Books of 2022
Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi-- I’m not typically a graphic novel person, but this one was pretty good. It follows the story of a young girl growing up in Iran, and how living in a country going through wars and political movements affected her childhood and her family.
Animal Farm, George Orwell--For some reason, I never had to read this one in High School, so thought it was high time that I read it. I understand why its a book used in HS literature, it definitely makes you think--who’s way was right? Is there a right way? Not entirely pleasant to think about, especially with the way the world is today, but that’s the point.
Custer’s Fall: The Native American Side of the Story, David Humphreys Miller--This was a really interesting read. It was basically compiled from a bunch of oral histories from Native Americans who either lived through the Battle of Little Bighorn, or were closely related to someone who was, and thus could tell their story. It never really occurred to me before that, even though no White men survived the battle, we never really heard the Native American side of the story. We always see Custer portrayed as a hero, even though he was defeated at the battle. Would definitely recommend if you’re into American history.
May Day, F. Scott Fitzgerald--Didn’t care for this one as much of his other short stories. It portrayed a snippet of a series of intertwining lives, giving us a glimpse of essentially one weekend, one night, really, in the lives of these people, and how they treated each other and how this impacted each of their lives.
Interview with the Vampire, Anne Rice--one of the few examples where I actually liked the movie better than the book. Granted, this was one of the first books ever written by Anne Rice (I think), so her writing probably got better with time, and by the movie came out, many of the other books in the series had already been written, so there was much more material to draw off of. However, still a fairly enjoyable book and an easy read.
The Arabian Nights: The Voyages of Sindbad the Sailor and Other Stories, edited by Andrew Lang--Although I’d already read one version of the Arabian Nights, this one contained stories--such as those of Sindbad, that I hadn’t read before. This translation didn’t flow as nicely as the other one I had read, with the stories flowing into each other, but was still a fun read.
The Murder of King Tut, James Patterson & Martin Dugard--This was an alright read. It was fun and quick to get through, but overall seemed lacking in plot. I think the title makes it seem like it will be more of a mystery/thriller than it was.
Ubu Roi, Alfred Jarry--I got this book from a friend who said it was one of her favorite plays. Its basically a spoof on a lot of the “classic”/shakespearian dramas, and does follow those basic plotlines but in a much more vulgar way. It was an entertaining, if not strange, read. Reminded me a lot of some of the  plays I would write when I was younger.
The Drawing of the Three, Stephen King--Book 2 of the Gunslinger series, I didn’t care for this one as much as the first. Again, it’s a lot of setup for the rest of the series and introduction to more important characters, but I wasn’t as drawn to it as the first book. I’ll still continue to read the rest of the series, though.
London, Edward Rutherford--This is a LONG book, it took me several months to plug through. However, it was a very enjoyable read, detailing the history of London from prehistory to now. It follows a series of families, following their ancestors through time and just seeing how everyday people lived through all these historic times. A very interesting read.

Every argument against UBI is emotional: "it's not fair they get something from the government that I don't get." The facts of how well UBI works are undeniable.
Another ROI measurement: A single year of UBI payments is less than the cost to the city of dispatching emergency services, transporting someone to the ER, and ER services. When people get into a more stable living situation, they are actually healthier, and the cost to the taxpayer is lower. Current (non-UBI) spending on those eligible for UBI disappears into giant line items in a city's budget for emergency services, public hospital subsidies, and so on. UBI starts as additional spending, but if implemented widely enough would allow cities to shift their spending, and eventually actually have a smaller budget with healther and happier citizens.
A Seattle-area guaranteed basic income pilot gave low-income residents $500 a month to help reduce poverty. Employment in the group nearly doubled, and numerous unhoused residents secured housing. The Workforce Development Council of Seattle-King County launched a 10-month guaranteed basic income pilot program with 102 participants in fall 2022. New findings by research firm Applied Inference reveal that the $5,000 total payments improved participants' quality of life, housing, and employment outcomes.
Oh gosh look: another successful UBI pilot program.
Not only was employment doubled in the test group, their savings increased, and health & life insurance coverage tripled. Many participants got health insurance for the first time.
It's time to roll this out nationwide and with more money. The return on investment is undeniable and would be huge if it applied to everyone.

RECEP TAYEP ERDOGAN TURKISH PRESIDENT AT THE LEVEL OF A WORLD LEADER WITH DIAMOND STANDARDS
----------
MESSENGER OF THE PEOPLE: Journalists who observe the Indonesian government assess the statement of the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Roy Soemirat, the statement uttered by Roy Soemirat was only a blanket to cover the face of Indonesian Sovereignty which was etched faded and reflected on the face of Perabowo Subianto like Tapai Ubi which lacks yeast and is not cooked enough during its fermentation. According to Foreign Minister Roy Soemirat, the matter of people leaving the UN session related to the State is just a normal matter. Government observers assess that it seems like the State session is like someone talking at a Tuak stall who can just leave and leave as they please, or just leave with the excuse of wanting to urinate because they have drunk a lot of Tuak, that person is probably Roy Soemirat.
And on the one hand, there is an assessor, an Indonesian Government observer assessing about Recep Tayep Erdogan, President of Turkey left the room when President Perabowo Subianto was giving a speech at a level of three thousand. It could be because from the past until now the speech of the President of Indonesia, wherever he speaks, the contents of his speech only contain lies with a stem of trickery in the assessment of the Leaders of Countries in this World. The Leaders of Countries in the World assess the President of Indonesia so far.
In fact, the results of his performance, the President of the State of Indonesia borrows money, increases the State Debt, then the People who pay the State Debt, the People's lives are increasingly impoverished and miserable. Another way of thinking of the Leaders of Countries in this World, but only the President of the State of Indonesia thinks of being barbaric towards his People, that's why he was given the title of President of the State of Indonesia at the level of a Dog Dick. Because your intention to become President is only to become a thief, stealing State Money belonging to the People, you damned Humans, there is no other intention for your performance other than deceiving the People, many Facts that I can present if you ask me for the Facts earlier. - Editor By Rambun Pamenan (MKN)

UBI, banque centralisée, FMI / Banque mondiale, CBDC
1Corinthiens 15:51-53

FED UP with all of the Bo0mers saying this sh#t?
“If you’re vaccinated, you won’t die. You MIGHT get sick. But you won’t die!!” - says Bo0mer
Tell us more, o’ aged fountains of wisdom!
It must be really nice to have MEDICARE pay for your hospital visit when you get sick.
It must be really nice to have SOCIAL SECURITY pay you every single month reliably, like clockwork -- whether you get out of bed or not.
So go ahead, continue your SELF-CENTERED thinking.
Go on your VACATIONS.
Go EAT OUT.
Go SHOPPING.
Go FU#K YOURSELF.
MEANWHILE...
You know “that look” young service workers are giving you while you’re chowing down at Dennys?
While you’re pushing your cart in Walmart? While you’re at the Dollar Store?
THAT LOOK in the eyes those workers is the look of utter contempt.
Quite frankly, you are endangering our lives.
We waited behind you so you could get vaccinated first.
Medicare?
HA! We are not as lucky as you, Bo0mer.
Go shopping, eat out, have fun. Chances are you are spreading COVID. You can be fully vaccinated and still get OTHERS sick, you know?? (Or maybe you just don't care.)
Those "others" are US, you D*#kS!
Us. The under-insured, the non-insured.
And who the hell is going to pay for our hospital visit if we get sick??
"Thanks for caring about our lives, B0omers."
You've treated us like crap from the beginning, Bo0mers, and of think you have the right to make us sick, then we have the right to: pee in your soup, spit on your burger, give you the dirty cup we just used.
Fair is fair.

Hiii! I saw a post you reblogged about Universal Basic Income, and I was wondering if I could pick your brain about that. It's one of those things I really want to work, but also it idk. Does the science behind UBI so far convince you? The one decent argument to the contrary that I saw so far was that you get a better ROI by focusing on free services (healthcare, school, housing, etc) to lower the cost of living, instead of raising everyone's income -- this way the wealth is distributed better.
I HECKIN LOVE THIS QUESTION.
UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME IS A DELIRIOUSLY TEMPTING PROPOSITION. I PERSONALLY AM CONVINCED IT CAN WORK BECAUSE THE STUDIES THAT HAVE BEEN DONE ON IT IN SCANDINAVIA, CANADA, AND CERTAIN PARTS OF THE UNITED STATES. THESE STUDIES HAVE FOUND THAT WHILE COST OF LIVING HAS GONE UP A BIT AND INFLATION HAS CERTAINLY BEEN A FACTOR, THESE FACTORS HAVE NOT OUTWEIGHED THE BENEFITS.
PLUS, I ALSO REALLY, REEEEEALLY LIKE THE IDEA OF GOING “OK CONSERVATIVE FUCKWADS, YOU DON’T LIKE “THE NANNY STATE,” WELFARE, AND A SOCIAL SAFETY NET? FINE. EVERYONE GETS THE SAME AMOUNT. AND THAT’S IT.” THAT WAY PEOPLE WHO NEED HELP STILL GET IT, BUT NO ONE HAS THE CHANCE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT “WELFARE QUEENS” OR “MOOCHERS” BECAUSE THEY’RE LITERALLY GETTING THE SAME BENEFITS.
THAT SAID... YOU
‘RE RIGHT! WE FUCKING SHOULD BE INVESTING IN THE KIND OF SOCIALISM-LIGHT THAT FUNDS PUBLIC SCHOOLS, PUBLIC HOUSING, AND PUBLIC HEALTHCARE. I WOULD FUCKING LOVE TO LIVE IN THAT WORLD. BUT I ALMOST FEEL LIKE UBI IS MORE LIKELY TO HAPPEN WITHIN MY LIFETIME THAN UNBRIDLED SUPPORT OF WHAT ARE BASICALLY SOCIALIST INSTITUTIONS.
AS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED, I’M AT A BAR, BUT THOSE ARE MY INEBRIATED THOUGHTS ON THE MATTER!

Impact of Mobile Telematics in Personal Auto Value Chain
Author: SK Tirumala            Impact of Mobile Telematics in Personal Auto Value Chain
Tumblr media
Usage Based Insurance (UBI) continues to gain momentum in Personal Auto, with many leading insurers offering straightforward safe driving discounts, to more sophisticated pay-per-mile (PPM), pay-as-you-drive (PAYD) and pay-how-you-drive (PHYD) products. Good drivers with clean driving history are shifting to these lower premium policies, in exchange for providing data on their driving routines and habits. While many consumers continue to be against sharing their driving data for privacy reasons, the tipping point is not far for a massive shift from buying standard policies to trying UBI policies. One of the biggest enablers this conversion is availability of smartphone-based telematics solutions, which are cheaper and easier to deploy than traditional hardware devices. This article however is about helping understand the big-picture impact a mobile telematics solution can have when bundled with digital policyholder services.
Many insurers are still in pilot mode and tip-toeing their way in, due to a variety of reasons ranging from concerns on meaningful adoption, to lack of conclusive proof that loss ratios would improve, to complexity of developing discount models that convince regulators, or to lack of trust on the technology itself and accuracy of data delivered by it. If the concern was just around technology and data, then we can weaken that argument with proof that well over 36% of the top personal auto insurers that cover over 50% of the personal auto market in the US are already using smartphone telematics to offer 15%-30% discount on premium in exchange for access to driving data. That would not have happened if the smartphone approach was still experimental, and had not proven to be working.
As it would be expected of any strategic initiative, launching UBI products and/or offering safe driver incentives, would also demand a solid business case and supporting ROI analysis, for approvals and organizational prioritization. Unlike typical technology projects that can be expensive, time-consuming and resource intensive, smartphone telematics solutions are simple to plan, quick to implement, and can deliver significant ROI. The reason is that a bundled smartphone solution can simultaneously advance many strategies, and deliver tangible benefits to multiple departments across the insurance value chain.
Even if a standalone mobile telematics solution (i.e. without other policyholder services) is pursued, the ROI is proven to be quite significant; with risk appropriate pricing driving the topline growth, and conscious driving the driving improvement to the bottom line. However, if the solution was bundled with digital policy and claim services, then benefits and the ROI are compounded further, to increased awareness and adoption.
The picture below maps the features of a bundled mobile app across various links of the insurance value chain that can empower associated strategic objectives to improve risk selection, sales, and service. No alt text provided for this image
The diagram also conveys that the key to maximizing benefits from smartphone-based telematics is to think beyond just reducing claim costs. Instead insurers should look at the opportunities that a well-scoped solution could create to sell, interact, and service better using mobile digital services, and simultaneously reducing the exposures with driving data analytics. The trick to achieving this high IRR is to develop an app that appeals to the policyholder as extremely useful tool to possess. Aggressive marketing across agency, social and digital channels is needed to generate awareness of the rich features offered in the app, with a clear articulation of “what’s in it for them”. If mobile app features are engaging, valuable and easy to use, consumers will be drawn to downloading and using the solution.
The estimated internal rates of return (IRR) for some initiatives have been well over 100% (15% IRR being a typical threshold to approve projects). It may appear too good to be true, but it is not far-fetched at all, especially when all of the possible benefits are captured by the solution.
For those who wish to start this journey cautiously, a well-planned crawl-walk-run strategy is a sound approach. It means begin with a digital policy services mobile solution, but with an embedded telematics engine that can be selectively turned on to test and refine the strategy of using driving behavior data for reducing exposures.
Many small to mid-sized insurers that have not initiated their mobile strategy have not yet realized the opportunities being missed by not having a mobile app for their customers. Mobile-responsive web portals cannot simply provide the experience customers are looking for. Moreover, with UBI products gaining momentum, it is time for these auto insurers to plan and prepare for what seems like an imminent transformation of auto insurance market. With modest investments, significant monetary benefits could be realized across the value chain, not to mention, the priceless value of saving lives by reducing accidents and making the roads safer.

Dan disatu sisi muncul penilai Pengamat Pemerintah RI menilai tentang Recep Tayep Erdogan President Turki meninggalkan ruangan ketika President Perabowo Subianto berlevel seharga tiga seribu sedang Berpidato. - Editor By Rambun Pamenan (MKN)

The companies that will win in the creator economy will be those that build tools specific to every stage of a creators lifecycle from awareness to ownership. Creator x Company Pairing (awareness-ownership)
When building for the creator economy, you're building two products simultaneously. One is your product and the other is a community program that empowers your creators. Without creators, you don't have consistent distribution. This is why it's essential to be audience first or build in public (aka document building your product openly). A possible solution will be a product that lets early stage founders find creators who are willing to test and provide feedback on their products. This could be a marketplace or platform that allows founders and creators to connect with one another in exchange for being early community members, product testers and users. The Universal Feed (awareness - ownership)
Companies that will win the creator economy from the awareness to ownership phase of a creators lifecycle will be those platforms that can offer financial and discoverability solutions regardless of the platform. The company that's able to pull in content into a universal feed with the ability to engage with that content (likes, comments, shares, DMs etc) will become essential. The reason being is there will be a need to help creators engage with their fans plus manage multiple mediums as creators become full-stack creators begin to rollout omni-world activations.
Combined a universal feed with the ability too monetize, and the platform becomes an aggregator and gatekeeper of content. In short, it's a universal hub for aggregating content with realtime ways to monetize and engage will help service omni-channel creators as more creators diversify their social channels and mediums. UBI Creator Economy (awareness - ownership) The biggest challenges impacting creators are monetization and discoverability. However the current state of companies are focused on monetization in a way that benefits the top 1% of creators. Small-midsize creators are being phased due to lack of revenue and being discovered. Companies that can offer a universal basic income to creators will create, acquire, and retain more creators. The company that's able to create or implement an ROI positive income program for creators will separate themselves from the pack. The challenge comes with maintaining relationships with larger creators. By redistributing revenue, you're ultimately eating into the revenue opportunities for large creators. This could be the reason companies don't rollout these programs as 80% of a creator revenue is being generated by the top 20% of creators. The solution here is a company or fund that allows aligns the incentives of large and small-creators and offers payment who reach a criteria and maintain eligibility status. For example, a company could require creators to qualify for UBI by needing a minimum of 10,000 followers, posting 1x-2x a week in order to qualify. The criteria will change depending on the platform but there's a prime opportunity for a company to build a solution to manage this out of the box for platforms.
Omni Channel Analytics (Commerce - Ownership)
With the increase in tools, social channels, domains, and content, creators are going to need solutions to track these areas. Companies such as Stir and Juice are providing solutions for creators to manage the financial aspect across platforms. The challenge comes with the rise of Web 3 and users tracking ETH and other crypto payments/wallets.
Creators who branch into NFTs but also have traditional e-commerce revenue will need solutions to track and record crypto and fiat finances in one place.
Social platforms that analyze content and track social stats will grow in importance as there will be a need to identify and determine what channels to prioritize, new potential revenue channels, and underperforming channels.
The winners of the creator economy will be those improve monetization and discoverability for all creators and those that make it easier to optimize key parts of the business at affordable rates. The biggest challenge to the creator economy is the eroding of small-midsize creators to due to lack of revenue and resources.

Republicans talk bravely about recapturing the Senate in the 2022 mid-term elections, but things are not going their way. Senator Roy Blunt of Missouri is the 5th Republican Senator to say he will not seek election next year, while no Democrats are planning to retire.
More than 60 million Americans have received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine, accounting for more than 18% of our population, and leaving about 200 million US adults unvaccinated. We are now vaccinating more that 2 million people daily, at which rate it would take 100 days to complete vaccination of the entire US population. However - since the rate of vaccinating is steadily increasing, the daily new case rate continues to decline, tens of millions of unvaccinated Americans have already been asymptomatically infected and may not need to be vaccinated, and it is believed that we will achieve herd immunity if only about 80 % of our population is vaccinated - it seems reasonable to expect our lives to return to near normal by the end of April.

Biden announced that the changes in the Child Tax Credit in the American Rescue Plan, in which qualifying families will receive a $300 or $350 monthly check for each child, will cut the rate of child poverty rate by 50%. However, this is only for a year. Democrats hope to make it permanent at a later time but they would wise to instead provide a monthly Universal Basic Income (UBI), as Senator Warren had proposed, for every American adult, with, say $500 for each child.

PROJECT// PERSUASIONS- ARTISTS OF INSPIRATION: CONCEPTS
The following post is an exploration of a selection of artists listed as references on the brief. I have used inspiration from their concepts and occasionally visual inspiration in my own work for the starter project.
Jillian Tamaki
Tumblr media
Tamaki is an artist I am very much inspired by. I look up to her for her work in the graphic novel department after enjoying her artwork in ‘This One Summer’. This piece, recommended by the brief is titled 1831, and focuses on childhood play. This illustration is helpful to this project because it explores, representationally, elements of the hierarchy of needs and an understanding of needs in human child development. Some children are seen acting out more basic needs through play- splashing in the bathtub (sanitation), a milk bottle (food), playing ball and skipping rope (physical exercise). And some are displaying more developed needs- putting lipstick on, talking on the phone (esteem), playing guitar and drawing (self-actualisation through creativity). The illustration also explored how childhood has changed throughout the years, developing from playing ball to texting on a mobile phone.
I am inspired by Tamaki’s work in her style of representational art, and ability to infer symbolism without being outwardly obvious in a way that spoils the illustration into becoming only about the symbolism. Tamaki’s art has the same duality as some of the tarot card designs I looked at in a previous post.
Ubi Roi
Tumblr media
Ubu Roi is a French play by Alfred Jarry, first performed in 1896. It is considered a wild, bizarre and comic play, parodying parts of Shakespeare's Macbeth, King Lear and Hamlet. The writing and dialogue are intentionally obscene and childish, overturning social rules, norms and conventions. As a result it was deemed disrespectful and overly rude by most who first viewed it. However its childishness began to allow the expression of something deeper- an inner consciousness. It was seen to have opened the door to modernism as a precursor to the surrealism and Dada movements.
I have not seen the play, however from what I have seen from the above illustration and photographs I love the imagery. I am very interested in its cultural impact on artistic movements- especially surrealism and symbolism- where it touches relevance with my current project. Symbolism was a French artistic movement originating in 1857 at its very earliest.
Erwin Wurm
Tumblr media
Erwin Wurm creates abstract sculptures, often touching images of the human figure and buildings. I am interested in his work because of its perching on the precipice between representational and non-representational artwork. You can still recognise parts of the figure quite clearly as human, and yet others are strangely blank and square. I think this blend between abstraction of form and symbolism in the bland, soulless light pink colour and twisted portions of the figure is very powerful in delivering impressions of feelings to the viewer. I hope this is something I can do in my own 2D work.
Ernst Haeckel
Tumblr media
Ernst Haeckel was a biologist, naturalist and philosopher who discovered, described and named thousands of new species during the 1800s. As well as his extensive contributions to the human understanding of the natural world, he also was an amazing artist. He mapped and illustrated a genealogical tree relating to all life forms (above) and created plates for his books pertaining to the artistic beauty of nature (below).
Tumblr media
Haeckel directly inspired my work through his use of bright, but not unnatural, colour. His illustrations jump out of the page at you in all their wonderful representational detail and demand your attention, but do not do so in a way that distracts from their realism. Although I am not depicting direct realism on one side of my cards, I still want to create the same depth of colour in my work.
Seymour Chwast
Tumblr media
Seymour Chwast was an American Graphic Designer who was an expert in re-creating historical styles and movements in his work. I have recently become very interested in medieval styles of illustration, and so was immediately drawn to Cwast’s work, especially for ‘battle book’ (above). I will write more about his influence in my next post on my visual style inspirations.
