OKAY MORE OMNI-MARK/AMBER HEADCANONS BECAUSE THEY’RE MY FAVORITE LOVES 🥰🥰🥰

1.) in O. Mark’s universe, I headcanon that Eve actually didn’t have a crush on/pursued Mark, but AMBER. So, I think Eve tried getting close to Amber and O. Mark could sense that, so that’s why he hated Eve

2.) another reason could be that Amber accidentally ended up in the middle of a fight and Eve either accidentally hurt Amber with her powers or was too late to save her from an attack

3.) Omni-Mark wants to beat the shit out of Main Mark for his immaturity and for breaking Amber’s heart (he finds out about their breakup through Main Mark’s Amber) AND for not even attempting to get her back

4.) Omni-Mark doesn’t tell his Amber about the MarkEve situation. If he did, she’d definitely just laugh it off. Again, she’s confident in THEIR relationship, not MarkEve’s

5.) When O. Mark and Amber have kids, they have two twin girls and a boy. They’re treated like royalty (which they are) and grow up experiencing the love and protection Mark provides for Amber every single day

6.) O. Mark actually originally planned to train his kids to be apart of the empire as soldiers (not the mindless ones assigned to conquer planets) but Amber REFUSED. This causes an argument that eventually ends with neither side winning. They’ll let their children decide

7.) O. Mark is the assigned hair stylist of their family no sit down I’m not taking criticism

8.) O. Mark, although his face is very stoic most of the time, always smiles for his family, for his wife and girls and boy. His smile is so pretty and rare that Amber has an album on her phone dedicated to those specific moments

9.) O. Mark wants to go to Viltrum to raise the kids there but ultimately decides to stay on earth. At the time, Viltrum still isn’t fit to raise children safely or progressively. He’s afraid Viltrum standards will negatively impact his childrens’ minds and Amber’s view of herself as a human

10.) before the kids start school, O. Mark gives them the talk, as in what to do if their powers arrive, what NOT TO DO, and how to make friends, pay attention in class, yada yada

11.) Amber is an amazing, caring mother. I can see her being the money-maker of the family while O. Mark takes on the house role of taking care of the house/kids. I headcanon that she works with kids and the disadvantaged so she is an incredibly sensitive, understanding woman. She also grew up with a man that had to leave a lot due to heroism (that he truly did not gaf about) so she’s patient

12.) They’re both brave when they wave to their kids goodbye, but they both break down when they leave the school

13.) They rant about their children the whole time, hoping they’re doing well. O. Mark takes Amber flying and “coincidentally” flies past the school fourteen times

14.) the kids’ days were amazing and they worried for nothing

15.) speaking of the children, their powers kick in at about ten years old. Their two daughters get theirs at the same time, while playing mermaids in their pool and suddenly they’re playing astronauts in space, floating high above the pool and startling the shit out of their neighbors.

16.) Their son gets his when he sees a spider in the corner of his room, screams, throws his comic book at it, and creates a hole in the wall (he missed the spider)

17.) O. Mark trains the kids how to use their powers and dreads the day they ask to become heroes

18.) surprisingly enough, it never comes. At least, not soon. Their kids prefer helping at the soup kitchen their mother still volunteers at

19.) I like the idea that the variants, before escaping the sand dimension, became close with each other. Do they still irritate the shit out of each other? Duh, but they also don’t totally despise each other

20.) O. Mark is closest with shiesty, full-masked, and maskless. Sometimes they visit each other’s dimensions to hang out (and their respective amazing significant others hang out as well)

21.) O. Mark only trusts those three around his kids. He doesn’t like Mohawk (even if Mohawk is kind of the fun uncle) and despises sinister (who is the creepy uncle that gifts the kids weapons)

22.) forgot to mention this earlier but Amber’s mother also definitely has a huge role in their lives. She approves of O. mark because of his commitment to her baby and her grandbabies. O. Mark and Grandma Bennett have a silent agreement that they would kill a bitch for Amber

23.) Grandma Bennett offers to make suits for the kids if they ever decide to become heroes. O. Mark informs her of Art’s existence and she insists anyways

24.) Amber and O. Mark still absolutely go on dates. No matter how long they’ve been together, their love for each other is still fierce, still so prevalent. They will be like 80 and Amber will still giggle if O. Mark flirts with her. Nothing will ever come between them and they know it

25.) another cute one I thought of is Viltrumite’s senses are enhanced. O. Mark knows Amber by the sound of her laugh, the smell of her hair and lotion, the sight of her pretty smile and the green tint her eyes have, and the soft skin of her hands and body every time they lay together.

25.) O. Mark and Amber have had the inevitable conversation before. What will happen when Amber’s time eventually has to come to an end? The easy way — O. Mark finds some magic wizard and forces him to give Amber immortality (or a longer lifespan) and they live happily ever after. The harder, sadder way — O. Mark plans to die as soon as his wife isn’t around. He knows his children will be grown and independent by then, that they’ll have their own lives and their own families. He loves his children to death, but he can’t fathom living without his wife, without his Amber, so he must die too. I imagine he’d ask for a Viltrumite execution as soon as possible, or he’d just fly himself into the sun and stay there until he eventually dies. Amber does not know his plan and it is the one thing he will never tell her

my interpretation on roger 🫡

i’ve seen a similar post on here i’ll tag who i was inspired by, but i just wanted to share one of my interpretations about roger and perhaps an explanation as to why he acts why he does, this isn’t canon at all it’s just my interpretation and thoughts and i’m aware the killing of the sow is meant to interpret how boys were taught to treat woman as the female pigs were the only female things on the island.

( tw for SA mention and racism )

alright so we know roger is a part of jacks choir, described as a “quiet furtive boy” (this will be important later), who we don’t see much of until chapter 4 when he’s with maurice and the littluns and towards the end of the book. during the killing of the sow, we all know roger pushes his spear into the pigs ass which the boys all find funny; “a phrase which was received uproariously” but why? 

this book was set in the time when the book was written, around 1940-1950, and as we know roger is in a presumably strict catholic choir with jack and the others. around that time period, the church held a lot of power over people and especially schools. this then meant that vicars, priests and other people of the church were extremely respected people. because of this as im sure we’ve heard in instances before, child sexual abuse was in fact alarmingly common and unreported in the church, especially back then when churches had so much power. i’m sure you can see what i’m trying to imply here but it’s a possibility that jacks choir could’ve been in the same unfortunate situation.

now, when i said roger is described as a “quiet, furtive boy”, this could represent how kids that had succumbed to sexual abuse acts in the church were told to stay silent about what was happening, and/or turn a blind eye when it happened to other people. then with the killing of the sow, what roger did isn’t normal and clearly isn’t something that should be the first thing that comes to mind when you see a female pig. this could mean that an adult had told him that that stuff was okay, thus why he did what he did. sexual abuse victims often also become angry and develop personality disorders because they’re confused and scared and they don’t understand what’s happening to them, this also would further explain roger’s ‘sadistic’ behaviour, and inability to communicate a lot. 

i’d like to add in something about simon too, how he’s in the forest and watches the killing of the sow take place but doesn’t do anything. in my opinion, this heavily represents seeing something take place (sexual abuse in the church) but being taught to stay silent because it’s the ‘right thing to do.’ 

alright this is the second part of my essay which is my other interpretation which in my opinion could lead roger to act the way he does. throughout the book, roger is described as having a dark complexion, but sometimes it’s hard to tell whether golding is talking about dark nature-wise or in skin colour. sometimes throughout the book though you can tell he’s of a dark complexion such as; “the swarthiness of his skin” “a dark face appeared” and the fact he’s so dark he doesn’t tan. taking this into account i personally am very convinced roger isn’t white. in chapter 4 when roger throws stones at henry, it quotes “round the squatting child was the protection of parents and the school and policemen and the law” also in the time period when this was set, it was common for policemen to pick on kids that aren’t white because they hold a prejudice against them, the same of which could’ve happened to roger pre-island. it doesn’t say anything else which could have a meaning to racism anywhere in the book but it’s just an interpretation i thought of, that roger could’ve been subjected to racial profiling before the island thus another reason as to why hes ‘uncommunicative’ and rather aggressive.

GGGOD I WISH I WASN’T OUT OF THE HOUSE RIGHT NOW. but i’ve been thinking about colors literally all day so you all get to be subject to my madness! sorry this is long and rambly wauaua. nightmarishly long post under the cut.

okay. first things first, a few basics. color theory and color psychology tend to get confused a lot in discussions, but they usually refer to different things. color theory is more about we physically perceive colors (color wheels and color schemes the like), while color psychology focuses on our emotional response to colors. if you’re familiar with the children’s hospital color theory post, that poster wasn’t actually talking about color theory, but color psychology (and also it’s incredibly surface level and heavily misunderstands the subject because in what fucking universe does the quantity of positive associations with a color matter more than the context it’s used in and sorry i have personal beef with this tumblr post).

color theory is also a special interest of mine but i’m not gonna touch on it too much here because it’s not entirely important. mmmaybe another time…

essentially, certain colors (and color combinations) have associations in our brains and that affect our behavior and emotions. these associations are also very much affected by the context a color is used in. colors don’t exist in a vacuum! so while red can symbolize passion and love when used in something like a dress or a bouquet of flowers, it has a very different connotation when it’s, say, splattered on the walls or smeared on the ground in a snail trail.

or for a less Children’s Hospital Themed example, i’ll put my euphrasie and king designs here!

(of course the saturation and brightness of these blues play a massive part in how they’re perceived but this is not a post about color theory this is n)

and, of course, combining colors in a piece can also change their meanings!! i’m about to get real fucking normal.

i’m gonna be focusing on the color combo of red and yellow here because it’s the one that’s most relevant to my art (and also it’s really interesting.) basically, seeing these two colors together activates the part of our brain that controls our appetite, making us actually feel hungry. this is why so many food companies use red and yellow in their branding! it’s neat stuff!!

also, if you’re familiar with it, this is why the mv for butcher vanity uses this color palette!! along with red’s general associations with danger and blood, the color combo also physically induces hunger. pretty fitting for a song about cannibalism!

(there is also red’s association with lust and passion and how that intersects with the double meaning in the lyrics but i cannot derail this post into being an analysis of butcher vanity i’m sorry. we’d be here all week. maybe another day... wipes a tear from my eye)

and i think this might be the reason why some people feel hungry when they see my art, even when i’m not drawing food. while i don’t tend to use red outright, most of my art has very warm undertones (red-oranges and yellows especially), which could be activating that hunger response??

(ah fuck color theory managed to weasel its way into this post again)

admittedly this part is just speculation on my end. i think my rendering style and Shapes also play a role in it, but it’s interesting for me to think about!!

this is only scratching the surface of how complicated colors can get. i was going to go on an entire tangent about color grading and how green lighting can make a scene feel unnerving but this post is already Too Fucking Long. aaaa super sorry if this is Rambly or hard to understand!! i’m not Entirely sure how much the average person knows about color theory and psychology so if there’s any confusing terms here i’m fine with adding stuff for clarity!

Idk why there's disbelief over Mark S/Helly in terms of motivation. Helly is just as capable of cruelty and selfishness as Helena. They are at the core of it, the same person with different memories/experiences. They can be two perspectives worthy of indulging their own dreams and desires and also be the same person. Narratively here especially, this isn't about morality, it's about human nature.

Helly was never cruel, sure, of course. Helly felt like she was the same as the other people in MDR. But Helly has something right now that she never even achieved as Helena. Someone who loves her. Someone who is choosing her. Helly is Winning over Helena here.

Jame Eagen wanders down just to be a freak and reinforces the reality of it. Helly is "More" than Helena, hasn't been worn down by the weight of experience and the world (and their cult and corporate bullshit). She still has, in some way, the innocence of youth and lack of experience with the world. She doesn't have the same fears and burdens or triggers as Helena in her conscious experience. She still has the ability to express her passions and outrage and defend herself. And to love and not feel sorry for it.

Severance gave Helena a chance to exist without the learned perspectives and burdens of the Eagens and she is able to be free with herself and her passions and desires-- whereas Helena was likely drained of any dreams for potential beyond a strictly guided future decades ago.

Of course Helly is feeling a rush of joy and satisfaction over Mark loving her. Mark choosing her. She tried to do the "right thing" by being logical with Mark. "I'm her." Even outside of Lumon, if they bring it all down, there's no hope for an Eagen and an ex-severed employee in reality. In the Real World they will never be together. Mark couldn't love Helena, how could anyone love an Eagen? (Poor Helly really with like, the enemy is within etc, but that's kinda the situation framed by Lumon for everyone by setting the stage with your Innie isn't human kinda rhetoric.) (This was also reinforced by Helena trying to get close to Mark to see if he still had feelings or chemistry with her and finding out they were not going to work outside Lumon.)

What if the equator is a building that could be a continent? Can be their whole world? They're choosing to live Now. Together in the present despite knowing that with their half lives, they could be brought to an end at any moment. It's very willful young love of them. And why wouldn't it be? This is their First Love. They haven't even been "alive" that long or have any memory of romance beyond their current infatuation. They don't know the world or it's places, and maybe that's okay, maybe they can exist in this space so long as they have love and the others.

It's completely human for Helly to accept Mark choosing her. To run to him just to see him for maybe the last time. It's human for Mark S to run to Helly. It's human for poor Gemma, who doesn't even know her fucking husband is severed, to be pounding on the door.

But this is their Final Day to Mark and Helly. Maybe the very end of their world. It's Judgement Day. Of course they'd have them holding hands and running back to the unknown to face the end together. To die together.

There is also zero fucking chance Mark Scout would risk his life and brain continuing reintegration once his wife is back. Mark Scout is going to choose his wife. Mark is choosing Love on both sides here.

All of it is reasonable.

I just read through your Matador!Nando au and I’m absolutely obsessed, and I thought you’d appreciate this little bit of trivia: matador outfits are commonly called “traje de luces” (literally “suit of light”) in Spain. Also, and this is just a bonus since you’re so into this whole au, you might like the 2012 film “Blancanieves”, by Alain Bainée, which is a bullfighting take on the classic Snow White tale. Enjoy!

Traje de luces yes!!!!! Makes me insane that they're called that, suit of lights ;;;;;; Makes me weirdly pleased that such a violent masculine sport is also obsessed with being flamboyant, the most flamboyant even. "Yes we will fight bulls. Wear protective clothing? No. We will wear sparkly, embroidered suits, as tight as you can make them btw, and call them ✨️traje de luces✨️" And not only are they sparkly, the embroidery designs are often flowery as well!!! Also, there's something about the juxtaposition in pictures where their incredibly beautiful, intricate, flashy suits are all ripped up and soaked in blood. Makes me insane perhaps! But yeah I originally "started" this au bcs I saw a thirst tiktok of matadors and remembered I once talked about Nando wearing a traje de luces, and was like OH HEY YEAH I SHOULD DRAW THAT. And like with all other things, I ended up getting obsessively into it and researched a bunch, so, yeah :] now it brainrots me :] severely :3

I just looked up that movie and I am absolutely frothing at the mouth after seeing the main character w short hair wearing the suit 😵‍💫😵‍💫 do you want to kill me!?!?!?! Do you want me to die!? Definitely will watch, thank you!!! If it wasn't 6 am, I'd get right on it....
