It will become the fourth film to cross 100 crore nett in Mumbai after PK , Dangal and Bahubali - The Conclusion. The action-thriller gave a much-needed relief to the Hindi film industry after the previous year saw some major, big-budget films flop at the box office. 

"Tiger Zinda Hai" completed two successful weekends as director Ali Abbas Zafar's venture made its way past the Rs 250 cr milestone. 

Film-trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the news on his Twitter profile on the first day of the new year compiling the box-office figures of the film.

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif's Tiger Zinda Hai BEATS Aamir Khan's Dangal and Sultan's opening shows' records

Salman Khan and  Katrina Kaif starrer Tiger Zinda Hai is one of the biggest releases this year. The movie helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar is expected to break all the box office records made by Hindi cinema overall.  

The movie which is a sequel to Kabir Khan's Ek Tha Tiger is about India and Pakistan uniting against a common enemy. Tiger Zinda Hai has already recorded the best opening day occupancy report so far after Baahubali: The Conclusion and has now even beaten Aamir Khan's Dangal and Salman's earlier release Sultan in terms of opening shows records.

According to a report on a trade site, Tiger Zinda Hai has easily surpassed Dangal's opening shows record which was also a Christmas release last year. The collection in metros like Mumbai and Bangalore are reportedly a little better than Dangal but in places like Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, the occupancy is said to be double than that of Dangal.  

When compared to Sultan, the morning shows have shown similar turn out as that of Sultan but again Sultan was released on a National holiday. Hence, it will be interesting to see how the movie fares on the upcoming Christmas weekend which is sure to work in TZH's favour- thanks to the positive word of mouth.  

Well, it seems Tiger has finally arrived to rescue the industry from the otherwise disastrous year.

★ Tiger Zinda Hai On Course To Emerge A Huge Winner !

Tiger Zinda Hai is set to emerge a big winner and possibly the biggest hit of the year after Bahubali - The Conclusion though there is some work still to be done for that. The film looks to have managed to found some growth on day two with collections looking to be 34.50 crore nett. This will take the two day business of the film to 68.50 crore nett. Dhoom 3 which was a film of a similar genre had slightly lower collections and also fell 1 crore nett on day two while Tiger Zinda hai with a better first day is going up on day two. Its a solid trend as there is no drop in the all India collections.

The growth has come mainly in the metro multiplexes though a few A centers have also added well and the fall in tier two and three centres is not as big as it could have been considering the big opening. The film is sure to cross 100 crore nett over the weekend and join Sultan and Bajrangi Bhaijaan which are other Salman khan starrers to hit the century mark in three days. The target is the 105.50 crore nett of Sultan which is the second highest weekend of all time after Bahubali - The Conclusion and this looks well within the reach for Tiger Zinda Hai. Its looking like a big finish to a bad year theatrically and it will be the weekdays that will confirm this.

★ Overseas - Tiger Zinda Hai Set To Be Number One Weekend !

Tiger Zinda Hai is looking to head to top spot in the Overseas markets as it may edge past the $6.8 million of Raees and hit $7 million. The collections in US / Canada and Gulf are almost ditto for the film. Raees grossed $1.8 million and Tiger Zinda Hai is $1.75 million while both films grossed $3 million apprx in Gulf. But here Tiger Zinda Hai did not release in Kuwait which is  a $500k loss. The admissions in UAE were 185k for Tiger Zinda Hai and 155k for Raees. The opening would have been $3.5 million if Kuwait was not banned and that would be a non holiday record as Sultan was $3.9 million but on the holidays for Eid. Its been a dull year in Overseas with the top openings as follows.

1. Tiger Zinda Hai (dependent on final Sunday figures as it was Xmas eve and some markets it will be holiday while others will perform at lethargic pace due to festivities)

Paadmavat has recorded the 14th highest weekend of all time (first three full days) but if we account for the territories missing and put a real value on the film then the 75.50 crore nett it has done becomes 101 crore nett.

So in real value the film has  a 101 crore nett weekend and this is giving Gujarat a mid estimate when its likely it will probably would have done towards the higher estimate. It makes the film the sixth highest weekend of all time in real value and that is on a worst case scenario. Tiger Zinda Hai had a huge second weekend of 48 crore nett plus as it cruised past the 250 crore nett mark in ten days. Not only is the weekend huge but the hold is extremely strong as well with collections down under 60% from the first weekend. The growth on Sunday was phenomenal as single screens and smaller multiplexes recorded huge collections.

The way the film is going it is likely that the 300 crore nett mark will before the third week is out. There is a holiday for New Years Day today (Monday) so collections will be strong again but on Tuesday it will be a working day and ticket pricing at major chains will also come down. The film is also likely to have its first non Bahubali - the Conclusion circuit record on Monday as it becomes the highest outright Hindi grosser ever in Bihar.

Tiger Zinda Hai had the second highest opening weekend of all time after Bahubali - The Conclusion and the highest of all time if we count the outright Hindi films only made in the Hindi film industry. The film has gone 10 crore nett past Sultan which released last year and it was a normal weekend whereas it was a holiday period for Sultan .

If we compare with Sultan then its mainly because of tax changes that the film is ahead in terms of NETT collections while the amount collected at the ticket counters which is GROSS is the same at 146 crore apprx. Still Tiger Zinda Hai has done over a non holiday period while Sultan was a holiday period which does make it a bigger achievement. (All collections for Hindi language only and three days only))

Tiger Zinda Hai set a Hindi film industry record as it grossed close to 115 crore nett over the first weekend with the collections on Sunday being phenomenal. The collections are huge all over with film being driven by the core Hindi audience be it multiplexes and single screens. The high end multiplexes were less and lower than last years Xmas release Dangal but the Salman Khan and action factor made sure it easily scored over Dangal in the opening weekend as the mass audience came out in numbers. The only circuit which is not huge is Tamil Nadu / Kerala but its not the core Hindi film audience there so makes little difference to the overall picture. The trend of the film is very strong as it managed to show growth on Saturday despite a strong start and Sunday went to another level. Anupriya Goenka is one face we all have seen, just that we never knew who she was or where she came from. Despite being part of innumerable advertisements and many films (Bobby Jasoos, Dishoom and Daddy), it took Anupriya some time to grab that one role – Poorna in Tiger Zinda Hai. She was the brave-heart nurse who gave a strong support to Tiger aka Salman Khan and his team during their fight against Abu Usman. Now that the film is roaring at the box office, Anupriya has come out as a tigress too. So, can we say Anupriya has finally arrived? “(laughs) That might sound very narcissist. You can definitely say Anupriya’s hardwork has paid off so far, it is looking good. That’s it!” the actor said during an exclusive chat with indianexpress.com.

Tiger Zinda Hai had the highest opening weekend of all time in Bollywood. The Christmas release was definitely a festive gift for the audience. But despite the film hard-selling on Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s reuniting, Anupriya managed to find her way and make a mark. Ask her about all the praise coming her way and she tells us, “It is obviously very overwhelming, it’s a lot to take but at the same time it’s really exciting. I had gone to Chandan theater (in Mumbai) for its screening on second day and I wasn’t expecting anyone to notice me, but it was beautiful how people surrounded me, asked for pictures and acknowledged and appreciated my work.”

Anupriya plays the main nurse among the group of 40 girls who are held hostages by a terrorist organisation in Tiger Zinda Hai. Her character of Poorna helps Indian spy agent Tiger nab the main villain and rescue all the nurses. “Those two months of shooting in Abu Dhabi were very tough. It was such an intense character, I was always in that zone, thinking about terror. There were times when it gets into you, you start imagining death. I remember for my bomb scene where there is a bomb strapped on me, I was preparing for it for two days and by the end of it I started getting these nightmares that I am dying and I won’t be able to see my family tomorrow. It does get difficult at times,” she recalled her on-shoot memories.

Anupriya was a corporate girl until she began doing theatre. This dusky beauty soon left her job to take up acting full time. She was first noticed when she did a bold ad for a clothing line themed around same sex love. Her unconventional rustic looks got her into several TVCs, a TV show and even some Telugu films. She shot for the Bharat Nirman campaign with Pradeep Sarkar and later did Nagesh Kukunoor’s yet-to-release film Maya. After doing small roles in handful Hindi movies, she auditioned for the main lead in director Ali Abbas Zafar’s previous film Sultan too. However, that didn’t work out, but it helped her bag Tiger Zinda Hai.

Ask Anupriya of working with Salman, and she happily shares, “I have learned so much. When you see him in person, you realise why he is called ‘Bhai’, why there is so much of love and affection for him. He has this presence, this aura, this sort of a divine personality and he is very giving as a human being, extremely supportive to newcomers specially. He would guide us, he would tell us what to do and he would make us comfortable. Sometimes when people give you suggestions they are kind of making you nervous, you wonder whether you are doing something wrong. But when Salman gives you suggestions, it just ups your energy level, your enthusiasm and encourages you. And he has this whole body language that you can just go to him for anything and if there is anything going wrong, he will take care of it.”

The starlet will also be seen playing Shahid Kapoor aka Ratan Singh’s first wife Nagmati in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s controversy laden film Padmavati. We saw a glimpse of her character in the song “Ghoomar” which has Deepika Padukone in the title role. Anupriya tells us that she shot for Padmavati before TZH. However, the hatred around the film does trouble her. “It is very hurtful because it is not just your hard work, it is the entire team’s hard work, it is Sanjay sir’s hard work. We all hope and I’m sure once the movie comes out, it’ll be worth it. The same people who are having problems, will enjoy it and will be proud of it, I’m very sure of that. Sometimes, things just happen for a reason. Once it is out, it’ll do the whole country proud,” she said.

Now that Anupriya has become a face to reckon with, is she getting meatier roles? “People always appreciated my integrity towards work. But, now when they see it on such a big scale, there is a different kind of vision that they give you which is amazing. There have been some beautiful scripts that have come my way. One or two amazing opportunities are coming up. And I hope they materialise and something beautiful comes out of it, and in 2018 we’ll be talking again about another beautiful story,” she signs off hinting at some bigger projects in her kitty!
