Wooow, I just got a notification that I painted this 10 YEARS ago today. This painting is special to me for two reasons: 1. I learned so much making it. I'd never painted anything nearly so big before or since (It's the wood was from the bottom of a discarded twin size bed I found on the street) and I just decided to experiment- I painted it very quickly without thinking too hard about anything. I loved the feeling, and the result, but then immediately forgot it all the things I learned and went back to working small and overthinking everything for a long time. Now, 10 years later I'm *just* starting to work big and instinctively again. 2. Through hanging this peice in the original @littleskips Bushwick, I ended up connecting with a few serious kindred spirits who are still immeasurably important to me a full decade later - people whose love and support help keep me sane in times like these, so thank God I did! It's a good reminder that the process of making art and sharing art can teach and give you things that go way beyond the work itself. So let's make stuff and share it. Anyway TL;DR Art is cool. . #art #portrait #painting #foundmaterials #acrylic #artistsofinstagram #old #2010 https://www.instagram.com/p/CA00XfnDkoL/?utm_medium=tumblr

Some sculptures in the woods at the site of a very old small pit-mine near my studio. I love to balance and stack the wonderful variety of rocks found in the forest. Lately I've been adding pieces of wood and grape vine. These will last a week or a day and perhaps a year or more depending on the weather and the bears. . . . #blacksmithing #sculpture #foundmaterials #geologictime #impermanentart #coronavirus #shelteringinplace #wherearethetests #hickorynutgorge #faerie #maker (at Gerton Helipad) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_BkrqKBdvq/?igshid=21i46h8y4rg8

The last figure from "He Never Came Back" goes to its new home this week. This seven figure sculpture was made for my MFA thesis exhibit at Cal State Long Beach, way back in 2011. I wanted them to feel like a sort of absence, an indication that something was missing. He Never Came Back Fabrics, screen print, welded steel, ephemera 2011 . . . . . . . . . #camillataylor #camillataylorart #screenprint #sculptura #sculpture #fiberartist #fibersculpture #printmaking #darkart #gothart #sewing #subconciousmind #strangeart #foundmaterials #contemporaryprintmaking #allblackeverything #csulbgrad #artpovera #sculpturalprintmaking #softsculpture #gobeach #mfa #darkart #darkacademia #csulb #figurativeart #contemporarysculpture #figurativeabstract #fabricsculpture #fabricart #softart https://www.instagram.com/p/CQbv5y3HLR3/?utm_medium=tumblr

Glass, Color and Light
We recently came across a book, “Glass, Color and Light”, published by the Guggenheim in 1995. It features works by Josef Albers. We know and love Josef Albers as the master of the painted square; his homages to the simple shape are nothing short of ubiquitous. But what surprised us, and we weren’t as privy to, were these brilliant pieces he created in glass. In fact, glass was one of his first mediums. At the Bauhaus school in 1920, he collected glass from dumpsters and fused the scrap pieces together. These became the foundation for his exploration in glass, which would later come to include architectural commissions. (The images we show here reflect the timeline of his works in the medium).
Albers called them “wall glass paintings”.  At first glance it’s unclear what they’re made of. They borrow from the language of textiles, and with their geometric footprints, they definitely predict his later square works. They’re undeniably Bauhaus in their principle but they’re also rooted in a church-like language. Maybe because they’re colored glass, but also because of the purposefulness with which Albers crafted these. The Guggenheim pin-pointed the mysticism that Albers’ little known glass works bring up: “In some ways, glass is a sturdy medium, neither fading nor decomposing as time passes. Yet its relative fragility means that it often ends up being destroyed, whether by negligence or intent. Though it is difficult to find surviving examples of Albers’s glass work on display today, this catalogue remains as a memento.”
