Good Omens Crowley and Aziraphale Reunited Playlist
In anticipation of Good Omens Season 3, here’s the “Crowley and Aziraphale Reunited and It Feels So Good Playlist.” We know our favorite demon and angel will be reunited. Take heart, have faith, and keep hope. Crowley and Aziraphale will be together again, like chocolate and peanut butter. This is music Maggie and Nina would put together in a playlist for a party celebrating the Crowley and Aziraphale’s relationship. The songs are about friendship and love.
How ever you as a fan define the love they share – eros, philia, or agape - we know Crowley and Aziraphale love each other. In the Good Omens universe, angels and demons are sexless and genderless. However, they can have genders and sex body parts if they want to. They can be sexual, asexual, binary, nonbinary, romantic, aromantic, hetero, homo, bi, pan. They can be any expression of the spectrum of identities and orientations. Above all else, they can love each other.
Maggie, Nina, Aziraphale, and Crowley are going to sing a karaoke version of “That’s What Friends Are For” at the party.
Please enjoy this unashamedly, unapologetically romantic, silly, sentimental, and sugary playlist (with extra cheesy goodness).
See note after list on song the selection process.
Songs include:
“You’re My Best Friend” – Queen
“Let’s Stay Together” – Al Green
“For Once in My Life” – Stevie Wonder
“Reunited” – Peaches and Herb
“Love and Happiness” – Al Green
“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” – Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell
“That’s What Friends Are For” – Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Gladys Knight, and Stevie Wonder
“I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)” – Aretha Franklin and George Michael
“Can’t Fight this Feeling” – REO Speedwagon
“Time After Time” – Cyndi Lauper
“I’ll Be There” – Mariah Carey and Trey Lorenz version
“I’ll Stand by You” – The Pretenders
“I Say a Little Prayer” – Aretha Franklin
“I Honestly Love You” – Olivia Newton John
“God Only Knows” – The Beach Boys
“Don’t Let Me Down” – The Beatles
“Just the Two of Us” – Grover Washington, Jr., ft. Bill Withers
“Just the Way You Are” – Billy Joel
“Your Song” – Elton John
“How Deep is Your Love” – The Bee Gees
“The Air that I Breathe” – K.D. Lang version
“Time in a Bottle” – Jim Croce
“Up Where We Belong” – Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes
“Islands in the Stream” – Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers
“Endless Love” – Diana Ross and Lionel Richie
“Almost Paradise” – Mike Reno and Ann Wilson
“Leather and Lace” – Stevie Nicks and Don Henley
“Feels Like Home” – Bonnie Raitt
“In Your Eyes” – Peter Gabriel
“I Want to Know What Love Is” – Foreigner
“Never Tear Us Apart” – INXS
“Eternal Flame” – The Bangles
“Heaven is a Place on Earth” – Belinda Carlisle
“Walking on Sunshine” – Katrina and The Waves
“Never Gonna Give You Up” – Rick Astley
“Everlasting Love” – U2 version
“[I Can’t Help] Falling in Love with You” – UB40 version
“Let’s Get It On” – Marvin Gaye
P.S.: Aziraphale secretly loves romantic duets and rock ballads. He wouldn’t admit it because his personality is classical music. However, he longs to sing karaoke duets with Crowley. “Reunited,” “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me),” “I’ll Be There,” “Don’t Let Me Down,” “Up Where We Belong,” “Islands in the Stream,” “Endless Love,” “Almost Paradise,” and “Leather and Lace.”
P.P.S.: “Never Gonna Give You Up.” Crowley unironically loves this song, but he invented “Rickrolling,” so Rick Astley would get paid more in song royalties. Who’s laughing now?
P.P.P.S.: “Let’s Get It On.” Crowley has experienced all the infinite varieties of human, demonic, angelic, and supernatural being sexuality and intimacy. Like various “sins” thought up by humans (without demonic influence), he has taken credit for inventing some of the more fun, creative intimate activities. He consulted on the artwork in the Kama Sutra. Crowley secretly wants to snuggle under the blankets with Aziraphale on cold rainy days, but he would never admit it because it would ruin his reputation.
Note on song selection:
Yes, the playlist is exclusively classic pop and rock songs. I’m a Gen Xer. David Tennant and Michael Sheen are Gen Xers. Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett are Boomers. This is the music I grew up listening to. These songs make me feel good. They don’t write songs like this anymore. I’m a cool college English teacher. My job is to corrupt the youth of the nation. Ms. Myers is going to expose you to culture. I’m a cool spinster aunt. Auntie Amy is gonna learn you about oldies music. I selected songs that thematically fit with the relationship between Aziraphale and Crowley. Listen to the lyrics. They fit. The list flows. You may not like my choices, so your mileage may vary. You can make your own playlist.
You can listen to it on YouTube.

NEW FEATURE: Now That's What I Call Rankings
I'm going to listen to every album in the UK Now That's What I Call Music compilation series and pick the best five tracks from each.
Now That's What I Call Music 1
28 November 1983
5 - That's All; Genesis
Love the rhythm, love the incredibly groovy keyboard, and Phil Collins nails the vocals.
4 - The Lovecats; The Cure
Wonderful bass, and I adore Robert Smith's catlike vocals.
3 - Moonlight Shadow; Mike Oldfield
Romantic and lush - big fan of the harmonies and pace. Hardly a moment for vocalist Maggie Reilly to catch a breath. Great guitar solo kicks it to the next level.
2 - Too Shy; Kajagoogoo
So perfectly of its time. Love the blend of the synth, guitars and drums. And I love the chorus to bits.
Honourable Mentions
These songs are also great:
You Can't Hurry Love; Phil Collins
Is There Something I Should Know?; Duran Duran
Red Red Wine; UB40
Karma Chameleon; Culture Club
The Safety Dance; Men Without Hats
Down Under; Men At Work
Baby Jane; Rod Stewart
Whenever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home); Paul Young
Candy Girl; New Edition
Tonight, I Celebrate My Love; Peabo Bryson & Robert Flack
Waterfront; Simple Minds
The Sun and the Rain; Madness
Victims; Culture Club
1 - Total Eclipse of the Heart; Bonnie Tyler
No other song stood a chance, really. Absolutely phenomenal song. The drama! The way it builds! Tyler's voice! And I have so much respect for the fact that it takes nearly two minutes before we get to hear the title of the song.

9 OTP Songs - Cariane Amell & Nathaniel Howe
Dream of the Archer (Heart) - HIS song, theme from the fic of the same name.
Wayfaring warrior soul, still wild The archer stands Arrow measured to the goal, sing of Strong and living man
Trouble Me (10,000 Maniacs) - early friendship/pre-relationship song, applies to both of them; theme from the fic Familiar Roads, Forgotten Roads.
(Trouble me) disturb me with all your cares and your worries (Trouble me) on the days when you feel spent Why let your shoulders bend Underneath this burden When my back is sturdy and strong? Trouble me
Dreams (The Cranberries) - theme from Silverite Moon.
I know I felt like this before But now I'm feeling it even more Because it came from you Then I open up and see The person falling here is me A different way to be
Crash Into Me (Dave Matthews Band) - HIS love theme, a mix of boyish wonder and sweet affection that is also incredibly horny.
Touch your lips just so I know In your eyes, love, it glows so I'm bare boned and crazy for you When you come crash Into me, baby And I come into you
Because the Night (orig. Patti Smith, cover 10,000 Maniacs) - HER love theme, also the theme from As the Sun Descends.
Come on now, try and understand The way I feel under your command Take my hand, as the sun descends They can't hurt you now Can't hurt you now Can't hurt you now Because the night belongs to lovers Because the night belongs to us
Head Over Feet (Alanis Morrissette) - their "friends to lovers" theme.
You've already won me over in spite of me Don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet Don't be surprised if I love you for all that you are I couldn't help it It's all your fault
(I Can't Help) Falling in Love With You (UB40 version) - yes, I prefer the reggae-fied cover...it gives me fun Rivaini wedding vibes.
Take my hand Take my whole life too 'Cause I can't help Fallin' in love with you
Hold You in My Arms (Ray LaMontagne) - theme for a future installment of their series, post-Awakening, when shit hits the fan and they really need to be there for each other.
Don't let your eyes refuse to see Don't let your ears refuse to hear Or you ain't never going to shake This sense of sadness I could hold you in my arms I could hold on forever
I Belong to You (Lenny Kravitz) - an overarching theme for what Carie and Nate are to each other.
You are the flame in my heart You light my way in the dark You are the ultimate star You pick me up from above Your unconditional love Takes me to paradise I belong to you And you You belong to me too You make my life complete You make me feel so sweet
BONUS: Fight Song (Rachel Platten) - not super tied to their relationship story but this is Carie's song, since I included Nate's.
I might only have one match But I can make an explosion And all those things I didn't say Wrecking balls inside my brain I will scream them loud tonight Can you hear my voice this time?

Albums of the new year
MGMT Oracular Spectacular (2007): There’s a review of Spring Breakers that I really like, where the reviewer points out that it’s a movie that makes more sense now, in hindsight, because instead of getting Harmony Korine’s hot takes on America’s youth, you get a dead-on time capsule of a very specific time & place--a zeitgest, over now, that at the time didn’t seem aware of its own mortality.
I was thinking a lot about that when listening to Oracular Spectacular; I was actually pretty shocked to see it’s as old as 2007, because the era I vividly remember it from was 2011-2013 aka my college years aka a time when the hits from this were ubiquitous instead of showing their age. It’s another one of those where exactly half the songs on here got way too much exposure, while the other half you’ve never heard in your fucking life. Most of the unknowns were actually pretty fun, with the exception of “Youth” which was so awful it single-handedly knocks the whole thing down a rung of my esteem. Fun trip down memory lane!
UB40 Signing Off (1980): I’m slowly triangulating my reggae taste, for the most part this was pretty good, didn’t stand out very much, but a couple of the songs (”Signing Off”, “Reefer Madness”) are long instrumental pieces that I thought were really cool and engaging
John Lee Hooker The Healer (1989): I’ve learned through this project and after seeing Kingfish Ingram live that I really like blues, and this is tremendous stuff
Talking Heads Talking Heads 77 (1977): This was an interesting one for me; I consider myself a huge Talking Heads fan, but also their big deal albums for me all come from their middle/later years, like Remain in Light onward. So even having grown up with their stuff around, I never really checked out their earliest offerings.
All of which is to say I’m having a tough time with this one, I think I don’t like it as much as what came later, but I still like it a lot, but I struggle to get into the headspace of what I might think if I were coming to this completely cold
Madonna Ray of Light (1998): Outstanding side A existing in tension with kind of a dull side B. I dunno, this one really excited me at the start, but I didn’t end it with the same enthusiasm
Giving it another listen, am I crazy, of am I hearing shades of Moon Safari in this?
Oasis Definitely Maybe (1994): Knowing them only from “Wonderwall”, this was pretty good. At its best made me think about underwater cities, which is a winner for me.
iirc there’s like a fan feud between them and Blur? going off this, I think I’m probably Team Blur
Coldplay Parachutes (2000): Dire stuff, I was correct to give them a miss back in the day
Julian Cope Peggy Suicide (1991): I have no idea about who this guy is or his deal in general, but this was really interesting. Album length kind of uncalled for, but on the other hand a normal length wouldn’t have been enough to get lost in, which was very fun with this
Screaming Trees Dust (1996): Grungy, forgettable
The Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream (1993): Kind of mixed for me, fundamentally compelling, vocals have a weird quality that I’m kind of on board with, but also often the thing got boring
Nancy Griffith The Last Of The True Believers (1986): Spotify reactivated autoplay without permission, and it took me a solid hour to notice the album was done with.
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band Safe As Milk (1967): Had to dig up a mono release because the stereo mixing was way too aggressive for headphones, but overall pretty fun weird folky mishmash thing
Soft Cell Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret (1981): “Tainted Love” is the thing they’re known for, but the actual highlight of this was “Sex Dwarf”. Otherwise forgettable Brit Synth Pop.
Pink Floyd The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn (1967): First time listening to a non-Dark Side Of The Moon or -greatest hits Pink Floyd album; since the last time either of them came up on the list, I head something about how Pink Floyd in general was kind of a predecessor to Radiohead; like even though the tone is different, both groups’ appeal lies in the sound mixing, and there’s audience overlap of people drawn to that.
Janelle Monáe The ArchAndroid (2010): This was fantastic! I feel like concept albums haven’t been in vogue for a good long while, so I really really appreciated how big she went with it here.
a-ha Hunting High And Low (1985): “Take On Me” is correctly the well-known song from them, but there were a few other gems in this
Pet Shop Boys Very (1993): Pet Shop Boys grates on me in general, and this one was done no favors by coming right on the heels of a-ha like that. I feel like by 1993 it was long past time to evolve past this kind of sound
Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti (1975): Album went a bit too long. The number of songs was correct, lots to get lost in, and they go a lot of different places, but the songs mostly overstayed their welcome.
c. 2012 I was using Pandora a lot, and for some reason it was absolutely obsessed with serving me up instrumental covers of “Kashmir”. Which I guess was fine, just confusing.
Johnny Cash At San Quentin (1969): Johnny Cash is great and I like how much this benefits from being a live album, really shows off how charismatic of a performer he was
Devo Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo (1978): Foundational album of a low-key influential band, but not one of my preferred releases from them
Echo And The Bunnymen Ocean Rain (1984): More of a stereotypical ‘80s sound compared to Crocodiles, by which I mean less along the lines of synth pop, and more grandiose, lots of orchestral stings, etc. A Bigger sound that I think benefits them
Muse Black Holes and Revelations (2006): I expected to have a bunch of thoughts on Muse and whether their stuff has aged very well since my high school days when I was super into them, maybe some ideas on the distinctly Nolan-movie-style bombast, evaluating whether I still like it etc. What I thought about instead is how I never really listened very much to this as a full album, usually I just skipped between the singles. The big fuckoff Cosmic Arena Rock pieces show their age, but actually still land alright, but in between them are a whole lot of bad filler pieces that really drag the whole thing down
Orbital Snivilisation (1994): The type of techno that Strong Bad was making fun of
Arcade Fire Neon Bible (2007): Band continues to be mids
Dolly Parton Coat Of Many Colors (1971): I’m a tough sell on most post-50s/60s country music, and I liked this quite a bit
Tom Waits Heartattack And Vine (1980): Think I liked Rain Dogs better, he was sleazier for that
Tortoise Millions Now living Will Never Die (1996): I got excited when I realized it was going to be all instrumental, but it never really rose above passing the time alright
Arrested Development 3 Years, 5 Months And 2 Days In The Life Of... (1992): This is the most dated-90s shit I’ve heard in my life

♫ Red Red Wine ♫
While I am not a huge fan of UB40, they have done at least one song that I really like … the one I’m playing here and now! Until tonight, I had no idea that this was originally recorded by Neil Diamond! Neil’s version only charted in the U.S. and only made it to #62 here, so the song might have died a rapid death had it not been for UB40. According to SongFacts … UB40 recorded this as a cover…

Does anyone know why UB40 is so into reggae?
Does anyone know why UB40 is so into reggae? As a Jamaican, I’m a fan. I just wonder what makes them love reggae, particularly old Jamaican artists so much. Have they talked about this in an interview? I googled it but I couldn’t find anything. 38?
38. talk about songs that remind you of certain people
oh this is a good one I have so many.
first one that comes to mind is this song that my aunt sings when shes doing stuff, she goes 'dooo be doo be doo'. I always thought it was 'strangers in the night' by sinatra, but i realised recently i could be Baloo's scatting from the Jungle Book: shes looked after a lot of kids throughout her life.
another good close friend always went 'hey, ho, here she goes' from robbie williams 'candy', but shes not that good with english and could never remember the rest of the song.
there was an unlikable sod called Connor who i found myself hanging out with a lot because of mutual friends, and would always tease me with that song, idk the title, but it goes 'my life is like a videogame', you know the one.
My sister played a lot of MCR when we were going through school (shes 2 years older than me, so, same school) and was woken up by 'teenagers' a lot, and drew up a hatred for the song 😬
i knew a boy called Ben in my peak drinking years who was very into the English party culture, and every party i went to with him, he played 'mr brightside' at some point. You hear it at every party over here, but he always kickstarted it. I do hope he's doing alright, he was a bit of a druggie, and didnt keep very good company imo.
im not in contact with him now, but every barbequeue or whatever, my dad would play his ub40 cd on his decades old stereo, and you could garuantee you'd hear 'red wine'.
My old mate Tom was the worlds biggest youngest fan of The Who, similarly another friend was into Blondie. 'baba o riley' and 'atomic' remind me of those two. She cheated on him though.
my music tastes really grew around my family because i never really liked what theyd play, and my mum would play a lot of arctic monkeys when I was young, and if I had to pick one, 'i bet you look good on the dancefloor' would take it. I heard that one a lot: it was the ringtone of her old sony Ericsson.
i love the subconscious associations we make with people people and music :)

Storia Di Musica #213 - Scala & Kolacny Brothers, Dream On, 2004
Go Where I Send Thee.

@quietmack it has been a week... and I’m so glad it’s Friday. I love wine.... and there is something about this UB40 that just makes me happy. I love it now just as much as when it first came out (although I was waaaaay under legal drinking age at the time 😉). Thank you for hosting! 💋💜
My mom was a beer drinker and a Neil Diamond fan so this song was a regular! @veraroaddixie I was not that much under the drinking age but remember this well. Thank you for this memory.
