Pokemon Sun Episode 85: UB 01 - Symbiont

Lusamine from Pokemon Sun and Moon/Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon would turn into a witch in Puella Magi Madoka Magica!

Cause of Witchification: The exact events leading up to her losing her marbles differs between the base and ultra versions of the games, but they do stem from one catastrophic incident; the disappearance of her husband, Mohn, as he was transported from an Ultra Wormhole to gods know where. Her patience and sanity were running thin as she continued on with her search for him - leaving behind both Lillie and Gladion, terrified for what is happening to their mother -, until the split between said universes occurred-

In the base game, she encounters and is subsequently infected by UB-01: Symbiont; causing her inhibitions to lower and desire to find her husband and care for vulnerable pokemon to devolve into a fanatical love for the ultra beasts- Nihilego most especially. Now seeing her children as extensions of that very twisted love, she began to manipulate and force them to imitate the very monstrosities that captured her eyes; causing the both of them to run away. That didn't matter, though; no children of hers were as "filthy" as they were. All that mattered was her precious beast...

In the ultra version, however, she had encountered signs of a larger, more terrifying threat; the beast that threatened to devour all of Alola's light, Necrozma. Realizing the threat at hand, she had placed all her resourced, attention, and efforts into collaborating with the Ultra Recon Squad and stopping that monster once and for all; even if it meant that lives would be threatened, especially that of Cosmog's.

Either way, she isn't exactly what we would call "sane"; in both versions of the games, her poisoned idea of love and broken desire to "protect" those beneath her have caused her to go even beyond what is considered "extreme", whether her adoration was directed towards the Ultra Beasts or has devolved into a sense of vigilantism, and what better way to see that than the pokemon she had kept frozen in her own lab? Even if she hadn't witched out, one could make the suggestion that she and Alina Gray would become the best of friends.

⟢ - Notes on UB-01 SYMBIONT 𝐍𝐈𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐆𝐎

Biology

UB-01 Symbiont, Nihilego, appear similar to jellyfish-like Pokémon. Their bodies are made from a flexible glass-like structure.

These creatures range in size anywhere from three feet long, all the way to forty feet in length from the top of the bell to the tip of the longest tendrils.

Texture wise, the bell is smooth, and the tendrils feel like glass fiber.

It is a parasitic entity; it protects and feeds itself by capturing living organisms in its tendrils and trapping them within its bell. Nihilego are often spotted floating through the depths of the Ultra Deep Sea with the captured prey still entangled in their glassy, translucent bodies.

A Nihilego’s neurotoxin is meant to relax its prey so that it does not fight its way out of its grasp; though Nihilego are deadly creatures, with tough exteriors, their interior is extremely soft and flimsy. Therefor, they developed the neurotoxin as a means of subduing prey and lessening the chance of their internal structure being damaged by flailing and escape attempts.

Nihilego are sexless creatures that reproduce through budding.

Their lifespans are currently unknown, but some accounts have claimed that they have witnessed massive Nihilego that had been alive for 100+ years.

Behavior

Nihilego travel in large groups, or “blooms”, with the largest blooms holding upwards of one thousand at a time.

They often rely on the currents of the Ultra Deep Sea to carry them, rather than exerting energy.

When floating in the air, Nihilego move and undulate just as they would if they were in water— very slowly, and meticulously, with tendrils dragging along, prepared to capture prey.

It appears that these beasts evolved not only to protect their interiors from prey, but to prey on humans and ultra humans specifically. They are able to manipulate their tendrils into different shapes, lengths and forms to create optical illusions. They are often observed mimicking the look and behavior of little children to appear defenseless.

Nihilego have also been observed mimicking Tentacruel, Jellicent, Octillery and even Dragalge.

Nihilego can camouflage themselves by tilting upside down onto their bells, and keeping their tendrils still, to look like Cursola.

Nihilego appear to be able to release its hosts at will, similar to regurgitation.

They make quiet, whispering noises that travel through the currents of the Ultra Deep Sea; there is no recorded translation of what this communication means. Those capable of reading the minds and hearts of Pokémon, or those who can simply communicate with Pokémon, would be met with otherworldly jibberish.

Nihilego heartbeats are also rather loud as well, so much that they echo through the air and ricochet off of solid surfaces if enough Nihilego gather in one space. (The heartbeat sound heard in the Ultra Deep Sea OST)

Additional notes on neurotoxin

The neurotoxin wears away at the nervous system gradually, first by numbing the pain sensors, and then eventually eroding at the brain itself.

Many symptoms of a Nihilego sting resemble Irukandji Syndrome, which is characterized by severe pain, muscle cramping, hypertension, and potentially life-threatening cardiac complications.

If not treated by a professional, Nihilego stings can become fatal within 48 hours.

Permanent nerve damage after being stung by Nihilego is common.

Longterm symptoms post-sting include body aches, neuropathy, joint buckling, paralysis, problems with positional awareness, brain fog, psychosis, and loss of vision.

Nomenclature

The beast’s name is derived from the Latin words nihil and ego, translating literally into “I am nothing.”

The code name “Symbiont” is misleading, as Nihilego’s parasitic nature does not contribute to a symbiotic relationship between it and any other species.

PKMDSky Body Swap - As much of it as i have, which isnt much at all and entirely unedited.

Nanu sighed as he stared at the child, who remained annoyingly still under the sheets of the hospital bed. Still out cold and only the persistent metronome of the heart monitor indicated that all was well. Or, as well as it could be given that there was a child unconscious in a hospital bed.

The kid was an enigma. He'd been receiving reports for months about them, the petty theft and the minor vandalism they had been causing. When he had asked around, no one claimed to know them. No name, no parents, or where they had come from. No one he had talked to could even remember having heard the kid speak. It was as if they had simply appeared, fully formed, and started causing trouble. Slightly Feral were the words someone had used, and they hadnt been exactly wrong. The Kid had been living in the woods, surviving primarily off of a small stash of berries, fruits, and a large amount of poke beans of all things, which had matched with the reports of the things that had been stolen. He had intended on bribing the kid with food to stop stealing, but then this happened.

It had been years since he had seen an Ultra Beast and he had not been prepared for the reminder of his old life when the kid had scrambled out of the bushes, mimicking a pokemon's cry and very clearly trying to lead UB-01 away from something. What, he didnt know, as the kid, triumphant in their success had charged the damn thing. It had been slightly awkward to watch, foolishly brave, stumbling and uncoordinated as if the kid wasnt entirely sure where their limbs ended. And whatever they had been trying to lead the Ultra Beast away from had been important enough to try to tackle what most reasonable people would consider a monster. And then, to his horror, the kid missed. Overshot really, and then tumbled over the roads edge and down the mountainside, assisted along by a single hit from the Beastie. It was that part that finally snapped him out of his shock induced stupor. He would not let another person die on his watch. Not again.

He still wasn't sure how exactly he did it, but the Symbiont was gone, his pokemon were fine and he had managed to get the kid to the hospital. And now it was a waiting game. The kid would be fine. He just had to keep telling himself that and wait. He hoped to hell they had believed him about the silica spines and the neurotoxin they normally contained. The kid would be fine, he repeated to himself again, tilting his head back to rest against the wall. They'd be just fine. Some unknowable amount of time later, the door to the room opened with a soft click and Nanu blearily opened an eye. "Hey Ace. Whatcha got there?"

"Uncle Nanu!" Acerola chirped, arms cradling something. "I found her!"

"Found who?"

"The girl who was screaming mad"

"Ace."

"Yeah?"

"What girl are you talking about?"

"The one who's been crying in my dreams! She needed help cause she got lost and separated from her partner!"

"Ah. You found her?"

"Mmhm"

"And got her back to her friend?"

"Im working on that part!"

Nanu opened both eyes to look at his adoptive niece. "Then where is she?" No answer was given, and instead Acerola held out the pokemon she had been cradling towards him, hands positioned securely under the little foxes front legs. Brown eyes peered up at him from beneath slightly matted golden orange fur and a fan like tail hung loosely

"Thats not a girl, thats a Vulpix." Acerola simply stared at him apparently not comprehending and Nanu continued. "A Kantonian Vulpix."

"Is that why shes orange?"

"Yeah. That would be why she's orange. But why did you bring her here?"

"I just told you! Cause she got lost! She was looking for her partner who separated from her to make the weird Frillish stop attacking them."

Nanu blinked. He could have sworn he misheard that. "Ace, is the lost girl a vulpix?"

"Uh huh! and you found her partner!

It was awful and we all had to deal with it's toxin in one way or another.

We were lucky that me and Maxie's entire team composes of pokemon with ground type moves and neither of us got captured.

The coffee machine once was broken purposely by Colress as a 'social experiment'. He isn't allowed in the break room alone anymore to say the least.

getting this paper done for lusamine has been a really good experience! researching about the different ultra beasts is very rewarding :) right now, i'm focused on UB-01 Symbiont, or professor burnet has called it - nihilego! they emulate the appearance and look of a jellyfish, yet seem to be made of a glassy, almost hard substance.

i've been asking to take it outside of the control environment in the aether paradise to see how it could function in a real world situation, but lusamine has yet to approve that.
