The Laconia (displacement - 19,695 brt) was torpedoed by two torpedoes from U-156 at 22:07 local time on 12 Sep 1942 at the point with coordinates 05.05S, 11.38W (about 360 miles northeast of Ascension Island in the South Atlantic), having on board 2,741 people: a crew of 136 people, 80 civilians, 268 passengers and about 1,800 Italian prisoners, accompanied by 160 Polish soldiers. Lakonia sank after 1 hour 16 minutes at 23:23. Killed were 97 crew sailors, 133 passengers, 1,394 Italian prisoners and 33 Polish soldiers, the remaining 1,084 people (including 415 Italian prisoners) were in the water.

The commander of U-156, Korvettenkapitän Werner Hartenstein, after agreement with the headquarters (the original text of the radiogram is Versenkt von Hartenstein Brite "Laconia". On 13 September at 06:00 a.m., the U-156 broadcasted a clear message that it would not attack any rescue ship if it was not itself attacked. (Original text – If any ship will assist the ship-wrecked ‘Laconia’-crew, I will not attack providing I am not being attacked by ship or air forces. I picked up 193 men. 4, 53 South, 11, 26 West – German submarine).

On the morning of 15 September, German submarines U-506 and U-507 and the Italian Capellini arrived to help U-156. On 16 September at 11:25 am, a cluster of German submarines and people in the water was discovered by an American Consolidated B-24 Liberator bomber from the air base on Ascension Island, the pilot of which, Lieutenant James D. Harden, after receiving an order from the base at 12:32, made an attack. All three submarines hastily plunged below the water level, leaving hundreds of people in the water. Between 17 and 20 September 1942, the remaining approximately 900 people were taken aboard by three ships from Vichy France and landed at various African ports. A small part of the Italian prisoners remained aboard these three German submarines.

This incident was the basis for the issuance on 17 September 1942 of the order Triton Zero (Laconia-Befehl/Order Laconia) to all Kriegsmarine submarine commanders, forbidding any attempts to rescue the crews of sunken ships, that is, to catch the drowning, transfer them to lifeboats, return inverted boats to normal position, provide food and water to victims.

Summary: The team has doubled down on Lando’s championship fight, so when Lando reaches Y/n, team orders are put in place but Y/n doesn’t let him go without a little fun.

AND ITS LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO

Y/n started on pole. She sped past max and kept the lead with Lando close behind in P5 after a bad quali.

“Perfect start y/n, now just keep the lead and this could be a good result for the team”, her race engineer said over the radio.

She knew she would probably have to give the position to Lando soon as operation “LN4THEWIN” was fully in swing at McLaren.

By lap 34 she was still in the lead. Lando however had gained many positions and was trailing close behind in P2 now.

“Lando is behind you y/n”, her race engineer reminded her of her teammate’s position.

“Has he asked for team orders yet”, she asked him jokingly.

“Erm… no I don’t believe so— no he hasn’t.. why?”

“Well, wouldn’t whiny little Lando want to pass me without a fight? That cute little baby would never hurt me”, she giggled into her radio.

“Will, what’s my gap to Y/n?” Lando asked his engineer.

“Erm, Lando you’re at 1.3 sec of Y/n you can attack at this pace in the next 2 laps.

“She also asked if you had requested team orders yet”, Will told Lando with mild confusion in his tone.

After hearing this, Lando chuckled and tried to increase his speed on his old tires. But, Y/n kept pressing.

“Tell her I don’t need Team orders to overtake her,” Lando told Will.

Two laps later and he was still behind Y/n

“Y/n were going to need to swap positions. Lando is clocking in better speeds right now and it’s for the good of the team.”

She wanted to scream and drive that eyesore orange car into a ditch. She wasn’t a quitter; she didn’t want this season to go like this, but it had to be done, unfortunately.

“Lemme guess, Lando put in a special request?”, she asked, mildly annoyed.

Hot take or whatever but I don't think we should trust a guy who gets really distracted by squirrels and balls and a kitten who could easily get hurt to protect our city. Jest nawet dobrze. Jedyne na co się skusiłam u babci to grzyby marynowane (uwielbiam je) bo mają mało kcal i nie podjadłam nic więcej. respectfully my heart is genuinely hurting because this reminded me of how yeo slept until quite late on a number of occasions... so imagine this is because he would call late into the night :(( to talk about nothing and everything... your voice being his clarity and his soothing, healing balm. a salvation in the midst of busy schedules and a chaotic day-to-day. you are the calm in the middle of the storm, a safe place.

he knows that he is supposed to go live today. he knows that, at the end of the day, this is also his job, and he has to do it regardless of how he is feeling. but as the time ticks on and he feels nowhere closer to home, his mind is almost always elsewhere, and it has gotten to the point where he drifts off in conversation, is entirely absent while sat in the styling chair, and even the astonishingly bright skies appear dull.

thankfully, it does not take much convincing to get himself a late night free. misty-eyed and yearning for his home, yeosang simply has to smile and whisper "i'm tired," to voice the million thoughts spinning around in his head, and have a couple of his fellow members to take over, and an all-group live can be postponed until tomorrow. he feels like he has grown wings. soaring to his hotel room, he speeds through his routines and flops onto the bed to grab at his phone that has been charging on the nightstand.

as soon as he unlocks his phone, yeosang is met with a picture of you - a new one you must have sent a couple of hours ago while he was being interviewed. it was your suggestion to download the little widget that allows you both to send each other messages and photos that complete the homescreen with another piece of home. it was a suggestion that yeosang thanks the universe for.

one message. your response. another. your sweet words. a blissful grin settles on his beautiful features. his hand moves instinctively to the call button, and soon enough, there you are, home. who knew 'hello' could be so magical, and pixels on a screen so dear and so infinitely reassuring and full of love? yeosang waves to you, a little shy due to his sheer delight that he can finally spend some time with you, even though you are miles apart.

you sing praises, applaud him for his phenomenal achievements, cheerfully go over all the kindness you have seen and how much pride you feel, while yeosang melts into the pillows thinking that now, all of this is worth it. with you. he asks about what you have been up to, humming, nodding away as you transition from one topic to the next. when you least expect it, he asks one question, another, or amuses you with hilarious associations, be it to a trend or a song, or an inside joke.

he is happy with where he is, with what he has overcome and where he got you, but he is all the more happy that he can share this with you, and that no matter what, his heart is always home, in your loving arms. he imagines your embrace as he drifts off to you humming one of his favourite ballads. at least for a little bit, the time until he would be a metre, instead of a call, away from you, feels much shorter than before.

The evening finally arrived in Australia, the Porsche team gathered at a nearby steakhouse to celebrate their first double podium finish. The energy was high, and everyone was in good spirits. Y/N found herself at the center of attention, her driving performance praised by everyone.

But as the night wore on, she noticed Jungwoo sitting at the corner of the room, a quiet observer. Despite his role as the head of the team, he never liked being the center of unwanted attention. He grew to be a young man of few words, but his presence alone was commanding despite his boyish charm.

Eventually, the night wound down, and the team started to leave. Exchanging their regards and heading back to their respective hotel stays. Y/N found herself lingering around the restaurant balcony, unsure if it was the adrenaline from the race or something else that kept her there. Something within her didn't want to bed goodnight.

As she stepped outside, the cool night air hitting her skin, she heard a voice behind her. "Heading out?"

She turned to see Jungwoo, his hands in his pockets, watching her with that familiar calm expression. A smirk softly forming on his face as he looked at her fondly. Not sure if it was his smile lines or the fact that he's her boss that made her nervous. The wine from dinner made it harder to tell this time. "Yeah, just needed some fresh air," she replied, leaning against the balcony railing. Their exhanges were always polite. Just polite.

He moved closer, standing beside her, and for a moment, they just stood there in silence, the distant sounds of the city surrounding them.

"You did really well today," Jungwoo said after a beat, his voice low and steady. Eyes looking down due their height difference.

"And you already said that," Y/N teased, glancing up at him with a small smile.

"And I meant it." His tone was serious, and when she looked at him, she could see the intensity in his eyes again—the same look he’d had after Bahrain, after every race, really. There was something there, something unspoken, but heavy in the air between them.

"Thanks," she said softly, her pulse quickening under his gaze.

For a moment, neither of them spoke. The tension hung thick between them, and Y/N could feel her heart racing, unsure of what would happen next. Jungwoo was always composed, always in control, but tonight, there was a different energy about him—an edge that she hadn’t seen before.

"You should get some rest," he finally said, his voice quieter now. "We’ve got a long season ahead."

Y/N nodded, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that this wasn’t just about racing anymore. There was something more between them, something unspoken but undeniable.

"See you tomorrow," she said, turning to walk away.

But as she took a few steps, she heard his voice again, soft but unmistakable.

"Y/N."

She turned back, her heart pounding in her chest.

Jungwoo didn’t say anything for a moment, just looked at her with that same intense gaze. Then, with a small, almost imperceptible smile, he nodded.

"Goodnight."

And just like that, he disappeared into the night, leaving Y/N standing there, her mind racing with thoughts she hadn’t allowed herself to entertain until now.
