i feel like it was either you or someone else you mentioned this but,, udo is a great cook. he learned from his mom because he used to just kind of hover in the kitchen while she made dinner to tell her about his day at school, and eventually started helping her out. he likes it - it’s calming to him and he gets to spend time with his favourite person, his mama :) . one day the gang decide to make instant ramen for lunch and udos like ‘step aside - my time has come’ and transforms the simple microwaveable bowl of noodles to a five star meal. best ramen they’ve ever had - hands down. they’re instantly like ‘?? how do you know how to do this??’ and udos all ‘what can i say? i learned from the best.’. now he’s the official chef of the group and his mama couldn’t be prouder :)
Yep it was me! Anon you’re about to bring me to tears 😭 honestly this is so close to me because me and my mom bond a lot over cooking so this was honestly so beautiful to read! Thank you anon :)

Potato Festival!
Evening Its Ishida Ayumi(о´∀`о)
I was watching TV earlier,
On “Secret Citzen SHOW”
The broadcast was about a potato festival!
When cooking potatoes,
Croquette, potato salad, fried potatoes, butter potato, at home we have good nikujaga, we’re all in agreement on miso nikujaga ❤
I really like slicing up sweet potatoes and frying them in coconut oil to eat ❤ lol
What does everyone like? ❤
On the program,
There was a nationwide ranking,
In first place was,
Yamagata’s “stewed potatoes”
Since it was number one in the nation,
It also made me happy that they were from Tohoku❤
Actually, stewed potatoes is a familiar household food❤
However, it’s a little different,
In Yamagata’s stewed potatoes, it has a soy sauce beef base, In Miyagi’s stewed potatoes, it has a miso pork base
…well anyway, both would be delicious lol
On the program, at the end of the stewed potatoes,
In addition to the curry roux, they put udon in it, they ate curry noodle stewed potatoes!
Both of them had been introduced,
But for those eating it, In particular at the Sendai concert, I’ll also get it from catering
In the afternoon stewed potatoes, in the evening curry udon!
So when I was looking at what was introduced, “That’s right that’s right~” Is how I proudly felt←
What was ranked 10th also in Tohoku,
Fukushima’s “Miso Kanpura”
Also from Tohoku, it was my first time seeing it…
I thought, I want to go to Fukushima~
Starting the day after tomorrow,
“Morning Musume ’18 20th Anniversary Concert Tour 2018 Spring ~We are MORNING MUSUME~”
Our Tohoku performance is in Miyagi on April 14th and 15th
Since we are of course going around the country, When it’s a local performance, I want to know “This famous here”
Please kindly teach me~
Goods information was released
Pure White
Certainly that day, my bangs were in front (lol) But now they are in a freshly cut condition (lol)
Definitely check it out!
Returning to the talk of Tohoku,
The same start of the tour, the 17th,
The other day, Udo Suzuki-san and announcer Hakamada Ayae-san went on a location shoot in Sendai
Tohoku Broadcast
“You also don’t know Sendai!? Not just thorough research of Sendai”
Was broadcast
It will broadcast around 14:00~ Don’t forget this!
(I know who gets it, what do I have?) (It’s really heavy)
Today,
In the morning I went to hot yoga,
I had a luxurious lunch of kinmendai and rice
Then heading to work,
After walking a lot,
I’ll have a day of energy tomorrow too
Also with the concert,
Make time in your everyday to have energy everyone
Thank you for cheering me on
See you ayumin

Enjoy life. Do what you love. Tomorrow may not come or the window of opportunity may shift. Planets align and our passions for a project spark. And the food, when of the earth and alive not heated, bludgeoned, processed, has the whisper of its spirit medicine. It knows you like the hot stones know your back and meet you where you’re at like medicine. The plants are aware of you and are offering their medicine too. Just for you. So wild radish flowers, zucchini noodle ends, dandelion greens, kale, carrot tops, pumpkin seeds, chickpea miso, organic tamari, Udo’s oil, kelp powder, Korean red chili flakes, fresh Thai chili, jalapeño, galangal, ginger, garlic, kaffir lime leaf, lime juice, coconut oil, olive oil, nutritional yeast, smoked paprika, honey. #beegan #rawvegansofig #organic #healinggreensoup #seacummins #livelifeonpurpose #naturelove #bestofportland2020 (at The Raw Princess) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCuvOW3hYV4/?igshid=1lq4vsrlf5hyx

The Eddy review – A haunting melody that quickly fades
A person could certainly look at Hollywood favourite Damien Chazelle taking to Netflix as something of a directorial time-out after the lukewarm reception for his last feature, 2018’s First Man. But precious little about The Eddy, the new miniseries he’s produced and partially directed for the platform, suggests that he’s compromising or taking a beat with a one-for-them after a one-for-me.
He’s doing all the things he enjoys doing: documenting blazing-hot musical performances with whip pans, guiding tracking shots in and out of jazz clubs, lingering on facial close-ups while people weigh their dreams with against the cost of realising them. Chazelle’s unmistakable fingerprint has not been smudged by his new streaming overlords.
But even if he’s got the same moves, even if he’s revisiting his pet themes, the noticeable absence of an ineffable cinematic quality sets this apart from the rest of his oeuvre. His ambitions come across as smaller and humbler in the two episodes he helmed, penned-in by budget or resources or perhaps a greater interest in his upcoming feature, Babylon. Creator-writer Jack Thorne has adopted his more well-known collaborator’s voice as the tone predominantly informing this series, and while he wears it well, it appears slightly off-brand after a few episodes.
Raw talent propels the show on a scene-by-scene basis, coming both from the cast and the lineup of virtuosos ripping through the many musical numbers. André Holland belongs to both groups as Elliot Udo, proprietor of the Paris club that lends the series its title and a regular onstage, where he blows a trumpet, clarinet, or just about any other instrument he lays hands on.
His little temple to jazz faces the expected challenges, namely that no one cares about that genre of music anymore and money’s accordingly gotten tighter than tight. To complicate matters further, his estranged teenage daughter Julie (Amandla Stenberg) turns up on his doorstep to challenge his work-life balance. She’s got aspirations all her own, as does the alluring jazz singer Maja (Joanna Kulig, a well-honed expert from her role in Pawel Pawlikowski’s Cold War).
Thorne’s influence comes across stronger in the later episodes, which settle comfortably into a register more legato than the always-on Chazelle can occupy. Favouring a downbeat smoothness in his musical passages, reinforced by visiting director Houda Benyamina (of the superb Romani-banlieue drama Divines), he succeeds in replicating the seductive soul-sickness of jazz and blues.
This mode proves an ideal fit for Holland and the exasperation he can project from his eyes or his body language, even as he’s forced to deal with narrative obstacles that do little more than prolong this miniseries to eight episodes.
By the time that a criminal scheme intersecting with Elliot’s fortunes starts to takes shape, the plot resembles padding in a show that excels at creating and inhabiting mood. It’s a potent high, to be wandering the serpentine nighttime streets of Gay Paree, letting the caress of a horn envelope you with its minor-key noodling, all of it captured with grainy filmstrip cinematography. (Which looks uncanny and perverse when streamed on a buffering wifi connection, though that’s an entirely separate issue.)
The moments of transcendence that elevate Chazelle’s work are present, but Thorne can only reproduce them sparingly, and he has no discernible authorial signature to fill the rest of the wide canvas available to him. To conclude with an obligatory musical metaphor, he’s got the chops all right, but he’s no soloist.
The Eddy is available on Netflix from 8 May.

Jeju Food Guide
This is post #2 of my 3-part Jeju guide series. I will take you through the best food options in four areas: Jeju City, Udo Island, Seogwipo and Jungmun. To read post #1 of this series (guide on places to visit in Jeju), click here.
Summary
Jeju City: Black Pork BBQ from Black Pork Street, Live Octopus and Abalone from Dongmun Traditional Market, Ginseng Chicken from Jungwon Restaurant
Udo Island: Seafood Noodle Soup, Jajangmyeon and Sweet & Sour Black Pork from Sanho Banjeom, Peanut Ice cream from various cafes on Udo Island
Seogwipo: Steamed Pork/ Beef Noodle Soup from Ollae Guksu, Matcha Desserts and Drinks from Osulloc Tea Museum Cafe, Street Food from Seogwipo Maeil Olleh Market, Freshly-picked Tangerines from a Tangerine Farm
Jungmun: Fried Chicken from BHC, Traditional Korean BBQ on Cheonjeyeon-ro, Banana Milk and Banana Flavoured Desserts from Yellow Cafe
General: Food from Convenience Stores like CU, Lotte Mart and GS25
What to eat in Jeju City
(1) Black Pork BBQ
Walk down the Black Pork Street and spontaneously choose a Black Pork BBQ restaurant from the rows of restaurants serving this delicacy. Black pork (known as the “Wagyu” of pork) is usually smoked over charcoal and grilled until the meat is tender. This allows the smoke to penetrate the meat juices resulting in a flavour unlike other BBQ pork. Black pork is also special because it is sliced thicker than other pork.
For mouth-watering clips of this dish and to see how the pork is supposed to be cooked, watch Strictly Dumpling’s YouTube review.
My subjective rating: 8/10
Cost: ~₩24000
(2) Live Octopus and Abalone at Dongmun Traditional Market
I really enjoyed eating live octopus (or san-nakji, 산낙지). The texture of the tentacles is slimy, which somehow goes very well with the sesame oil and salt dipping sauce that came with the dish.
The octopuses are killed just before they are cut and served. The nerve activity in their tentacles make the pieces move posthumously, even as you pick them up to eat. Octopuses have complex nervous systems: two-thirds of their neurons are localised in the nerve cords of their arms. This causes reflex actions to persist even when the octopuses receive no input from their brains.
There are, however, health hazards that come with eating this dish (for more information, read this article). Take special precaution to chew the tentacles slow and thoroughly before swallowing so that you do not choke.
My subjective rating: 10/10
Cost: ₩25000 for one plate of octopus and one plate of abalone.
(3) Ginseng Chicken from Jungwon Restaurant
Each serving comes with one whole chicken, stuffed with sticky rice and boiled in Ginseng soup. The soup is thick and has a sweet taste with a tinge of bitterness. The dish is very nourishing and is believed to boost your immune system, lower your blood sugar and cholesterol levels and reduce stress. Ginseng Chicken can be eaten by itself or dipped in sesame oil and salt.
My subjective rating: 8/10
Cost: ₩13000
Address: Singwang-ro, Jeju City, Jeju
What to eat on Udo Island
(1) Sanho Banjeom’s seafood noodle soup, jajangmyeon and black pork
Sanho Banjeom sits just across from Sanho Beach. The restaurant is known for its (i) spicy seafood noodle soup (”jjambbong”) (which contains fresh seafood and locally sourced edible brown alga), (ii) jajangmyeon and (iii) Jeju Black pork cooked in sweet and sour sauce.
My favourite dish was the the jjambbong - the soup was rich and had a hearty portion of fresh clams and prawns.
My subjective rating: 10/10
Cost: ₩21000 for one bowl of jjambbong and one bowl of jajangmyeon
Address: 252 Udohaean-gil, Udo-myeon, Jeju City
(2) Peanut Ice Cream
While cycling along the coast of Udo Island, snack on some peanut ice cream from various shops scattered throughout the Island. Keep a lookout for Jimmy’s (지미스), Dennis Cafe (대니스카페) and Udo Prince Story (우도왕자이야기). The peanuts used in this dessert are locally-grown and are sprinkled over soft-serve ice cream.
Although I liked the dessert, I was slightly disappointed that the ice cream overwhelmed the peanut toppings. The flavours in the ice cream were quite weak without the support of the peanut bits.
My subjective rating: 7/10
Cost: ₩4,000 – ₩5,000
What to eat in Seogwipo
(1) Steamed Pork/ Beef Noodles from Ollae Guksu
Steamed pork/ beef noodle soup is one of Jeju’s top delicacies. This dish is served with your meat of choice (tender and thinly sliced), clear broth and a generous serving of noodles. This dish can help you cleanse your palate and keep warm on a cold day.
However, the dish was slightly too bland for me. Having grown up with Singaporean food, I prefer bolder flavours (like those in Nasi Lemak, Chilli Crab or Durian). Nonetheless, this is just my personal preference. If you like foods with a healthier and cleaner finish, you should definitely drop by Ollae Guksu for their steamed noodles.
My subjective rating: 6/10
Cost: ₩8000 per bowl of beef noodles
Address: 24, Gwiarang-gil, Jeju, Jeju Island 63119, South Korea
(2) Matcha Desserts and Drinks at the Osulloc Tea Museum Cafe
(Read here)
(3) Street Food at Seogwipo Maeil Olleh Market
(Read here)
(4) Freshly-picked Tangerines
Visit a tangerine farm! (Read here)
What to eat in Jungmun
(1) BHC Fried Chicken
The BHC branch in Jungmun is a 5-minute walk from the Teddy Bear Museum and thus is a convenient stop for lunch after you have visited the museum. We ordered two baskets of chicken: (i) soy garlic chicken and (ii) fried chicken with cheddar cheese seasoning. The fried chicken was freshly prepared and served warm. This contributed to the chicken’s "crispy on the outside and soft on the inside” texture. The chicken wings and drumsticks were also doused generously with sauce and seasoning. The portions at BHC are quite large - 2 baskets of chicken were more than enough for the 4 of us. Overall, BHC fared significantly better than the other fried chicken chains we tried in Jeju (like Mom's Touch).
Of course, you cannot have fried chicken without beer (you can read more about this phenomenon at: https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/vvqjq4/behind-koreas-obsession-with-fried-chicken-and-beer). Make sure you remember to order some CASS beer to go with your chicken.
My subjective rating: *15/10 (best fried chicken I’ve ever tasted!)
Cost: ₩55000 for 2 baskets of fried chicken and 2 glasses of beer
Opening Hours: 11:00-00:00 (closed on Sundays)
(2) Korean BBQ on Cheonjeyeon-ro
The set-up of the restaurant was very unique. We had to take our shoes off before entering the dining area and traded dining tables for traditional Korean mats.
Ambience aside, the food was good, but did not stand out from the Korean BBQ at other restaurants.
My subjective rating: 8/10
Cost: approximately ₩14300
Note: Each bowl of rice came with a free Doenjang Jjigae (Soybean Paste Stew).
(3) Yellow Cafe (Banana Milk Cafe)
Here, you can find the signature Banana Milk-related products everywhere. The cafe serves beverages, ice cream and desserts with banana milk flavour. It also sells banana milk souvenirs. In addition, the cafe has many photo spots for you to snap pictures for your Instagram.
My subjective rating: 8/10 (additional points were given for the gimmicks!)
Opening Hours: 09:00-21:30
Address: 2877-13 Yerae-dong, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do, South Korea
In General...
(1) Food from convenience stores
Convenience stores to you should stop by include CU, Lotte Mart and GS25.
Look out for banana milk, soju, instant rice, packed gimbap and instant noodles. If you like spicy food, you can try the Fire Noodle Challenge (see: https://spoonuniversity.com/news/tried-fire-noodle-challenge-happened).
On a side note, Yakult makes for a very good Soju mixer.
