OFFtober Day 9 - "Fangames/AU" So many fangames I love, so little time! I decided to doodle up some characters I particularly enjoy from just a handful of the fangames I've played. Wish I could draw everyone tho
Tate and Cinnamon Glaze from RISE The villain and the hero! I like how they both are wearing their ties weird. Tate is wearing a t-shirt and just has the tie directly around his neck. Cracks me up!
Buttons and Doux from ONE The living toy and it's owner! I find it so funny that Buttons often tanks more enemy attacks since it's the second party member, and RPGmaker is just like that. In my head it's because Buttons would do anything to protect Doux in Zacharie's absence ;0;
Puppeteer and Seneca from UNKNOWN The hero and the villain! I just adore these two's designs, they're classic. The design is the only thing I like about Seneca tho, diabolical little thing XD
Daren and Danny from START The scarred twins, I love them so much. They deserve to be happy, and I get all teary-eyed when I think about Daren specifically. I like that they both use knives as their weapons, so I included one in the drawing that Daren's holding.
Pilot and Navigator from CONFINIUM These two,, lord do I adore them. CONFINIUM is such a gorgeous game, and the care put into Pilot and Nav's designs and dynamic is obvious. I enjoy these sillies and this game so much.
Anthony and The Mechanic from ALIVE Just obsessed with the creativity involved in making these two characters. Mechanic is so fun to draw, and I really enjoy Anthony's story. I wanna give the shy guy a big hug.

A Long Rant About The Koffin Trio
Note: So, this is my first (really) long post about this fangame, and to be honest, I was debating whether or not to even publish it. I still decided to do it since not a lot of folks talk about ts!underswap, and I wanted to give my two cents regarding my three favorite characters.
More important note: If you think it's gonna trigger you to read about Harry/Larry and Harry/Larry/KK as a found family, better click off this post. Maybe it's my inner aroace speaking, but I personally don't see the romantic appeal at all. Good for you if you do! I'm not trying to invalidate anyone's opinion; diversity is great after all :)
For those of you who are still here, I will start off by saying this:
Harry and Larry depend on Count Koffin-K for so much. I'm tempted to say EVERYTHING.
He genuinely feels like their father figure. I mean, this sentient fedora gave them a job while they were both living lives that were... bad.
He isn't cruel when they do something stupid and instead just looks deadpan. Sure, Koffin-K's not a perfect boss; he yells at the two of them and insults them (dude really needs to work on his temper), but I found it sweet how both Harry and Larry felt safe enough to tell him the truth here, which to me counts for something (pun intended) ↓
Tumblr media
He even pranks them sometimes ↓
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Koffin may not be perfect (he's gotta keep up the "evil" persona) but at least he 1) tries to give Harry and Larry a hint that he cares for them (has them both secretly do his laundry without them telling each other) 2) actually admits that he cares for them both equally (in his own way) 3) attempts to solve their disagreement despite him not gaining anything out of it
How they met is also interesting to me.
Based on their backstory, Harry and Larry were clearly hesitant to work for Koffin, but when they actually started the job the next day, I imagine that their conversation went something like this (either during the first day or at some point early on in their career):
H: "Larry, he could be like the dad we never had and provide for us and we could have all da money that we never did, see?"
L: "Huhuhu, yeah! Don't forgets da food!"
...and that's how the parade float came to be. I think Koffin secretly appreciates they made it, even though he says how he wanted the thing "as far away as possible" right after saying this line ↓
Tumblr media
He also makes this face later on at the festival when he sees the float again cause it reminds him that the three of them are a family despite Harry and Larry getting on his nerves half the time but I can't include the screenshot bc of the picture limit
Heck, the two even built their house outside the keep, which to me suggests that they don’t ever plan on leaving Koffin.
Harry does mention his mother, and we learn that he's into embroidery (both making me think he's a a 'mama's boy'; maybe she taught him how to embroider)...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...but even on the ts!us wiki, the only relationship dynamic the two have is with Koffin-K himself.
Weirdly enough, we only know that Harry has a mom, but not a dad
Tumblr media
Even though he was definitely unaware of this, Koffin liked Harry and Larry FOR BEING THEMSELVES. This is really important to me.
He saw something in them that others did not, even if it was initally just "your names rhyme and you give me the 'goofy henchmen' vibe." He sees them both as useful for what he needs them for. It may not be much, but it's exactly what Koffin's looking for.
In other words:
THE WAY HARRY AND LARRY ARE IS ENOUGH FOR COUNT KOFFIN-K. I mean, why look at resumes of competent potential employees when you can hire two idiots who are just as goofy as you
Exactly why Harry and Larry are so loyal to Koffin-K is unknown, but based on my interpretation, it has to do with 1) them desperately needing a father figure/someone to rely on 2) Koffin giving Harry and Larry a home, food, money, and a job that also allows them to slack off and finally enjoy life, and 3) him making them feel needed. Maybe not appreciated, even though he subtly tried to, but definitely needed. Serving under him became their purpose.
In other words, I think they're so loyal because Koffin "chose" them, even if he did that subconsciously.
Harry got the chance to be more than just a janitor. Imo, he was hesitant to work for Koffin at first because he was afraid that he would lose the only sense of security he had. I think he lived with his mom at the time, considering his low-wage job This explains why he wants to be rich (to make up for all the things he couldn't afford).
It also explains why Larry loves food so much (he literally slept under a dumpster bag and if he was both homeless AND unemployed, it would mean that he had to either be a beggar or eat from the trash. Either way, eating good food was out of the question.
It's also possible that Larry had a janitor job just like Harry (but unlike him, nowhere to live). I say that he might have been a janitor, since Koffin mentions how they could both do better than mopping floors forever, but maybe it was just an assumption on Koffin's side.
Whatever the case, their lives sucked.
There was also this one moment I wanna talk about, where Larry called Koffin-K stupid, and Harry pretty much agreed. So I asked myself why they reacted this way.
Tumblr media
Maybe because it was easier to convince themselves that they didn't care about their boss than deal with the fact that he (maybe) always saw them as nothing but 'lowly servants'.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seriously, Harry said out loud what they both wanted most of all. And that something was for Koffin-K to value them. This was more important to them than money and food COMBINED, considering their entire arc was about learning that Koffin needed them both equally
Maybe they were worried about getting fired, but I honestly don't think Koffin ever wanted to do that to them, no matter how many times they messed up.
Maybe they didn't want to be honest and admit to Koffin that he's a total dumbass so they wouldn't get in trouble with him. I mean, they did want to gain his validation/appreciation/approval/love, so it makes sense that they would do anything to get and remain in his good books.
I think the third scenario is the most likely one, tbh.
Tumblr media
Might be a nitpick, but notice how Harry and Larry are walking next to each other here, but Koffin-K's at the back, just sorta... isolated, like he's not their equal? This is why I'd rather see him as their father figure than an older brother. The way I look at it, the oldest sibling is usually in charge, yeah, but there's still a level of closeness and familiarity between the siblings, whereas Harry and Larry hardly know anything about Koffin-K, ESPECIALLY how lonely he really is. Koffin's the one who gave them a purpose, became their boss, and as a result, they began looking up to him. In contrast, the two spend 24/7 together, bicker, and are practically inseparable, like brothers
Larry also explains how Koffin-K doesn't like leaving his study, but clearly neither Harry nor Larry reflected on why that is and just assumed it's because Koffin's 'stupid.' This reaction kinda rubbed me the wrong way at first, but then I remembered both of these dudes are street rats who don't know any better.
Look, I know the Boogiemen were supposed to fit this common "goofy villain's sidekicks" trope, but both of them clearly grew up in poor conditions, have daddy issues (imo), and feel worthless/useless.
That's why they want Koffin-K's attention so badly.
They need a father figure to reassure them that they're useful, important, and loved.
All this makes them three-dimensional and relatable, just like most UT/DR/UTY characters. It feels like everyone in these games goes through some kind of deep arc, and I feel like this is supposed to be the Boogiemen's
Sure, Harry and Larry are funny at first glance, and they're great at being comic reliefs, but at their core, they are misguided guys who come from poverty/homelessness. I kinda wish the feisty four from uty had more going for them just so I could psychoanalyze them all
Even though it's probably been a few years since they joined Koffin, at least some part of Harry and Larry doesn't seem to believe that they can finally enjoy themselves, even if it means doing hooligan stuff and boring chores. That's why they're 'superficial' and goof off and will grab any opportunity to act childish and materialistic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A typical case of age regression
What lies beyond the surface is incredibly sad to me.
Now, this is sort of like a bonus section bc I want to explain WHY exactly I see Harry & Larry as brothers, and WHY I think they see Koffin as a dad again, maybe it's bc I'm aroace and I see family relationships everywhere, but the stuff below REALLY REALLY reminds me of these types of dynamics:
Tumblr media
They threw insults at each other and had a literal fistfight over which one of them Koffin appreciated/liked more
Tumblr media
They cried HARD (of joy) when Koffin told them they're both equally useful and useless, so they no longer had to be at each other's throats. He also said how he recognized that they're passionate about being his lackeys, even if their teamwork needed, well, work
Tumblr media
I think it's sweet how they built the float 'within their first days of henchmenry,' according to KK. They could have easily NOT included him, but had apparently warmed up to him pretty soon
Tumblr media
Harry wanted to call Koffin to save them + I love how he's CERTAIN he'll do it
Tumblr media
Both yelled for Koffin (reminds me of Axis calling out for Chujin for some reason)
Tumblr media
Larry called Koffin Keep their home (could have easily said that they left it at the keep...reminds me of the times Starlo called The Wild East Clover's home I really need to stop with the uty parallels)
Tumblr media
They cheered for him (and got hit in the face with books)
Tumblr media
They get in trouble with him
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They apparently copied two of his attacks these 3 are so similar except that Koffin is a more 'head in the clouds' kind of goofy while Harry & Larry are more grounded... but still goofy
Tumblr media
And this line... "And quit arguing, you two!" sounded so parental, istg
I forgot to mention some stuff:
After Koffin tells everyone to go to the festival, Harry and Larry quickly look left and right, like they're wondering where he is and/or what to do now that he isn't there. Poor guys really are dependent on him and like to be in his presence
They talked about Koffin a LOT throughout this game. Their conversations are either about 1) Koffin and what they're gonna do to please him, 2) Them bickering, or 3) Some shenanigans they get themselves into. Larry even remembers how Koffin-K always says: "If you're slacking, put some hustle into it"
Koffin doesn't treat any other lackey the way he does Harry and Larry, and none of the other lackeys seek his admiration like the two do
Harry and Larry were both jealous af of Chara for getting all the attention (right after they got into Koffin's study Harry said "Now whaddya need us in here for, see?" and I immediately thought that he wanted to add "you have a new favorite child lacky now so why don't assign more chores TO THEM")
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like I'm not sure if they were meant to come across to us players as a family but for some reason that's how they came across to me since day 1
The actual reason why I see them in this light is not just bc I love found family (even tho I do. a lot), but bc I feel like it would give Harry & Larry more depth than a romance between any of them

HELLO??? THE SPRITES??
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS SASSY FUCKER, UNDYNE TOLD THEM "SURRENDER YOUR SOUL" AND KRIS WAS LIKE "Okay but actually what about no", I HAVE SOOO MANY COMIC IDEAS THANKS TO THIS SECTION I'M PAUSING MY UNDERTALE RIBBON COMIC BECAUSE I JUST H A V E TO GET THEM DONE
Ejem
I believe Kris wasn't even planning to actually surrender their soul because they now they're gonna die anyways, they just did this to scare off Undyne and get time to play teather kid, do their little cool speech and jump into the new unknown world fully knowing Susie and Noelle will follow
I really like their take on Kris here and I also like how, in the fangame, they're getting more and more control of themselves after talking with Susie and Noelle, they got their eye and started to emote more I love how they took action and just jumped onto Sans, I would've killed him if it wasn't for the lore, going back to kill him tomorrow
They didn't put the soul back on before jumping so I believe we're not controlling Kris for a little part in section 4, or maybe they will talk with us, I'm REALLY looking forward to the next update!

I would love to see a Touhou fangame that is like. Typical Touhou fare, but EVERY CHARACTER is just the first stage bosses. Not even 'the characters who are first stage bosses', no, it is just the characters who never got to be anything other than first stage bosses. That does mean Nazrin and Seiran don't get a shot thanks to Touhou 19 but that just leaves room for other characters. Like, I have IDEAS about this.
...Ah screw it I'm gonna babble about my ideas now.
Darkness has fallen over Gensokyo. The summer sun seems to be nowhere in sight, and people are wondering when it will end. So in other words, just a normal Tuesday at first.
But as time goes on, people realize that all the normal incident resolvers, and even some of the less consistent incident resolvers, are nowhere to be found, as if their light has also been sucked dry. And at the same time, the lack of sunlight brings with it a terrible chill...
In the state of panic that results from this, some unlikely heroes rise to the occasion to figure out what caused this Unnatural Draining Shadow.
Playable Cast:
"Well-Equipped Mermaid" Wakasagihime
Without light or heat, the lakes and rivers are in danger of freezing over! With the assistance of Kappas from upriver and the information granted by the Grassroots Youkai Network, Wakasagihime is hoping to catch the culprit by surprise by travelling along the waterways of Gensokyo. Will this odd strategy be able to wash over the culprit, or will she end up dead in the water when the time comes?
-
"Withering Symbol of Plenty" Minoriko Aki
With the early chill brought on by the shadows, the very harvest itself is threatened, which is a bit of a problem for a harvest goddess like Minoriko. She has decided to work together with her sister Shizuha to end the incident and ensure autumn and the harvest will come. Will she last long enough to see her efforts bear fruit, or will they wither on the vine?
-
"A Bug of Light Wriggling in the Dark" Wriggle Nightbug
Wriggle doesn't really mind the darkness, actually. As a firefly, she can create her own light whenever she wants. However, that same light has given her an opportunity. In her mind, if she can use her light to solve the incident, she'll be able to prove the importance of insects once and for all. Will her plan prove its brilliance, or will her meagre light end up being squashed?
-
The Game Itself:
Stage 1: Foothills of Youkai Mountain.
Just because our heroines have a goal doesn't mean they have a direction. For one reason or another, they all end up at the Foothills of Youkai Mountain - Wakasagihime just got herself equipped, Minoriko was hoping to get some insight from other smaller gods, and Wriggle was just wandering about picking fights. In any case, they spot Mike Goutokuji skulking about. As a cat, she can see even in low light. After beating her up, they learn that she has nothing to do with the incident. However, she did overhear someone mentioning seeing a strange shadow near the entrance to Hell. With that lead in hand, the three head off to their next destination.
-
Stage 2: Sai no Kawara
To get to hell, the three heroines each decide to go along the Sanzu river. On the way, they come across a local god, Eika Ebisu. Whether it's because they knocked over a stack of stones by accident (Wakasagihime), they want to get information from her (Minoriko), or just general combativeness (Wriggle), they end up coming to blows. When the dust settles, Eika reveals that there haven't been any shadows in the area after all. So, she reasons, if there are no shadows in new hell, then perhaps the entrance to Old Hell might have what the three are looking for. Oh boy...
-
Stage 3: Fantastic Blowhole
Not long after taking the plunge into the earth, The heroines are accosted by Kisume, agitated beyond her normal aggression for unknown reasons. Not long after, they come across a similarly irritated Yamame Kurodani, of whom Wriggle is particularly terrified. Nevertheless, the chosen heroine pacifies the spider, Gensokyo-style. Yamame reveals that she spotted a ball of darkness just before the incident started, but was able to see a youkai in a black dress within. She also shows them the source of her irritation: a red ribbon, with the faint dregs of a powerful seal still emanating from it.
-
Stage 4: Near the Human Village.
With the weather only getting colder and no direction, the heroine decides to go to the Human Village, both to warm up and to hopefully get a tip as to where to go next. However, they are waylaid by one of the other three protagonists. Wakasagihime assumes Wriggle caused the incident to get an advantage with her light, Minoriko sees Wakasagihime's mechanical equipment and assumes that she is launching an attack on the human village under the cover of darkness, and Wriggle... Just wants to fight Minoriko. After the fight, the protagonist wonders to herself if the ribbon that she's carrying is still increasing the aggression of those around her. However, she is interrupted from her musing by a sudden chill...
-
Stage 5: Deep Mountains
The heroines follow the chill to its source, thinking it might lead them to the mysterious, black-dressed shadow. Instead, they come across Letty Whiterock, awoken early by the sunless chill. She would be happy to see the incident over and was waiting for it to get cold enough that she could solve it herself (or so she claims), but she doubts the heroine could be strong enough to defeat the true culprit. After all, she says, it was able to catch the usual incident solvers by surprise and consume a part of their light, with Letty removing what will they had left to make sure they didn't get themselves killed. Terrified but determined, the heroine defeats Letty who, impressed by their strength, directs them to the cause of the incident.
-
Stage 6: Skies over Gensokyo
Finally, after fighting off Letty one more time to prove your mettle, your choice of heroine comes face to face with the true culprit.
"Awoken Youkai of the Night" Rumia EX.
Without the red ribbon acting as a seal on her power, Rumia has regained her full power as the embodiment of Gensokyo's night. However, the power is too much for her, and has driven her insane. She threatens to consume the heroine whole but, undaunted, she stands her ground and fights her off, at first intending to merely weaken her so that the seal could be reapplied. To the surprise of even the heroine however, they are fully able to pacify the mad night Youkai without even needing the seal. Lucky for them, as it had lost most of its power.
Having regained her right mind, Rumia agrees to lift the shadows and return the light of the normal incident resolvers, though she says it will take time.
Everything seems to have been solved, but there are still some questions. Why did the seal lose its power in the first place? And how were the heroines able to beat Rumia at the height of her power?
-
Extra Stage: Fantastic Blowhole
With too many questions and no answer, the heroines decide to return to the scene of the crime. After fighting off Kisume, who is now at her normal levels of aggression, the heroines notice an immense power source close by. They follow it to find someone they could never have expected.
"Reborn Butterfly God" Eternity Larva
Having drained the powerful seal on Rumia as an accident, Eternity Larva has some steam to blow off. With all the normal opponents unavailable, she challenges the protagonist to a battle. Who will win?
Idk, it isn't a real game at the moment, and I have no clue how to make it one.

it has occurred to me that i've never actually explained what zampanio. is? here
like, i reblog things with zampanio all the time, but i've never actually explained what that means lol
so ok uhhhhhhh 5 am crimson rambles go
ok. so there's this game, from like, the 70s or 80s i think, called zampanio. no one knows what it's really ABOUT besides that it's supposedly really fucking weird. there's also no documentation about it too far in the past, because apparently stuff about this has a tendency to just. disappear. and the people that KNOW a lot about it seem to either vanish or fly off the fucking handle. which is already wacky enough. but, like, the main thing about zampanio is that since the source material is so unknown beyond, like, the vaguest vibes, there's a billion different unrelated fangames about it with nothing in common besides some vague thematic elements? like, there's zampaniosim, which is this massive sprawling network of god knows what that has like, twenty billion different fictional characters from other games in it i think? i heard something about magnus archives and lobotomy corp and i don't understand most of it but it seems very cool. and there's also some rpg maker game someone made called zam2anio? and i played it for like 10 minutes and it's incomprehensible but in the best way. and there's also this discord server that is like, also a puzzle or something? and that's its own thing? and also leads into other things, maybe??? it's insane. but the really cool part is that since the source material is just. Not. you can kinda just go hog wild with different things in different fandoms and have it still be A Zampanio Thing. i'm currently retooling a mario fanfic i came up with literally in elementary school into A Zampanio Thing. it doesn't matter what fandom you're in, you caj make it zampanio. it's genuinely very cool and unique and i like it a lot. i'm not very caught up on a lot of the individual things people have been making but the vibes are immaculate and it ends up making this massive nonsense patchwork of a fandom that somehow all fits together, and just, it's the best
so yeah, go check out zampanio if you haven't already, look it up, play/read/look at some of the stuff people have made, maybe make your own zampanio thing if you wanna, you won't regret it. probably. unless you turn into a monster or something, except actually if you did you probably wouldn't regret it anyway because you'd be a monster so whatever

Pokémon Reborn Screenshot Let's Play: Chapter 40
Tumblr media
Well, I can say I’ve more or less adjusted to my new schedule- doesn’t mean I don’t get a little tired after coming home, though. Despite that, the reason for this chapter’s specific delay actually had nothing to do with job stuff!
See, the new 19.5.5 update for Reborn came out, so I of course updated my game for it. But…well, I seemed to have forgotten how updating fangames works, I did it wrong and my game wouldn’t open, and it took a helpful reminder from someone in the troubleshooting topic in the forums for me to realize my mistake. On one hand, I’m grateful it was a simple matter of human error and not something worse (like my laptop being old and weird), but on the other hand the play session was put off by a whole day because of that blunder. But hey, it’s not like this is the first time I’ve made embarrassing and easily avoidable mistakes in the course of this playthrough.
Regardless, everything worked out, I recovered from the psychic damage I took from my foolishness, and here we are! There’s…I mean, I’m not entirely sure where this chapter could go aside from a few basic points. But I sure as heck remember where the last chapter went, and that’s what I’m gonna recap right now!
While training to take on Serra, several of Xera’s Pokémon evolved, namely: Vulcan into Pignite and Emboar, Frost into Vanillish and Vanilluxe, and Rumble into Scrafty.
Xera makes her way through the mirror-clad rooms of the Voclain Estate, eventually coming across Bennett and El again. Bennett explains that he plans to be a Gym Leader himself some day, and to train for that he asks all of his mother’s challengers for a battle, and so he does the same with Xera.
Xera defeats Bennett in a hard-fought battle, and El praises the two Trainers’ skill. He then tells Bennett has the potential to go much further than being a Gym Leader- with his skill, he could become a member of the Elite Four. El insinuates he could help Bennett reach such a position, and Bennett eagerly follows him to discuss the details elsewhere.
Xera arrives at the Gym arena proper to challenge Serra, with El and Bennett watching in the stands. After another challenging fight reflected by the mirrors of the arena, Xera barely manages to achieve victory.
El takes Bennett outside to continue their prior conversation away from prying ears; at the same time, Serra awards Xera with the Rime Badge. Suddenly, the mansion is shaken by another tremor, and Serra goes out to investigate- just in case another building was teleported on top of her house.
Outside, El tells Bennett will need to give him his full compliance if he is to be introduced to the Elite Four. As such, he immediately asks Bennett to reveal what he really knows about Luna’s whereabouts, as he knows the boy was not being fully honest before.
Bennett admits Luna mentioned a place called Vanhanen Castle; when further asked by El, he also confirms Luna had with her an Emerald Brooch, which was given to her by El some time ago. With this new information, El is immediately ready to leave and practically orders Bennett to follow, barely giving the boy enough time to say goodbye to his mother before the two leave.
As Xera and Serra rest in the living room, Serra explains the PokéMart has teleported away at last, although where it was sent to is unknown. She also explains Bennett having left to study to join the Elite Four, feeling rather indifferent despite being his mother. Regardless, she sends Xera on her way to track down the PokéMart.
Xera finds the PokéMart far away from Spinel Town, all the way near the entrance to Tanzan Mountain. She is finally able to buy some Herbal Extract, and leaves the Mart to bring it back to the Belrose Manse at long last.
And so, the quest for life-saving medicine ends in success! All it took was waiting for teleportation gimmicks to kick in and defeating an entire Gym Leader! Needless to say, it was a pretty big day for Xera, and…well, it might get even bigger, I don’t really know. I know we’re probably gonna be giving the medicine to Anna, but after that…I’m not sure. I mean, there’s still the unsolved mysteries of Spinel Town’s teleportations and the earthquakes, and at least one of those is sure to come to a head sooner or later- I still think Team Meteor’s responsible, but there still hasn’t been any confirmation for my paranoia.
But, the only way to see where the story goes next is to actually keep playing! Now that my technical issues have been fixed, there’s no reason to hold off, so let’s do it!

Ghost really is like a Asian mascot. Even the official sources treat them like one (see Fangamer Japan's exclusive merch of them!). Heck, Ghost even looks like one San-X (Japanese company that makes mascots to sell in merch) franchise of mascots. Sentimental Circus! Check them out on Google and I promise you the semblance is uncanny. That's why I agree that Ghost not only doesn't look, nor act like a child. They look like a adorable mascot character. Even a pokemon lol. And mascot characters aren't always kids. Some are literally just creature with unknown origins. Rilakkuma for instance, is hinted to simply be a... costume... a man in a costume... or just a costume come to life. Japanese mascots have such varied backgrounds! So don't be surprised when a lot of Asian people don't really see Ghost as one.
That's really informative anon, thank you for telling me! I genuinely had no idea about it (and now feel really bad because goddamn I was an ass. Like, we already know that, but fuck dude). It does give me a lot of insight into why people might have that interpretation of them and has unironically helped me understand a lot of fanart that sort of blew over my head before. Like, straight-up I didn't understand why chibi characters were a popular thing until now, which is embarrassing to admit to- I thought it was just a quick way of drawing a character in a cute manner vs like, a wholeass art style. In which case, yes, Ghost fits that criteria exactly.
As context for why I didn't make that connection at all: I had zero information about how mascots worked in Asian countries, that they were actual characters and that there was a preset understanding that they aren't child-coded because of proportions. I knew that they existed, but I assumed that they were more like branding mascots and sports mascots (which I also don't know about jsyk, so I'm probably sticking my foot in my mouth here), where they're just a face to stick a name to for better recognition of that company or team, ie designs that have no actual characters to them and thus no meaning beyond 'product' or 'sports team'. I was also working off of the (very westernized) art idea that certain proportions were used to indicate ages instead of it being a stylistic choice, which further limited my understanding. That there's way more to it and a far different perspective is super cool
Either way though, I appreciate the insight and thank you for explaining it to me! It opened my eyes to a new perspective on art and I will be sure to remember it in the future.

Potential old lore about Louis working at the library (the added comment from a dead account is from Bandit/Louis' creator. That's the old user for anyone who didn't know)
I hope the library at least has those braille books..
