Miss Universe South Africa 2023 National Costume
This year's national costume is an African-Indian fusion and a celebration of Bryoni Govender's heritage. It was inspired by a sari and is adorned with traditional Zulu beads in a pattern inspired by an Ndebele print.

EASTON, Windenburg (SNN) - - Queen Katherine attended the Beacon Gala last night, an event not originally on Her Majesty's calendar. The gala is thrown annually by the Royal Arts Foundation and ends with a highly-anticipated auction.
The Queen not only attended but met some new Windenburg "royalty", and introduced the gala's Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Juliana Jackson.
Tumblr media
Queen Katherine and Jackson have been friends for many years and upon hearing of Jackson as the honoree, accepted an invitation. The pair, along with the Prince consort, entered the gala together and were seen mingling with guests.
Her Majesty wore the Queen of Silk gown by @mssims and paired it with the Lucille tiara and diamond choker. Choosing to wear only the Royal Orders of George I and the Order of the Garter, Her Majesty wanted to highlight the gown. The palace confirmed the African print was a nod to her maternal grandmother, Princess Niema of Zulu, who recently died.
Tumblr media
Queen Katherine also met Miss Windenburg, Katurah Stewart, the gala's Young Achievers Award recipient.
Stewart wore a green Celebrate gown by @mssims and donned her Miss Windenburg crown.
Tumblr media
Katurah, who won the Miss Windenburg crown in January, also took home the Miss Universe Sims crown last week becoming an overnight star and catapulting her into demand.
The 21 year old represented the nation competing against 41 other countries to win the 2024 crown.
Tumblr media
The Balsimore native is the first woman, and African-American, to win Miss Universe Sims and Miss Windenburg at the same time, and much of her platform is about embracing your culture through the Arts.
Tumblr media
She is an eco-friendly fashion designer, model, and classical vocal instructor based in Easton, and is a voice for African-Americans, opening the door for more diversity and representation in the Arts society.
Tumblr media
Miss Universe chatted with the Prince consort, discussing collective initiatives. As patron of the Royal Arts Foundation, Prince Rainier will be working closely with the new Miss Windenburg.
Tumblr media
Queen Katherine spoke to the gala attendees and introduced Juliana Jackson, before partaking in the gala's final festivities.
Tumblr media
Her Majesty joined in on the auction, where all proceeds go to support the Gala's charity.
Tumblr media
The palace confirmed Her Majesty bid on, and won, the Mary Beth of Gibralsim’s Diamond bandeau and a pink diamond ring. Estimated at §1.1m simoleons, they are said to be gifts for her daughter, Princess Grace.

A-T-4 147 Cut Ups & Megamixes
No posts for a while because I've not been well (plus I fell down a rabbit hole writing a long read, hopefully that'll be done by the end of the year!)
1984 was a great year for Cut Ups and Megamixes building on the work of pioneer DJs like Shep Pettibone and his radio show on Kiss FM, Chuck Chillout and Red Alert also on Kiss, the Latin Rascals on WKTU, Marley Marl on WBLS's Mr Magic's Rap Attack. Outside New York carving their own path Hot Mix 5 and Steve "Silk" Hurley are killing it on Chicago radio station WBMX. In Florida the crew Jam Pony Express have begun playing live shows
In the UK Sanny-X is DMC's megamixer and Street Sounds Electro series are being mixed by Herbie Laidley, better known as Mastermind Herbie, the man behind The Rapologists
This is post Double Dee & Steinski, Malcom McLaren And The World’s Famous Supreme Team, Art Of Noise, and Herbie Hancock's Rockit. You can clearly hear their influence in the cut ups and mega mixes from this year
Getting mixed is Hip Hop, Electro, Synth Pop, Disco, and Italo
youtube
(Orig.) Big Apple Production Vol.II - Genius At Work like many of these bootleg megamixes the people involved stay in the shadows. This one is of course the work of the Latin Rascals doing what they did on their radio show
youtube
DJ Chuck Chillout - Hip Hop On Wax Vol. I for Vincent Davis's Vintertainment. Chuck Chillout was in The B Boys who had released the cut up track Cuttin Herbie (literally cutting up Rockit) the year before. They also released two other classics in 1983 imo Rock The House and Two, Three, Break. Chillout would return to Two, Three, Break under the name DJ Born Supreme Allah in 1985 with the more explicit cut up Two, Three, Break (Part II - The Sequel)
youtube
DJ Red Alert - Hip Hop On Wax Vol. II Red Alert goes berserk on the follow-up to Chuck Chillout's effort - he even cuts in what sounds like The B Boys. Sorry this is the best Youtube clip I can find. Red Alert is a DJ for the disgraced hip hop architect Afrika Bambaataa's Universal Zulu Nation and in 1983 he joined Kiss FM's Master Mix Party, which was originally Shep Pettibone's spot on Kiss. Tony Humphries was the first to take the ropes from the increasingly busy Pettibone and in 1983 Red Alert would alternate with Humphries
youtube
D.ST - Megamix II: Why Is It Fresh? The Grand Mixer who provided the scratching on Herbie Hancock's Rockit. I thought I knew what Megamix II was a sequel of but now I'm not so sure. Anyway D.ST brings together his hits along with half a dozen other Celluloid tracks
youtube
Z Rock Records - Scratch Party #2 first of three mixes coming from the West Coast. Z Rock Records released three Scratch Party megamixes in 1984. Who knows who put these together
youtube
Ian Darby - Break City 7" edit bonkers record by Bobby Orlando who had been trying his hand at hip hop/electro/Art Of Noise style production. There's a longer 12" version but the 7" is tidier. Not really cut up, certainly not a megamix, but I felt it sat alright on this list because of it's nutball samples
youtube
Scratchmatic - Sound Of The Street by DJ Antron who Discogs tells me won the first DJ Battle held in Los Angeles at the famous Radiotron event. It shows a preference for the techno style
youtube
New York Scratch Masters - Scratchmasters Jam #1 the Italo the mix begins with is more like what Hot Mix 5 were doing in Chicago but not as good. Jam #1 would be followed by three more in 1984 and the final Jam #5 in 85. Jam # 4 (The Rap) is pretty great
youtube
Mix-Trix #3 The Break Mixer the first Mix-Trix 12" was released in 1983 with another three coming in 1984. Apart from it coming out of LA I have no info on these

Marley Marl on Mr Magic's Rap Attack in 1984

History: Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s First Black President, Is Inaugurated
On May 9, 1994, South Africa’s newly elected parliament chose Nelson Mandela to be the country’s first Black president.
Tumblr media
In South Africa, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela is sworn in as the first Black president of South Africa. In his inaugural address, Mandela, who spent 27 years of his life as a political prisoner of the South African government, declared that “the time for the healing of the wounds has come.” Two weeks earlier, more than 22 million South Africans had turned out to cast ballots in the country’s first-ever multiracial parliamentary elections. An overwhelming majority chose Mandela and his African National Congress (ANC) party to lead the country.
Mandela, born in 1918, was the son of the chief of the Xhosa-speaking Tembu people. Instead of succeeding his father as chief, Mandela went to university and became a lawyer. In 1944, he joined the African National Congress (ANC), a Black political organization dedicated to winning rights for the Black majority in white-ruled South Africa. In 1948, the racist National Party came to power, and apartheid—South Africa’s institutionalized system of white supremacy and racial segregation—became official government policy. With the loss of Black rights under apartheid, black enrollment in the ANC rapidly grew. Mandela became one of the ANC’s leaders and in 1952 was made deputy national president of the ANC. He organized nonviolent strikes, boycotts, marches and other acts of civil disobedience.
After the massacre of peaceful Black demonstrators at Sharpeville in 1960, Nelson helped organize a paramilitary branch of the ANC to engage in acts of sabotage against the white minority government. He was tried for and acquitted of treason in 1961 but in 1962 was arrested again for illegally leaving the country. Convicted and sentenced to five years at Robben Island Prison, he was put on trial again in 1963 with seven others on charges of sabotage, treason, and conspiracy. In the celebrated Rivonia Trial, named after the suburb of Johannesburg where ANC weapons were found, Mandela eloquently defended his actions. On June 12, 1964, he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Mandela spent the first 18 of his 27 years in jail at the brutal Robben Island Prison. He was confined to a small cell without a bed or plumbing and was forced to do hard labor in a quarry. He could write and receive a letter once every six months, and once a year he was allowed to meet with a visitor for 30 minutes. However, Mandela’s resolve remained unbroken, and while remaining the symbolic leader of the anti-apartheid movement, he led a movement of civil disobedience at the prison that coerced South African officials into drastically improving conditions on Robben Island. In 1982 he was moved to Pollsmoor Prison on the mainland, and in 1988 to a cottage, where he lived under house arrest.
In 1989, F.W. de Klerk became South African president and set about dismantling apartheid. De Klerk lifted the ban on the ANC, suspended executions, and on February 11, 1990, ordered the release of Nelson Mandela. Mandela subsequently led the ANC in its negotiations with the minority government for an end to apartheid and the establishment of a multiracial government. In 1993, Mandela and de Klerk were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. On April 26, 1994, the country’s first free elections were won by Mandela and the ANC, and a “national unity” coalition was formed with de Klerk’s National Party and the Zulus’ Inkatha Freedom Party. On May 10, Mandela was inaugurated in a ceremony attended by numerous international dignitaries.
As president, Mandela established the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to investigate human rights violations under apartheid and introduced numerous initiatives designed to improve the living standards of South Africa’s Black population. In 1996, he presided over the enactment of a new South African constitution. Mandela retired from politics in June 1999 at the age of 80. He was succeeded as president by Thabo Mbeki of the ANC, but remained a global advocate for peace and social justice until his death in December 2013.

Wayakurua (welcome)
Otjihimba is known to be the official language of the Ovahimba people of Namibia, yet many of the community members also speak English, Afrikaan, and Portuguese but Otjihimba is the connection to the culture and identity of the Ovahimba. Otjihimba is a dialect of the Herero language and is known as a Bantu language, some other Bantu languages consist of; Swahili, Rhundi, Rwanda, Shona, Xhosa, and Zulu. When looking into language, Otjihimba is the language franca of the Ovahimba people. ThoughtCo. states "Where a language is widely used over a relatively large geographical area as a language of wider communication, it is known as a lingua franca—a common language but one which is native only to some of its speakers". I am going to go over a few common words in the Otjihimba language;
Hello - Tjike/KOH rah
Yes - Ii (EE-ee)
No - Kako (KAH-koh)
Please -  Arikana (ah REE kah NAH)
Thank You - Okuhepa/Ndangi (OH koo heh tah)
Can you help me - Arikana ndji vatera
I don't understand - Ami hi (understand)
I don't speak Otjihimba - Ami hi hungira
My name is Taylar - Ena randje owami Taylar
Through quite a bit of website and video searching, I have found a small outline of common terms. Although a bit patchy, it was difficult to find a lot of words that were able to be translated or even heard of when pertaining to the Ovahimba language. There was one website that I was able to find two sentences written in the Otjihimba language, and underneath it showed the translation. Yet that made me curious to see what google translate had to say.
original text:
Korutenga Ndjambi wa memene eyuru nehi. Nehi kara ri nomuhapo, nu ra ri tjo. Nu kwa ri onḓorera mourekoto, nOmbepo yaNdjambi ya tengerere kombanda yomeva.
Translation:
In the beginning God created heaven and earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep water. The spirit of God was hovering over the water.
google translation:
Buy a real Ndjambi here. Nehi was a friend, and he was a tjo. When we were listening to the recorder, the Ndjambi band played the Tengere Kombanda.
Tumblr media
I am definitely not surprised when looking at google translate, that does not mean that google translate doesn't do an ok job most of the time, but the fact that there is not a lot of research done on the Otjihimba language. So when looking into different websites and what not just proves that the only reason google or big formats know anything is through others giving up that information for the majority of people to use. Either way, whether it is through translate or not, the Ovahimba language is truly unique and definitely a bit difficult to pronunciate when there are not words spelt out to help understand the pronunciation.
The University of Sheffield Culture and the Mind says that "Although English is now the national language of Namibia, almost no Himba speak it, and very little English is taught in Omuhonga schools". The phrase "language influences our view of reality" means that the way we perceive and understand the world is shaped by the language we use. Language not only reflects our thoughts but also frames them, affecting how we categorize experiences, interpret events, and form beliefs. Different languages emphasize different aspects of reality, guiding how we see and interact with the world around us.

A critical Update...
A critical Update... CONTEXT: https://ift.tt/JFuYoD6 is a post I made in the Music subreddit three days ago that explains the critical update that I want to share with you all today. I made allegations in that post that there is a conspiracy/cover up regarding Hip-Hop Legend Afrika Bambaataa and his Universal Zulu Nation affiliates occurring in real-time. And the primary reason why I know this to be true is because I am one of the Survivors of Afrika Bambaataa and had unfortunately experienced it.Critical Update:Last night, the alleged individual that went rogue and recanted in support of Afrika Bambaataa and Zulu Nation, officially declared that his "Bam Closure Tour" had begun. He then went on Choke No Joke's livestream last night and began speaking on his public meeting with Afrika Bambaataa. And he allegedly demonstrated, in the first 30 minutes of the livestream, the information in my previous post to be absolutely true with his public statements! I alleged that he was using this to discredit other Survivors and clear Afrika Bambaataa and Universal Zulu Nation from being held accountable. And that's precisely what allegedly began happening three days later.DID NIPSEY DIE OVER DJ KHALED? - RONALD SAVAGE FORGIVES AFRIKA BAMBATTA! - CHOKE NO JOKE LIVE (youtube.com)This is the current and most recent evidence to back up the allegations from the previous post. Everyone has a right to remain skeptic, so please draw your own opinions and conclusions.Thank You. Submitted August 13, 2024 at 08:50AM by Gamepad_Pianist https://ift.tt/hlwiDmr via /r/Music

A-T-3 126 Marley Marl Is One Hell Of A Man
Marley Marl catches the ear of WLBS DJ Mr Magic with his mix of Malcom McLaren's Buffalo Gals. Broadcast across the Tri-State area Mr Magic hosted Rap Attack, the first exclusive rap radio show to be aired on a major station. Marley Marl became Mr Magic's on-air assistant/DJ. In 1983 Mr Magic and Marley Marl started the hip-hop collective the Juice Crew, named after one of Mr Magic's aliases, "Sir Juice"
Buffalo Gals mixed by Marley Marl listen out for the intro vocal thanking New York DJs from Carol Williams' Can´t Get Away (From Your Love) (Special Club "Dub" Mix) (A-T-2 150)
youtube
Marley Marl's debut production was an answer to fellow Queens residents Run DMC and their hit Sucker MC's for Marl's then girlfriend Dimples D, the record is called Sucker DJs (I Will Survive). Delivering an answer record is the beginning of a pattern. The beat programming on this record is kinda wack (he uses a TR-808, don't blame the 808) and the scratching isn't the best, but I love Dimples D (Crystal Smith). Delivering great lines like "he cuts the record with so much class" of course it was going to be popular with DJs. All the great 'turntablists' use it and so do the shit ones. Marley Marl has used bits of the vocal from this record all through his career, it turns up on Shante records, Shan records, The Uptown Crew kicks it
Sucker DJ's was the first record to be put out on Partytime Records, which was a sub label of Arthur Bakers Streetwise Records. In 1984 Partytime would put out the first Def Jam record. Sucker DJ's didn't do anything in the US upon release, it was released in Europe through Dutch label Injection Disco Dance and comped by High Fashion Music on the, Street Sounds Electro rip off, Scratch Tracks compilation. In 1990 Dutch DJ and remixer Ben Liebrand remixed the track, now shortened to Sucker DJ, by blending it with Hugo Montenegro's I Dream Of Jeannie theme, which I think Afrika Bambaataa used to play at UZN parties. It's very possible Ben Liebrand sequenced Scratch Tracks, anyway, Liebrand's remix was a hit across Europe
Marley Marl's beats would get a lot better, he would follow Trevor Horn's team and sample beats, before any other hip hop producers in the US, so the story goes - didn't it turn up on Eric B for President or something?
His second Juice Crew record will be 1984s Roxanne's Revenge, another answer record this time by 14-year-old battle rapper Roxanne Shante, kicking off the Roxanne Wars
Kool DJ Red Alert (one of the first DJs to play with the Universal Zulu Nation) had a rap radio show on Kiss FM in NYC, it would rival Mr Magic's Rap Attack show starting a beef between the two DJs. Red Alert was down with BDP, Mr Magic with the Juice Crew, and so began The Bridge War
Here's the Suckapella of Dimples D - Sucker DJ's (I Will Survive) which is the best cut on the 12 imo
