maybe you were the biggest hypocrite alive. for months you've verbalized your severe disliking for jake ― a mutual "friend" of yours through carrington. heavy on the quotes.....you wouldn't exactly call him a friend. he made your blood boil sometimes and you weren't quiet about it. but to be fair, neither was he. you were certain he hated you just as much as you hated him. his little glares, scoffs, and insults were fucking constant. god, the amount of times you've threatened to run him over with his own tesla.....too may to count. he had this innate ability of knowing just how to get under your skin and it makes you to strangle him ― which you probably could, if only you could reach him. he was stupidly tall and you hated it. you hated his stupid long, muscular arms littered with dumb tattoos. his stupid black hair and how it looked all wet at the last pool party he threw. how easily he picked you up and tossed you into the water at said party, as if you weighed nothing. you were so mad when he did that, but he just laughed and pointed like a dumbass. what you hated the most, though, was how many little things you "hated" and how they seem to never leave your brain. you'd never tell anyone, but you've had dreams about him. they're never too long or detailed, but lewd nature of them is enough for you to wake up in a cold sweat, shaky and confused.

unfortunately, with sharing the same friend group and being around him constantly, you haven't really had time to figure this whole ordeal out. you'd planned to sweep it under the rug, continuing to hate him and the match the energy he gave you, but it seems as though carrington and johnnie have other plans for you two.

"i told you guys, i can go get the food. i don't mind." you practically beg them as carrington grabs his keys and johnnie slips his boots on.

carrington shakes his head, placing his hands on your shoulders and gently pushing you back to your seat on the couch next to jake. "no, no, no. nice try, you're not getting out of this." he cracks a satisfied grin at how closely you sit next to jake. "see! that wasn't hard, huh? you two don't always have to be trying to kill each other, you can get along and be happy! that's all we want!" carrington beams ecstatically, nudging johnnie to chime in.

johnnie jolts back from the force of carrington's nudge, "ow-but yeah he's right. and also i just want this whole bullshit to be over. it's honestly really annoying to have to break up your arguments all the time. and i don't like confrontation, it stresses me out."

"well, there wouldn't be any argument's if y/n wasn't always trying to pick a fight with me." jake quips, reaching forward for a redbull from the center table.

you immediately frown at his words, "i'm the one that picks fights? oh, that's fucking rich. you're the one always making me the butt of every joke and attacking every little thing that i do."

carrington steps in, interrupting jake before he can get a word out, "well, okay! we're gonna leave you guys to it. this is good a start, sort letting it all out ― i like it. we'll be back with the food and drinks in an hour or so, which means you have plenty of time to squash whatever this is, yeah?" he slowly steps back towards the front door, speaking calmly, as if the wrong tone will set you two off completely.

johnnie nods along, following carrington, "just please don't actually kill each other."

jake laughs a little at how genuinely scared johnnie is, "johnnie, we're not gonna kill each other, calm down. we're just gonna talk, like carrington said."

"yay, i can't wait." you deadpan, sarcastically.

"that's the spirit! i believe in you!" carrington cheers, swinging the door open and leaving alongside johnnie.

the minute the door shuts, the room falls dead silent. the air is thick and, for some reason, your heart starts to beat quicker. jake clears his throat and adjusts his position on the couch, facing you more now.

"if this is about throwing you into the pool, then-"

"yeah, that was a dick move..." you say flatly, avoiding his eyes and keeping them on what little space there was between you two. "i'm gonna have water in my ears till christmas...."

jake stifles a laugh, trying to keep his face neutral, "you were being a buzzkill, i had to lighten up the mood! the whole party you were hiding around and being weird. i thought maybe you just needed to loosen up." he shrugs, taking a swig of his drink.

"loosen up?" you squint your eyes at him, unhappy with his choice of wording.

"yeah, you heard him. sometimes....most of the time," he corrects himself, "you kind of have a stick up your ass."

your frown grows deeper and you scoff at him, "wow."

The topic of Palworld is pretty charged, but often times I see people be shamed for liking it because the CEO tweeted stuff about NFTs and the company using AI art in a separate game. Acting as if that's the most damning thing ever for a gaming company in an industry filled with similar people.

Make no mistake, I dislike both AI art and nfts, but do you realize how many gaming companies have involvement with that?

To begin with, Pokémon used AI art in a promotional piece for Pokémon Go in September, and nobody gave a shit because uwu Pikachu. The Pokémon Company also put a job listing some months back seeking an expert in NFTs. That's not quite damning evidence, but if I were a betting man, no "NFT expert" will willingly say "yeah nfts suck are bad for the environment, man, I'll take my paycheck and fuck off now." There's also a strong argument to be made that Pokémon has stolen ideas from fakemon artists (Finizen and Palafin, Scovillain, Dipplin, etc) and other franchises (kaiju movies, Dragon Quest, Megaman, final fantasy, western cartoons and food mascots, etc), a dubious legal statement that claims they own all fan art from the remixes and fakemon made on youtube to the pikachu your kid drew at breakfast; they have yet to apologize for the state of Scarlet and Violet while charging full price to millions of paying customers for a clearly unfinished and barely functioning game (which i did enjoy, but you can't tell me it was finished baking when it struggles not to shit itself just to run), and a bunch of other things people shit on Palworld for, but A. It's Pokémon so people don't care and think it's fine, and B. That's not the point of this post.

You know who else does NFTs and AI art? (Yes I heard Muscle Man from Regular Show in my head just now, too, moving along)

Square Enix sold several of their IPs for NFTs and claims to have used AI art "a minimum amount" in Foam Stars, yet I see nobody yelling for boycotts of Final Fantasy 14, 16, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, Life is Strange, etc etc etc.

Sony has invested in both, they want to implement AI into gaming, and has a patent for nfts to be used in games and consoles, yet there's no movement to throw out your playstations.

Bandai Namco- you know, that company with a hand in pretty much most anime games on the market and popular games such as the Dark Souls games? They have a game called RYU that's essentially a virtual pet game that uses the blockchain, and its AI driven, among other projects. Yet there's no outcry to stop playing the many, MANY games they brand with. This also includes quite a few Nintendo games (btw they just partnered together to form a special studio quite recently) like Smash Wii U/3ds and New Pokémon Snap. Nobody gives a shit though.

Android, Microsoft, Google, Apple- I don't even need to explain those, they have whole teams dedicated to both. Even popular VPN companies accept crypto.

I'm just saying an awful lot of you guys that scream and shit bloody murder about Palworld's company being involved with that shit are either the biggest "It's okay when my favs do it" type of hypocrites, or you're sorely ignorant to just how evil and greedy most corporations are. You'll be hard pressed to find a game company with popular AND fun games that DOESN'T have some interest in either, let alone movie and show studios. That's the awful reality we live in.

You have 2 options

1. You basically stop doing anything involving most modern tech, including throwing out your pc and smart phone. You could probably live a comfortable life with tech circa 2010, but you have to be aware that any thing you buy may go towards a cause you don't like.

2. You accept that people can enjoy a product while not necessarily agreeing with the CEO of said product. Most CEOs tend to be jackasses anyway, that's kind of the shared trait they all have. You can also discourage companies from using them while understanding it is everywhere.

Palworld at the end of the day is just a toy, that's it. From the looks of it, it's not even actually hurting anyone, and it seems like the company at least treats their employees pretty decently- at least according to a few things I've seen here and there that seems rather progressive for a Japanese studio (with room for doubt obviously, it's a company after all and as we've established, they're all evil). At the least its not like when people supported Hogwarts Legacy and directly put money into JKR's wallet so she can openly hurt more Trans women. In fact, the only people seemingly hurt in all of this Palworld drama are obsessed Pokémon stans that can't accept a parody, or the Pokémon Company themselves, who rightly deserve some punching up tbh.

You can just say you dislike the game, that's fine, I totally get that. Even though I personally think The Pokémon Company deserves a few nut shots after the way they've treated fans these last few years with the state of their games (and you know, stealing ideas from fans without credit), I can see why someone would be turned away from a parody that's literally meant to be Pokémon with guns. I can totally understand all of that, personally I'd prefer if the game was MORE like Pokémon with turn based combat.

But if you're going to defend Pokémon because you think its perfectly innocent because of Wooloo or something like that, just be sure you're aware you're defending the World's Richest Franchise and their own attempts at AI and NFTs while calling out an indie company (a real one thats learning as they go, not the fake "We're totally indie" franchise that hasn't been indie since gen 3) for having a ceo that also seems interested in the same stuff. Just saying. I don't think you're an irredeemable person for still liking Pikachu, cuz I do too believe it or not. I've been a life long fan and still have fun with the games despite the clear scummy business practices towards their paying customers. Just maybe extend that courtesy to the millions of players just trying to have fun in this awful, putrid, shithole planet that just keeps getting worse and worse with each passing day.

Plus... you know, think about it. Do you think Pokémon would ever get around to making a gunless Palworld? Probably not. Do you think Palworld would exist if The Pokémon Company and Nintendo were the slightest bit chill about Pokémon fan projects like SEGA is with Sonic? Also probably not. From what I've read, the devs just wanted to make a fun game that happens to mostly be ARK with Pokémon adjacent monsters. That's not really a bad thing, all things considered, and it seems like the worst they've done is reference official Pokémon when making their own models.

Palworld being successful is actually beneficial to Pokémon fans, as well. It'll never really truly compete, but it has outsold Legends Arceus in terms of units sold (not as much financially because Palworld was only $30 plus a sale recently, but still impressive), and it is enough that Game Freak is aware of its existence. Let Palworld light a fire under their ass, and maybe GF will actually finish their next game before releasing it for full price (and no, we're not bringing up the tired imaginary ball and chain game devs, game freak owns 1/3rd lf the franchise and can easily take methods to get more dev time, they just haven't because money). Just saying, at least the Paldevs were honest enough to sell it in early access for half the price.

So for the @year-of-the-echidna 'communication' prompt i'm putting forward a snippet from an upcoming chapter of friendship persists

But some context is required first. This fic was started back when frontiers was getting its first trailers and many of us were theorizing that it was gonna be an amnesia plot. So other than the basic pieces of 'there are weird ancient robot things, there used to be a civilisation here, cyber space is a thing and the general look of the first island' (maybr the others will stay the same, but that'll depend on the flow of the story) most of frontiers has nothing to do with this story, the pieces are completely remixed. (Sage doesn't even have anything to do with eggman in this version, the titans have a very different origin planned, (which is low key a self indulgent excuse to make expys of the botw champions.) i wont say yet cuz its become a major plot point, but the titans don't have 'pilots' and their origin warns doom for Sonic, Knuckles, Amy and Tails (i so wanna say cuz im excited to ramble)

But that aside the last bit of context required is that knuckles' knowledge of 'english' was erased along with the rest of his memories and so is dealing with a language barrier.

Im using a cypher for Knuckles' dialoge where i split the word in half and swap those halves, (if the word has an odd number of letters the middle letter stays where it is) ill put translations at the bottom.

so with out further ado, a snippet of dealing with a language barrier.

Pink lost her smirk and her face grew soft. "You got to remember he can't understand what we're saying, just how we're saying it. I think he took how you spoke about his claws and tongue as an insult."

Blue sighed. "It wasn't meant to be an insult, it just feels weirdly right to tease and poke at him, and at first it seemed like he felt the same. I don't wanna actually upset the guy, just annoy him a bit."

"Well you're certainly good at doing that."

"yeah, and he's good at doing it to me." Both Pink and Yellow snickered. At the start of the digging Blue and Red had made a game of 'accidently' tossing dirt on each other and it had made quite the delay on the burrow getting started.

The shield remained up, and they could hear dirt being flung about and no sign of it stopping.

"well he's gotta let us in when he's done."

"still feels unfair to make him do it by himself." Yellow glanced back to Blue and ended up noticing he'd taken his gloves off at some point and his hands were covered in dirt.

"What did you say that got him so upset?"

"Well I said he's got some pretty cool claws, but apparently I didn't sound like that and he poked his tongue out at me, and it was oddly long and he seemed to take me staring at it that well and kicked me out." Yellows twin tails flicked, there was something beneath the fog of lost memory about being physically singled out that resonated with him, but the harder he searched the more he felt resistance. He could bring forth the memory of Red getting huffy when being called strange though.

Yellow stepped forward and lightly knocked on the shield, there was a pause in the sound of dirt being tossed about and then the echidna's head popped out of the hole. Red's hands came into view and yellow was able to see that unlike the rest of them, who had bendy fingers tipped with a claw, his entire finger was practically a claw. When Red noticed his staring he growled and narrowed his eyes.

"Wait! before you get mad at me look." Yellow turned and pointed to his twin tails then to each of his friends singular ones. "I've got something unique to."

Red's face became thoughtful and he climbed out of the burrow and took a closer look at Yellow's tails. He then reached up to yellow's head and gave it a stroke. "Red?"

"Reuyo rentediff ot" Red used one of his claws to lift one of his quills slightly and then pointed to the quills on Pink and Blue.

"I think he understood my message!" Yellow turned back to Red when the echidna gently picked up his hand and had a closer look.

"Uryo si os llasm." Yellow’s hand was minuscule compared to Red’s. The echidna would be completely capable of closing his fist around both of Yellow’s. The fox could feel the strength held in those muscles just by the way his fingers twitched and yet Red’s grip was never too tight and the sharp claws brushed along his fur but Red didn’t leave a single scratch.

Blue moved in closer and Red immediately gave him a suspicious look, the hedgehog responded by pointing at Red's claws and giving a genuine grin. "They're cool Red, no need to get all huffy." Red continued to study Blue's expression and eventually let out a frustrated sigh.

Red looked away muttered to himself. "Stju shwi I ewkn atwh uoy rewe ingsay." He then shook his head and gestured for them to follow. "Meco no, mi ostalm nedo"

The echidna lead them into them into the burrow and once his eyes adjusted to the darkness Yellow could identify the deep gashes in the dirt came from Red and the shallower ones came from Blues faster scrabbling. Even with their bickering and head bumping the two had dug out a quite comfortable looking burrow and it was large enough for them to sit inside without bumping their heads. They'd been fine just sleeping on the ground the previous night, but Yellow would like to get some sort of bedding if there was time before the storm hit.

A loud crash sounded from outside the burrow and Yellow tensed. His breath began to quicken and his heart pulsed in his chest. The storm was coming, A thunder storm. Yellow eyes blurred and soon all he could see was the coloured blurs that had given each of them their names. Another crash made his ears lay flat against his head and he began to tremble.

Until a large hand came to rest on his shoulder. 

"Yellow! Reoyu, fesa wndo rehe." Purple eyes came into focus. The face that held them was serious and stern but yet still comforting. "Inghnot llwi teg uoy thwi ym eldshi up." There was pride in Red's voice as he pointed to the entrance where the shield has once again been put up.

Now Red's shield did bring feelings of safety, much like Red himself. Everything about the guy practically screamed 'protector' but there was still something that concerned the fox. "You've only had this power a short time you don't know if you'll be okay keeping it up for a while."

The echidna caught Yellow's concerned tone and gave him a comforting pat. But of course, Red gave no answer to Yellow's worries.

"You'll be alright bud, even if Red's shield goes down we'll keep you safe." Blue smiled and Yellow smiled back. The hedgehog tapped next to him and Yellow walked over and sat where he indicated, the hedgehog was good at keeping Yellow distracted from the storm and he barely noticed Pink and Red carrying supplies in and eventually plopping down with slightly damp fur and in Pink's case, joining the conversation.

Pink didn't miss the way Red's shoulders dropped when Yellow walked away from him to get comfort from Blue. The echidna's face screwed up and his throat tightened. Pink had no clue what he had said, but his tone sounded like he was trying so hard to be comforting. But his words meant nothing to them, and theirs meant nothing to Red.

She really didn't envy poor Red. 

"Hey Red, help me get some stuff from the plane." Pink pointed to the entrance and Red lowered his shield but remained where he was. Pink sighed and pulled him out with her. "No, no. I want you to come out here with me"

Most of the supplies would stay perfectly dry in the plane, but she'd spotted some blankets that would make it more comfortable if the night grew colder. 

Red stopped at the part of the plane that had the word 'Sonic' on it and brushed his claws along it. His gaze was hard and focused but no recognition shone in his eyes.

"You can't read that, can you?" Red looked over his shoulder and the frustration that twisted his face was like a jab. "If it counts for anything, that word is 'Sonic'. You'll at least be able to read one word." She pointed towards the plane to emphasise that 'Sonic' wasn't just another part of the sentence.

Red tilted his head and took a step back. "Sonic ro Sonic?" with the first Sonic he pointed to the word 'sonic' and spoke sharply, then he gestured broadly to the entire plane and drew out the word sonic a bit more. Pink stepped closer and tapped the word itself then ran her finger along each letter as she once again said 

"Sonic"

Red nodded and had a slight smile and repeated the word again, but this time with a proud certainty to it. 

"There we go we'll be able to understand each other in no time."

Grease and Grunge update

Hello, to all my lovely readers. I have once again found the mental fortitude to write! I want to thank everyone for your continued support of this work. It has not fallen out of my thoughts. I had to go on hiatus for a multitude of reasons.

Initially, it was because I got pregnant and when I tell you it was a god-awful pregnancy… it was. I was labeled high risk from the get-go due to a what I will describe as a shitshow of health issues doctors can't seem to agree on. Partially a brain tumor (benign, I guess?), partially a hormone disorder they can't seem to figure the cause of that made it nearly impossible to keep anything down. On top of that I had no energy whatsoever and the job I was holding at the time was… a dumpster fire. I ended up on bed rest due to blood pressure issues and the fact that every time I stood up I would start early labor. I was convinced I'd start writing again but pregnancy brain is real and apparently takes two years to recover from.

The birth itself was a nightmare (I had a unmedicated, vaginal delivery on the operating table for an emergency c-section and tore three directions). But everyone was safe and happy, (I have some choice words about the post-partum unit though.)

All that being said, I've been working on some personal projects in the meantime to regain the debilitating brain rot that pregnancy gave me so I can give Grease and Grunge it's justice. (Also John Price has me in a chokehold rn…)

Seriously, thank you to all the lovely people who have continued to comment and reread and interact with this story on AO3 specifically. You have singlehandedly kept my love for this going and are my inspiration to finish this. I plan on rereading my work and picking up where I left off. I don't know why the end of Chapter 3 cut off on AO3 but I've got some editing and linking to do on both platforms (tumblr being the other). These old cronies disgust you. 

It takes everything in you not to throw up at every word they say, and you still gag a little in the back of your throat.

Every policy these higher ups throw your way is so blatantly self-serving, so clearly made to line their pockets, it's almost comical. 

But it's not funny, it's business. 

You curse your Mom for deciding it would be a good idea to retire early and travel the world while you get to stay here and pick up the damn mess. 

Ugh, this meeting should have been an email.

You’re so bored. 

And when you are bored, your eyes wander to the same spot - your bodyguard, standing with his hands behind his back and his arms on full display looking all scrum-diddly-umptious.

You wish you could grab his ass, but you, unlike the dusty old men your acquainted with, you have some decorum.

Even if it is hanging by a thread.

But hey, it's not Nanami Kento's fault he's got so much cake.

Despite your innate capacity for evil and how down bad you are, you do not make a move on Nanami Kento. 

You do, however, yap his fucking ear off. 

Your therapist says she thinks you where neglected as a child. 

You say you pay him well so you can do whatever the hell you want. 

He carries your shopping bags for you and listens as you discuss fashion and complain about campaign lobbyists in the same sentence. "And then ... Kento?" 

He's quiet for too long, alert. "We're being followed." 

"Ugh, it's probably just the paparazzi," You say with a flick of the wrist and a roll of the eyes.  

"Probably," He says. "But the precautions remain the same. Stay close."

He guides you by the small of your back and inside you are literally internally punching the air.  

"You could have said please,"

He glances down at you. Well, you can't see it because of his glasses, but you know the weight of his gaze. "Please."

Your going to melt on the spot, on god. If he's any more sexy you might just kiss him in the middle of the street. 

"It seems they got the message."

"Damn, I was really hoping to see you fight." You say, mostly just to cause problems. You pay this man, but you don't know really what he's capable of. You’ve never had to see.

"That's unfortunate," He says, pushing up his glasses. "Because I do not wish to fight." 

"That's, like, your job!"

"No," He says. "My job is to protect you."

You blush a little. "Stop flirting with me." 

"Believe me, you would know if I were flirting with you." 

iii . This fire in my head's got me on edge I'm going out tonight

It's embarrassing.

You're suppose to be an independent woman. And falling for your bodyguard?

That's cliche as hell.

You’re disappointed in yourself.

So what do you do? You work out, you work hard, you focus on therapy.

And when that doesn't work - you party, you spend, you drink. 

The air is moist with the sweat of grinding bodies and the smell of much cologne illuminated in electric blue for a second, then cast in halogenic pink. You can feel the beat in your chest.

"Just you and I," The guy is singing over the remixed trap beat. "Far from the places we can't get away from- "

"Kento!" You call over the pulsing music. "I wanna go home!"

"Alright." Is all he says. 

You put your hands out. "Carry me!" You trying him on purpose now. Will he do it?

He turns around, lowering his broad back toward you. 

Your happy it's a piggyback ride, because he can't see the blush forming on your cheeks.

"That was too loud," You complain. 

 Nanami is silent. 

You move your cheek away from his warmth. "Aren't you going to ask why I went?"

"You don't pay me to be nosy." He says.

"What if I wanted to tell you?"

"Then you would," He says. "And I would listen."

"Because you were payed to, right?" 

"It does come with the job description, yes." 

"That's all I am to you, huh, a job description?" You sigh hard. You should have expected as much.

Nanami, notably, doesn't respond - but your a little too far gone and a little too in your own feelings to process that.

iv. I'd be the last shred of truth In the lost myth of true love (hey ya)

One time, you saw a girl flirting with Nanami. 

You where jealous for all of two seconds. You weren't some unreasonable fanfic CEO, he could talk to people damn it!

But the feeling that quickly washed over you was just as icky. 

She was pretty, naturally so. She pushed her hair behind her ear with a bashful smile. 

You wondered if she was the kind of girl Nanami liked. 

If he was gonna hold her hand and they where going to walk off into the sunset and have normal looking poor people babies.

And you would get some older, gruffer looking bodyguard who liked to hit it from the back and never loved you. 

Nanami seemed like the kind of guy who would hit it from the front. … Not that you'd thought too deeply about that. 

You'd die.

Your therapist told you it was okay to want things.

You thought that hag should mind her own business. 

… Even if you payed her and she was one of the only other people, other than Nanami, that always told you the truth.

Anyway, after his lunch break - promptly at 12 o'clock, Nanami arrived to work with a small box.

He slid it toward you.

You raised an eyebrow. 

"You seemed ... upset after that last meeting," was all he said. He cleared his throat.

You wanted to make him wify. Posthaste.

But you knew you’d probably never get the chance.

You are not one of god's strongest soldiers. 

You know this because of the barking you hear in the back of your head when you see Nanami's hands on full display.

You watch as he unbuckles your heels, slides them off. 

"Fuck me," You breath. 

His hands and taking care of you? It's too much. 

Your therapist says that we often crave things we don't normally have. 

Nanami doesn't respond. 

This frustrates you.

"Hey!" You bark, reaching to throw a pillow at him. "Didn't you hear me?" 

"Yes."

"Then why didn't you say anything?" 

You don't give him a second. 

"Is it because I'm a bitch?"

"Why would you believe anything that comes out out the mouth of those degenerates," He says, with a bit more force than usual.

You feel it react in you like the Advil disintegrating in commercials. 

"Then why not ... " You say, more quietly, hugging the pillow to your chest. 

He sighs. "Now is not a good time." 

You click your tongue at him. "When is it? I've been trying to jump your bones for years!" 

"You're drunk."

"So you'll fuck me when I'm not? Like ... in the morning?" 

"We'll see."

"Kento?"

"Hmm."

dont know whos front right nkw but hi its chaos system can you explain whats going on in splatoon to us badly maybe we don't go there but are so curious (only if u want )

haii :D okay so i'm not sure how familiar you are with splatoon so here's a few basic things to get out of the way first:

all of the music is diegetic, and is made by bands that exist in-universe!

each game has an "idol group", which is a group of in-universe celebrities who sort of act as the mascot for that game. whenever you open the game, there's a little news segment run by them where they tell you about any updates the game has gotten, what maps are in rotation, special events, if the biblically prophesied mutant salmon invasion is happening, etc! and they also do songs and stuff.

every, like, month or so, there's an event in the game called a Splatfest! basically, a question is asked, such as "Which is better? Cats or dogs?" and you pick a team, and then you will fight against the other team! this will last like 48 hours, and whichever team does better wins the splatfest and whatever option they chose is now legally the correct one! so if team cats won the "dogs vs cats" splatfest that would been cats are officially factually better than dogs forever

oh and also whenever there's a splatfest, each idol picks a different team, acting as a sort of mascot for that team

the games do not receive support forever, but they like to go out with a bang via a final splatfest! these are the biggest ones, and they actually have an influence on the NEXT game!

the first game's splatfests were run by the musical duo Callie and Marie Cuttlefish. they're called the Squid Sisters, because they're cousins. and the final splatfest in Splatoon 1 was Callie vs. Marie!

Marie won, so in the next game, Callie defected to the side of the enemy

Splatoon 2's splatfests were run by Pearl Houzuki and Marina Ida, who make up the band Off The Hook! they're also lesbiabs. the final splatfest of Splatoon 2 was Chaos vs. Order!

chaos won, so Splatoon 3 takes place in the mad max desert that was once known as france

Splatoon 3's splatfests are run by the musical group Deep Cut, consisting of Shiver Hohojiro, Frye Onaga, and Big Man:

currently, the final splatfest of Splatoon 3 is happening. the Grand Festival!! it's the biggest one there's ever been!!!!!!

the theme is: "Which is most important to you? Past, present, or future?"

and for the first time, instead of each idol representing a specific team, each team is represented by an idol group from one of the games! Past is the Squid Sisters, Present is Off The Hook, and Future is Deep Cut.

for this splatfest, there is a completely new hub world!!!! the Grand Festival Grounds! and it's really really cool this splatfest is so insanely big :] there's a bunch of stands everywhere selling stuff, all of the characters are attending the festival, and there's three big stages at the venue where each of the idol groups can play.

they have fifteen fully animated choreographed performances involving lights and pyrotechnics and dance moves. all of their songs are like four minutes.

THAT IS A FULL HOUR OF FULLY ANIMATED CHOREOGRAPHED PERFORMANCES FOR THE FICTIONAL CELEBRITIES IN THE SILLY SQUID GAME.

that's also fifteen song remixes just for this event.

and this is only the beginning! this is the opening - this is phase 1. even more is to come on saturday night and i cannot WAIT. all of the idols have special Grand Festival outfits that they, noticably, are not wearing at the concerts!

the new map they added to the game specifically for this splatfest, the Grand Splatlands Bowl, has not been used yet! and after we had to do a whole thing last week where we saved it from the salmon

DAAAMN, I FINALLY FINISHED IT!!1!!! fan msm island - Night Island. I think it'll just stay at the concept stage. song - Sleepwalk-Forrest Day (i think it may be cover...or remix. idk).

Let's take a quick look at the canonical monsters that are present here. I would really like to cram the natural ones in here, but they just don't go with the song itself.. That's why they're magical. -one-element: Clackula, Floot Fly, Fluoress. -double element: Osstax, Knucklehead. -triple-element: Mushaboom. -Erthereal: Ghazt. now the most interesting and delicious part: fan monsters. I will tell you about them quickly, too, without unnecessary words.

Orbat - one-element monster of the Night Island. It makes truly heavenly sounds. It sounds like Gob. while she sings (i can say that, right?….) a circle on her stomach and her eyes begin to light up. instrument: pipe organ. Meteoro - He uses vocals during his part.. Well, how are the vocals.. just purring/mumbling.. something like that. Sunstroke - just rams its paws on the spheres around it. Instrument: Cajon (percussion). Silky - MY FAVORITE. ahem.. This kid is literally the foundation. base. He plays the whole song in the background, using his silk threads and bow. Instrument: violin. Violosker - this cat can play on his long whiskers and on your nerves. I'm sorry for the stupid pun. he makes a long and drawn-out sound during his playing. it can be heard mainly in the background (very good at duet with a Silky) instrument: cello. Howl - a sad guy for life. His song is more like crying and howling than the hooting that other owls make. That's why he's called that. Dragolight - a dragon resembling those in Chinese mythology. when his turn comes, his crests, eyes and stripes on his body flash with a bright lemon light, with a distinct sound. (and it also looks like a watermelon). Instrument: electro-synthesizer. Sello & Dart - these are the ones here.. What's their name.. Vocalists?????? Singers?? uh, Werdos. they are the main stars here: they sing the lyrics of the song.

my sister viewed the film Party Girl (1995, dir. von Scherler Mayer) last week at a party in philly and sent me this song featured in the film with no further explanation. Double Cross by First Choice (a Larry Levan remix) has what i want to call bollywood strings, a flute, and the funkiest bassline backing up some really classic disco vocals. First Choice were a group out of philly, which no one at the party knew at the time, and this blog calls this specific remix "dancefloor soul" which is probably as good a descriptor as any. i have had it on loop for a solid week. lyrics include

i read the mandalorian comics in between volumes of berserk, which feels a bit like saying i took a break from watching the evil dead franchise to watch some cocomelon.

the mandalorian comics are a remarkably uninspired nearly shot by shot breakdown of the episodes. not in the way most film/tv comics are, where they’re very clearly traced screencaps, but screenshots redrawn. this would be interesting if the artist was not contractually obliged to the very flat marvel comics style. i am constantly reminded of how the mandalorian is simply…not very good. it’s entertaining as a spectacle of television to watch, but there are not a lot of fun ideas in there. something that made me fucking scream with laughter are these panels of baby yoda

back to the other series with a dark haired, roaming, grouchy, reserved man on a mission. unfortunately i don't have a lot of berserk thoughts just yet, i am waiting on vol 4 to come off my library holds and my brain is still digesting it. anyway i think not wanting random "friendly" embraces from strangers is a very reasonable thing for guts to dislike and i truly do not understand why ppl in-universe get so fucking offended. unfortunately reading these late at night did lead to an unpleasant sleep experience.

not to be all therapeutic but im trying to be Curious About and Gently Interrogate why i get a real bee in my bonnet once a year to read some horror comics/manga when i am big squeamish baby about film depictions of those things. i think mostly bc comics gore is so much more stylized than some of the very effective practical and cgi effects? and crucially nothing is actually like writhing around on screen it’s a still image? does anyone else’s brain have a much easier time handling still images over moving images of gore? much to consider

i have viewed the first four episodes of Fire Force, the urban fantasy mercenary firefighter anime and do not think i will be continuing. while i have a great many questions about the worldbuilding (gravitational anomalies?? genetic predisposition to spontaneous human combustion?? solar god nuns??) it has a dead mom plot, which i am allergic to. this is also a 7.5-8 on the Ass part of the Weeb Ass Shit scale, and has a lot more casual assault than i try to encounter in anime. it's by the soul eater guy, remember the level of Stuff going on in soul eater? a little bit more ramped up groping and stuff that makes me say out loud "wow i don't like this" than soul eater.

the animation re: aforementioned fire is really top notch tho. visually complex and interesting television program.

how i found this: me and my best friend and my best friend's husband morosely poking around the anime section on hulu, looking for something to fill the spy x family void. this ain't it tho

it will be arriving on friday bc that is when the strapping young men who own trucks are available. my front door is a very non standard size and i have a very awkward front stair, so i needed something that could fit under the overhang while standing on its end. this one was the best size and (fortunately) the cheapest at $150. it is some sort of extremely flammable early polyester and 100% has a grandma’s soul trapped within its fibers. i will probably buy a cover at some later date to deter miss macaron but in the meantime we will do the strips of brown painters tape, which does successfully deter her. this really really does not want to be steamed so i will also be procuring some chemicals.

A long vent post about some feelings regarding art, I've had recently.

I feel like real art appreciation can't be taught, if the appreciation for craftmanship doesn't exist. The latter is lacking nowadays with people just throwing away things easily, and generally accepting things of low-quality.

There's more to art than emotion or whatever appropriated terminology to describe the intangible, that you choose to use. I honestly don't care if a human, dog, elephant, monkey, lizard, etc. made that artwork, as long as it looks cool and the painter did as much as they could to the best of their ability. (So yeah, miss me with that "real art has 's o u l' if made by human hands" nonsense.)

AI is different in the sense that it is often approached in a "hands-off" style much like certain types of 3D art. There's always a damned human calling the shots, therefore the human should be held accountable for quality control. The problem with such hands-off art is that these people want to be "artists" while the hands-off nature of their "work" makes them seem more like the clients who give orders, then check the results. However, the AI people take it one step further and just accept the mediocrity and get mad when told that their remixing has very obvious flaws. If they even cared about craftsmanship, they'd never settle for an image that is flawed or lacking. They'd try to fix things by either forcing the AI to make a better pic (with the settings) or painting/photomanipulating the image to fix the hands or eyes, for example. Very obvious flaws would not be missed. (Whereas a regular artist would miss things because they're actually tired of doing all the work creating it.) AI people are not doing as much labor, so they have no excuse not to thoroughly scrutinize whatever it is the AI makes for them.

If such care for craftsmanship existed in the first place, a lot of AI-generated content would look better. But it doesn't because people have low standards. They claim certain subjects and color choices evoke "emotion" but there is no emotion without quality.

I'm going to stop here, before I go off on a tangent on why I don't like abstract art either. Mostly blame public school for that, since it was just encouraging mediocrity and ignoring people who were trying to get good. Not to mention a lot needs to have like outside "justification" instead of looking at the damn thing and getting an idea of what is going on. (Hence why fan art is a superior form of art, despite what the snobs at college tried to say. People recognize the characters and whatever is being shown than just random ass colors.)
