I've held this headcanon for a long time and I've seen someone post about it recently.

Classic IS Dust

I believe if Classic makes a drastic enough decision that it changes the course of the entire 'run' instead of creating just an alternate timeline, it's an Alternate Universe. However it's still an alternate timeline.

So Underswap is an alternate universe (AU) - there is no way to achieve it by the normal rules of Undertale as it is drastically different.

Last Breath (although tricky to diagnose) can be seen as JUST an Alternate Timeline (AT) as theoretically it could be achieved (I know it can't but you get the idea)

Dusttale is both an AT and AU. It's drastically different from Undertale, but can also be theoretical achieved from a normal Undertale timeline.

AT as a title takes precedent over AU. So if Dusttale is ever mentioned, it is AT first, then AU.

Important note: Classic is classic and has always been classic. The instant 'Dust' becomes an AU, not just an AT, Classic experiences a 'RESET'. He retains all his memories of Dust, Killer, etc, but only until that point. The point of no return is where he kills 2 major boss monster encounter. Toriel and Papyrus. The same applies in all situations. In some situations like Horrortale where that line isn't clear, the irreparable damage of his eye would be that point of no return.

As a result Classic knows what each, Killer, Dust, Horror, Error, Geno have all gone through.

He would consider Errors to be the worst he's lived through. As the point of no return was when he began to glitch excessively. This may have taken years, hundreds of years, less, longer. But Classic still believes it's worse than living through a Dusttale timeline.

Undertale is unique, as only 1 timeline may exists at any point that is not an AU. If a last breath timeline exists, no Undertale timeline exists at that moment. Last Breath has occurred enough that every necessary detail is known of the AT, but will never occur again as Classic knows the criteria for which causes it, and knows what to not do.

Because of him having lived through them, Classic feels unnatural sympathy for the bad sanses (minus nightmare and cross, though he doesn't hate them by any means). He in fact blames himself and is scared/apprehensive of interacting with them as he thinks they might want to retaliate. He's not scared in the same way you'd be scared of a monster under the bed. He's surprisingly accepting. He'd just rather live.

He is the neutral state. Everyone must stem from him, therefore he chooses no side in any battle. He stays neutral and interacts with either side. He will never be a double agent or 'a spy on the inside'. Any information he gets, he will never share.

This rant has gone on for a while and probably makes no sense. If you want a more detailed and scripted headcanon I will do so.
