Ummm I was working on my fin headcanons for a while but few things are really set, so I don't have anything finalized

Anyways, here is a list of what I have so far 💖

Personality and Interests

Fin has an interest in languages and especially in Latin. He is actually fluent in Latin and keeps up with it regularly

He can play the guitar and piano. He is better at the guitar tho

Fin collects free buckets. No you cannot have a bucket

When working out, Fin is someone who almost always prefers strength training to cardio. He’s there to LIFT and it shows in his muscles

Growing up, Fin was self-conscious about his brown eyes. He values them now

In general, Fin has struggled with some body issues in the past because he felt self-conscious or too different from others. But after growing up and maturing, Fin now really values his own individuality and likes standing out from the rest of the Nordics

Nevertheless, there can be a rare nagging voice telling him that he doesn’t look good and needs to blend in more with the group

Honestly, I think Fin has a weird relationship with his own identity?? Growing up he struggled to fit in and now as an adult he doesn’t want to fit in, but it’s also like he’s stuck between two different worlds and can never be truly satisfied

Fin is a surprisingly good dancer

At work, Fin is punctual, methodical, and professional. On the weekends, he is a gremlin and a menace

Fin has a tendency to speed while driving, especially when he’s mad. He has amassed a collection of tickets over the years

Fin claims that he is a good driver, but his tendency to speed says otherwise. Swe doesn’t like being in the car with him because of this reason: he is praying for his life before Fin crashes the car due to his overconfidence

Fin has intimacy and possibly commitment issues

He likes to claim that he is authentic and true to himself, but he is still one self-conscious guy. Honestly, part of me thinks he uses the “I’m authentic” spiel to make up for the fact that he absolutely is not. But that’s for another post

Honestly he sometimes struggles with his sense of masculinity

Fin is an overachiever and by extension a workaholic

He knows how to sail, fish, hunt, survive in the woods, and work with ropes. But out of all of these he’s the worst at sailing

Outdoors and Pets

Fin has a mökki that he likes to disappear to, especially during the summer months or when he is overwhelmed with work. It’s located by a lake and is luckily located near some berry and chanterelle patches

Speaking of patches, these are TOP SECRET!! He will never share their locations with anyone, and if he sees someone picking at his berry bush, he will sic his dog on you

His dog is a white Finnish lapphund and she is adorable and is not scary

Also most of Fin’s pics on his phone and social media are of his dog (understandable)

He takes really good care of her, buys her expensive kibble, and has lots of toys and training days for her. He also likes to take her on hikes

Fin has a big collection of Aku Ankka comics at his mökki

Health

Fin is allergic to perfumes

Also in the last few years he has become gluten-sensitive and has some vague gastrointestinal issues (probably IBS)

He likes to claim that he is tough and illness doesn't bother him, but he actually gets sick easily and regularly. He tries to hide it tho

Appearance

Fin is plump but muscular. He can be your pillow AND help you move in the same day <3

His wardrobe is pretty casual and he dresses for comfort. He has a ton of hoodies and sweatpants in his closet

Fin has a scar on his left shoulder that he got after WWII

Relationships

Fin has a bad habit of disappearing out of people’s lives when he is feeling mentally unwell. He doesn’t want to be a burden to others and bog them down with his own feelings so he self-isolates when he’s sad and can get upset when people don’t reach out to him

In general, Fin just has a bad habit of ghosting. He does this a lot

Fin and Nor like to get together for coffee, winter sports, and talk shit about Sweden (time honoured tradition)

Fin and Estonia send each other cat memes via social media. It’s their love language (me core)

If Fin’s not at his mökki by himself, he’s probably with Swe. The kids love to play with Fin’s dog and in the lake

Fin is good at making friends quickly and being on people’s good side, but it’s very hard for him to TRULY bond or connect with him. A lot of his connections seem superficial and he has trouble getting them to go deeper

He identifies as demisexual, but has struggled with his sexuality in the past, especially regarding his potential attraction to other men. In the past, the thought of him being in love with another man made him ashamed

There are more things that I want to clarify/add in future posts, but I hope these are enough for now <3

Character analyses' are so fun to read because people have so many different thoughts about a single character and how that character has changed and will change in response to the environment and people around them.

Take Dazai Osamu for instance-there are so many different interpretations of his character and they figure all of that out from minute details in the novel/manga he's in. Like no, I wouldn't have figured out the connection between his ability to control his heartbeat and his humanity but thank you for taking the time out of your day to point that out.

Or someone from a completely different fandom, like say, a similar detective character who also goes around solving cases because they've inherited that trait from a mentor they deeply respect. MaoMao from Apothecary Diaries! There are numerous analysis' about not only her and how her past (being raised in a brothel) deeply affected her emotional regulation, but also posts about other people in the fandom and the symbolism behind every scene and visual metaphor used.

But in both fandoms, their respective members won't always agree with each other.

And it's just such a joy to see what people's thoughts are and their feelings about a character/characters/anything really that they're incredibly passionate about. Even if I don't always agree with them. It's just so nice to see for me. So this is a post for all who write analysis' on character's. You're doing gods work keep it up!!!

"What I’m really afraid of isn’t feeling pain // It’s losing my strength // As if my veins have been stripped away" – so . the beginning already screamed HV! Colin to me ; hez not necessarily afraid of feeling pain itzelf . rather hez afraid to have people messing with hiz insidez [both hiz software and hiz hardware] and changing thingz – the line "As if my veins have been stripped away" can refer both to the fact hiz wirez are entwined with hiz veinz and getting rid of one would also mean getting rid of the other . but also to all the information stored inside him and how getting rid of it would be exactly like being stripped of hiz identity

"Nobody can live alone // They need someone apart from themselves" – i find that thiz line correlatez with the fact that HV! Colin and Tracey had to depend on one another to actually survive when they were younger ; neither of them would be alive in the current HV timeline if not for the other

"I’ve lost all my sensitivity // Since that’s out of the question for me now" – az time passed . however . the two began to grow distant ; Colin would be pulled away from Tracey time and time again by hiz dutiez and responsibilitiez and . eventually . he waz isolated from almost the entire world – a test subject stuck in a cage . only interacting with hiz observerz when they came by every couple of hourz . monitoring hiz progress in the "Operation"

"Someone, someone // Wanders, just like that // Do they run? They run! // At any rate, the result is—" – i find thiz line to actually refer to HV! Tracey . and how they spent most of their time while Colin waz absent basically wandering through the facility . and ending up accidentally discovering what the Operation really entailz ; in my mind . thiz line iz from Colinz pov . az now The Operation iz in full swing . carefully monitoring them – they run . for they know big brother iz watching you

"The moment your vision turns pitch black // Isolation comes to attack you // This world is so vast // Do you understand? // You’ll be alone forever" – i think thiz iz actually Tracey trying to reazon with The Operation itzelf [im uzing "The Operation" to refer to Colin in the state of . y'know . being wired to act az the peefect machine "he was alwayz meant to be"] ; alternatively . thiz could be The Operation trying to convince Tracey to hand over control and instead join thiz hivemind – reminding them that nobody iz on their side in thiz situation anymore . and that it would be one against many if it came down to a fight

"You want to be strong // But you just keep getting weaker" – once again . another jab at how HV! Tracey iz trying so hard to keep going without the support from their once beloved brother . and how they want to take down The Operation but can't – not just becauze itz stronger than them . but also becauze they're held back by the idea of having to hurt the body that belonged to someone so dear to them

"Do tears taste good? // You look utterly foolish" – are you – machine meant to work . experiment meant to be studied – crying ? are you – thing made not to feel . but to be marveled at – expressing emotion ? perhapz you should've been decomissioned long ago .. you're clearly not cut out for thiz cruel . cruel world . you poor fool ...

"The sounds of you falling apart are so annoying. I can’t stand it // Meanwhile, I want to put a bag on my head and sleep" – i think thiz iz actually something Tracey would be thinking ; rather than facing thiz monstrosity . the awful sound of twisted wordz spoken by a familiar voice . they would chozen to be decomissioned long ago

"When the world turns pitch black // Perhaps you’ll understand everything // In this place where I belong // I am alone // Because you’re me" – once again . The Operation trying to coax the smaller one to hand over the control – to finally be useful for once and aid in itz growth . to serve thiz flawless machine ; they're made from the same metal . the same wirez . the same people – they are one another and itz about time Tracey became a reflection of what they were suppozed to be since the very beginning ; i also feel like thiz could refer to the fact that . if Tracey WAZ to hand out control . that would leave Colin defenseless . in the place where he belongz – the very chamber hez been locked inside to act az the most masterful computer

Ehryu's music definitely counts. she'll happily sing and play the songs that she learns from Jehantel (or anywhere else), but she loves writing her own songs even more. and even with songs she's learned elsewhere, i imagine improvisation and putting your own spin on old songs is super common among bards.

and she'd be wildly offended by any implication that there's anything lesser about that compared to "practical" things. she knows very well the positive impact music can have :)

Hi, absolutely no pressure but I saw your post mentioning your undergraduate thesis and it sounds very interesting! What did you do it on?

hi!! fair question lol, I never figured out a succinct way to phrase it but it was on the emergence of a queer* male** culture in nineteenth century UK urban centres. I specifically studied the spatial, linguistic, and non-verbal communication between AMAB individuals who had sex with other AMAB individuals (which is horribly not trans inclusive and I hated that but the history department/professors I was writing for weren’t well versed in historical trans/queer theory and pushed me away from delving into any of that). it was a lot of fun to get into what parks were best for cruising, what terms they used to identify one another vs what society put onto them, and I even got to talk a bit about hand signals and postures and such that would’ve worked as flagging!!

truth be told the paper has a lot of potential that I did not meet and don’t really have the capability to—I wrote the first submission of it while abroad in the UK and that did well, but when I wanted to make it better and resubmit for honors I lacked further research and the patience for the historiography needed to actually improve it. I also mentioned somewhere around here that I’m currently working on my masters but now I’m even further from the UK so I think I’ll have to pivot completely :/

I’m happy to talk about any/all of it if you’re interested, and thank you for asking!! I haven’t gotten many (any?) non-spam asks and I do so love talking about queer history lol

8: I’m not American and also did not have assigned readings so unfortunately I did not get to read it in school. But I always saw it referenced everywhere and curiosity got the better of me. And here I am.

10: That’s difficult… hmm… I don’t think there’s any I genuinely dislike (like wish it wasn’t there) in the book. I think they were all important and necessary. Cherry and Pony’s final scene (in the book) is hard to for me to read even though it was such a character-defining one.

13: One thing I love about the Outsiders is that every single character is written SO well. None of them fall flat or feel without substance. I have to go with Pony himself though. Will write an essay on just him because his character, relationships and worldview all go through such major changes and SE Hinton uses foils and context to enhance his character so WELL

Johnny is specifically a Latino man. This is something I think is really important to her character whether or not SE Hinton meant it. Due to the context of the Outsiders, it’s the only headcanon about Johnny being a POC that genuinely works and makes sense

Sodapop goes through a depressive phase after the Outsiders. I feel Sandy and starting a life with her was the one thing that kept Soda hopeful and without her, he’s no longer distracted from his insecurities and problems

Ponyboy leaves Tulsa for good. This is kinda said in the text (and that Darry would also leave) but it’s still not exactly canon. He still keeps in touch with his friends who still live there but he would never stay for long. I can see him living in the city for a while and retiring to the country later on

Dally is originally from Tulsa like the rest of the guys. He just moved to New York for a few years and then returned back

Dally was super close to his own mother when she was alive and that’s why he got along so well with Mrs Curtis. She was also a deeply religious person which is a source if conflict for Dally because he isn’t

20: I fucking hate Ponyboy because he reminds me wayyyy too much of myself. In fact, there’s literally no difference I can think of, from his personality and character to even stuff like his love for soda (both the drink snd the character asjknfd), cigarettes (I stopped before I could really get into it tho), fast driving and chocolate
