Umm hey I was wondering if you had any headcanons for scarlet spider he's my favorite usm character
Sure do!
His eyes are actually very sensitive to light and that's why it looks like he's glaring all the time. Boi needs a pair of sunglasses on a sunny day otherwise it's constantly scowling.
He has deep-rooted anxiety, not just about himself and his own identity, but by being around a lot of people. After finding out he was a clone of Spider-Man, he struggled with coming to terms with it and differentiating himself from Peter (nothing new if you've read comics, but I disgress.) Being around people gives him a lot of anxiety because he feels like he has to constantly protect himself. Fight or flight is ingrained into him and he struggles with relaxing with the team, even if he WANTS to. He's always waiting for SOMETHING bad to happen.
He's incredibly bristly and doesn't take anyone's bullshit, but he actually has a very low opinion of himself. Dealing with Otto's narcism all the time gave him a lot of self-hatred and anxiety, and instead of dealing with it in a healthy way, he tends to lash out and attack first because he doesn't feel safe being vulnerable in front of people.
He's become very aware of Peter and over-analyzes all the little behaviors they share. They both rub the back of their necks alot when they're sheepish, they both love wheatcakes to an unhealthy degree, and they both deep appreciation old 80's sitcoms. Sometimes Ben tries to change these behaviors because he doesn't want to be seen as TOO much like Peter. He gets anxious about other people making these connections and seeing him as some screwed up, off-brand Peter Parker.
He;s also incredibly kind and soft if you can get him alone. If its just him and one other person, he tends to let his guard down a little and relaxes more. He feels like he has to put on a big, tough guy performance in front fo a crowd/group, but one-on-one, he lets his walls down. (He has a secret soft spot for Miles and Amadeus)
Aunt May is his most favorite person in the entire world, and she's one of the few people he feels like he can be himself around. She makes him feel the safest he's ever been.
He overcompensates to make up for betraying Peter, Aunt May, and the Academy. He tries to take on more than he can handle to prove that he won't do something like that again, but gets very standoffish and defensive when Hydra or Otto is brought up. He's still working on it.

Imma ask a dumb question here, and I know it’s stupid, but I am very confused
I was watching Ultimate Spider-Man, and in the episodes where Uncle Ben is talked about or shown, it’s kinda implied that Peter…had nothing to do with his death? Like, the most Peter says is that “he couldn’t save him” but there’s no talk of GUILT guilt. Specifically, when he’s talking to White Tiger and it flashes back to when he cornered the guy who killed Ben, all Pete says is that he had him cornered and could’ve killed him but he didn’t because he would’ve been as bad as him. I know it wouldn’t fit the scene to talk about his guilt, but that REALLY feels like they dropped the “he died BECAUSE of me” thing. Not saying it’s true, but that is what Pete believes. And they never mention it I don’t think. Moreover, in the same White Tiger scene, Peter says Ben was killed for no reason. I feel like any other Peter would NOT say that.
Idk if this is an Ultimate Spider-Man change (I didn’t read the comics), but all I’m wondering is if the show dropped the whole “it’s my fault” thing.
Like, did I miss a scene where Pete straight up talks about it being his fault? Because even in the Nightmare episode, all he says is he couldn’t save him. He can’t save people every day. That is 100% not the same thing as “I could’ve stopped his murderer and I didn’t cause I was angry”

Animated Things I Watched In 2022, Part 2
I (try to) describe the animated shows I watched in a sentence, but this time for stuff I watched in late 2022
= = =
Inside Job Season 2 (2022)
This season did not go in the direction I thought it was heading, I expected Reagan’s relationship to go in a completely different direction due to the obvious contrast between Reagan’s own parents. What we got was much more bittersweet...
Favorite Episode: “Brettwork”
Hilda Season 1 and 2 (2018 - 2020)
Dunno what else to say than “it’s good” and “watch if you haven’t already”
Favorite Episode: “The Deerfox”
Extra Note: I may have teared up (just a little) because of the above episode
Harley Quinn Season 3 (2022)
Same comment for this show, except I also have to say “thank god this series has survived the purge over at Warner-Discovery”
Favorite Episode: “There’s No Ivy In Team”
The Owl House Season 2 (2022)
Same comment for this show AGAIN, except I have to say “of course Disney execs are coming into ruin a good thing yet again”
Favorite Episode: “King’s Tide”
X-Men (1992-1997)
The artstyle has aged like milk and I wouldn’t call the show “good for its time” when Gargoyles and Batman: The Animated Series are from the same period... but I admit, the show has some high highs, even if it also has some very low lows, and generally isn’t consistent as the those other two shows
Favorite Episode: “Beauty & the Beast”
Extra Note: If voice actor for Fabian Cortez wasn’t so awful, I probably would have put the “Sanctuary” 2-parter as my favorite one in the series.
Niko and the Sword of Light Season 1 (2017)
This show is perfectly fine, it has a good voice cast and a classic setup, I just wasn’t the target audience for this show
Favorite Episode: “From the Sea of Suffering to the Faraway Shore”
Ultimate Spider-Man Season 1 (2012)
Maybe it gets better in the later seasons, but the first season is pretty rough.
The skits, which I didn’t mind, get annoying when they start undermining the serious episodes. You can also tell the writers didn’t want to give Spider-Man a team at all, because they barely explore Spider-Man’s teammates and it feels like they're always sidelined when the main plot is actually happening.
Favorite Episode: “Freaky”
Least Favorite Episode: “Awesome”
Extra Note: Awesome is such a bad episode. Mr. “Great Responsibility” flunks on his science fair project and decides to steal technology from SHIELD to pass off as his project, EVEN THOUGH his principle is literally works for SHIELD and would probably notice stolen SHIELD tech if he saw it
Dead End: Paranormal Park Season 1 and 2 (2022)
It’s hard to call this show a “must watch” when I think all the legitimately good episodes are in the back-half of Season 2 and it’s not clear if there’ll even be a Season 3. I recommend checking out the first few episodes for yourself and seeing if the story and characters vibe with you
Favorite Episode: “My Super Sweet 1600″
Dogs in Space Season 1 and 2 (2021 - 2022)
It’s hard to describe what I don’t like about this show... it’s like this. The cast is very fun and funny in low stakes episodes. But when there are actual stakes, the cast (especially the main character, who is literally named “Garbage”) becomes very frustrating to watch. And the problem is that the writers keep trying to do story heavy episodes instead of sticking to their lane (sorry if this sounds mean but I really preferred the self-contained stuff over the main plot).
I don’t want to completely disregard this show: it’s mostly unknown and it’s not actively terrible. I actually had a lot of fun with Season 1 but I wouldn’t bother with Season 2 since it writes off the best character (Kira) and has a very unsatisfying conclusion.
Favorite Episode: “Paws & Rewind”
I really wish the writing for this show was as good as its animation

no but does anyone have any intel on what the sitch is with deadpool's (possible lack of) scarring/skin issues in the ultimate spiderman cartoons??
like i've read on the Ultimate Spider-Man Animated Series Wiki™ that he comes equipped with all his usual deadpool-y regeneration powers and stuff, and that his base abilities are because of a genetic mutation and then got ''' " "accelerated"" " " when S.H.I.E.L.D. ran some experiments on him, but does he have the same mass-of-scars-lumpy-pizza-face-syndrome as other deadpool iterations?
just to be clear, i'm operating under the assumption that the usm cartoon version of wade never had cancer, and that his baseline regenerative abilities (before the S.H.I.E.L.D. experiments further advanced them) aren't cancer-based, either. which might mean there's no lumps or scarring ig?
then again since super-fast skin regeneration comes with its own set of problems (ea "skin cells multiply too quickly'' is the literal medical definition of psoriasis) he might still be dealing with other skin issues?
all thoughts & ideas welcome!
