//If the victims play despair branded video games, then they will have subliminal code designed to drive people insane and make them perform actions they wouldn't do. And if a victim does escape they might have a hard time distinguishing reality from fiction and hallucinate psychotic game characters to kill them. For maximum horror it will mostly be based off the most innocent gaming franchises you can think of.

//Sonic.EXE is real in a AU where Chiaki is a Remnant of Despair and while no eldritch abomination will spirit you away to a fate worse then death, he might as well for what Despair Chiaki would do to you...

//In terms of personality, I imagine ALL the Remnants still having the same personalities they always had but just have a switch where they turn psychotic and enjoy causing despair, so Chiaki could be as innocent and cute as you know her as but then WHAM, she turns into Jigsaw. She would probably collect and play the worst video games known to man to both give herself despair and as more ways to torture her next batch of victims.

The conversation between the adults had reached her curious ears and even though she didn’t show herself, hiding in the darkness of the late night, she would listen to her parents having a conversation with the others, conversations about a topic she never imagined possible. “With the emperor having passed away, what do we do. Lord Alfonse doesn’t have the experience yet and ... “ Her father spoke softly, the little crack of light coming through the left open door lit up the hallway before her. 

The emperor had passed away? Riella couldn’t believe her ears, the man who her parents had served so loyally died at such a young age? He wasn’t old like her grandparents, not even close. The man she would call uncle instead of emperor, the man she admired so much. She couldn’t accept this cruelty, tears began streaming down her face.

All this time her parents had tried to shield her from such things. Death, war, pain and sadness were all things she has never really experienced, unknowingly so. However, overhearing the people speak, it broke her heart. Turning on her bare feet, she would hold her stuffed animal close as she rushed back up the stairs. This wasn’t true, this couldn’t be true!
