He found himself in your arms again. You were lying with your back against the armrest of the couch, and San had taken his place on top of you. Never in his life had he imagined someone running their fingers through his hair could feel this amazing. But here he was, and he was melting into your touch. You were talking about something, and although San tried to listen he couldn't bring himself to. His focus was far gone. The way that your fingers gently scratched at his scalp, and the vibration he could feel coming from your chest every time you spoke, was enough to almost put him to sleep. You had him entierly relaxed, even his brain. In fact, as soon as he had stepped through the door to your apartment, his entire body relaxed to the scent of you surrounding him.
Of course, you had no idea that San felt this way. In fact, you had no idea that he acted differently around you than he did around others. The two of you met in one of your university courses. You had been sitting behind him, and he turned around to ask you for a pencil. He was charming, but a bit arrogant. When you spoke to him, acting like an average person does to a complete stranger, he was surprised that you didn't know him. You had obviously apologized and asked if you had met before, but he answered with a shrug and said that "everyone knew him". That might have been true, but you were never one to socialize much. You told him this and he hummed, trying not to seem slightly disappointed.
From then on, when you had a lecture he sat down next to you. He started talking to you more regularly. Eventually, he walked with you around campus, and the two of you even started having lunch together. San asked you out after a few weeks of knowing you, but you declined. It was clear that he wasn't usually rejected, but he stayed respectful to you. Your friendship continued, and you started hearing more about his reputation. Despite learning this, you didn't stop hanging out with him. In your eyes, he had been nothing but kind and respectful. It surprised San, but he never remarked on it to you.
After a few months of friendship, San started to change. He went out less, just to hang out with you more. Over time, you developed feelings for him. And when you confessed, he reciprocated. Your relationship was slow, as both of you were trying to navigate a completely new situation. He had never been in a committed relationship, and you didn't have much experience. But so far it was working out.
It was different the first time you had sex. After knowing San for so long, he seemed strangely tense in the situation. Despite him being more experienced, you were the one who ended up comforting him. He kept acting in ways that you didn't recognize as him. That evening you didn't get very far. Both of you ended up just going to sleep instead of continuing. You thought it was your fault, that you weren't good enough for him. At the same time, San felt horrible about not being able to perform well enough for you. However, the two of you talked it through the next day - a plus about being so close before getting together was that you weren't afraid of having these conversations.
San told you of his past partners wanting him to "take control", and he had only assumed you expected the same. Once you communicated that it wasn't anything you wanted, you tried again. San was still a bit tense, but you were both at least able to orgasm. And as you had been riding out your high, you had said something that threw him off guard, that had sent him over the edge as well. As you came, his ear had been right by your lips and he heard you whisper "such a good job" and "my good boy". He didn't mention it afterward, but he couldn't stop thinking about it.
But now San was in your embrace. Safe, comfortable, and happy. And he shouldn't be thinking about it, but he was. Your hands ventured from his hair to his back, rubbing soft circles on his over his sweatshirt.
"San?" you asked in a careful tone, like you were questioning if he was asleep.
He hummed in response, yet kept his eyes closed - far too lost on cloud nine to acknowledge you any more.
"I need to go to the bathroom, could you get up?",you patted the back of his head.
"Noo, I'm so comfy..." San whined.
"I know, baby, but I'll be back in a second," you cooed at him.
"Ugh, fine." He sat up and let you get up.
"Good boy," you said, jokingly - even going so far as to chuckle about it afterwards and petting his cheek.
It was clear you were only joking, but San's entire world came crashing down as you said those two words. You walked away from him unaware of what you had done. San felt his cock twitch under his clothes. He couldn't help it, his mind started running. Of course, he liked it when people praised him but it was different when you did it. He imagined what it would feel like to eat you out, hearing you moan out how good he was making you feel. Or what it would be like if you were to jerk him off while whispering about what a good boy he was. This made him think of you riding him, letting you take control and take care of him.
Without realizing it, he had put his hand in his sweatpants and had begun caressing his dick over his underwear. He just needed some sort of friction, he was too hard to just "forget about it". But no matter how much his hand rubbed and his hips bucked up, he couldn't get off. He wasn't in the right mind to do it properly, his brain completely melted from your cuddles and the thoughts of the nasty things you could do to him. He was so long gone that he didn't hear you leave the bathroom.
"Uh... San?" you said, standing by the end of the couch again.
He stopped, looking up at you with big teary eyes. As you approached him, San fell back on the couch, his head hitting a pillow. From beside him, he grabbed another pillow to put over his crotch. You sat down in front of him again, putting a hand on his leg.
"Are you okay?" you asked with so much sincerity that San almost started crying from just that.
"I'm sorry-"
"Why are you sorry?" You gave him a soft smile as your hand rubbed comforting circles on his thigh. "I mean, it's a little odd to try to get off in my living room when I'm not here - but that's not my point. Why are you tearing up?"
San brought a hand up to his eyes, surprised to wipe a tear away from there. His face grew red. He had been so needy that he almost started crying.
"I need you," he admitted shyly.
"This randomly?" You chuckled. "Did something happen? Why are you like this now all of the sudden?"
"I just..." he muttered, "Promise to not think I'm weird?"
"I don't think you're weird, baby, I could never."
"... I want you to take care of me?" he admitted hesitantly.
"Take care of you? What would that entail?" you asked, sounding more and more intrigued.
"I want to..." San struggled to get the words out, and had to pause for a moment before he could continue. "I want you to call me... your good boy."
You recalled the past few times you had called him that. Honestly, it always just slipped out. You didn't mean to do it, but had you known he liked it you would have done it sooner. With a stern hand, you grabbed the pillow over his crotch and tried to yank it away.
"No, please, Y/N... it's embarrassing," San whined and held the pillow in place.
"If you want me to take care of you, I have to see your little problem first," you told him and he removed the pillow. "There's a good boy."
At your teasing tone, San let out another whimper. You looked at his hard cock through his sweatpants. There was a wet patch where the head of his cock was, coming from all the precum leaking out of him. You gently rubbed his hard shaft over his pants. San began to whimper and threw his head back on the pillow. His hand flew to his mouth to stop any lewd noises from getting out. It was very different from his usual performance during sex, but it was very appreciated.
"Don't hide, baby," you said. "Let me hear you."
You helped San slide his pants off as he held his hips up for you. After placing a soft kiss on his hipbone, you pulled his underwear off as well. Now he was left in only his sweatshirt. The sight was oddly endearing. Your boyfriend lying all splayed out for you, while shyly covering half of his red face with his hands, was a sight for sore eyes. He was extremely hard, his pink tip already leaking with precum.
"Oh, my poor baby..." you cooed. "Don't worry, I'll take such good care of you."
You surprise yourself in how easily you've settled in this role - but it had always been somewhat of a fantasy of yours to take complete control. San is writhing underneath you as you gently pump his cock in your hand. Spreading the precum over your hand, you use it as make-shift lube for the time being.
"Please, don't tease me..." he whined.
"I'm sorry, love." You smiled at him as if you weren't torturing his hard member at this very second. "You're just so pretty. I need fully appreciate you."
Something about the way he moans out your name when you take him in your mouth has your thighs clenching to find some sort of relief. You bob your head up and down his, as his whines grow louder. He didn't fully fit in your mouth, and you took the last bit of him with your hand instead. When you looked up at him, his eyes were shut tight, his eyebrows furrowed in pleasure, and his mouth hung open to release the most beautiful sounds you had ever heard. Your mouth let go of his length with a pop, and San began bucking his hips into your hand. With your saliva all over him, you started jerking him off quicker.
"Stay still," you commanded. "Or you don't get to cum."
You don't know where it came from, but the demand fell so naturally from your lips. San's eyes shot open, and he began squirming in desperation - which you assumed was an attempt to cum quicker so that you couldn't take it from him. You pushed his hips down and gently squeezed his shaft.
"I thought you said you wanted to be my good boy?" You stopped your hand movements, "Just stay still and I will give you what you want."
"Feels so good..." he mumbled, "Please... more."
"I'll make you feel so good, but you have to follow my rules," you murmured, "You have to give in to me, okay?"
"Okay..." he nodded.
"Now let's get this sweater off." you said and let go of him to pull off the last piece of fabric. "We don't want to get this cute thing all messy, yeah?"
San was completely naked in front of you. His cheeks were flushed, and his hair was slightly messy. You spit on your hand before wrapping it around him again. After setting a steady pace, you noticed that he kept staring at your chest. While pushing your arms together you could see your cleavage in your tank top. You leaned even further forward, giving him a clear view. If you overexaggerated your movements slightly, your tits started bouncing and threatened to spill out of your shirt.
"I want to touch you..." he said in a strained voice, never taking his eyes off of your chest.
"Later, baby..." you hummed. "Just watch me, for now, okay?"
He nodded and kept his eyes on you. You speeded up your movements, determined to make him cum on himself. By the distant look in his eyes, and his heavy breathing, you could only assume he was close.
"Want to cum all over yourself?" you asked. "Make a mess all over your tummy, hm?"
His mouth fell open in a moan as he nodded. You continued your quick pace and started fondling his balls, trying to bring him even closer to an orgasm. San began babbling, asking you if he could cum. All you did was hum in agreement, and white strings of cum shot onto his toned stomach. You cooed as you helped him through his orgasm. For some reason, the lewd scene looked so cute on him - and teasing him for it made it even better.
"You're such a messy boy..." you purred. "Let's clean you up, yeah?"
You brought to fingers to his stomach and wiped away some of his cum. The two messy fingers went past his lips as he sucked the liquid away.
"Good boy," you praised and he whined around your fingers.
"Can I touch you now?" he asked between heavy breaths.
A laugh fell from your lips at his eagerness. Nevertheless, you agreed. He reached for your waist and pulled you in for a kiss. It was sweet yet needy, and all the while he was fiddling with your clothes. He pulled away to take off your shirt and proceeded to kiss down to your chest. San took one of your nipples in his mouth while he kneaded your other breast in your hand.
"Hey..." you said breathlessly, trying to get his attention.
He whined against you, trying to bring you even closer. You just wanted to clean him up before you continued experimenting. But he wasn't listening, all too transfixed in touching you. With your clean hand, you grab his hair and yank him away. He looks up at you with big eyes.
"We have to clean you up first," you murmured and he nodded.
San went to the bathroom and washed himself up, while you went into the bedroom. You discarded the rest of your clothes and sat down on the bed. As soon as San joined you, his hands roamed your body all over.
"I want to taste you...", he muttered against your skin.
You leaned back and spread your legs from him. He admired your glistening pussy, gently spreading your slickness around your folds. Your breath hitched in your throat as he brought his mouth down to lick a stripe up your cunt.
"If you do well for me, I might just let you fuck me." You raised your eyebrows at him.
"... could you ride me?" he asked, still a bit shy.
"Whatever you want." You grinned. "As long as you make me cum on your tongue first, of course."
San put two of his fingers in his mouth, wetting them before prodding them against your hole. When he started pumping in and out of you, getting you comfortable with the sensation, he brought his mouth to your clit. A string of curses fell from your mouth and your hands nested in his hair, keeping him in his place.
"Keep doing that..." you whimpered as his fingers hit that one spot in you that made your toes curl. "You're doing so good for me."
He whined against you and seemed even more persistent to continue. In the midst of his neediness, he couldn't focus on keeping everything neat. Slobbering sounds echoed through the room as he sucked on your clit and plunged his fingers deep inside of you. Neither of you could keep quiet, deprived sounds bubbling out of your throats every other second. The tightening feeling in your stomach grew stronger. You started grinding yourself against his tongue. San let you use him as your orgasm hit you. When you looked down you saw San grinding against the mattress. You pulled him up from your throbbing cunt, breaking his focus. His lower face was glistening in your juices and his eyes were sparkling.
"Did I do good?" he breathed out.
"So good, baby." You giggled and cupped his cheek. "Are you feeling a bit needy again?"
"I want you," he said breathlessly. "I want to be inside you, please."
You pretended to think about it, enjoying watching him squirm a bit too much. It was endearing watching him wait, not even thinking of taking matters into his own hands - he had fully let go of the control. However, you gave in eventually and nodded. The two of you shuffled around the bed until you ended up on top of him. You were hovering above his hips. San's hand was on your hips, anxiously kneading the flesh under his fingers.
"No touching." You grinned and pinned his hands above his head. "Keep your hands there for me, okay?"
"But I want to touch you..." He pouted.
You thought of a punishment that you could use to ensure that he wouldn't touch you. You had already used the threat of taking away his orgasm, but what if you did the opposite? To stabilize yourself, you put your hands on his chest.
"If you touch me", you leaned down to him, "I'll make you cum so many times you lose count. I won't care how overstimulated you are because I won't stop until I'm satisfied."
San shivered and pushed his hands against the pillows. You grinned at his obedience. With that, you sank down onto his length. You were still sensitive from your previous orgasm but tried to keep your cool. Wet skin slapping against skin resonated through the bedroom, along with the many moans and whimpers from either of you. No matter if your legs grew weary because seeing San writhe and whine beneath you was all the motivation you needed.
"Touch..." he murmured breathlessly. "Please."
"No, baby, hands to yourself." You sighed as you kept bouncing. "You want to be good for me, don't you?"
He nodded vigorously, showing you his enthusiasm, but his eyes were hazy. You reached over to his face to cup his cheek in your palm. San leaned into your touch, whining at finally getting some sort of contact with you again.
"You're doing so good..." you murmured "Maybe you deserve a reward."
"Yes, please!" he mewled.
You paused to moan as you started grinding against him. San squirmed under you, desperate to touch you. So to be nice, you took his hands away from the pillows and put them on your hips. He grabbed the skin and started lifting his hips up to meet yours.
"Feels so good..." he blubbered while desperately fucking up into you "Thank you, thank you..."
"Baby, I didn't even give you your reward yet." You panted and tried to still his hips with your hands. "You have to stop moving if you want to cum."
San stopped moving and looked at you with big eyes. He sat up, his face was just by your chest. With pleading eyes, he silently asked for permission, and when you nodded he began kissing your collarbone area and down to your breasts.
"I want you to cum only after I'm done, okay?" You caressed his cheek and he nodded against your palm. "Good boy."
As you began bouncing on his dick again he whimpered against your skin. You felt something warm in your lower stomach growing tighter. When your walls fluttered around him, it was as if it reminded San of the situation he was in. One of his hands went down to your clit and rubbed quick but sloppy circles there. And as you came around him you started shaking, your legs growing tired. In the midst of riding out your high, San pulled you off of him and came over your chest.
"So good for me, baby, good job," you whispered out.
He leaned his head against your shoulder. With a small giggle, you patted the back of his head.
"Thank you," he muttered, "For not thinking I'm weird."
"Of course, baby." You kissed his temple. "Did I do okay?"
"You did great." He chuckled.
"Good... I kind of liked it," you hummed. "Could we try it again sometime?"
"I was hoping you'd ask." He looked up at you and smiled.
The two of you relaxed against each other, sweaty and messy but content. For once, it didn't feel forced to have sex with your boyfriend.
"Thanks for trusting me," you whispered.
He looked up at you and smiled again, it was enough for you to understand. Despite not wanting to, you got up and wobbled over to the bathroom - San followed close behind. The two of you took a quick shower together. Tired hands soaping up your grimy skin, and shampooing your hair.
When you got back to the bedroom you saw the mess you had made. San's arms were wrapped around your middle, and you leaned against his chest in defeat.
"We could sleep on the couch," he suggested "I can fix this in the morning for you."
"Thanks, bub." You patted his cheek, and walked with him to sleep on the couch.

BF!Wonwoo Comforting You
Tumblr media
MASTERLIST
Gonna start working each of these Wonwoo requests in between all of the others lol. Thanks for the request anon! (If your request is bc you were stressed with uni life, I really hope finals season went well/is going well and that you made it through the spring semester alright!!!) Sorry it’s kind of short :(
(Gif is not mine, if you like it pls go give love to the OP and do not repost it without crediting them!)
Tumblr media
Wonnie isn’t always super confident in his abilities to support people emotionally
It honestly makes him a little nervous because he’s sure he’ll say something wrong or make it worse or simply not help at all
So when finals season comes up and he notices school becoming overwhelming for you, his own stress is doubled at the idea of not being able to help you
At first he tries to do little things
He offers to be the one to buy and pick up food
If you have any errands or chores, he’ll offer a helping hand in any way he can
He’ll help you make index cards or little practice quizzes
All of his little efforts to relieve your stress honestly do help
But they can’t stop finals from happening
And when he catches you crying over a textbook one evening, he realizes he might need to step up his game and that you might need help in other ways
He doesn’t want to push or make you uncomfortable
So he approaches carefully
“Hey, baby, what’s going on?” he rests his hand gently on your back before beginning to drag it slowly up and down
“Nothing,” you say, quickly trying to collect yourself, “I’m just a little tired, I guess”
“Is there anything I can do to help?” he asks after waiting a moment to see if you say anything else
You simply shake your head and Wonwoo feels his heart drop to his feet
He finally decides on sitting next to you, continuing to rub your back and waiting as you take deep breaths to calm yourself
“Food?” he says finally, and feels relief when you genuinely laugh through your tears at the suggestion
You nod, and reach up to wipe away the rest of the wetness of your face
To your surprise, Wonwoo beats you to it
He grabs your face in his hands and takes his time make sure every tear is gently wiped off
“Hey,” he says softly to get your attention. “Next time let’s talk this out for real.” He doesn’t want to push you right at that moment but also doesn’t want you to feel as though you have to go at it alone
When you nod at him, he nods back and then pulls you forward to peck your lips
“Ok then, fried chicken or tacos?”
After the first crying session Wonwoo had caught you having, it didn’t happen again for awhile
Since that time, Wonwoo has done a lot of research and asked advice from a lot of people to see how he can be more supportive of you emotionally
So the next time he catches you crying, sitting sort of limply in the middle of your bed
He has a plan
First he simply sits with you and pulls you into him and lets you cry it out into his shoulder
He doesn’t try to rush you out of it or stop you, he just rubs his hands slowly up and down your back
Once you’ve finally finished crying and your breathing returns to normal, he slowly pulls you back to face him
“Do you wanna tell me what’s bothering you? Is it just the stress?”
You shake your head, but take a while to find your voice to explain your feelings
Again he doesn’t rush you, just reaches forward to push your hair away from your face and wipe away any leftover tears
You finally take a deep breath and let out “What if even after I do all this studying, I’m still not smart enough to pass my exams???”
You feel a wave of emotions while admitting your fears out loud especially since Wonwoo pauses for a moment
He only pauses bc on the inside he’s going “????? [Y/N] is the smartest person I know????? Why would they think they can’t pass their exams???”
He finally voices his thoughts out loud, giving you plenty of assurance that you are a smart and capable student who will ace your exams
He takes the time to ask you about this fear more in depth so you can fully discuss it
You feel a little embarrassed about your fear but way more than that you feel relieved after talking it out with Wonwoo, it’s like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders
That night Wonwoo insists you take a break for a few hours
He sets up your favorite movie and orders your favorite food
As soon as you’re on the couch, he basically swaddles you in a fuzzy blanket and spends the rest of the evening pampering you
He basically can’t take his eyes off of you as he watches your stress melt away for the time being
He can’t help but lean over every once in awhile to peck your cheek
Hope you don’t need to get up for any reason during the movie because his arms are locked around you like a deadbolt and they are not going anywhere any time soon
He just feels the need to hold you tight and as close to him as possible, so you can feel his presence and know he’s right there by your side
After that night, whenever you’re studying, Wonwoo always makes sure to make subtle comments about how smart you are and how well you’re doing and how impressive you are academically
He gives you the strength and confidence you need to get through the end of the semester
Wonwoo himself doesn’t tend to get nervous thinking about tests or studying for them
He always gets nervous right before
The jitters grab ahold of him as he’s waiting outside the classroom door moments before the teacher will arrive to let them in and begin the test
To help him counter his nerves you’ve started either walking him to the class or surprising him by visiting him before the test starts
You try to bring little drinks or snacks to make sure he’ll have something in his system before taking the test to keep up his strength
You write him plenty of encouraging notes to stick to the packaging of whatever you bring him
You talk with him about random things to take his mind off of it
Or even help him do some last minute studying on any specifics he wasn’t as confident about
When it’s time for him and the other students to enter the class, he’ll turn to you one last time
And you’ll give him any encouragement you can think of
And a good luck kiss of course
Just a quick peck before you turn him around and nudge him towards the classroom
You wait for him to see a happy and relieved Wonwoo emerge from the classroom
Once exams are over, the two of you spend a whole week just being lazy and doing whatever you want to celebrate

secrets
pairing: Shuri x reader
warnings: none that I could think of
word count: ~2,200 words
a/n: requested by @junajackson. sorry that it took me so long to write this! between uni and having to evacuate my appartment for a while, I really didn’t have a lot of freetime to write. I hope you like it :)
summary: shuri comes to visit the avengers compound, and your teammates dicover that you’ve been secretly dating the Wakandan princess for a while now.
Tumblr media
The sun was already starting to rise by the time you returned to the compound, bathing the sky in a light pink hue. It was a pretty sight for your sore eyes. You felt drained, the way you often did after a mission. You had been gone for almost a week without being able to contact anyone, getting very little sleep as you had to fight your way out of one mess after the other. Ultimately, the mission was a success but exhausted as you were, you didn’t have it in you to celebrate.
You were welcomed back by an agent who briefly reminded you when your mission report would be due. You muttered out a confirmation and made a beeline for your room, stripping yourself from your dirty clothes and jumping under the shower. Cleaning up made you feel a lot better, and the warm water did wonders for your aching muscles. Dressed in something comfortable, you walked to your bedroom, ready to call it a day and catch some sleep. You had barely covered yourself with a blanket when a disembodied voice interrupted the tranquility of your room.
“Mr. Stark has requested your presence in the common room.”
Burying your head in your pillow, you let out a groan.
“Do I have to?”
Even to your own ears, your voice sounded whiney. The AI refrained from commenting on that, though.
“Mr. Stark is giving you five minutes to get to the common room and advises you to make yourself look presentable.”
Grumbling out some incoherent swear words, you stumbled out of bed and slowly got changed and pulled on some shoes. After assuring your hair looked alright, you made the small track to the common room. Tony looked up when you entered but, seeing your glare, refrained from making whatever stupid comment he had on the tip of his tongue.
Silently he passed you a cup of coffee which you received with a grateful nod. Taking a sip of the dark fluid, you let its warmth and the caffeine wash over you.
“How was your mission?” Tony asked tentatively, almost as if scared you would snap at him.
“Long and exhausting. I had to ditch my phone and comms the first day and barely had time to sleep or eat,” you took another long sip of your drink before throwing him a side glance, “I really hope for the sake of you that this is important.”
Tony was quick to assure you that it was, perhaps fearing that you would lose your cool otherwise. And yes, you were tired, but you were not irrational. The worst you would do is hit him in the arm and cuss him out, maybe prank him, later on, to get even.
“Important visitors are arriving from Wakanda today. We’re doing a bit of collaborative work on a new suit, improve some of my technology, etcetera. I need someone to show them around while I’m at a meeting with Fury. Think you’re up for that?”
You visibly perked up once you heard about Wakanda. You were more than familiar with their technology. After all, you were dating the head of their science and information department, although Tony didn’t know that. No one on the team did. After all, it hadn’t been until very recently that Wakanda decided to open up to the world and share its knowledge and technology. So, naturally, secrecy had to be part of the deal at the beginning of your relationship. And since then, you had just never found the time or the opportunity to broach the subject.
“I think I'll manage.”
Tony patted your shoulder with a grateful nod.
“Good. I know you’re tired, but I'll owe you one after this,” he said, distractedly checking his watch as he spoke, “I gotta run. Can’t keep Fury waiting any longer. Tell the Wakandans I'll be back by lunchtime. Keep them entertained until then, alright?”
At your affirmation, Tony thanked you and left you alone in the common room. You made yourself a second cup of coffee, already feeling better than before. That might also have something to do with the excitement of knowing your girlfriend might be coming to visit. After all, she was the head of the technology and information exchange program, so it would only make sense for her to be the one arriving today.
When FRIDAY alerted you that the Wakandan jet was preparing to land, you were out of your seat and down at the landing lane in no time. Some agents threw you weird looks, but you couldn’t care less. The plane had just shut off its engine when you arrived, waiting a couple of feet away to leave enough space for the small boarding ramp.
First to step off the jet, were two Dora Milaje carrying their standard sonic spear and serious expressions. The two warriors remained at either side of the door, eyeing the terrain with watchful eyes. Your own were fixed on the door while practically bouncing on the back of your feet in anticipation. As soon as you recognized the silhouette of your girlfriend in the doorway, you couldn’t help the big goofy smile that came to your face.
Her eyes trailed over the small airport before finally landing on you. Face lighting up, she matched your grin with one of her own. It had been so long since you had last seen Shuri in person, your heart stammered a bit just at the sight of her. The Wakandan princess quickly descended the ramp, immediately engulfing you in a hug that you returned just as fiercely.
“I was not sure you would be here when I arrived,” she admitted, releasing you just enough so that she could really look at your face, “I haven’t heard from you since you left for your mission a week ago.”
She gave you a playfully reproachful look, causing you to grimaced sheepishly.
“I just came back an hour ago. I would have called, but sadly my phone was one of the few casualties of my mission. Anyways,” stepping back a little, you cleared your throat and jokingly bowed slightly before your girlfriend, continuing in a mockingly formal tone.
“Princess Shuri, I have the honor to officially welcome you and the Dora Milaje to the Avengers Compound. Sadly, Mr. Stark will not be available for the next hours. Until then, I can offer you a tour of the parameters, if you like?”
You held out your hand in silent offer.
She bowed her head in thanks, lightly putting her hand on yours.
“Why thank you, we would appreciate that very much.”
Unable to keep up the show any longer, you both started to giggle before you motioned for her to come along.cHolding hands, you walked her through the most important parts of the compound, ending the tour in the main lab that Tony liked to use. Shuri looked around with an appraising gaze, silently evaluating the different pieces of equipment and machinery as you leaned against the table in the center of the room.
“Not as good as what I have at home, but it will do,” was her verdict, and you laughed slightly.
“Don’t tell Tony that, or he might be tempted to renovate again. He likes to pride himself on having the best of everything.”
“Oh, but he has already admitted that I have the better tech, has he not? Or I wouldn’t be here.”
“True,” you conceded, “So what do you guys have planned? You’re not going to make him a vibranium suit, are you?”
She shook her head, joining you on your side of the table, “We were more thinking along the line of nanotechnology. Something like my brother's Black Panther suit. Easy to carry around, quick to put on. Much more practical.”
You rubbed the back of your neck, trying to sound nonchalant as you asked your next question.
“So, how long do you suppose this would take?”
She hummed, taking a couple of steps closer to you.
“Two, three days at most,” she said, wrapping her arms around your waist and pulling your closer, “But for you, I might stretch it out a little. Give us more time together.”
You smiled adoringly at her, leaning in to press a long kiss to her lips. She returned it eagerly, letting out a content sigh. You really had missed her, more than you could ever put into words. And obviously, that sentiment was shared. After a few moments, you pulled apart to catch your breath, resting your foreheads together, breath mingling in the space between you. You stayed like that for a while, just content to hold each other and be close again.
“Almost forgot, I have something for you,” she whispered after a minute, releasing you to reach into her pocket.
“Oh, uh, I didn’t get you any gifts,” you muttered out, a bit embarrassed. She dismissed your worry with a shake of her head. Taking your hand in hers, she slid something onto your wrist. Shuri watched you with anticipation as you slowly realized what it was.
“You made me a Kimoyo bracelet?”
Your eyes were probably wide as saucers, a finger tentatively trailing over the engravings on the vibranium beads. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw her nod.
“It’s easier for me to contact you with this than on one of your old school grandpa phones, and I thought it might be useful to you on your missions. It’s no big deal, really.”
She shrugged at the end, trying to play this gesture off. You looked up at her in wonder, quite aware that despite her words, this was, in fact, quite a big deal. For one, vibranium was really expensive. For another, Wakandans weren’t known for just handing out Kimoyo beads to anyone. This not only demonstrated how much she trusted you but also that she believed that the two of you were in this for the long run. Your adoration must have shown on your face because Shuri immediately groaned.
“Oh no, I know that look. Don’t you start getting sentimental on me,” she warned you without any malice. You smiled at her softly, unable to do anything about your expression.
“I won’t, I promise.”
She rolled her eyes playfully, overdramatically throwing her hands up in the air.
“You’re already doing it. Alright, I’m outta here.”
The Wakandan princess turned to go, but you gently took her hand and pulled her back into an embrace.
“I love you, Shuri,” you told her, your voice conveying all the emotions you felt. Her expression softened at your admission, and she leaned in to give you a small kiss.
“I love you, too, you big sap.”
“What's going on here?”
Both of you blinked in confusion, slowly turning to look at the door without letting go of each other. In the entrance of the lab, staring at you with faces ranging from shock to confusion and surprise, stood Tony, Steve, and Natasha.
You cleared your throat, feeling your face heat up, and slowly let go of Shuri, still keeping one of her hands in yours.
“Hey, what are you guys doing here?”
Steve was the one that spoke up, vaguely gesturing towards your girlfriend.
“We came to formally welcome the Princess.”
“Looks like Y/n has done enough welcoming for us all,” Natasha muttered, only snickering when Steve sent her a reproachful look for her comment. Tony was still regarding you flabbergasted.
“You,” Tony took off his ever-present sunglasses motioning between you and Shuri, “And her? Since when?”
“Shuri and I have been dating for almost a year now.”
“A year?” Tony repeated incredulously
“Back when Wakanda ‘s borders were still closed to the world,” Shuri sonfirmed, “With all the secrecy surrounding our technology, Y/n and I thought it would be best to keep our relationship secret too.”
“And after that, I just didn’t know how to tell you guys,”  you added sincerely.
Tony looked as though he was about to ask more questions, but luckily Cap intervened, flashing you a smile.
“Well, I’m happy for you two. You look like you're happy together.”
Shuri squeezed your hand encouragingly, knowing how nervous you had been, not knowing how the team would react. Having the Captain’s blessing, even if you didn’t really need it, was appreciated.
“Thanks, Steve.”
“At least this explains why you’ve been having so many late-night phone calls. Good for you,” Natasha teased you, her words having the desired effect of making you groan in embarrassment.
“I guess I’m happy for you, too,” Tony admitted reluctantly after being prompted byone of Steve's stern looks, “But I'll be much happier after your girlfriend helps me with my suit. So shoo, out of the lab. Play time's over, let's get working.”
The billionaire made a motion for you all to leave, Natasha and Steve complying readily, saying their goodbyes to Shuri. Rolling your eyes, you followed his demand as well, but not without leaning in to kiss Shuri’s cheek.
“I'm beat anyways. I haven’t slept in a minute.”
She released your hand with one last small squeeze.
“Get some rest. I'll see you later.”
You were barely out of the lab when, much to Tony’s dismay, you heard Shuri brag about her own lab's much better equipment. You still had a fond smile on your face by the time you finally laid down in your bed.

Okay but being in a relationship with Harry and you are in collage but bc of covid and online school you need to go back home so you don't see each other for a long time but you come back and it's all fluffy and cute bc you missed each other
Word count: 1k
A/N: Thanks for the request nonnie. This was fun to write and I hope you like it! Enjoy some uni Harry fluff!
HARRY MASTERLIST ✦ TOM MASTERLIST
To say that the last few months had been hard would be an understatement. The world had come to a stop because of the pandemic and your life had stopped along with it. You had to leave uni behind as well as your student accomodation to go back to your parents' house until things got better.
Classes from home were fun at first. It was a nice change to be able to learn from your bed and wear PJs all day long if you wanted. But as the weeks went by, it just became boring and lonely. You missed your routine of getting up, taking the bus and attending classes. But most of all, you missed seeing other people, outside of your family. You missed your friends and you missed Harry, your boyfriend.
Before covid, you used to take the same bus to uni, you ate lunch together most of the time and you hung out at the end of the day. But now, you were geographically separated, you being back in your hometown while he was in the suburbs, back at his family house. You texted a lot and video called almost every day but it wasn't the same. You missed him like crazy. You missed seeing his face, the smell of his cologne, you missed running your fingers through the curls you loved so much, you missed holding his hand, hugging him, kissing him. You just missed everything about him and everything you guys used to do.
Harry and you had been dating for almost a year now. Going to the same uni, the longest you'd spent without seeing the other had been three weeks before that. Now, it had been almost two months and a half and you didn't know how much more you could handle not seeing him in person.
When the government finally announced that universities would reopen and classes would resume, you were over the moon. You'd never thought you would be this excited to go back to school but here you were. The first thing you did when you heard the news was call Harry and he'd been just as excited as you were. You were finally going to be able to hold him in your arms again. You'd never packed all your stuff so quickly, not wanting to spend another day apart from the boy you loved.
Your parents drove you back to your student place as soon as you were allowed to. Harry had already been back to his since the previous day and was supposed to join you shortly. You started putting your things back in the closets and drawers when there was a knock on your door. You almost ran to it, checking it was who you thought it was before opening it wide. He didn't have time to say anything or even react that you were throwing your arms around his neck. He laughed at your eagerness but hugged you close. You were holding the other way too tight but neither of you seemed to care. He smelled just like you remembered. Oh, how you had missed that smell. You pulled away after what might have been a minute and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. He smiled into it and kissed you back, holding you close.
"Hi, love" he said with a smile, finally getting a chance to look at you.
"Hi, sunshine" you said, playing with the curls at the nape of his neck.
"Fuck, I've missed this so much" he sighed, pulling you back into his arms.
"Missed you too" you answered, pressing a small kiss on his neck.
You pulled away after a bit and finally let him in as you'd been standing on the doorstep for the past five minutes. You put your hand in his and led him to the sofa, sitting down next to him.
"No, come here" he told you.
You smiled at him and sat on his lap, putting your arms back around his neck. His wrapped around your waist, holding you close. He took a second to focus on the smell of your shampoo and how your body felt against his. Oh, how he had missed your hands playing with his hair.
"Hi" he smiled at you, taking you in.
"Hi" you answered with a silly smile.
"I was starting to go crazy without seeing you."
"Same, it felt like an eternity."
"Now that I've got you back, I'm never letting you go" he said, placing his head in the crook of your neck.
"That's more than fine by me" you answered with a small laugh.
You stayed like that for a while, just enjoying being back in the other's arms. Harry's hands slowly stroked your back while yours played with his auburn curls. They were just as soft as you remembered. He left a few kisses on your skin at times, making your heart flutter. You had missed him so much and you were finally back together in the same place. If anything, you felt like the months spent away from each other had made you love and appreciate him even more. You never wanted to let him go.
"Bub?" you said, breaking the silence.
"Hm?" he hummed, not moving his head from your shoulder.
"I love you" you told him, making him look up at you.
"I love you too, baby" he said before kissing you softly.
You spent the end of the day chatting away, watching movies and cuddling. You hardly let go of the other all evening long, too happy to be able to feel each other again to even move away. You ended up falling asleep on your sofa, your body on top of his, your head on his chest and his arms around your waist. You were finally back together and everything felt right again.

Hi! I love everything that you write and heh I am a fan! 😄 tbh this is my first time requesting something on Tumblr! If you don't mind and if I am not being a bother...can you write about how the guys would react If MC suddenly starts making meme references? I don't know how I got the idea but I am REALLY curious. And love you! :D
Hiya! Tyvm for the kind words, and apologies that this took a while! I hope you have the chance to enjoy it regardless ❤️❤️❤️ Love you too, sweet pea! I promise to get to the next request you’ve sent ASAP~
Aight but this would be hilarious because the range of the reactions is just ungodly. I will be putting this under a cut after Napoleon so I don’t clog up everyone’s dash, but all the suitors are included below otherwise!
Comte is the one that recognizes a few, but didn’t really stay in modern times long enough to be as well-versed as a Gen Z kid might. Regardless he finds the wittiness and absolute chaotic fuckery to be delightful, and will 100% support the harmless nonsense. It never fails to get a laugh out of him
Mozart that first day be like: “Buzz off MC I hate you” MC, because she likes swinging bats at wasps’ nests: “Well that’s not very cash money of you” Mozart: ?????????? Comte, giggling in the bg like the secret fae he is This one’s just because I’m petty, but after the events of Comte rt I just imagine them encountering Vlad again and MC’s just “I lived bitch.” while Comte is flipping him off behind her lkjahgkjhdsg
Comte @ Leo when he finds the latter under his desk: Had it not been for the laws of this land, I would have slaughtered you.  MC: wheezing from the hallway as she’s about to give him his letters
MC: So how was your day, honey? Comte: Good, good--briefly had to go beastmode upon the punk that pilfered my lint roller MC, biting her lip to keep from laughing: So does Leo still have his kneecaps? Comte: for now.
Comte, @ literally anyone upsetting the MC: I won’t hesitate, bitch
Comte: Be careful with my emotional baggage, it’s designer
MC: What if I was evil and ran towards you at very fast speeds Comte: My arms are strong, I would catch and hug you
Leo and Dazai are the ones that don’t have a single reference point but are filled with so much dumbass chaos energy that they just. Understand immediately???? Nobody knows how or why, but they just catch on so fast--adapt the language in a matter of weeks. Never underestimate the power of combined boredom, depression, and humor
I swear to god I just see MC taking them their Blanc/Rouge and being like “here you go sir, one enslaved moisture” and they just go fucking hog wild from day one. MC starts impersonating Theo when he leaves the room around Dazai, like fake deep voice “you all only hate me because you do not like me and I am mean to you. grow up.” Or like the MC meets a baby on her travels with Leo around town and she holds them and says v seriously and sagely “So you are Baby? I have heard tales of your exploits.” and Leo about loses his shit right there. They both think MC is the funniest person alive--they’ve never been more eager to throw a ring at someone in their entire life.
Also a bonus for my beloved Dazai:  MC, facing even the slightest inconvenience (like dropping her fork) in the most dramtic voice possible: Life is not daijoubu. Dazai: wheezing
MC, after watching Theo turn down a woman at the bar in the meanest way possible: bro quit letting the darkness consume you u r scaring the hoes Dazai, literally rolling around on the ground, half-drunk and dying:
MC, walking alongside Dazai and stopping to stare at her reflection in the River Seine. Dazai’s expecting some sad or twisted shit, since people often feel comfortable talking about those things around him, but instead she just: “Oh, it’s you. The source of all my problems.” And he about falls into the river from shock HAHAHA
At this point don’t be surprised if his next book is about an absolute madlad woman similar to MC
Napoleon finds it to be a delightful quirk more than anything? He doesn’t really understand it, but he finds it funny when they change their voice for effect or speak in exaggerated tones. If it’s just comprehensible enough for an outsider to understand--or Sebas gives him context--chances are it’ll send him into a laughing fit
For this one I just imagine MC singing that Ratatouille meme song obnoxiously bad while cooking, and Napoleon and Comte are just so wildly amused by it bc it makes zero sense and it’s only vaguely French at this point
MC @ Napoleon while they’re cooking brunch: Can I offer you a nice egg in these trying times?
MC, conflicted because she’s tired and wanted to sleep in but also got to see Napo’s cute sleeping face for a few hours: For my next stunt, I’ll wake up at 5AM on the day I can sleep in. Sebas: Early to bed and early to rise makes a person healthy, wealthy, and wise MC: early to bed and early to rise makes me a massive bitch Napoleon: laughing in agreement
Isaac is the type to be bewildered and concerned at first (especially when he hears the more nihilistic ones hoOOOoooOO BOY) but eventually begins to understand it’s some bizarre attempt at humor (that hurts Zack baby). While some part of him laments that it reminds him of Dazai and he’s secretly jealous of how she and Dazai bond over it, he will sometimes join in the chaos when the mood strikes him and he’s feeling mischievous
Isaac: How are you feeling? MC: Oh, I’m not Isaac: seconds from dialing 911 Isaac: Are you okay? MC: Oh yeah dw I just suffer from that syndrome where your neutral expression makes you look like you’re an angry serial killer Isaac: say sike rn
Isaac, tutoring MC and correcting something:  MC, muttering while redoing it: The risk I took was calculated, but man am I bad at math. Isaac: unable to help a laugh
One time MC was avoiding Isaac for fear of hurting his feelings and he just confronts her like: Isaac: back by unpopular demand, me! What’s wrong, MC pls MC was so hecking proud of him
Isaac, telling MC about a recent discovery he learned at uni from another professor: bones typically heal stronger after they’ve been broken--so long as they’re set properly, of course MC, looking him dead in the eyes: So what you’re saying is that I should break every bone in my body until I become superhumanly powerful? Isaac: please do not, no
Mozart and Jeanne are just. Totally lost. Why are you talking like that??? Why are you making “crab hands”???? They don’t understand. Maybe never will. They reach a point where they just kind of laugh and shake their heads, endeared by the oddity after they’re used to it and have determined it isn’t a threat/insult.
MC: It’s a cold and it’s a brooooken, Waluigi. Waaaaluigiiiii...waaaahluigi..... Mozart: surprised, then starts snickering and playing along on the piano
Arthur, asking MC very personal questions out loud because he is an idiot sometimes: Soooo MC, are you a top or a bottom? MC: I’m a threat. (If he asks a second time, the response will be “Wouldn’t you like to know, weatherboy.”) Jeanne, fighting a smile:
MC, about to punch an asshole: Your free trial of being alive has ended Jeanne, seconds from laughing for the first time in 100 years:
Also, because I genuinely can’t help myself. You know that knight meme like “Parry this you fucking casual.” I cannot stress enough that it is literally the personification of Jeanne’s entire character. I’m not even joking.
Arthur and Shakespeare are utterly fascinated by the rapid evolution of wordplay and the sheer hilarity. They will ask all about these so-called “memes” and ask for examples of them if MC can show them (either somehow accessing her phone or drawing them). MC draws Arthur the knife cat meme and he about a s c e n d s at the hilarity of it all, points and yells THEO IS HOLDING THE KNIFE. He is correct. They will be delighted and follow along eagerly, and--god forbid--will make their own based on late 19th century struggles.
Is this where Shakespeare got the idea for “What, you egg? stabs him” and “You are a saucy boy.”? I’m too scared to ask. Don’t even get me started on “The Fool jingled miserably across the floor.” That one is just too on the nose...
I can’t even imagine what would happen to Shakespeare if MC like translated vines and memes into Ye Olde English around him. Imagine she’s at one of those noble balls and hears rumors of these two guys living together and they’re so obviously gay and he says “And those gents w’re roommates.” And in the most false surprised tone ever MC just replies “oh mine own god, those gents w’re roommates.” Imagine having a wife that’s just as hilarious as you are and hits you with all the force of a bag of wet mice every time you speak in retaliation, he’s going into palpitations.
Every time Arthur does smth stupid MC just: “I Pretend I Do Not See It.”
Vincent is tickled pink by MC’s penchant for finding joy and/or amusement in nearly everything they do, and he smiles gently when he sees them muttering and laughing to themselves. He wants to be able to join them in what they love, but he has a harder time following along and understanding the darker humor sometimes. Mostly gets confused??? Please give him the easier ones to mimic and laugh when he tries--or just include him in your jokes MC. He’s babie your honor...
But he also. Will not. Stand any kind of self-deprecation or borderline verbal self-harm. He’s usually very easygoing and calm, but for whatever reason that stuff makes him go deathly quiet and upset.
MC, after something goes horribly wrong, hugging Vincent: Oh Vince, we really in it now Vincent: giggling a little despite his worries, relaxing
MC: Theo stop simping for Vincent that’s my job
MC, when Theo leaves the room and she gets Vincent all to herself: The evil is defeated.
MC: And this is where I would put my will to live...if I h a d one! Vincent: ;-; MC: oh shit, oh fuck, I was only kidding Vincent wait (MC was subsequently lectured and loved on for many hours)
Theo is conflicted because on the one hand, he loves to see you smiling and having fun. On the other, you’re clowning as hard as Dazai and Arthur and he can only handle so many monkeys in his circus. Most of the time he will roll his eyes and be the straight man of this comedy, but you might find him cracking a smile--or accidentally letting a chuckle slip past his lips now and again.
MC, after meeting Theo: I’m a nice person, but I’m about to start throwing rocks at people.
Theo, those first days: Oh? You’re approaching me? Instead of running away, you’re coming right to me? MC: I can’t beat the shit out of you without getting closer.
Theo: Every time I ask MC to explain “vibe check” to me she hits me with some kind of improvised weapon
MC, after the “incident” (you know the one): This year, I lost my dear lover Theo Theo, in the distance: QUIT TELLING EVERYONE I’M DEAD! MC: ;-; sometimes I can still hear his voice...
Sebastian is last because oh boy. OH BOYYYYY I LOVE HIM. Okay so the way I see this happening with Sebastian is just. So wild. Because at first he’s t r y i n g so hard to be the proper butler man. He does not meme. But then he starts to drift closer to what Niles from The Nanny was, where he’ll quip and joke in private or when the situation is just beyond the amount of absurdity he can handle without making a snarky comment. Everyone in the house can’t fathom how Sebas and MC got so close so fast, but there are points where they’re just “Are they even speaking English anymore???” It’s 11 times funnier than normal because Sebas almost never smiles or laughs when memeing, the deadpan quality of his playing along sends MC every time
Has ABSOLUTELY said “HEY. PANINI HEAD. ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING TO ME???” jokingly when MC made a mistake in the kitchen. They laugh about it for y e a r s
MC: I can’t date someone who keeps a lamb as a pet, that’s so weird Sebas, brushing Lotte in front of MC: MC: MC: Okay, I will make an exception because she looks very polite
MC and Sebas, fully aware of the fame some of the men will reach in modern times: We will watch your career with great interest.  (I s2g that’s like half of Sebas’ rt right there I’m crying)
Sebas rt with Lotte be like that 500 dollar Mareep meme: “sometimes a family can be just a boy, his gf, and their 500 dollar two foot tall Lotte”

my masterlist
Tumblr media
(y/n) wakes up to the sweet scent of some kind of flower filling up her nose and lungs. Despite the panging in her head she cracks her eyes open to find the source, though as soon as she takes in the totally unfamiliar room around her, the flower immediately gets forgotten.
What the hell?
She frowns, pushing her upper body up on her elbows to get a better look around. She has never seen this room ever before. Or has she? Suddenly she's not so sure as a foggy memory appears in her mind. Her glance travels across the cardboard boxes beside the wall on the floor, piled high on top of each other, then a desk, a wardrobe, arriving to the bedside table that has a lamp and several strange things - looking like some foreign country's small candies in colourful wrapping - on the wooden surface.
Sitting up fully she tries to move her legs to place them on the floor, but finds that it's much harder than it usually is - than it should be. All her attention turn to her legs now and the weird feeling that surrounds her left leg she hasn't noticed before. Carefully she lifts the covers that wrapped her body in a warm embrace to see what's wrong with her leg. A gasp leaves her lungs right away as her eyes fall on the cast wrapped around it from her knees straight to her toes.
In that exact moment the door slowly opens and her eyes snap towards the entering figure - a flaming red haired young man - whilst her fingers scramble to get the blanket back on her lower body, hiding the lack of clothing she's wearing as she's in nothing else but her underwear.
"Ah, you're awake! How are you?" He asks when his eyes connect with hers and slightly widen.
And his voice brings back everything. Literally everything to her mind about how she got here, all the memories flashing by in front of her inner eyes.
- - - - - - - flashback - - - - - - -
Friday the 13th. The day of misfortune and disasters. (y/n) huffs as she makes her way down the street towards the underground station to go back to her apartment. Now she knows this fact from experience.
She woke up a bit late that morning and didn't have time to drink her usual morning coffee in the comfort of her home, so she had to wait until her first break at work to drink one. When she just finished brewing a cup for herself in the small kitchen at her work, the handle of her favourite mug she kept in there broke and the now handle-less mug full of the brown beverage fell to the ground and shattered to a thousand tiny pieces, and if it wasn't already bad enough, the coffee splashed on her white shirt, colouring it light brown and leaving a wet stain behind all across her chest.
After that she managed to get through the day quite normally, right until 3pm, when her boss called her in to his office.
"The company is facing a hard time," his voice still echoes inside her head, making her shiver in sadness and anger. "I'm sorry, (y/n), the performance you showed us in the past two years was truly great, but you gotta understand that I have to decrease the number of employees. And that unfortunately includes you. I'm sorry."
If the way she worked was actually 'truly great', then why do they fire her and not someone else?
Well, probably her boss told the exact same thing to everyone he kicked out today, she thinks, but it doesn't help at all - it doesn't get her her job back.
So half an hour ago she packed everything in a box and set off to go back home, mentally raging about the cursed day. She has never believed in any superstition like this, but today she's changed her mind. Maybe all these things are true.
And that's when the next string of catastrophies starts.
As she's moving along the pavement next to the tracks at the station, the heel of her shoe breaks and she stumbles, her box flying away from her grip, all the contents of it scattering all over the ground. (y/n) tries gaining her balance back, taking a couple steps back, but the pavement disappears from under her feet as she reaches the edge, completely unaware of it.
She falls back, down to the tracks, and an impossible pain shoots up from her left leg as she lands, the air totally knocked out from her lungs. As she tries catching her breath, her hands move to lay flat on the ground so she can push herself up, but the world around her seems like it's spinning and she feels too weak to move a single muscle in her body.
Everything decelerates into slow motion and she glances around to see what she could do when something bright catch her eyes. A shiny warm yellow circle in the distance, getting slightly bigger and bigger with every second. She observes it carefully, thinking about how pretty it looks as she wonders what it might be. It only takes a second or two for her mind to catch up and suddenly she's more than aware that a train comes towards her and she's not capable to do anything to stop the collision from happening.
Friday the 13th.
Out of nowhere she feels a presence next to her, and just as she turns her head that way to see what's going on and her eyes fall on locks of bright red hair and a freckled face, the man has already grabbed her arm and with a fierce pull hoisted her up to a standing position. It feels like her arm is ripped out from her body, for a moment even the unstoppable hurting from her leg fades out to give space for the one in her upper body and she gasps before everything goes black.
- - - - - - - end of flashback - - - - - - -
The following events go by as a dozen of blurry pictures (y/n) can't make out in her mind and she blinks a couple times to get back to the present, to reality. She focuses on the redhead again, the last person she clearly remembers seeing.
"Where am I?" Her voice comes out hoarse and quiet and she clears her throat, waiting for his answer, knowing how she behaves quite rude completely ignoring his question, but she just can't help it.
She hasn't a clue where they could be, she's never seen a place like this in her entire life. It's obvious it's not a hospital. And after what happened it's just as obvious that she needs hospital treatment.
"The Burrow," he replies with a small smile playing on his lips.
And though she thought his answer would help clear some of the fog inside her head, it only confuses her more. Fred bites back the chuckle that threatens to burst from him seeing her cute frowning expression and waits for her to ask again, knowing it'll soon happen.
"The what?" The girl speaks up again, her voice now much clearer.
"My family home."
The confusion still stays on her face, and Fred truly can't blame her for it - who wouldn't be distraught after waking up in a stranger's home? Still, seeing the same expression he first ever saw on her face brings him back to the Tube station in London.
- - - - - - - Fred's flashback - - - - - - -
He's rushing down the stairs to catch the apparently soon arriving underground train, cursing his twin brother under his breath for winning the bet that resulted in the usage of any and every magical thing being forbidden for Fred for this whole week. Now he has to run errands adjusting to the timetables of muggle public transport and he's running out of time. Everything takes so much more time in the muggle world, and in the past few days he's grown to appreciate being born into the world of magic more than ever.
Arriving next to the tracks he catches sight of a dozen or so people there and relief fills his body. So the train hasn't left yet. He slows down to a walking pace and tries to catch his breath, and that's when he notices something weird about the people, something he has never seen in the past days when he used the Tube. They're all moving closer to each other, slowly making a tight circle, all of them looking in the same direction, as if something was on the tracks.
Curiosity rises in Fred and he makes his way to the edge of the crowd, standing on his toes to tower over it and glance down. His eyes immediately fall on a young woman lying there, one of her legs twisted in an abnormal way. She's looking to the side, towards the tunnel from where the train should arrive any minute now. Her expression displays confusion and slight fear, but her breathtaking beauty is still obvious, and it makes his heart skip a beat. His eyes slowly turn to where she's looking and he can see the light that swiftly grows brighter and brighter inside the usually dark tunnel, but his mind can't comprehend what he sees as all his thoughts are still only about the gorgeous woman lying there.
"The train's coming!" Somebody in the crowd shouts and that's what wakes Fred from his daze. His head snaps back and forth from the tunnel to the girl a couple times, so fast it's a miracle his neck doesn't break.
His body moves before he can fully think about his actions and suddenly he's pushing people away to make a path for himself in the crowd and he jumps down to the tracks. He hears a couple gasps from behind him, even a couple voices trying to inform him again and again that the train is actually soon there, but he doesn't care. All he focuses on is the task in front of him.
Squatting down he grabs one of the woman's arms and drapes it around his shoulder, standing up again as fast as he can, pulling her with him a bit harsher than he intended. She lets out a gasp in obvious pain, but he knows there's no time to be more gentle. Both of his arms move around her, one around her shoulder blades and one around the backs of her thighs to lift her up bridal style as he knows one of her legs is broken and she can't stand on it. And he's thankful for his own speed and thoughtful actions as he feels her body go limp as she faints.
The head-splittingly loud sound of a horn fills the air just as he turns around, signalling that they were noticed by the people on the train. As he takes the first few steps back towards the pavement he glances up, seeing two or three men already there bending down with their arms stretching in his direction. Fred quickens his pace as much as he's able to and practically throws the woman in the waiting hands, helping them pull her up by pushing her body from under, the screeching of brakes, iron on iron being the only sound that can be heard.
He stays on the tracks until he's completely sure that she's safe, than he grabs the edge of the pavement and swiftly pushes himself up, crawling on the cold surface until his legs are lying there as well. He feels a breeze moving against his back as the train arrives to the station, but he doesn't care about it, neither the cheering that erupts from the people around him, celebrating his heroic act, not even the burning feeling in his muscles from being strained. He just pushes himself up and stumbles to the woman, falling back down on his knees to be able to get a better look of her.
From up close he can see how she's even younger than he has thought, probably close to his age. She's obviously falling in and out of unconsciousness every other second. The word 'ambulance' enters his ears from the people around them, and he finds himself with a new task ahead of him. Somehow he has to get the girl away from this place and back to the shop so he can take her to the Burrow. Muggle hospital treatment isn't enough now, the wizarding world offered much better methods of healing. His mother will know what to do.
- - - - - - - end of Fred's flashback - - - - - - -
"And why am I here?" (y/n) continues asking.
"You broke your leg."
"Yeah, I figured, but shouldn't I be in a hospital then?" She tilts her head, raising an eyebrow.
"This is better than a muggle hospital," the young man shrugs.
"Mu... a what?"
"Ah, sorry. Slipped out," he let out a small chuckle, scratching the back of his neck in slight embarrassment.
Here comes the moment he dreaded. When he has to explain the existence of magic and the wizarding world to a completely clueless person and trying to do that without making a complete fool out of himself in front of the angel-like girl when she won't believe him - which he's sure she'll do.
"Wait, who are you? I don't even know your name," she speaks up again. "And how could I truly thank you for saving my life if I don't know even that?"
"There's no need to thank me," Fred protests.
"Of course there is!" (y/n) squeals as loudly as her weakened state allows. "Not everyone would jump down to the tracks when there's a train coming to save a complete stranger."
"Yeah, well, true," he mumbles, thinking back to how nobody did anything for her, anger filling his veins. Then he clears his throat, shaking his head to get rid of the negative thoughts and to focus on the girl again. "I'm Fred. Fred Weasley."
"Thank you for all you did, Fred. I'm (y/n) (y/l/n)," she sticks her hand out and a smile makes it's way to Fred face, matching the one on hers as he steps closer to shake her hand.
- - - - - - - 2 months later - - - - - - -
"I'm absolutely fine, Freddie, stop acting like I'm made of porcelain. I'm totally able to walk down the stairs on my own two feet," (y/n)'s giggling voice fills the air on the second floor of the Burrow when the redhead gently pulled her arm around his neck as he's done so many times in the past weeks.
"Alright, alright, I get it," Fred puts his hands up in surrender, backing away as laughter erupts from his throat and he turns his head away to hide the blush forming on his cheeks from the nickname she used.
Unfortunately he only gets completely face to face with his smirking twin brother who winks his way before pushing past him, a knowing chuckle sounding from him as he rushes downstairs, past (y/n), who follows him right away, only a bit slower, with Fred's careful, watching eyes trained on her back.
"See? I told you," the girl glances back at him over her shoulder after arriving downstairs, not stopping on her way to the dining table, only to stumble in a shoe someone left in the way. Fred immediately reaches out to grab her elbow and stop her from falling. From the strength of his attentive pull on her arm, instead of flying to the ground she crashes into his chest.
"I don't know, I'm not so sure," he teases, looking down with a smirk playing on his lips.
(y/n) moves her head up to connect her eyes with his, and Fred glances around her face, taking in the pink colour of her skin on her cheeks caused by the embarrassment of almost falling, then as his eyes reach the sight of her lips, he suddenly becomes almost too aware of how close the two of them actually are, and the breath hitches in his throat.
"Come on, kids, dinner's gonna get cold!" Molly's voice breaks the moment they shared and (y/n) regains balance, then gently pushing the boy away she turns around and limps the rest of the way to the dining table.
All of the Weasleys are already sitting there, watching the two of them appear in sight, and (y/n) has to bite back a giggle, still not used to the seemingly infinite number of redheads, all smiling wide and sweet at her. George pulls the chair she has always sat on ever since she was able to get downstairs out for her, offering a helping hand knowing that it's harder to sit down with only one properly working leg. Fred reaches out for her other arm just as she makes contact with George's hand, and the two of them don't let go until she's stopped moving.
She glances back and forth between the two boys sitting on either side of her, rolling her eyes at how overly protective both of them behave, when she's already told them hundreds of times that she's able to get by on her own.
The meal is delicious and the company is entertaining, just like it has always been since (y/n) stepped foot into the Burrow. Conversation flows without a hitch, only the occasional laughter breaking it for a second or two, and the (y/h/c) girl finds it hard to think about the inevitable - the moment that's coming fast, the moment when she has to leave these people and go back to her normal life. The Weasleys has become like a second family for her, and she fears that if she walks out that door, she'll never see them again. They're living a different life, in a completely different world. Their paths most likely will never cross again. She tries to brush off the sad thoughts, knowing that she'll have all the time to mope and grieve when she's back in her (ordinary and plain) flat on her own.
As she's helping Molly clean the dishes after the family finishes dinner, (y/n) pauses for a moment to glance at the redhaired woman. "Thank you for letting me stay here and for taking such good care of me."
"Oh, sweetie, you're more than welcome. It's our pleasure to have you here."
"That's true," Ginny chimes in with a joyful grin on her face as she places another dirty plate in front of her mother. "Your presence brightened up our boring lives."
"Boring?" (y/n) lets a loud laugh escape her throat. "Your lives are nothing even close to boring. Everything around here is breathtaking and spectacular."
"Is it though?"
"Try living my life for a week or so, and you'll know what boring really means," she shakes her head, the different memories and thoughts swiftly filling her mind as she turns around to lean the small of her back against the counter top, her eyes instantly connecting with Fred's, who's still sitting at the table, shamelessly watching her with searching eyes.
"I still can't believe there's a whole world of wizards and witches that we have absolutely no clue about. It makes me wonder how many things are there that's hidden from us. And it makes me scared how clueless we all are in the muggle world."
(y/n)'s only able to stand the intensity of his gaze for a couple seconds before she has to turn her head away, feeling the blood rush to her cheeks and heat them up. She swallows, only hoping that it stays unnoticed by the boy, but when she finally dares to glance back for the shortest of moments, she catches sight of a small smirk playing on his lips and she knows that nothing has gone unnoticed by him. Clearing her throat she tries to find something else to say, speaking the first words that come to her mind.
The newly learned word still rolls uncertainly from her tongue, not sure if she says it correctly, but when her restlessly moving eyes accidentally catch Fred's again, she sees a new kind of glint sparkling in his eyes, and it's enough to let her know that she used it correctly.
"It's not your fault," Ginny places a hand probably destined to be reassuring on the older girl's shoulder. "We're just too good at hiding it."
The two of them share a laugh, and unbeknownst to (y/n), it turns the shape of Fred's eyes into something that very much resembles a heart. His own heart flutters at the sound, the temperature of the room suddenly feeling too hot for him to bear, and he abruptly kicks his chair back, standing up and swiftly moving out of the house to get some fresh air and somehow try to cool the fire that's burning inside of his chest.
(y/n)'s eyes follow him, an eyebrow raised in question, deep in her thoughts right until the door closes shut again behind the boy. The sudden noise brings her back to the present and she shakes her head to get rid of the things running around in her head.
"Anyway, I gotta go upstairs and pack. I really have to go back home now," she sighs, pushing her body away from the counter.
"I'll come help you," Ginny immediately offers, hurrying after her.
Two and a half hours and a heart wrenching goodbye later (y/n) and Fred come to a stop outside her apartment's door, both of them feeling a previously never felt sadness fill their hearts.
All (y/n) can think of is flashing images of the flaming red haired boy. The way he sat at the edge of the bed she was lying in, telling her everything about the wizarding world. The way he lifted her up so effortlessly as if she weighed nothing to bring her downstairs when she was unable to walk in the first weeks. The way he walked her around the house and the garden, showing her everything and explaining things to her, adjusting to her extremely slow pace without a word. The way he showed her multiple of the products he and his twin brother sell in their shop, sometimes only speaking of their effects, other times even showing her, not caring with the fact it caused something inconvenient for himself as long as he made her laugh - which she did so many times and so hard that it made her sides hurt. The clothes he let her have when winter set in and her own became too thin to keep her warm, and the way the material smelled like him. The lingering touches of his calloused fingertips against the skin of her cheeks when he thought she was fast asleep - when in fact she was completely awake, fighting back the urge to press her face further into his touch.
In the meantime all Fred can think of is flashing images of the gorgeous muggle girl. The genuine curiosity that sparkled in her eyes whenever he told her about the world he's living in, the endless amount of questions she's asked him about anything and everything, the pure interest she showed from the first time he told her about the existence of magic. The way she bonded with each and every member of the Weasley family, finding a common thing with all of them and eventually making them all grow fond of her. The way she told him all about the muggle world and her own life, sharing all the details with him without hesitation - trusting him right away. The way his name rolled from her tongue - even more when she called him Freddie. The bubbling, loud laughter that erupted from her throat when he told her about the shop and all the pranks George and him did back in Hogwarts or when he showed her the products they now sell in the shop, the laugh that always made his heart skip a beat, the laugh he couldn't help but adore along with the fact that she seemingly didn't care the slightest bit how loud she is or how funny her laughter might sound. The way she looked in his clothes, always taking his breath away, making him wish nothing more in the rest of his life than to see that very sight every day as long as he lived - and possibly even after that.
"Well, thanks for getting me home," (y/n) points at the door behind her back as she looks up into his mesmerizing eyes. "And for jumping down in front of a train for me. And for letting me into your family home. And for taking care of me."
"It was the least I could do," Fred smiles sheepishly, his mind spinning, trying to come up with something to say that would keep the girl in his life.
"Bye, Freddie," she hesitates for a moment, then decides it doesn't matter anymore and leans in, pressing a soft kiss on his left cheek.
Fred's eyes flutter closed, heart bursting with the sudden feeling of love from both her lips touching his skin and the oh so loved nickname. He freezes, unable to think anything else than eight very important letters.
The girl moves back, fiddling with her keys to find the correct one, pushing it in the slot and turning it, gently shoving the door until it's wide open. She steps in, her eyes taking in the furniture and decoration she once loved but now finds unbelievably plain and mundane. A sigh escapes her lungs and she turns around to close the door - and wave once more the boy.
Fred still stands in the exact same spot, obviously not moving even the slightest bit since she backed away from him. (y/n) raises her hand to wiggle goodbye with her fingers at him whilst moving to close the door with the other hand, already feeling the tears blur her vision as she tries to take in the sight of him as best as she can to be able to remember him forever.
"Wait!" Fred exclaims, placing a palm flat against the wooden material to stop it before it fully closes.
This time (y/n)'s the one to freeze, hand pausing high in the air and she even holds back the breath in her lungs as she waits for him to continue.
"Can we meet again?"
Her eyes widen in surprise. She always thought that he'd never want to see her again. That he'd be happy to finally get rid of her and be able to continue his life as before. He wants to meet with her again?
"I... y-yes, of course," she stutters, heart stammering inside her ribcage so wild and loud, she's almost sure he can hear it.
The extremely wide smile that splits his face in two hearing her answer makes it impossible for her not to mirror it, her own lips curving on their own accord. Fred, feeling the previous nervous shyness evaporate from his body and the always present confidence fill his vein up again, takes a step closer to her, then another until he's right beside the door, gently pushing it wider open again. (y/n)'s hand on the door handle inside goes limp, and she lets it fall down to hang loose beside her body as Fred steps inside.
When he's so close that she can feel the breath coming from his nose reach the skin of her face, his lips open again to let out a whisper. "Can I kiss you?"
The already abnormal rhythm her heart beats in gets even more uneven, and her head moves in a nod as she breathes out the word 'yes'. Fred's eyes sparkle up even more, and his hands slowly start moving up, one reaching out to gently caress her cheek whilst the other wraps around the small of her back. Slowly, extremely slowly he leans down, pausing for a second just before their lips could touch, and as a wave of impatience rushes through the girl, she raises her head and presses her lips against his.
Fred lets out a muffled chuckle at her eagerness before tilting his head and snaking his arm further around her torso to pull her flush against his own body, his hand that's resting on her cheeks moving slightly further back until his fingers completely disappear in her (y/h/c) locks, his lips moving passionately against hers.
She completely melts into his touch, feeling like she's floating in the air, as if she's only dreaming. But when they both run out of oxygen and pull away to fill their lungs again, their foreheads pressing against each other in search of support and their eyes connecting without problem, looking deep into his beautiful brown orbs (y/n) grows sure right away that it's truly reality, not just a dream.
"I love you," he breathes in-between his quiet pants, but it's enough to make (y/n) totally dizzy as a love-struck grin spreads across her face.
And in that very moment they both know that their story is just starting.

‘Okay, what the fuck is going on?’ you think as you slowly try to open your eyes.
Looking at your bedside table, you reach for your phone and check the time
7:35 A.M
‘Ugh... it’s too early for this shit...’ you think as you yawn.
You remember your shift at work starts at about 9 a.m., so you decide to sleep for a bit longer.
You place your phone back down on your bedside table, and turn in bed, covering your face with a pillow.
THUD
“Goddammit, what’s going on outside?!” you exclaim, getting out of your bed and heading for the front door.
You open the door hastily, and find your landlord standing in the hallway of your apartment building, then notice multiple moving boxes scattered around, and movers talking some of the boxes into the apartment opposite yours.
You’re both startled when you open the door, but she softens as soon as she notices it was you.
“Good morning, Mrs. Saito. What’s going on?” you ask her sleepily.
“Goodness, I’m sorry they woke you up as well, sweetheart. The new tenant told me they were moving in today but I didn’t know the movers were coming this early and causing this much of a ruckus!” she exclaims, looking like she was just as annoyed by the noise as you were.
“Well, the new tenant certainly didn’t make a good first impression, huh?” you say, trying to lighten the mood.
She chuckles softly, “I guess not. They’re not even here yet, so I’m just going to have to stay here until the movers are done” she sighs.
“Want me to make you a cup of coffee?”
“Oh, that’s alright, sweetheart, you should go back in and try to get some more sleep” she says, waving you back into your apartment.
You try to insist, but you feel too tired. Instead, you just nod and go back in, closing the door behind you.
Sighing, you head to your bedroom again; you figure you should try to get a bit more sleep in before you actually start getting ready for work.
-~-~-
After tossing and turning in bed for a couple of minutes, the noise wouldn’t get any quieter, so you thought you might as well get out of bed and head to your part-time job a bit earlier than usual.
You start getting ready, and make a quick cup of coffee to give Mrs. Saito on your way out. She thanks you and you go on your way.
When you first moved into your apartment about 2 years ago, you were able to find a pretty decent part-time job working as a barista at coffee shop nearby. It was only about two blocks away from where you lived, so it was super convenient; and a plus point, you were never late.
Checking your phone again, you notice the time
8:35 A.M
“It’s still so early...” you yawn as you take out your headphones and play some music to listen to while you walk to the coffee shop, talking your time.
After about 15 minutes of enjoying your morning walk, and window shopping on the stores along the way, you reach your destination and open the front door.
“Goodmorning, y/n!” you hear your boss call out to you as soon as you enter, “Early as usual, I see”
You chuckle as you head in his direction, “Oh, you know me, always excited to get to work!” you joke.
He laughs, “Yesterday was your last day of your second Uni semester, wasn’t it?” he asks you.
“Yeah, made it out in one piece thankfully”
He laughs again, “I’m sure you did well, I've seen how stressed out you’ve been about it but I also know how hard you’ve been studying, don’t worry” he assures you as he points to the chairs in the shop, silently asking you to help him out with setting them up.
“How do you know that?” you sigh, grabbing a few chairs and setting them down.
He stops what he’s doing and looks at you, “You think I didn’t notice the dark circles you kept coming in with, during every shift, for the past couple of weeks?”
“Was it that obvious?” your eyes widen.
“Definitely” he answers and you both laugh.
After setting up the last few chairs, your boss speaks up again, “Alright, why don’t you head in and get ready, I’ll just be out here setting up the register before we open in a couple of minutes”.
You nod and walk back to the staff locker area.
-~-~-
The day goes by slowly, as usual, and after a few hours, you take your break and head to the staff room locker area to relax and have a (late) breakfast.
‘I really need this right now’ you sigh as you take a sip of your coffee, feeling more tired than usual, and blame it on having to wake up super early that morning.
You check your phone and notice a text message.
1 NEW MESSAGE
You open it.
FROM ‘Wifeyy <3’: “Heyy! Call me when you're on your break!”
You smile and shake your head, dialing up her number.
It rings a couple of times before your best friend picks up.
“Hey y/n!!” she yells excitedly
“Hey Hina,” you laugh, “What’s up?”
“Just wanted to remind you that we are going out tonight to celebrate my birthday, you still remember, right?”
“Oh, was that today?” you joke
“Y/N!!!”
“I’m kidding, I'm kidding, you know I'll be there” you shake your head
“Good! I'll also be inviting some of my friends from Uni, but I want us to hangout still. It’s been a while since we’ve actually caught up. And I'm finally gonna be able to come to your city!”
The both of you actually met during your first year in University through mutual friends. Even though you both were in different majors, you hit it off right away. And after that, the both of you always tried to make time to hang out, whether it was between classes, during lunch breaks, or whenever the both of you had the time.
However, it was sometimes hard to meet up during weekends, since she lived in the city next to yours, so whenever she had the chance to come to your city, or you were able to go to hers, you guys would always spend it together.
“Yeah, I guess with exams and all it was hard for us to actually see each other”
“Exactly, anyways I’m excited for tonight!”
“Yeah, me too..!”
“Hey, do you sound more tired than usual, or is it just me?” she asks you, sounding worried.
“Oh, it’s nothing, I just woke up super early today, not willingly though” you sigh, “don't even ask, I'll tell you about it later”
“Alright... if you say so”
“Anyways, I gotta get back to work now, so, I’ll see you tonight, okay?”
“Alright! Dress sexy, okay? You promised we would dress up!”
“Yeah, yeah, I'll try my best” you both laugh before hanging up.
-~-~-
It was about 5 p.m when you finally reach your house, after leaving your part-time job, and finishing up some outdoor chores you had for the day.
You sigh as you get off the elevator to your floor.
You notice the empty hallway as you walk to your apartment; you suppose that the movers were already done and have left at this point.
You glance over to the door opposite yours at the end of the floor’s hallway.
‘I wonder if they're home yet...’ you think before you unlock the door of your apartment and go in.
You sigh as you place your groceries and bag on your kitchen island and start putting everything away.
You were supposed to meet Hina later tonight, at around 7 p.m, to celebrate her birthday. That meant you had a couple more hours to spend at home, so you decide to make some lunch/dinner and watch a movie on Netflix.
-~-~-
“Hey Hina, I’ll just go outside and answer this call real quick alright?” you try to call out to your friend as you get out of your chair, but she looks at you confused, the music playing loudly in the pub and the bustling of the people inside made it hard for her to hear your voice from across the table.
You point to your phone, and as realization hits her, she nods.
You attempt to make your way out of the pub, trying to worm between the people inside and make your way to the door. However, you suddenly run into someone before you reach the door, and accidentally drop their drink.
“I’m so sorry!” you tell them, looking up and noticing it was an old man, long white hair settling over his shoulders.
He looks annoyed at first but then his face relaxes when he sees you.
“I can pay for the drink!” you tell him apologetically.
“Oh, that’s alright, gorgeous, it was just a mistake” he answers you, smiling.
‘Okay...’ you think as you get a weird feeling in your gut.
“Would you like me to buy you-”
“Okay, Bye” you cut him off, smiling awkwardly, feeling uncomfortable with the way he was looking at you; you reach for the door and leave the pub.
It suddenly gets much quieter, and you feel yourself relax, finally being able to breathe.
Honestly, you didn’t really get a call from anyone, you were just feeling tired, and wanted to take a break from all the noise.
You check the time on your phone,
11:54 P.M
You sigh, ‘I wanna go back home...’
It’s not that you weren’t having fun with Hina and her friends, but you were frankly not that close with them, and even though they are all very nice, having to be social for a long time takes a toll on your mental and physical strength sometimes.
Startled, you turn around when you hear the door of the pub open again behind you.
“Hey,” you hear Hina say as she approaches you, “is everything okay?”
“Yeah sorry, that was just my mom checking up on me” you lie to her, putting your phone back in your bag.
She nods, but you know she's slightly suspicious of your answer as she eyes you carefully
“You tired?” she asks you.
You chuckle nervously, ‘well, that didn’t take long’.
“Yeah, I'm really sorry, it’s getting late and it’s kind of been a long day”
She chuckles, “It’s okay, I thought your battery might have run out by now”
You couldn’t help but chuckle as well. Then you look at her apologetically.
“Yeah, I think I might head home for the night, is that alright with you?” you ask her, feeling bad you couldn’t stay longer.
She laughs and goes in to hug you goodbye, “You know it’s fine, I’m just glad I got to see you today! But, promise me we would hangout together again soon?”
You sigh, relieved, “you know I'd cancel any plans I have, just to see you” you shake your head as you hug her back.
“And promise me you’ll think about that date I wanna set you up on” she giggles as you both let go.
“Yeah, yeah, I'll think about it” you reply, used to her trying to set you up on these blind dates that you don’t necessarily really want to go to.
“Alright. You want me to call you a cab or walk you home?” she asks as you turn around and start leaving.
“No! It’s fine, my house is literally a couple of blocks away, go back! Have fun!” you say assuring her, and waving her to go back and hangout with her friends.
“Are you sure, y/n?”
“Yess! Go!” you tell her, and turn back around, walking away again.
-~-~-
After walking for a few minutes, you notice how quiet it was outside, except for the few open pubs you passed by earlier. I mean, it wasn’t really a huge surprise, it was getting pretty late, and almost all stores in the area were closed at that point. But, because you weren’t usually out that late at night all alone, it somehow made it feel even emptier and quieter.
You look up at the sky as you walk on the sidewalk and notice a few stars scattered along the night sky. It makes you smile and you close your eyes and take a deep breath.
‘I wonder how many of those are actually just satellites...’ you think to yourself as you open your eyes, and you can’t help but let out a small chuckle.
You feel your phone vibrate and notice you got a text message.
1 NEW MESSAGE
You open it.
FROM ‘Wifeyy <3’: “Heyy! Text me when you get home safe!”
You smile as you read the message, but then feel a sudden chill down your spine.
‘Weird...’
You put your phone down and suddenly start hearing faint footsteps behind you.
‘Alright, that’s fine... it’s just someone walking home as well’ you try to assure yourself but can’t help but still feel anxious.
After a few minutes, you still hear the foot steps behind you, slowly getting closer. That, somehow, making you feel more anxious.
‘I’m just overthinking this right?’
You try to increase your pace, to check if they really were following you. Even if they weren’t, you hope to try and lose them all together. It didn’t help that the way to your apartment would be to keep walking straight, and the alleys around the buildings on the way were blocked off at the ends, not making it any safer for you to try and find a way around.
But then you hear the person behind you increase their pace as well.
‘Fuck’ you think, feeling scared and panicked, ‘they're definitely following me, aren’t they?’
You panic as you think of what to do next, then decide to take out your phone and call someone.
‘Who the fuck do I call? Hina? The police? I-’
Your thoughts are interrupted when you hear someone yell something from the sidewalk on the other side of the street you were walking on.
Your head snaps to where the voice came from and you notice a guy running up to you, “Babe?”
You try to back away before the boy reaches you, but, “I’ve been waiting for you, what took you so long?” he asks, pulling you in for a hug.
“I don’t know yo-!”
“Someone’s following you” he whispers in your ear before letting you complete your sentence.
Your heart stops when you hear him say that and you begin to feel your eyes tear up.
He pulls away, looking at you, and you suddenly notice you stopped hearing the footsteps coming from behind you.
You look back and see a man standing in the middle of the street, your eyes widen when you notice his long white hair.
‘That’s the fucking creepy old guy from the pub, I knew he seemed off!’
“My name is Suna. I was just in that supermarket over there, on the other side of the street, when I noticed him following you” he tells you quietly, as he subtly points at a store behind him. You look over his shoulder and notice a small, old looking supermarket, with an ‘Open 24/7′ neon light flickering over it. “Do you want me to walk you back home?” the boy asks you, and your eyes snap back to him.
You’re then able to see him much clearer, his pale, yellow eyes looking into yours. He had a blank expression on his face but you could hear a hint of worry in his voice.
You feel a tear roll down your cheek and you hesitantly nod at him.
“It’s okay, it’s okay, I'm here” you hear him say as he puts an arm around you, pulling you closer, and walks with you in the direction you were originally going in.
After a few moments, you hear the footsteps behind you, again, but this time they started to sound more distant, as if the creepy, old guy was walking away.
Your heart starts calming down a bit as you both walk silently for a few minutes.
You then feel the boy remove his arm from around you and you slightly stumble.
‘Was he supporting me this whole time..?’ you think to yourself as you try to steady yourself back on your own feet.
He turns around, “I’m sure he’s gone by now” he tells you, looking back at you.
You turn around to check as well, and feel yourself finally be able to breathe again when you don’t see anyone behind you. You look back at the boy and nod.
“You live around here?” he asks you and you finally notice where you were.
Realizing you were only about a block away from your house, you stop.
“What?” the boy asks as he turns around to face you, when he realizes you weren't walking next to him anymore.
“This is me” you answer quickly, pointing to a random building you were standing in front of.
He was nice enough to help you back there, so, it's not that you weren’t thankful, but you were still feeling a bit anxious, and you didn’t want to take any chances.
“Oh,” the boy says, looking up at the building you pointed to, then looks back to you, “I'll watch you go in” he continues, putting his hands in his pockets.
“Oh, uhm, okay..” you nervously say, turning to the building.
‘Shit... I hope the entrance door isn’t locked...’
You reach for the door and push it.
‘Oh, thank god...’ you sigh, relieved.
You quickly turn back to look at him again, and notice his eyes following you.
“Thank you”
He just nods at you, a blank expression still on his face.
You get inside the building and the door closes behind you. You weren’t sure if he was looking so you make your way to the elevators. You pretend you pressed a button, hoping he stopped looking at you through the glass door at that point.
You look behind you and notice he wasn’t there anymore, so you run slowly towards the door and see him walking away.
You place a hand on your heart, and sigh again. You close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.
‘Why does it feel like it’s been a really long night...?’
You decide to wait for a few minutes, making sure he wouldn’t still be around the area when you try to run to where you actually lived. It was probably a couple of buildings away so, if you make a quick run for it, you think, you would definitely make it.
You open the glass door slowly and take a quick peak around the street.
‘Nobody’s here...’
You take a quick breath before you make a run for it.
As you thought, it easily took you a minute or two to get to your building. You quickly push the entrance door and run to elevators.
As soon as it arrives, you get in and press the floor you lived on.
A few moments pass before the elevator doors open and you can't help but breathe a sigh of relief as you’re welcomed with your usual empty, but now comforting hallway.
You step out and head for your apartment when you notice someone standing at the door opposite yours at the end of that hallway, trying to unlock it.
‘Oh, it’s probably the new tenant...’ you think as you walk to your door.
It was pretty silent so you decide to at least welcome them, hoping it would make the awkward silence less... awkward.
“Hey,” you say turning to face them when you get to your door, “You’re the new tenant, righ-” but you quickly stop and your eyes widen when the person turns around to face you.
‘Wait, isn’t he the guy that just walked me back ‘home’??’
He still carried a blank expression on his face, but you notice his eyes slightly widen when he notices who you were as well.
‘Fuck, Fuck, Fuck... What do I say?’ you panic as you both stand there, looking at each other.
“Oh, you live here?” he breaks the silence, sounding pretty calm.
“Oh, yeah,” you say turning around and quickly unlock your door and go in, “Goodnight!” you yell, panicked.
You accidentally make eye contact with him one last time before you swiftly close the front door, leaving him there, looking blankly at your apartment door instead.
‘He’s my new neighbor??’

The Domino Effect
In which one cold becomes seven in the short span of a week.
Tumblr media
snz-centric featuring OT7 as the sickies and OT7 as the caretakers, lol.
Word Count: 4715
a/n: Firstly I just wanted to thank you guys (as per usual) with how patience you all are with me. (Not just now, but always.) As some of you know, I had a pretty big move take place recently (as well as restarting uni) and both of these events really ate up a huge chunk of my free time. That being said, I’m happy to finally have this up and ready for you all! I wrote it...slightly differently to how I normally write, so I really hope you all end up enjoying it. Thank you again!
*
Day 1
It starts with Jimin — somehow it always does. He wakes up with a runny nose and a pounding headache; a horrible foreshadowing of what’s yet to come. He feels awful and wants nothing more than to spend the entire day in bed, but he knows it doesn’t work like that. It never works like that. Even with their upcoming week off Jimin is more than certain they’ll somehow manage to stay busy.
Reluctantly he pulls himself from bed and makes to get ready. It’s a slow and sluggish start, but it’s the best he can manage. At least he’s out of bed, he thinks to himself, as he stares at his disheveled appearance in the bathroom mirror.
If the bags under his eyes were anything to go by, then it was definitely going to be a long, horrible day.
*
“hh-h! hhi’Ttshhiuew!”
“Hyung...you’re not getting sick, are you?”
Jimin turns in the direction of the maknae and frowns into his palms. His hands are still cupped around his nose from when he had sneezed just a moment prior, and he drags them down the lower half of his face with an annoyed grimace.
“That’s like the fourth time you’ve sneezed in the last half hour.”
“I’m not getting sick.” Jimin grumbles as he pulls a tissue from the box conveniently stationed atop the side table to his right. “I am sick.”
“You’re sick?” Comes a deep voice from the living room doorway. Both boys turn to find Taehyung staring at Jimin with a concerned look on his face.
“It’s just a cold, I think.” Jimin admits with a self-pitying sigh before blowing his nose. He had no intention to broadcast the news, but realistically he knew it was only a matter of time before the rest of the group found out. “I’m okay, Tae.” He adds afterwards. “Just stuffy.”
Jungkook wastes no time hoisting himself up from the couch as Taehyung trudges his way inside the living room and plops down heavily next to Jimin.
“Sorry you don’t feel well, hyung, but I really can’t get sick right now.” Jungkook apologizes as he makes his way to the doorway. To Jimin, his apology truly does sound sincere which he guesses he appreciates. Jungkook was a magnet for colds in a similar fashion to himself so he felt like he could understand where the younger’s apprehension was coming from.
“Don’t worry, Gguk-ah.” Jimin hums with a sniffle as Taehyung presses the back of his hand against his forehead. “I understand.”
Jungkook nods back and offers a quick, “Get well soon.” before exiting the room.
Jimin turns his attention to Taehyung while the other’s hand is still firmly pressed against his forehead. The look on his face tells Jimin that what he feels can’t be very good.
“You’re a little warm.” Taehyung admits solemnly, and it makes Jimin frown again. He tries to scoot himself further down the couch away from his friend but Taehyung proceeds to lean in closer anyway.
“Tae, don’t.” Jimin warns as he swipes the back of his sleeve against his nose. “I don’t want to get you sick. You should go with Jungkook-ah, instead.”
Taehyung shakes his head and fully leans his weight onto Jimin.
“I never get sick.” He boasts as he readjusts himself until he’s able to rest his head against Jimin’s midsection. “So I’m not leaving.”
Jimin knows this is a blatant lie but he simply sighs in defeat. Besides, he would always get a bit clingy during an illness and admittedly Taehyung’s impromptu cuddling was actually very comforting.
“This is a bad idea.” Jimin murmurs, but he’s pulling a blanket from the back of the couch down onto the both of them. “If you get sick I’m going to get in trouble.”
“I won’t, therefore you won’t.” Taehyung reassures with a yawn which Jimin reciprocates. He had only been awake for a few hours but was already starting to feel drowsy again. He lets one of his arms drape lazily across Taehyung’s back. The other hums happily.
“Alright,” Jimin huffs as his heavy eyelids start to flutter closed. “If you say so.”
*
Day 2
When Taehyung wakes up with a scratchy throat and stinging sinuses the next morning he is, admittedly, not very surprised about it. He knew cuddling with Jimin was a risky endeavour but he also was aware of how touch starved his friend would get when he started to feel less than his best. Therefore, at least in Taehyung’s mind, the pain in his throat was absolutely worth it if it meant Jimin felt even the littlest bit comforted.
*
Taehyung waddles into the kitchen with an uncharacteristic sluggishness that doesn’t at all seem appropriate for 3:30pm. He’s still wearing the same clothes he slept in the night prior, and his hair looks like a tangled, unruly mess atop his head.
Three members sit chatting around the dinner table but the conversation is quick to fizzle when Taehyung enters. He can feel the three sets of eyes on him but he doesn’t react, and instead simply continues his way to the fridge to look for something to eat.
“Are you still in your pajamas?” Asks Namjoon with a wrinkled brow. He exchanges a look with both Seokjin and Jungkook before his eyes trail first to his watch, and then back to Taehyung and his rumpled appearance.
“I am.” Responds the singer as he directs a wet cough into one of his fists before tugging open the fridge door.
“Do you know what time it is?” Inquires Seokjin as he watches Taehyung dig haphazardly through the group’s shared fridge.
“I do.” Taehyung retorts, this time with a thick sniffle as he settles on a container of two day old jjigae that had been hidden behind a bowl of cold rice.
“Are you alright?” Jungkook pipes up warily, already having somewhat of an inclination about what might be going on. “You didn’t catch Jimin’s cold, did you?”
Taehyung slams the fridge closed and spins on his heels with a smile that stretches across his face insincerely.
“I did.” Is what he responds with before he’s sucking in a sharp breath and sneezing a harsh “hH’EESSSHHh’hiuh!” that he directs towards the floor. The jjigae sloshes loudly around in its container in time with the singer’s sudden movement.
“Jimin-ah’s sick?” Namjoon asks with raised eyebrows as Taehyung clears his throat loudly and drags his feet towards the microwave. “I had no idea.”
“Tae-yah now too, apparently.” Seokjin adds with a bit of a huff before turning his attention to the disheveled singer right as he sets his jjigae into the microwave. “Yah. Taehyung-ah. I don’t want anybody else to catch this. Where’s Jimin-ah? You should both be in bed.”
“Jimin is in bed.” Taehyung confirms as he watches his stew spin slowly through the microwave door. “We’ve both been in bed all day.”
“Well then get back to bed!” Seokjin instructs as he stands from his chair. He makes his way over to Taehyung and starts attempting to shoo him away, but Taehyung’s feet stay firmly planted. “Please, just...let hyung finish this for you.”
Taehyung opens his mouth to object but the beeping of the microwave cuts him off. He does his best to side-step his eldest hyung and pops open the appliance, instantly filling the room with the comforting aroma of warm jjigae. Seokjin can’t help but sigh.
“Finish your jjigae and then head back to bed, okay? Do as hyung says.” He stares at Taehyung waiting for a response. When the singer eventually nods Seokjin smiles wide and pats his shoulder approvingly. “If you need anything just text me or Joon-ah. I’m going to go check on Jimin.”
“I’ll join you.” Namjoon grunts as he pushes himself from his seat. “I can’t believe I didn’t notice he was sick.” He adds to no one in particular before he follows Seokjin down the hall. Taehyung simply shrugs and plops himself down across the table from Jungkook, coughing lightly into a fist as he does so.
Taehyung is too engrossed in his jjigae to notice the way Jungkook eyes him nervously before finally speaking up.
“I...should probably go.”
“Go? Where?” Taehyung asks with a sniffle and a light cough. He brings another spoonful of jjigae to his mouth as he waits for the maknae’s response.
“Anywhere else.” Is the best Jungkook can come up with. It makes Taehyung snort which in turn quickly morphs into a cough.
“I’m not going to get you sick, Gguk-ah.” He manages after his coughing settles. “You’re not even close to me. You won’t catch it.”
“You caught it from Jimin.”
“Yeah, because we napped together.” Taehyung scoffs. “You’ll be fine. Unless you had plans to nap with me?”
Taehyung can’t stop himself from laughing when Jungkook kicks him under the table.
“Just stay and finish your lunch. You’ll be fine, trust me.” He pauses to sniffle before continuing. “If you get sick then I’ll pay you ten thousand Won.”
“You’re making bets?”
“It’s not a bet if I know I won’t lose.”
Taehyung shoots him a boxy smile when Jungkook simply stares back at him blankly. The older boy knows he’s won when Jungkook takes an apprehensive bite of his meal.
“...If you get me sick you’re paying me twenty thousand Won.”
Taehyung smirks. “I’ll make it thirty.”
*
Day 3
The first thing Jungkook does when he wakes up the next morning is text Kim Taehyung.
I’d like my 30k Won by the end of the day.
He doesn’t wait for the other’s response before he flops back down into bed with a low, congested groan. He should’ve known better than to have stayed to eat with Taehyung. His hyung never won bets, but he had seemed so confident that Jungkook had let that confidence blind him. Now he was paying the price for it, but at least he was thirty thousand Won richer.
*
“...What are you doing?”
Jungkook twists his upper body in the direction of Namjoon’s voice but doesn’t break his gaze away from his bedroom’s bright overhead lights.
“I have to sneeze.” He announces quietly under his breath, as if speaking at a normal volume would somehow break his concentration. “You have to...sneeze?” Namjoon repeats slowly from the maknae’s doorway, to which the other simply nods. “...Please don’t tell me you’re sick now, too.”
Another nod. It’s all Jungkook can manage as he feels his breath start to catch. He can’t see the way Namjoon’s shoulders slump in defeat upon the realization that there was now yet another sick member to worry about.
“hhE’ATSHhhiu!” Jungkook finally snaps down with a sneeze he catches into cupped hands. He groans in relief as he straightens back up, sniffling thickly enough to make himself, as well as Namjoon, cringe at the sound.
Namjoon shakes his head and lets out a heavy, tired sigh as he eyes the maknae up and down. His stoic gaze makes Jungkook nervous and he can’t help but fidget as he scrubs at his nose with a sleeve from his oversized hoodie.
“...Not you too, Gguk-ah.”
The disappointment in Namjoon’s voice isn’t so easily hidden and leaves Jungkook feeling like a child being scolded. He can’t help but feel bad even though he knows getting sick isn’t his fault.
“We can’t have anyone else getting sick. Our break isn’t going to last for much longer.”
“I know, hyung.” Jungkook murmurs quietly as he lets his chin fall against his chest.
It was never his intention to cause the group any problems or to stress out Namjoon, and he hated getting sick just as much as his hyung hated that he had gotten sick.
“I’m not mad at you.” The leader assures with a warm smile as he makes his way over to the maknae and places his hand onto his shoulder. “Don’t get in your head about this. It wasn’t your fault.” He lets out another sigh and, despite his words of reassurance, it still manages to make Jungkook feel bad again.
“If you need anything, just...come to me only, alright? Same goes for Jimin and Taehyung. I don’t want this to keep spreading so I’m going to tell the others to give you all some space. At least until you all stop being contagious.”
“But what about you?” Jungkook asks as he sniffles sharply, his big doe eyes staring up at his leader.
“I’ll be fine, I promise. I’ll wear a mask and make sure to wash my hands.” He smiles confidently down at Jungkook as his dimples make a quick appearance on his cheeks. “This is ending with you.”
For one reason or another, Jungkook finds a bit of comfort in his hyung’s words. He already felt guilty about catching the cold, he didn’t need the added guilt of passing it along to somebody else.
“Now promise me you’ll stay put, okay?” Namjoon instructs with a warm smile. “And just let me know what you need.”
*
Day 4
Namjoon stares at his reflection in the bathroom mirror for much longer than necessary. His complexion is pale, his nose a soft pink, and his eyes glassy and dull. He wishes in that moment that he could simply wipe what he sees away, almost as if his blushing nose and sweaty brow were just fingerprint smudges on the reflective glass.
Finally, after he can’t take the sight of himself any longer, he drops his head and sighs in defeat. The sudden gravity shift makes his nose run, and he sniffles to try to contain it, wincing as the soupy sound reaches his ears.
He had definitely caught the cold, and there was no way he could deny it.
*
“hh’KTx’chieu! hA’NnGtx! hh!!—iNGxt!”
Namjoon can feel Seokjin set a hand onto his back as he blinks wearily up at him from behind a tissue.
“Oh, Joon-ah.” His hyung coos as he takes a seat next to the other. “You sound terrible.”
“Not as bad as it sounds…” Namjoon grumbles back before taking a deep breath and giving his nose a harsh blow.
Seokjin winces at the productive sound, and when he glances over at Hoseok and Yoongi, he can see that they each have a grimace that matches his own.
“How was Taehyung?” Seokjin asks Hoseok with a sigh, his hand never leaving Namjoon’s back as he waits for an answer.
“He was asleep when I checked in on him.” Hums Hoseok. “I left a bottle of water for when he wakes up.”
“Good.” Seokjin turns his attention to Yoongi, patting Namjoon’s back as the leader begins to cough. “And Jimin?”
“He still has a small fever.” Yoongi relays. “But nothing to be concerned about.”
“Mm, we’ll have to keep an eye on it. Has anyone gone to see —”
“Jungkook’s fine.” Croaks Namjoon as he pinches his nose with a tissue. “I checked on him this m’borning.”
“Joon-ah,” Seokjin warns gently. “Let us take care of things from now on.”
“I’mb not dying.” Namjoon scoffs, but it’s quick to turn from a light chuckle into a painful cough. “I can still help out.” He manages to squeak once he’s finished.
“You’ll be more helpful if you just stay in bed.” Seokjin chuckles. “Our hands are full with the other three. I don’t want to have to be worrying about you, too.”
“But you’ll all get sick.” Namjoon shakes his head. “I can’t let that happen. Our break’s alm’bost over and we’re going to be so— so bus-hh—! hH’nGXt’shiue!”
Seokjin smiles sympathetically as Hoseok and Yoongi exchange a quick, knowing look.
“Us getting sick isn’t something you can control, Joon-ah.” Seokjin notes as if Namjoon doesn’t know. “If it happens, it happens. Until it does, we’ll take over from here. You rest.”
“But I just—”
“—Need to trust your hyungs.” Seokjin interrupts before pushing himself up from the leader’s bed with a huff. Namjoon’s mouth stays shut as he watches the singer make his way over to Hoseok and Yoongi.
“I’m going to make everyone some lunch, but I expect you to try and get some sleep after you finish. Alright?”
Namjoon simply nods. He doesn’t feel like the leader anymore and instead, just a sick, exhausted dongsaeng. He wouldn’t admit it, but letting go of his responsibility as leader in this moment sends waves of relief through his achy body.
“Good. Now you two, come with me, please. I could use some help in the kitchen.”
Day 5
Seokjin wakes hours before he intends to with a horrible ache in his throat. He brings a hand up to rest against his tender neck and flinches at the touch of his own fingers. He sighs, but it isn’t out of annoyance, and instead more so due to disappointment. He knew this would happen to him eventually — it really was inevitable — but he had hoped he’d be the last member to fall ill. Now, his plans of helping his dongsaengs had been tragically cut short.
He lets out another congested sigh. At this point, it really didn’t matter. He was sick and there wasn’t anything he could do about it besides roll back over and try and get a few extra hours of restless sleep.
*
“Jin-hyung!” Hoseok calls as he raps his knuckles against the eldest member’s bedroom door. “Taehyung spent the whole night coughing, so I got him to take some cough syrup. Yoongi said Jimin’s mostly just stuffed up and that his fever is starting to break. Have you checked on Joon-ah and Jungkook-ah yet?”
Seokjin rolls over lazily and turns his head towards his bedroom door. Hoseok’s announcement wastes no time waking him up, which he supposes is a good thing considering it was now pushing 12pm. He opens his mouth to respond to the other, but instead what comes out is a series of low, chesty coughs.
“...Yah! Yoongi-hyung!” He hears the other call as his bedroom door begins to creak open. “Go check on the other two, please! I think the cold’s made its way to hyung.”
“Hobi-yah,” Seokjin chokes out between coughs. “Don’t come too close.”
“I’ve already been helping the others, hyung.” Hoseok chuckles as he shuts the door behind himself. “I’m going to catch it, but that’s okay. I don’t mind colds. I’d take one over the stomach flu.”
Seokjin doesn’t object because there’s no reason to. He knows Hoseok is right — at this point, him and Yoongi are absolutely doomed. He may as well just accept the help being offered to him instead of pushing the younger away.
The singer lets his shoulders slump as one final cough forces its way out of him. When he speaks again, his voice is hoarse, and each word he utters feels like hot knives are being dragged down his windpipe.
“Hosoek-ah…” He croaks. “Do you have any water?”
Hoseok is quick to nod and wastes no time pulling out a plastic water bottle from his back pocket.
“I brought this for Taehyung but he didn’t want it.” Informs the dancer as he unscrews the cap and offers it to Seokjin. “You should try not to talk, hyung.”
Seokjin nods in solidarity and takes a swig from the bottle. The water feels like liquid fire as it trickles down his sore throat, but it’s a pain he welcomes. Staying hydrated meant getting better quicker, and he would drink a hundred water bottles if it meant waking up with an unclogged nose the next morning.
“Thank you for this.” The eldest whispers, being careful not to damage his throat further. “If you two don’t care then I think I might make myself…” He notices Hoseok raise an eyebrow at him when he begins to trail off, but he can’t finish his sentence even if he wanted to. An itch in the very back of his nose demands his full attention, and it isn’t long before he’s thrusting the open bottle back into Hoseok’s hands and jerking away from the other as fast as he can.
“hH’DDSHHhh!” He sneezes hard and loud, each syllable of the expulsion scraping its way out of his throat. He whimpers immediately at the fiery pain that burns his windpipe, and glances up at Hoseok with watery eyes. The dancer looks as if he is about to speak, but Seokjin gives him no time to try when a second, harsher sneeze rips out of him. “HAh’DISSHh’iEuw!”
“Oh, hyunghyunghyung!” Hoseok bounces from foot to foot as Seokjin whimpers yet again, the sad noise mimicking that of an injured animal. “Your throat!”
Seokjin just nods as he brings a hand up to cup his neck, the other coming up to wipe away the tears that had been forced from his eyes.
“Could you…” He breathes, his voice barely above a whisper. “...Tea?”
It isn’t a proper sentence, but Hoseok seems to understand.
“I was just thinking the same thing. Yoongi and I will get that started.”
“...Honey?”
“And lemon.” Hoseok confirms with a small smile and a nod. “We’ll make enough for the others, too.”
Seokjin gives a small, strained smile of approval which Hoseok seems satisfied with. He reaches out and gives Seokjin’s shoulder a quick squeeze before he sets down the water bottle onto the singer’s bedside table and scurries out of the room to get the kettle boiling.
As soon as he’s out of earshot Seokjin collapses back onto his pillow with a sick, congested groan. Hoseok was a lifesaver, and the tea just couldn’t get there fast enough.
*
Day 6
‘I think I’m dying’ is the text Hoseok decides to send the members when he wakes up the next morning feeling as though he’s been hit by a bus.
Even the tiniest movement makes his body ache, and he almost wishes that he’d never be asked to move again in his entire life. It was at this moment that he felt he could understand Yoongi’s desire to be reincarnated as a rock. He entertains the idea for himself for a moment, but because he can’t guarantee someone wouldn’t pick him up and try to skip him across a lake, the thought is quickly abandoned.
A tortoise might be good, he thinks. Or maybe a sloth.
*
With more members now sick than not, Hoseok isn’t surprised when he finally wanders out of his room to find the others scattered throughout the dorm. Seokjin is making a fresh pot of tea, Namjoon is quietly reading, Jimin and Taehyung are watching a movie, and Jungkook is trying to solve a rubix cube. The only person Hoseok can’t seem to spot is Yoongi, which he supposes is a good thing. With their break nearly over in a mere few days it was smart that the last healthy member had chosen to keep to himself.
“So you’re alive, afterall.”
Hoseok turns to spot Seokjin smiling at him as he pours out a cup of tea. His voice is still croaky but not nearly as horrible as yesterday, much to Hoseok’s relief.
“Yeah.” Hoseok snorts, though he really doesn’t find Seokjin’s comment all that funny. “Looks that way.”
He averts eye contact when Seokjin’s smile turns sympathetic, and brings the back of his wrist up to scrub at his nose.
“I’m sorry you’re not feeling well.” Seokjin offers as he pulls a second mug down from a cupboard. Hoseok wonders if it will be for him.
“You too.” He hums, watching hopefully as Seokjin pours out a second cup of tea.
“Throat?” Seokjin asks as he passes over one of the mugs to Hoseok who accepts it graciously. “Nose? Head?”
“Body.” The dancer replies solemnly as he blows on his hot drink. “I feel like I’ve been run over.”
Seokjin winces and shakes his head. He doesn’t say anything, but Hoseok can tell he feels guilty.
“It was only a matter of time, hyung.” Hoseok reassures the other as he gives his nose another quick scrub. It is beginning to itch and he scrunches it up in an attempt to make it stop. “At least Yoongi’s still...hhhangonIthinkI—hhah! hA’ITSHhh!” Hoseok spins to the side and sneezes hard into his shoulder, doing his best to keep his mug of tea steady in the process. When he doesn’t immediately straighten back up, Seokjin is quick to remove the full mug from his hands.
“hAH’ITSHhh’EUh!” He sneezes again, this time bringing his now free hands up to cup his nose and mouth. The motion bends him at the waist, and when he stands back up he’s grimacing from the achy pain that shockwaves through his muscles.
“There’s tissues in the living room, if you need.” Seokjin says softly as he extends the mug of tea back out to the other. “Next to Jimin, I think.”
Jimin lifts the box up in confirmation.
“There’s lots to go around.” He jokes, before quickly pulling one out for himself and sneezing delicately into it.
“There won’t be for much longer if they stay next to him.” Teases Namjoon from behind the pages of his book; but the way he sniffles afterwards makes Hoseok think he could probably use one, too.
*
Day 7
Yoongi waddles into the kitchen at quarter after ten and wastes no time brewing himself a pot of coffee. He runs his fingers through his sleep-tousled hair and stifles a yawn against a clenched fist as he directs an acknowledging nod towards the living room where Jimin and Namjoon were sat chatting. The dorm is unusually quiet despite the other members being scattered throughout, but Yoongi can't really say that he minds. In fact, he welcomes the near-silence; it was a fleeting luxury when you lived with so many other people.
He watches his coffee brew with his elbow propped up comfortably against the kitchen counter and his chin in his hand. The fingers of his free hand drum rhythmically against the sleek countertop; it's a melody that he has been working on for weeks that refused to leave his mind.
The whole moment feels very serene to him, and is a nice reward after the chaos that had ensued during their week off. He lets himself bask in it for a moment, but it is unceremoniously cut short when his nose chooses to itch at that particular instant.
Sighing, Yoongi is quick to clamp his nostrils shut as the need to sneeze overcomes him. He sucks in a sharp, stuttering breath and dips forcefully into himself with a stifle that is almost completely silent.
“hi’Ngxt!”
He blows out a breath and straightens back upright, dragging his hand away from his face in a slow, deliberate motion as he pulls his sleeves up and over his hands. He has every intention to focus back on his brewing coffee, but an inquiry from Namjoon interrupts him.
“Was that a sneeze?” Asks the leader, which in turn makes Jimin’s attention shift onto him.
Yoongi simply hums in affirmation, a bored expression stuck firmly on his face. Namjoon frowns when he sniffles.
“Hyung, have you caught it?” Namjoon questions, but Yoongi can tell by his tone that he already knows what the answer is. “I was hoping it might miss you.”
“Actually, I caught something about a week ago.” Informs the eldest rapper as he sniffles again, his eyes refocusing in on his coffee pot. “Haven’t been able to shake it yet.”
A silence falls amongst the trio that lasts for a solid minute. Jimin is the first to break it.
“Are you telling me that I caught this from you?”
Yoongi shrugs.
“Probably.”
“Hyung!” He jumps up from his seat and directs a quick cough into his wrist. “This whole time I thought I started this. I can’t believe—” He shakes his head in disbelief. “Why didn’t you tell us you were sick?”
“You didn’t ask.” Yoongi responds nonchalantly as he swipes his forefinger beneath his nose.
He doesn’t notice the way Jimin's mouth flaps open and closed at his response, or the way Namjoon lets his head fall back onto the couch in defeat. Instead, what he notices is the way his coffee maker chimes in completion, and the way the kitchen fills with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. He can’t help but smile to himself.
Nothing was better than coffee.

The Line Is Erased: Day 24: SINGING THE SONG OF ANGRY MEN!
Hello there! This is the first time I write a RQG fic and it’s going to be…rusty (NO IT’S NOT A PUN). Since I don’t want to be depressing AF and I FUCKING KNOW MYSELF, I am going to choose to write from outsider’s PoV, with a teeny tiny group of characters that just happen to be around on the background.
Also, after writing the first one I realised how much this podcast motivates me to keep saying “yes” to my friends’ campaigns and that is always a good choice for many reasons, so this is homage to all of us, people playing as our always very particular characters and suffering because of dices and masters!
So…that is that.
Here is my contribution for Day 24: Paris + The crack in the ceiling bringing the house down (house might not be the most appropriate term), prompts given by @the-line-is-erased on Tumblr.
From now on, I found the perfect excuse to officially start my relisten of the show! HAHA! Well, at first it is going to be a bit silly: choosing an episode that cover at least one of the prompts to have it MORE THAN FRESH. This time, ep. 54. (I SWEAR I DIDN’T REMEMBER HOW EMOTIONAL ZOLF’S MORAL QUANDRUM GOT BY THE END, THAT MOMENT WAS SO GOOD).
Do forgive me for any possible screw-ups (as well as for my quick tipper, non-native speaker writer).
Allons-y!
TW: mentions of suicide
“Ok, we managed to use the special juice of Paris right before it went down…one wonders how that happened, uh. Man; that was almost as close as some uni deadlines…”
“For the last time Nym, don’t bring in university issues to my game. Also, the comment about the Paris supercomputer going down? A bit too meta.”
“I thought you loved meta Aurora.”
“Yes, but…never mind, we are just going to pretend nobody else heard your comment…you were talking to your Goddess, fine?”
“Do I have any saying?”
“NOPE.”
Nym blinked a couple of times, what has that been?
“Did you say something?” Tara inquired.
“Religious business” the rest of her party, one of the less religious groups one could ever wish to find, just pretended not to be cynical about it and they kept going on circles in the room, while deciding what to do next.
After a few eternal minutes, she stood up. She wasn’t about to go into the unknown without a good reason (she had never been the reckless type), but she was getting far too bored and, even though she hadn’t been previously speaking to her goddess, the paladin knew she would soon contact her and, maybe, this time she was the one that had to go after Nemesis.
She had a feeling about it.
She heard the sound of a dice; she knew her companions hadn’t caught up with what that sound meant (it wasn’t as if she was cent per cent sure herself), but she had learnt she was about to have the chance to be pretty sure about her suspicions (or not).
YES, Nemesis wanted her to go to…The Louvre? FOR REAL?!
She loved art, that much was true but, with that horrible crystal pyramid…If Vincent wasn’t cursed with not being able to appear in cities he had put his feet on while alive, he would likely kill himself again after seeing it.
She shrugged and decided to ask around whether someone wanted to come with her, since they were apparently doing nothing at all.
“Want to come to The Louvre? Might be important for the mission.”
Tara refused with a head movement.
“Agnes and I are staying, we think we might be able to work out what these texts refer to…” the vishkanya next to her nodded in agreement and gave them a thumbs up that tried (and failed) to not be kind of threatening.
Yorick, on the other side, was on their feet the moment she opened her mouth.
“I am sure the Paris scene will love me!”
“You sure? The city felt pretty empty for a week day…”
“For now” they smirked and she sighed as saying ‘it’s your grave you are digging’.  Then, she turned to Saulis, who immediately decided to join too.
After all, Paris felt like the perfect place to test-prove one of his home-made hustles, didn’t it?
                                                     ---------------------------------
Just as they were leaving the hotel, they felt as their legs froze on place, forcing them to turn back. Then, after a couple of minutes of confusion, they realised.
“Shit! We don’t actually know the city geography!”
They went to the concierge, who had the face of someone who had had to deal with someone not worth their likely low income.
“Hi, do you have a map of the city or something?”
“You know you are speaking French, right?”
Nym felt automatically upset, HOW DID THE CONCIERGE DARED TO DOUBT HER LANGUAGE ABILITIES.
“Of course I am; why would you ask such a question…pal?”
“Boy is fine (I guess…). It’s just…making sure, some…guests. Here you go” he handled them the map and they now felt capable of leaving the building.
She hated when her body decided not to respond correctly. Like on fights; why did she patiently wait until other people were doing whatever?
Dumb biology, she guessed.
                                    ---------------------------------
They lost Saulis when, after a pale woman clumsily tried to stole something from the market and a crowd imitated her act, every one of the street stopped paying attention to some locals of expensive firms that were, curiously enough, closed with extremely complex locks on them (the tiefling’s favourites).
He had some robbing to do.
Then, there they were; at the feet of the crystal pyramids
“Ugly” Yorick commented, and she nodded.
A gargoyle passed nearby and they both waved at it.
Then, Nemesis spoke to her and she started climbing the thing up to the top while Yorick just froze in place, too shocked to do anything.
Once on top, the dices’ sound appeared again.
“Shit. I guess I only make a small breach…”
“And only because you brought me chocolate cookies with almonds.”
“Aurora, your generosity knows no limits.”
“I am aware, shall we continue?”
“Yes, yes, I just had an idea…”
A lightbulb illuminated in Nym’s mind.
“Yorick! People were pretty mad on the streets; use the spelly-thingy to lure some of them here!”
“Why?”
“Just do it! They ought to climb this thing.”
                                          ---------------------------------
And so they did, the horrible crystal pyramid crumbling down; nobody truly noticing as revolts were filling the whole city.
“So…why wanted Nemesis to destroy that…thing?”
Nym dismissed her own answer with a hand gesture.
“Nothing important; she hated it and thought I had been asking for too many favours lately.”
                                            ---------------------------------
Extra notes for flavour: Nym is my character for a RPG my friend created (bless his patience and craftsmanship) that is right now in stand-by, though both Nyms share race, gender and some basic personality traits, they are kind of pretty different in any other possible aspect. (Gosh, now I want to ‘recover’ that campaign too…)
Yeah, I made the crystal pyramids already be there (and being only one). Why? Because I bloody hate them and WANTED TO CRUSH THEM TO THE GROUND.
Also, COOKIES TO RPG SESSIONS WITH FRIENDS SUPREMACY!
As usual, likes/kudos (depending if you are reading this on Tumblr or AO3), feedback and random comments ARE SO HIGHLY APPRECIATED.
The title of the story is from the song I listen to at least once a month (in its different variations) since December of 2012: “Do You Hear the People Sing?” from Les Mis. Without that musical, I wouldn’t have fallen in love with musical theatre, saved my life helping with my struggles, make me give “36 Questions” an opportunity, which lead into me thinking “ey, maybe listen to ONE podcast on Halloween 2020”, discover TMA, which made me recover completely the writer inside of me (which improved my mental state –and, therefore, also helped physically and socially-) and also got me into podcasts…as this one (NOW I CANNOT SCAPE, PLEASE DON’T HELP).
                                   -----------------
Also, thanks to the TMA discord channel that posted this prompts! You are lovely, gracias!
Long life and prosperity,
Marla

The Old Guard- Andy x Reader (F/F)
Guess who’s back and betta than evaaa? I’m so sorry it took me almost 2 whole ass months to post the 3rd chapter. With school starting up again, the part of uni I work at got fuckin hectic. Luckily that part of my life has settled a bit (for now), and now it’s time to get back on track in other parts of my life...writing being one of them. Enjoy!
Chapter 2
Chapter 3 – Help us (I think I’m sticking to 3rd-person POV-- 2,975 word count)
Tumblr media
Darkness engulfs (y/n) as she enters the house, only able to see and follow the light from her flashlight. Her suit is weighing heavily on her body, her helmet obstructing her vision but protecting her all the same. She does her best to get out as quickly as possible, the SCBA tank only allowing for at least 30 minutes to get in, do her job, and get out. Some of (y/n)’s team are trying to extinguish the fire that just won’t let up, and the rest of them have been sent in to get people out. (Y/n) sees there’s a basement door in the kitchen. She radios in to her team that she’s going down. She can hear screams. Girls crying out for help. The further down into the basement she goes the darker it becomes. This is where the fire started. She reaches the bottom of the stairs and can hear the screams even louder now. Her flashlight shines on another door. That’s where they are. (Y/n) tries to calmly yet quickly get the door latches unlocked with her bolt cutters. Their screams are getting louder. They know they’re being saved. Before she can get the door open there’s an explosion behind her, knocking (y/n) forward…
She awakes with a start, having almost rolled off the bed. Her heart is racing, blood running cold through your body, left side of her torso throbbing with pain. (Y/n) is damp with sweat, soaking through her shirt. She searches for her lamp, but then remembers she’s not at home. She then reaches for a candle and lighter, flinching slightly at the sight of the flame.
It was just a dream.
…But it really wasn’t. It’s a memory that not even sleep can help her escape from. Before she can focus too much on what she did wrong, and what she could’ve done better, she hears a light tapping at the door. Her breathing hitches in her throat, but then releases itself when she realize it’s Nile, the light from the main room illuminating (y/n)’s—no, not her room—the guest room, probably. Not at all decorated or welcoming. It looks like a room used for storage, not being meant for personal use.
Nile whispers, “Hey, are you okay? I thought I heard crying.”
“Yeah, I’m fine, Nile. Thank you. Just a….bad dream.”
“You have those often?”
“Yeah, too often.”
“You’re not the most peaceful of sleepers then, huh? As an ex-Marine I know how that feels.”
“An ex-Marine?”
Nile stammers, “Oh, yeah, uh I was in for a few years before I got injured, and was uhmm discharged.” She tries to hold eye contact, but then looks away after a beat. (Y/n) feels like she overstepped a line she didn’t know existed.
“Oh…I’m sorry.”
“Nah, it’s okay. It was for the best, I’m sure. Maybe. I don’t know. Soooo....can I ask what you dream about?”
(y/n) sighs, “Before moving here to England I used to be a firefighter back home. We had been called out to the scene of a possible trafficking house the feds had been keeping an eye on. It had caught fire rather quickly, so we had to move just as fast, if not faster.”
(Y/n) looks down at her hands that she didn’t realize were clenched into fists. She inhales slowly so as not to cause more pain to her diaphragm, and on a shuddery exhale (y/n) releases the tension in her hands and shoulders. Fuck, my body hurts.
“I had gone down to the basement where I heard the screaming of young women and girls…kids…” A lump forms in her throat she tries to swallow down before continuing, “I was so close to getting them out, but then something went off behind me, knocking me forward. It felt like I was being tackled by a large animal or something, knocking me out cold. My dream usually ends there.”
“What happened after? In real life, I mean.”
“My team was able to get me out of there, the girls weren’t so lucky. The next thing I remember is waking up in a hospital bed about a week later. I quit shortly after when I heard the traffickers who had the girls in the house weren’t caught. I felt like I owed it to them to keep future girls from being victimized like that. I followed them here to England, but the trail ran cold about a month ago. I’ve been teaching self-defense classes to women, young girls, and non-binary kids since I’ve arrived here to be of use and pass the time, maybe make some money…oh shit, speaking of, where’s my phone? I need to contact my classes and cancel.” (Y/n) starts patting down her pockets and aimlessly checking the sheets and under pillows for her phone.
“Oh, uhm…I don’t remember you having a phone on you when we brought you. Maybe it fell out at the building?”
“Fuck. Well, I’ll contact them tomorrow when I leave from here.”
“Leave? No, you shouldn’t leave. You should stay until you’re healed up.”
“I don’t think your friends want me around for too long. I was gonna suggest I go to a hospital, but looks like you know your way around a bandage and sutures.” She says, examining her wound.
“Yeah, well, it helps to know those things out in the field. Anyway, please stay. We insist. And I’ll help you contact your class tomorrow. In the meantime, you should really get some rest. You look like shit.” She says the last part half-heartedly and with a smirk.
“Aw gee thanks, jerk”, (y/n) chuckles.
Nile starts to exit the room before (y/n) stops her. “Hey, Nile? I mean it, thank you.”
She smiles and nods before closing the door behind her. (Y/n) falls asleep as soon as her head hits the pillow and she closes her eyes, her body welcoming rest once again.
Nile makes her way up the stairs to her bedroom that she’s sharing with Andy since Andy gave (y/n) her room to recover in. That downstairs bedroom and couch in the livingroom give her easy access to the front and back doors in case something is amiss. It takes Andy too long to get settled, not used to resting in a room so far away from where possible intruders can enter. She starts to roll out of her makeshift bed to head downstairs, but Nile makes her way into the room, stopping Andy dead in her tracks.
“What do you think you’re doing?” She asks, hands on her hips.
“I can’t sleep in here, Nile. I’m sorry. I have to go downstairs and keep watch.”
“No, you don’t. Nicky and Joe agreed to take turns staying awake tonight. You need to learn how to relax. You can’t heal yourself the way we can anymore, so you need to give your body some time to rest so you don’t burn out. We’ve been over this! Any less sleep and you’ll look as exhausted as (Y/N). Jesus! You’re like a stubborn old person, too set in their w—“, before she can finish her reprimanding rant a pillow smacks her square in the face, earning a laugh from Andy, pleased that she caught Nile off guard.
“That’s not funny”, she says throwing the pillow back in Andy’s direction.
“Well, if it’s not funny then why am I still laughing?” Andy says between giggle fits. It’s becoming a common occurrence to see Andy like this. Lighthearted laughs and jokes that the guys said hadn’t ever happened this often, not in a long while, so Nile smiles and lets her have her moment before she has to dampen the mood.
“(Y/N) asked for her phone.” Andy stops laughing and instinctively reaches for the phone that lays in her coat pocket.  “She teaches a self-defense class and needs to cancel for the next few days, maybe even weeks.”
“What did you tell her?”
“That I don’t remember seeing a phone when we brought her here and that she probably dropped it at the building…She doesn’t know who or what we are, so why are you keeping it?”
“You can never be too careful, Nile. She can’t just update people on where she is and expect people not to look for her. She might not know who we are, but we need to limit her access to the outside, at least for now.” This earns her an incredulous look from Nile. “Just trust me, okay?”
“Alright, boss. Now, can you please lay back down and get some sleep?” Nile asks as she gets into her bed.
It takes Andy a while to get settled, but when she finally does she can’t seem to manage to quiet her racing thoughts.
“I can hear you thinking, Andy! What is it?”
“You said if I didn’t get sleep I’d look as exhausted as (Y/N). What did you mean by that? Was she awake when you went downstairs to lock up?”
“Uhh, yeah. She was having a nightmare about something that happened when she was a firefighter. Just before she moved here her team was sent out to a burning building, turns out that was a trafficking holding house, possibly run by the same people who run the one we raided last night. But that’s just me putting two and two together. She said her trail ran cold, so she’s been keeping busy with her classes.”
“How much does she know?”
“I don’t know. I didn’t think to ask. She looked so tired and sad, I just needed to get out of her hair so she could rest. Now, sleep!” Nile tosses a pillow at Andy’s head this time.
Andy turned on to her side so Nile wouldn’t see her still awake. I should pick (Y/N)’s brain on what she knows about those people who set that house on fire. Maybe she can help us.
(Y/N) slept through the rest of the following day, not giving Andy time to ask her what she knows, but, instead, giving Andy time to talk to Nile, Joe, and Nicky about (Y/N) and if they think she’d be willing to help.
“She’s come this far to find out who hurt, and continues to hurt, those girls. I’m sure this will give her more purpose to continue on her journey”, Joe speaks up from behind his cup of coffee.
“Should we have Copley do some digging on her? Just to see where she comes from, and maybe find any paper trails to where she’s been following those disgusting human beings through?”, Nicky says as he makes his way back to the dining table, pulling a seat from across Joe and next to Andy.
“I contacted him earlier, he’s on it. He said he’d get back to us by the end of the day. Should be hearing from him any moment now.” Andy turns her head to look at her bedroom door. Still no movement. They’ve done multiple checks on (Y/N) throughout the day. Each time they were either met with groans, signaling them to go away, or with light snoring. With drool lightly dribbling from her mouth, she’s obviously getting the kind of rest Nile wishes Andy would allow herself to get. I’ll rest when I’m dead. Reminding herself and the team that she is on borrowed time, and she doesn’t want to waste whatever time she has left worrying about menial things like resting. Though (Y/N) makes it look so comfortable.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone look so peaceful while sleeping.
She’s shaken from her thoughts as Nile scoots out of her chair to stand. “Well, I’m off to bed.”
“We’ll head in for the night as well.” Joe says, getting up and wrapping his arm around Nicky and then rubbing the middle of his back.
“Goodnight, boss” they call out in unison as they head up the stairs.
“Night.”
It’s maybe about 45 minutes after the rest of the team has gone up to bed, and a couple of glasses of vodka later, that Andy receives a message from Copley with several attachments of what he found on (Y/N).
Here’s all I could find. Hope this will suffice.
Got it. She quickly types in response. She’s curious to open the files, but it’s getting late and she wants to look at this new information with the team. She double, triple checks and locks the doors, and makes sure the windows are all securely latched. She and Nile would be taking turns watching over the house, and she has first watch. She turns off all the lights, except for a lamp in the kitchen, and makes her way upstairs to grab a few things to hold her over for the next few hours. She isn’t upstairs for more than 5 minutes when she hears a door open and close, some carefully placed footsteps, and another door squeaking open before being lightly shut. Barefoot, Andy quickly and quietly grabs her labrys from its case, shoves a gun in her pants, and swiftly makes her way downstairs and out the front door.
She stops suddenly when she realizes it’s (Y/N) walking down the driveway. She runs over to her, fearing she might be in trouble. (Y/N) turns around in shock and almost screams, but grabs at her left side and hisses in pain, having twisted her body around too quickly.
Short of grabbing her arm, Andy quietly yet sternly asks, “Where the hell do you think you’re going? It’s dark out! You could get hurt! Do you not have any sense to just stay put?”
(Y/N) all but ignores Andy and turns back towards the driveway to continue walking.
Andy walks past (Y/N) and stands in front of her. “Hey, I’m talking to you! You’re not going anywhere until we know you’re okay!”
Trying in vain to push past Andy, (Y/N) replies, “I said I’d be gone as soon as I’m feeling better, and obviously I’m feeling a lot better, so if you don’t mind—.”
Andy scoffs and puts herself back in (Y/N)’s way and gently pokes at her upper left side just over her ribs, causing (Y/N) to wince and hiss in pain. “Yeah, obviously.”
“What the hell?!” (Y/N) grits through her teeth. “Do you treat everyone you help like this?”
“No, just the stubborn ones I believe have the ability to help us in return.”
(Y/N) squints at Andy incredulously, “Help you with what?”
“Help us find the guys who burned down that house with all those girls stuck inside.”
(Y/N) stands stock still and dumbfounded. “How do you know that?”
“Nile told us about your nightmares. I also had someone do some digging on you, so I’m sure those files will tell me the same thing.”
“You had someone ‘do some digging’ on me?! You guys are crazy! Now, please MOVE!”
(Y/N) shoves her hand against Andy’s shoulder and tries again to maneuver around her, using Andy’s height against her to juke her out. It almost works, but Andy is too quick to turn around and put her leg in front of (Y/N)’s leg to trip her and hook her arms around (Y/N)’s waste to keep her from falling forward. (Y/N) groans in pain and frustration as she places a heavy heel on Andy’s bare foot. With her heel still digging into Andy’s foot, (Y/N) leans her body back and shoves her hands up into the small space between her body and Andy’s arms. With a grunt she pushes her arms out, freeing herself from Andy’s grip as Andy falls backwards. Pleased with herself, (Y/N) quickly limps away from Andy, all the while Andy is on the ground smiling, trying not to laugh at the sorry sight in front of her. She gets up and half jogs up to (Y/N), catching up with her in just a few strides. To add insult to injury, Andy keeps a steady walking pace next to (Y/N), who has broken out into a sweat.
“So…where are we going?” Andy asks, trying not to laugh at how (Y/N)’s brows furrow with frustration.
(Y/N) responds with a roll of her eyes and a huff before pleading, “Please just go away and let me leave.”
“I’m afraid I can’t do that, (Y/N). We need your help and you clearly need ours. Please just come back to the house and get some rest…Do you even know where you are?”
“No idea.”
“Then how do you know where you’re going or if you’re going in the right direction?”
“I don’t, but if I keep walking I’ll get somewhere away from you guys.”
Andy picks up her pace and places herself in front of (Y/N) again, this time placing her hands on (Y/N)’s shoulders and meeting her (e/c) eyes. “Please. Help us find those girls.”
That’s all it takes for (Y/N) to give in. She puffs air out of her mouth and looks down at their feet. She notices a small bruise forming on Andy’s foot where her heel pressed down just a moment ago, a few scrapes marking her own. She feels a pull in her stomach, an obligation to those girls who needed her and a new obligation to the girls who still need her. She feels pressure building behind her eyes, her vision blurring, and her bottom lip slightly quivering. Fuck.
When she finally looks up her eyes are glossed over with unshed tears. Now’s not the time. She clears her throat and swallows hard. “Okay”, she finally whispers. And with that she turns around and walks back towards the house with Andy following close behind. They walk in silence until they reach the door. As (Y/N) reaches for the door handle, Andy places her hand over (Y/N)’s. Their eyes meet again as Andy whispers, “Thank you.” (Y/N) nods her head slightly before entering the house.

Jojos Doing Jojo Things (with each other)✨😌
Tumblr media
*sweating as the part 5 hc asks start piling up in my inbox*
*looks at the one that mentions Jonathan*
Hello~~ I’m sorry for being criminally inactive here, I forgot during that long 6 month lockdown that I actually had a real life outside of the internet and now I have to go do real life things?? Instead of doing nothing but writing?? Crimes, I tell you.
I love the idea of Jonathan interacting with all the other jojos so I thought I’d take a little break from part 5 whump headcanons to fulfill this one :D SO HERE’S SOME SELF-INDULGENT HEADCANONS ABOUT JONATHAN DOING FUN LITTLE ACTIVITIES WITH THE OTHER JOJOS BECAUSE I KNOW WE ALL NEED IT RIGHT NOW😭😭😭
◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇
Joseph (lets say Youngseph in this case because shhh)
-Hear me out but KNITTING
-Let this man do some nice calm things please
-Joseph has absolutely no way to connect with Jonathan. Like. Nothing.
-He doesn’t see the two of them as anything alike even though they both have the star, and when it comes to connecting with such a righteous, nice dude he’s a bit :/ about it
-He also doesn’t want to do anything stupid (In his words.) He hates baking, he’s never been into reading and school, and the two can never really click with sports
-Our man Jonathan has searched his heart and soul for something to bring the two of them together but Joseph is always just not into it >:(
-He’s almost given up on connecting at all BUT—
-One thing they do have in common? Erina.
-BOOM. Johnny-boy suddenly has ideas >:)
-Joseph is really put off when Jonathan shows up with a ball of yarn and needles and in the most innocent way possible he’s like “I have something to show you ^-^”
-the first thing Joseph thinks is NO FUCKING WAY. If Caesar or his mother or anyone caught him fucking knitting he’d never be able to live it down
-So instead he just watches as Jonathan sits by the fire, and it looks really boring at first but he just starts going at it
-And of course the gears start turning and all his brain sees is “fast task?? task I can be good at? something quick my hands can do??”
-And Jonathan looks up to take a break to see Joseph perched on the edge of the chair in complete awe, but the moment he asks if he wants to know how to do it, Joseph gets really withdrawn :/
The rest of their conversation goes a little like this:
“Isn’t that meant for girls?”
“Why would hats and scarves be only for girls?”
“But its—”
“You know...I’m making Erina a matching hat and scarf for her birthday. I could use a little help with the scarf…”
“...”
“We can make it a race.”
And with a fire lighting in his eyes, Joseph accepts the contest even though he has no idea what he’s doing. But isn’t that what he does best?
-Needless to say, he becomes obsessed.
-When his greatest fear comes true and Caesar finds out, he’s too obsessed to care about the teasing
-Joseph is good at something that Caesar isn’t. Caesar is jealous. Caesar picks up knitting.
-Are knitting contests even a thing?? I don’t care because Joseph and Caesar could probably open a fucking etsy shop with all the stuff they make (and absolutely shamelessly at that)
-Anytime they meet someone new it's immediately “which hat is better?” “Joseph’s is worse, right?” “Can you start the stopwatch for us?”
-Even in his older years, he never actually stopped making things for Holy, Suzi, and even sometimes Jotaro (thought Joot wouldn’t be caught dead wearing any of it in public)
-He actually progresses past knitting and making clothes in general becomes a secret passion of his
-The hat he’s wearing in part 4? He definitely made that. And don’t even think he doesn’t send Josuke the tackiest shit in the mail
Jonathan is very proud :)
Jotaro
-Animals. Is that even a question?
-Jonathan was always more of a dog or cat person, but the moment he finds out that Jotaro’s interested in marine life? MAN GOES ALL OUT
-He not only researches the shit out of marine biology just so he can hold up a conversation with him, but he also buys A SHIT TON OF BOOKS for his favourite angst man
-We all know that Jotaro isn’t exactly a man of words, but his heart is touched when they exchange a few sentences and Jonathan shows up the next day with a book all about what they were talking about🥺
-Like—Jonathan was always scolded for never listening to his father, but when it comes to stuff like this, Jotaro swears he’s able to read his mind
-Most people can barely get him to utter a sentence, but when these two are alone they’ll talk for hours about the ocean
-Holy was actually pretty worried for a while that Jotaro rarely ever opened up to anyone, but after seeing the two of them talk it was like a weight lifted off her shoulders :)
-They go on trips all the time to study water life. First, it's just to the river a few minutes away. Then they start going out to the lake nearby, and then they’re suddenly borrowing Joseph’s private boat and going on all these “research trips” together
-Which just consist of Jotaro taking hundreds of pictures and surprisingly never shutting up about what he sees (which is definitely a first)
-They pass by snooty, rich fishermen all the time who make fun of them for only looking at the animals, and Jonathan secretly uses Hamon to attract the fish to anywhere but where the fishers are lol
-I can blame snipster on instagram for introducing me to Smiletaro but the pure happiness and smiles of happy Joot on this boat with Jonathan is like a DRUG
-Star Platinum is absolutely thrilled, and when Jonathan realizes that Star is an amazing artist, he actually buys the stand a cute little purple notebook to draw all the ocean life they come across :3
-The moment they get back to shore Jotaro’s all -_- again around people, but you can still see the excitement in his eyes if you look hard enough
-When he gets into school for marine biology, Jonathan is so fucking proud
-This is an au which means anything can happen so I formally declare that Jonathan definitely got Jotaro those golden dolphin-shaped coat pins when the man first goes off to Uni
-He wears them as a good luck charm :3
Josuke
-Josuke is soooo easy to get along with, especially since both of them are such warm people :)
-Jonathan figures that it wouldn’t be hard to find something fun to do together, but when he actually thinks about it...he really knows nothing about what Josuke likes to do
-He ends up just asking the kid next time they see each other, and they end up just agreeing to teach each other one thing the other doesn’t know
-Because the power of KNOWLEDGE BABYYY
-Josuke shows up the next day with an entire fucking Nintendo 64 and is absolutely set on teaching him how to play something
-Erina just kinda watches like 👁👄👁 as Josuke plugs it in and Jonathan is confused but also SUPER EXCITED because he barely even knows what a video is but there are also video games??
-After much internal debate, Josuke decides on Ocarina of Time because he’s worried Jonathan will have a fucking heart attack if they play something like Mario Kart
-Also he thinks Jojo would enjoy the whole “righteous hero coming of age” archetype thing because,,,you know,,,
-They start it up and immediately Jonathan is like WHAT and has no idea how to play and dies in ways that Josuke didn’t even know were possible, but they somehow make it to the first temple with a lot of help from Josuke
-Right before the boss fight, his mom pulls up like “bitch we gotta go come on” so Josuke sees no harm in leaving the system at Jonathan’s and coming back next week
-Oho,,,ohohooo,,,
-He comes back a week later to a dark house,,,Erina’s off on some trip, and he can hear the faintest “HYAH!” coming from the living room
-He walks in to find Jonathan in the exact same spot he left him, ALL OTHER SAVE FILES ARE COMPLETE, and he’s in some obscure location doing a side quest Josuke didn’t even know existed
-Turns out he’s really good at quest games
-After Josuke realizes that Jonathan’s managed to beat the game more than once, he asks if he wants to try out another game
-To which Jonathan replies: “There’s MORE?”
.
-Aside from giving Jonathan a crippling video game addiction, Josuke also learns a vital thing about Jonathan Joestar
-Hamon ^-^
-Josuke’s a little surprised that Jonathan can even see his stand, and Jonathan has no other way to explain it than that it must be connected to his Hamon somehow
-To which Josuke is like “what” and Jonathan realizes that his stupid fucking grandson decided not to tell ANY OTHER Joestar about Hamon
-He’s no Zeppeli, but he could try and teach him...even if it didn’t work, it would still be a nice bonding activity
-When Jonathan finds out that Josuke’s stand ability is revolved around healing, he’s overjoyed because he might have a better chance
-They start small with breathing exercises and meditation, which eventually lead to Jonathan trying to teach Josuke how to make things like flowers
-Since it doesn’t exactly come naturally to Josuke, things don’t exactly work out,,,but both are unsurprisingly happy when Josuke manages to make a single flower bloom :3
-It’s not much, but it’s there and it honestly makes Josuke feel much better knowing that he could eventually learn how to heal himself, too :)
Giorno
-Jonathan considered teaching Giorno Hamon a while ago, but he realized that his stand already has the properties of Hamon, if not just in a more humanoid form
-And when Jojo puts two and two together that he and his son can both grow a lot of plant life, he has the perfect idea
-Garden buddies!!!! :D
-They grow everything you could possibly think of, and to top it all off, Giorno fills the garden with all this animal life :)
-When it comes to biology, Giorno never shuts up about it. He’s the quietest kid when it comes to virtually anything else but prepare for MAJOR info dumps about frogs and his vast knowledge of flowers
-Speaking of flowers, them just sitting and growing them together and talking about all of their favourites? Yes please
-Although they love to accelerate plant growth, there’s one patch in the middle of the garden that they’re determined to grow naturally
-Also them growing and eating carambola (star fruit) together because it’s my pocket dimension that makes no sense and I get to decide what fun fruits the Joestars get to eat together
-the garden becomes a great place for picnics and outings and the best place to go when things get too chaotic
-Giorno starts a plant journal where he records everything that ends up growing there, and Jonathan starts impulse buying all these flower guide books so they can look at pictures of them and put their favourites in the garden :3
-They end up creating a little pond in the middle of everything, and Giorno puts a whole bunch of frogs and fish in it and it's all very tranquil and calm and nice :))
◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇
I was gonna do part 6 (maybe part 7 too?) but mental energy? I don’t know her, sorry y’all :(
Feel free to add on though!! I wanna see what y’all would think Jonathan would wanna do with Jolyne or anyone else I missed :D My first thought for Jolyne was Rugby because Jonathan was a rugby KING and I feel like she’d be really good at it lmao

The Leaving Cert is an awful system.
09/09/21
In case you are not from Ireland, the Leaving Cert(ificate) is the exam system that determines which uni we can get into. Rather than having a GPA via continual assessments or any sort of entrance exam or letter of application we simply have one set of exams. There are obviously other exams (such as the christmas and summer exams in other years), however, the Leaving Cert exam is the only one that matters.
When you take a subject you can either do ordinary or higher level. Ordinary level is easier but rewards less points, and higher level is more difficult, but rewards more points. A H1 is worth 100 points (except for HL maths which is 125) and is given if you get between 90 and 100%. A H2 is 88 points and 80-90% and so on. An O1 is 90-100% in an ordinary level subject but only 56 points. There are some weird changes to the system when it comes to medicine but I won't get into that right now. Universities award places based solely on the points you receive. This leads into the first problem.
Whilst the education experience is a multi year process (6 years in secondary school in our case), what determines your uni course is a single event, often just a single week out of many years of learning. This is insanity and leads to so many obvious problems. A person could be getting H1s throughout the year and forgot to study just one topic and end up with a H3 in the leaving cert at the end, and a H3 student could get lucky and study a topic that happens to come up and get a H1. Even a single grade can be the difference between getting into the uni you want and losing out. The leaving cert does not measure you abilities as a student, your effort, or even sometimes your ability. The leaving cert measures your memory and how well you can perform on the day. You getting 100% in every single subject for the past 6 years and a family member dies a few days before the exams and it absolutely ruins your mental state? Too bad. In the eyes of the university you are not a good enough student. You are a perfect student but got a bit nervous and stayed up a bit late the night before to get some extra study in and are tired the next day? Too bad. You've been getting 625 in every set of mock tests but on the day your mind goes blank with the incredible stress, the knowledge that one test will determine the rest of your life? Too. Bad. There are no exceptions to the hand of the points system and claw of bad luck. You cannot explain to the uni. They. Will. Not. Care. Nothing else is taken into account. Students will have bad days. That's just life, we're all human. However that must be accounted for. Nobody should miss out on their life's dream because of a single day. That is absolutely absurd.
When you ask someone what education is about t. There is a filter type system for different categories of posts and all that, so if you're interested in what I have to say, I'd recommend going there for the better experience. I also have no fucking clue how to use tumblr sof you ask them what the leaving cert is about they will say it's about getting into uni. Clearly there is a disconnect here. Where has education become so distorted that now it is nothing more than a way for universities to quickly and easily judge us? Education must be about teaching children, not for some uni test, but simply so they can become more knowledgeable, so they can get a thirst for information, so they can locate their strengths and weaknesses, so future generations can live better lives than we will. University selections must be nothing more than an afterthought. It is even worse when the leaving cert is a horrendously stressful system. We put ourselves through sometimes 6 years of stress and bad quality of mental health to make it easier for universities??? What a ridiculous idea.
The leaving cert isn't even a fair way to judge students. Here, I'll be able to determine how good you're likely to do in the leaving cert with two simple questions. Do you have a good memory? Are you good at maths? If you answered yes to both, the chances of you doing well are very high and if you answered no to both - well - the chances aren't quite as good. A huge amount of the leaving cert is simply a memory test. I know the state will talk constantly about how rote learning is discouraged and all that, but realistically that's not the case. Take for example the English paper. You get to know which poets might come and which poems you can use before the exam. This mean your teacher can simply write you a good sample answer and if you can remember it, that's at least a H2 for that part of the exam. And as for being good at maths - if you're good at maths you already have 3 subjects which you can say with reasonable certainty you will be good at - maths, physics, and applied maths. Students who aren't good at maths have nothing like this unless they are fluent in several languages. A big problem when you arises most of the non maths subjects are based on memory, and the ones not based on memory are based on maths. History? Memorising essays. Irish? Memorising poems. Biology? A lot of memorising. Physics? A lot of maths. Accounting? A lot of memorising. This continues throughout basically all the exam subjects, with only maybe one or two exceptions. I know someone who hasn't even started 5th year, and yet they already know they're screwed and have basically given up on their first choice course because they have dyscalculia and a terrible memory. They can try as hard as they want, study as hard as they can, but realistically, they aren't going to come close to someone with a good memory and are good at maths who put in the bare minimum effort. It's bizarre too, given the amount of jobs that don't require either maths or a good memory.
The subjects you can study in the leaving cert is also extremely limited. You have to study Irish, English, Maths, and a third language. In public schools you then basically have the option of History, Geography, Accounting, Business, Economics, Art, Music, Religion, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and DCG. There are no electives to try out things similar to careers you might be interested or anything like that. Now those that plan to go into business will be happy I'm sure, however, for most other people, the subjects have very little in common with the career you want to do. You're doing law? I suppose a business subject might somewhat help??? You're doing computer science? Maths is kinda related. Medicine? Biology sure, perhaps a little bit of chemistry? But at most 2 out of your 6 subjects will actually be any way relevant to your career. To make it even worse, public schools have subjects in blocks. This means there will 3 blocks of subjects and you pick one from each block. You're super good at both physics, chemistry, and business? Well too bad, there's a very high chance you won't get to study all 3, and you'll have to pick up geography or some other subject you have no interest in. In some cases all 3 of the subjects you like may be in the same block, meaning you'll have to pick up 2 subjects you have no interest in and will likely be worse at. Once again, simple luck plays a huge part in the leaving cert. Going into 5th year, the subjects you're allowed pick will likely change your eventual points by around 30 or possibly more. Furthermore, private schools provide a massive advantage, often with your chance of getting good grades being around 4 times higher. You were born with well off parents? Congrats, here's an extra 100 points have fun. Absolute insanity. The leaving cert is really just determined by luck every way you look at it. Now obviously luck plays a part in everyday life too, but the leaving cert basically caters to the lucky, and a whole lot could be done to reduce the benefit they have based on luck alone, rather than quality of character, or time studied, or effort put in, etc.
I suppose I've reached the stage where I should stop complaining and start giving actual suggestions for improvements then. Fine. Firstly, remove the idiotic one exam process. Instead have some sort of GPA system with continual testing, so it shows how good a student is on average, not just on their worst/best day. Increase the amount of uni places available so that getting into the uni and career you want becomes more of an afterthought, rather than a constant stress looming over you. Add more subjects and electives that will be relevant to the career the student is planning to go into. Make learning and discovering your strengths and weaknesses and just enjoying life in general a main focus. Give students time to relax and do sports outside of school, even in 6th year (which is something basically impossible to do under the current system). Allow the tests that determine the GPA to be open book. Make understand more important than simply memorising. Remove the subject block system so students can do all the subjects they actually enjoy and are good at. I believe that the single test system is one of the reasons that private schools perform so well, by removing that, I believe the scores wouldn't be so far apart. However additions restrictions, or even total banning, of private schools could be implemented. After all, surely everyone deserves the same quality of education. These are children and teenagers for gods sake. There shouldn't be a heirachy of education based on their parents wealth. All students should be given the same opportunities. Private schools largely do better due to having better teachers. There currently isn't a large enough supply of very good teachers to go around, and the private schools can simply buy up the majority of good ones. We should pay teachers more, a lot of people thinking about careers may be dissuaded from teaching, despite having a passion, due to the low pay. Many good teachers also go to places like Dubai thanks to the better pay. Overall in society, teachers are sort of dismissed as a profession, and if we wish to improve the lives of the next generations, this must change.

Thesis papers be damned.
You might as well burn your group mates to the depths of hell for leaving you to dry these past few weeks. They weren’t even replying to your messages tonight and you were having a mock presentation first thing in the morning.
You aggressively started to mix more cake batter after frosting the cupcakes.
“Baby?” a low voice echoes throughout the quietness of the kitchen, your steely gaze snaps to find your half-awake boyfriend standing there in his sleepwear, his raven hair completely a mess, if it were a normal day, you’d coo and snuggle next to your good-looking man and annoy the fuck out of him but no, you just had to be in a bad mood, “It’s four am, what’s with all the sugar overload?”
“I’m celebrating the death of my sleep schedule and my sanity. Want a cupcake, baby?” a sarcastic grin makes its way to your lips and honestly, despite his deadpan features, Suna was very worried. He had been bugging you these past weeks to stop living in coffee and instant noodles so he decided to crash your place tonight to scold you, cook yourself a hot meal, and smother you to sleep with his hugs but it seemed like it didn’t work at all and you just violently wormed your way out of his grasp.
He slowly made his way to you, eyes half-lidded, and grabbed the rubber spatula from your hands and snuggled his head on your shoulders like a kitten, “Sleep, Y/N. It’s not worth to stress over those shits.” his voice was blank as usual but you knew he meant well.
“Well those shits will be my downfall tomorrow if they can’t answer the panel’s questions.” You spat as you cracked the eggs harshly on the batter and snatched back the rubber spatula from his hand, letting out a loud huff as you continued to mix aggressively.
“Y/N…”
Silence.
“Y/N…”
“Fine.” you grumbled, “Just let me-”
“I’ll clean up.” Suna sighs, grabbing the spatula once again from your hands, “Go to sleep, I’ll wake you up at seven am, just in time for your class, right?”
“But i can-”
“Y/N.” Suna narrows his eyes, determined to get the last say between you two.
“Ugh.” You grumbled, shoulders slouched, “six thirty-”
“No, seven am. Your class doesn’t start until nine. You need more rest. No take-backs.”
Giving your boyfriend one last stink-eye, you slowly trudged yourself to the bedroom and just flopped yourself towards the bed. Ah, how bad could this day even get?
You shouldn’t have jinxed it.
You were almost late since the professor had moved the presentation time to eight am, thank god your apartment was near your uni, your boyfriend literally watched you shove the most decent outfit you could find and throw yourself out the door in a hurry. In the midst of the presentation, your stomach started to grumble too since you weren’t able to grab a cracker or your usual bread to go before class.
Even worse, your stink of an eye group mates weren’t able to get their parts right.
You were downright ready to throttle them, thank god that this was just a mock defense.
Your mood doesn’t exactly brighten even after the defense, you sit there and look like those cartoons who had fumes coming out of their ears. After class ended, you decided to bring it up to your professor and he tells you it’s too late to take the names out.
Your mood dampens even more.
Exiting the classroom with a scrunched up feature, you stop to see a very familiar figure standing there holding a brown paper bag and a cup of steaming hot milk on his other.
“Mornin’” Suna quietly greets you as he gives you a light feathery kiss on your cheek.
You blink.
“Shouldn’t you be in class right now?”
“The professor was absent, he had some staff meeting so I decided to get you a bento box and some milk. Try to avoid coffee for the time being.” Suna explains as he transfers the cup of milk to his other hand so that he could hold your hand, “Let’s have breakfast, Y/N. You don’t have class until another hour, right?”
Before you could protest, your boyfriend drags you to the field and under the shade of a large tree to eat the bento he bought.
Suna quietly listens as you rant on about how annoying and how much you want to throttle your good-for-nothing groupmates, occasionally wiping the little crumbs on the side of your cheek, “...You should take it easy.” Suna simply replies after you finish your rant, “You’ll get a cold if you keep this up.”
My okaasan will definitely let me live in the cold if I fail a class.” You shiver at the mental image of your mother giving you a sermon. Suna just sighs as he fixes up your trash, he could never argue with you.
“Come,” he stands up and holds out his hand for you again, “I’ll walk you to your next class.”
The sun shines brightly yet your day doesn’t get any better, you had a pop quiz on one of your weakest subjects and you couldn’t even finish the readings since you were too preoccupied with your thesis and your groupmates.
You inwardly let out a groan as you made your way to the library, your phone rings and your brows contort in confusion at the name of your boyfriend. “Hello?”
“How’s class?”
“You’re such a miracle worker.” You sighed, “You always know when to call.”
“That bad?”
“Everything just sucks, ah life feel so shitty these days-” You confessed, scratching your head in annoyance.
“Hey.” He cuts you off, voice dead serious, “It’s just a bad day, Y/N. Don’t worry, we all have these days. How many classes do you still have?”
“Just two.” you huffed out, completely frustrated by how bad your day was going.
“Take a deep breath and drink some water, alright? I’ll see you after class, let's walk home and order some takeout then sleep early alright? My class ends the same time as you today.”
“B-But…” You stop protesting, realizing that Suna would shut down the idea. Saying goodbye to your boyfriend, you take in a deep breath and do as he instructed.
Thankfully nothing major happens on the next subject and as you were about to proceed to your last class, Suna texts you that he has some milk bread on your locker and your favorite banana milk. A small smile made its way to your lips, one more subject and this wretched day was over then you’ll get to snuggle next to your boyfriend.
Again, you shouldn’t have jinxed it.
Someone had accidentally spilled the banana milk you were drinking all over your white shirt along with his cup of mocha drink (which thank god was cold because if it wasn’t, you’d be suffering a burn)
You had to sit through the whole class with the sticky feeling on your chest and that ugly slosh, you really should’ve brought a jacket today.
“Hey baby- jesus christ, Y/N what happened?”
It’s quite hard to gouge a reaction from your boyfriend most of the times but you can’t believe that something as easy as the big ugly slosh of mocha and banana milk stain on your plain white shirt would actually shock him.
You pressed your lip into a tight line, pissed, as you open your arms, “This,” you exclaimed, “This is what some people call a bad day, Rin-chan.”
Suna shakes his head at your antic and just takes his sports jacket to place it on your figure, he’s awfully reminded of a Pomeranian when you’re angry but he’d never say that out loud.
Instead he softly grabs your hand and tugs it lightly, your quiet on your way home. He notices that maybe the fatigue is slowly sinking in, so the minute you guys enter your apartment, he urges you to change into your pajamas while he orders take out.
After a quick bite, you lay on top of him and snuggle on his neck, humming an unfamiliar tune as you draw circles on his chest, “Thanks.”
“Hm?’
“For being there.” You hummed, “I wouldn’t know what I’d do if you weren’t my boyfriend. So yeah, thanks...”
Suna feels a small smile make its way to his lips, he doesn’t respond, instead he just kisses your head and lets you lay on his arms, “Hey Y/N…” He paused and when he notices that you’re soundly asleep on his arms, his smile turns wider. i love you, he thinks randomly as he watches you sleep, “Goodnight.” he whispers instead out loud, kissing your forehead again and hugging you into his arms.

dinner and diatribes
a/n: Hello! I put it off as long as I could but I just HAD to start writing. So, Here it is, my first BoB fic! Any and all feedback is appreciated.
══════════════════
After graduating and settling into the swing of the life you wanted to live, the universe seemed to actively work against you.
You did not get accepted into the college of your dreams. And the underfunded local university you wasted away at was the bane of your existence. You could barely land a job with all the hours you were required to stick to campus, and only made enough money walking dogs and watering plants to pay for tuition and the occasional new outfit.
When you started to see the light at the end of the tunnel, with a few hundred saved away, and some time opening up to find career opportunities, the chatter about war turned from gossip to gospel.
In fact, you'd made it all the way to the opposite side of a fine mahogany desk for your first full fledged interview when your dreams were promptly crushed. The man meant to interview you rushed in with flustered news he'd only just found out himself. He told you the company was shutting down. All the nation's money was being sorted to aid in the war. The president had called for rationing to start.
The man was near tears when he asked you to leave, replacing a goodbye with a hopeful wish you might be able to come back again one day.
You marched home at a loss. And the worst thing of all, was the fact that you didn't seem to have anyone to talk to about it all.
The best of your friends had moved away one by one, well meaning phone calls only coming from a couple now and again. Some weekends you managed a stroll through the park with Janice Dean. And you hadn't missed a single one of Rudy Delacroix's card parties. But the one friend you'd always been able to call upon seemed ever less interested in being a part of your life.
Joe was busy as everyone else, you knew. But when he started canceling long standing plans, and forcing smiles when you skipped up to ask him on a last minute adventure, you realized something must have been very wrong.
Over breakfast you'd prod him for answers. He'd joke about the state of the world and steal what was left on your plate. So, nothing could have been too wrong. Right?
Joe always entertained your random stops by, and offered you drinks and listened to you complain about uni. He’d curse the place and drag you to pubs and sneak you into films and waste hours by the waterfront laughing about nothing with you. He’d go great lengths to help you forget your dreary days, even if just for a moment. But lately you noticed Joe had stopped trading his own complaints- the kind he claimedvno one else would tolerate hearing besides you.
And then… he stopped talking at all. Right when you figured it was time to ask what the hell the matter was. Joe wasn't at his place last you swung by, like you so often did. He didn't come around yours like he so often managed. He didn't answer his phone when you rang, and a real worry sprouted through you when the next time you tried, the line went dead.
And then you did see Joe. At the local grocer. You spotted his profile across the aisle and moved to meet him. And he clearly saw you too. When he did, he moved the other way, and disappeared from the stall all together, leaving you to panic over what you might've said or done to upset him so.
You went about your mundane week with a heavy heart. While you seemed to lose hope in the very near future, the world spiralled out of control outside of your windows. And you had no one to talk to about it. Until Joe's mother called.
"Come round for dinner, won't you love?"
"Of course, ma." You'd been calling the woman by her motherly title since you and Joe first fused at the hip some odd years back. Since then his family had included you in most every occasion they could manage. Until a certain someone up and broke tradition a week or so ago...
"Great! Joe didn't want a big send off but we all know he'll want you to join in the last big family meal before he goes.”
His mother chirped through a sigh that crackled from the other line. And in her all too casual remark lied a clear answer to the impasse you'd been facing.
"He what?" You asked low, through your teeth, with a sense of urgency you'd never felt in life, till now.
"He didn't tell you did he?" Joe's mother seemed to ask less more than she seemed to realize; and before you could think up the right thing to say, you slammed the phone down, grabbed your purse, and flew out the door.
Of course this was happening. How had you failed to realize? You shouldn't have had to realize. Joe should have told you he was shipping out. Everyone seemed to be. But he should have said so. He'd always told you everything. From the embarrassing to the inconsequential, Joe hadn't held back from droning deadly details to you since he'd started. The fact that something this detrimental had been hidden away sent smoke from your ears as you marched toward his family's home.
The windows across the little brick cottage were all opened, the late day breeze blowing you up the porch steps. You traded knocking for bursting in the door. There wasn't time left to waste. And the realization hit you all at once… but you had a mission to complete before becoming all too overwhelmed.
Joe's mother ducked out of way, a tray of warm food in hand. She did not try and stop your storm through the kitchen. The only one you’d taken by surprise was Joe, who turned from the sink with eyes as wide as empty dinner plates.
"You didn't tell me?" You seethed, heading straight for him. Joe started to back away, moving toward the patio doors with his hands held in a pitiful defense.
"I'm sorry-"
"Sorry?!"
He kept moving. So you marched after him, out into the yard; shouting all the way asking how the hell he could've kept this from you. How you were supposed to cope with all the worry you’d feel the longer he spent storming the front lines. Asking, flippantly, if he’d tell you what it was all like, or if you’d have to find out from a soldier who'd come knocking to tell the last of Joe’s news.
"I said I'm fuckin' sorry." Joe boomed, stopping near the trees that lined his family's property. You didn’t regret your frantic interrogation but you wished voicing your worst fears of losing him for good hadn’t been what finally got Joe to say something like he meant it.
You halted when he did, stunned to silence. But only for a beat. You watched Joe sigh and bring his hands to his face.
"Why the hell didn't you tell me?" You pressed, much quieter but with disappointment ever present in your tone. You stepped a little closer, willing your friend to speak up. At least now you could see he was trying too. Joe tossed his head back, and shifted his weight to lean against a dying tree.
"I don't know." He shrugged finally. It wasn't what you wanted to hear, but it was more than you had in awhile.
"I-I guess I didn't know how to." Joe spoke in a tone you'd never quite heard him use before. A terribly hopeless croak.
"Didn't know how to tell me?" You had to laugh a little. All you ever did was tell each other things.
"Didn't know how to leave you." Joe pointed, like it was obvious. You watched his jaw clench as you were baffled into silence once more. But only for a second.
"Well it seems like you've only got one night left to figure out how." You wanted to cry. "Thanks for wasting all the time we could've spent figuring it out together."
You started to turn, only to hide the tears stinging your eyes. But as you stepped aside, Joe wrapped his hand around your wrist and yanked you to face him again.
"I'm an idiot but I am not stupid enough to let you go." He said, still keeping his hold on you.
"I panicked." Joe admitted, speaking softly all of sudden. "And I’m sorry. And I don't ever want anything like that to ever happen again. I won't let it."
You studied Joe and the look on his face and the way his eyes searched yours so easily, so acutely. Part of you wanted to keep shouting, to really drive home how abandoned you’d felt. But you could see how he'd withered under the weight of knowing so. But you couldn't even begin talking about what was meant to happen next... it was all too overwhelming. For as long as you could remember, you'd never not been near one another.
"I wished I never had to find out how shitty a day without you felt. I'll always regret bringing it on.
As your mind raced and your heart ached, your brow furrowed when Joe started to move away from you. His spare hand latched onto your other wrist. And he knelt.
"I didn't mean to leave you out. I never want to again." Joe emphasized each word as he strung them together. And after a long pause he spoke again. "So...marry me?"
You wanted to laugh. A good hearty nausea inducing laugh. You could admit to yourself that over the years, in the very depths of solitude, you'd secretly wished for a moment like this, with Joe. But never in a zillion years, least of all now, had you seen it coming.
You felt Joe's grip tighten as you blinked, bending ever so slightly closer to meet his eye.
"You're fucking crazy." You said, a montage of this week playing through your head.
"Please." Joe desperately whispered. He wasn't begging you to be with him. He was only hoping that the two of you might make your always being together official. How could you say no?
"Yeah. Yes, of course, Joe-" You finally let a small chuckle escape as your tears started to bubble over. And before you'd finished stammering acceptance, Joe sprung to his feet and lifted yours off the ground in a long overdue embrace.
He set you down and caught his breath and you started to lean in with a new, unabashed desire to press yours lips to his. But the guy spoke up with a gasped realization.
"Oh, I have got some good news." He grinned, mischievously. You only rose a brow and waited for the penny to drop.
"I don't leave for a week."
You understood every possibility that came from his news, and found despite every grim reality closing in around the two of you that the future was full of blindingly bright silver linings.
Joe lifted you off the ground again, this time as he moved to start back inside. You bargained for him to put you back down, as he carried you toward the kitchen.
"We're getting married!" Joe called to whoever might've been around to listen.
"That was quick. And just in time for dinner." His mother chirped, as you were returned to solid ground.
"Quick? I've been tryin' to do that since sometime after highschool." Joe pointed, following as you sauntered further in the room, smoothing your clothes and hiding a blush.
"I meant the two of you have spatted longer over the color of the sky." His mother held a whisk your way, while fixing her eyes on her son. "I'm glad you worked this one out in record time."
Joe reached for your hand as you stood, listening best you could, all of your senses entirely preoccupied by the man at your side.
"And have you finally come to this joyous conclusion?" His mother softened, abandoning her dishes to shuffle toward the two of you. She gave out hugs and squeaks of excitement and gasped before taking off around the corner. She beckoned the two of you to follow her, and after a shared chuckle you did.
His mother was stood at the vanity in her room, waving the pair of you in. And after only a second of pilfering through draws, did she pull out a ring. She gave it to Joe and said it was his grandmothers. The spritely woman shot you a beaming wink before creeping out of the door she'd only just invited you into.
Then it was just you and Joe. Like usual. At fucking last.
He said nothing as he reached out to pull you nearer. He bit back a smile as he slid the diamond on your finger. Joe broke your admiration of the thing by placing both his hands on either side of your face. And he kissed you like you always dreamed of being kissed. You wrapped your arms around his neck and kissed him back like you always secretly longed to do.
You spent the rest of that night squished between him and his family at the dinner table, like usual. They celebrated your news. And there was very little talk of where Joe was headed. But when he brought up the war and his leaving, he held your hand under the table and you felt the hug of the gold band around your finger and couldn't find reason to worry too much. You’d have time enough for that later. You'd miss him. You already did, a little.
But you'd gotten through the worst yet, and come out of it hand in hand. But before he left, till heaven only knew when, you’d officially and always be together.

Chase the Shadows Away (Taywhora) - Juno
Summary: It’s April 2020, the UK is in lockdown, and Tayce gets a hand-delivered letter from her neighbour Aurora which may change her life.
A/N: So this is set during lockdown and does mention covid, so please bear this in mind when reading if this will be a worry, but otherwise I hope you enjoy. CWs in place for alcohol, mental health mentions, and non-adherence to lockdown rules at one point.
Otherwise it’s quite fluffy with some h/c. I hope you enjoy.
The first letter Tayce got was in early April.
She hadn’t had much post since the whole country had been locked down, no one allowed to move outside their front doors for more than once a day for threat of fines and penalties and even getting sick. Most of the letters she was getting this week had been birthday cards for her absent housemate. She’d put the various brightly-coloured cards and Amazon boxes in a pile outside Viv’s bedroom door, and gave the pile the middle finger every time she walked past it.
But today there was a plain, white envelope, with “Hi” written on it in glittery red pen, and when Tayce opened it, she found a piece of notebook paper that had been folded at least four times, and Tayce nearly threw it across the room with the effort it was taking to open.
This had better be worth it.
When she got it unfolded, she read the three lines in the same glitter pen, then again, and once more just in case.
‘Hi, I’m Aurora. I’m on my own in my flat 7D because my housemate moved home because of lockdown, and you seem to be alone too. Want to write to each other? X’
And Tayce couldn’t hold back the rush of emotion, as much as she tried - but she was alone, and she took comfort knowing only these four walls would see tears stream down her face.
——
Tayce was on her own in the flat.
In the day time she opened her work laptop, thanking god she was allowed to work from home; throwing a hoodie over her pyjama top just in time for the 9am meeting where her boss grinned at everyone and told them all to keep swimming and chin up and whatever other self-indulgent bullshit she had read in her How To Motivate Your Teammanual in the chapter about Managing Pandemics.
Tayce was still surprised at how much bullshit her workmates seemed to swallow; all of them with the same broad smiles and straightened hair and shaved chins and eyeliner, for fuck’s sake - but Tayce copied them, knowing that not painting her own smile and her own eyebrows on was damning herself for the inevitable call and the simpering It’s Good To Talk conversation, followed by u k hun xx to be flashing repeatedly in the work WhatsApp group from all the team.
In the evenings, the only noise was the clink of the glass bottle against the wine glass. One glass was enough to make her a little sleepy, two was enough to make her dance, and three was enough to make her post something cryptic on her insta story and see if anyone DMed her.
Sometimes they did.
Joe liked to crack a few morbid jokes about how it was the apocalypse and we were all going to be dead by 2021, which didn’t help Tayce in the slightest. Ginny would message “You alright, bab?” at three in the morning, but never reply to any other message. Tia would send Tayce a picture of the banana bread she’d baked as if that would cheer Tayce up.
And Cherry sent her a message one time, telling her to look after her mental health, and then Tayce felt bad because Cherry worked for the NHS and only seemed to work and sleep right now, her insta photos showing her looking more and more gaunt, with #ClapForHeroes and #ProtectTheNHS appearing at the bottom of all her posts.
Nothing curbed the gaping black hole in Tayce’s chest, sucking everything that was good from her body and leaving her a shell.
Until the letter arrived.
——
Two days after she’d posted her own letter back to 7D, another letter arrived, in the same glittery red pen, this time addressed to her, with Tayce written on the front of the envelope this time.
‘Hi Tayce (sp?) nice to meet you, don’t worry I don’t know what to say either! Where in Wales are you from? I’m from Nottingham but I came to London for uni and didn’t leave! Are you still working rn? I got furloughed which is a bit shit. And my housemate is staying with her boyfriend so she can’t move back. Have you been clapping for the NHS? Someone on my floor was banging a pan or something!! Hope your ok? WB Aurora xx’
“I’m making a new friend,” Tayce had said to her mum on the phone later that night.
“In lockdown?”
“She’s delivering me letters.”
“How?”
“By hand, mum.” Tayce forced a laugh. “You know. Through the letterbox like a normal letter.”
“I hope you’re washing your hands before and after you open them, are you?”
“Yeah, of course,” Tayce grimaced as she said it.
“Good. Stay safe. Love you.”
“Love you too.”
One of these days, Tayce thought as she disconnected the call, she might be able to say it without her voice breaking.
——
By mid-April, a full month since lockdown had started and two weeks after the first letters between them, Aurora had given Tayce her instagram handle, and Tayce had given hers in return. Tayce found herself spending all of her Good Friday skimming down the page on moreauroramore, looking through all of her new pen pal’s photos and trying desperately not to look like an idiot by accidentally double-tapping any that were obviously over a year old.
Tayce had pictured Aurora in her mind as being over-excitable, short, with dark hair and lots of dusty pinks and baby blues and other pastel colours as her aesthetic, maybe with pot plants and cat pictures and cutesy little slogans surrounded by hearts. Instead she’d found a smolderingly attractive woman with a ridiculously versatile and sophisticated sense of fashion; one photo in a rococo-inspired summer dress, and the next in a cerulean blazer, matching trousers, and stilettos. Her hair was platinum-blonde, but it was hard to tell her eye colour as she seemed to own a never-ending plethora of colour contacts; and the eyebrow ring in the early pictures was replaced by a silver septum ring in later ones.
Her own insta looked quite plain in comparison, Tayce thought to herself. The landscapes she liked to post were interesting to her but probably not to the magnificent person on Aurora’s insta. The last picture Tayce had taken was of herself with her brother and niece in red rugby shirts just before the Six Nations was on; the last selfie before the last time she’d gone home which was … only February, she realised.
February felt like years ago.
When Tayce had awoken the next morning, she was greeted by the doorbell, and an Amazon driver sprinting away the moment she opened the door. A letter was on the doormat, in the familiar red glittery pen, and a single chocolate Easter egg.
‘Happy Easter Tayce. Don’t know if you celebrate but lol thought you would like some chocolate anyway! Don’t eat it all at once. Aurora xx’
It made Tayce’s gut wrench with guilt that she hadn’t thought to get Aurora one.
But it made Tayce even more pained, once she had clicked onto her instagram, to see that moreauroramore had liked all thirteen of the pictures she’d posted this year.
——
The zoom call at the end of April with the others from her uni group, saw not just Cherry missing, but also Ellie and Veronica.
“Ellie’s moving this week,” Lawrence nodded at the screen, “but that was all she’d tell me. She didn’t say where. Or if she’s staying in Dundee or anything. I just know she’s still trying to get her internet set up and I think she’s a bit stuck.”
“What about Vee?” Ginny asked in a low voice.
They all recognised the somber tone. They’d all taken it up. A change in their voices that all of them recognised in a kind of collective telepathic awareness. A hush in the calls, as if someone were dying, or had just died. Whenever anyone was missing, it was always the same worry circling all of their minds: what if it’s covid what if it’s covid what if it’s -
Tia was shaking her head. “It’s not covid,” she said, reading the minds of everyone through the internet, but her voice was still solemn as she continued. “I spoke to her mum. She’s -“
“Say depressed, Tia, it’s fine.” Bimini spoke gently, but not all of them were as open as Bimini was. Especially when it came to Veronica, who was a brick wall when it came to showing what she was feeling.
“She’s - not in a good place.”
“Say mental health,” Bimini said, shaking their head. “It’s okay to not be okay.”
“I don’t think that’s gonna make her feel any better, Bim.” Tia rolled her eyes.
“We’re all feeling this,” Pip nodded. “We all need to talk to each other.”
“Veronica won’t. Not yet. We just need to be there for her when she does. Anyway, who’s done anything interesting? Anyone else been trying banana bread? Everyone managed to find bogroll from somewhere now? No one is having the same problem that Joe had when she -“
“I don’t think we need to go any further with that one, love,” Joe muttered.
“I’ve made a pen friend.”
Everyone sat in stunned silence at Tayce’s sentence, mouths open like fish at feeding time.
“A pen friend? What is this, 1986?”
“Shut up, Ginny. I think that’s kind of cute, actually,” Tia mused, tilting her head to one side.
Tayce nodded. “Something a bit different. She lives in my block of flats. Two floors up from me. Been nice, to talk to someone, ever since Viv buggered off to her boyfriend’s house. Seriously, as soon as Boris announced lockdown she was jumping in her car and off to Liverpool.”
“You said she was a bit flaky,” Tia said sympathetically. “What’s your new pen pal’s name?”
“Aurora.”
“A-what?” Ginny raised their eyebrows. “Can we just call her Rory?”
“No.”
“We should get her on a call with us when Veronica’s back. Ronni and Rory, sounds like Ant and Dec will have some stiff competition when they get wind of that.”
“Ginny -“ Tia began, but Tayce was trying to hold back a chuckle.
——
‘Someone is talking about a street party on the 8th of May. Are you gonna go? I was gonna stay indoors but if you’re gonna go outside i will too xx’
Tayce knew she shouldn’t be thinking of meeting strangers outside her flat while the pandemic was ongoing, but she hadn’t seen a familiar human since March other than on a zoom call screen.
‘Hi Aurora, yeah i will go outside for a little bit. Look forward to meeting you properly instead of over letters! Tayce’
And Tayce finally stopped hesitating, adding two kisses on the end for the first time.
The weather was meant to be lush for a May bank holiday, as Tayce knew because her colleagues wouldn’t shut up about it. Almost eight weeks of lockdown were beginning to show the cracks in all their faces - no more eyeliner, and even Linda in Accounts had stopped posting boomerang videos of her kids doing Joe Wicks workouts while she waved her arms behind them.
So Tayce was over the moon when Friday rolled around and she could slam the Dismiss button on her phone alarm, turn over and sleep in until noon. Once she woke up though, she sat up with a jolt in her bed and realised she’d have to get ready; somehow it was important that she looked right today.
It was a power play, she knew it. An armour. But there was just something about clothes that made her mood turn in an instant. Her favourite leather jacket was probably a bit too heavy for the warm sunshine - warm sunshine? In May? - so she opted for the black denim instead and a skirt that hugged her slender figure, leaving her hair loose and wishing she’d gone for a trim before the lockdown. Maybe she should take her scissors to it?
She held the only scissors she had to hand - a pair of craft scissors - and wondered what her hairdresser mum would say if she knew that her daughter had taken non-styling scissors to the 30-inches of hair that she had.
No - better not. Her mum could give her a go over once the lockdown period had ended.
Someone was playing tunes on a speaker already when Tayce came down the stairs, dragging the garden chair Viv had left behind and brushing the digestive crumbs off it. One of the neighbours she recognised from her floor handed her an ice-cold can of Fosters which she sipped, not really enjoying the taste but relishing the freedom of it all. She knew to keep two metres from everyone, and she knew Cherry would absolutely murder her if she disobeyed that rule.
As soon as Aurora came into view from the block of flats, Tayce knew that keeping to the two metre rule would prove a little harder than she had first thought.
Aurora’s insta pictures showed a fashion model trapped in a little box on a screen, striving to get out - but in the flesh, she looked as if she had just rolled out of the living room after a Tiger King marathon. The grey jogging bottoms paired with the crop top and zip-up hoodie were probably too warm for today - 23 degrees, the radio kept repeating - but she made them look so effortless and stylish that Tayce suddenly wanted to buy some. Her platinum hair was piled in a messy bun, dark brown roots showing but the lackadaisical nature made it seem like Aurora meant it that way.
On her insta page, Aurora was way out of Tayce’s league; but here in life, she seemed a lot more accessible, a lot calmer, a lot more real.
Maybe it’s armour for her too. All this perfection in the photos. God. Why did I wear this?
She dropped her own deck chair down a reasonable distance from Tayce, taking another can of Fosters from the same neighbour and cracking it open. She took a swig, wiped her mouth on the back of her hand, and waved.
“Hi, Tayce. Here we are, then!”
“Yeah,” was the only thing Tayce could think of in response. Really cool. Very clever.
But Aurora was talking animatedly about how much she’d missed the sun, as she pulled a pair of sunglasses from her pocket and leaned back against the deck chair, claiming “Tesco are having them on sale - two for £12, so I got two - what else am I gonna do on furlough other than sunbathe!”
And the more the Fosters flowed - their neighbour’s 24-pack almost completely gone before 5pm, he seemingly wanting to give a can to the whole block - the more Aurora opened up her life history to Tayce.
How much she wished she was still in Worksop and could go on the long walks into the forest. How she’d give anything to hug her mum, a care-worker, and how she FaceTimed her shielding grandad every Sunday at 6.30 just after he finished his tea.
But most of all, how lonely it was every single night being alone in a flat in a huge city. Aurora dabbed her watery eyes with her thumbs as she described how much she loved everything that London had to offer when it was full of people, not dead to the world like it was now - and in this hollow place that lockdown was, she’d discovered that a city - any city, however exciting - was just a built-up area if you had no one to share it with.
Tayce hadn’t expected to cry. She’d cried maybe once or twice this whole time in lockdown, still too numb to have taken everything in that was happening. But the moment she’d opened her mouth, suddenly the Fosters had started talking for her too, and she was spilling out her worries onto the pavement below them as Aurora rubbed her back.
How her mum was furloughed from the hairdresser and her dad was always out in the lorry up and down the country. Her brother and sister-in-law, and her niece, were all still fine in Newport, but Tayce had missed her niece’s birthday, having to settle for blowing her a kiss down FaceTime and promising her through gritted teeth and cold fear that she’d give her the biggest cwtch ever as soon as this was over.
But now Tayce was in tears again, this time on Aurora’s shoulder, releasing her sorrows onto this woman who she had only exchanged written words with; now seeing her true soul laid bare in emotions that just refused to stop once she started. Aurora’s gentle hands ghosted through her hair, but then gripped Tayce tightly to her chest, planting a long, tender kiss on her hairline.
How had this happened? How had social distancing become this? Two people, thinking they were islands, clinging to one another for dear life?
Tayce held her for too long.
Aurora’s hands froze as she realised what she had done at the same moment Tayce had.
Cherry is gonna kill me.
Aurora walked with Tayce back to her flat as the sun was setting. It was nine in the evening, the heat finally starting to break, and both of them were aching and tired, spent from their tears. Aurora gave Tayce’s hand a gentle squeeze but said nothing else, her eyes red underneath her sunglasses, and Tayce had felt herself harden once again, turning the key in the door and closing the outside world back to where it should be.
——
After two weeks had passed, both of them not developing any symptoms after their contact, Tayce had an idea.
She put the letter through the letterbox in 7D at midday when she broke for lunch, and had a reply by half past one, a new record for Aurora.
‘Tayce, I’d love to form a support bubble with you. I thought you would have one already thats why i didn’t ask! Want to put on a film tonight and just chill? Bubble bud? Aurora xx’
So Tayce saw inside Aurora’s flat for the first time that same evening. After work, she practically sprinted up the stairs, thankful to get away from more of u k hun xx and her still-simpering colleagues.
It was very clean, as if it had only just been cleaned that day - freshly-washed surfaces, hoovered carpets, a sparkling bathroom - and Tayce marvelled at how tidy and orderly things were, a stark contrast from her own living space which had evolved into a nest of mess by now. Aurora’s living room and kitchen space were one area, with a mismatched sofa and chair facing the tv screen, hooking up a PS4 - Tayce hadn’t counted Aurora as a Dishonoured player either. The wall opposite the window was filled with small pictures of past fashion models - Kate Moss, Agyness Deyn, Cara Delevigne - all with matte black frames which had obviously been painted in lockdown, as one was on the coffee table drying over a copy of Hello magazine.
“My housemate’s not coming back, I can see it happening now,” Aurora shrugged, “so why not make the house the way I like it while I look for someone else to live with?”
Aurora poured Tayce a huge glass of wine, and that was followed by another; while she topped up her own glass liberally and kept shifting on the sofa as if trying to get comfortable. Tayce, for her part, took the chair instead, while Aurora tapped on the PlayStation controller to try to get Netflix up. The more she drank, the more cumbersome the controller seemed to become in her hands, until Tayce leaned over and took it away from her, Aurora’s fingers lingering a little too long on it before relinquishing.
When Aurora got up, meaning to pour them both a fourth glass of wine, she slipped on something and tumbled into Tayce’s lap in the chair, tittering something that sounded like “god I’m clumsy” through the giggles that came from her, unable to stop. Tayce slapped her on the back as she started coughing, but as that died down, Aurora straightened up, picking up Tayce’s hand in hers and drawing her up and away to join her on the sofa.
Lockdown had been so fucking lonely.
Aurora’s hand in hers was all Tayce needed to dissolve every wall she was still rebuilding from May Bank Holiday.
Aurora’s eyes were on her, she knew; through her peripheral vision as she tried desperately to cling to her focus on whatever episode of Tiger King this was.
When Tayce finally met her gaze, she averted it, turning her face to the window opposite them. Almost … playfully.
So Tayce looked back at the TV screen, but Aurora’s hand squeezed at hers, thumb in her palm pressing right in the centre, the pressure somehow travelling all the way to her gut. Tayce turned back to her, and this time Aurora did not look away.
“God, you’re gorgeous.”
Aurora looked at her through her eyelashes, lips parted in a smirk, curiously searching Tayce with her gaze as if wondering what her next move would be.
Tayce blinked incredulously. “Me? Like this? What do you mean, I’m gorgeous? Have you seen yourself?”
“And that accent, oh my days -“
“Go to Newport, we all sound like this.”
But the wine was hitting hard now and oh god lockdown is so fucking lonely and Tayce’s feet on the floor suddenly felt unsteady and Aurora was so fucking close to her on the sofa -
——
Once the hangover was gone, the memory of rest of the night felt like a dream, or maybe a nightmare. Tayce wasn’t entirely sure when she’d gone back to her flat, but she had, long before night had fully fallen and long after she was sure the burgeoning friendship she was finally making with someone lay in tatters two floors up from her.
The wine had washed away the strength she’d had, leaving her raw and vulnerable, and all the affection that had been growing since Aurora had first held her bubbled and burst into life. And Aurora must have felt the same magnetic pull, drawing them together across the sofa, nail marks still present in Tayce’s back that she could see in the mirror, a bruise forming on Tayce’s collarbone as Aurora had dipped a little lower.
It had been Tayce who had halted it - not because she hadn’t wanted to, but because she couldn’t decipher how much of this was affection and how much of this was just two lonely people, starved of company, starved of normality, seeking and clinging to it in any form.
And now it was the following day, and Tayce still didn’t know.
The group call at the end of the day was interesting. She stretched over the back of the sofa in her living room to grab her water, and that must have been enough to flash a sliver of skin.
“What’s that?” Lawrence asked loudly, prompting everyone else to go quiet. “Tayce? What’s that on your chest, hmm?”
“I didn’t see anything.”
“You’re not wearing your glasses, Ginny, you can’t see shit. What’s that on your chest? Why d’you have a bruise there?”
“Hi!” Ellie’s voice as she joined the call unexpectedly saved Tayce any further embarrassment; everyone shrieked when she came on, having missed the last two zoom calls following her move. “Thank God my internet is working now, I’ve missed all your faces!”
Tayce silently thanked Ellie’s timing and contentedly listened to the rest of them as they chatted about everything and nothing that they’d all missed. All of them were there; even Cherry showed up about twenty minutes in to wave at them and blow them kisses, her face even more pallid than before; before ducking back out to go to bed.
Only Veronica was still missing.
“She’s been messaging me,” Tia explained, “and she said she’s feeling a bit better, but since she got furloughed, she’s feeling like there’s no point getting out of bed or getting ready because there’s nowhere to go.”
“Send her some love,” Tayce said, but Tia snorted.
“You send her it! She’s gonna feel better if she knows we all miss her.”
It was true though, Tayce realised after they all disconnected. They all seemed to be drifting apart, no more energy to continue with these online gatherings, even though there were so many virtual meetup groups and apps that there almost seemed to be no excuse now.
She looked back through her phone messages. She hadn’t messaged Veronica since early April, taking her silence as a sign that she wanted to be left alone; but what if it wasn’t? Veronica was a closed fist, everyone knew that. And Tayce’s brother? Again, early April, and a quick call the week after for her niece’s birthday.
Lockdown, and self-isolation, seemed to be one and the same.
So Tayce spent the rest of the afternoon sending messages to everyone she had neglected since then. Maybe they would reply, and maybe they wouldn’t - but there was no harm in reaching out, no negative consequences.
By the end of the day, she was fielding messages back and forth from everyone she thought she’d lost through lockdown, the grey cloud over her head starting to lift, the fuzzy feeling disappearing and clarity settling in. She felt light, lighter than she had in weeks; and warm as the summery days they were getting in this late-May spring.
Towards the end of the day, she got a message back from Veronica at last.
Veronica: I’m doing ok. I got up and went for a walk today just to the park and back. It’s really nice although my hay fever sucks. Thanks for checking in on me i appreciate it x  Veronica: Oh also Tia said you had a hickey on the group call haha tell me what her name is x
Tayce was surprised to realise she was grinning at the phone as she read Veronica’s message, her fingers stroking the mark on her collarbone as if to savour the vivid image that it sparked in her head.
——
It was three days after their drunken kiss on the sofa that Tayce had another letter through the door. The same red glittery pen, the same scrawl, but the writing a little smaller as if Aurora wanted to diminish herself.
‘Hi Tayce. I’m really sorry if i came on too strong this week. Can we go back to friends? Want to hang out tonight, bubble bud? Aurora xx’
Tayce swallowed down the part of her that immediately rose up and cried that she … didn’t want to just be friends.
Then it hit her.
God. I only met this girl properly this month. What’s wrong with me?
But she replied and immediately started clearing the house.
She put the pile of Viv’s birthday cards and presents from the hallway floor into a cupboard under the sink, giving it the middle finger again; put the six-weeks worth of laundry on to wash; cleaned all the dishes; and dragged the hoover out of the tiny airing cupboard and got to work on the carpets. The hard floors she swept, and carried the bin bags out to the communal bins, all before midday.
“Who needs Joe Wicks workouts?” She muttered to herself, panting, as she tugged some marigolds over her hands to sort out the rest of the kitchen.
By the time it was six, and time for Aurora to arrive, Tayce thought the house looked much better, and honestly, she felt much better too. The little spring clean she’d given the place had cleared a little clutter from her head as well.
It’s nothing to worry about. She’d just coming over for food and -
Tayce grimaced as she realised she hadn’t thought of what to do for food. She thought back to the beans on toast she’d had at four and kicked herself for not thinking of that. Dominos was still delivering, so she brought up the app and busied herself looking through the list of pizzas.
Aurora hadn’t arrived by ten past six, and Tayce started to worry.
Maybe she’s changed her mind.
But Tayce refused to let that thought take any root. She looked at the clock, which of course seemed to slow down from having eyes on it, and firmly told herself that she would message Aurora at quarter past if she wasn’t here before.
With a minute to spare, Aurora turned up, grinning merrily and waving the bottle of rose in Tayce’s face.
“Hey bubble bud! Sorry I’m late, well I’m always late, sorry in advance if you expect me on time for anything!” Aurora took a step inside and her jaw dropped. “Wow, your place is well nice!”
“Thanks,” Tayce grinned, although she wasn’t sure what Aurora was looking at. Tayce wasn’t allowed anything on the walls from what her landlord said, but Aurora wouldn’t stay still - checking out the titles of the handful of CDs Tayce had brought down to London with her; scanning a nail along the books on the shelf above the TV.
“It’s nice to hold a book sometimes,” Tayce shrugged, “rather than just read it on the kindle app.”
When Aurora got to the kitchen, Tayce cringed. She’d have to confess.
“I haven’t got in anything to eat. Only - only some bread.”
“And pot noodles,” Aurora added, opening a cupboard and helping herself to the contents as if she’d lived here her whole life.
“And pot - oh, are you thinking, maybe …”
“No way!” Aurora slammed the cupboard door and grabbed her keys again. “Be right back!”
Ten minutes later and Tayce was at the hob over the oven with Aurora, dicing onions while she cut up a red pepper, mince that Aurora had grabbed from her own fridge was out and ready to go in too.
“I needed to use that up anyway,” she shrugged. “Please tell me you don’t just eat bread and pot noodles, Tayce, please. I need to give you a cooking crash course if you do! Didn’t you learn to cook at uni? Or didn’t you do much cooking before you went? Oh my days - no fry the onion off first, with the garlic - I’ll chop the mushrooms, Jesus Christ pot noodles …”
“I know how to cook, give me some credit!” Tayce murmured, but she couldn’t stop smiling. “I just haven’t been to the shop yet, it’s been a long week.”
Aurora closed her eyes and hummed in appreciation. “Just keep talking to me, please.”
“What about?”
“Anything! Your life, your family - I don’t know, house prices, I don’t care - but that accent, ugh -“ Aurora shivered.
“Yours is cute, too,” Tayce smirked.
Aurora looked at her reproachfully. “You’re lying.”
“Yeah, I am.”
It was no use. The air was full of electricity, static around them, and before Tayce knew what was happening, suddenly they were kissing again, this time stone-cold sober, while the onions burned shadows into the bottom of the pan.
——
Viv gave her notice on the flat at the start of June.
“I just can’t afford to live here anymore,” she explained, sighing, when she got back and started to pack up everything in her room. “I’m gonna see if I can get some work back home.”
Tayce was numb, although she knew Viv didn’t mean it personally. It wasn’t her fault that she’d been made redundant straight after the lockdown ended, and it made sense that she wanted to be near her family. It was now four months since Tayce had seen hers, and she missed them every day, although she had been sticking religiously to her new routine of calling her parents every Saturday night and her brother’s family every Sunday afternoon.
“I’m sorry that’s putting you in a tight spot, Tayce,” Viv muttered, hugging her, and Tayce hugged her back.
“Can’t be helped,” Tayce replied, which was all she could think to respond with that wasn’t an inarticulate growl in frustration.
Viv was adamant she would pay her final month’s rent, and pay her half the utilities even though she wasn’t there. But she had to go home.
“How was your move?” Tayce asked Ellie on the next group call on zoom.
“Shite,” Ellie replied, “but partly because we struggled finding someone to move us. There’s plenty of places around, plenty of places to rent and stuff, because everyone’s moved back to where they came from.”
“You’ll find somewhere else to live, bab,” Ginny murmured in a soothing voice to Tayce, stroking the side of the laptop screen as she liked to do to show affection now that she couldn’t hug anyone.
“I know,” Tayce sighed. “It’s just a pain in the arse.”
She wasted no time. One of the spare room websites was always open in the background, and she was refreshing, looking maybe a little further out from central London to see if anywhere was cheaper, but nowhere was.
Then she spotted the dot in her own block of flats, and clicked the advert.
That’s - that’s Aurora’s flat.
Now she remembered. Aurora had mentioned something about her housemate moving out! It must now be official.
She read through the advert - how was it £50 cheaper than what she was already paying? - and looked at the contact name for the housemate, and there it was in black and white pixels: Aurora Martin, use form below.
Grabbing a piece of notebook paper - one of the last bits left, she’d been ripping them all out to write to Aurora - she penned a letter, one of what might well be the last ones, and jogged upstairs to post it through her letterbox.
The response came back to her in less than an hour, a new record for Aurora.
‘Tayce! I’d love it if you wanted to move in here! OMG. My landlord will want references from yours, but if you can get them quick then he can approve you really fast, he’s working from home. OMG you made my day. Come up at 7pm xx’
“Work contacted me today too,” Aurora beamed as she settled with Tayce on the sofa. “They want me to start back next week! Can’t wait. Need to get that coin again now! I mean, I’m dead grateful, you know, that I still have my job and I was on furlough so the government paid most of my wages, but it will be nice to have the full package again!”
“What is it you do again?” Tayce asked.
“Oh - I work as a fashion buyer. But because fashion’s kind of stopped right now, most of the designers are shut. Reopening now, especially the ones in mainland Europe! Can’t wait to be on the phone to them all again.”
“Wait. You speak to designers in other countries?”
Aurora nodded. “I speak French and Spanish.”
“You -“ Tayce was dazed. “I didn’t know that!”
“Well why would you? I mean you’ve only known me a couple of months!” Aurora laughed, and leaned back closer to Tayce, her perfume overwhelmingly sweet in the air. “You’re not gonna know everything about me yet, bubble bud.”
“No,” Tayce purred, “but I can’t wait to find out.”
——
By the Monday after the move, early July, Tayce was all set up to go. She’d moved the bed into the corner as she liked it, arranged her books into a rainbow as she liked them, and unfurled the posters she’d been unable to hang in her last flat, mostly punk bands that she liked, Bimini’s band’s poster, and the noticeboard with all the tickets tacked to it of all the gigs she’d been to. The vanity with the mirror that she’d brought from home fitted perfectly next to the window so she could do her makeup with natural light; and it was large enough for her work setup, which was where she was now.
The flat layout was almost identical to the one she’d just left, and the room was the same one - Aurora having the slightly bigger room - but it felt a lot more comforting, knowing she wasn’t alone here any more, knowing she had a little more freedom in decorations, and knowing that the hollow feeling in her chest was starting to slow down for good.
She turned off her work laptop at five as normal, which was when Aurora came in. Tayce pulled her in, giving her a peck on the lips.
“They’re gonna love you, I promise.”
Aurora just made a moan in the back of her throat and put her face in her hands, shrinking away from the vanity.
Tayce turned on her personal laptop, logging into zoom and connecting to the group chat. Her monthly uni call was set to half four today for some reason, and everyone else was already all there.
“Tayce! We wondered where you’d got to!”
It was Veronica’s voice, and Veronica’s face was in the top left. She still looked a little tired, and the shirt she was wearing looked suspiciously like a pyjama top, but she was here with them all, and this was a big step for her.
Tayce beamed at her. “So good to see you!”
“The move went alright then, bab?” Ginny asked.
Tayce nodded. “And there’s someone you should meet.” She pulled Aurora into frame, who still looked uncharacteristically shy for a moment before waving at the people on the screen. “This is Aurora.”
“Aurora!” Tia squeaked. “Like the princess!”
Aurora rolled her eyes. “Yes.”
“So we’ve got Rory and Ronni here together at last!” Lawrence exclaimed, while Veronica gave the camera two fingers.
But Tayce just grinned at her friends on the screen, far apart but together in this strange way. Aurora’s nails dug into her shoulder, still a little nervous, but even that was fading as she got more comfortable.
Aurora had been right - the city was just a lot of bricks in intricate patterns without someone in it that made it a home.
And this just might be becoming one.
