woe, bonus age headcanons go!

- Syntax: it makes sense that he would be the youngest since he was turned into a spider demon far later than anyone else was. but he's like... late 20's to early 30's. adult man.

- Huntsman: in contrast: OLD MAN. i still like to think he was turned from a human into a spider demon as well but like hes probs been a spider demon for a while. also physically like idk 40 ? probably? im not good with numbers

- Goliath: (way) older than Syntax, younger than huntsman. because of the whole Being A Spider Demon Thing. he is squashed in the middle u_u

- Spider Queen: also of course she is just the oldest by nature of being The Spider Queen. it makes sense to me

side note that is sort of in line with the art I posted but I really like that when Marcille reveals her full plan, everyone looks to Chilchuck for what he’ll say about it, bc he’s got the shortest lifespan of anyone in the room. It’s such a small subtle detail but it’s weirdly striking to me as a character beat.

There’s not enough people talking about how important Stephanie is to Damian’s growth pre-Flashpoint.

Bruce had seen Damian as a beast to be tamed, Tim sees him as a ticking time bomb, and Dick is far better with him but he’s still an authority figure for Damian to combat with. But then he meets Stephanie, a college-aged girl who nobody trusts and he bullies her relentlessly and becomes inseparable from her.

She doesn’t interact with him based on his past, but on what she can see. This 10 year old just threatened to kill her? Wow he doesn’t get outside much. He’s not old enough to have seen Gremlins. What do you MEAN you’ve never been inside a bouncy house before we are fixing that immediately.

They are like cousins to each other. They poke fun at each other for being lame and stupid and Dick has to tell them both to shut up. She doesn’t see him as a project to be molded and redeemed, he’s just a kid with a crappy childhood like her and if he’s nice to her for 5 seconds she’ll do something with him to let him feel like a kid. And he doesn’t look at her and see a liability or a failure or a lost cause, like everyone she’s ever interacted with does. When he’s awful to her, it’s because he’s an obnoxious preteen boy.

And then you get the “there’s room in our line of work for hope, too” scene. Because Damian has gotten to know Steph and he can’t fathom why she’s here. She obviously has had to deal with crap and is still working through being kept on a leash by Nightwing and Oracle, but she isn’t broken like the rest of them are. Damian is surrounded by people who were molded and shaped and torn down and broken to become the monoliths that they are, and then there’s this girl who seems so at peace with herself and is constantly making quips, and it’s so foreign to him.

And she tells him that she’s in his world because she believes people are worth fighting for.

growing increasingly worried at the shift in the fandom spaces in regards to the way people approach others' art. this whole wave moving towards 'what can this do for me?' as if art's something that should be tailored to specific numbers in the audience. which then breeds a sort of entitlement in the very same audience where the artist is pushed to a place where they feel like they either owe something to the audience or they are forced to mold themselves into a 'desirable' content machine that's there to please the masses.

and i feel like it just ends up with the general result of the overall quality of art decreasing because the people that DO go with the flow and (willingly or not) embrace this approach end up producing rather generic, often uninspired art OR those who stick to more complex, nuanced, original ideas get discouraged and pushed out by yet another low-effort but 'relatable' piece of fan art that's meant to appeal to as broad of an audience as possible.

and don't get me wrong, i know it's a tale as old as time in art in general. AND there's nothing inherently wrong with creating self-indulgent art with themes that are familiar and comforting. after all, for the most part that's been the basis of a lot of fan art and fan fiction. but i feel like before there was more balance, a certain distinction. room for everyone in their niches, big or small.

nowadays, with all the algorithms tailoring the online experience for you specifically and the growing use of AI character chat bots and the (genuinely heartbreaking) popularity of fics written using AI, it's affecting fandom spaces more and more. people expect the same sort of treatment from the artists that make fan art and i don't think that's a healthy approach.

when i first read this chapter i kinda assumed matoba could feel that this cat wasn't nyanko sensei, but then wouldn't natsume be able to tell as well once he was less freaked out? (not to mention if that assumption was right natori might have been able to as well)

and so now i like to think this fcking nerd could tell this wasn't nyanko sensei bc he memorized each and every single cat from the catalog and could recognize it (and since nyanko sensei's vessel wasn't in the catalog this isn't him)

not only that, i also like to believe he's been so obsessed with sensei from day one that he memorized the details of his vessel, just like he did with the other cats from the catalog, and could tell with a glance that the eye markings from this cat are slightly different

(which is true btw, midorikawa actually took the time to make the eye markings on this cat slightly straighter than sensei's)
