STATEMENT Several countries in the Schengen Area will be impacted by the travel ban. President Donald J. Trump signed a Presidential Proclamation, which suspends the entry of most foreign nationals who have been in certain European countries at any point during the 14 days prior to their scheduled arrival to the United States. These countries, known as the Schengen Area, include: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. This does not apply to legal permanent residents, (generally) immediate family members of U.S. citizens, and other individuals who are identified in the proclamation. The DHS issued a second briefing on Wednesday that warned US citizens against all travel out of the country. In its Global Level 3 Health Advisory, the DHS said: "Many areas throughout the world are now experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks and taking action that may limit taveler mobility, including quarantines and border restrictions. "Even countries, jurisdictions or areas where cases have not been reported may restrict travel without notice." PLEDGE TO WORKING AMERICANS Later in his dramatic address, the President vowed to "ensure that working Americans impacted by the virus can stay home without fear of financial hardship" - repeating pledges to ensure hourly workers were not impacted by enforced isolation. He also urged nursing homes to suspend visitations and said the administration were discussing school closures and social distancing. Americans, he added, should follow the guidelines put forward by their local officials and maintain high hygiene standards. Trump claimed the virus "would not stand a chance against us," saying he would extend the April 15 tax deadline and again suggesting a payroll tax holiday - but he did not confirm whether the latter would happen. The President added he was instructing the Small Business Administration to provide economic low-interest loans in affected states and territories to overcome coronavirus disruptions. And he called on Congress to increase funding for this program by an additional $50 billion.

Dr Fauci informed reporters about the latest coronavirus updates ahead of Trump's addressCredit: Avalon.red. All rights reserved. His comments came after Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, told Congressmen the virus is "10 times more lethal than the seasonal flu." But in his sombre address, Trump urged Americans to remain calm, saying: "From the beginning of time, nations and people have face unforeseen challenges". He touted the success of his swift travel restrictions on coronavirus hotspots for protecting the US from bigger outbreaks. "This is the way it was and always will be,” Trump said. “It only matters how you respond and we are responding with great speed and professionalism.” HUGE DISRUPTION His speech capped off the mounting effort to contain the virus and financial fallout intensified with canceled public events nationwide, universities moved to cancel in-person classes, and families grappled with the impact of disruptions to public schools. The Trump administration had floated several strategies this week - including the rare idea of declaring national disaster to unlock funding streams, hourly workers getting paid sick leave, and extending tax filing deadlines by three months, reports say. Speaking about the travel proclaimation, DHS Acting Secretary Chad F. Wolf said: "The actions President Trump is taking to deny entry to foreign nationals who have been in affected areas will keep Americans safe and save American lives. "I applaud the president for making this tough but necessary decision. "While these new travel restrictions will be disruptive to some travelers, this decisive action is needed to protect the American public from further exposure to the potentially deadly coronavirus. “In January and February, the Administration issued similar travel restrictions on individuals who had been in China and Iran. "That action proved to be effective in slowing the spread of the virus to the U.S., while public health officials prepared." Wolf said he intends to implement a Notice of Arrivals Restriction which requires that US passengers who've been in the Schengen Area "to travel through select airports" for enhanced screening procedures.

The Trump administration has issued a sweeping ban on travel to and from most of EuropeCredit: Reuters Earlier Wednesday, Rick Pollack, President of the American Hospital Association, said he urged the government to declare a national disaster during a meeting with top administration officials at the White House. Pollack argued it was necessary to provide Americans with adequate care as the Trump administration also considers limiting European travelers. Italy has been especially hard hit by the deadly disease - with 827 deaths as of March 11 and over 12,000 cases as the coronavirus surged 31 per cent in just 24 hours. Dr. Brian Monahan, the attending physician of the U.S. Congress, told staffers at a closed-door meeting as many as 70-150 million people in the country could contract the virus, Axios reported. Confirmed cases on American soil surged to well over 1,000 this week - with at least 37 coronavirius-related deaths in four states after California announced its fourth fatality on Wednesday. On Tuesday, Bloomberg reported that The Council of Foreign Relations even axed a coronavirus roundtable scheduled for Friday in New York due to the quick-spreading infection. The organization joins a long list of recently canceled or postponed events, including the E3 gaming expo, the Coachella music festival in California, and South by Southwest (SXSW) in Texas. Several schools in New York have also shut down due to the coronavirus, most recently John Jay College and the College of Mount St. Vincent, both of which have at least one student who has tested positive for COVID-19. – You can follow BangkokJack on Twitter, Instagram, & Reddit. New plane cabin design to revolutionise air travel by giving unpopular middle seat more room and arm rests – The Sun
A NEW aeroplane cabin design could have solved the problem of the middle seat, making it three inches wider.
America’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved a staggered seating system dubbed the “S1” after it was in development for five years.
6
The new design has been approved by the FAACredit: Molon Labe Seating
6
The new design allows the person in the middle seat to get access to the armrestsCredit: Molon Labe Seating
One US airline, which has not been revealed, has already ordered it and intends to install it on 50 of their aeroplanes by the end of 2020.
In the new design the middle seat is slotted a few inches behind and below its neighbours.
The layout means it gets an extra three inches of width and proper access to the armrests on either side.
The middle seat is now 21inches wide compared to 18inches for the other two.
The Denver-based airline interiors firm Molon Labe Designs came up with the new layout.
Founder Hank Scott told The Fast Company: “Our main sales tool is to ship seats to airlines so they can sit in them.
“I have watched this several times – airline executives see the seat, nod their head and then say they get it.
“Then we ask them to actually sit down, next to a big fella. Within a few seconds they [really] get it – they stop being an airline executive and switch into passenger modes.”
The new design though doesn’t “steal width” from the seats either side of it.
STAGGERED SEATING
Scott added: “If you’re in the aisle or window seat, you couldn’t possibly steal the entire armrest – your elbows would be behind your back at a weird angle.”
In addition to the changes to the middle seat, the aisle seat comes with an optional “side-slip” function, allowing the seat to move sideways, temporarily allowing more aisle space.
Executive vice president Thomas Conrady told The Telegraph: “This sliding motion doubles the aisle width during boarding, which reduces the time it takes by between 20 and 30 per cent, thus reducing stress for passengers, cost for airlines and emissions on the ground for everyone.”
He added: “Once a passenger comes to the seat, it can be easily pulled out, locks itself into place and is ready to be sit upon.
“It can even slide with the passenger sitting on it.
“Obviously, the aisle at that point returns to its normal width (if both seats are moved), but until the very last passenger has boarded, there is still the benefit of the wider aisle.”
6
Initially the new seating will only serve short- to medium haul flights and anyone flying on a British airline will have to wait until it is approved in the UK.
But an S2 version, designed for long-haul cabins is under development.
Although not finalised this design comes with more padding, a recline function and an entertainment screen measuring 15.6inches, the biggest in the business.
The design is in stark contrast to the “stand up” plane seat known as the Skyrider 3.0 which was debuted at the Paris Air Show in June this year.
The latest version of the seat has a bike-style saddle that sits higher than a traditional airline seat.
The Skyrider 3.0, designed by Aviointeriors, takes up much less space than the average economy seat — just 23 inches compared to 31 inches on most other airlines.

The idea is that airlines could cram in more of these seats and still allow other passengers to book other kinds of tickets on the same flight.
The company hopes to increase passenger numbers by 20%, however standing seats have not been approved by aviation authorities just yet.
It is unclear whether the seat would meet government safety standards for emergencies.

Trump says US about to suffer ‘a lot of death’ – and urges virus patients to try experimental drugs – The Sun
DONALD Trump warned the US will suffer “a lot of death” – and urged coronavirus patients to try experimental drugs. The president discussed the potential merits of hydroxychloroquine in treating COVID-19 patients as he told the country to prepare for the worst. Trump said there would be many deaths in the USCredit: JIM WATSON/AFP via Getty ImagesTrump said that the “toughest week” would be between this week and next week, adding there will be “a lot of death.” “Now, over the next week, two weeks, it’s going to be a very, very deadly period, unfortunately,” he said. “We’re going to make it so that we lose as few lives as possible.” The president lamented how coronavirus cases “spring up they hit you like you got hit by a club.” The US has already become the new epicenter for the killer bug, which has infected 305,820 Americans and killed at least 8,291 people as of April 4. But he cited a report he read about the supposed success of the drug used to treat malaria, lupus, and arthritis. “It might be correct, it might be false,” he told reporters. “What do you have to lose? … I might do it anyway. I may take it.” The FDA previously issued an emergency use authorization for hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine to be used on coronavirus patients. But it hasn’t been approved for coronavirus treatment because researchers don’t know if it works. But prolonged use of hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine can cause an interrupted heartbeat in certain patients or a cardiac arrhythmia, according to medical literature cited by Reuters. A new research paper says they may be risky for a critically ill person and neither have been tested to treat COVID-19, the publication notes. The power of the free flow of information to libertate the indoctrinated!
North Korea flooded with illicit information carried by hydrogen balloons as tensions escalate
Nicola Smith,The Telegraph 4 hours ago
North Korean defectors are ramping up a campaign to covertly flood their former homeland with flashdrives and balloons full of news bulletins and documentaries to counter state propaganda as tensions escalate with the US over Pyongyang’s nuclear and missiles programmes.
Assisted by the US-based, and privately funded, Human Right Foundation (HSF) their ultimate aim is to bring down the pariah regime from within, by engaging directly with North Koreans, providing illicit information that will influence mindsets and fuel dissatisfaction.
Up to 10,000 flashdrives were successfully smuggled into North Korea as Pyongyang’s relations sharply deteriorated over the past year, said Alex Gladstein, HSF’s chief strategy officer.
But with traditional military and diplomatic strategies apparently failing to temper the threat of nuclear conflict, activists are now working furiously to reach a target of 100,000 by mid-2018.
Anti-North Korea leaflets carried by a balloonCredit: REUTERS/Lee Jae-Won/Files
Waging this information war was “the only way to inspire change,” argued Mr Gladstein. “So it’s really like a third way, and this is to liberate minds.
We’re creating little windows to the outside world so that the North Korean people can make decisions for themselves about what they want to do with their lives,” he said.
He revealed that the appetite for information within the hermit kingdom had considerably shifted in recent months from popular films such as Titanic, South Korean soap operas and megastar Psy’s music videos more towards news, documentaries and educational material including Wikipedia entries.
The content is chosen by defector focus groups, said Mr Gladstein.
The regime’s visceral reaction towards them, calling them “scum” and “enemy zero” showed how much it feared outside news, he argued.
The USB-sticks are smuggled at great risk via towns on China’s border with North Korea, where the black market for goods and information is flourishing.
The group’s “Flashdrives for Freedom” project has already smuggled in 2 million hours worth of footage, and 48m hours of reading material, reaching an estimated 1.1 million North Koreans over the past few years.
Balloons are still used, but smuggled flash drives enable more information to be spread across the borderCredit: KIM JAE-HWAN/AFP/Getty Images
It first began its operations in the simplest of ways in 2013, by floating hydrogen balloons packed with DVDs, dollar bills and leaflets from the northern town of Paju across the militarised border.
Balloon projects are ongoing during seasons with favourable winds but the group’s focus has shifted mainly to flashdrives which have dramatically increased the amount of content that can be sent in.
Their approach was implicitly endorsed in November by Thae Yong-ho, once number two at North Korea’s embassy in London until he became the regime’s highest profile defector in 2016.
On a visit to Washington, Mr Thae urged legislators on the House Foreign Affairs Committee to strike the “Achilles heel” of dictator Kim Jong-un by strategically targeting his population with tailor-made information that made them question their dire living conditions.
By exploiting the increasing penetration of free-market capitalism, North Korean citizens could be encouraged to challenge their brainwashing from infancy that the Kim family were divine rulers protecting them from the outside world, Mr Thae argued.
A propaganda poster on display during a rally in support of North Korea's stance against the USCredit: KIM WON-JIN/AFP/Getty Images
“We cannot change the policy of terror of the Kim Jong-un regime. But we can educate the North Korean population to stand up by disseminating outside information,” he said.
Evidence of the increasing foreign influence on the secretive regime was borne out in the recent daring defection of a young soldier who was shot multiple times as he ran across the border.
When he woke from life-saving surgery he professed a liking for South Korean girl bands.
While the impact of the information campaign is hard to measure, Mr Gladstein said the group hoped to influence North Korea’s business and military elite to foster change that would ultimately help release the quarter million prisoners languishing in labour camps.
