how to transfer your old pokemon to pokemon home before it's too late!!!

the wi-fi services for the nintendo 3DS and WiiU are shutting down in early april 2024, and while it specifically lists pokemon bank and poke transporter as being available post-shutdown, there is no guarantee of how long that may be for. there will likely come a time when these services shut down, and it could be in the relatively near future.

it is also pretty much impossible now to transfer pokemon to the switch's Home service with alternative methods such as PKHeX (popular pokemon save editor for the uninformed) due to the implementation of server-side Home IDs tracking pokemon at all times - the details of that aren't super important for this post, but point is, whenever bank shuts down, unless nintendo makes an offline way to transfer to home, it will be impossible to move pokemon from the old gens to the new, even with alternative/hack-y methods.

i write this guide with the intention of making this process easier for people since transferring pokemon has changed so much over the past two decades that it's a bit of a mess, and in a timely manner to give people time to finish the process. i'll be organizing by generation so feel free to skip to any part of the guide you need. (keep in mind that transferring is permanent, your pokemon cannot go back afterwards!!)

(by the way it would mean a lot to me if you weren't overwhelmingly negative of pokemon in the tags/reblogs. i get that pokemon transferring being an online service sucks but reading that stuff in my notifications constantly is really tiring </3 make ur own post to talk about that)

to walk you through, i'll be transferring this random shiny spinda i hatched in emerald version all the way up to pokemon home. her name is Moss :]

below the cut since this is long as fuck sorry LOL

GEN 1/2 -> 3 (aka RBY/GSC -> RSE/FRLG)

this is impossible! as for the Virtual Console releases of the gen 1/2 games on 3DS, more on that later in the gen 5 -> 6/7 section.

GEN 3 -> 4 (aka RSE/FRLG -> DPPT/HGSS)

what you need:

a copy of RSE or FRLG

a copy of DPPT or HGSS in the same language as the RSE/FRLG copy that has beaten the champion and has access to post-game areas, preferably HGSS because it lets you transfer unlimited times as opposed to DPPT's once-per-24-hours limit (unless you happen to have korean DPPT/HGSS, which is not language locked in terms of transferring)

either an original DS or a DS lite, the old ones with the GBA slot at the bottom

the steps:

#1. you can only transfer 6 pokemon at a time, so get whatever 6 pokemon you want to transfer up together in gen 3. if you're intending to transfer less than 6 pokemon, you'll need to catch some extras since you have to transfer the full 6 every time (i usually just catch a bunch of extra mons on the first route, which is what i've done here with the poochyenas/wurmples)

#2. put the gen 3 game into the GBA slot of the DS, and the gen 4 game into the DS slot. both games should appear on the home menu after turning on the DS.

#3. load the DS game and spam A past the title screen. before loading your save, scroll down. you should see a "MIGRATE FROM (GAME NAME HERE)" option. if you don't, either the GBA game isn't reading properly, or you have not visited Pal Park in your gen 4 game of choice. in HGSS, the Pal Park is located in Fuchsia City, and in DPPT, the Pal Park is located at the end of Route 221 below Sandgem Town.

#4. select the aforementioned migration option and pick the pokemon you want to transfer.

#5. navigate to the Pal Park and complete the Catching Show, where you re-catch your transferred pokemon in the wild. this does not overwrite what pokeballs they were originally caught in! you will need to bring a pokemon with Surf if you have any Pokemon that spawn in the water areas. you can check what location the pokemon you transferred will be in on bulbapedia.

#6. say yes to storing the caught pokemon in your PC boxes and they'll be there!

important things to note:

pokemon with HM moves will be blocked from transfer, so make sure to use the Move Deleter to remove HM moves from any pokemon you're transferring in gen 3 before trying to transfer. in RSE, the Move Deleter is in Lilycove City, and in FRLG they are in Fuchsia City.

gen 3 -> 4 is the only step in the transfer process where held items transfer up as well, meaning that if you attach a valuable item such as a rare candy, master ball, or TM to a transferred pokemon, you can take it off that pokemon and put it in your bag in the gen 4 game.

an aside about colosseum/XD gale of darkness on gamecube:

you can transfer pokemon from colo/XD as well! unfortunately you'll need to have beaten colo/XD, and then you will also need to beat the gen 3 game... in FRLG, you even have to complete the postgame ruby/sapphire quest on the sevii islands to unlock trading with the gamecube games. once you do all that though, you can navigate to the pokemon center basement in Phenac City to trade with your gen 3 GBA title. to do this, you'll need a gamecube or wii with gamecube compatibility, a GBA (or GBA SP), and a GCN -> GBA link cable to connect the two consoles.

GEN 4 -> 5 (aka DPPT/HGSS -> BW/BW2)

what you need:

a copy of DPPT/HGSS

a copy of BW or BW2 in the same language as DPPT/HGSS copy that has beaten the champion (or N in the original BW) and has access to post-game areas.

two DS consoles of any kind (3DS is also fine!)

the steps:

#1. get the pokemon you want to transfer together in your gen 4 game's PC boxes. you can only transfer 6 pokemon at a time. if you have less than 6, catch some extra pokemon, since you need to transfer the full 6 every time. save it and turn off the DS with the gen 4 game.

#2. turn on your gen 5 game and navigate to the Poke Transfer Lab. personally i just fly to Black City/White Forest and head west.

#3. talk to the NPC in the lab to start the transfer process. you will be prompted to turn on your other DS again and open DS Download Play with your gen 4 game inserted. do that and download the Poke Transfer app that comes up.

#4. select the 6 Pokemon you want to transfer when prompted.

#5. play the transfer minigame! just drag the... bow? (lol) on the bottom screen to aim your pokeballs. there's technically a time limit, but it's very generous, and your final score doesn't matter.

#6. say yes to transferring the pokemon once you're done and they'll be placed in your PC boxes!

important things to note:

pokemon with HM moves will be blocked from transfer, so make sure to use the Move Deleter to remove HM moves from any pokemon you're transferring in gen 4 before trying to transfer. in DPPT they're in Canalave City, and in HGSS they're in Blackthorn City.

the level the pokemon was obtained at and the date it was obtained is changed upon transfer to gen 5 - it will have the met date of your DS clock and the met level of the level it was at the time of transfer. if you'd like to preserve a pokemon's met date, make sure to change the DS clock to the proper date.

GEN 5 -> 6/7 (aka BW/BW2 -> 3DS TITLES/BANK)

what you need:

a copy of BW/BW2

a copy of any 3DS pokemon game (XY/ORAS/SUMO/USUM)

a 3DS (or 2DS, i'll just be referring to them all as 3DSes here) with the poke transporter and pokemon bank apps installed. these were free apps that were once downloadable from the 3DS eShop, but the 3DS eShop is no longer available, so if you don't already have them installed you will need to explore alternate methods, AKA hacking your 3DS and injecting them in. that's outside the scope of this guide but you can find more information here on 3ds.hacks.guide. (do not attempt to follow any 3DS hacking guide not on this website, they could be outdated and harm your 3DS!)

a nintendo network ID that your 3DS is logged into (also outside the scope of this guide but if you don't already have one, it will prompt you during the process to make one)

internet connection

the steps:

#1. poke transporter defaults to trying to transfer every pokemon located in Box 1 of your PC, so go into your gen 5 game and put every pokemon you want to transfer into Box 1, and take anything you don't want to transfer out. if you want to transfer more pokemon than you can fit in one box, you'll have to transfer multiple times.

#2. open poke transporter with your gen 5 game inserted into the 3DS' cartridge slot. after pressing A through some menus and selecting the gen 5 game when prompted, it should ask if you want to transfer the pokemon in Box 1, with a preview of the pokemon inside. confirm and let it do its thing. after poke transporter is finished, the pokemon you transferred will be in the special Transport Box in bank.

#3. make sure you either have a 3DS pokemon title downloaded onto your 3DS, or swap out your gen 5 cart for one, it doesn't matter which.

#4. close out of poke transporter and navigate to pokemon bank. at the time of writing this guide, bank is still online and is free for everyone without a subscription - the main menu has an infinite "free trial" period number.

#5. select "use pokemon bank" and pick a 3DS game to connect with when prompted. it doesn't matter which one, but if you're looking to see your pokemon in a gen 6/7 game right now, pick the one you want to move it into. viewing a pokemon in a gen 6/7 game isn't required to move to home later, though!

#6. the Transport Box is located one box to the left of Box 1 - navigate to it and drag your pokemon out into a normal bank box. now you can move them to any gen 6/7 pokemon game you want, or home later!

important things to note:

even though bank connects with both gen 6 and gen 7 games, once you place a pokemon into a gen 7 game (SUMO/USUM), you cannot transfer that pokemon back to a gen 6 game (XY/ORAS), so be careful!

an aside about the VC releases of RBY/GSC:

poke transporter can also be used to transfer pokemon out of the VC releases of RBY/GSC. these pokemon are changed pretty heavily, converting all their old gen data into pokemon's modern data structure. you can find more information about all the changes/conversions made on bulbapedia. these pokemon are considered gen 7 pokemon afterwards, and cannot be moved into XY/ORAS. pokemon with held items also cannot be transferred from VC titles and will fail to transfer.

if you want to transfer pokemon from cartridge RBY/GSC and have a save dumping device, it is possible to inject the cartridge's save file into the VC versions with Checkpoint on a hacked 3DS and then transfer that way. for GSC specifically, you'll need to edit your save slightly to make it compatible with VC GSC's save format. i personally made a converter for that here that you're free to use in-browser.

GEN 6/7 -> GEN 8+ (aka BANK -> HOME)

what you need:

a 3DS (or 2DS, i'll just be referring to them all as 3DSes here) with the pokemon bank app installed. this was a free app that was once downloadable from the 3DS eShop, but the 3DS eShop is no longer available, so if you don't already have it installed you will need to explore alternate methods, AKA hacking your 3DS and injecting it in. that's outside the scope of this guide but you can find more information here on 3ds.hacks.guide. (do not attempt to follow any 3DS hacking guide not on this website, they could be outdated and harm your 3DS!)

a nintendo network ID that your 3DS is logged into (also outside the scope of this guide but if you don't already have one, it will prompt you during the process to make one)

a switch with Pokemon Home installed, which can be downloaded for free from the switch's eShop. a nintendo switch online subscription is not required.

unfortunately, you WILL need a subscription to home's premium plan to do bank -> home transfers.

internet connection

the steps:

#1. open pokemon bank and make sure all the pokemon you want to transfer are in their own boxes, and any you don't want to transfer are not in the same boxes as the to-be-transferred pokemon.

#2. go back to the bank home menu and select the "move pokemon to pokemon home" option. when you get the notice about the transfer being one-way, you'll need to scroll down to hit "Begin".

#3. you will be prompted to select what boxes of pokemon you'd like to transfer, so pick all the applicable ones.

#4. you will then be prompted to put in the moving key from home, so turn on your switch, open pokemon home, and select the icon that looks like a 3DS on the main menu. when prompted, choose "Ready!" to get the moving key.

#5. input the moving key on the 3DS, submit it, and wait for both apps to do their thing. once bank goes back to its title screen, you can turn off the 3DS.

#6. home will go back to its title screen as well, and depending on how many pokemon you moved, you may have to wait a few minutes to get back into the app. once it's done, the next time you open home, it'll prompt you to choose how to organize your transferred pokemon into home. pick whatever you see fit.

#7. congratulations, your pokemon are safe in home!!

important things to note:

unlike all pokemon games before the switch, pokemon can actually go backwards in generation on switch, so don't worry about transferring a pokemon into scarlet/violet locking you out of moving it to sword/shield, for example. (the exception to this is LGPE - nothing can be moved into LGPE and once a pokemon is moved out of LGPE, it can't go back.)

pokemon home actually has decent hack checks, so be careful when transferring hacked/glitched/otherwise illegitimate pokemon around.

pokemon from a gen 3/4 game will have their met location set to "Poke Shifter" - this is an alternative translation of the japanese name for the Poke Transporter.

pokemon on switch can only transfer into games that contain that pokemon in its dex, so not everything transferred can go into scarlet/violet, for example.

and that's it!!

there's a lot of other quirks to the pokemon transferring process at pretty much all steps, so if you run into an unusual issue or have specific questions about how pokemon data is changed in minute ways across the franchise, i would encourage you to do your own research, all of this stuff is pretty heavily documented by the fanbase. this is just meant to be a guide for casual users, and a quick reference.

this guide of course does not cover options for transferring in alternative ways, but it's worth mentioning that if you have a hacked 3DS and the ability to back up save files at any point from gens 3 -> 5, you can use PKHeX to transfer pokemon into the 3DS titles, then move them to bank and transfer to home normally from there. that's outside the scope of this guide and i'd also encourage you to do your own research for that.

Oooh hoo! I'm actually making them explore their love languages in the fic I'm writing right LMAO.

But yeah! I'll share some of my brain thoughts!!

Their love languages:

Lucifer's Lover Language: Gift Giving (he likes creating things, especially if he has someone specific in mind because that's when its got the most heart and effort in it, and people accepting his gifts and genuinely liking them mean the absolute word to him), Words of Affirmation (sometimes he just needs some affirmation, you know? Sometimes he needs to be told he's doing a good job), and Physical Touch (likes the closeness and intimacy of it, whether its cuddling, sex, or just holding hands).

Alastor's Love Language: Acts of Service (he shows his love by doing things for you, be it home cooked meals, picking up a few things for you, or killing someone. It's all in the name of love, baby!), Words of Affirmation (give him compliments. He needs them like air. if there's any stroking going on, it's going to be strokes to his ego), and Quality Time (arranged quality time, to be specific. I feel like he wouldn't like people popping up on him out of nowhere and dragging him off. Well, unless you're Rosie, maybe. Anyway, sometimes it's just being in his own room, doing his own thing, in the companionship of Lucifer's company. They can talk and argue and banter, but companionable silence is good too.)

Who cooks for the other?

Alastor.

Alastor def cooks for Lucifer when he actually enjoys being in his presence. He knows a lot of home-cooked meals, as well as a variety of desserts and sweets (even if he, personally, doesn't like sweet things). Some of it is because he enjoys cooking for people he likes, and some of it is just because it's a fun hobby to him. He likes learning how to cook new recipes, even if he might not like that recipe himself.

I think Lucifer knows how to cook. Maybe nothing extravagant or super complicated, but he can make a good dish. As soon as Charlie moved out, he kind of fell out of it, though. Anything he made for himself was Hell's equivalent of a microwaveable dinner. He just did not have the motivation, energy, or mental/emotional capacity to put a lot of effort into himself. He really enjoyed cooking things for Charlie, and I actually think he'd tried to cook Alastor's favorite dish as a surprise for him (for their anniversary, or an in-house date night, or just as a random act of love, because I feel like Lucifer would do a lot of spur-of-the-moment, random acts of love).

Have they ever considered sleeping in the same bed?

They did, eventually, when their relationship got to the point they felt comfortable doing that. Alastor likes his space, and he doesn't like people intruding on it. His room is his comfort zone. He doesn't mind physical touch, but it needs to be on his own terms. Sometimes, he's okay with cuddling up next to Lucifer, and sometimes he just needs his space while he's sleeping.

Lucifer can still be in the bed, he's just gotta stay on his side.

Lucifer, on the other hand, is a big cuddler. He's incredibly touch-starved from being on his own for so long, so he'll take the physical touch he can get. Alastor can recognize when Lucifer needs more physical touch, and he'll offer it so long as he's also mentally able to as well.

The more they get used to each other's presence, the more Alastor is open to Lucifer sleeping in the same bed with him, and indulging in physical contact. Lucifer is patient, and if Alastor wants him to stay on his side of the bed one night, he's fine with that. He'll get his cuddles again, eventually.

What would they bond over?

How bad modern television/entertainment is. It's all quantity over quality. There's rarely any real passion put into it. It's all to make as much money as possible, without putting life into the story.

Alastor is an entertainer. As a radio host, all he had to keep a captive audience was his voice and whatever other sounds he decided to use. It's all audio. And he has passion for entertainment. It needs flair! Drama! Charm!

All the modern stuff just feels so bland and lazy (and maybe he's a little too harsh on it sometimes. Even if he comes across something he actually likes, he'll NEVER admit it).

Lucifer just wants something good to watch, but anything he put on just didn't hit it for him. Sometimes, just sitting on the couch for hours watching cash-grab movies/shows made him feel even worse about himself, and creating ducks at least gave him some enjoyment, so he turned to that.

He doesn't have as much vehemence for modern entertainment as Alastor. If he finds something he likes, he'll happily watch it (much to Alastor dismay). But he rarely finds anything that REALLY intrigues him, so he just doesn't go searching for it very often.

I also think they would bond over their respective hobbies. Lucifer likes making and collecting ducks. Alastor likes collecting furbies. They go hobby shopping together. Alastor rearranges and dusts off his furbies, while Lucifer creates his ducks. They co-play.

Additional headcanons (some of which you guys might already know!):

Alastor Bottoms and Lucifer Tops (In this specific relationship. Lucifer, himself, is a switch (which is canon!), but Alastor doesn't like topping- or inserting any part of himself into someone else. It's icks him out. He's okay with taking on a more passive bottom role. He might be convinced to Top, maybe, but it rarely ever happens).

Alastor is sex neutral, in the way that he's okay with having sex when he feels up to it, but he's also totally fine with not having it at all (Except when Lucifer goes demon mode in bed, because he has a power kink, and he is ALL for that. It's the only time he'll be an active bottom during sex).

Lucifer has a very high libido. It dropped a lot in the 7 years that he isolated himself in his palace (and because of depression. Depression definitely had a hand in that too), but as he starts getting into a better mind space and getting the mental-health help he needs, his libido comes back full force. He'll never push Alastor into doing anything, and he's okay with taking care of his sexual needs on his own, he's just a very, very horny man. He loves the intimacy, closeness, and pleasure that comes with sex, and loves sharing that with his partner. It's very important to him. It took a while for Alastor to really understand WHY sex is so important to Lucifer, as it doesn't really make sense to him, but once he did, he tries to be more active when they do have sex - or more proactive in initiating it (of course, only when he wants to, because you shouldn't force yourself to have sex with your partner!)

Alastor and Lucifer argue about the stupidest, most random, most insignificant things. It'll lead to full on shouting matches, and then 10 minutes later, they're chilling on the couch like nothing happened at all. They argue for the sake of arguing. The more heated, the better.

Annnd, that's all I have time for right now, but I do have more headcanons tumbling around in my head. Many thoughts.

God, I REALLY hope Juleka wins the Butterfly poll when it’s time for it - she’s the only one out of ALL the girls whose main color is actually Violet (as opposed to Pink or Indigo), and I feel like her character development wasn’t handled as well as it could’ve been (NONE of the character arcs were, but she sticks out to me in that she’s one of the more recurring supporting characters due to being Luka’s sister yet is simultaneously forgotten by both the canon show and the fandom in how things would affect HER SPECIFICALLY instead of adjacently through the people around her). I also feel like she would be a good match with whatever you’re going to solidify for Bugettes!Nooroo based on the tiny hints you’ve teased about him, both in itself and compared to Roaar, with whom I feel there were existing avenues for it to work but could’ve been sold to us much better in-show. Plus, I’d really just like to see her in a hero suit that’s actually purple; it still bugs me personally that PURPLE Tigress is far more magenta in actuality, almost red even, and very much like REFLEKTA’S main color at that.

Yeah we will see, as ultimately it'll come down to how the polls go, and I know Marinette and Rose have also gotten mentioned for Butterfly.

Juleka will also appear in the poll for Mantis, as Indigo is that in between blue and violet. So it's all kinda up in the air on how it'll go.

I also do agree. Juleka is one of the classmates that does stand out to me in her potential, and yeah it's butchered. So badly. This is primarily on the writers, but one of the things I dislike about Luka is the factor that, for the Couffaines, he's the priority. You could cut out Juleka and you wouldn't miss much. Like, the worst aspect is learning Jagged is their dad, but it was more Jagged and Luka's story than Jagged with both kids. Like, what was the point of making them both his kids when only kid really got priority in this revelation?

And yeah... Juleka with Tiger isn't really my go to pick either. I get her whole thing is trying to find her voice, to be heard and stand out. And with a kwami named Roaar, that does technically work off that agenda, but the power is One Punch Man vs doing something tied to vocals or sound. Which kinda makes the kwami's name a little random (honestly all Zodiac kwamis have really strange names that don't relate to their powers or themes).

The other odd detail is that, when you think of felines that are about roaring, tigers aren't what immediately come to mind, it's the lion. They roar to establish territory, to be heard and say "I'm here!", unless Roaar is meant to be a sort of mix of a tiger and lion? As she doesn't have a body covered in stripes?

I know that, supposedly, there's a Lion Miraculous coming, but it's not official yet.

Either way, tigers I more associate with hunting, stealthy ambush. Not really speaking out. I'll give it, tigers can be tied to leadership which does involve being heard, but it's more military leadership. They're more tied to war, aggression, and strength.

As for the kwami, to me, Roaar came off a bit of a bully. Which maybe Juleka just needs that tough love/push to speak up, but I personally didn't really care for their interactions. Though I still say Mullo and Mylene were the worst paired characters out of all kwamis and humans.

And yeah, Roaar visually doesn't really match with Juleka.

Technically, she matches with Cat the most.

Her main color is black, with bits of purple and green.

While Plagg is meant to be a black cat, there are times he's purple. And of course he has them big green eyes.

I could also see Juleka visually working with Kaalki. I see a hue of purple in her gray, and there is the green eyes to work off as well.

There's also the intrigue that Juleka wants to be a model and Kaalki expects someone famous or wealthy, getting a holder who isn't but wants to be, Kaalki would have to work with them to get them to where they both want Juleka to be; though I do see them butting heads a bit as it's pairing two of high and low status, but that could be fun. Plus, there's the pun potential of Juleka learning to be a show pony with Kaalki's help (she could've also called herself Knightmare).

And yeah, with Butterfly, Juleka could've done well. You do have to communicate with others, so Juleka would have to work at talking with others, to express her thoughts and to be heard, and there's some pressure to be taken off as it's more long range communication vs close, but the option is there for close range communication whenever Juleka is ready for it. And Nooroo would be a gentle and patient guide.

We'll have to see if it happens though.

TTRPG Read-Through: Traveller - Book 1

Here is a read-through I did about a year and a half ago (originally posted on Twitter) of one of the all time classics: Traveller by Game Designers' Workshop! This read-through just covers Book 1 - Characters and Combat from the original Traveller box set trio of books. - Christian

This is the 1981 Second Edition printing of the classic Traveller three zine box set! Been wanting to read this for ages now. It's discussed A LOT in Mothership circles.

Really interesting to see GM-less and solo play options here. Didn't realize that was being done explicitly at this time. Also, nice to see "he or she" language here rather than the just "he" you see a lot in older games.

The UPP is clearly the creation of an utterly deranged mind. This seems like a huge overcomplication of just listing stats (unless all your players are proficient in hexadecimal).

[Hi, it's me from the future here (aka now - 2024): I've learned to embrace and love the UPP (or more specifically the planet stat version from one of the other books). It's complicated at first but really quick and cool once you know how to read it.]

I really like Social Standing as a stat replacement for charisma or charm or other social skills you tend to see. Feels like it would have more impact on the story and less of a "Roll to see if you convince him, I guess" sort of anticlimax social skills have most of the time.

I'm now into the "you can die during char creation in Traveller" bits. Really cool in some ways. Really comical in others. It recommends you enlist your bad stat characters into the Scout service because of it's high mortality rate (so you can roll a diff char before play), lol.

Essentially, you roll stats and that's your entire character but to give them some experience they can enlist in a Service. You have to roll to get in and may get rejected. If so, you submit to the draft (get into one at random). You can die. You can gain skills and promotions.

Honestly, the char creation feels like a solo game unto itself. Risk v reward of how far to push your enlistments to boost your skills and standing and benefits. You could have a whole story in your head by the end of it. Great Session 0 material.

As a 34 yr old, this hurts. Apparently, I have -1 Strength, Dexterity and Endurance now...

I admire commitment but asking GMs to use this full char creator for all NPCs (which means generating chars until you get one capable of filling the role you need) is truly too wild. Best part: at the end, it just says you can also pick whatever you want for stats and skills.

The weapons and intro text have much more of a space as a new age of sail vibe to them than I was anticipating. It's cool. Far more Dune than Alien (so far).

Interestingly (unless I missed something), skills are detached from your stats. Your base stats make getting into a Service easier and help you with Saving Throws and such, but skills have their own modifiers based on the situation and your expertise. It's cool (if a bit dense)!

In case you were wondering, there is absolutely no art in this entire book. I'm hoping we'll get some in one of the other two books with vehicles and ships and such but won't be holding my breath. Gives the whole thing a very Serious vibe.

Always interesting to see how older games chose to handle this (or not).

Here's the UPP in action along with quick listing of other character info. Interesting even if it is just too overcomplicated for my tastes.

Can't overstate how much char creation feels like a whole solo game of its own. You can roll a character at age 18 and have them go through seven 4-yr terms in a Service before retiring and having substantial cash, specific possessions, memberships and social standings. Wild.

The character sheet mentions PSIONICS which is exciting (but I'll have to wait till Book 3 for more on that apparently).

Combat is straightforward but has some unique bits: a focus on stealth as an option and movement/attacks occur by all parties simultaneously which means everyone (enemies too) gets to move and then everyone chooses who to attack and you roll them all. Sounds really fun.

Stats have cool effects in battle. Your Endurance stat is the number of attacks you can make before needing to rest (can you imagine if DnD just didn't let you do a base attack at a point?). Strength and Dex can boost or lower certain weapon rolls like you'd expect.

If trained in a weapon, you can give your expertise as a negative mod to your enemy's rolls to attack you to reflect parrying and blocking which is cool. The skills also add to your attack rolls. Skills just seem really useful overall here.

I just love that we get stats for broadswords, revolvers, and laser carbines. Plus, there are even special tables for archaic weapons for when encountering lower-tech civilizations. It feels like a really wide open interpretation of what space could look like. Feels exciting.

A few more equipment tables and a final quick reference page at the back and that's all for Book 1. I'll be back with Book 2 and 3 in the coming days!

Main thoughts: Character creation is very involved but really cool - its own game practically. Skills are very deep in a way that feels refreshing when compared to more stat-focused games. Combat has some fun, chaotic twists. Feels like a wide universe of possibility here so far.

If you had to pinpoint the main issue of MLB, the root of all evil if you may (aside from Astruc), what would it be?

If we're going super high level, it would be narrative consistency (I believe this is a synonym for "narrative coherence" or, at least, I've always used them pretty interchangeably and googling one finds you stuff on the other). I wanted to get an official definition of this term and wikipedia gave me this from a larger article on the theory of narrative paradigm:

Narrative coherence is the degree to which a story makes sense. Coherent stories are internally consistent, with sufficient detail, strong characters, and free of significant surprises. The ability to assess coherence is learned and improves with experience. Individuals assess a story's adherence by comparing it with similar stories. The ultimate test of narrative sense is whether the characters act reliably. If figures show continuity throughout their thoughts, motives, and actions, acceptance increases. However, characters behaving uncharacteristically destroy acceptance.

I also found a pretty good overview of the topic on the blog of a random editor. You can follow that link to read the whole thing, but I wanted to highlight this section on characters as I thought it was particularly relevant to the stuff I talk about on this blog:

Your characters will have their own personalities and behaviours that the reader will become familiar with as the story develops, so if you deviate from these patterns, the reader will notice. That’s why it’s important to maintain character consistency – that they would act in a way that is right and in keeping with their personality, rather than making them act out of character to make elements of the story fit.

As you can hopefully see from the above sources, the stuff I've talk about on here, and just generally thinking about the show, most of the issues with Miraculous have to do with the show being narratively incoherent. Characters do whatever the writers want them to do. Plot lines get dropped and picked back up then dropped (Lila) with no rhyme or reason. Big, meaningful setups lead to nothing (Gabriel learning all the temp heroes identities). Twists come out of nowhere (Kagami being a senti). They all indicate that something is majorly wrong here.

I am not involved in the production of this show, so I cannot tell you where all of these issues come from. It may be that the writing staff doesn't know what they're doing or it could be that unknown forces like marketing are driving the writers to do things that they'd rather not or it could be a mix of the two. For example, I'm pretty sure the magical charms we get in season four were only added to sell stuff like this and this, which is why I try to approach this show without pointing fingers at anyone too specific unless there's some hard evidence to back up what I'm saying. All I know is that this show has a massive writing problem and I'll end with a little advice on how I avoid this issue. It may or may not work for you. It all depends on your writing style.

When you sit down to write a story, it's very normal to not have a clear path for how to get from story point A to story point B. You don't need to find that path before you start writing. You just need to keep in mind that B is your goal and start figuring out how to logically get there.

I often describe this process as taking a journey with a known destination, but no planned route. However, just like with a road trip, the further you go, the more limited your options become because of the choices you made. If you skipped stopping at an interesting city or landmark, you can't change that fact and we're not turning the car around just so you can get a picture next to the big ball of string. You had your chance and you missed it. Accept that and move on.

Similarly, as you write your story, you have to own the choices you've already made on your journey. If you choose to let a character in on a massive secret (Alya learning Ladybug's identity), then you have to fully own how that choice would impact all elements of the story (Alya's opinion of Lila) not just the short sighted elements you wanted it to impact (note how Lila's not a thing in season four? Almost like they didn't plan out how to handle her and Alya at the same time?) Own the route you committed to and find a way to tell the next part of the story in a way that feels like it's on the same route and you'll be fine.

Does that mean occasionally having to give up on cool ideas that you really liked? Yep, but that's the nature of story telling. It's part of the reason why people are told to "kill their darlings." That's just a thing you have to learn to do if you want to be a good writer.

I really like the tunic, I know it's a color pallet nightmare and shouldn't work, but it makes him visually stand out against the greens and blues of most of the chain, which I think is fun! (also pretty colors) (and smol)

From a personality/characteristics view point, I really like the complexities with his character! It's really difficult to see him as a 2d character, because of the Colors, which I think is really fun! Stick four different, but still somewhat flat sometimes (as is their point kinda), characters together and you get the real humanity of a fully fleshed out person unavoidable in the character!

And! They've known each other since they were children because their parents were friends and Hyrule Town is a fairly small town, no? This could be argued towards a friends-to-lovers plot line technically, but I just automatically file "known each other as kids" under "a subsection of siblings" because of my own experiences (and the aroaceness) sooooooooooo... yeah...

One thing you have to keep in mind when watching anything on the internet about Chernobyl: if they bring up HBO's show as a credible source, quote it, use mostly stills or photos of the scenery or actors instead of of the real stuff etc etc - that is a flag more red than that of the Soviet Union, okay? HBO in thumbnails? Unless it's a "this show is extremely inaccurate" kind of video, that's most likely due to a) the lack of knowledge about actual credible sources or b) need for profit (monkey sees, monkey does clicks - the show is incredibly popular, putting imagery related to it means a higher chance people will choose your video).

To keep it short and (not at all) sweet: this guy is like the evil brother of That Chernobyl Guy. This is That Bare Minimum Chernobyl Man, though. He uploads a video at least once a week and they always JUST BARELY hit the 10 minute mark. But they always do. Hm... I wonder why... I sure do wonder what the number 10 and YouTube have in common... oh. Oh yeah. It starts with MONETI and ends with SATION Need a hint? Mhm, I didn't think so. Speaking of time, the intro is usually almost 2 minutes long, the outro a minute and, there you go, suddenly there's actually even less content than expected.

He has some genuinely bad takes sometimes, too. I don't know if I'm just sensitive about Toptunov specifically (I very clearly am) or if his video on him is just especially offensive to me... and it's 12 minutes 😍😍 two more than usual! And so, I'll use this video as an example. (edit during drafting: he had just released a video on N.M. Fomin which... I'll watch once I'll have some time to waste and we'll see how bad that one is...)

11. a genre you just can’t stand

oooooo interesting question!!! honestly idk if I really have a particular genre I hate as a whole - I feel like I try to be open minded and if a film is good enough I can appreciate it even if it's not a genre I'm super into. that said I generally am not into spy movies or war movies, unless there's something very specific that makes me like it. Oh, and I mostly find biopics pretty dull but I feel like that's more about how most modern biopics all follow a very similar format

13. do you have a favorite film in another language?

ok so technically I've only watched this in english bc I couldn't find the original spanish version anywhere but I do think if you're an animation fan and you've never seen birdboy the forgotten children you are depriving yourself!!!! I'll link the spanish trailer here bc I think it does a great job conveying the tone and sheer weirdness of the film, but essentially it's this very dark incredibly surreal animated film about a community of animal people living on an island that was devastated in a factory explosion many years ago. it's emotionally devastating and darkly funny and has such striking imagery and gorgeous art direction and it just. drives me crazy that no one's seen it or even heard of it. I wrote one of my second year essays on this film and could probably yap on about it for hours it's one of my all time favourites!!

also I don't like them as much as birdboy but I also adore ernest and celestine april and the extraordinary world and run lola run those are also some of my favourite films of all time!!!

39. in your opinion what is the most underrated movie?

I mean.... to be honest probably birdboy again fkdljsfjsljlk but if I have to pick a different one... honestly this is a super hard question for me to answer bc I just have so many random obscure (mostly) animated films that I love. just to make things easier I'm gonna talk about a movie that came out last year that I thought was super underrated (at least I never saw anyone talking about it here which is a shame) which is polite society!! A very funny parody martial arts movie about a teenage girl with dreams of becoming a stuntwoman who learns her older sister is getting married and begins to suspect the groom's family are up to no good...

I'll admit part of the reason I loved this film so much is just that it really connected with me personally, both as someone who grew up in London and as an almost-art-school-dropout, but I also think it's just a super fun film with a lot of creative storytelling and great fight scenes! I'd drop the trailer for this one too but I think it does give away a bit too much of the story so. letting you all trust me on this one

I have a problem with PMD: Explorers of Sky that's keeping me from enjoying it. I'm really determined to customize my team with my favorite pokemon. I brought a Lileep with me, since it's available early on, but I reached a point where it can't meaningfully contribute. Its HP is so atrocious that it faints too quickly, and leveling it up doesn't seem to help. Is the game just designed so that certain team members are non-viable, or is there something I could be doing better?

I'm playing a mod called Explorers of Heaven which does things a little differently, so I'll try to answer keeping in mind the differences in both versions.

PMD's stat system is pretty much identical to the core games' system, with three exceptions. The first is that, as far as I can tell, EVs and IVs are not a thing. Two Lileeps will have identical stats if they're at the same level, Gummis notwithstanding. This means, unfortunately, that investing a lot of time into a pokemon doesn't make up for its naturally low stats.

The second thing is that starter pokemon have buffed stats to make up for the fact that, if one of them faints, it's an automatic game over. At the same level, they're going to be stronger than anything else. IMO this creates a big problem with the extra team members since they'll be underlevelled anyway.

The third thing is that Gummis are a game changer in Explorers of Sky specifically, because once you unlock the Spinda Cafe, 1 gummi = 1 random stat boost. The base game doesn't give you nearly enough gummis to make this meaningful, though the EoHeaven mod improves this. Given infinite gummis, you can bring a pokemon's stats to 255 in everything (and 999 in HP).

Gummis serve as a sort of equivalent to EVs, since they increase a pokemon's IQ which provides them passive buffs even when they don't come with stat increases.

All that to say, PMD is not designed for team composition, or picking your favorite pokemon and building them up to get through the game like the core series is. The other two mons on your team should be there to make up for weaknesses, but You and your Partner are the main characters of the story and the gameplay. I even turn off the IQ move Item Master on extra teammates so that they don't consume my Reviver Seeds. Regardless of what mon it is, it is very normal for your extra team members to faint.

EoHeaven increases the difficulty by quite a bit so my experience may differ, but it was always rare for me to end a dungeon with a full party unless I recruited new ones to replace the ones that fainted. In fact, there was one dungeon where I went through 8 party members! I don't think it can get that extreme in the base game, but the point is everyone is squishy except the main characters.

To that end, the majority of story dungeons (in the form of "Expeditions") don't actually let you bring any pokemon other than you and your partner. Even though the narrative is stronger for it, it's a pretty solid criticism of the game that you don't have access to a major feature for most of the campaign.

Now, if you wanted to see what you could do to make Lileep viable even despite the game's insistence that other team members serve mostly as extra targets for enemies to focus on instead of you, you can consider using TMs to teach them moves that affect the room so they can participate in fights while staying out of the line of sight of opponent attacks. You can change their Tactic to Avoid Trouble so that they run away if their health gets too low (although leaving the group comes with its own set of problems).

Essentially, since the game wants extra team members to serve only as support, you can lean into that and try and figure out how to make them most useful in that role.

A- Activities: What do they like to do together? How do they spend their free time?

In any free time he gets, Cloud would want to meaningfully spend it with you talking, sparring or maybe even taking you out for a small spontaneous date bc he's too inexperienced and nervous to ask you out before hand. He kind of just tells you you're going and you're going, no questions asked.

B- Beauty: What do they admire about their s/o? What are their partner's best features?

I feel like Cloud would genuinely have such a hard time with picking a favorite about his s/o because he loves you and everything that came with you, so for him it’s like, “why would I have to pick a favorite when I can just favor it all?”. But seriously if he had to choose it’d be your open mindedness and willingness to accept him despite his “faults” because he knows that he’s disliked among many people for his views, attitude and the way he speaks realistically and unforgivingly how he wants. So when you truly looked past that into the meaning behind his words and eyes, it would mean the world and beyond to him.

C- Comfort: How do they comfort their partner during any low moments?

Cloud isn't really good with words, he’s more of an action kind of guy— but he understands over time how to comfort you. If you're not doing so good, he can tell immediately. I consider him to be very attentive without even trying; like he’ll be noticing things about you without either of you realizing it because he’s always looking at you. You don’t even have to say how you’re feeling, he already has an idea. Without asking why, he'll just walk silently into your room at the inn and crawl into bed beside you as you cry into his chest or his shoulder 🥺 he'd be super understanding, not try to suggest solutions unless you asked for them and won’t ask you or beg you to explain… He’ll probably stroke the back of your head and whisper random thoughts in the air to distract you when you quiet down.

D- Dreams: How do they envision their future with their s/o? How do they want to build a life with their partner? (Fem!reader lightly implied)

Cloud still finds it hard to believe that he was able to pull you (strange, because you feel that way as well) but never once has he complained about it. Never will he. If at all possible, he at least wants to put a ring on your finger, however, he is totally okay with just staying with you forever. I feel like he wants to marry you to see you in wedding attire and for the memories but he’s also the type of guy to think that the idea of putting labels/rings on to prove your love is ridiculous. After all, no one/thing can prove his love for you like he can and labels aren’t what’s important; as long as he can stay by your side and call you his, and vise versa, he’s totally happy. Of course, if you want to get married he’s not averse to the idea at all, either, he doesn’t mind either way. When it comes to children… hear me out!! I feel like he doesn’t really want any children. If you feel strongly about it, he’s open to working things out and agreeing on one way or the other. But his childhood was messed up, along with the enemies/people that wish to see him suffer along with his enemies, line of work and just generally not feeling passionate about them, is all what makes him not really want to have any; again, though, he’s willing to work things out. Besides, there’s Marlene and Denzel, they’re enough for him. He is open minded, and willing to change his mind, though.

E- Equal: Who is the dominant one? Who has more control and who does more work on what sides of the spectrum?

I feel like you guys are very equal in terms of dominance (in bed and in general)… like for the most part, it doesn’t matter who’s in the dominant position. However, in most cases, he would have a preference toward being in control. If you ever are on top, he's the one who keeps you there and it's only because he needs to feel something. Again, you two make decisions together and the relationship is equal otherwise. As for house work, obviously no one likes doing any of it but since he’s always out fighting, it has to be taken care of by you; which he always appreciates and thoroughly thanks you for because he knows how important it is (his mother is to thank for this gentleman even if he has a mean first impression). Whenever he has time off, he’ll do the housework he can and surprise you with some not-so-professionally-made-and-maybe-even-burnt (but love-filled) breakfast to emphasize his point. If you work just as much as him or with him, you tend to do housework together!

F- Fight: What do they fight about? Is it easy to forgive and forget? Who apologizes first? What's it like?

So for the most part it's bickering and minor disagreements about the dangers of your jobs, insecurities or jealousy and what not. Obviously, you two will have playful squabbles where you call each other a moron It doesn’t tend to get much worse. Anything else will honestly end in screaming and crying (a lot of it being on your part sorry lol he's not someone who loses his cool easily). However he may raise his voice if gets intense. Whatever it may be over, you'll probably be in one of your rooms, yelling about his job (bc you're scared you poor baby) and he's trying to reason but the insecurities, the fear, the uncertainty and stress are all literally too much. He understands why you're upset but he's trying to make a living for you two and eventually he ends up yelling because he's so stressed and trying to put his opinion out. Occasionally you'll be the only one yelling- These actually make your relationship stronger and always end up okay! He often apologizes first but it's always awkward and stiff because he isn't used to it; but he’s trying his best! Will be very clingy afterwards, a bit more possessive.

G- Gratitude: Do they appreciate their partner? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?

For what he thought was way too long, he didn’t realize how much you changed his life until he (idk) picks up one of your habits or the way you do small kind things for him and he suddenly feels the undeniable desire to do the same for you without realizing he already has. So he does extra just because he's falling harder and harder every day; because he wants to. He wants to be the source of your happiness and to see a smile light up your face. He's genuinely so painfully grateful that you chose him and loved him the way you did… I feel like that thought is what causes insecurities (like “I’m not good enough, “they deserve better”, etc.) and keeps him up at night. But it’s also the thought that makes him hold you tightly to him while you sleep, confident that he would keep you safe while you had your guard down until he, too, succumbed to the blissful darkness alongside you.

H- Honesty: Did/do they ever keep secrets from their partner? Personal? Problems?

High key, I feel like Cloud has a lot of secrets and he is not the type to reveal them or his personal life unless you’d been dating for years. He’s willing to talk about certain things about his past but it makes him uncomfortable and he’s just prefer not to. He isn’t proud of his life experiences, a lot of them made him unhappy, whether the things that happened were his fault or not. When he gets comfortable enough, he’ll slowly open up and answer most of your questions with hand pushing your face into his chest, so that you don’t see his facial expressions. His problems are, in his eyes, his problems alone, so he may mention them if you’re lucky but if you think he’s letting you get involved… he’s not.

J- Jealousy: Are they the jealous type? How do they react? How do they deal with it?

Cloud is 100%, absolutely without a doubt very much the jealous type. Like you could so much as laugh at another person's joke and he'll already be upset on the inside. They seem to have a bubbly exterior anyways, what if you leave him for them? If he’s got a crush on you, he’ll side eye them with a glare and won’t say anything… but if someone is hitting on you or clearly flirting with you and you two are actually dating, he'll wrap an arm around your waist and distract you with something else like “babe, Tifa needs your help.” You’re shocked because he’s not big on PDA but you understand how he feels by the tone of his voice and you play along. At night, he'll get all emotional cs he's tired and will ask you what you thought about that person, hoping dearly that you would deny any feelings of attraction. You comfort him, reminding him of how unbelievably attractive he is, even if he doesn’t know it.

K- Kisses: Are they a good kisser? What was their first kiss like?

The first kiss? You two had separate missions to complete and were unable to see each other for several days!!:( he had a bit of separation anxiety and was so scared to leave you so when he saw you again, his body kinda had a mind of its own and grabbed you when you ran over to kiss him in front of literally everyone. He surprised himself when he kissed you back like it was normal but afterwards he was low key flustered and got reaaaallll quiet >:) at first he isn't a perfect kisser just cs he's new at it but for the first few times, he’s pretty damn good and you’re impressed; so is he. He gets better and better over time and now he's EXPERT. The moment he looks at your lips, you know he’s thinking about it, at the very least. He will follow up with either: 1, a few kisses as long as he’s 100% positively sure that no one is looking. 2, a make out sesh if you’re completely alone. Or 3, he’ll wait until you are alone to put his hands on you. The mere thought of his lips on you has you PUTTY. IN. HIS. HANDS. literally. Like legs weak, arms spaghetti, him telling you to use your legs because you just fucking melt in his arms…

L- Love confession: What was the confession like? How did it happen and who confessed?

Technically the only confession either of you gave or received was that first kiss and you just talked it out after that really awkwardly- I feel like Cloud would NEVER confess his feelings first so he’s so glad it just happened… So maybe you had both thought about it before that and had left things in the air? Maybe you even talked with each other about getting together but like??? Things didn't officially happen until the kiss, because you were both too awkward to properly work things out???

M- Marriage: Do they plan on getting married? How would the proposal go? What would the marriage be like?

This man is set on you and you alone— you're it and the only one he ever intends to be with so to him, marriage is obligatory. He doesn’t care. He doesn't know if it would even work out with how hectic and busy things are nearly at all times, if you two decided you wanted to seal the deal but again, he at least wants to put a permanent ring on your finger eventually. But if you tell him you do want to get married, he wants the proposal to be very private but super special and he wants to do it well. Knowing Cloud, I feel like he would set up a small event like watching the sunset :) If you end up getting properly married, it'll be with like a proper attire for you and MAYBE a tux. It's a hard maybe. Like he'll think about it if you beg him and then you'd have to convince him to get him to happily say yes. It'd probably just be at the 7th Heaven (or a rebuild of it depending on when) and Barret would be the replacement for a priest with Marlene being the little flower girl🥺

N- Nicknames: What do they call their partner?

At first, he just calls you your name or whatever he's always called you. But as you get deeper into the relationship he'll start calling you a shorter version of your name and when he's feeling especially romantic or soft or loving he'll call you babe… I can’t imagine him calling you anything else…

O- Obsession: Are they obsessed or a bit indifferent about their partner and how do they act around them? Are they possessive? Lenient?

So for one, Cloud lets you wear whatever tf you want bc he trusts you completely and ofc there's jealousy and insecurities but he believes genuinely that it's the fault of those who have their eye on you. And I feel like if it just outright ridiculous how revealing your clothing is, he’ll tell you to change or he’ll do it for you. Otherwise, he's not worried ab that stuff. Same thing goes for where you’re going, again ofc there are things that cross lines like going to (strip/night)clubs or whatever it may be, especially when it's without him. That shit scare him especially when you're wearing sexy ass clothes he'll be all, “You’re either bringing tifa or you’re not going.” and he will repeatedly check up on you. When around you in general, Cloud notices he's a lot kinder ab and to everything/one and he kinda likes it???? He feels so comfortable and at peace that there's literally no anger for him to take out (Y'know besides arguments and what not). It all gets dissipates when he sees you enter the vicinity.

P- PDA: Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?

PDA is a big no no. He's knows you know better than to do things like smooching and groping and hooking up in public—that shit has never and will NEVER happen. Big big fat no no. The most affection he'll show is maybe wrapping an arm around your upper body or possibly holding your hand when no one is around. (This has exceptions ofc like being scared, in danger, etc. but otherwise???) If he's in a good mood and no one is looking, he mIGHT consider wrapping you in a tight hug and MAYBE (like he has to be in a stupendous mood and super needy) he’ll even place a kiss on your neck. Again, though, if anyone is looking, not in either of your dreams. But then he'll get super shy and promise himself never to do it again until it happens again in a month. The whole gang along with the old hag knows obviously about your relationship but it's not really a topic that comes up often. Usually it's just "how're you guys doing", "take them out for a date, Cloud, you’re so neglective!" or "I saw that hand hold/kiss, Cloudy poo!" However, he is NO WHERE near shy about announcing your relationship. Why would he? You don’t embarrass him, he’s proud of you two and he won’t let anyone try to get any ideas.

Q- Quirk: A random feature about them that's beneficial to the relationship.

Well probably the fact that he's strong asf is helpful but he'd actually do anything for you so it adds a lot of love and genuinity to the relationship.

R- Romance: How romantic are they? Are they original/classy, creative, cliche? What romantic gestures do they make?

In private he's very... romantically affectionate? Like soft, slow kisses, making love, roses, deep hugs and the most classic, occasional compliments. He tries to be classic and original but in like a unique way? Getting a rose but only one and buying them in different colors with their meanings written on a small card. (leaving it in your room before he leaves for a mission and can't say goodbye) Maybe like the candles you made together rather than the perfectly shaped, store-bought ones everyone uses when he's trying to be a bit more intimate. He's a god damn sweetheart most of the time TT

S- Support: Do they support their s/o and believe in them? Assisting them in achieving their goals?

Yeah, I mean to him whatever you do that would make you worried ab others opinions, to him it's like 'I support you but at the same time it's none of my business because it's not my life' kinda thing. If he thinks it's a bad idea, he'll tell you but back you up no matter what. Like he almost has no opinion at all. If it requires his help, then he'll think about whether he agrees with it in the first place and if he does, he'll help you but otherwise no because he doesn't want to stand by something he doesn't believe in and put attention/time and what not into it. If it’s a general life problem/issue, he’ll always assist you and ask you if he can get involved and help you.

T- Thrill: Do they need to try new things to spice things up? Do they get bored or always enjoy the same stuff?

He will always love the same shit honestly. Like if you want to try something new in a certain aspect of the relationship he'll usually agree to try it depending on what it is but he has never once gotten bored of doing/saying, etc. the same stuff. He can't get enough of you and everything always feels perfect— like he's experiencing it for the first time because he knows how to appreciate you.

U- Understanding: How well do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?

Again, at first he doesn't know what your feeling unless he pays attention. If he's paying good attention in general at the moment, he'll immediately notice and if/when you're alone, he'll let you know his ears are tuned and listening for you, after a long while of comfort. Don't want to talk about it? So be it, that's perfectly okay because he knows how it feels. He's very empathetic and usually understands on a personal level how you're feeling and/or what you’re going through. Cloud is very serious when it comes to comfort/emotions and mental health and doesn't ever joke about it. You always have someone to relate to. Always :)

V- Video AND Value: How are they on film? Do they let their s/o film them? How valuable is the relationship to them?

As for video, Cloud doesn't exactly stop you from filming him… he’ll complain a little (especially if he’s in a serious mood) but anyone else? No chance. When you film him, it’s just that he feels a bit stiff and awkward because he doesn't know what to do. If your just filming to vlog or capture a small moment to look back on he'll be friendly and only really talk if he's talked to or has something to bring up. Since you're being silly, he feels more relaxed and can act normal, maybe even comfortable in front of the camera over time. (In a modern au) He falls for honestly most tik tok pranks/challenges, though there are ones where you can’t get him— though eventually he expects them or sometimes suspects you're joking around. Videos like pregnancy, miscarriage, death or breakup pranks? Not funny and not okay, don't do it. You know better anyways, if you’re in a relationship with him. Pulling pranks like those can easily result in arguments and/or Cloud being very upset with you for a few days.

As for value- you're his number one and although he hates to admit it, saving the world has to tie with you. If he saves the world, he saves you and a future with you. So practically everything is done for you in one way or another. And if not, he’s thinking about how his decisions may affect you.

W- Wild Card: A random fluff head cannon!

Low key he aDORES IT when you gently play with his earring and/or pull at his hair, he will literally ascend to cloud 9, don't fuck around he may very well turn bright red and then knock out like a toddler off the tit.

Y- Yearning: How long can they go w/o seeing their partner? How do they cope with loneliness when away from their s/o?

Again, this is normal but after more than a week, he gets real anxious and antsy and scared and nervous and quiet and sad and misses you and AHHHH don't leave him alone for too long pls he misses you :( has a little bit of separation anxiety but will hold a pillow to try to replace your warmth? <:) but it never cuts it, sleeping alone fucking sucks. Probably can't go more than a month without seeing you without starting to actually not being able to sleep at night and losing his appetite. The one time he did go on a month long mission with Avalanche, you stayed behind because you were injured. Not only was he losing sleep with anxiety over your safety but after approximately three weeks, the gang noticed him not eating and they literally had to return early just because he wasn’t taking care of himself. It’s not like it’s a protest or anything, he knows he has to be there but his anxiety is worse than just a little hunger after a few weeks. And when Avalanche tells him to eat and sleep more, he insists he just doesn’t want to. It’s when they notice the deep bags under his eyes and his thinning frame that they return. He does not object by any means, he’s ready before anyone else. When he returns, he spends all of his time with you and can’t keep his hands to himself ✋

Z- Zeal: Are they willing to go to great lenghts for the relationship? If so, what kind of?

He would do anything for you, he'd die for you, kill for you, lie for you, cry for you. You literally are Cloud's everything so it's only natural the best deserves the best. You would do the same for him, though you’ll never tell him that.

would you happen to have any advice for people who are not so good at job interviews? im looking for a job right now and the interview stage is kicking my ass

If you can, try to pinpoint as exactly as you can the exact kind of a person they're looking for this job. I admit I've mostly interviewed for factory and industrial jobs, and they don't look for anything sophisticated, just someone who doesn't slack from work or make it some sort of a personal goal to always get the easiest jobs/get away with doing as little as possible. When you're asked things about yourself, list things that match that description - don't lie, just sample out the things that are true that align.

My ADHD ass can't stand being idle, and combined with the anxiety, I'll rather pick literally any task than be without anything to do. While my first workplace was a place with a high turnover and their hiring process was more or less "just throw in every fuck that thinks they can take it, the work itself will weed out the weak", I had no summer jobs or any kind of formal work experience in my CV before it. I talked about having a strong work ethic because I was simply raised that way - I was there carrying bricks when my mother built her house (which, though true, how would they have verified random anecdotes?) and that I will do any given task right if I know how to do it right, and if I did it wrong, I'll simply do it twice.

If they ask you about flaws or some "what's your biggest weakness" sort of thing, be specific, name one specific, work-related thing that you know you tend to do, and then explain what you've learned to do in order to avoid doing that - or to avoid doing it as often. They're not looking for someone with the smallest possible flaws, they want to know if you're able to evaluate yourself fairly and honestly, or at the very least that you're someone who is capable of admitting they have made a mistake.

As a go-to, I'll name my habit of picking up tasks that I wasn't formally instructed to do yet because I ran out of my own tasks, I've seen someone else do it, it looked simple enough, and nobody else had done it yet, often because it didn't cross my instructor's mind that I would have to be specifically told not to just go ahead and do it. I can word it lightly, making a joke that at least they wouldn't have to worry about me being idle, I'll start doing work that I shouldn't be doing unless someone stops me. I'll leave out the part where I might have actually endangered people by doing this.

Giving yourself vague praise is both hard to do and hard to hear, it's better to take the flaws you know you have and tilt them upside-down. I suck at understanding and remembering long and complicated instructions, so I stress that I never make a mistake when I understand the task, and I do better when I know why specific things must be done in a specific way.

They never ask "and how often does that happen?" because surely someone who can specifically describe the conditions where they manage not to fuck things up isn't also someone who has survived in life through trial-and-error guesswork and almost died a few times doing that.

There's no need to lie - you just need to know what they want to hear, and cherry pick the truths that match the description.
