Scenes that makes me soft in DMC5–
Nero offering food to—at the time—an unknown stranger
Dante telling V “this is my gig, leave Nero out of this” knowing damn well that Vergil is in fact his father and probably is doing it to protect him

Can I request a reader that works too much and doesn't have time to relax or sleep? Both working as a demon hunter and some other human job?
(You can pick, I couldn't think of anything. Just something tiring)
The Boy's, V, and Nico again plz!!
(Thank you for requesting ^^ Sorry it took a while, I'm just chipping my way through requests-- promise I'm not ignoring anyone haha💖)
DMC boys + V and Nico x Reader that is overworking themself♥
Summary; Reader works way too hard while balancing two jobs. Warning; Cursing, some actions could be considered as unlawful confinement but for a good cause lol, Reader works as a nurse but remains gender neutral!
MASTERLIST🌸
Tumblr media
Dante
Dante had never really thought about how hard a nurse’s job was until you started your second job. You wanted to bring some extra money into the shop, since it was getting kind of hard to pay bills, but it is taking its toll on you. Long hours in a busy environment, mixed with difficult patients and other bitchy nurses, has really been taking it out of you. You skip most meals, either because you’re stressed or just don’t have time, and Dante hasn’t seen you sleep for a while. You arrive home late and then leave early, before he’s awake.
He’s worried about you. But every time he broaches the subject, you get upset. The extra money you’re bringing in is what’s keeping the lights on! But… it really isn’t, babe. You’re too hard on yourself, you really don’t need to be working so hard. He thinks you're crazy trying to maintain two very different career paths.
The final straw for him is when you pass out in the middle of the office from exhaustion, that’s when he knows he’s let this go on for far too long. He catches you before you can hit the ground, but you could have been seriously hurt. He tucks you into bed and will not wake you up for anything. If anyone is too noisy in the shop he will flip his lid because “They’re finally asleep, shut up!” He’s whisper shouting as if that makes him any more quiet than if he had just spoken normally.
You wake up half an hour before your next shift and try to leave the shop but Dante puts himself between you and the door. “No, nope– not happening.”
“Dante, I’m gonna be late,” you groan, your jacket is literally on inside out.
“Call in sick,” he says, handing you your phone. You hadn’t even noticed he had taken it.
You refuse and try to force your way past him. What exactly were you hoping to accomplish? Because all that results in, is him picking you up and tossing you onto the couch. Your indignant yells fall on deaf ears as he legit drops his weight on top of you to pin you there. You are not going anywhere until you agree to take the next few days off and relax!
Eventually you realise that trying to push your boyfriend off is pointless and just accept your fate. “Ugh– fine! Just get off me before you crush me.”
“Wow, what are you trying to say, babe?” He feigns offence, rolling off the edge of the couch so he is sitting on the floor beside you. You make the phone call, under Dante’s watchful gaze. Making sure you didn’t try to make your great escape. Now that you’re free for the next few days, Dante plans to smother you in affection. You are going to relax whether you like it or not! Starting with some more sleep, so he takes you by the hand and leads you upstairs where you spend the night cuddled up with your lunatic of a lover.
Tumblr media
Vergil
Working as a nurse and part-time demon hunter was no easy task, but for years you held strong and didn’t once buckle under the stress. But lately… you’re spiralling and he can see it clear as day. Throwing yourself into your work to an obsessive extent. It’s difficult to balance two jobs, especially two very emotionally and physically demanding jobs. It’s gotten so bad lately that he rarely even sees you for days at a time, and when he does you’re dead on your feet.
You haven’t slept in at least 48 hours, Vergil knows that for certain. Twelve hour shifts back to back as well as helping out at Devil May Cry. How you’re even as composed as you are is a wonder in itself. He really wishes you would just take a break every once in a while to recharge. So as much as he respects your work ethic, when you return home from the hospital just to start getting ready to go out with Dante and Lady, he intervenes.
“Love, you’re working yourself to the bone.”
It’s rare for Vergil to ask anything of you, so when he asks you to please just sit and talk to him– you comply. You’re sitting on the couch together, he’s holding both your hands in his. You feel heavy, all your body wants is to sleep but you won't let it. Forcing yourself to sit up straight, you ask him what it is he wants to talk about.
“You need to rest,” he states. His tone is enough to tell you that he’s leaving no room for argument, yet you try anyway. He knew you were a stubborn fool the day he met you, but he never failed to be surprised by the lengths of which your stubbornness could reach. He doesn’t take no for an answer, threatening to literally tie you up if you don’t just go to bed and sleep for a few hours.
“Please, love,” the back of his fingers brushed against your cheek, his touch gentle, like he was handling delicate glass or porcelain.
The pleading in his voice was what convinced you in the end. Your boyfriend did not plead with anyone. Sighing in defeat, you lean into his touch, your heavy eyelids falling shut for just a moment. Vergil smiles softly, running his other hand along your neck. You snuggle into his shoulder as he carries you to your bedroom, not letting go when he tries to lower you onto the bed. Your fingers cling to his jacket, even in your half asleep state you’re strong for a human. Although he wonders if perhaps instead of you being strong– maybe you just make him weak?
He doesn’t try to fight you, giving in quickly and laying down in the bed with you wrapped securely in his arms. It’s hardly the most comfortable arrangement, but as long as you sleep soundly, he isn’t about to move.
Tumblr media
Nero
Nero wonders when the hell he became your mother. Isn’t nagging you to eat and sleep something parents do? He doesn’t even care, if you won’t look after yourself, he’s going to do it for you. It hurts to see you upset with him but no amount of yelling or guilt tripping will stop him from calling in sick to work on your behalf. He’s done it before and he’ll do it again. But through it all he remains a pillar of strength for you, making you coffee in the morning and forcing you to sit down and eat whenever possible.
What really makes him snap though, is when he comes home to see you crashed out on the couch, clearly having fallen asleep as you were getting ready for work. You wake up to the sound of the door closing, jumping to sit up in fright. When you see that you’re late for work, you spring off the couch and start running around trying to gather your things. Nero is having none of it. He sees how tired you are– it’s not hard to tell. Your lack of care when it comes to your own wellbeing sends him flying into a rage.
He doesn’t mean to be harsh with you, he really doesn’t, but the ensuing argument turns heated before he can even process the turn of events.
“You’re not going! Look at yourself, you need to sleep!” He’s standing between you and the door, a shield blocking you from further self destruction. Seeing the stress flowing off you in crashing waves breaks his heart, there’s nothing he wants more than to stop arguing with you… but he can’t just sit by and let you run yourself into the ground.
“Nero, I’m fine!” You insist with a glare, trying to get past him to no avail. You groan out in frustration. “Nero, move.”
“Not happening!”
The confrontation gets worse before it gets better, ending with you throwing yourself down on the couch with a huff. Nero sighs, kneeling down in front of you. He looks up at you with desperation in his blue eyes. “You’re killing me, angel,” he says, his human hand resting on your knee. “I watch you work yourself into an early grave everyday, and it kills me. I know that you’re mad at me right now, but please understand I’m doing this because I don’t want you to hurt yourself.”
You never meant to worry your boyfriend so much, and hearing him bare his heart to you brought tears to your eyes. Your Nero is such a strong man, unmovable and hotheaded and such a goddamn sweetheart. What did you do to deserve a partner like Nero?
You place your hand over his, “I’m sorry.”
“You don’t need to apologise–”
You shake your head. Even when you’ve hurt him he defends you. “No, I do. I’m sorry for worrying you, I’ll take the day off.”
After you call your boss and are granted the day off, you spend the rest of the day cuddled up on the couch with Nero. His demon hand rests on your back and his human one massages your scalp while you drift in and out of sleep, your face buried into his chest.
Tumblr media
V
V has never met anyone as dedicated to helping others as you, or anyone as married to their day job. At first he was mesmerised by your passion and work ethic, but quickly he saw the damage it is doing to you. Your exhaustion and the tension that always seems to knot in your shoulders are painfully obvious to him now. And he’s honestly at a loss of what to do. He doesn’t want to tell you what to do, you’re an adult afterall and capable of making your own decisions… but you're digging yourself into a hole that you might end up too exhausted to climb back out of.
Which is why he decides to trick you into resting.
He’s not above a little manipulation when necessary, even if he finds it to be a bit underhanded. Technically he’s not making you do anything, your free will still perfectly intact. He’s a good actor too, so you won’t even suspect him. He didn’t make Shadow lay on top of you, merely suggested it. You’ve always had a strange connection with her. All she has to do is curl up with you in bed and you won’t want to move. It’s an easy way to coax you into giving into your exhaustion and taking the day off.
When you’re in a more alert state of mind, no longer ready to pass out at any minute, he’ll have a serious conversation about you overworking yourself. He can’t trick you into resting forever, so you’ll have to come to some form of agreement. Creating a reasonable work schedule for both your day and night job– one that will leave you with enough time to actually function like a human should.
Tumblr media
Nico
Nico is scared for you. She knows what it’s like to be absorbed in your work, she’s the same in that sense, but you don’t know when to stop. It’s one thing to be passionate about your job and take up some extra shifts or work a little overtime– it’s something entirely different to work 8/12 hour shifts back to back and then also put 100% into your second job as a demon hunter. You need to have a limit, and you met yours a long time ago. You’re just willfully ignoring it.
She won’t sugarcoat it when she confronts you, you need to understand the effect your self neglectful behaviour is having on the people around you. “Darlin’, you’re not a machine!”
Nico doesn’t have much of a filter, but at the same time– she’s not particularly articulate. So expect her to stumble over her words a little. Give her a break, she cares about you and isn’t used to all this mushy, lovey dovey shit. She’s not going to make you sleep, but she will make you relax. No exceptions! You will sit on that pretty ass of yours and watch reruns of the Simpsons all day.

Howdy,
On account that I am your favorite cowboy, may I please request something special for a special someone?
“May I ask for some headcanons about "Monopoly night" for the DMC crew (or just some of them, whatever you feel most comfortable with!)?”
Take Your Time,
Rodeo
As my favorite cowboy and sister, I guess. 🤍 You know I’d die for you. lmao ugh I love this request and the special someone requester. I hope I do this justice! Please accept my attempt at humor.
Monopoly Night
SFW: Sparda family bonding (ft. Lady)
As with most things involving the Sparda family, they enter this situation in haphazard flourish.
It’s an hour into lazing around the adjacent sofas and chairs at Devil May Cry when Dante announces his boredom. There are no theatrics in his delivery, only the gruff exhale of a man who needs a stiff drink.
He’s tired of watching Vergil and Nero read in the hollow silence of resounding discomfort. The palpable tension and pointed aversion is stifling despite the gentle breeze through the open window.    > Ugh.
Vergil exhales a long-suffering sigh. “Entertain yourself.”
The tin static of the music blaring from Nero’s headphones punctuates the itch Dante has to disturb.
Nero’s foot bounces in idle while he turns the page. He doesn’t look up, as if he’s purposely refusing to acknowledge the room.    > He is.
Dante is forced to reconcile with the uncomfortable tension and his own exasperation as he kicks his boots up on his desk with a heavy thud, leaning back into his chair to close his eyes. All these years of longing for a family, of homesickness for a reality that isn’t his own, and this is what he’s given?     > He isn’t actually mad, of course.
He’s saved when Lady pushes open the doors, surveys the room and says, “Wow. Who died?”
An hour and a frustrating amount of digging later, Dante and Lady uncover an unopened box of Monopoly from the depths of one of Dante’s closets. As if it’s Jumanji, they handle it with care.
...until Dante slams it on the coffee table between Vergil and Nero.
Nero jolts, on his feet with his headphones off in seconds. His alarm melts into simmering anger. “C’mon! What the fu –”
While Vergil closes his book with a shadowed scowl. “What is the meaning of this?”
Lady circles the living room. She’s watching them. Dante catches the mischief gleaming in her eyes and reciprocates with a grin of his own, and as he folds his arms over his chest, Lady drops her heel against the table. Jarring and definitive. “It’s Monopoly, boys. Loser buys dinner for everyone.”
Nero caves without a fight, which Dante is both surprised by and, honestly, perhaps not at all surprised by when Nero starts to unbox the game. It’s Vergil who Dante (rightfully) assumes will decline.
“I’d prefer to finish my book. I have no inclination to play your childish games.”
What he doesn’t expect is for Nero to be the one to engage.
“Childish? Why? Because you're so fucking superior reading books in Latin?” Nero slams his palm on the coffee table, rattling the metal character pieces. “Would you just pick the damn top hat?”
There’s a long pause in which Nero and Vergil stare each other down. Lady looks between them, lips pursed, while Dante merely rolls his eyes.
Vergil folds first. With a derisive huff through his nose, he places his elbows on his knees and leans forward to retrieve the top hat.
Nero only squints as if to say, “That’s what I fucking thought you said.”
Everyone takes a seat and collects their pieces. Lady takes the boat, Dante claims the boot, Nero has the dog, and Vergil is already tapping his top hat on the table.
Lady dubs herself Queen and lays out the rules. She also acts as a referee, although she often instigates internal bickering in an effort to sabotage. Dante starts to call her out on this when she pits Nero on him – “You’re gonna let Dante buy your space?” – but Lady only smiles and winks. (“No one will ever believe you.”)
Vergil plays with strategy. He’s read the board and determined where he would like to build, although he doesn’t share and takes them by surprise when he chooses what seem to be lesser options. He’s the best equipped for victory with his methodical approach, but his money handling skills leave a lot to be desired. He overspends too quickly.
Nero plays on defense, too concerned with wasting the money he’s earned.
Roughly midway through, Vergil gets into a rant about the effects of late stage capitalism, and how this game isn’t meant to be fun, it’s meant to be disheartening. To crush spirits.
“This information is crushing my spirit,” Dante says as he, once again, hands money over to Lady.
“Nah, you’re crushed because you’re losing,” Nero answers.
The thing about Monopoly that the group either didn’t know or conveniently forgot is that it can, and often does, take hours to complete, depending on the intensity. And this game goes on for so long, Dante orders pizza and no one complains.
Dante swears he had more Monopoly money left, but Lady snatches it all from him and counts it out as they all stare.
Poor even in Monopoly, Dante loses it all to Lady who claims there’s a rule about accrued interest. He demands to see the rulebook but she tucks it into her shirt, eyes locked on his. Dante is neither brave nor rude enough to pursue further, although he does throw his head back and groan like a 42-year-old child.
With Dante bankrupt, Nero makes his way into jail for the fifth time before he stands up and says he’s had enough. Too competitive and sensing he’s on the brink of losing, he folds before he can have his ass handed to him by Vergil, who is absolutely 100% targeting him specifically.
Nero steals a slice of pizza straight from Dante’s hands as recompense. (And to distract himself from his frustration by riling up the man he looks up to for entertainment.)
Vergil and Lady continue for roughly another hour. Lady drops snide comments but Vergil refuses to take the bait, only ever offering the occasional raise of his brow or a roll of his eyes. Yet for all of his composure, Dante notices Vergil’s stack of money dwindling.      Further.          And further.
“Luck’s not on your side, Blue Twin,” Lady says as she opens her palm. “Cough it up.”
When Vergil hands over the last of it, Lady rises. She stands in front of her claimed chair, crosses her arms, and looks the picture of Rightfully Smug.
“So. Change of plans, guys,” she says when she has their attention. “You all owe me dinner. Separately. Whenever and whatever I want. Anyone have a problem with that?”
No one argues.
Lady always wins.

Spider Lily
For Day One of DMCWeek2020! The prompts filled for today was Weapon! Special thanks for @furyeclipse for the idea of the weapon in question.
Fandom: Devil May Cry Characters: Nico, Vergil/OC, Dante Tags: @nimnox @astral-space-dragon @queenmuzz @i-write-fanfics-to-procrastinate @harlot-of-oblivion
Summary: While Nico works on a new katana devil arm for Vergil, Cassandra and Vergil discuss the nature of devil arms and the long-shattered Astra.
It was a warm evening on the island of Fortuna. Outside, cicadas sang with the ocean waves beyond. Just a little ways away, the outskirts of Castle Town were quiet.
It was this evening that found Cassandra with Vergil in the Devil May Cry van. At her workbench, Nico was hard at work making her first proper Devil Arm. She remembered Nico practically vibrating with excitement from a trip to Japan with Lady and Trish, where they not only slew a rather violent and aggressive demon, but earned a slew of demon parts and materials for Nico’s projects. One such project was a katana, for Vergil. Behind Nico was the katana’s scabbard, a blood red sageo laying atop it. Sitting across from Nico’s workbench was a potted red spider lily, the inspiration for the devil arm in the making.
“Man, binding the demon into the metal was the biggest challenge in the first place.” Nico hummed. “Stubborn varmint.” The metal seemed to heat up angrily at that. “Oh can it, asshole!”
“I must admit, I never expected to find Nicolett- ahem, Nico’s work so...amusing.” Vergil hummed.
“It’s a hoot.” Cassandra grinned, her hands full of ice cream. “Here you go.” She handed him a cup of pistachio gelato. Vergil smiled as he took the cup and began to eat.
“Thank you, my dear.” Cassandra sat down next to him, beginning to eat her cup of cherry gelato. She looked to Nico. “Where’s Dante?”
“Probably pissing off Nero.” Cassandra said with a shrug. “He just does that, ever since they met.” Vergil let out a hum. Cassandra looked to the weaponsmith, noticing a sparkling black obsidian earring on the weaponsmith. She let out a hum. “Didn’t know Nico was into jewelry.”
“It’s more than just jewelry.” Vergil said. “I recognize it as an enchanted earring, to protect the wearer from demonic influence. Creating devil arms is a very dangerous task, she will need all the protection she can get.”
“Do you know that?” Cassandra asked. Vergil shook his head.
“No. I do not know about the creation of devil arms. But devil arms are dangerous in their own right so it stands to reason that their creation is even more dangerous. The weaponsmith must tame the devil’s soul into the metal.” Vergil explained. “Sometimes, a more powerful arm is split in some matter.” He looked to the Yamato, sitting quietly next to him. “My father split his original sword into three: the Sparda, Rebellion, and Yamato.”
“And, if what Dante told me is correct, he reunited Rebellion into the Sparda with his own blood, creating Devil Sword Dante.” Cassandra mused.
“Uncreative name aside-”
“He’s only creative when he’s fighting demons.” Cassandra pointed out. Vergil snorted.
“As I was saying, Dante technically created a new devil arm, using Rebellion and the Sparda as a sort of base. But I am only speaking in hypotheticals.” Vergil shrugged. “Devil Arms are...unique. And Dante’s is no exception.”
“And difficult to pin down in terms of crafting, aside from the fact that a demon’s soul is it’s core.” Cassandra finished. She looked to the scar on her left hand. “You wouldn’t happen to remember Astra, would you?”
“I believe you polished the blade as a subtle threat to me when I was V.” He replied. Cassandra cringed.
“Yeah...sorry about that.” Vergil chuckled. “But you remember the blade. I don’t think it was a Devil Arm.”
“No, I doubt it ever was one. I would call Astra a spirit weapon. Spirit weapons are exceedingly rare, tied to bloodlines.” Cassandra slowly nodded. All of that sounded correct. “They all fade at some point in time, but Astra’s shattering was what surprised me.” She felt his hand rub at her scar. “Astra appeared to have a few more generations before it would fade.”
“What can I say? Life throws curveballs.”
“Curveballs in the form of angry houseplants!” Nico yelled. Vergil glanced up to her, still hard at work at the katana, before awkwardly taking another spoonful of ice cream. Cassandra chuckled.
“Well, that curveball gave me a sassy sweary bird, a snuggly panther, a baby, and Cordelia, so I like to think I ended up smelling like roses by the end of it all.” She leaned onto Vergil. “And I got one very handsome half-devil as well.”
“Ugh, lovebirds. Get a room!” Nico gagged. Cassandra gave Nico a look. “And don’t think about using the van’s shower! That’s not a room!”
“I dunno, it technically would count as a room-”
“That’s a one way ticket outta my van!” Nico snapped.
“Nicoletta, the katana. You have to be focused on making the devil arm or the demon will escape from the metal.” Vergil cut through the conversation, his tone serious. Nico nodded and went back to work on the katana. Cassandra looked back to her gelato and continued to eat. A quiet fell in the van, aside from the sounds of Nico working hard.
“...Cassandra.” Vergil murmured. She looked up. “If you could keep Astra, would you?”
“...no. For one thing, I wouldn’t have Cordelia. I would never have to face the memories I forgot, either from trauma or a conscious attempt to forget. And I would probably have to slay your nightmares, something I...would have a hard time doing. I’m too fond of them.” She mused. Vergil nodded. “I wonder, if Dante had found them before me, would he have struggled with slaying them as well?” Cassandra fell quiet, a train of thought that Vergil didn’t want to go down either.
“Aaaaand done!” Nico chirped, sliding the newly-forged katana into its scabbard. Vergil put down the empty cup of ice cream and set it on the small table across from them. He placed the Yamato in Cassandra’s arms, earning a soft ‘oh!’ from her. Nico snickered at the sight, a snicker that faded when Vergil walked over to Nico. “Ahem!” She held up the newly forged katana. “Behind, my genius!”
“Does it have a name?” Vergil asked, glancing at the red spider lily across from the workbench. Nico grinned wide at that.
“I call it Spider Lily. But uh, brawling stuff? Don’t know about that. But I do know that the demon inside will try and make you go nutso if you stare at the reflection for too long.” Nico explained. Vergil slid the katana out of it’s scabbard, silver eyes staring deep into the blade’s shining surface. A tense quiet fell before he looked up, sliding the katana back into the scabbard.
“Child’s play.”
“Hey! My work is not child pl-”
“I was not referring to your craftsmanship. The demon bowed easily.” He said. “Your craftsmanship is impeccable.”
“...aww shucks.” Nico laughed, rubbing the back of her neck. “Cass, why is your man a charmer?”
“Because he genuinely likes your thirst for weaponsmith knowledge? You’re not as annoying as Dante?” Cassandra threw out with a shrug. “Speaking of Dante-” She looked out the window. “Ah, he’s coming back with a strawberry sundae. Probably bugged Nero into paying for it-” Vergil suddenly stepped out of the van. Cassandra watched as he walked over to Dante, pulling out the newly forged katana. Nico followed him, poking her head out of the opened door.
“Hey Verg, did you get yourself a new toy?” Dante asked, taking a bite of strawberry sundae. Vergil suddenly impaled his twin in the gut with the katana, earning a yelp of pain. “VERG!” Vergil pulled the katana out and inspected it.
“Hm.” He flicked the blood off the katana and slid it back into its scabbard. “I will need to hone it’s edge on other demons.”
“THEN WHY STAB ME!?” Dante yelled. “I nearly spilled my sundae!”
“If a blade cannot go through you cleanly, then is it a blade?”
“I’m just gonna eat my sundae-” He looked over to Cassandra, noticing the Yamato that was in her hands. “Huh, that’s where you put the Yamato.”
“Whatever are you talking about Dante?” Vergil asked, raising an eyebrow. Dante pointed his plastic spoon to Cassandra. Vergil’s eyes followed his spoon to her, then back to Dante, before a blush crept onto his face. He promptly pulled the katana back out and stabbed Dante again. Blooming from the wound was a scarlet dripping spider lily. Dante looked down, a noise of confusion passing his lips before it appeared to explode. Dante was thrown back a little from the blast, stumbling to the ground. Although his strawberry sundae thankfully didn’t spill, he was surrounded by scarlet spider lilies. Vergil sheathed the katana and returned to the van, ignoring Nico’s snickering.
“...well, I still got my sundae.” Dante huffed.

Summary:
In a city controlled by the generally altered race of Demons, Lady’s life as a mercenary on the lower floor was never easy. Especially when she ran into Dante. A demon on the hunt for his missing brother.

Fandom: Devil May Cry
Rating: Mature

Characters: Vergil, Lady, Dante, Trish
———–
Chapter 8:
“Who are you?!
The doppelgänger of Eva raised an eyebrow in confusion at his hysteria. “One of your kind?” She said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "I’m on your side, so calm yourself."
Wait, she sees herself as a demon? Great, that totally didn’t soothe Dante’s fears! In fact the complete opposite. Only bringing forth more questions than answers in his already overworked mind.
“S-Sorry. I, uh didn’t expect to see another…” He gulped for the words. "Another one of us down here.” He said shakily, lowering his sword, yet still not letting go of it completely. Playing along seemed like the best option right now in Dante’s mind. Freaking out, as reasonable as it was, wasn’t going to get him anywhere with this.“Why are you here then?"
“I would think the reason is pretty obvious, given that they are currently sitting around us.” The doppelgänger gestured to the limp bodies of the leaders.  “Dispatch sent me to deal with these lunatics, and so I have. Though, how very thoughtful of them to send me a backup just in case~ You’re a damn good fighter, and I like that in an assistant."
“Dispatch?” So the demonic military had been looking into taking out the Cult of Fortuna as well then? Eh, not too big of a surprise. It was always gonna be a matter of time. At least on the upside, they’d saved him a job by pulling their ‘disappearing’ act on them here and now. “Oh right, dispatch! Yeah, they didn’t tell me anything about you being here. So hence, uh… all that-”
“Its fine, all is forgiven.” She cut in briskly, waving him off. Clearly holding no resentment at least. “They were probably trying to protect my identity. It's hard to put up a decent front if you know who you can trust!”
“True” Dante responded, somewhat detached; weakly leaning back against the solid wall behind him. In truth, he barely processed her words, too unsettled by the tone of her voice, that gentle yet smug smile not too dissimilar to his own… it was all too uncanny.
Ugh, this is so weird! He whined to himself, rubbing the bridge of his nose tiredly. Why couldn’t she just be a clone of Lady? At least she’d have another pretty sister if that were the case! Maybe a little more murderous, but I could work with that-
A chorus of radio chatter spat its way out of the busted helmet. Easily startling the two of them, as they quickly turned their heads towards the sound. The thick static it emanated, made it far too hard to make out exactly what was being said. But if Dante had to guess just by how many voices were overlapping each other whenever it did get audible, the situation sounded quite hectic.
“Seems like security just found out about our little play session." Gloria commented, glancing over her shoulder towards the open door. The sound of a stampede of feet bashing against laminate sounding in the distance. She sighed, shaking her head. “And here I thought Agnus would be a slower runner.”
“Hang on, you didn’t kill all of them?!” Dante yelled in surprise. This wasn’t good at all. How the hell were they going to make good on their deal with Augustus if they hadn’t cut off all the hydra’s heads? (Maybe a bit too literally in the unfortunate case of the guy near to Dante.) God, Vergil was going to have his guts for this…
“I dealt with who I was ordered to deal with. We’ll leave it at that.” The woman in white said ominously, turning her back on him and heading towards the door.
“Right. Totally not the short and simple way of saying you fucked up!” Dante scoffed, unbelieving.
“Oh, I could’ve killed him if I wanted.” Gloria reassured him confidently. Throwing her gilded blade up into the air playfully and catching it again stylishly. “We need to get moving.”
She left the room. Leaving Dante to on hurry after her begrudgingly; his bold red half-cape billowing behind him.
Okay. Maybe we can still get away with this, even if the cult leaders aren’t all dead! Dante thought, trying to reassure himself. As long as the Cult of Fortuna doesn't reform under Agnus. Augustus will have no reason to think we screwed up. Yeah! All he wants is his family to be free. So like he need to know about the finer details of this mission anyway-
His stream of consciousness was abruptly cut off, when his foot came into contact with something solid and heavy, just as he passed through the doorway. The demon glanced down curiously, only to immediately regret the decision when he found the two guards who’d assailed him at the door, laying out cold on the floor. Looking distinctly very dead, if the large pools of blood around them was anything to go by.
That explains why you guys didn’t come charging in at the first sound of commotion. Damn. Dante mused, awkwardly stepping over the guard’s arm he’d come into contact with. Trying to avoid getting blood on his dark metallic feet, with picky, small steps.
“Are you coming?” Gloria’s impatient voice asked. Dante looked up, finding his mothers doppelgänger standing there in the darkness with her arms crossed disapprovingly - still holding her sword in one hand. “The sight of a few dead bodies scaring you, recruit?”
“Hey, I’m not the summer intern lady! Show me some respect, alright?” Dante said, biting back with his usual wit. Confidently walking off ahead of her down the hall ahead of her. “What even gives you authority over me anyway?”
“Oh I’ve only spent the last six months infiltrating my way inside here. I’d think with that amount of effort, I should be in charge instead of the guy who rocks up at the last minute!”
“Hey, sometimes it’s only the last few minutes that count in the end anyway!” Dante responded cheekily, lifting his crimson sword up and resting it on his shoulders. An overly-dramatic, mournful sigh escaping him, as he pressed his hand on his forehead, like he was a tragic character on stage. “Though, not that my epic tea serving skills will ever be appreciated now."
“They were very nice, dear.” Gloria complimented calmly from his side. The blond woman had caught up with him once again. "Is that what you wanted to hear?”
“Perhaps. Although your real name would be nice too.” Dante smirked.
He knew he was pushing it a bit here. If she was sent by the demonic military, it was likely she wasn’t allowed to reveal her true identity to anyone for the sake of keeping things nice and secure; names always meant loose ends, and that was never good for anything covert.
It was a rule that Dante knew better than most (He kinda broke it... pretty often. Had the higher-ups or his dad found out about his first meeting with Lady for example, he no doubt would’ve gotten one hell of a rocket up his ass for how many protocols he’d broken). So the chances that uptight ‘Gloria’ here was gonna spill the beans on…well anything about herself, let alone the similarities to his mother, was unlikely at best.
It seemed he wasn’t wrong, as Trish’s face turned hard at the suggestion. Looking dead ahead with the stern procession, pretending as though he wasn’t there. Leaving an uncomfortable silence (Not that you couldn’t really call it that though, with all the panicked yelling and commands to ’search the area’ echoing down from a few corridors back) to fall upon them.
But that wasn’t to say there was a glimmer of hope. Every now and then, her lips would twitch almost like she was on the verge of saying something before shutting herself down once again. Until finally, she anxiously glanced over her shoulder and spoke.
“Trish.”
Hot damn! He actually got something out of her! “Trish? Oh like Beatrice-“
“Just Trish.” She insisted firmly. Her fixing her green eyes over to the young man beside her, with an fearsome intensity only Vergil could match. "And your’s?”
Oh. He hadn’t thought that far ahead with this.
Should I tell her? Crap, that was a tough question. Sure in the here and now it would be fine. Perfectly reasonable too since she’d given her own. But, what happened when this mission was over? Trish would most likely have to report back on how this operation went down. Write up some boring essay that Dante normally left Vergil to handle. She’d surely mention he was involved as her ‘back-up’ or something. And that would be fine if she left it vague. There were plenty of grunts like him out there so he’d be pretty anonymous.
But…if he was named. It wouldn’t take long for some clever-clogs back at dispatch to realise he was here unauthorised. Questions would be asked most certainly, and Dante wasn’t sure how well he or Vergil could defend themselves once that started happening. What, being involved in an unauthorised capacity on an operation months in the making, if he went off what Trish said. From there, it could only unravel more and more. The two week absence, Vergil’s little murder tour of the cities’ databanks, Lady, Eva-
What if they already know about Eva?  Stuck the sudden, horrifying thought. Trish thinks she’s a demon. What if they had- No! They can’t have done that!
“I’m risking a lot telling you that, you know?” Trish huffed angrily, brushing hair out of her face rather elegantly. “Going to return the favour or not?”
“Yeah yeah I am..” Dante brushed her off, his voice quivering slight. If.. if they had done what he thought they’d done. There was no point hiding anything anymore.
There was no point to anything.
“Its.. its Dante”
“Good name.” Trish praised, a faint smile tracing her lips.
“Heard it before then?” He pried, returning with his usual confidant edge. Yet, that couldn’t be anywhere further from the truth in reality. His stomach was a torrent of nervous energy, swishing and swirling in anticipation for what would come as her reply. Honestly not sure if it would be a blessing or a curse if she did recognise him.
“No. It's just an instinct. Nothing grander than that I’m afraid.” Trish professed a little bashful. “Although, rolls off the tongue rather nicely I suppose."
“I’ll take that as a compliment.” Dante said, smiling weakly. Perhaps there was something there after all…
All of a sudden, Trish reached an arm across Dante’s chest and pulled him so they were both pressed flat against the wall.
“Hey, what was that for-“
“Shut it.” Trish ordered sternly, voice low. Putting a finger to her lips, before gesturing with her eyes to the end of the corridor.
Dante followed their gaze. In the dull yellow light leaking from around the corner. Two shadows, large and twisted in a way that made their builds indistinguishable, traced their way across the floor. Thankfully it seemed they had already passed by, if Dante guessed from the direction the shadows were moving. Having missed the pair of demons completely by some stroke of luck.
“Think we’re safe. They’re leaving.” Dante whispered, moving to get up, only the flat edge of Trish’s golden blade to be pressed against his chest. Pinning down him in place, unmoving.
“Not so fast.” Trish advised sternly. Carefully observing the shadows’ movements as they danced across the floor. “They’re going to loop back round any minute now."
“Loop back round? Look, their probably just catering staff on the move. Unless they’ve dropped any napkins on the floor that I’ve missed here, they are going to be long gone any minute now-“
“And why exactly would catering staff move in groups of two?” Trish inquired. She had a point. Tonight had taught Dante enough to know he was barking up the wrong tree here. He’d been left to do stuff on his own, actively encouraged in fact. So yeah, for two people to be walking around together with no trolly did seem kinda strange to be honest. “They’re most likely guards on patrol no doubt. My men….the cults' guards have a protocol to move in groups of two. Means if one goes down the other can call for help. I know because I instituted it."
“Geez, thanks for making our lives harder I guess?” Dante joked.
“Oh I try my best~” Trish stated modestly. Removing her sword from his chest and lowering it back down to her side. “May as well make it up to you then, shouldn’t I Dante? I’ll only be a moment."
Sticking close to the wall, Trish swiftly began to make her way down the corridor. Disappearing around the corner moments later in one fluid, deadly movement.
Off she goes killing again. Dante sighed to himself, letting out air he didn’t even realise he was holding in. The relief that he was on his own again striking him in that moment. He was thankful for it. Any more stress, and his strained heart probably was gonna give out young. And let’s just say keeling over from a heart attack, wasn’t exactly on the demon's to-do list tonight.
The young man reclined his head back against the freezing wall. Maybe I should tell her to just keep to non-violent takedowns until we get out of here. Would’ve thought a trail of dead bodies is going to be pretty obvious to follow-
“What the-“ Cried a distinctly familiar, peppy voice. Followed by a surge of bright blue light streaking across the wall from around the corner. The crash of someone collapsing to the ground echoing down the corridor to Dante’s sensitive ears. Alerting him.
That can’t be good! Dante thought, imminently springing into action. Hurriedly sprinting down to check what was going on.
Only to be met at gunpoint by Lady when he rounded the corner.

A very self indulgent piece
For those who follow along with my ramble in the tags, you might have noticed I’ve frequently mentioned an Unnamed Brawler OC that I lovingly refer to as Punchy. She’s essentially my shameless self insert OC that I hardly have any backstory/narrative arc for, but I wrote this lil’ one shot(?!) because I couldn’t get a very particular moment in her meeting with Vergil out of my head.
The essential core of her background is that she works closely with Red Grave’s underbelly/black market. I haven’t given the structure of said underbelly much thought as of yet, since I’d like to focus on other writing projects first, so I can’t really say what the nature of her work is just yet, but the crux of this OC’s relationship with Vergil can be summed up by Enemies To Lovers. They legitimately hate each other at first kjsfh.
I’m calling it a self indulgent piece because this pretty much amounts to my own Christmas present to me LMFAO so honestly, no hard feelings if it isn’t your cup of tea!!
For once, things are quiet at Devil May Cry. The jukebox sits completely ignored in the corner with nary a sound coming from its frayed speakers, and though normally at this time of day, Dante can normally be seen napping, he instead sits quietly, flipping through old files in preparation for an upcoming job. As it turns out, keeping references of previous jobs on hand is indeed beneficial, though Dante will be in the ground long before he admits it to his brother. Speaking of, Vergil sits at his own desk, perpendicular to Dante's, penning said new job into his business ledger. The fan gently whirs overhead, the blades slowly cutting through the air to provide (in)adequate ventilation in the stuffy office. Honestly, one fan in such a large open space? What were the interior designers thinking when they built this place? But Vergil has to remind himself that the 'interior designer' in question is none other than Dante himself - many of the fixtures around the office were installed by Dante long ago. For better or for worse.
"What was the client's name again?" Vergil taps the pen on the paper as he tries to recall it, eyes trailing up towards the ceiling in thought. Ugh, there's mold all the way up there. Is there a leak in the ceiling he isn't aware of? He mentally puts a tab on it to remind himself to set some money aside to get it fixed. How did Dante tolerate living in such squalor for so long?
"Uhhh." That honestly tells Vergil all he needs to know about whether or not Dante holds the answer to his question. "Weren't you the one who spoke to him last?"
Well. Yes. But that's well beside the point.
More lowkey exasperated than actually annoyed, Vergil dramatically rolls his eyes. "I'll call Morrison. He will know." With a low groan of his chair scraping backwards on the floorboards, Vergil drops the pen in his hands atop his open ledger and steps over to Dante's desk, immediately going for the phone. But his hand stops just short of the phone's receiver on the cradle, feeling a mild jolt of static electricity leap from the phone to the very tips of his fingers. It doesn't hurt - something as insignificant as mere static electricity isn't enough to pose even an inconvenience, let alone a threat. And yet his eyes narrow down at the innocuous phone… how so very strange to have that sort of static build up at this time of year.
"Hey do you smell that?" Dante's already sniffing the air even as he asks that question, and with a vague tilt of his head, Vergil watches him for a moment before he too gives the air a slow, tentative sniff. It smells… damp? A little humid? Almost like… "Rain?"
Vergil touches his fingertips together, eyes narrowing at this strange occurrence. It doesn't just feel like rain. Not with the fizzle he felt in his fingertips. "I think more a storm."
And one that doesn't feel at all natural.
When Vergil's gaze flickers over to his brother, Dante already seems to understand - all traces of humour have fallen away from his face, because something is certainly coming. A demon? Unlikely - they would have detected its actual physical presence instead of the mere symptoms of it. So what then? Because the charge in the air is by no means the work of a mere human.
The sound of the front door being kicked open by an unknown figure has the twins on immediate alert, primed and ready to face whatever dares invade their property. As the double doors slam back on their hinges, a lone figure stands. She doesn't wait for the dust to settle, already stomping several paces inside and loudly, brazenly declaring herself.
"You've got some gigantic balls to be starting shit on our turf." The woman tugs at the sleeves of her jacket, blows an errant lock of maroon hair from her face and makes a show of cracking her knuckles, showcasing the odd gauntlets that adorn both of her hands. They look to be made of steel, but even at a cursory glance, both twins immediately know it isn't of any metal to be found in the human world. It covers her hands and forearms like armour, sheets of backwards facing plates that look almost like feathers. And they pulse with a crackle. A sizzle of electricity.
The storm.
A Devil Arm.
Dante looks to Vergil, hoping for an explanation as to what the woman is talking about, but he finds that Vergil is mirroring that exact look, reflecting it right back at him. He turns his head to regard the woman in the doorway again. "Look, lady, I honestly have no clue what you're talking about. I suggest you head back to whoever sent you and get your facts checked before feelings get hurt."
He glances down at her clenched fists, noticing for the first time that it isn't just her arms that are… well. Armed. She's sporting a pair of greaves too. Forged from the same material, and abuzz with the same charged crackle of electricity. If this keeps up, it might not just be feelings that are in danger.
So much for it being quiet..
"Like fuck I'm gonna do that. We have video proof of your crimes." She marches through the office, making an immediate beeline towards Dante's desk, but is suddenly stopped by something long and thin across her body, stopping her progress forward. Off to the side, Vergil holds Yamato, still sheathed, out to impede her, effortlessly and single handedly halting her forward momentum. The look in his eyes is sharp, dripping with venom. He doesn't care much for what Dante gets up to in his spare time, but he is more inclined towards believing the word and apparent innocence of his brother before that of a complete and honestly barbaric stranger. And thus, he will defend Dante until proven guilty.
His pride will not have it any other way.
But the woman cares not for his intimidation display. Her brow furrows, and with a snort, she bats the currently harmless sword away, immediately lunging forward to grab at Dante's collar with both her hands. Though he's admittedly rather touched by his brother's faith in him, he raises a hand at Vergil even when the woman, seemingly effortlessly, lifts him out of his chair and halfway over his own desk. A gesture that tells Vergil he need not interfere. That he's got this under control.
Because he does, really - he is the sole inheritor of Sparda's legacy, after all.
That doesn't mean he isn't allowed to have a little fun.
And, believing in his brother, Vergil stands down, albeit visibly displeased with a tranquil fury that seethes and simmers underneath the veneer of a clenched fist.
"What happened to you two being neutral ground?" The woman bunches more of Dante's coat into her fist and twists on the spot to toss him over her shoulder. With a smile, one that's lost on the woman in her anger, Dante lets it happen. He doesn't make a sound when his back collides with the wooden floor, as casual and calm as can be.
"Last I checked, that's what we still are." He replies with a shrug.
"Then explain why two of our boys were found dead." The woman draws back a fist, gives a slight shake of her head.  "Tell me what business a neutral party has with fucking around on our turf. If you can't tell me, then--" The downward swing of her hand is fast, surprisingly so, but for someone like Dante, someone so naturally attuned to the fight, there is ample time for him to respond. And he does so with a slow, but well-timed tilt of his head to one side, leaving the woman's fist sailing harmlessly by his head to punch right through the floorboards underneath where his head previously lay. He does no more than regard it with a slight widening of his eyes - a faux intrigue - and then he's looking back up at her. There's a palpable rage in her eyes, brimming and overflowing, yet she doesn't lash out with reckless abandon. That means she has discipline. Training. "--then I beat it out of you."
Before she can pull her hand back from the gaping hole in the floorboards, Dante grabs her arm, mimicking her earlier motion and moving to flip her onto her back just as she had done to him. Whatever training she has, whether professional, or the sort taught by pain and personal experience, Dante intends to test it. Why? No particular reason, really. Just that it's been a quiet day in Devil May Cry.
Vergil, meanwhile, senses this. He knows that Dante is simply playing with his food, so to speak, but he will give it a few more minutes before this ridiculous farce has to end.
Just a few more minutes.
The woman lets Dante grab her, arms immediately flying to his so that he can properly support her weight. Not that such a move was necessary in the first place, but she hasn't had the luxury? The honour? The experience of fighting with a hybrid before, much less one of Dante's calibre - her usual targets are humans. Strong humans, yes, but ones with strength bound to the laws of human physics. Fighting a half demon is new. Potentially dangerous. And so that's why when she hits the floor, when Dante assumes he's turned the tables on her, she rolls, following the momentum and lines herself up along the length of Dante's arm, winding her legs around it, and locking them beyond his head in an arm bar. If she cannot gain the upper hand through physical strength alone, then all she has to do is endure. The pressure on his elbow and shoulder should render him immobile.
Should. It depends on how lucky she gets.
"You know what the rules of this town are." She adjusts her grip, twists Dante's arm just a little more, forces more weight onto his shoulder with a tensing of her legs. She can feasibly hold this position all day if she has to. "You do not engage with us, and we do not conduct our business within your proximity. That was the agreement!
"The pulling sensation in Dante's shoulder is an inconvenience at best, the sharp pull of his muscles making it harder for him to properly worm his way out without muscle tearing. But he has the ability to instantly heal - what's a torn ligament or a broken bone in the face of that? He isn't afraid of where this situation could go, but he is impressed by her ability to adapt..
"And that's how I'd like to keep it. I like the neighbourhood being nice and quiet, you know?" With his free hand, Dante grabs the woman's ankle, ignoring the crackling feedback he feels surging through his fingertips at the contact with an unwilling Devil Arm. He forces the lock her legs have on him, feeling her fight to push back, feeling that jolt in his arm increase into an audible sizzle. The smell of rain returns to the office, and the very air begins to churn and vibrate, sparking and buzzing. An energy builds, one that both twins recognise as coming from the Devil Arm on her hands and feet.
With a crack, Dante's arm jerks off the woman's ankle, blown back by an involuntary spasm in the muscles in his arms. And the pressure returns.
But that's when Vergil decides he's waited long enough. He phases to the center of the office where two fools now lie in a grapple, sword already drawn. The tip of Yamato points down at the woman's throat, a wordless request for her to desist. But her stare is unwavering and adamant, the rage from before nowhere close to being quelled, and in an act of stubborn defiance, she tightens the hold on Dante's arm even more.
So Vergil tries again.
"This farce has carried on long enough. I will ask you only once - let him go." He emphasises his point with that on the Yamato, nudging it forward enough that it pricks into the skin under her chin.
"You'd protect your piece of shit brother?" Her voice is as even as they'd ever heard it, a veritable calm before a crack of thunder. "I'd heard differently about you."
"I will handle my brother." A bead of crimson gathers on the tip of his sword, yet the woman doesn't lean away. "Whatever crime you are recklessly accusing him of committing will be investigated. And whatever ring you work for, whoever sent you here today, tell them that it is on our good grace that you return alive after this insult."
She maintains eye contact with him, a sombre brown clashing with overcast eyes as she angles her head to one side to spit on their floor, at which Vergil frowns all the more. But she does relent, entire body going lax as Dante pulls himself free. He clambers to his feet, going to stand by his brother as he rotates the joint of his shoulder. But even with his brother now free, Vergil doesn't remove the Yamato from underneath the woman's chin, keeping it poised as the droplet of blood it's collecting grows larger.
"I mean investigate all you want, Verge, I'm clean. Broke as we are all the time, I'm not big on turning to crime just to get by." Dante lets his arms fall to his sides. "You know, 'honour among thieves' or whatever."
The older twin silences his brother with a sharp look out of his peripheral, but that split second he spent looking away from the woman results in something even he failed to anticipate. Vergil feels a tug on the Yamato, and when he casts his eyes back down to the floor, it's to the woman gripping the blade with her hand. The feral look in her eyes is accentuated by the smile at pulls at her lips, slightly unhinged, deranged - not unlike a wild animal that's been backed into a corner with nothing to lose. The tension that Vergil can feel along his blade originates from both ends like an infernal, borderline sadistic game of tug-of-war. Neither side will give in, even when blood seeps from within the gaps of her gauntlets, dripping down her hand and gathering at the butt of her palm. It paints bright red spots on her jackets with each drop, blooming into tainted flowers on the material.
"Then you will eventually come to realise that your good grace was wasted on me." Her hold on Yamato's sharp edge tightens, and Vergil can feel her twist the blade in her hand. With such force and with the cutting edge that Vergil knows Yamato has, it has to be cutting to the bone, yet she doesn't flinch. Doesn't blink. She is resolute, and he can't tell if that look in her eyes is fearless or reckless.
"You'll realise that you should have just fucking killed me when you had the chance, bitch boy."

Silver Rose [Vergil/Reader] {Devil May Cry} Nero
Tumblr media
AN: Ahem... confession I’ve never personally played dmc4... Nero’s personality is based off of what I’ve seen of dmc4 on YT and from dmc5.
So, hopefully this isn’t too off the mark.
Still getting it together with the jet lag, if I’m being completely honest. I slept through an entire day just to fix it a little. And I’m still waking up and falling asleep at odd hours.
|Masterlist Link|    |First Chapter|    |Prev. Ch.| --- |Next Ch.|
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Come on, Y/N! You know you want to!” Dante teased, while dragging you through the streets of Fortuna. Somehow, your brother in law had managed to drag you from the confines of your room to another city almost completely isolated from the rest of society.
At first, you’d been under the impression that Morrison had given the two of you a new job. Dante had practically burst into your room that morning with a bright grin, chattering about how the two of you had a lot to get done in the next few days. That “we’ll be set for a few months.” So, thinking that it was a high paying job for once, you’d practically flown out of bed to get ready for a rewarding mission. You’d been suspicious of Dante insisting that you ride along with him on his bike, but you’d let it go on account of Dante giving you the puppy eyes that made you incapable of carrying a grudge against him. It had taken you half a day of traveling before you’d started to read the road signs along the highway. All seemed fine until you’d read, “Fortuna - 30 miles away,” and you’d promptly screamed at Dante, who, like always, laughed at your expense. You had reluctantly agreed to wanting to meet Nero, but you didn’t think that Dante would spirit you away the very next day.
It was at that point that you realized why Dante had been so insistent on you not taking your own bike. He didn’t want you trying to run away. No matter how much you argued, Dante didn’t stop the bike the rest of the way to Fortuna. And it wasn’t like you could simply jump off a motorcycle that was going 130mph.
“This is humiliating, Dante!” You cried, digging your boot heels into the cobblestone ground as Dante dragged you backwards through the streets. If was a fact that the two of you looked ridiculous to the people of Fortuna, and you could almost hear them whisper about the rowdy outsiders.
“Well, it wouldn’t be humiliating if you’d. Just. COOPERATE!!” Dante grunted, giving a hard yank with his arms wrapped around your waist. The leather on his coat sleeve gave a protesting squeak.
“You can’t make me do this!” The protest left your mouth along with a loud yelp at suddenly being yanked.
“You’re a grown ass woman, Y/N!”
“And as a grown ass woman, I can make my own decisions!”
“Well, you sure ain’t acting like one! Stop being a coward!”
“I’M NOT A COWARD!”
“YES, YOU ARE!”
“NO, I’M NOT!”
“YES.”
“NO!”
“YES!”
“NO!”
“WHAT ARE YOU SO SCARED FOR?”
“I AIN’T GOING TO BE A REPLACEMENT!”
…..
…..
“…What?”
Your answering grumble was enough of a sign for Dante to turn you around in his arms, forcing you to either stare at his chest, or his face. You weren’t normally this unreasonable. “Y/N… what’s really bothering you?”
“… I’m scared that he won’t like me trying to play at being his mother, Dante.” You whispered, wanting to disappear in a hole at all the stares being directed at the two of you. If Nero was anything like his father or uncle, then he was the type to dislike being underestimated. “I don’t want to just pop into his life after eighteen or so years and be like, ‘Hey! I’m your stepmother, I’ve come to  support you!’ What if he thinks that I’m pitying him?”
“Y/N… you don’t have to be his mother. Just… be there for him. Nero’s not the kind of person to just take charity, but he’s also not the type to dislike a person upon meeting them.” Dante sounded so sure of himself as he reassured you, but you still fidgeted from the nervousness.
“I… I’ll go see him, but if Nero finds my presence annoying, then I’m out. I just want…” You didn’t finish your sentence as you toyed with the necklace around your neck. I just want a family, again. You didn’t have to voice the last bit, the suddenly somber glint in Dante’s eyes told you that he knew exactly what you were thinking.
“You know… maybe you should let me come to my own conclusion before you start worrying.” A playfully annoyed voice suggested from behind. An embarrassing squeak left your lips as you spun around to confront the voice’s owner, indignant at being caught unaware.
The first thing that caught you off guard was the chin length white hair, still so striking even after spending years in the company of the twin Sons of Sparda. He was young, but he was tall, almost as tall as Dante, if not a few inches shorter, and you had to tilt your head to look him in the face. It was like a slap to the face with how similar he looked to Vergil, and you found yourself taking an involuntary step backwards in shock. He had the same blue eyes that made your legs weak, stubborn, passionate sapphire eyes so much like his father’s. But that self-assured smirk was without a doubt something that Dante shared with the young man. Without a doubt, the young man that stood before you was Nero.
A silence settled over the three of you until Dante broke the silence. “Hey, Nero! Long time no see! How have you been, kid?” Your eyes narrowed at your brother in law… real smooth, Dante. Real smooth.
“We just saw each other two days ago, Dante. Not much has changed since.” Nero’s expression was absolutely blank as he pointed this fact out to Dante. It was true enough, which probably made Nero very suspicious of Dante’s sudden return with a stranger nonetheless. The young man’s eyes flickered to look you over before he directed the next question towards you. “So what brings you to Fortuna?”
“We were actually looking for you, Nero.” You winced at how uncomfortable you sounded.
Nero spread out his arms briefly as he spoke, “Well, here I am. What did you need that warranted coming back so quickly? The city’s still in ruins you know?”
“Actually,” Dante started, raising a finger to the sky, “how did you find us so quickly?”
Nero blinked once… twice… three times before using his thumb to point backwards at the large estate behind him. “You were both making a ruckus outside of the orphanage… and I live in that orphanage.”
You lifted a hand to smack Dante on the back of his head and turned to glare at him. “So your plan was to drag me kicking and screaming across Fortuna until Nero found us?! What kind of shitty plan was that!”
“Ow! Hey! Y/N! At least it worked!” Dante protested when you tried to hit him again, pointing at the much younger man. “Worked like a charm! He found us!”
“Yeah, after half of Fortuna pointed and stared at us!” You threw your arms up in exasperation before promptly burying your face in your hands and muttering, “Ugh. I’m so not ready for this.”
“Uh. Dante? You going to introduce us?” Nero chimed in, a smirk on his face as he crossed his arms, waiting patiently for the two of you to get your acts together.
Dante gave an easy grin as he hauled you up from your hunched and embarrassed position, spinning you around and draping his left arm strategically over your shoulders so that you couldn’t lift your arms to hide your face. You shot your brother in law an indignant scowl when he proceeded to poke your cheek with his index finger. “This particular ball of pint sized sunshine… is Y/N. She’s my sister.” At this, your cheek twitched from how unbelievable this lie was.
Nero, for his part, looked equally unimpressed, and shifted his weight to lean on one foot. “Right. You don’t resemble one another at all.”
“She’s adopted?” Dante explained, sounding unsure of himself as he shrugged. “Anyways, I thought I’d bring her here to help with the relief effort. Y/N’s a bit of a do-gooder and likes to look after people.”
Oh, how you wanted to strangle Dante. You weren’t pint-sized and you sure as hell were not a do-gooder. If anything, Dante’s the do-gooder with how often he doesn’t accept payment for his jobs. Deciding that you’d deal with Dante’s lame explanations later, you slapped a friendly smile on your face and offered your right hand for a handshake, “Nice to meet you, Nero. Dante wouldn’t shut up about you.”
For a brief moment, Nero’s blue eyes flickered back and forth between your eyes and your offered hand, and you knew that you were being sized up. After a few seconds, Nero’s thin lips curved into a boyish grin and he took your hand in his, giving a gentle but firm shake. “I appreciate the help, Ms. Y/N.”
Before you could respond that Nero didn’t have to add a title to your name, a shock seemed to run up both of your arms, and the two of you promptly released each other’s hands. By your side, Totsuka hummed in recognition at the familiar presence, and Nero’s demonic arm started to glow. Nero’s eyes narrowed suspiciously at you, “Who are you, Y/N?”
“I… uh… think it’s better if we talked about this in private, Nero.” Dante suggested, getting in close to Nero and whispering, “Y/N’s connected to the Yamato.”
The younger man seemed to recoil at the mention of the Yamato, confusion plastered on his face as he glanced at your own bewildered face. “Yeah, fine, we’ll talk in the garage.” With a small wave to follow, Nero pulled away from Dante and began to stroll towards the large ornate building behind him, pulling open the nearly demolished black gate to lead the two of you through.
It might have been a very beautiful orphanage at one point, if not for the rubble that littered the property. You thought that perhaps at one point, children might have spent their time running around the large lawn, noticing the various tire swings decorating the larger trees and the metal playground. There were definitely still children living in the orphanage, as you could see their little faces peaking out at you from the orphanage windows, but you guessed that it was still too dangerous for them to be playing outside.
Around the side of the orphanage was a less ornate structure attached to the building. The garage seemed to have been a side thought to the entire structure, only added because of convenience from the looks of how bland it was.
It was only after the three of you were inside the garage that Nero turned around and demanded, “Okay. What the hell is going on?”
Dante made the expression that he normally used when he was about to start spouting nonsensical information, so you kindly stepped up to cover his mouth. “My husband was the previous owner of the Yamato.”
Nero blinked for a moment before looking down at his still glowing arm, “You’re not here to take it back, right?”
You shook your head, hand still firmly on Dante’s mouth. “No. I’d imagine the only way to retrieve the Yamato would be to cut your arm off.” When Nero defensively hid his arm from your view, you chuckled and shook your head. “Besides, the Yamato tends to be attracted to its owner’s next of kin.”
“Next of kin?” Nero muttered before something seemed to click in his head, “Wait, so does that mean my father is…”
“My husband, yes.” You confirmed, looking as uncomfortable as Nero was.
“Then… are you my mother?” You didn’t know if it was hope, anger, or sadness that made Nero’s voice tremble just the slightest.
You shook your head sadly, “I’m not, Nero.”
“But if you’re not my mother, then… oh.” Realization dawned on him at the circumstance to his birth and suddenly the boy looked pained, “I’m sorry.”
You managed a grateful smile, your hand dropping from Dante’s mouth. “You’re a sweet boy, Nero. I’m sorry that I didn’t come find you sooner. It must have been difficult without parents.”
“I wasn’t alone, though.” Nero’s blue eyes lit up from memories of happy times, “I had Credo and Kyrie to help me. I… uh… do you want to meet Kyrie, Ms. Y/N?”
You nodded the affirmative and moved to follow Nero into the main house, “I’d love to, Nero. And you don’t have to call me Ms.”
“Then, what do I call you?”
“Just Y/N is fine, Nero.”
“Y/N, then.”
….
“Seriously, guys? You just forgot about me?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Around a year later.
“Nero, behind you!” Bang!
“Thanks for the save, Mom!”
The two of you stood in silence at the center of a ring of ash, having killed a good handful of demons. Both of you paused in awkward silence, your eyes wide in surprise, and Nero bashfully sporting a dusting of pink on his cheeks.
“I mean… uh…” Nero stuttered, trying to explain his slip up before huffing and giving up, scratching the side of his cheek, “Can I… call you that?”
“You want to call me ‘Mom?’” you wheezed, eyes burning from the overflow of emotion you sudden felt.
“I mean, if you don’t mind-”
“I don’t.” You interrupted, looking touched and determined to make this work. “I don’t mind if you call me that.”
Nero’s posture relaxed a great deal, a relieved grin appearing on his lips. “Seriously? That’s great.” The younger devil hunter gave a huge sigh, “Okay… Mom.”
You bit your lip when Nero called you his mother again. “Nero… I’m going to hug you now, okay?”
Your son’s eyebrows rose, but he didn’t question your request, merely opening his arms, voice just the slightest bit hoarse as he replied, “Okay.”
Before you knew it, you had Nero in your arms, pure joy flowing through you as he hugged you back. “My son. My beautiful son.”
Did you hear that, Vergil? He wants me to be his mother. He’s our son.

Torn (part 3)
Title: Must you ask? (Torn | p.2)
Rating: T
Pairing: Vergil/Reader
Summary: The misfortunes of miscommunication.
-
The next day Morrison came up with a job offer. It was small, only requiring one devil hunter and Dante was the first to claim dibs. It was something that Vergil was fine with, he wasn’t feeling particularly fond of his brother right now. Besides, a small part of his mind admitted, it meant that Dante wasn’t cosying up to a certain someone.
As fate would have it, you chose that very moment to walk into Devil May Cry. Despite the normally calming book he had in hand, he couldn’t stop the spike of jealousy that flared within him when he saw you and remembered the way Dante was so close to you. “Dante isn’t here.”
“Uhm...I wasn’t looking for him, but...ok?” You responded, looking at him confused but accepting the unprompted information.
His jealousy was slightly mollified. He didn’t know what he would have done if you had inquired about his brother. Best not to think about it. He returned his attention back to Blake.
“Vergil, can I ask you a question?” You interrupted him. “What?”
“...Do you want to date?”
His heart skipped a beat, his eyes stopped moving along the page, and he had to remind himself to breathe. He nearly sighed in relief. He had been right after all. You weren’t interested in Dante. Of course not! You had walked in, without a care for Dante’s whereabouts and were asking him out. If this had happened a week earlier, he would have scoffed at your question and wouldn’t have answered. But the sting of regret when he thought Dante had won your affections was too close to his heart.
Before he could spiral further into his thoughts, he heard you sigh. Just when you were about to get up, he finally spit out his answer. “Yes.”
He watched your reaction from his peripherals, still pretending to be reading. Although you smiled at him and nodded, your eyes looked crestfallen, with a small sheen of unshed tears that you quickly pushed back. Why?
“Ok. What’s your type?”
Vergil’s eyebrow twitched. You were a confusing woman… “What?”
You nodded again and scratched your chin in thought. “Welll, Dante asked me to set you up with someone, but I gotta know what kind of woman you’re into for me to do that.”
His heart skipped a beat again and a flash of anger, frustration, and embarrassment sent a wave of heat through him. You...you weren’t asking him if he wanted to date you. You were asking him if he wanted to date in general. At the behest of Dante no less!
This was foolish! He stood up furiously, with every intention of leaving this asinine conversation behind.
*~*
You had been struggling with your own feelings about Vergil as you continued to ponder Dante’s request. It was only after Dante had left on a mission that you came to realize something. What if Vergil wasn’t even interested in pursuing a relationship? In fact, he had never hinted at anything of the sort before, so you may have just found your loophole!
All that was left to do, however, was confirm your suspicions. Which would be...difficult to say the least. As close as you thought you and Vergil had become, you never once spoke of your romantic interests and neither did he. This would be an awkward conversation indeed.
It didn’t help the nervousness that was growing in your gut when you walked into Devil May Cry and Vergil, nose in his omnipresent poetry book, snapped the oddest comment to you. “Dante isn’t here.”
You paused and stared at him, “Uhm...I wasn’t looking for him, but...ok?”
Vergil didn’t respond to you, just continued to sit there are read. It was already painfully awkward and you just arrived. With a resigned sigh you sat down on the couch across from Vergil’s desk. You frowned as you stared at him. Dante must have said something stupid to him (why else would he bring him up?) that made Vergil reconsider your friendship. Or maybe Dante was right. Vergil did need to get laid…
Well, time to bite the bullet. You cleared your throat rather loudly to catch Vegil’s attention. “Vergil, can I ask you a question?”
He didn’t look at you, but at least he answered you. “What?”
You hesitated for a moment, once you asked there was no going back. But the way Vergil had seemed to deem you not worthy of his presence anymore hurt too much. You’d win back his friendship even if it meant seeing him with someone else. “Do you want to date?”
If Vergil hadn’t noticeably stopped reading, though his eyes were still glued to his book, you might have thought that he didn’t hear you. The unanswered question lingered in the air for so long that you were just about to give up. You’d have to get back on his good side another way. Just as you were about to stand up, though, a single word broke through the silence.
“Yes.”
Ah. Perhaps he was just embarrassed to admit it. You forced yourself to smile and blinked back a few tears as you swallowed thickly. It was official now. You had no chance with Vergil.
“Ok. What’s your type?” You asked, determined to get him at least one date.
You saw the eyebrow twitch from across the room and had to look around to make sure there weren’t any summoned swords aiming for you. You’d seen that twitch before but usually that annoyance was Dante’s fault. He took his sweet time to answer again.
“...What?”
Oh. Poor man. How did he ever manage to father a son?
“Welll, Dante asked me to set you up with someone, but I gotta know what kind of woman you’re into for me to do that.”
He snapped his book shut and stood abruptly, his chair clattering loudly behind him, and made you jump up in surprise. “Wait, Verge!” You started, but he turned and glared at you.
Immediately you froze. He had never looked at you like that before and in that moment you hoped he remembered that you were not part devil like he and Dante. He must have seen the fear flash in your eyes, for he dropped his glare and turned back towards the stairs.
“Ugh, wait! Vergil!” You yelped, taking a few steps to catch up with him and braved snatching up some of the loose fabric of his jacket. “Just! Just tell me what’s wrong!”
Vergil turned and growled at you, but this time you held your ground. “Must you ask?”
You pursed your lips together but held your ground. “Ask you what?”
He took a step closer to you, your hand still gripping his arm, and stared into your eyes. It was such an oddly vulnerable action. With his free hand he reached out and touched your face, the touch of skin and leather gloves lighting the fire in your heart that you’d been desperately trying to keep contained.
“It’s you. It only ever was you.” He dropped his hand hopelessly, as if that brief skin contact was all that he’d ever feel.
If you could blush any harder you would have. As it were, not only was you face already on fire, the irritating sensation had spread to your ears and down your chest. The fires in your body must have overheated your brain, because you could not bring yourself to tell him. To tell him that you were practically in love with him. All you could do was mutter weakly. “Vergil, I...I didn’t…”
He sighed at your words and pulled his arm out of your hands, with every intention of putting space between the two of you. Space you would not have. You couldn’t think, but you could act. With all the speed of your devil hunter training your grabbed two clumsy fistfuls of his jacket and pulled him down closer to your level.
“Tell me you’re not fucking with me. Tell me you want me just as much as I want you.” You pleaded in a whisper, lips centimeters from his.
He didn’t answer. He too acted. Everything was a whir of desire. What little space that was left between you melted as his lips met yours, his hands gripping your hips as he pulled you as close to him as possible. His tongue sought yours, one of your hands gripped his hair, he pushed you into the desk.
And it ended all too soon.
Vergil was the first to pull away and you slowly opened your eyes, his gray eyes already staring at you.
“Not a word, Dante.” He said coldly.
You blinked. What? You blinked again and gasped quietly and leaned to the side to see around Vergil. Sure enough, there in the doorway was Dante with his hands raised as a pair of summoned swords hovered above him.
“Oh shit! I didn’t even notice him walk in!” You winced at your own inattentiveness. Some devil hunter you were!
“Yea, you were a little preoccupied.” Dante sniggered, only to quickly shut up and step back from the summoned swords. “Ok! Ok! I get it!”
Vergil sighed as you looked back at him, though any shred of annoyance in his eyes disappeared when you smiled at him. He leaned in again, eyes sliding shut, until he was met with stiff resistance from your hand on his chest. He looked up again, at you scrutinizing him and raised a brow in question.
“Soo, when I asked you if you were interested in dating and you got mad…?”
His jaw clenched and his eyebrows furrowed as he stood up. He straightened the lines of his jacket and glared at you, though it was a half hearted glare and nothing like the one from before.
He took a step back from the desk, “This was a mistake.”
You barked out your laughter and jumped off the desk. You quickly caught up with him and grabbed his hand again, not willing to let him go just yet. Not that he was actually serious.
“Where are you taking me?” He asked once he realized that you took his hand with the intention of leading him somewhere.
You looked back at him with a sly grin, leading him to the stairs. “Must you ask?”

Devil May Cry 5- V oneshot
Just part of a dream I had. A bit of a spoiler warning is needed.
Also my dream was hella wonky and I'm surprised I still remember it as it happened just over a week ago.
Nero, Dante and Vergil walked outside of the large spacious house into the vast back area. It was a beautiful plain with trees surrounding the edges.
Vergil twirled the metallic cane in his hand and sighed.
"What's with that Verge. You can walk perfectly fine." Nero elbowed Dante in the rib harshly as a warning. The older looked at him in irritation but before he could respond, a sudden light and small burst of air make them turn in the direction of the eldest twin. Though it wasn't him standing there. It was V.
"I want to summon..." he paused, leaning on the cane with a sad smile. "I want to see them again." Dante looked at him with pity. They where gone but he didn't tell him. Nero noticed and placed a hand on V's shoulder.
"If you're in pain then maybe you shouldn't." He nodded.
"I am aware. I still want to try." Nero understood and took a step back. V closed his eyes and focused his energy on bringing them back. Soon his tattoos disappeared but nothing happened. No familiar in sight.
He sighed once more and turned to go back inside, but the sound of wings and large steps stopped him in his tracks. He spun around and gasped in surprise. There they were, running towards him. He dashed to them, meeting half way before getting pounced on by Shadow.
"Yo Shakespeare! Did you really believe we'd leave you?" V laughed at the bird and just waved him off.
In that moment Nero and Dante have never seen someone so happy in their entire lives.
End
Ugh this dream made me uwu so hard when I woke up. I was so happy until I realized it wasn't real :') anyway I hope you liked this story thing.
