Vision of The Great Shadow Youma

Late submission for @smvillainsweek 2023 Day 3, theme: Prophecy. This piece is also (loosely) inspired by the "Our Super Weapon R" fan manga from 2003, by Senhi Shinban and Kazuyuki Tsukine, though I've reworked the ideas to fit my own story: "The peace talks between the Golden Kingdom of Earth and the Silver Millennium Kingdom of the Moon were finally going well. The people of Earth would take more convincing, but Queen Calyce and Queen Serenity were already good friends, and agreed on a plan to establish nine "Crystal Points" within the Golden Kingdom, giving the Earth's people the same longevity enjoyed by those living on the Moon. Prince Endymion and his four Heavenly Knights were busy keeping the peace, fending off a series of energy-draining attacks (perpetrated by servants of a mysterious Dark Pact: the dark "Princess" Osakaite, and her minion, Ullmannite the spy). In the meanwhile, the prince sent his trusted assistants, the Seven Warriors of Fortune, to meet with the four guardian soldiers of the Moon Princess to help plan the Crystal Points. The shy young Warrior Bunbo and the kind genius Sailor Mercury got along quite well- but when Bunbo finally worked up his courage to shake her hand, he had a terrible vision- and the dreadful feeling that it was already too late...!" The day 4 piece goes with this one, and includes an explanation of the manga "Our Super Weapon R" (which has a different telling of the Seven Great Youma's adventures during the corruption of the Earth Kingdom):

025: Jupiter, the Powerful Girl in Love

The Guardians barely have time to mourn the loss of Nephrite before a powerful new enemy rises to fill his rank. Zoisite is targeting “Rainbow Crystal Carriers”, unsuspecting civilians possessing fragments of latent power, but gets more than he bargained for when he targets the crush of Makoto Kino, brawling schoolgirl and Usagi’s newest friend.

026: Restore Naru's Smile: Usagi's Friendship

Naru’s feeling a bit down, and after witnessing her evil-not-evil crush evaporate before her eyes in order to protect her, can you blame her? Perhaps a nice trip to the cemetery might cheer her up. Oh no!

027: Crushing on Ami: The Boy Who Can See the Future

There’s a new boy at Juuban Junior High, and he’s the only one who might come close to Ami’s test scores. Binah and Bakene (Yumeno Yumemi and Rhett Butler)

Late submission for Day 4 of @smvillainsweek 2023, theme: "Origin / Reincarnation". This is the past life of Yumemi Yumeno and Rhett Butler- two of the Seven Great Youma-, before the Golden Kingdom had fully become the Dark Kingdom and before the invasion of the moon. This piece is directly Inspired by the "Our Super Weapon R" doujinshi / fan manga from 2003, by Senhi Shinban and Kazuyuki Tsukine. It was a completed 3 volume doujinshi (which is SFW, and involves all seven Great Youma (especially Ryo Urawa / Bunbo), as well as Naru, Thetis, the Shitennou, the Makaiju aliens, and other characters). Our Super Weapon R has never been fully translated, but raw Japanese scans can be found on MissDream (as well as volume 2 and volume 3). This year marks the 20th anniversary of this cool doujinshi! Here's their original artwork for comparison:

I'd love to see a full translation of this doujinshi, since I've been trying to read it with Google translate and can only get a rough idea of the story. It seems like a kindred spirit to some of my own ideas, and an inspiration I'd like to be able to reference in my own project! First though, I still want to make more pieces for Villains week. I have ideas for all 7 days but I only have day 6's piece started yet- hopefully I can go back and do my other ideas over the course of October? We'll see.

While sailor mercury and the rest are dead in the manga universe during stars and sailor moon is gone to resurrect them it takes seven months. In that time that timeline’s Ryo becomes the big hero but is different in this universe. He goes to far and murders enemies, even taunting them to pull a weapon as an excuse to kill them without consequences . When mercury and her friends are brought back to life she meets him and is horrified at this actions but she recognizes their is good in him. She and her friends capture Ryo and she does a ritual  on him with powers she got from being revived by sailor moon. He loses the evil that made him go overboard and him mercury and him eventually marry and have a child.

Favorite Ami Pairing

Hey, I finally can post polls, so how about doing some fun polling in the lead up to Sailor Moon Rare Pair Week?

Options were taken from @phantomstatistician's fabulous Fanfiction Shipping Charts that I reblogged in the lead up to last year's event. (You can find them here.) For all the polls, if there were less than nine characters on a chart - everyone gets "Other" for the tenth choice - I came up with bonus pairings that seemed reasonable enough or I had seen fanworks for in the past. If there were more than nine, I mostly took the top choices (combining them when referring to different versions of the same person), but sometimes I did take some liberties, giving preference to canon love interests (such as Ace Kaitou and Alan for Minako and Yuuichirou for Rei) who were surprisingly under-represented on the charts over some very rare fan pairings. (Keep in mind that the charts were based on authors' tags, and some people do not realize there's a difference between / and &, which might account for some of these pairings.)

I was talking about Sailor Moon's youma with Lan the other day, specifically how they're portrayed in the classic anime, and hit upon something horrific:

Youma are the only monsters of the week that can take human form, and a few of them, most notably Thetis, are shown in human form in the Dark Kingdom/"Negaverse" when you'd think it wouldn't be necessary. We don't see how the existing youma were created (IIRC), but we do witness civilians being brainwashed and given the ability to become youma--the closest parallel in later MotWs are the Lemures, who are all the dreamless animated corpses of Nehelenia's court. The Seven Great Youma were reincarnated as humans (and one cat), the only time that MotW are ever shown to do this.

Ergo, the youma that weren't transformed civilians must be the members of the Earth Kingdom army that survived the assault on the Moon Kingdom.

An additional point of horror: I don't think it's too much of a stretch to assume that a youma's human form is their true one (though at least two were shown to copy other people's forms; chalk it up to Dark Kingdom magic). If everyone who reincarnates in SM looks the same in the past and the present... well, imagine Ryo Urawa's past self cutting down Moon Kingdom soldiers. Or worse, Grandpa Hino's guys fighting against Sailor Mars.

Sailor Moon Rarepair Week 2022 - Day 6: Wish

They rode the train home each day together.

Neither talking, neither really facing the other, just sitting quietly enjoying each other’s’ presence.

Seeing the future was no call to be bold, Ryo knew. Especially when what he would tentatively call his “dream girl” possessed the power to freeze and/or drown enemies should the mood strike her.

Ryo would rather not be Ami’s enemy.

In fact, in those quiet moments when no-one else was around and the worries he often carried could be ignored because he’d had a great day, he dreamed of being the exact opposite of Ami’s enemy.

Especially when all that was between them was an empty seat of a metropolitan train he dared not occupy for fear of upsetting her (he’d heard about the love letter incident).

Maybe it was just wishful thinking, but still

It wasn’t like it was a baseless crush.

She was smart, kind, courageous, and pretty. Out of his league, really.

But at least she gave him the time of day.

She had ever since he’d moved back to Azabu-Juuban and they’d started taking classes together.

It was a rather nice arrangement, too. They’d seek each other out when Ami wasn’t spending time with her friends to have lunch or to talk about studies or how things were going at home. The usual stuff.

But the highlight of his day was when he realized that their routes home was joined by way of the same train.

And for a brief 53 minutes and 17 seconds, he was able to be within the orbit of the object of his affections since middle school.

Right now, the object of his affections had her gaze on a copy of Don Quixote.

He’d memorized the books she’d read each time they traveled the train together.

Jane Eyre, Crime and Punishment, Tess of the D’Urbervilles, Great Expectations, and four books about Einstein.

And every day, he had sat there, wishing he could just hold her hand.

But he didn’t want to rush her.

He’d heard all about the hives thing and her list of priorities, but to be fair it was alright if she didn’t want a boyfriend. As long as she was happy, that was good enough for him.

A little, heartbreaking sigh emanated from her.

“What is it?” he asked.

“There’s a page missing,” she said, putting a silken royal blue bookmark between the pages. As she put the book back into her bag, Ryo could see the scuffing and faded letters on the cover, the barcode in the upper right corner confirming it was indeed a library book.

“Oh,” Ryo said, “I’m sorry to hear that.”

“It’s alright,” Ami said, giving that heartstring-tugging smile only she could give, “I can always find it online.”

Well, if he was gonna make his wish a reality (without being a total jerk) it was now or never.

All he had to do was hold out his and… and…

He couldn’t do it.

She was too smart, and brave, and too… too… Ami.

What did he have to offer her?

“Ryo?”

Ryo found himself jolted out of his pity party

By Ami’s voice.

“Yes, what is it?”

She wasn’t looking at him, rather at her shoes, but there was a dusting of red on her cheeks and for a millisecond, Ryo Urawa dared think the word “maybe…”

“Would you mind…”

She didn’t finish the question, instead just daintily holding out her hand to him. Ryo felt his own face flush when he realized what she was asking.

He gingerly took her hand, and soon it was resting on the seat between them.

Maybe wishes really do come true after all.
