I don't normally draw stuff like this because it doesn't occur to me to want to do so. This came about because I've always had a very deep fascination with the number 88 and its place in Chinese beliefs. But 88 being used as a hate symbol in neonazi circles has always bothered me immensely, and I often feared my association with the number might cause others to think i'm a nazi.

i'm not scared anymore. i'm fucking chinese. 88 means fortune and good luck. no hatred is going to take that meaning away from us. 88 forever, fuck your hate speech, fuck your hate symbols, double happiness forever.

The Summit County Home in Tallmadge, Ohio, was a hospital, and a home for the elderly, the mentally ill, and the poor. It was open between 1919 and 1970 and was eventually demolished around 1980. The inhabitants who died there were buried in the County Home Cemetery. Scanty records suggest were buried there between 1916 and 1952. Although the graves were originally marked, a 1981 fire destroyed the burial records. In 2007, the Summit Metro Parks acquired the cemetery in 2007, and it's now accessible from Meadow Trail of Munroe Falls Metro Park.

Other two legible gravestones, most of the graves are completely unmarked. The clearing in second photograph was burial for hundreds. One stone commemorates the remains of over 900.

- S B Ray; Company K, 2nd Arkansas Infantry 📯🇸🇴 - There is very little info on the man shown here; S B Ray. All that I have been able to find out about him is that he was born in either 1831/1832 and by the beginning of the war he was living in or around Memphis, Tennessee. He enlisted on June 18, 1861 at the age of 29 with Company K, 2nd Arkansas Infantry at Memphis. The 2nd, originally organized at Helena, Arkansas, arrived in Memphis to be mustered into Confederate service. The 2nd left Memphis in late July and headed for Camp Hardee back in Arkansas. On the journey to their first post, Ray became sick. Once he recovered, he fought at Rowlett’s Station, Shiloh, the Corinth Campaign, Richmond (Kentucky), and Perryville. It is assumed that Ray was either killed, seriously wounded, went missing, or captured (though there are no records of this) at the Battle of Perryville on October 8, 1862. The only thing his records indicate was that he died in Kentucky in October 1862. His body was never found. Many believe he is buried somewhere on the Perryville battlefield. There are no memorial gravestones placed for him, or at least none that are documented. - On June 18, 1861, S.B. Ray sat down at a local Memphis photographer to have a tintype portrait made. This image was to be a gift to his lover. Two notes were attached to the cased image Presented To Miss. V.E. Gillenwaters, By her Lover, S.B. Ray, June 18th, 1861. Keep this as a tribute of respect. Your True Friend, S.B.R. “My heart when I’m tempted to wander, replies, here my first love - last love - my only love lies." - - I have been unable to find any SB Ray or VE Gillenwaters on any records. Finally found the #HandselSisters tree(s) in #GrovelyWoods 😬😬😬👻👻👻. 4 sisters from #Denmark were murdered as #Witches without trial in #Wilton in #1737 - their arrival coinciding with an outbreak of smallpox which killed 132 local people. 4 mysterious #BeechTrees grew over their final resting places and people still leave offerings to this day against the largest tree. We left a beautifully formed #quartzcrystal in flint stone found in the adjoining field. See below from Wikipedia; The four Handsel sisters were of #Danish origin but they had moved to the Wilton area. Coincidentally, an outbreak of #smallpox in 1737 killed 132 people. The local people became convinced that the #sisters were responsible for the #deaths and accused them of #witchcraft and an alliance with the #devil. Without an official hearing the sisters were taken to #GrovelyWood, #murdered by being #bludgeoned over the head, and buried a little way apart from each other so that they could not conspire against their murderers. There are four #gnarled #beech trees associated with the sisters; because either the trees were planted to mark their #graves or they mysteriously grew on top of the #unmarkedgraves to remind the locals of their dreadful deed. #Sightings of the sisters have been reported over the years. There is a hollow at the back of the largest tree where people leave offerings.
