Revised version of "polytheism vs elaborateness" religion chart. I started with a list of around 150 religions, sects, denominations, philosophies, and spiritual tendencies, whittled down to 100 based on what I could find information on and what meaningful differences would actually show up in a chart like this. Dark blue is Christianity and Christian-derived tendencies; light blue is Judaism and Jewish-derived tendencies; green is Islam and Islam-influenced tendencies; purple is ancient Mediterranean polytheism and related schools of thought; red is Dharmic/Hindu-influenced schools of thought; tan is Chinese religion and philosophy; orange is new religious movements; black is other, unaffiliated religions and movements.

Obviously, "what is a religion" is a complicated topic. Some of the things on this chart might strike you more as philosophical schools (Carvaka, Stoicism), epistemological approaches (Unitarian Universalism), or different ways of slicing the same tradition. The scholarly definition of "religion" is sort of fundamentally circular, and that's not something I'm interested in trying to untangle for this entirely non-scientific exercise.

Religions etc. are scored on two axis: polytheism vs elaborateness of practice. Polytheism is a rank from zero to 11, thus:

0. Strict atheist and materialist, denying the possibility of both gods and the supernatural, e.g., Carvaka.

1. Atheist. Denies the existence of significant supernatural agents worthy of worship, but may not deny all supernatural (or psychic, paranormal, etc.) beings and phenomena (e.g., Mimamsa).

2. Agnostic. This religion makes no dogmatic claims about the existence of supernatural beings worthy of worship, and it may not matter for this religion if such beings exist (e.g., Unitarian Universalists). It does not preclude--and may actually incorporate--other supernatural, psychic, or paranormal phenomena (e.g., Scientology).

3. Deist. This religion acknowledges at least one god or Supreme Being, but rejects this being's active intervention in the world after its creation (e.g., Christian Deism). Deism is marked with a gray line on the chart, in case you want to distinguish religions that specifically care about all this God business from ones that don't.

4. Tawhid monotheist. This religion acknowledges only a single transcendent god above all other natural or supernatural beings, who is usually the creator of the universe and the ground of being, and is without parts, division, or internal distinction (e.g., Islam).

5. Formal monotheism. This religion acknowledges a single god, usually transcendent above all other natural or supernatural beings, but who may have aspects, hypostases, or distinct parts (e.g., Trinitarian Christianity). Pantheism may be considered a special case of formal monotheism that identifies the universe and its many discrete phenomena with a single god or divine force.

6. Dualism. This religion acknowledges a single god worthy of worship, alongside a second inferior, often malevolent being that nevertheless wields great power in or over the world (e.g., Zoroastrianism or Gnosticism).

7. Monolatrist. This religion or practice acknowledges the existence of many gods or divine beings worthy of worship, but focuses on, or happens to be devoted to only one of them (e.g., ancient mystery cults; pre-exilic Judaism).

8. Oligotheist. This religion worships a small group of divine beings, who may function for devotional or rhetorical purposes as a single entity (e.g., Mormonism, Smartism).

9. Monogenic polytheism/Henotheism. This religion worships many gods, which it sees as proceeding from or owing their existence to, a single underlying or overarching force or supreme god (e.g., many forms of Hinduism).

10. Heterogenic polytheism. This religion worships many gods, who have diverse origins and/or natures. Though the number of gods is in practical terms probably unlimited, gods are discrete entities or personalities, i.e., they are "countably infinite" (e.g., many polytheistic traditions).

11. Animism. This religion worships many gods which may or may not be discrete entities, and which may or may not be innumerable even in principle, i.e., they are "uncountably infinite" (e.g., many animist traditions).

What counts as a god is naturally a bit of a judgement call, as is exactly where a religion falls on this scale.

Elaborateness of practice is based on assigning one point per feature from the following list of features:

Uses vs forbids accompanied music in worship

Saints or intermediary beings accept prayers/devotion

Liturgical calendar with specific rituals or festivals

Practices monasticism

Venerates relics or holy objects

Clerics have special, elaborate clothing

Clerics have special qualificiations, e.g., must be celibate or must go through elaborate initiation/training

Elaborate sacred art or architecture used in places of worship

Sites of pilgrimage, or other form of cult centralization

Sophisticated religious hierarchy beyond the congregational level

Mandatory periods of fasting and/or complex dietary rules

Specific clothing requirements for laypeople

Specific body modifications either required or forbidden for laypeople

Liturgical language

Complex ritual purity rules

Performs sacrifice

Performs human sacrifice (or cannibalism)

Uses entheogens

Uses meditation or engages in mystical practice

Additionally, a point is taken away for austerity for each of the following features:

Forbids secular music outside worship

Claims sola scriptura tradition

Practices pacifism or ahimsa

Requires vegetarianism of all adherents

These scores are probably pretty inexact, since I am not a scholar of world religion.

Other fun dimensions along which to chart religions might be:

Orthodoxy vs orthopraxy

Authoritarianism/control of members. This would add some much needed distinctions to Christian sects in particular, and to the new religious movements.

Elaborateness of cosmological claims. Some religions (looking at you, Buddhism) really go hog-wild here.

Social egalitarianism. Even within the same framework/tradition/philosophy, some practices differ radically on how egalitarian they are.

RFQ (Request for Quote) for Fanfic Illustration Project

Hello! I am a fanfic author looking to commission 6 illustrations to appear in an upcoming fanfiction. My tentative/negotiable budget for this is $1650 USD or $275/illustration. I wish them to be done by 24th September. I am looking for illustrations that are fully shaded, and in color, suitable for appearing inline both online (via AO3) and in print in B&W. I am an amateur fannish creator, and this is the first time I've ever done something like this, and have no contacts to which to rely upon. As a result, I'm also offering a $50 finders fee for any good-faith tip, recommendation, or referral that ultimately leads to a successful agreement.

About the project:

Nature of Work/Quality Requested: Each illustration will involve two canon Stargate SG-1 characters that require, shading, detailing, and coloring. Each illustration also requires a background that effectively communicates the scene geography (ie, where the characters are in relation to eachother and their immediate surroundings). However, generally, the backgrounds do not require complicated shading and detailing as long as they get across the general idea - with the exception of a landscape background for one of the six illustrations. The backgrounds are: medical lab, briefing room, daylight forest, hillside overlooking river, underground cave.

Fandom: This project deals with the Stargate SG-1 fandom, and the characters of Janet Fraiser, Jonas Quinn, Samantha Carter, and the Goa'uld Nirrti. Someone familiar with this fandom would be preferred, but if you are not, substantial high quality references will be provided.

Controversial/Squicky Elements: These requested illustrations do not involve any kind of erotica or ongoing/imminent violence/gore and are SFW. However, of note, a few of the desired illustrations require an accurate reproduction of automatic firearms typical of Stargate SG-1 (specifically, the M16A2 and the MP5, references will be provided), and one of the desired illustrations involves an injured and bloodied person.

Revisions/Alterations requested? Due to the expedited nature of the project (just under two months to finish), I don't expect there to be time for any significant alterations. All I would request is a sketch copy of each illustration before major detail/shading/color work is undertaken, so I can verify the scene geography and major components are correct. If there is time, I may pay extra for alterations should I want them.

In-story, online: Your name and a hyperlink to your website/social/portfolio (as desired) will be attributed in the author's notes of the chapters in which your illustrations appear. Your name will also appear at at beginning/foreward, credited as "Illustrator"

Day 5 of October Calendar -> Runes are an ancient alphabet used during the Old Norse times. It is written in the norse mythology (Poetic Edda) that Freyja as the goddess of seidr magic, she used the runes for magical purposes (evocation, invocation, healing, divination, ect). Odin has sacrificed himself by hanging himself from Yggdrasil to gain knowledge of the runes.

Loading this file in the program will load up the finished avatar with pre-linked and positioned pieces layered appropriately. You'll be able to adjust specifics such as FPS, bounciness, blink chance, etc. to your liking. They can easily be used with OBS and set up to use for Twitch or Discord streams, or just enjoyed as fun, bouncy, animated pieces of art.

The base price of a PNGTuber commission is $45 USD. This includes:

A waist up figure (examples 1 & 2) or full small & simple figure (example 3), rendered either in a lineless or a clean lined style, with simple shading.

A maximum of 10 separately layered objects. For reference, example 2 contains only 8 layers (3 eye states, 2 head states, body, ruffle, and additional ball.) (Not wishes: Cosmo poofs up a jar of pennies; A can of condensed milk; Wanda poofs a venus fly trap; Cosmo, a portrait of him and Wanda…Cosmo shrinks Angela’s book… Wanda rebuilds a shelf…Cosmo fixes a crack in the wall then covers it with a picture of himself; Wanda replaces the picture. Wanda poofs the door open/poofs it out of existence… they magic up random mail. Wanda teleports in front of the apartment building door. Cosmo crashes into her and that opens the door, I guess.)

Hazel: I wish (Wanda: Uh oh, she said the magic word.) Hazel: I wish! (Cosmo: She said it again! Wanda: You know what happens when we hear the magic word!) Hazel: Wish over, I want to be normal Hazel! (Wanda: You wished to be a detective like the ones you saw on TV,. None of them used magic to solve the case. You’re stuck until you solve the mystery.)

Hazel must save Coswanda rock from a meteor, then she defeats Seahorse Wanda… Hazel says she wished for a talking gut the day before; she still has it)

Hazel: I wish Ferray could talk (Jorgen grants this)

Like being tested by Jorgen in the Wish Trials, being tested by Jorgen in a giant cage match, or being tested by Jorgen in a- well, you get it… Peri: You’re not his Fairy Godparents! I am! I’ll handle this. Ahem. Dev, Fairy World is reserved for special occasions, like being tested by Jorgen, and as your Fairy Godparent I cannot let you go.)

Dev: Fine. I wish to go to Fairy World and not be tested by Jorgen (Peri: You can’t do that! Cosmo and Wanda: Aw, our son’s first wish loophole!)

Hazel: My gut is telling me I wish to go, too!

Dev: That’s where I want to go! The one place I can’t! The Hocus-Pogo-Stick or whatever! (Peri: Don’t worry, Hazel, it’s off limits t- Cosmo: IT’S OFF LIMITS TO HUMANS! <3 Peri: Yes. Thanks dad. And y- Wanda: You need a magic wand to travel Fairy World and only fairies have those.)

Dev: Well, I WISH I had a wand! (Peri: Uhm. I can’t do that. Can I do that? I’m not gonna do that.)

Dev: To the Hiccus-Pickle-Star or whatever. (Dev uses Peri’s wand, it transports them to StarDome)

Hazel makes a wand and casts rainbows. Dev makes a ladybug car. Dev poofs Hazel into a toaster, I think. Hazel poofs Dev into (or Dev poofs himself into) an Obtuse Rubber Goose on a skateboard. Hazel (or a rogue wish) freezes dev. A rogue star unfreezes him.

Dev accidentally unwishes him and Hazel into the Hocus Poconos. (Though they weren’t wishes in the first place. But I’m just writing this.)

There’s an unwish dragon that eats unwishes

Peri poofs him, Cosmo, Wanda, Dev, and Hazel out of Jorgen’s office and back to his parent’s house. (Still in Fairy World)

Episode 15b, The Treble with Rivals

Hazel: Cosmo, Wanda, I wish I could play all instruments. (This summons the nMusic Fairy)

Hazel: I wish for a trumpet and a violin

Hazel makes a miscellaneous wish to be in two places at once. This doesn’t clone her, it looks like it just poofs her between rooms but no one seems to care about her randomly appearing and disappearing.

Hazel: I wish that the band and orchestra kids had nothing to be rivals about (This gets rid of music)

Hazel: Just take me to the nMusic Fairy, please

The nMusic Fairy gives Hazel a note to temporarily restore music

Becoming an official fairy means you get your own anti-fairy

Lady: This macrochip powers all the wands in Fairy World. If this isn’t plugged in properly, no fairy can use their magic

Hazel: Cosmo, Wanda, I wish I was a kid again (Wanda: according to Da Rules we didn't make you a fairy so we can’t unmake you a fairy)

Hazel makes another of herself. It basically has no soul

Lezah makes two- then more- then gives them all papers- then turns herself into Hazel

Hazel destroys the certificate with magic- this gets rid of Lezah.. Not her shoes, though.

Hazel: I wish Winn and Jasmine were inside my head, that way they could really get to know me

Hazel: I wish the mind worm was gone (Wanda: We can’t do that. The mind worm is a part of you)

so how about life for them towards the end of university and after?!

- The way Felix walks into the dining room, makes a beeline for Oliver, kisses him on the forehead “Morning my love.”

- Felix and Oliver taking the train ride together back to Oxford after their first beautiful summer together. Oliver making sure Felix has got everything he needs. “Did you pick your phone up?” “Yeah absolutely darling.”

- Felix and Oliver sat in the library at uni. Oliver helping Felix with certain things he doesn’t quite grasp. It’s so simple and so normal but it’s everything to Felix. he tries to fit in as many of these library sessions with Oliver as he can.

- Felix renting them an apartment in Oxford during their final uni years. The boys love having their own space together. they often come back home in between lectures for some cuddle time.

- Felix seeing Oliver visibly stressed when final exams are coming up so one weekend he drives them to Alton Towers to help him relax. He books them a suite and splashes so much cash on Oliver. “These queues are a bit long.” “Unlimited fast track £60 each? Find where we pay Ollie darling.” Oliver of course brings his revision books with him much to the annoyance of Felix. He does a bit of revision on the lawns whilst Felix sunbathes.

- Felix throwing Oliver a huge graduation party. “You didn’t need to do this.” “You’re the king of my world. I’ll do anything for you.”

- Felix proposes to Oliver on a trip to Japan. Underneath the cherry blossoms, Felix gets down on one knee. “Will you make me the happiest man ever.”

- They want to get married but same sex marriage is not legal in the UK yet so a few years after their engagement they find a country to get married in. They get married in a beautiful ceremony. Elspeth wanted it to be a huge ceremony but Felix said he just wanted a small ceremony with those most beloved to him.
