note: i am trying something a bit different this year, so bear with me as i figure out how i want to format this. i wanted to spend more time sharing what i consume, beyond what i rb, and put my thoughts in one place. ✨ = personal fav

The Barber of Little Rock, YouTube (watched on 2/17) A sharp take on the economic injustice in the town divide of Little Rock. Very concise with its message, “A tree is known by the fruit that it bears. So, if I don’t see any fruit, I don’t see any impact. If you have money and you have wealth and you can’t create impact, what’s the point?” — Island in Between, YouTube (watched on 2/19) Loved the updated storytelling of displacement and crisis of identity when COVID-19 is thrown into the mix. I hope the families that have been torn apart due to COVID measures have/will be reunited soon. — Pachyderme, Vimeo (watched on 2/22) The medium matched the tone of the story wonderfully and the pacing was well executed. — The Last Repair Shop, Shortverse ✨ (watched on 2/23, pictured left) SPECTACULAR! Truly shines on every level. The only short that made me tear up in the end. — Invincible, Shortverse (watched on 2/25) The actor who portrays the protagonist is so talented! If he continues to nurture his acting, I can’t wait to see what he does next. — The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, Netflix✨ (watched on 3/2, pictured right) I truly believe this deserved the win, it was magical from beginning to end. It makes me want to backtrack and see the other Roald Dahl shorts. — Ninety-Five Senses, DOC+ ✨ (watched on 3/3, pictured top) This one took me by surprise! Beautiful storytelling and utilization of the theme and medium to its fullest potential. Very much worthy of its nomination, bravo. — Ridder Lykke, Shortverse (watched on 3/6) What a delightful way to end the shorts journey. The most unique, original take on grief that left me smiling.

Watched Nai Nai & Wài Pó (review here) and Letter to a Pig last year.

Nimona, Netflix (watched on 3/2) I am a simple person, I see those big brown eyes and I buckle. What a wild journey it has been to follow the development of this film and I am so happy for Nate and everyone involved. — Rustin, Netflix (watched on 3/4) One of the very few instances where I really wished a movie was produced as a limited series. I want his story to be fleshed out more, I wanted to feel the full weight of what that march did for him and for history. Colman Domingo’s charm shines in this role. — Elemental, Disney+✨ (watched on 3/7, pictured bottom) If you told me this time last year that this movie would leave me sobbing at 1am, I would have told you you were crazy and to get some rest. What else is there to say that others haven’t said already. I am so happy that the younger generations have this alongside the likes of Moana and Turning Red. — Poor Things, Hulu (watched on 3/11) This was… a film. I did like the aromantic aspects of Bella Baxter and the dynamic she has with Max. Still trying to sort through my thoughts, but the fact that it still can make me think is… something. — The Holdovers, Peacock✨ (watched on 3/12, pictured top) I love me a great ensemble cast and everyone was on the top of their game with this gem. The director, cinematographer, production designer, and colorist work together seamlessly. Fantastic, truly extraordinary. — American Symphony, Netflix (watched on 3/20) I had this film on my radar before the Oscar noms were announced, so I anticipated tackling this movie hoping it was part of the doc category. In the end, I chose to tackle this movie despite its only nom under Original Song. Having tackled the Documentary categories, this would have been one of the weaker ones amongst the docs I’ve seen but still a very worthy story to tell.

Watched Barbie and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse last year; I hope to still catch Oppenheimer and Robot Dreams later this year.

Perfect Days, In Theaters ✨(JAPAN, watched on 2/15, pictured right) This was the only Oscar nom that I caught in theaters this year (whereas the majority were on YT/streaming). This movie will hold a very special place in my heart having experienced this in theaters with a great group of people. Wim Wenders deserved this nomination, this is one of his best. — Bobi Wine: The People’s President, Hulu (UGANDA, watched on 2/28) I am so glad I watched this movie. This is a true heavyweight of a film. So much passion, pain, and tenacity. — 20 Days in Mariupol, PBS (UKRAINE, watched on 3/6, DNF) I will be completely honest, I almost made it to the end but could not watch the last 20 minutes. During the Oscar speech, when the filmmaker said he wished he didn’t make this film, I felt every word of that. It is so, so hard to watch but NECESSARY. — El Conde, Netflix (CHILE, watched on 3/8) Of all the noms I had to catch up on this season, this was the only one that landed on mid for me. It is as advertised, a dark horror comedy, but it doesn’t challenge itself. The cinematography was its best attribute. — Four Daughters, Netflix✨ (TUNISIA, watched on 3/23, pictured middle) I’m positive this was the BEST thing I watched this Oscar season. I want to 🎶siiiiiiiiiIIIINNNGGGG all the highest praises🎵. I am obsessed with the way the filmmaker brings us a half step back behind the camera, showing all facets of the story in front of and behind the camera. I want to talk about it more but it’s better to go into this fresh. I’m obsessed, I’m obsessed, IM OBSESSEDDD. — Society of the Snow, Netflix✨ (URUGUAY, watched on 3/24, pictured left) If this movie came out ten years ago, my only wish is that hellsite would have obsessed over these boys the same way we did for all my Les Amis. The cherry on top was seeing that Michael Giacchino composed the score. What a way to end the Oscar watch journey this season.

I hope to still catch Io Capitano and The Boy and the Heron later this year.

writing-sharing sites and my research on them

A few months ago I started looking into all of the potential sites I could use to share Her Broken Magic, to make sure the ones I chose properly fit the story's needs. I'll add everything I found here, and if anyone has more info, more sites, or corrections (I am far from a professional researcher) please add them to this post!

So, I started by making a list of what was important to me when sharing my story. For example, I do NOT want to put HBM behind a paywall, but I would also like to add ways to monetize the story otherwise, through donations, ads, paid subscriptions for exclusive or early released content, etc.

This is the full list I came up with:

Once I had that, I then converted that into a kind of fill-out form/checklist that I could hold up to each site and see how they met my needs.

Then, I made a list of all sites and ways I could think of to share my story. I have since heard of more sites, but I don't currently have research on them bc by the time I'd heard of them I had already chosen 3 sites I wanted to post to. But again, if anyone has suggestions/additions, please rb with them!

Seems largely self-moderated, so it will be on the author to get rid of spam or harmful comments. There does seem to be a very active forum to provide some community aspect.

Accepts mature content: Apparently stuff that’s too mature for wattpad gets posted here, so yes.

Decent shareability on both PC and mobile (and does reading/sharing require an account): Yes, no account required

Built-in traffic or advertising: Yes

Decent customer support: No, but there is the active forum for troubleshooting, advice, etc.

The Vibe: the company/site seems to be negligent at best and predatory at worst, but gd I love the commenting, readability, and shareability of the writing. There are some great features. Would never sign a contract with them tho.

Offers monetization options for extras, early releases: No, but popular stories have the chance to become monetized/subscription-based

Allows visual art alongside written content: I’ve seen gifs at the end of chapters so maybe?

The Vibe: wattpad is so heavily geared toward teens and fanfic that I don’t think it’s right for my story, plus I’ve heard the community there can be pretty toxic. However, seems like it could be good when just starting out.

Tapas Novels

Allows free base content: Yes, though most are not free

Offers monetization options for extras, early releases: Yes, for early release

Requires contract: No

Requires exclusivity: No

Ability to edit/update content: Yes

Accessible readability on both PC and mobile: Yes

Clean UI/no intrusive ads: Yes

Good interactive element (comments, moderation, bonus: community aspect): They don’t do paragraph comments, but do have chapter comments and their moderation system seems decent. Also, there is an official forum where readers and creators can interact, and actually I see a lot of WEBTOON users going to the Tapas forums to get their questions about WT answered lmao.

Allows visual art alongside written content: Yes, I think so!

Accepts mature content: Guideline quote on sexual content: “Any novel’s intended purpose should not be to solely provide erotic satisfaction (i.e. porn without plot).” On violence, it says the “glorification or promotion of self-harm” is restricted.

Decent shareability on both PC and mobile (and does reading/sharing require an account): Yes, and reading/sharing does not require an account

Built-in traffic or advertising: Yes

Decent customer support: Not really, from what I can tell, though there is an active forum which can help with troubleshooting.

The Vibe: I’m very impressed with this one so far. Seems well-maintained, professional, legit, and accessible.

Updated note on Tapas: Apparently there is a 15k character limit on Tapas chapters, which according to a friend I know who uses it, that usually equals around 2.5k words, so keep that in mind.

Royal Road

Allows free base content: Yes

Offers monetization options for extras, early releases: No, BUT they have a donation link on stories that connects directly to the author’s Patreon or PayPal, and they don’t take a cut.

Requires contract: No

Requires exclusivity: No

Ability to edit/update content: Yes

Accessible readability on both PC and mobile: Decent

Clean UI/no intrusive ads: They have the bane of my existence on mobile, which is those ads that change size so they make the screen jump randomly. However, they do have a Premium version where you can remove ads.

Good interactive element (comments, moderation, bonus: community aspect): Yes. I have heard a ton of very positive experiences with the community here, and there is an active forum.

Allows visual art alongside written content: I don’t think so, but you can share any visual art on the forums Someone corrected me on twitter and apparently it does!

Accepts mature content: Yes if tagged appropriately, but check the guidelines for specifics, and no sexual artwork is allowed at all and will result in an immediate ban.

Decent shareability on both PC and mobile (and does reading/sharing require an account): Decent (must share the link), doesn’t require an account

Built-in traffic or advertising: Some

Decent customer support: Yes

The Vibe: seems like a really great community, a bit smaller but therefore more dedicated, maybe a little stricter with the rules when it comes to story content.

Update: this is anecdotal evidence, but I have heard from a friend who uses RR that there can be a little non-welcoming if your story has LGBTQ+ elements to it. Again, I want to reiterate that this is anecdotal, but still wanted to mention it.

Personal Blog

All of the answers to the checklist items depend on you, how you format your blog, how much effort/time you want to put in, etc.

The Vibe: god this seems like so much work, but the complete and total freedom is appealing.

Kindle Direct Publishing

Not made for serialized fiction. That’s what Kindle Vella is for apparently. Or Kindle Vella is just a branch of KDP? Not sure.

Kindle Vella

Allows free base content: No, only the first 3 episodes are free. Also, all of the reviews on stories I’ve seen so far have been very positive for the story but said they hate Vella and it’s too expensive lmao

Offers monetization options for extras, early releases: No

Requires contract: No

Requires exclusivity: No, as long as it is not shared for free elsewhere.

Ability to edit/update content: Yes

Accessible readability on both PC and mobile: I can’t find a way to change size/font/etc but that may be because I am not smart enough to do so

Good interactive element (comments, moderation, bonus: community aspect): No, only reader interaction available (that I see) is reviews on the story. Oh, except episodes do have polls for the readers, which is kind of cool.

The Vibe: seems solid. Kinda like a personal blog that’s already made for you. People say it’s like Twitter but longer, and that sounds accurate from what I’ve seen. I don’t think I’d use it by itself to share my story, but could be a helpful supplementary site

Allows free base content: Yes? I’ve heard conflicting things. I think it can be free if you do the “wait to unlock” thing.

Offers monetization options for extras, early releases: Yes for early release

Requires contract: Don’t think so, but you must apply and your story be accepted. I think all accepted writers are paid tho

Requires exclusivity: No

Ability to edit/update content: Can’t find anything on this from an initial search, but I assume that you can because it wouldn’t really make sense for them to not allow you to do that.

Accessible readability on both PC and mobile: There is no browser/PC version of Radish. It’s all through their app. But the app readability is great, text and background can be adjusted, etc.

Clean UI/no intrusive ads: Yes

Good interactive element (comments, moderation, bonus: community aspect): Just a basic comment system, mostly self-moderated.

Allows visual art alongside written content: Yes. I’ve seen webcomics on here have full novel text versions. Pretty cool that it allows both within the same story.

The Vibe: seems very professional, looks really polished, gives the vibe that the content there is decent quality. Not sure if it is right for me because it seems the app is heavily geared toward romance, and my story has romance but is not a Romance story u kno?

Decent customer support: Unsure. Have heard some good experiences, but the technical support group in their community tab has a lot of questions that went ignored.

The Vibe: seems like a better, less toxic WattPad with more resources for writers and better payment options

The website is ugly and my brain is melting from doing all this research and there was a typo on the main page so I’m immediately writing this one off unless someone tells me how Booksie saved their dog’s life or something

Tappytoon

Apparently they don’t accept unsolicited stories/are not accepting submissions right now

Writing.com

It’s going to make me create an account to read anything and they trademarked “Where the Writers Go” so I’m also skipping this until further notice

And that is all I got so far. I personally decided to go with webnovel, Royal Road, Inkitt, and possibly Tapas now that I'm reading back over this list. I had initially written Tapas off for the 15k character limit thing, but I think I might be able to work with that.

I'd say this isn't how humans work, but then, "I can haz cheezburger" was a thing for *ages* so maybe it IS how humans work, just on a different scale. While we do see how Caitlin is effected by the brainwashing here, it just ... isn't in a spectrum that speaks to me? There's absolutely nothing I *dislike* here, just nothing that I find particularly to my personal erotica tastes. But if you're the sort to enjoy someone's opinion on a thing being changed by regular exposure to other people treating using one as just normal, of seeing snippets of a world that's changing by something "off-screen"? Give this one a go. 6/10 spirals.

If ever I needed evidence that Jukebox is not as big of a Rush fan as LadyR, this story sure provides it. (If you're dropping astrophysics/astronomy that 99% of your audience is just going to take as "ah, that's ... some sort of thing in space?" and you don't go for HDE 226868/Cygnus X-1, I can make the not-at-all shocking conclusion that you aren't a Rush fan). Off of the topic of me being both a bit of an astronomy nerd (though I did need to look up the binary system Jukebox named, I only just dabble really) and having an ever growing love of Rush, well. This story feels perfectly grounded in something that could have happened at any hypnocon I've been to. It's lovely and sweet and hot in all the right ways. Though now I want to send Eden to a class on bimbo play so she can both be reassured that plenty of smart, clever folk enjoy the temporary reprieve from *having* to be smart and also learn the language she needs to express what she wants to other potential partners. 9/10 spirals.

Even the Stars Fall 4 U

Another story with 4U, a heavily-brainwashed human. I still want to see how she got quite so thoroughly conditioned. And to learn more about these Masters. And just *everything* about this world. The constant narration of 4U, even as she talks about how perfectly she assumes a different role/persona is ... jarring, a little, though it *works* in the flow of the story. I just want more of the how and why. Especially in this story, where the conditioning of someone else is more a tag at the end than anything. 7/10 spirals.

Oh, this is an interesting one, and I'm left with more questions than answers about the Girls(tm), though I suppose that isnt' really the point of this story, though I'm sure the epilogue will have Implications. I ... am extremely put off by Ethan, by his posturing and aggression and just all of it - I've been on the receiving end of enough aggression from men who were just enough like Ethan, and have friends who have been hurt even *more* by men who reacted to discomfort with violence that I just ... I can't. I know what JB's going for here, and I"m sure it'll be cathartic for some folk, and just plain hot for others, but for me it just isn't. 3/10 spirals.

Ian, this is why I have a board game carrying backpack. Look into them, they're worth the investment. Also, Madison's place sounds like the house of a SCAdian Duchess I know... ANYWAY. I *love* the name Brian Shaw for a game company, A+ on cleverness there, Jukebox, and the game sounds like one that would be entertaining to throw together for a switch fight type game at a con sometime. And I appreciate Madison checking in before doing any sex-things, especially given we already had Ian's thoughts about caring so much about not being a creep making assumptions. it makes this all work, mostly, for all the consent could be better. I love the sense of how Ian's getting more and more caught by the game, too. 9/10 spirals

Oh hey, it's the hypnotic opal ring back! We get to see Piper and her unnamed Mistress from "Doesn't Really Matter" (and wasn't that rather a number of stories ago, it was posted almost 2 full years before this story was!) as they get inside an unsuspecting traveler's head. This one's in 2nd person narration, which is a little trippy given just how hypnotic opals are - there's a reason one of my partners gifted me an opal necklace for Christmas last year, the fire of it just catches the eye... *anyway.* If you're like me and have a pre-existing association with opals being hypnotic, the 2nd person narration may, um, have an Effect (tm). The step-by-step process here is fun to see, even if I tend to prefer less disjointed steps myself. "Some of it was things she knew even before he told her" is just such a good line, and the way she seems completely oblivious to the changes being induced before that line is so good. Even if Dylan is rather taking a lot of advantage. But having had those "I have to get this sewing done" nights, even if it wasn't for a grade, I wish I'd had someone to make my hands go on autopilot! (also between this story and Head Games, gosh, I'm getting the itch to do more sewing. Thanks, Jukebox, I think? :P I do have some linen waiting for me to get around to washing and ironing it...) 8/10 spirals

This is sweet in a slightly twisted way. Like, it completely goes against my view of the universe entirely, the idea that the universe could want to pair anyone like this, but still. Accepting that the world of Jukebox's superheroes and villains operates on a different logic than the world I know, sure, ok, I can work with it. The reality of a power cutting both ways is so good here, and I enjoy the reality of Ursula's instincts warring against Epiphany's mystical instincts. It's a lovely story, however Dilettante tries to warp things. 8/10 spirals.

Sneaky sneaky, Kevin. Poor Sandy, getting caught up in that, though hopefully it can be happy for her. And the fact that seh's woken herself up before helps me believe her subconscious will still keep her safe; that said, I have Opinions(tm) about suggestions to trust a hypnotist. Trust should be earned, not taken like that. Still, the suggestions otherwise are HOT, and the concept of the words spilling onto the page and into her mind is. um. *yes.* Also something I've done and very much enjoyed before. 9/10 spirals.

To confirm you're participating reply to this saying "I'm in", but please be as sure as possible bc no one should stay giftless

Both drawings and writings are valid gifts!

For it to be fair tho, an art piece should at least be lined + flat colored and writings should have a minimum of 5k words aprox (it's completely fine to go over this, but not required)

A server will be made for the event with a channel where y'all can write a little description of what you like so the person that got you can refer to that to get ideas (including your aus and/or fnaf characters if you have 'em, aus you like, your favorite DCA character, even tropes or dynamics, etc.)

Mermaid

Mermaid is a javascript based application that creates diagrams from code, like markdown, it is a quick and easy way of formatting information. It is used for so many things and is being updated at all times and is free and open source and to quote the website:

"Mermaid is for everyone"

It is possible to create, pie charts, flow charts, gantt charts, sequence diagrams, class diagrams, user journey diagram and much more in development. It is a very powerful and all round versatile thing to learn.

Mermaid in Notion

Learning and using mermaid in Notion is excellent because it is all built in to the app so there's nothing new to install or download.

When making a mermaid diagram in Notion, start by opening a code block and select in the top left hand corner to mermaid.

Tip: it is helpful to know what you want to make, of you are new to making diagrams with mermaid then I recommend drawing/planning it out first. Think about the direction, shape and colour.

The easiest one I can explain is a pie chart.

Start with the name of the type of chary you want to make and then giving it a title, add in data, the label in "speech marks" and the numerical data after the colon.

You should have something that looks like this:

pie title My Day

"time spent eating" : 12

"time spent sleeping" : 30

"time spent studying" : 25

"free time" : 10

Mermaid then does the rest itself, including working out the correct ratios. This is now live and can be easily changed and updated at any time.

Okay so I reblogged this somewhat uncritically at first I'll admit. I remembered that media is going to attempt to turn actors into people that we can turn against. Despite his... Previous behaviors I wanted to be 100% sure. So here is his comments from Instagram on what he said:

Now you can see here he is just saying striking is something he does not like and he expects to be present on the picket line.

HOWEVER

He has already crossed the picket line. As many are aware SAG-AFTRA has called for all union members to STOP promotion and events. This includes social media promotion. For his show, Heels, new season he did this:

So not only has he promoted the show on social media, and done so in a way that shows that he clearly knows what he is doing. BUT he also attended a convention which if you look it up was 100% AFTER the union call to cut event attendance for promotional events and panels such as SDCC etc. AKA something DIRECTLY in opposition to his union's strike requirements. If you check their website you can see it is one of the immediate things that is seen as a call to arms for striking actors.

EDIT & UPDATE FOR CLARIFICATION: It is NOT scabbing to attend conventions, particularly unofficial conventions such as Galaxy Con which he attended. His behavior at Galaxy Con where he was involved in the public promotion of the show Heels, which is a show produced by one of the studios subject to the strike, was an act of scabbing. I misunderstood the intent of what SAG-AFTRA has specified as guidelines for striking actors. Please be aware that ACTORS CAN ATTEND CONVENTIONS by SAG-AFTRA striking guidelines and I encourage everyone to follow the link at the bottom of this updated RB to review their guidelines fully as I did misunderstand it, and do not wish to be a part of misinformation in this process.

To attend this convention and sign autographs and do promotion for the show with his attendance is a CLEAR CUT violation of the union rules for the strike because of his promotion of the show. Full-stop right there, he's a Scab 100%. No "he maybe had to do it to survive!!" Or "He had to do it because contract!!" Nick Cage has a crippling dinosaur bone addiction and somehow managed to stay the picket line sooooo. Fuck Amell right there. Not to mention the people losing their homes and what not. He had a choice and he made it, scab right there. But I'll continue because it's kind of fun to rip him to shreds.

To promote his show on social media was to cross the picket line, to do so in this little "haha I'm not promoting it, it just happened to be there!" Bullshit way was a spit in the face of his union leadership and his fellow union members. ESPECIALLY combined with the fact that he promoted it at a convention with his attendance, and clearly in the timeframe of the strike.

You may be saying, "Maybe he's really dumb and thought this was okay!" In regards to his social media posts. Okay sure but at best he thought it was wrong because he purposefully went out of his way to misdirect what he was doing. But hey I'll give you that, maybe he's the most braindead guy ever.

Except for this:

He was fully aware. He was told. He was informed. He continued to make this decision. If he shows on a picket line I highly suspect he will not be welcomed as a studio exec would not be welcomed. I hope they fully rescind his union leadership. The replies to the tweet are him defending his actions, to which the other replies with the gif in which he becomes big cry baby Jane about.

This is also COMPLETELY ignoring the Jordan Peterson retweet where he is happily saying he must be offensive to "think" which is just.... Well a defense for the braindead thing I'll give you that. But the main message here is this:

Stephen Amell is 100% unmistakably and unapologetically a scab, and this is not just BS propaganda. May his union membership be revoked with prejudice.

When I first saw Technoblade's channel when he focused on Bedwars content back in.. probably 2017, he had 300k and I barely paid him any mind. Thought he was a stuck up, famous jerk. Years later with the boom of Minecraft returning, I'd never realized he was such a sweet, hilarious guy just going out there and making people happy.

When he got cancer, I told my friends to calm down- that he'd be fine; it was a tumor, something that could be removed. I was really just trying to reassure myself. I didn't want to lose the man that made me feel comfortable in my own skin being loud, slightly obnoxious and intensely ADHD. I'm still in shock, and as I drew this the reality that he's gone kept hitting me and I'd have to pause, hold back tears. Even now it still hasn't fully hit me yet.

I can't imagine what his close friends and family are going through right now. I'm not afraid to say I bawled my eyes out when I watched the actual update video, and I cried even harder when I heard his dad's voice crack. I can only wish him and his family a safe, calm grieving. And for everyone else, viewers and fans and artists and everyone, I repeat what my last post says:

Your grief for him is real. Your pain for him is real. Please do not snoop or act like you were buddy buddy, but other than that, please know you are allowed to grieve him. He was a beloved icon in this community, and he will always be remembered as a legend.

And just like legends do, in everyone's hearts and minds, Technoblade will never die. I love you guys, and he did too. Take care of yourselves.

Rest in peace, Technoblade.

This is a solid, clever induction. It's well paced, and I love the focus on the process. I would caution readers to be careful - it's written well enough that I could see it catching a reader up in the induction, if they're particularly visual or a skilled enough hypnotee. But having said that, I really enjoy the story. The framing is solid, and makes sense for the song title, and sets our intrepid reporter up for exactly this sort of thing. 9/10 spirals.

"Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely" - A British Lord (Acton? I think?) said this a long time ago, and this story really digs into that whole concept. It's an interesting premise, and I like the Professor's way of convincing the Devil to actually take the gift back - or to invert it, I suppose. It brings up rather a large number of philosophical quesitons, but now I also want to use this as a suggestion sometime for a particular partner. 8/10 spirals, and thanks for the inspiration, Jukebox!

*grins* Have I mentioned that vampires are one of my favourite tropes yet? Because they ARE. And this? The twisting, the command and domination and just all of it? It helps that I have a soft spot for Milwaukee, where this story is set, but even without that, the flavor of role play for magic domination, an induction I could let myself get lost in if I wanted, and relating to that whole "being too shy to approach a cute girl without adding in hypnosis/mind control" thing makes this an easy 10/10 spirals. (also, I totally stole inspiration to melt one of my girlfriends into a blissed out, Dominated puddle, which was DELIGHTFUL, so thanks, Jukebox!)

This is a fascinating setup! It'd be really cool to see an expansion on this world, as the metal spreads and people learn how to fight it. I find myself invested in Leigh, and cheering her on the whole way. And the logic in play, the conclusions drawn, and what's being ignored/forgotten all work together really well to drive this story on. It doesn't hit me as super erotic, outside the temptation Leigh deals with, the I love it all the same. 10/10 for world/plot/story, 2/10 for erotica; I'll give it overall 8/10 spirals.

Judy is clever, and handles no-verbal cues so well. Unethical AF, of course, but still. I appreciate the show of her skill, how she uses "you" in a clever way, the use of a hypnotized person as a focus just makes it even easier, because it's a convincer and seeing someone be hypnotized can nudge someone into hypnosis, or help anyway, just the technique here is solid. And the idea of having three brainwashed hypnoslaves... well, I have enough of a dominant side to see why that could be quite fun, yes - especially when Jukebox gives all the little signs of them falling into Judy's power and control. 9/10 spirals

Aww, this story is sweet, and for all there's a lot of sex within it, the way the sex is used for the purpose of brainwashing our POV character makes it work for me in a way it might not otherwise. There's such clear affection between these two, and the way he just melts for her and lets all her words control him in so many ways is absolutely delightful. This is the sort of story that feels just a bit fictionalized but could be (mostly) true in a way I really enjoy, too. 10/10 spirals.

On the one hand, this feels just sufficiently voyeuristic that I feel a bit ... something? reading it. On the other hand, it's *so sweet* and I can HEAR people I care about in James and - especially! - Thea. The sense of connection, of happy chance to meet for even just a little while, is also one I relate to, having had quite a lot of experience with long-distance relationships. And it makes the story so good for me, because gosh I *can* hear the reality of hypnokinksters doing it. That all said, I *do* hope Thea gave Amber a proper lecture on the etiquette of inserting oneself in another's scene and some basic safety around hypnokink. >.> 7/10 spirals.

This is another one of those Jukebox stories that don't really feel like erotic mind control stories as much as just *really solid* short stories. It hits me less as mind control and more (very) long term conditioning, which ok, fine, at some point the line between those two things is flimsy at best, but still. Having said that, the world in which this Xanadu exists is fascinating, and I'm intrigued by a lot of the questions posted by the existance of the magic air here. As a story, 10/10. As an *erotic mind control* story? 6/10 spirals.

Ok, secondary note after having properly listened to Rush's song Xanadu, from which I assume this story takes its name. Miriam really ought to have listened to Xanadu herself before she went searching for Xanadu - she might have thought better of it, had she sat with the song a while, seeing as how the song itself calls Xanadu a prison at the end. With the context of the Rush song? This jumps up to 8/10 spirals for me.

Oh, there's SO MUCH in this story I like. I'd somehow completely missed it in the past, and ... I kind of regret it, but I don't think I would have appreciated it the way I do now. The idea of a scent as a hypnotic focus is a newer thing for me, and the moment of teasing the concept adds to the "how exactly is this going to go?" moment in a way that wouldn't have stuck with me in years previous. The focus in play is all the better for being surprised by what it is, and that's easier to be surprised by when so many things are given as options. And the last part of the story - which I shan't spoil! - is absolutely delightful. 9/10 spirals

This STUNNING piece of work comes from the amazing @thepoisonofgod and I am SHOOKETH at the details of him!! What a scoundrel! He is totally up to no good!! That devilish smirk! That FUCKING HAND!! And is that his target tattoo I spy?? I can't even with those textures, from the leather on his hat and jacket to his shiny pants lol, and even my husband had to comment on how cute his eye crinkles are (which I wholeheartedly agree!!) Fuck I'm lost in the sauce on him just fuckin LOOK!

Xbox Series X Pro Controller Hex Blade Pro Controller Review

Hello everyone! Welcome back to Too Much Tech.

And in today's video, we're going to be reviewing

this controller that I have from Hex Gaming.

This is the Xbox version of this controller

and obviously will work with Xbox One, One X, Series S,

and Series S.

Why Microsoft name of that?

Not entirely sure.

I actually don't have the new consoles myself.

I have an Xbox Series X, but I primarily use this

on PC.

So what, that's what most of my experience is going

to be on.

Obviously, it's an Xbox One controller

like all the functions you know, what not worth the mic.

This whatever port that nobody ever really uses.

And it does have Micro USB,

just like a regular Xbox controller, because that's what

it's based on.

But, I do wish that Microsoft would like update

to USB Type-C. Sony did.

Sony did.

So, Microsoft, you're next.

But, not necessarily in regards to this controller,

because obviously they're just modifying the ones

that Microsoft has.

And this one I think is an incredible value

for what it is.

And it's really easy to use, other than like maybe

like swapping the panels and whatnot,

but we'll talk about that a little bit later.

So first up, let's go ahead and talk about

the unboxing experience. So, I think the box

actually looks really clean.

It's got a controller just so that you can easily take off

the thumbsticks, and then the two paddles,

or buttons I should say, that are on the back

of the controller.

The Hex Blade tactical gaming controller

for Xbox One and PC.

Designed for esports through Hex Gaming.

Blah, blah, blah.

I will leave Hex Gaming's link in description below,

because they did send this controller out to me

a couple...

No. Two, three months ago I want to say, in January.

And it's pretty clean.

They do give you a few different thumbsticks in the box,

so they give you a domed medium, a domed long,

a concave long, and a regular thumbstick.

And then, obviously you have the ones that come

on the controller. Two remappable buttons

on the back, and the trigger control mechanism

basically you have trigger stops.

So, really nice I would say.

The controller, the feel in the hand is pretty premium.

But let's check out this carrying case

that they give you as well, because this is not

a bad value at all.

So, you have a quick start guide right here,

which is just going to show you, you know,

how to use the controller and whatnot.

And then, on the back, obviously you know,

you have your rear button setup that we'll get

into in just a bit.

Actually, let's go ahead and talk about that right now.

It is also really nice as well that they give you

a six-month warranty for defects with the controller,

but if you have any issues, I would just hit them up

on social networks. And then you just have

like these little, little storage compartments

very similar to an Elite controller for your additional

thumbsticks and whatnot.

And taking off the thumbsticks is really easy.

You just pull it off, and then you just have

to line it back up to put it back on.

And that's it.

Super duper easy. Personally, I have been using

the two convex thumbsticks, the shorter ones.

I wish that there was a medium length thumbstick

that came in the box that was convex.

That would be perfect for aiming for me,

because this does feel a tad short.

But, otherwise, you know, I think it's fine.

And it is decently grippy as well. I would say it's a bit

more grippy than the thumbsticks that Microsoft uses

on their controllers.

Okay. Getting down to the controllers.

So, the controller obviously is extremely comfortable.

Some of the options that I selected myself,

because they did allow me to customize the controller myself.

I just went with the black back buttons,

and then this white back here,

the side grip I believe only comes in black

if you want this kind of texture.

But I think that it looks pretty cool.

And then, the best thing about this controller

is the different face plates that you can get.

Now, these you can't really, you know, swap them out.

You just got to pick it when you decide to get

your controller, but these face plates

are really cool and they do have themed controllers as well

that you can pick from, but I would just customize

my own personally.

I like this little swirl that they got going on.

I just think it looks really cool and very novel.

In terms of like the performance and whatnot.

You do have trigger stops here, so you do have

a full trigger press.

You switch that down and now you've got

a half trigger press, which I think is very useful

for shooters.

Three step trigger stops I don't really think

are fully necessary.

Two steps I think are fine. It's nice to just have it,

but if you did have one additional step,

what I found one some controllers that usually have

those multi-stage trigger stops sometimes it just comes off

and then it doesn't even...

It's not that it doesn't work,

but like if you hit it too hard, sometimes they just

get disengaged, so I feel like the one level of trigger stop

is fine.

Now, in terms of the batteries and whatnot,

you know, it's not rechargeable or at least I didn't opt

for the rechargeable battery pack.

This is more of an Xbox issue.

The battery life is just however long your AA batteries

are going to last.

So, performance wise, thet thumbsticks

are extremely smooth. I would say that these

are comparable to the PowerA controller

that I reviewed a while ago which, those I like quite a bit.

Those are extremely smoooth.

This is very similar.

Maybe...

If I have to quantify like 10% slower-ish.

But I mean, you know, controlling it wise,

is perfectly fine. I do think that these thumbsticks

are very good, very grippy as well.

D-pad it's just normal.

You know, it's just a regular D-pad

from an Xbox controller, just recolored.

But, it is fairly tactile. Controller does feature Bluetooth.

I usually just paly wired, but otherwise,

it's a very, very good and premium feeling

Elite style controller for the Xbox platform.

And this is also now probably going

to be my favorite controller to use as far

as having controllers on Windows.

Reason being, I just really enjoy the placement

of these back paddles here. Like this is just so easy

and natural to hit quickly.

And it doesn't really,

you know, take much effort to actuate it.

And there's no weird placement that your thumb has to

basically learn like you do with a Scuf.

Like having a Scuf, you got to kind of learn

like a weird placement to use these back paddles.

But, using this Hex Gaming controller,

it's very easy. Like it's very natural.

Nothing that you have to relearn.

Your hands just naturally rest right where

those buttons are.

And I feel like that's the most important thing.

If you're going to be using a Pro controller,

it should feel 100% natural to you.

So, if you're looking for the most natural feeling

Pro controller for the Xbox platform,

I will look no further than this.

And then, and also, this thing is extremely customizable.

Like I mean seriously, it's like insane.

So right now we are on Hex Gaming's website,

and you know, you can view all the available controllers

that they have.

But personally, I will go right to making my own.

But I mean, it looks like they got a sale going on

right now where some are between $35-ish to $45 off

which is very good.

I mean that's pretty insane.

And then, also they do have PlayStation controllers

available as well, but I believe these are

for PS4.

The case, honestly for me, looks a little strange,

so I don't really know if I would check out

a PlayStation controller from them.

And obviously, the PS4 controllers...

PS4 controllers are good and you can use them

on PS5. But more or less, you're only going

to be using it on PS4 games.

Like if the game is not PS4 compatible,

your controller doesn't work on PS5 which kind of sucks,

and I wish that Sony would change it,

but I'm pretty sure they aren't going to,

because obviously they want to sell their new controllers.

So, I hope that Hex Gaming is going to get

PlayStation PS5 controllers in soon

that are also just as customizable.

As we can see, they are indeed planning on it as well,

so for your PlayStation guys, be sure to stay tuned,

because I'm pretty sure they're going to be coming out

with something and I will probably

review it when it comes.

But back to the topic at hand, the Blade controller

so you can make your own. We're going to click that.

And I mean look at just how many face plates there are.

Is this...

I don't think that's the one that I picked.

Let's see here.

I got this origin of chaos.

This one looks so clean to me. I absolutely knew

that I had to have it when I seen it.

I mean you got a blood splatter.

Weeds. You know, if that's your thing.

Like you know, whatever, dude.

Oh, they got a couple of them. There are a couple of it.

If you're a cannabis enthusiast, you know,

they got you covered.

And they got chrome.

Chrome cy... That's kind of clean. That chrome cyan,

chrome silver.

Okay. You know. Just depends on what you're into.

Clear. Even if, you know, if you're after the Game Boy

retro vibes.

Well, they got this...

What is this? Like a translucent, where it's not exactly

as transparent. That's kind of clean.

D-pad, they got a ton of different options.

I believe I went for the matte white.

And then, they got some chrome options as well.

ABXY, you know. They just have a ton

of different options in all the different categories.

Different base colors and whatnot for your thumbsticks.

RB buttons you can change as well. You can get a little wild

with them.

Even the buttons on the back, you can also change

the color of these two. So I mean,

It's pretty cool. I think that, you know,

by the time you get one of these all the way out,

you know, you get up to about that $200 price point.

I think it's a pretty fair deal. I mean, right now,

I mean this controller looks pretty insane.

And we haven't like added anything functionally

to the controller, you know. We could have went

with the barebones controller for $140 which is pretty nuts.

But, you know, once we start to customize it,

add on a few of those things, it's only like, you know,

$40, maybe $50 max if you're really pushing it,

but I don't even think it'll let me go that high.

I mean it really only added like an extra like $35.

And we had a pretty fully kitted custom controller.

Hex Gaming...

I don't know guys. That's a really good deal.

You know, Scuf is very easy to go.

$200 plus.

I think that this is a very good and fair price

for, at least an Xbox controller. I'm curious

what the price is going to be

on the PlayStation 5 controller.

So, you know, I'm pretty sure it's going to be a bit more.

If it's similarly priced to this,

I would say it's incredibly fair.

Even topping out at about $200.

I think that's pretty decent.

You know, spending $200 on the controller,

especially like after I'm kind of past the whole

controller phase at the moment,

it's just a little, it's just a little much for me.

$150, $170 is quite a lot.

But at the same time, you got the Elite 2 controller

which is pricey as heck, but this is a lot

more customizable.

So, I don't know. I don't know.

But for now, this controller is definitely my favorite.
