School of Computer Science, University of Nottingham Ningbo China, Ningbo, China
Abstract:
The advancement of digital twin (DT) systems had revolutionized various industrial and safety applications, offering virtual replicas of physical processes for improved monitoring and training. Fire scenarios are highly dynamic, with conditions changing rapidly due to factors like wind direction, material flammability, and structural integrity. This study explored the application of a smart fire scene DT system (SFSDTS) for firefighting training and safety management. The novelty and contributions of this study was the proposed SFSDTS integrated machine learning models to predict fire spreading paths and estimate escape routes in real-time, providing an immersive and interactive training environment for firefighters. Various ML models, including random forest (RF), XGBoost, decision tree (DR), logistic regression (LR), and Knearest neighbors (KNN), were utilized for predicting fire spreading. The performance of these models was evaluated using metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score, with XGBoost and RF models demonstrating superior performance. The proposed SFSDTS also employed the A* algorithm for optimized escape route estimation based on dynamic fire conditions. User experience was assessed through a standardized questionnaire, user experience questionnaire (UEQ), revealing positive ratings for the proposed SFSDTS’s efficiency, stimulation, and perspicuity. Compared to commercial products, the proposed SFSDTS offered improved accessibility and real-time simulation functionalities. The study highlighted the potential of proposed SFSDTS in transforming firefighting training and safety management.

Prototype | Research Frameworks
In addition to the various types of tests I can conduct, I also wanted to look into different frameworks for research that I could use for this project; both in pre and post testing, and in general. These are the ones that I found may be helpful.
SUPR-Q : Standardised UX Percentile Rank Questionnaire
SUS : System Usability Study
NPS : Net Promoter Score
UEQ : User Experience Questionnaire
ASQ : After-Scenario Questionnaire
GEQ : Game Experience Questionnaire
The SUPR-Q is a test designed to measure users’ perceptions around several components of a website including, usability, trust and credibility, appearance, and loyalty. This is comprised of a set of 8 Questions. There are two ways that the SUPR-Q is scored. The first is a raw score on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the highest, averaged across each of the four categories. The second is a percentile rank score that can tell you how your site compares to hundreds of other websites in the SUPR-Q database, calculated by getting the mean value of all of the raw scores.
While designed for websites, some aspects of the SUPR-Q can be translated to this project, as it is proven to capture various avenues of user experience quite effectively. Some aspects, such as trust in a website, may be a bit more difficult to capture, however.
Similar to SUPR-Q, the SUS is a framework to evaluate the usability of a website (most commonly used in usability testing). It is a Likert Scale which includes 10 questions which users are to answer. Participants will rank each question from 1 to 5 based on how much they agree with the statement they are reading. 5 means they agree completely, 1 means they disagree vehemently. As with the former, these questions can be tweaked to fit the context of a board game. However, it would be better to conduct this test towards the tail end of the project.
NPS is a common metric used in customer experience programs. An NPS score measures customer loyalty by looking at their likelihood of recommending a given business. This is used for other things, like products and websites as well. The metric is gauged with one simple question set between a scale of 1 - 10. Those who score 0 - 6 are detractors (unsatisfied), 7 - 8 are passives (satisfied but disloyal), and 9 - 10 are promoters (loyal). The score is calculated by subtracting the percentage of the promoters by the percentage of the detractors.
The UEQ is a fast and reliable questionnaire to measure the User Experience of interactive products. The scales of the questionnaire cover a comprehensive impression of user experience. Both classical usability aspects (efficiency, perspicuity, dependability) and user experience aspects (originality, stimulation) are measured. While not specifically designed for board games, it captures some core aspects of user experience that translate well.
An ASQ is a survey administered to users or customers after completing a specific task or scenario. It is used to gather insights and feedback about users' experience and identify areas for improvement. This can be used after tests in which specific scenarios are created (eg;- a full game played with Drought, in Sand, with only Bulbs), wherein players give their thoughts about their experience in that situation. The test mainly measures enjoyment, ease of use, and usefulness; all of which are relevant to this project.
Finally, a GEQ is a more comprehensive questionnaire specifically catered towards evaluating user experience in video games. It assesses game experience as scores on seven components: Immersion, Flow, Competence, Positive and Negative Affect, Tension, and Challenge. For a thorough metric, each component needs to be comprised of 5 items. Some aspects, like immersion in a video game vs a board game, may not translate perfectly but they can be tweaked to fit the context of the project, as with all the others and offers an insight into player experience across various metrics.
Armed with this knowledge, for the next few tests, I can try to incorporate these different frameworks to gather data that can be better used in improving the game.

Pilowfort doesn't require keys to get in - from what I ubderstand, the queue wait is like an hour-ish? But here's some keys to skip the queue if folks want to check out pillowfort. If these are all used, I have a lot more I can hand out.

Are the fandom communities a little quiet? Yeah, they can be. I've ended following WebDiscussions, Neocities, a variety of crochet communities and others. It's a place against posting generative AI (discussion is fine of course) and that means so much to me when so many places do not.
October 2024 Update
Heyo it's been a while! Hope folks here are doing well. I haven't been making a lot of stuff recently, but I've made some good progress with my site and finally got RSS feeds working!! (More on that below.) There's definitely visual improvements it needs but it should still be pretty decent to navigate around the site! It's more important that I get my art and details on there while uh... social media sites are still functioning.
(I did download an archive of this blog, just in case. Although maybe it's easier to use that instead of the website's archive. Ah well.)
I'm still posting primarily on pillowfort, then my site, and then bluesky. I'm not super into bsky but it fills the role I used for twitter for updates. And even though pifo's funding goals has been hit pretty consistently this year, the funds it has is currently another 3 months (Jan 2025). For each month it hits, the longer it can go on, and it at least has a buffer and is transparent about finances. This why I'm still focusing on my site, so I'll another place to store my work.
On to more details!
Website
I've got RSS Feeds! Got different feeds for All Updates, Art Only and Site Only. You can find links to them on the home page and the footer of each page, but RSS feed readers should be able to detect them anyways. Hoping to have Writing Only and Crochet Only one day when I a) have more than one batch of Writing and b) have a crochet section!
As above, there is a Writing section! Currently, 3 are from my crochet posts on pillowfort and one has only been posted on my site and pillowfort since it's OC focused (Null, Chisa and a bit of Father)
Artworks have a link to Related Series/AUs. They're like the Master Posts I have here for stuff like Composer Neku AU
New Artwork is added some time after being posted to pillowfort and old artwork is still being added in small chunks. Sometimes alternate versions are added that weren't posted on Tumblr. Looking back on older pieces make them not feel as incomplete as they did before
This has been around for a while but on each artwork page I have a "Posted On" section that will list any active social media site and a link to the actual post that I made with the artwork. So while the site doesn't have a guestbook (one day??) if it's posted on another social media site you're on, you can like/reblog/comment/whatever from those links! The cohost ones are there but I might remove them later since I think cohost should be in read only mode now...?
Other Stuff
I haven't been drawing as much but it's been mostly OC stuff. I have WIP for TWEWY stuff cause I feel a still little aimless at the moment for making art or I run out of energy and motivation to finish pieces more quickly than usual. Doing site work is definitely taking away from that, but that's just how it is!
Timelapses should be returning! A new computer means I can actually record timelapses from start to finish for a piece, instead of recording them in batches and stitching them together later. The first timelapse in a while is on Youtube featuring Null!
I think that's pretty much it. I did take a break from streaming on Twitch but I'm pretty much back to weekly streams. I did a test crochet stream last week and finished making a little jellyfish so I'll be doing more of those too. Since the last post, I've made a little gray cat and a Null jellyfish.
