Kids also don’t have a huge amount of experience in anything, and it’s a parent’s job to teach them. This sounds incredibly obvious, doesn’t it?
Before a family Christmas celebration, when all five of us happened to be lounging around together, I announced we were playing PRESENT PRACTICE. I wrapped a toy frying pan in a muslin cloth and handed it to a child, who unwrapped it and mimed amazement. The older children and their father were all awarded points for their simulated appreciation and the baby got points just for learning to unwrap something. On the second pass we all leveled up to making a grateful comment in reaction to the particular gift, such as “this will go in my collection of frying pans” and “now I can cook one very small egg.”
For the six year old, I very seriously presented the important and tricky case study of unwrapping a large exciting box to find a single pair of socks. The child suggested a reaction of “this is great, how surprising! But,” their face changing to seriousness and the tone of giving the giftee useful feedback for the future, “I’m not very interested in socks.” They explained the utility of passing on this feedback. So, this being present practice, I received this reaction with the grace and thoughtful attention of an award-winning director, and we discussed how we would leave that part out for our more sensitive audiences.
The children also traditionally give small cheap or handmade presents to their family members. Each parent takes each child secretly in hand to prepare a present for the other parent. The six-year-old also has access to the PTA school shop, where the PTA purchase small shitty items (scented candles, bars of soap, cheap socks) and sell them to the schoolkids for £1.50 each, and wrap them on the spot. The 6-year-old carefully squeezes the value from the £10 we give them for this purpose, and squirrels away their mysterious bag of wrapped gifts like it’s a state secret. The three year old is given “pocket money,” and taken shopping. There is now emotional investment in giving; we whisper together quietly about how much people will like the gift. The three year old frequently whispers hotly into my ear about the item they chose for their grandmother (a tissue cover, lmao). The children, therefore, watch adults carefully when their own offerings are unwrapped and admired. When they see us reacting with amazement and gratitude to their gifts, it maps that pathway and lights it up. It also teaches pretty early on that giving is actually supposed to be rewarding, and is a more reliable source of cheer - as you can always control the feeling giving, while getting is tiresomely at the whim of an external giver, isn’t it? And it reinforces that a certain degree of social performance is expected.
Present Practice is a fun game to play so the kids do it to each other. It’s a funny trick to play on a parent, too. You can hand a parent something hilarious, like a potato wrapped in toilet paper, and see them try to do a Level 3 reception on it (“this will be my favorite ever potato,” I say mistily, “how did you guess what was in my heart?”)
For high-pressure present-opening situations, you can just sit back and watch, really. Even when I had to let them open USA-grandparent Christmas presents over Zoom AT the house of the British Grandparents. The children spontaneously decided to receive presents in the guise of angels. I was giving the kids wild thumbsups from behind the camera as they warmly enthused over the sentiments in the cards before even looking at the gift.
Does it sound artificial? Well, they have fun, and they’re kind, and they love giving and receiving. They’re nice and well behaved - and people love to give them presents. It’s all social performance! and you’re expecting super high-level software to run on Kid Hardware, which is like trying to program Plant Pathology 101 onto a border collie! Kind of an unfair expectation on the framework, mate!
I’d suggest the first port of call is literally - teaching kids how to get presents.
"Look at this video of a child disappointed at their expensive gift! Children are so spoiled these days!"
That's cool. So, why did their parents upload their small child being upset online? In a public video, shared to the entire video? Why did they even save the recording?
Like. The kid in that scenario could be saying the most entitled nonsense in the world, and if their parents post it online to be publicly shamed, I'd still support the kid 100%. Thinking your child's life is a toy to exploit freely for #content is "spoiled"; when faced with mommy vlogers, kids should be demanding three PS5s and a new Bugatti, and we should be applauding them for it
#if it isn’t incredibly obvious I condemn the parents in OP’s post for so many reasons#but I think the most damning thing is not teaching a behavior and then being like OOOOOoooOOOWHOAAAAAAAAAA where did this behavior come fro#while filming it.#that is not just stupid and cruel - which it is - but active ongoing proof of failing at the fundamental job.#people are often stupid and cruel#as well as ignorant and accidentally harmful#and as a society we don’t necessarily feel that should stop you from being a parent#until it harms the child#well#this kind of thing that OP describes has another layer to me#and that’s the one where they’ve just failed the work.#sure so they’re not very nice or good people in one moment on the internet - ok whatever I’m not a cop#but fundamentally failing at the framework of the job though?#that doesn’t come from nowhere#and is harder to misconstrue or scramble the context.#that really does come back to not teaching a child and then being mad because they aren’t taught.#I tried to be more positive in the post though.#sorry OP if it sounded too positive strangeness#your sixpenceeee comment is very funny

being obsessed with yakumo is a job and baby i’ve never called in a sick day!!!!!
#nu carnival#yakumo ♡#you could not pay me to ramble this extensively about anything else#but yakumo’s trauma?? his childhood?? his growth?? his fears and insecurities and how they affect his current relationships??#his abandonment issues and jealousy and darker desires???#and how he’s so scared he’ll hurt others even though it’s far more likely he’ll be the one getting hurt??#how he’s not violent or scary at all but after years and years he’s been conditioned to think he is??#the significance of his relationship with eiden??#the significance of his ‘platonic’ relationships with the other clan members??#how important his grandparents were in raising him??#how his desperate want to hide his serpentine features and be ‘normal’ is a perfect allegory for autism??#the fact that he’s been treated horribly in the past and yet still chooses every day to be kind??#how he probably definitely has bpd??#the burden he has to carry just because of who his ancestor is??#the fact that it almost seems like what he does doesn’t matter because the actions of his ancestor will always be looming over him??#how he’s been hurt so many times both physically and emotionally and yet his heart is still so open to loving others??#how he has a tendency to push down his traumatic memories until he thinks they no longer affect him??#and how even when he’s suffering because of that trauma he would still rather suffer alone than bother someone and tell them??#how slowly but surely he’s unlearning all of the harmful ideas burned into him since his was a child??#and how he’s learning that people do love and care about him and he’s not a burden and he deserves love and care??#and that the serpentine traits he tries so desperately to hide aren’t as disgusting as he was meant to believe??#that his dark desires don’t define or control him and that it’s okay that he has them??#that just because he has them at all doesn’t make him a bad person???#why he makes soup for his loved ones so much!!!! yes that is important actually#i will sit and write about that for hours and hours for FREE#my favourite fictional character of all time he’s so so real#he’s so well written and his trauma and growth are handled with such care and consideration

Endeavor is almost a perfect allegory for what the society in the mha universe does to people who can't be heroes or use their quirks in a way to benefit society, which is cast them aside or pass them over without over giving them a second glance until uh-oh! Suddenly they're worth being noticed because they're a threat.
He apologizes to his family, which is good! If you're a bad person and did terrible things, the first step in your own transformation and atonement should be to acknowledge what you've done and to apologize to those you've wronged. Great!
Thing is, Endeavor set off a chain reaction with his abusive, neglectful and downright irresponsible choices that it damaged everyone in his family for life.
I don't think someone who causes one of their own children to literally go up in flames, crying because they're finally getting attention from their father and family in the very end, ever deserves to be forgiven.
#mha#my hero academia#endevour#mha dabi#mha endeavor#im sure im gonna get some flack for this because for some reason lots of people think that he should be redeemed but no???#im sorry guys i like villain redemption arcs as much as the next person and i understand being confused over#why so many people forgive other villains vs endeavor#but theres something about being in a place of power and influence and using that to harm and neglect your family and having EVERYONE#EVERYONE IN THE WHOLE WORLD PRETTY MUCH JUST LOOK AWAY AND SAY OH ITS NOT MY FAMILY THATS HIS BUISNESS#BETTER NOT GET INVOLVED IT'LL SORT ITSELF OUT#that just doesnt sit right with me whatsoever#ive liked plenty of villains who do horrible things but i can still see their good side because they have their henchman or their own family#or that one person who they care for and will protect because thats their heart#im saying that even though endeavor FEELS BAD he really just didnt have a heart or care for anyone but himself until hmm#oh! after he became the number one hero#and after he got a scar that humbled him#theres a reddit post where the op talks about how people soften him and are willing to forgive him but i think thats coming from people who#very very thankfully no shade did jot have to deal with anyone like that irl in any way#OR people who are less into stories and allegories again no shade and take characters at a more surface level#its just another read on the character which of course is obviously fine but please please understand why people will never forgive him#mha spoilers#its like especially hard to not hate him when you find out that dabi had his mothers power all along#meaning he WAS that perfect child that endeavor had been looking for but he cast him aside too soon to even let that power bloom early on#god i hate Endeavor so much#love the way hes written story and character wise like he IS really well written#but fuck him all the same lol

the way this fandom treats characters is astounding. like y’all do realize that every single character is shitty, right? literally every last one. your blorbo is not an exception. no, “but my fave—” no exceptions. literally the only character that i can’t think of any issues with off the top of my head is farah.
#call of duty#cod#obviously some characters are worse than others#i think we can all hold hands and agree that makarov takes the ‘most evil character’ cake#and lots of people acknowledge graves’ actions#and i’ve even seen people bring up valeria’s actions#but the way y’all (general) just. pick and choose who to criticize#it’s important to acknowledge and discuss the flaws these characters have#and i think it’s important to allow people to explore problematic characters#but if you’re gonna do that— acknowledge EVERYONE’S flaws#price nikolai and gaz literally kidnapped a civilian woman and child. used them as ‘bargaining chips’. held a gun to a little boy’s head#soap & ghost may not have any highlights (that i can recall) but they’re SAS.#the military– especially the specops– are not known for being above board and clean#price’s catchphrase is literally ‘we get dirty world stays clean’#this cast is full of fuckin war criminals. they’re ALL shitty.#obviously some are worse than others (motioning to makarov valeria & graves)#but acting like the ‘good’ characters are unproblematic is harmful imo. there are real people that have been victimized by the military#–including the SAS. your blorbos are in an organization that devastates entire countries with war#i guess i’m sick of seeing people’s obvious favoritism in this fandom.#y’all (general) love to discuss shitty behavior and read-world equivalents until it involves your faves#and i’m not saying this to tell people to stop writing for everyone. i personally dislike the ‘don’t write for problematic charas’ mindset#but hold every single character to that standard for the love of god#and ‼️be mindful while writing/discussing potentially harmful stuff‼️#be sensitive to the groups that might be seeing this. remember that COD is a war game that romanticizes the military and war#with the sole intent of getting people to join#no one is perfect. they’re ALL shitty people. some are worse than others– but they ALL represent real-world issues#the ‘only enjoy unflawed characters’ mindset links back to purity culture and media literacy dying#seeing people expect an imperfect media to have a perfect fandom is draining#the community needs to be a safe space for everyone. but groups will inevitably clash and that’s why we have the block button and filtering#just like. don’t disrespect people. be mindful with your work. but also— BE LIBERAL with catering your fandom space!

thalia is so growing on me i love my rich woman who has Problems.. i gave her ice powers for like. the elsa vibes.
#but im like damn... gale...karlach....stay away from her... or else ur gonna explode in the end....#really a coin toss between those two and im gonna be sad at the end but that's the thalia experience 😭😭#also i dont think she's gonna save the tieflings... not bc she's evil but she generally doesn't care... and curing the tadpole is her utmos#priority. like she's already stressed with her chaotic magic killing her if she loses 50/50 now you have to add brain worms on top of that?#funny that shri'iia does more heroic deeds and she's like. the evil aligned chara#but thalia is generally very cold in a sense that she's always looking at the bigger picture and she's willing to sacrifice/disregard#who gets caught in the crossfire.. like that's just another responsibility she has to bear for Her. and she's very the type to sacrifice he#own happiness for her Duty vibe. like i think she's just learned how to be content with whatever she's left with.#also she's her father's heir bc she's the only child to her father's First Wife. and thalia get step siblings along the way but i think tha#grief of losing her mother / becoming an adult/handling adult affairs quickly made her jaded on a lot of stuff#and she feels like it's her responsibility to lead her noble house to higher pastures so her step siblings can live freely#like she's just taking all the work to herself - as the Heir. and that's what she was doing UNTIL she gets the wild magic#now suddenly she feels like she's cursed. and the fact that it's chaotic by nature and so dangerous..!! she can't stay in court or at home#over the fear of harming someone. and she's learnt that to get rid of a problem you always have to go to the root of it#hence why she's travelling around finding more info and source of the wild magic in hopes to cure herself from it#and she kind of put her life on Pause bc she believes she can't get anywhere with this curse. but its like gworl u put ur life on pause lon#before that.. anyway her end goal is that once she cures herself and she's normal again she'll prob marry some other old money heir#set up trusts for her siblings and live a quiet life. but that wont happen obvi hehe#also one of the siblings' name is melpomene... being named from the goddess of comedy thalia is kinda boring lol#essentially her story is like. she learns how to have fun. essentially. depending on how i rp her idk yet actually

Drawing Five according to his canonical UaO epilogue description is so messy and saddening because there's so much to account for that got him physically fucked up and you know the writers were hammering in this whole disfigurement as punishment thing with him
Because first you have the eye hole where Marina pierced him, and I'm not sure if he's still wearing that gauze eye patch on the island because eventually it'll get dirty and he'll have to toss it
Then you have the scar marks from when Setrákus Ra clawed right through his metal skin "like butter" and it's not mentioned whether those marks are still there or they disappeared when he returned to his flesh skin (and it's doubtful those were healed at all, we don't even know if Marina had a proper visit and talked to him and possibly healed those away)
Then you have the goop that created some patchy spots all over his skin and show up all web-like on him
And then how it's implied he starved on the island because he lost weight so fast and is described to have flaps of skin on his arms and torso and a body so skinny you could see an outline of his ribs and spine
Bro he has so much physical trauma on him, like they did the most on him and left it like that till the very end
#number five#not sure whether to put the main ll tag on this#don't wanna put it out there to see but a friend hasn't read ll yet and blocked the main tag for now#well i already told em about five so i think this is fine#hmmm rereading the epilogue and i wanna write an analysis on the justifications of harm without closure#on everyone toward five but especially marina#because she had the most personal reason to hate five but she never got any closure or chose to move on#and it left her character arc hanging because she never found a conclusion to her moral dilemma#how to handle five and what do with her grief if it's painful and no one can relate to her on an empathetic level#because she was the 'moral compass' yet flet that title fleeting her sometimes and didn't know how to process these changes#and then john literally whisked her away from that instead of helping or letting her find a conclusion#and we never hear from her again until the very end of the series without any answers#she was literally the only other person to question these moral changes and aspects and the writers took that from us#similarly to five and his questioning of lorien treating the garde and their lack of will or identity beyond child soldiers#both had the questions but no one heard an answer#if that's intended by the writers I don't buy it because those are really cruicial to the themes of the series and it sucks to leave it out#they just punished and humiliated and disfigured five again and again and again to an excessive degree#dude what that's a lot to throw on him

Most people would figure Kaeya to be a pretty crier, but in reality that’s either bc 1) He’s using crocodile tears to get what he wants or 2) he’s cut himself off before he ACTUALLY starts crying
#☆ ┆ ( .ooc. );#//I love the idea of Kae being an ugly crier; complete with big ol Ghibli years and all bc of how WELL it fits with his vulnerability#//It being such a side he HATES showing of himself; one more thing he tries to hide#//That when it finally DOES come to light; he’d practically laid bare before the other person#//Every heartbreak; every fear; every insecurity and guilt he feels; bared for the other to see#//Hed much rather they kill him in that moment than comfort him; it is just TERRIFYING#//Painful; terrifying; and all in the worst ways to him; from how hard he’s tried to keep himself so closed off#//Ofc the person he most trusts to see him like this is Adelinde#//She was the one who saw him cry the most as a child; even if a few numbered times#//But he truly feels SAFE with her; even if nowadays; he’s scared she’ll use the time to comfort him to make him come back#//Bc she KNOWS how much he misses that place; remnants of the home Crepus gave him; the fam he’d had#//In a way; he also knows he WOULD be better off coming back to them#//But then he thinks of his purpose in Mond; thinks of his fight with Diluc; and thinks ‘Not yet’#//‘Not yet’; until he can safely say he’s made his amends and ensured he will NEVER bring harm upon then; fated role or not

i feel like something people don’t understand is that mayor holiday could easily be a generally bad and unlikable person while also holding nuance—this isn’t to say she won’t have any redeeming traits, but a character has the ability to be nuanced and 3 dimensional while simultaneously just… being generally unlikable and/or a bad person. example: azula, from avatar—personally i like her a lot as a character but does that mean i think she’s a good person or someone i’d like to meet? no. same with akito from fruits basket
she can also be sympathetic while… being generally unlikable! it’s possible! she can be abusive and cold and rude and also well written with explanations behind her actions and believable psychology. i trust toby fox to make a character like that, or even better! read tags for more rant
#also you can have the best intentions and end up abusing your child#that’s honestly my theory. mayor holiday is stressed and hurting so she becomes overbearing and difficult on her child to the point of long#-lasting harm#and that doesn’t mean she’ll be granted redemption. mothers like that often get softer as time goes on but this is usually a result of a#stubborn character and therefore change barely makes a dent in the relationship until years later#i’m the youngest child of my mother and i’ve gotten the best side of her#but i know it took her a long time to improve and she still makes big mistakes all the time#with me and my sisters#of whom got the worst side of her#i love her dearly but i recognize she’s not the best person ever and she’s made huge mistakes in the past#so yeah. mayor holiday may not get redemption in the 7 days of deltarune#but it doesn’t mean she’s 1d and her only traits are mean cold woman#deltarune#undertale#utdr#mayor holiday#rudy holiday#rudolph holiday#noelle holiday#deltarune noelle#noelle deltarune#deltarune theory#also i feel like saying she might be a straight up bad irredeemable person isn’t saying she’s evil or 1d#toby fox obviously doesn’t make characters like that lol#as a child honestly it doesn’t matter the intentions#your parent even YELLING at you repeatedly can be terrifying#god sorry i just wanna talk a lot abt how it’s so easy to unintentionally abuse ur child but#i’d just say the same things over and over again

I'm very tired of ppl being like "oh x isn't an elder sibling if they didn't take care of the younger siblings" glad yall had younger siblings who liked you. mine told me to kill myself and was used as a pawn in my dad's abuse of me
#i think a lot of ppl are unwilling to talk about situations where the younger sibling is used as a tool to abuse the older sibling#bc often the eldest is made to feel that its their fault or that theyre the 'real' problem#see: my dad gaslighting me until the only method of communication i had was to throw shit and then blaming me. A Child when my sister#was inevitably in the crossfire#my dad choking me out for making a normal childhood mistake and then telling my sister the story as if i intentionally harmed her#AND LEAVING OUT THE PART WHERE HE CHOKED A 5 YEAR OLD.#the eldest daughter whos the bad guy in all the stories bc they learned the only way to survive was to hit back#and the youngest daughter who never saw her fathers violence but only the consequences#🖤.txt#the improvement in my sister and i's relationship is she now just infantalizes the shit out of me

I have to say, as a disabled person, Prince of Heroes makes me emotional with how much you nail the disabled allegory with Quirkless Izuku / Izuku wanting to be a Quirkless hero.
also I loved when izuku told gran torino the point isn't to cause harm .
thank you so much for saying so. i first started writing fanfiction for this fandom because this show had such potential as a disability metaphor that just wasn't realized. when bnha became my special interest i had recently come out of the hospital and was facing down the reality of not being able to work, possibly not ever, which would mean i had to move back home and leave the life i tried to make for myself in grad school. i needed a story about a disabled character who succeeds, not despite his disability, but despite everyone telling him he could never amount to anything. bnha promised to be that story in episode one, and stole it away again in episode three. i was heartbroken, and turning to the fandom for stories where izuku stayed quirkless, i was met with nothing but stories about how he had to lower his expectations in order to be more realistic.
i wrote "heroics and other things that don't require superpowers" because i needed a story where a disabled character receives support and care for the first time, and is finally able to achieve his dreams.
i wrote "prince of heroes" because i needed a story where a disabled character achieves his dreams despite receiving no support or care from authority figures, but only from his friends.
as for what i'll write when i'm done with "prince of heroes"? well, i guess we'll see what i need then.
#also yes izuku telling gran the point isn't to cause harm is an entire mood#this show is so dystopian#someone please tell this old man to stop beating up a child#you don't teach someone to fight by hitting them until they hit back#that's such bad pedagogy please never interact with a child ever#prince of heroes#bnha

One of the most gut punching things that has happened in 2023 so far is my childhood best friend of maybe 15+years who knows very well that I self-harm coming to me for advice how to deal with it for some random girl, despite never asking how to help me
#the way my body suddenly became cold when I read the text and realized they really don't give a fuck about me#and I feel bad for feeling anything negative towards the girl#especially since she's a minor#but my 'friend' still refuses to tell the girls parents because 'she can't break her trust🥺'#tf the girl is a child! and she needs a professional care! tell her parents so they can provide it#that shit won't go away on its own#anyway i relapsed 3 times in the last 3 days ✌😘#at least im not breaking skin this time instead i hit myself until i bruise which is quite the feat since i don't bruise easily#the named the big bruise on my arm 'bruce the bruise'#i think it's hilarious#but overall idk how i feel about hitting myself bacause it doesn't take the itch away completely like cutting or scratching#but it's way easier to hide it and if discovered to lie about it which is big plus and it goes away after few days#which is both a blessing and a curse#tw self harm#vent

Hey remember that time Tim Burton said that he doesn't include Black characters as leads because it would be too "politically correct"? They just don't fit his "vision", guys! Unless they're villains. Obviously. 🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮 /s (Apparently, this is the case so far in the Wednesday show.)
So yeah. This movie here by Jordan "one of the best filmmakers alive" Peele and Henry "the guy who actually directed Nightmare Before Christmas" Selleck being one of the best animated movies to come out in years is so awesome on so many levels:
Kat as a Black alt girl - fuck anyone who says they don't exist! Of course they do! and they're punk as hell! In fact, this specific scene highlights exactly how fucking punk she is: It has been firmly established that HER REBELLION HAS REAL AND SEVERE POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES beyond just dirty looks from preppy kids. If she is expelled, she goes back to prison. This child arrives at school in chains. And she STILL does this within minutes of arriving because she has a strength of identity that she won't let anyone take away from her. WHAT COULD BE MORE PUNK THAN THAT????
Genuinely anti-fascist messaging (Disney would NEVER) and a direct commentary on the prison industrial complex (hey, Tim! have your films had anything important to say, like... ever? Just checking, cause I know you got that incurable progressive mediocrity disease. 😭 Poor bb.)
Excellent comedy! (It's Key and Peele, baby!)
James Hong is there and he is great.
Wonderful and dynamic character/set design!
An interpretation of healing from trauma that was so beautiful I wept.
An extremely sexy giant demon DILF lord!
Original songs!
A FAT FEMALE CHARACTER WHO IS A COOL BADASS WHILE REPRESENTING SUPPORT BETWEEN GENERATIONS OF BLACK WOMEN??? WHAT?!!?!! YES!!!!!!! (hey real quick, everyone! Name the first 10 badass fat female characters that come to your mind! Oh what's that? It's taking you a while to think of even 5???? SO WEIRD. Okay then just name a couple fat Tim Burton characters who aren't villains. Oh?? THERE'S LITERALLY NONE??? HOW FUCKIN' STRANGE)
And let's not forget, THE FIRST TRANS BOY I HAVE EVER SEEN IN A MOVIE!!!! RAUL IS A MAIN CHARACTER WITH A TON OF SCREENTIME AND HIS AGENCY IS INTEGRAL TO THE PLOT!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 he's perfect and his Hispanic heritage is not only much-needed representation, but it is also relevant to the beautiful artwork he makes in the style of pre-colonial Latin American religious imagery!
Raul's art stands in direct contrast to the grim cold aesthetic of the Catholic Church. (Disney would NEVER) Which IS in other movies I've seen.... so long as the non-Christian imagery represents an ancient evil that highlights the nobility and necessity of the Church for crushing Pagan religions. This is the FIRST TIME I've ever seen an inversion of that trope and it RULES.
Anyway this movie is so good and everyone needs to know about it.
Wendell & Wild (2022)
Bad things happen to people I’m close to... They die.
#original#wendall and wild#kat wendell and wild#raul wendell and wild#sister helley#i was afraid the only disabled character was gonna be a bad guy but even he gets a shot at redemption#so cool#to be clear i am white and if i have accidentally said something hurtful i would really like to know so i can do better#i just care a lot about one of the only thematically coherent animated films I've seen in years#like all i can think of is.... klaus (also conspicuously white tbh) and... spider-verse (no notes; that movie rules) and....#i cannot think of anything else dear gods. i guess Turning Red. maybe Encanto even tho it is conspicuously straight#raul just being there made me very nearly cry from happiness as a Transmasc. i also went to a catholic school. didn't like it.#so i can only listen to POC and try to imagine the anger and grief they feel at their erasure and the joy of their inclusion.#and folks seemed to really like this movie! which is amazing! how about a few thousand more? to start.#my three favorite things on this earth are my wife my dog and a clever and meaningful inversion of a harmful trope.#I live for taking a shitty thing in storytelling and turning it around and making it better than anything it ever has been before#prison bars torn away and twisted into sculptures and all that#i didn't even realize sister helley was fat until a few days later bc it is irrelevant to the plot and never brought up. and i was like#omg how did i miss that! non-joke fat characters mean everything to me! sister helley is awesome.#legit if i had seen this movie as a child i think it would have permanently changed something in me. in a good way.#i didn't start questioning racism in america until I was an adult. this movie would have had me asking questions so much earlier.#we need movies like this. we NEED them. no room for 'subtlety.' these stories must be told.#AND ONE MORE THING: I own those boots! Same boots!! Got them some years ago. Kat has great taste.

Do u think Theon has a gambling addiction
#Asking my fandom of two people here ^^; Can’t wait for communities so we can have forum discussions on my head children~#just pav things#I was studying the psychology of gambling today. Watched a documentary on the losses to pokie machines in australia#Apparently the dopamine receptors are most active when you are playing and only marginally increase when you win#So you know Theon. who is actively trying to relieve his emotional pain and is bored of life#would be drawn to the addictive nature of gambling and just… playing the game#in his mind he knows he always has his intuition powers as a safety net to recuperate losses#which only makes the allure of playing properly greater :)#So he keeps getting that rush of morphine-like ‘happiness’ in him that motivates him to keep going#and he’s a child. you can imagine the engrossment.#It’s not about earning to live it’s about living to earn. that’s all he can see himself doing anyway#Anyways I think this is an interesting minor alteration for several reasons#It makes the parallels to Inigo stronger for one!!!!!!#Similarly Inigo also abuses addictive substances illegally (cigarettes~)#But the difference is drawn in that while Theon is entrapped in a predatory system that ultimately couldn’t care less about him#Inigo is very much leaning into his own self-destruction. He knows what he’s doing and it’s the reason why he does it. It’s self-harm.#Somehow getting cancer is more appealing than knife wounds but y’know it’s in the spirit of Inigo to overcomplicate things#especially considering. he has a pocket knife. the easy option is RIGHT there. you all can munch on that for a bit.#And the second point is the shameeeeeee#That’s what his spiriter form is built off of :3#You KNOW he carries around so much shame for his lifestyle once he gets assimilated into Archie’s squad#Comparing himself to Luna and Ewan who are just two kids trying their best and don’t know any better when they mess up#And Theon holding himself to the standard that he SHOULD know better because hey he’s older and more mature#And so on the numerous occasions Ewan questions and assails Theon’s behaviour (and there are many)#He only feels WORSE until his feelings reach that point of no return :)#Shame :)

And antis wonder why we’re constantly shouting about censorship and freedom of expression and how it *always* targets minorities and queer folk first.
"I've read much spicier things on Ao3" is a common thing I hear about my work, and my polite response is usually, "That's because Ao3 is non-profit and heavily anti-censorship, and authors won't lose their source of income for writing about fucked up gay tentacle porn in the Algorithm finds them." (or if someone reports them. Because yeah, that's a thing people do too. The snitches.)
The annoying thing is you'll find heterosexual erotica in abundance on Amazon. Hell, you'll find it in the Romance genre.
But if you're writing sweet queer media? Fuck you, better hope the person doing approvals that day isn't a cunting homophobe.
And it's not just the Zon doing this. It's all of them.
We're in the bad place.
#anti censorship#important#until ao3#the only place i could post i/e was my own blog#it hardly has any sex but the other content alone is forbidden almost everywhere#child abuse - not allowed#self harm - not allowed#exploring suicide or the dark side of mental illness? not allowed#i could keep going
