Tumblr media
Tense investigations!
Delve into an investigation-focused mystery and horror system that lets players take initiative and use their characters’ unique strengths to find clues and deduce conclusions themselves. If you’re interested in a more updated and improved version of Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy than the free demo you got from our website, subscribe to our Patreon where we frequently roll our new updates for the prerelease version!
You can also support us on Ko-fi, or by checking out our merchandise!

Plus it’s just a great place to discuss and play new TTRPGs you might not be able to otherwise!
We hope to see you there, and that you will help our dreams come true and launch our careers as indie TTRPG developers with a bang by getting us to our base goal and blowing those stretch goals out of the water, and fight back against WotC's monopoly on the entire hobby. Wish us luck.

Regarding the mess that is Tommy's career timeline:
Mandatory not a pilot or firefighter or American, but it makes sense that Tommy started working at Harbor 5 years ago, despite leaving the 118 7 years ago.
The description Tommy gives Buck in 7x04 is lifted verbatim from the real LAFD Air Ops website, so it's safe to say its 9-1-1 universe counterpart pretty much operates the same way, other than the location, station number and the types of helicopters they own.
To become a firefighting pilot with the LAFD, you need: 1: 4 years experience as a firefighter with the LAFD 2: a private helicopter pilot license 3: a minimum of 100 flight hours in a rotary aircraft
You have to get all these with your own time and money before even applying for the training program, but it's not a problem for Tommy, who had plenty of experience in the army.
Once accepted into the pilot training program, pilots are put into intensive specified training for aerial firefighting, operating an aircraft in cramped urban space, flying in mountain terrain, and all sorts of aircraft emergencies. At the same time, they work on getting their commercial rotary pilot license, a flight instructor rating, and obviously a type rating for the helicopters they operate at Air Ops. This takes around 2 years, and it's tough, a good percentage of pilots drop out at this stage.
After finishing the program, pilots are assigned to Air Ops as trainees, and they will continue their training on the job, for another 2 years. Most of them end up getting an instrument license, which allows you to operate an aircraft in low visibility conditions, and even an airline transportation pilot license, which is the highest level of pilot certificate.
So Tommy was in flight school the 2 years between Buck's arrival at the 118 and Tommy's official transfer to the 217.

Halloween 🎃 ask,
Yan ghost Nanami 👻 rip, in a mansion with a urban explorer darling?
Three Step Ritual
Tumblr media
Word count; 1581
TW; Yandere theme, possessiveness (kinda?), not very Yandere, Nanami’s death mentioned.
Notes;{I wasn’t the best with the fic but I hope it’s to your liking!}
“Mic? Check. Cameras? Check. Walkie talkies? Check.”
You sit beside Joseph, the crew's cameraman, as he checks the equipment they’ve brought for the journey. Three of you sat in the back of the old van, awaiting the stop at the location you were supposed to visit. Toshi, who sits directly across from you, finally speaks up, taking the lit cigarette from his chapped lips.
“So, what’s the story?” His voice comes out gruff.
Joseph looks up from his camera, “First of all, throw that cigarette out. Second of all, we’re going to a mansion in Shibuya. Apparently, this area has a ghost that answers clearly, or that’s what the YouTube videos fake. You have to do some damn Bloody Mary ritual.”
Toshi rolls his head back lazily to scratch the underside of his chin. “You look into a mirror and say his name?” Toshi inquires.
“No. From the website I read, the instructions say we need candles, an offering, and a spirit box. Depending on what the ghost thinks about the person, he’ll communicate through the spirit box or appear in front of them.”
You already knew of the ritual. Last night, you stayed up late and resurched an article, bought all of the items suggested, and even researched the person a little. The man’s name was Nanami. Nanami died at the young age of twenty-seven as an ordinary businessman. The bag swayed in your hand as the van drove, containing all the items you knew he’d like.
Joseph turned to you. “Alright. So, you see this camera?” he pointed at a GoPro, “you’ll put this on and then record once you go into the building.” Joseph helped get you situated, placing and adjusting the Gopro on your head.
“Got it?”Joseph asks.
A heavy sigh leaves your lips, “yup.”
If it weren’t for the money you’d receive after the assignment, you’d be in bed, probably catching up on new seasons of shows. However, rent was coming up, and it seemed everything needed money these days.
It wasn’t uncommon for people to venture for ghosts in hopes of scoring YouTube views, so when you saw an ad for an open role as an additional member of a ghost-hunting team that would put a little money in your pockets, you accepted the offer. Crazy as it was. You only accepted the job since the ghost had a tame reputation.
The van came to a stop after a good twenty-minute drive. Looking out the van window, the mansion wasn’t stereotypical; the layout was clean, evidently having recent touch-ups: No rotten trees, smashed windows, or decaying walls. Everyone emptied the van, stepped into the mansion yard, and then migrated inside.
You went into the dining room. The room which the spirit was said to frequent. Strangely enough, the room didn’t look half bad, even though it had supposedly been abandoned for a couple of years. The table was already set but it didn’t appear untouched. No dust or aging showed on any of the items, not even the tablecloth.
Everyone gathered inside the room and began to set up. Four cameras encircled you, their red dots illuminating the dark room.
“If you need anything call out to us,” Joseph informed you, wiggling a walkie-talkie to illustrate what you’d need to use to communicate. “Okay...” you nod.
One by one, the team members departed until you were left by your lonesome. The room was dark- even with the red glow from the cameras, too dark for your comfort. You gripped the skinny candle, your palms growing clammy by the second. You swallowed, shakily placing the candle on the table. Setting the spirit box by your side, you turn on your GoPro and then begin the ritual.
Step one: light the candle.
Using a spare match from your pants pocket, you lit the candle, positioning it close to you but not enough to be beside you.
Step two: give offers.
You take the loaf of bread out and the freshly brewed coffee you made before coming here. Placing the items beside the candle, you close your eyes.
Step three: call out to spirit.
Your lips quiver, but eventually, you call out to the spirit. “...Nanami,” you start, trying to breathe through the anxiety, “Are you here?”
Step four: keep your eyes closed until you hear something.
You shut your eyes tightly, so tight it slightly stung. And yet no one answered your call. The spirit box was on, wasn’t it? You checked it before you attempted the ritual. You don't know what’s more frightening; the silence or someone speaking. The thought of opening your eyes tempted you, but the guide advised you to keep your eyes closed for at least five minutes.
“Thank you for bringing black coffee.”
Instantly, you opened your eyes. The scenery wasn’t the same as a minute ago. Before your eyes fluttered shut, the dining room was cloaked in the dark blue moonlight, nothing but the candle and cameras brightening the room. Now the room was shrouded in the warmth of the chandler above the dining table.
Cider wood. It suddenly smelled like cider wood.
“..N..Nanami?” you call out again.
“I am him.”
Your head nearly spun towards the entrance. A man- no, Nanami leaned against the entryway of the dining room. Dressed in a formal tan business suit, a pair of sunglasses with no arms, and a neat hairstyle, he sipped the coffee you had brought. Nanami acted as if this was a normal occurrence for him. “Holy shit..” you mumble out.
Nanami approaches the table, picking up the loaf of bread. “This is fresh as well?” one glance in your direction made you speak up, “..yes. I got it before I came here..”
Nanami hums, “Thank you. Most people offer stale bread. Not very polite since they’re taking up my time, but I’ll entertain them with a conversation on those voice boxes. You, on the other hand, showed care in your work.”
Using his bare hands, Nanami divides the bread in two and places the other chunk of bread on a plate. “So what is it you’ve come to ask me? Or have you no questions at all?”
As a matter of fact, you didn’t have any questions. Anyone in your shoes would have the same issue. No one would have expected Nanami to appear in front of them or for him to speak back to them. The whole story sounded like a creepypasta that a tween created.
“I’m not sure...” You didn’t want to admit that you didn’t believe he was real. Then something came to mind. “Would you mind me asking the reason you are here if you died at the Shibuya subway station?”
Suprise overcomes his features, though it only displays for a moment. “When a person dies and hasn’t moved on, they have a choice to haunt the place they died at or a place that holds some significance to them.”
“How does this place hold significance to you? Did you live here?”
Nanami shakes his head, “No, but I did wish to. I could have had the money In no time, but I did have other things in mind before purchasing it.”
“What was it?” you question.
“A family.” Nanami expressed his lament through the way his voice lowered a pitch, eyes staring down at the wooden table. “I never had the time to get married. Work overtook my time; it wouldn’t have been fair to them.”
Nanami knew how to pull at your heartstrings, that’s for sure. “I died during work as well,” Nanami reminisced. “Although I didn’t succeed in having a family, I’m happy my life had a positive Impact.”
Nanami and you entertained a conversation, both discovering more about each other.
From what you gathered, you could infer Nanami was a good person. He was well-spoken: A man who was respectful, kind, and easy to talk to. It almost felt like a dream.
“(Name),” A voice called out through static. You turn away from Nanami. You answer, “Yes?” The static erupts from the small walkie-talkie, “Come back.” Offering an apologetic smile to Nanami, you replied, “Okay, coming out.”
You stand, “I have to go now,” you somberly tell him. “You can keep the bread and coffee, of course.” Blowing out the candle, you went to leave. The door swings shut, causing you to step back in fright. Shit.
Even if you considered Nanami a good person, you shouldn’t have turned your back on a ghost.
“I see.”
You couldn’t move. You felt grounded in place, quasi to the roots stabling a tree. Nanami had been innocuous so far; still, you would be careful by doing as he asked
“Forgive me; that must have been too forceful.” Nanami took note of the change in your demeanor. “I only meant to ask if you’d visit again.”
Little by little, you felt your muscles release the built-up tension. “Visit?” you repeat, skeptical if you should reward Nanami with your trust.
“I enjoyed our conversation and would like to have another sometime. Only if you’d like, of course.”
Although Nanami was a spirit, able to end your life had he pleased, you enjoyed the conversation as well. You turned around to face him. “I could come by on Thursday.”
Nanami hummed, “I look forward to it.”
Not long after, you headed back to the van. Toshi opened the van door to allow you in. Toshi gazes at you with amusement oozing from his smug smile. “Real good act, kid,” you take your seat, “What are you talking about?” you ask.
Joseph huffs in response, looking down at his camera, which you presumed meant he was viewing the footage back. “I really thought we’d get good footage...” he murmured angrily to himself.
Toshi took a seat beside you. “We may not have gotten genuine footage, but you were slightly convincing. As long as some kids click on the video, we’ll make a buck or two off it.”
“I was talking to him that whole time- didn’t it come through the spirit box,” you contend.
“No one was talking to you on the spirit box. You just started murmuring things with your eyes closed.”

How to Get a Binder Without Your Parents Knowing
*disclaimer!! we here at transmasc advice blog do not promote lying and sneaking around behind your parents/guardians back! this is just a resource that might help if you are in a situation where you need a binder!*
**disclaimer #2! i am from the us in an urban area. i dont know if this will work in other countries or in an rural area where you dont have gas stations/stores as closely available. feel free to add in the notes/reblogs**
First: ask yourself: how much trouble would you get in if your parents if your parents found out? i trust that you are able to make a responsible decision in your situation. make sure you will be in a safe spot.
If you have access to money:
Do research! the best binder brands that ive tried or others have recommended to me are: Spectrum, Underworks, Wonababi, and ForThem. Make sure to look at the size guide and do measurements!
Depending on your binder, you will need about $30-$60. If you have a credit/debit card that your parents don't monitor, you can ship the package to a friends house whose parents are chill(ask them first!!), or get a p.o. box (this can cost about $5 a month, go to your local ups store to see!). You might be able to have the post office hold the package for you, but contact them about that (you might need a photo id).
If you only have access to cash, or your parents monitor your card, you can go to your local gas station/target or walmart and they should have visa giftcards. buy a visa giftcard with about $10-$20 more then the binder costs (shipping+tax).
If you don't have access to money:
There are programs availble! read the websites!
point of pride
ftm essentials
rainbow youth pride alliance
queer trans project
and many more! do your own research!
If you know transmasc people who bind, ask them! maybe they have a spare/old one, you never know!
I hope this helps! Please feel free to add anything else in the notes!

I don't know if you've heard of it, but I'm watching a video of someone playing Loddlenaut! It's about cleaning up the ocean(s) on alien planet(s)! It looks really cute, so far, and after verifying (hopefully), I can confidently say that with every purchase of the game, the publisher will donate a portion to Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC), and will donate the set portion from game purchases for the next three years! Even though the portion being donated is kinda... small (I think), but any amount is still better than nothing at all.
Ooh! I've never heard of Loddlenaut before, sounds like a super cool premise and a wonderful way to collect money for animal conservation! Even if the amount is small; the game was developed by a two-person indie studio according to the website, with some additional people working on the sound design, music, 2D art and social media. The fact that they're donating 0.05 GBP per sale is still kind of them, given how small the team is! It seems they've also taken up other charity work too, like with Urban Beach Cleans. How sweet!
Anyway, about the game itself! It look very cute, I enjoy the loddles with their axolotl- and eel-like appearance! And their cheeks glow too, my heart... The way you clean the planet in the game looks very satisfying indeed, I ought to put this game on my list of underwater games I want to play one day!
Check it out in case you end up being interested, peeps!

NEARTOWTRUCK - GOLD
Tumblr media
When the unexpected happens on the road—whether it's a flat tire, an engine failure, or an accident—the need for reliable assistance becomes paramount. Enter the "near tow truck" service, a lifeline for drivers in distress. With countless tow trucks at our disposal, these safe and efficient vehicles are equipped to get you back on the road as quickly as possible. Knowing how to find a "tow truck near me" in times of crisis can make all the difference between a minor inconvenience and a lengthy delay.
Near tow truck
When you find yourself in a situation where your vehicle is stranded or broken down, knowing where to find a near tow truck can be incredibly beneficial. The last thing you want during a roadside emergency is to waste time searching for help. Here are some tips on how to quickly locate a near tow truck when you need it the most.
1. Use Your Smartphone: In today’s technology-driven world, your smartphone is one of the best tools for finding a near tow truck. Simply use map apps or towing service directories to input your location. This will give you instant results of all the towing services available near you.
2. Contact Your Insurance Provider: Many insurance policies include roadside assistance. If you're unsure about the nearest towing services, don't hesitate to contact your insurance provider. They can quickly connect you to a near tow truck service, saving you time and stress.
3. Roadside Assistance Programs: If you're part of a roadside assistance program, such as AAA, make sure to keep their number handy. They specialize in providing immediate help, including dispatching a near tow truck directly to your location.
4. Online Searches: If you’re near an urban area, an online search for a near tow truck can yield numerous results. Websites like Yelp or Google Maps will provide you with reviews and ratings for towing services, allowing you to choose a reputable company.
5. Ask for Referrals: If you’re stranded in an unfamiliar area, consider asking locals for recommendations. They might know of a reliable near tow truck service that is not widely advertised.
Remember, when looking for a near tow truck, always verify the company’s legitimacy. Look for proper licensing and insurance to ensure that you’re working with a trustworthy service provider. Being prepared and knowledgeable about your options can make a stressful situation much easier.
Tow truck
When you're in need of a tow truck, it’s essential to understand the functions and benefits these services provide. Tow trucks are vehicles designed to transport damaged or non-operational vehicles from one location to another. They play a crucial role during roadside emergencies, ensuring safety and efficiency.
There are several types of tow trucks, including flatbed, hook and chain, and wheel-lift trucks, each designed to cater to different towing needs. A flatbed, for instance, is ideal for transporting luxury cars, while wheel-lift trucks are best suited for standard vehicles. Understanding which type you need can save you time and money.
Using a tow truck service is not just about moving a vehicle; it also involves professional assistance when your vehicle is incapacitated due to a breakdown, accident, or any other reason. If you find yourself in a situation where your vehicle is stranded, whether due to a breakdown or an accident, knowing how to find a tow truck near me can be a lifesaver. The convenience of having a local tow truck service at your fingertips can alleviate stress and ensure that you receive timely assistance. In this guide, we’ll explore the best ways to find a reliable tow truck company close to your location.
When searching for a tow truck near me, it’s helpful to use online tools. Most smartphones and computers allow you to search for local services using mapping applications. Simply type in tow truck near me or local tow truck services in your preferred search engine or maps app to get a list of nearby providers.
Another important factor to consider is the type of tow truck services offered. Many companies specialize in different types of towing services, including flatbed towing, motorcycle towing, and heavy-duty towing. Make sure that the tow truck near me you choose can accommodate your specific needs. Look for providers that have positive customer reviews and offer 24/7 service so you’re covered no matter when trouble strikes.
Additionally, it’s wise to inquire about the pricing structures of local tow truck services. Different companies may charge varying rates for their services. Some might have hidden costs, while others are more transparent with their pricing. Always ask for an estimate before committing to a service—it's a practical way to avoid any unexpected charges.
Lastly, ensure that any tow truck service you consider is fully insured and licensed. This guarantees that your vehicle is in safe hands and that the company adheres to industry standards. Knowing you have a professional tow truck service provider close by can ease the tension of an unfortunate vehicular situation.

I feel like this is probably Important information for people on this site, but like if you are looking into getting an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) please be careful about getting scammed. If a website says they'll 'certify' or 'register' your ESA for a fee, that is a scam! There is no such thing as a certified ESA. That does not exist. Anyone who says that is either misinformed or actively trying to get money from you. ESAs fall under the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Fair Housing Acr, not the ADA. The documentation requirements are different.
Under HUD guidelines, a housing provider (and this includes university housing) may ask for certain information including if the disability substantially impacts your life and whether the animal addresses that impact. You also may be asked to prove you have a relationship with a provider. This means it can't be a one time visit or a form you fill out online. It needs to be a provider who can accurately determine the need for an ESA.
Service Animals are a different category. You do not have to provide any documentation, but housing providers (and other establishments) are allowed to ask what task the animal is trained to perform. Service Animals are almost always dogs, but miniature horses are allowed in some.l circumstances. If it is not a dog or a miniature horse, then it is not a service animal. Service Animals are allowed in public places, but ESAs may be barred. If someone says their ESA is covered under the ADA, they are wrong. If you ask what task the animals is trained to perform and the answer is comfort or emotional support, then that animal is not a service animal. People will put service animal vests on their ESAs and take them in public places where pets are not allowed. This puts actual Service Animals and their owners in danger as ESAs are rarely trained to the same level and often misbehave in public.
Moral of the story, know your rights and know what rights someone else does not have

Another A.N.I.M. Interview!
Tumblr media
youtube
Another A.N.I.M. interview! This one was actually recorded back in March, and it’s my first-ever audio interview, so I apologize for my public speaking skills lol
The major takeaway I think from this interview is that when you spend money on a rulebook and/or adventure module, the burden should not fall on you to make the experience good. You should be able to rely on the rulebook to do a huge chunk of, if not most, of the work in a session. The rulebook should be providing a sturdy platform for the GM and players to stand on while they build their story, and ideally provide hammers, nails, screws, glue, paint, wood, scaffolding, cement, etc. for them to work with, and an adventure module should provide a structure at least half-built for them to work from, instead of making them put effort into just treading water while they also have to do all the other work.
If “listening for local rumors” is something a PC could feasibly do in an RPG, the rulebook should come with at least a DC to determine how difficult that is, so that the GM doesn’t have to make up a DC on the fly, then also determine what success or failure means on the fly.

Just odds and ends - feel free to answer what piques your interest and ignore the rest
Money - with 6 hit albums and Rick and Molly writing songs (and I would think owning publishing, since Irene is very good at her job), I was thinking Molly ought to at least have tens of millions of dollars. Though we see nothing indicating that. Thoughts?
Do you have any good ideas on how to incorporate Atlantis/the cheese wheel in the final battle? I'm contemplating a headcanon where Rebecca's families are genetically Atlantean. I just kind of like the idea of her being able to have a world in-sync with aging and have a real life and keep connections and so on.
Any ideas for future careers for Fi, Jack, and Clu? I've thought about urban planning or child psychologist for Jack - something helping people or making the world a better place. Fi could totally pursue tech, as she likes that, but she loves the supernatural and fighting evil. And, with her tech-ness, maybe long-term that could end up with website/channel about those thing while she did some traveling and world-saving. Clu's a difficult one for me - we've seen him try to make a documentary once and I guess John Kane could give him entry into the field. But I'm not sure I regard that as more than a passing fancy.
After the end - original season 3 version: Rick is back from the dead. I know Fi would want the whole world to know the truth of what happened. That would make things very different that our world. If we keep the SW-world outwardly seeming like the real world for the majority, then they are going to have to come up with a story about Rick. Any ideas on what it could be?
TZIGONE!! You have been in the fandom and the forum for years, and your questions always push me to think outside the box. I welcome it! I’m going to try my best to answer all of them.
Tumblr media
#1 - One
I’ve actually been working on something like this for a few weeks now! Ned’s comment to Molly about “being back in our old studio” (Medium) made me think of it. It’s too long to put here, and it’s very speculative, but there will be an upcoming deep dive on the success of PKB.
With that said, there’s a gap between Rick’s death and Molly restarting her music career. Chrysalis sort of fills in the blanks that Molly was an alcoholic after her husband died.
She might've spent a lot on her addiction (since we’re not sure how long that went on) and recovery (did she go to rehab?), lived off some of it before working in ads, and maybe doesn’t keep a lot of cash on hand for the sake of holding herself accountable.
Tumblr media
Rick could’ve had life insurance, they likely purchased their million-dollar home outright, we mostly hear Ned and Irene discuss money woes (the struggle of putting two boys through college, most of Nightmare, etc.), so Jack and Fi are likely set up, and are we sure Hope Springs High is a public school? The students spent at least three days of their spring break doing a science fair that involved a live performance complete with a buffet line for lunch. That doesn’t seem public-funded.
Tumblr media
My conclusion is comfortably upper class because they pinch pennies and are cash poor. Their net worth, not income, might be a few million.
#2 - Two
This one’s a little tricky but here’s what I came up with: in the original s3 Fi is contacted by an alien who is also a teenager with a lost parent and the same thing is happening throughout the universe that had sentient life on it.
The alien that contacts her is from space (above Earth), Atlantis is in the ocean (below Earth), and Fi is on Earth. She is “the destined leader in the fight against evil” … because she is the center. The alien is a teen, meaning it ages, but Rebecca (a possible Atlantean) is also a teenager, but ages slower, and has not lost a parent. Her existence goes against nature.
Tumblr media
But as above so below, so – and maybe this isn’t what you wanted but it’s where my brain has gone – does Fi have to, literally, break the wheel to free Rebecca from her immortality and right the universe? Or maybe similar to the Banshee tradeoff Fi gets a compromise that lets Rick live and Rebecca have a real life and remain immortal (or not)?
Rebecca’s family collected artifacts and Carey teased it would be the cheese wheel that finds Fi next time. While researching her father’s death Fi could come across old photos of Molly and Rebecca with the cheese wheel in the background. Fi can’t stop thinking about it and wheelie knows that.
Tumblr media
Unrelated: do we think the cheese wheel can roll like Rubber (2010)? I don’t think it would get that, pardon my language, cheesy and it shouldn’t be a gimmick but if it works…
#3 - Three
Jack would make a great child psychologist... or guidance counselor or recovery companion (the Chrysalis ending sort of plays in there). Long-term he could work within the prison system as an educator or even social worker. He has that no-nonsense approach.
Tumblr media
Clu is tough! Like you, I don’t put much weight in his film making endeavors. UC Santa Cruz is known for research and public service. Mutiny’s a good example of his compassion, plus he has an interest in surfing, so maybe something to do with oceanic sciences? Not necessarily a biologist (although wouldn’t that be a twist!), but maybe he uses his social skills to do presentations, apply for grants, and get funding for research projects. Aside from s3, which can be excluded or not, we don’t ever see how college *changes* him as he enters adulthood so that leaves a lot of possibilities.
Tumblr media
I agree with Fi getting in tech, maybe as a web developer for others (like helping lawyers have user-friendly websites since she practically insults Rachel’s note and research skills in Avatar😆). Through the show we see Tad give her software upgrades that she uses out of their initial, so she could end up working for (with) Tad. She could even expand her blog posts and online journal to a published book. More than Jack and Clu, I see Fi taking on different careers simultaneously.
#4 - Four
Hmm. Fi WOULD want everyone to know because she’s not good at secrets (like telling the internet about Rebecca), and this is where Fi’s credibility comes in to play. Fi’s time on the road and chronicling her experience means she has “proof” of other supernatural phenomenon that people like Ryan, Candy, James, Rebecca, Claire, etc. could believe and defender her on, even before she helps bring her dad back.
Tumblr media
We don’t know if Rick shared his findings, who with, or kept journals, so, yes, Fi would want to share and have an ally in Rick, but it would ultimately be his decision what to say. The safest explanation, as a writer, would be to play with folklore/the supernatural and, like the show, make up what suits the story.
For instance, wraiths are a supernatural creature So Weird never touched on. When I first learned about them I understood they were only allowed to come back to life after they fulfilled an order/task. Maybe in Rick’s case his task was guiding Fi (Web Sight, Troll, Twin) to save the universe. Other stories have wraiths as the enemy of vampires (!!) who haunt the living - think Molly’s dialogue at the end of Medium, Another World performance in Encore, the ending of The Muse. Rick could be that, a mix of wraith characteristics that still identify him as one, before returning entirely.
Tumblr media
That’s pretty out there BUT even Ryan accepted an unreasonable theory. And because of how Werewolf and Lost ended happily, as long as they’re not thought of too hard, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched if everyone accepted the story.
Rick’s return would be akin to Kamilah’s revival after a decade, except he wasn't in a coma, and Laura’s ability to change depending on the time of day, except he would be permanent.
Molly, Jack, the Bells, John Kane, the fans - they all knew he was dead. His every moment would be the proof that what happened, happened. And his return would give credibility to Fi's other findings and the people touched by her travels the same way that their experiences with her would give credibility that Rick’s story should be believed, whatever it may be.
Hopefully the lengthy answers make up for the lengthy response time. You always ask great questions, and hopefully you got some ideas out of this.

Planning
“Do you need help with that?”
“What?” Kili startled. He had been lost in his mental list of things that he needed to get done for the holidays. At the top of his list was “make a list.”
“Those,” Fili Durin pointed to the boxes filling Kili’s hands.
“No. Thanks. I’ve got it,” Kili replied, shouldering the door open.
“You don’t look like you’ve ‘got it,’” Fili said skeptically as the boxes teetered precariously.
“I’m fine,” Kili said more brusquely than intended. He did not want to be friends with Fili Duirn. He was the person that the town had brought in to design a new downtown. And that pretty much always meant more roads and more parking which meant more money was needed to maintain the roads and then there was  less money for the library and functional landscaping that Kili advocated for. And as one of the town’s part-time librarians he felt that it was his job to give this errant urban planner the shoulder, no matter how good he looked in a flannel shirt and Chelsea boots.
“I really can get the door for you.”
Kili did not respond and managed to open the door into the post office without dropping any of the packages that he had carefully packed and labeled just that morning in between customers in his stop of odds and ends. He tried to keep the website current, and, even though that was not his favorite task, a significant portion of his business came through the internet.
“Christmas presents?”
Kili’s eyes rolled so far back in his head that he could feel his head tip back. “No,” he replied without turning around.
“What’s in the packages then?”
“Orders.”
“What kind of orders?”
Kili turned around. “Orders that get mailed. I’m assuming that you have something that needs to be mailed and that’s why you followed me in here.”
“I was here before you, so, technically, you followed me.”
Kili snorted.
“And yes, I am mailing something—Christmas cards,” Fili pulled a thick stack of luxurious white envelopes from his field jacket’s pocket as proof.
“I would have pegged you as the ‘e-mailed greeting card’ or ‘post on social media’ person.”
Fili grimaced in disgust, scrunching his nose. “Absolutely not.”
“That would be more efficient.”
“In some ways.”
“And urban planners are all about efficiency,” Kili grumbled. He turned away from Fili to face the back of the person ahead of him in line, hoping that this meant the conversation was at an end. He wanted to ask what sort of cards Fili was mailing. Those envelopes suggested something more expensive than the box of 20 cards that you could buy in any drug store. Books and paper were Kili’s forte. He once spent an afternoon arguing with someone (online!) about the pros and cons of Tomoe River Paper versus MIO paper.
And then it was his turn. Kili set all the packages down and made small talk with the postal employee about the weather and the upcoming holiday parade and the town’s annual Sip and Shop.
“Sip and Shop?” Fili was leaning on the counter at the window next to his.
Kili really did try not to notice how Fili’s eyes almost sparkled (how gross was that? And, more importantly, how was it even possible?) when he asked the question. “Haven’t you seen the fliers? They’re everywhere.”
Fili turned to face Kili more fully, one elbow still propped on the counter. “Maybe. But I don’t think I get it.”
“It’s to promote shopping local over the holidays,” Janice, one of the postal workers said.
“There’s an ordinance in place that lets the restaurants downtown serve wine and beer alongside appetizers while people shop and enjoy the Christmas displays and lights.”
“That’s a good idea. And it sounds fun.”
“It is a great time,” Janice said. And then she gave him his total for his postage. “Have a good rest of your Friday,” she said with a smile.
And Fili was still hot on Kili’s heels when they were leaving the squat brick building that housed the post office. “Are you going to be joining in the sipping and shopping?”
“I probably have to work.” Kili waved goodbye and climbed on his bike before Fili could say anything more.
Kili did not see it, but Fili watched him pedal away,
The downtown was glowing with Christmas lights. Most of the stores had put up lights at the very least, some had displays, and others had their employees dressed up like elves. He smiled and took a sip of his hot chocolate.
This time of year was Kili’s favorite. He had many fond memories of reading books with his parents and helping with the Christmas shopping and preparations.
“Hard at work I see.”
Kili could not even summon the annoyance that he tried to hold close to his chest whenever Fili was around. He shrugged. “This is work,” Kili gestured to the streets. “Supporting my town.”
“Hmm.” Fili nodded. His bare hands were wrapped around a paper cup.
“What drink did you pick?” Kili asked.
“Oh,” Fili lifted the cup to peer at the marker label, “the Krampus, I think it was?”
“That’s a good one.”
“You?”
“Hot chocolate. I would have gotten their peppermint mocha, but if I have caffeine after dinner I’ll be up all night.”
“Ah. I don’t have that problem, but I’ve always been a night owl.”
Kili nodded and they stood next to one another in silence. But it wasn’t a tense or uncomfortable silence, like Kili would have expected. It was companionable. Comfortable even.
“It’s nice that they closed the street for this,” Fili said.
Kili tensed, “Something that probably won’t happen once you’re done.”
“What?’ Fili’s expression was bewildered.
“You’re here to redesign the downtown.”
“Yeah…” Fili said slowly. “And what do you think that entails?”
Kili huffed, blowing his bangs off his forehead. “What it always does—wider streets, more parking, and so on.”
“Have you seen any of my work?”
“No.”
“That’s not what I do at all,” Fili said. “See those painted areas by the corner?”
“Yeah,” Kili grumped. He was both pleased and displeased to maybe be proven wrong.
“Those are to allow for something called ‘daylighting’ which means that the cars can see cars in the intersecting road, but also that they can see pedestrians and pedestrians can see the cars without stepping into the way of traffic.”
“That sounds fine.”
“It is. But paint doesn’t stop people from parking there. And it doesn’t stop an errant car from breaching the sidewalk. My plans have the road narrowing at the intersection to force daylighting, but there will also be bollards to protect pedestrians from those cars should they exit their lanes. The bollards will also visually narrow the lane which will encourage cars to slow down. Narrower lanes will help with that as well.”
Kili’s expression softened as he listened. “That all sounds good.”
“It is,” Fili replied. It will encourage more foot traffic, which will bring more sales to all these little shops. There will still be street parking, and the parking behind the shops, but what already exists is actually more than adequate, it could actually stand to be reduced to make the downtown even more walkable.”
Kili raised his eyebrows.
“Not what you expected?”
“No,” Kili shook his head. “That’s not what I expected at all.”
“Sometimes it’s good to be surprised,” Fili replied with a wink.
“It is. But it also solves some inner conflict I had been having.”
“Oh?” Fili cocked his head.
Kili reached out with the pretense of brushing a strand of hair from Fili’s face, but it was just an excuse to trace his thumb over Fili’s cheekbone. “Yeah,” he replied softly. “And that’s that I didn’t want our town being ruined by more parking and more cars, but I also really wanted to invite you back to mine and to find out how much of a night owl you are.”
“Oh.”

sighing like an old dog
literally nobody gets it. nobody gets it and i can’t even put it in words properly so nobody gets it even more. i really planned to go to school A four years ago but my current school, which i had only applied to as a backup plan and that people generally see as inferior to others in the system, gave me the scholarship that essentially covered half my tuition—the most money i had ever had in my whole life. i would have been stupid not to take that, even though i secretly wished someone else had given it. and when school A offered nothing, it was even clearer which one i should take. i went into this all thinking of it as the economic choice, the practical choice; i didn’t follow my heart to my current school and i just resolved to do my best regardless of my feelings.
but now school A is fully funding me to come to them and keeps fucking bothering me to submit my statement of intent to register and sign up for housing that doesn’t have air conditioning and they won’t publicly show on their website, and i know that 2020 me would be jumping at the opportunity to get out, but 2024 me does not feel that way. four years and i have come to like my current school, come to appreciate the chance it gives to underrepresented students to shine and succeed. sure, many of my peers came to my current school as a backup plan and are vocal in their indifference to the community, but so many others are first-generation students, undocumented, came from backgrounds far from privilege, were given the opportunity to study at the university and seized it with both hands. i’ve met so many professors who made their home here and are so excited about the work they do, about outreach and lifting students up and making a difference in a community that is so often the butt of jokes about our politics or not being as bougie as other regions or whatever
it’s not being prideful that is making me think about how school A did not at first offer me funding and now gives it to me. i mention it because i am consumed by how my current school started out as the economic choice and ended up being like a home. and even though picking school A would be the choice of my younger self, would not make it look like my current school was the only one to take me, and would result in the lesser amount of scrutiny from people who think i settled for less when i picked my current school—i don’t know if i could make it feel like home. i never know if i don’t try, but…
i was born near school A. i’ve been back there almost every summer. the area of my early childhood no longer feels that way. it’s gotten overgrown, sprawling, urban; teslas on the streets, luxury cars everywhere, exorbitant housing prices that would make it impossible to live anywhere but on campus. designer clothes, fashionable, consumerism. which exists elsewhere, but it’s not the place i remember from when i was a child. not the place i played in with my best friend who moved away to england for uni. i wondered why she didn’t stay. i wonder if she’ll come back.
i don’t know. i just want to lie down and cry. why must this be so difficult

Drive-to urbanism: trying to make 'fetch' happen
Darin Givens / 12-11-2023
Someone asked me recently how long I've been posting about urbanism with the ATL Urbanist handle (across various platforms) and it occurred that it's been about 14 years.
I've been extraordinarily lucky to have this platform, all these great followers on my accounts, and to have gotten coverage from local and national media.
One anecdote from my journey...
In the early days I essentially "tried to make fetch happen" by coining a phrase to describe a type of urban density that's not particularly walkable: drive-to urbanism.
Tumblr media
Angie Schmitt covered one of my posts on the Streetsblog website in 2017 and the phrase seemed to take off a bit. In the post, I was writing about the problematic lack of sidewalk & crosswalk connectivity on Atlanta's Huff Road, where apartment development was booming. You could drive to the apartments, but you couldn't walk to them from nearby neighborhoods in a safe, inviting way.
In the end, fetch didn't quite happen. But I do feel privileged to have had at least a small voice in a large conversation about urbanism.
And I'm optimistic that Atlantans and other American city dwellers are increasingly aware of a problematic type of infill density that gets built the wrong way in terms of walkability. Our urban growth needs to be matched with great pedestrian routes and connective 'tissue' between neighborhoods, and it needs to avoid being weighed down with excessive parking. (In other words, stop building drive-to urbanism).
Anyway, this probably all sounds like a humble brag, and maybe it is. But it's also me being genuinely grateful. My amateur interest in urban design hasn't paid off in money (not that I tried) but it's given me a voice in the conversation. I appreciate it.
