Ah, thanks for that! I had a strong recollection it was debunked but then saw it referenced in one of amoralto’s posts and wondered if I remembered wrong.

I haven’t gotten to Jan 10 in the Nagra reels yet, but it does seem highly unlikely given how passive aggressive everything is. Plus how easily they mock reports of it later.

Really weird bit for George Martin to make up though. Unless it was a bit of game of telephone. I guess if the walkout was following a closed Beatles only lunch, all kinds of speculation was running about that day.

Dragon Quest IX: INNS POLL

Since my last DQ9 poll went so well, let me try this again.

Honourable mentions to the healing place at the Observatory, and the Dormitory at Swinedimples, it's cool that they're free (seriously if you heal anywhere other than Swinedimples after finishing the quests in that town, you're doing something wrong), but they aren't technically inns.

Dishonourable mention to Porth Llaffan, Tumblr polls only allow 12 options, and this charming seaside inn was too boring to make the cut.

Celestrian Masterlist

I have some fittingly angelic OC's that I wanted to give a DQIX AU, so I looked through the wiki + double-checked some stuff of my own accord and felt like sharing it here too - this list will be updated as I replay through the game and do things like "counting every single Celestrian found in game" and similar fascinating tasks. This list will likely contain spoilers, as well as the birds each of the constellations the Celestrians are named after are associated with. NON-GUARDIANS: - Apus Major, leader and eldest of the Celestrians. His bird is a bird of paradise :) - Columba, presumably a librarian. Her bird is a dove. Seems to have been familiar with Corvus previously, and is close with Aquila now - Aquila, former Guardian of Angel Falls, twin brother of Pavo, the protagonist's mentor and former apprentice of Corvus. His bird is the eagle. - Pavo, the one who opens and closes the Rapportal and allows the player to use the multiplayer function. The only Celestrian to live in the Protectorate, and (younger) twin sister of Aquila. Her bird is the peacock. GUARDIANS: - You! :) Angel Falls is all yours - Tucana, one of two Guardians of Stornway. Their bird is the toucan! - Cygnus, the other of the two Guardians of Stornway. Their bird is the swan. - Vultur, Guardian of Gleeba. Their bird is, as one might guess, the vulture. - Noctua, Guardian of Swinedimples Academy. Fittingly, their bird is an owl. - Corvus, the sort-of-sort-of-not Guardian of Wormwood Creek. His bird is the crow.

OTHER GUARDIAN STATUES: - Zere - noted to be crumbling and broken. I'd assume this is because the villagers treat the tree at the centre of the village as a guardian instead. - Coffinwell - two statues, actually, but no names - Alltrades Abbey - weirdly, none. There is a statue behind Abbot Jack, but I think that looks more like Celestria, personally. Noting it regardless! - Zere Rocks - has a statue, but given the context of how it was made there's no way to know if it would even have a Guardian to go with it. - Bloomingdale - statue, no name This leaves us with Porth Llaffan (which worships Leviathan over the Celestrians), Slurry Quay, Dourbridge, Batsureg (nomadic, might not have statues because of this) and Upover (which has Greygnarl) without statues, but not necessarily without Guardians. I also made a point of checking Gerzuun (which does have a church, notably, and the bodura grass as a thing to worship) and Brigadoom, but couldn't find any there either. Beyond that, all Celestrians are unnamed (I'll get to how many of those there are later!). That being said, there are actually two major bird related constellations left (that I could find with some very surface level research) that aren't used as names within the game. Namely Grus (crane) and Phoenix (self-explanatory). I like to think that Phoenix would be a good fit for Alltrades Abbey, given the association with rebirth, though I'm still figuring out where I personally would place Grus. (I also think that Phoenix would be a very interesting fit for Brigadoom or Zere, Rocks or otherwise, for similar reasons) That being said, since most of the constellation names for birds are also just their genuses, it's pretty easy to find a number of canon compliant names that will fit right in should you choose to make your own :) happy questing !

i need u to understand i was on a train yesterday. so i had so much time to draft a dragon quest 9 infodump <- threat

INFODUMP BELOW:

OKAY SO DRAGON QUEST 9

originally i got drawn to it bc it let you play as a girl which was very important to preteen me. also i only had the nintendo ds so i was playing like. basically any game i could beg my parents for shdjsks. the other games that krungled me were like. the professor layton series. harvest moon. you know?

anyway so the premise is. the Almighty made angels to keep an eye on the world below (the protectorate). The angels reside high above the lands below, in a place called the Observatory. you play as a junior angel, assigned along with your teacher Aquila to watch over the small sleepy village of Angel Falls. Your job is to do good deeds and help out the people who live there, in exchange for an ethereal representation of their gratefulness- a weird blueish green glowing blob called benevolessence. the angels use benevolessence to feed the world tree yggdrasil in the hopes that it will one day bear fruit. The fruit of yggdrasil heralds the return of the angels to the side of the Almighty.

The game starts on your first day as guardian of angel falls, having taken over the job from Aquila. you spend the day helping out the villagers, and collecting benevolessence, and after you return to the Observatory to drop off your benevolessence, you find that yggdrasil has borne fruit. As the celestial express (literally a flying golden train) comes to collect the angels to take them to the realm of the almighty, a beam of light blasts up from the world below, sending you (and the celestial express) tumbling down to the world below.

you wake up in angel falls, missing your wings and your ability to see benevolessence, but retaining your ability to see ghosts and magical creatures. eventually you find the fallen celestial express, along with its controller, a fairy named stella.

You then set off on a quest together, both to collect enough benevolessence to get the celestial express running, and then to figure out why you fell.

it's genuinely one of my favourite games. you make your own party, so there's no like. fixed party members. and there's a small character creator to customise your little guys. ALSO the place names are puns. i'm told by a friend who had played more of the dragon quest games that this is a staple of them but. there's a quest where you have to infiltrate a boarding school called swinedimples. instead of hogwarts. there's a town called upover where everyone talks with australian accents. it's built into a mountain. the main villains of the game are the gittish empire. a play on the british empire. who are gits.

anyway it's genuinely a good game despite its age and the whole thing of like. yeah you're an angel. but you fell. and you're still beholden to angel rules and the final boss of the game is also a fallen angel like you and just!!! good fucking game dude. sorry if you didn't want spoilers but. it drives me crazy. anyway highly recommend it if you ever decide to play it!!

So it was tough figuring out something for the lions cause their whole thing in canon was being the chi protectors and i kinda already took that from them

But then @sweetheart-weeb-33 suggested that they be very knowledgeable about chi

And looking at the way i perceive chi and everything to do with it that means the lions are Christians now

Imagine living in one of those lion cities they probably don't believe in the separation of church and state ew

You think out of everyone in chima the religious ones would get some divine inspiration from the guys upove or something but nope gods ignore them just like everyone else cause gods believe in equality

But chi stuff isn't all about religion these guys also get into politics they just want everyone to get along and have a nice time

They like to insert themselves into everyones problems to make themselves feel like the good guys for helping everyone with their issues

Time for another DQ9 Poll

Honourable mention to the one in the Observatory, it's quite nice, if a bit small, but the services are limited, and I'm not entirely sure why the angels need a distinct area to be a church, you'd think the entire place would basically be a big church.

Dishonourable mention to imprisoned priest at the Gortress, he doesn't have a church, and as I recall he chooses to remain in prison after being freed, and to the ghost priest at Gittingham Palace, again no church, and dead.
