okay so as always blanket statement this is just me talking, not yucking anyone's yum, but like. Vergo??? of all people??? is this hugely popular? no. but it's not uncommon, either, and I genuinely cannot get my head around that one. venn diagram of people who liked the blond marine who was mean to the little girl in fan letter is a perfect circle probably.

Also, and this is just a pet peeve bc he annoys me, but like. Bellamy lmfao. that dude JUST took the first step of not being the shittiest type of dude ever in Dressrosa, and we haven't seen him again since. It's not like big hunky tattooed dudes are thin on the ground in this universe, I simply don't see the appeal.

14. that one thing you see in fics all the time

oh oh easy, people who write Nami mean as fuck but like. Derogatory. In general people who write characters OOC and unlikable and shitty to "get them out of the way" of whatever the ship is they're writing. Like at that point why are you including them. This isn't specific to OP fandom this is just a widespread problem in communities that write fic for fandom.

tbc taking characters into uglier or darker characterizations than their canon counterparts isn't always bad, in fact it's frequently fun and really interesting, I'm specifically talking about shallow mischaracterization to get Pesky Wimmin away from m/m ships. A widespread epidemic which plagues us all.

19. you're mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like...

nothing! i've spent a lot of time making active strides to not feel ashamed of things that bring me enjoyment, we're banishing catholic damage in this household lmfao.

that being said I have accidentally sort of backed myself into awareness of being into things that I wasn't previously AWARE I liked, and that has come with its little moments "oh no..." clarity.

but in terms of like tropes or types of fic or things of that nature I don't feel bad about any of it lmfao, abo, dc, kink stuff, slice of life, schmoopy romance (as all will have noticed by now lmfao), there's stuff I like in a lot of places.

I don't really have anything that I initially hated that I like now, tbh, but I do have this like, waffley love-hate relationship with doflacroc lmfao.

I go back and forth between like. thinking it's hot, thinking its awful, thinking they're well matched, thinking I don't want that awful bird anywhere near Crocodile, thinking it's really funny, like.

They're like THE situationship to me as the purest definition of that word, like there's clearly a link there, but I have never settled on whether I genuinely like it or not lmfao.

those who slither in the dark. like edelgard can have a shitty ambitious uncle who wants to use her to gain power and whom she is using in return. but please. he can just be an ordinary guy who sucks there should not be a group of ontologically evil non-human guys who secretly manipulate all world events for their own gain. genuinely wild that I have only very rarely seen anyone point out that uhhhhhh that's classic antisemitic conspiracy theory shit that the game would be better without on so many levels

it's time to tell you abt yet another girl that I think should kiss edelgard. it's understandable that this is a rarepair bc hapi & edelgard don't interact much and also hapi is from the dlc (she's from the secret fourth house in the sewers) and there's another girl from the same dlc that she's ~gal pals with, so people tend to pair them together (they're cute too, and tbh these ships are not mutually exclusive, the other girl is one of the ones who has a paired ending with edelgard (the magic scientist who wants to restore her family's status) so like. polycule. anyway). hapi/edelgard. the thing abt hapi is that she's cursed (every time she sighs she summons monsters, because she was experimented on by the same people who experimented on edelgard) which is why the church threw her into abyss and she's. understandably angry abt them locking her up instead of helping her. see: this entire conversation between her and byleth, that caused me to immediately be like "you and edelgard Need to have a conversation abt this" especially this part

like. the thing abt hapi is that she's very jaded and disillusioned and acts like she doesn't care abt anything or anyone as a defense mechanism and I think that's a fun sort of character to set up with someone like edelgard who believes So strongly. girl who doesn't think the world can change so why bother hoping x girl who believes that the world Must change and she has to be the one to do it. this too is yuri

yessss i do think that it's harder to write for ada. i think that we all subconsciously add our own ideas into how ada behaves and acts. and i think that's fine to some extent since she is "playing a role" isn't she? she's always this kinda cold person but we see her becoming softer for leon. so i think we have a bit of space to explore that and make a more "real version" of an ada. i do think that some people (even ada and aeon stans) still mischaracterize ada or her backstory, which is fine tbh since we have so little of her childhood, but like the egregious mischaracterizing (usually from anti ada and anti aeon people) is the kind of shit i hate- like her wanting to kill leon or something like that. or the flip side of her wanting to save the bunnies - although i do like the addition of her saving the chickens in re4r lol.

i like to think of them in both povs because i feel like it gives us a better way to move the plot along. if an entire fic is only from leon's pov it's a bit boring to me. i like the alternating povs and i usually write like that. the only ada only pov that i've ever written is this one.

even my other fics i add some of ada's pov.

i think it's important to explore both of their motivations and thoughts and ideas even if you don't end up writing one of their povs. it makes the writing disjointed sometimes if you don't think about the other characters and how they feel. even side or secondary characters i think it's important to flesh out just enough so that they're not just used as a plot device. (not to say only writing in characters for plot devices are bad, but keep them secondary characters or minor background characters.)

uhhhhhh honestly i write for fun so i just try to write a little bit when i feel like it T_T sjkdfbsjkfs i wrote a post on how to stay motivated but i don't remember what it was called. it might be tagged under like #heart writes or something like that

Samuel Fredrikson Hodgkin's, please? (I think it was spelled like this–?)

Ah yes the man of many names and many colors, Captain "I'm an inventor, I do what I like", Mr. "I base some of my thoughts on a literal picture book", sir "But he pays for the funerals!", let's see what we have here.

First impression: Of course my first impressions came from the 90s series which wasn't a bad impression perse. He was a nice character on his own (though his outfit is laughable and his constant smile is uncanny), like, he's your uncle Sam, the goofy guy from your dad's side of the family that helped you build a treehouse when you were a kid and took you out to a diner whenever you visited him, and then you find out he's a professional engineer for NASA and you feel a weird sense of shock from that revelation because he doesn't feel like an engineer for NASA.

Then there was the fanart of him being a tired dad to the crew and... It got a little monotonous even if the jokes were really funny. He just felt like a fandom Tony Stark to put it bluntly.

Impression now: He is literally my second favorite character and I crave a hug from that big ol' man. He has his shortcomings as a guardian figure and even a captain just in general but you can tell he's a really good guy and cares alot despite his more stand-offish exterior. He's just neurodivergent and fixates on his dream job of being an inventor and just...

I melt whenever I think about him being soft, man. He could probably kill you in a dozen ways at any given second but he's a good guy, aight?

Favorite moment: the "My name is Samuel Fredrickson!" in the 90s series will always be such an iconic thing to me because not only is it such a weirdly enthusiastic introduction to himself but it always gives way to characters actually having regular human names and you know I've exploited that greatly with my wonderful plethora of pun name headcanons I've given the characters.

Other than that I think the moment he went full speed ahead on the Amphibian while thinking about his nephew's safety when King Jones brought the crew news about the Niblings brings a non-literal tear to my eye. Like he cares that much about his nephew and it's great.

Idea for a story: Uhhhhhh his entire backstory is something I've been thinking about ALOT and I have this issue where I want it to be written but I haven't the motivation to write it myself not the desire to give that idea to someone else. Just stuff like his childhood/teen adventures with his brother or a young friendship with Aunt Jane or Hodgkins adopting Muddler after his parents were gone. There's alot there to be explored with this mysterious man who didn't give out a backstory in any iteration of Memoirs.

Unpopular opinion: ... Uhm... I think the tired dad trope for him is a tad bit mischaracterizing question mark? Like it's closer to his Memoirs characterization than the 90s version ever could be but it still reduces him alot and I wish there was more variety in the fanart produced of him. Also please give him an actual fashion sense Samuel Fredrickson is literally the only version of him to wear a onesie PLEASE.

Favorite relationship: I adore thinking about his relationship with Muddler as a caretaker who might've been emotionally lacking but is still fully understanding of his nephew and willing to help whenever he can, he just forgets to sometimes because interests get in the way. There's alot of potential in there and I dislike that people ignore that in favor of abusive Hodgkins or cold Hodgkins or Hodgkins not even being present in the story.

Favorite headcanon: His ears move around like bird wings and I'm sad people reduce them to just hair because his ears are one of the most important characteristics that Moominpappa focuses on in the book.
