Another ask separate from my rq, are there any artists or other influences that have inspired your art that you'd like to share?

ohh boy, this is definitely a question I can ramble about (apologies in advance for the long text!!)

Long Answer (rambling):

when it comes to art, i am definitely inspired by other visual artists, but i am also very inspired by the world around me as well as creators of other types of media. i'm extremely lucky to have grown up in a lively, diverse city with a wonderfully creative family, so the art and music of my family and environment plays a large part in my artistic preferences!! Something I have really wanted to integrate more deeply into my art is the contrast between new and old, grungy and refined... it reflects a lot of the conflicts that make up what I consider to be "me." Also, I just really like the vibe of chaotic industrial zones and rusty metal combined with a shining city in the distance, lol.

Regarding particularly influential media: pretty much anyone who's taken a glance at my blog will know immediately that Arknights is one of my biggest influences. it's basically all i draw nowadays... whenever I'm not thinking about Responsibilities and Adult Life i'm usually thinking about either Arknights or Ado (<3).

before Arknights, I spent a long time drawing fanart and fan-characters inspired by How to Train Your Dragon. Both the visual and musical aspects of that series still have a very dear place in my heart, even if I don't engage much with the community anymore. I actually only really started drawing not-dragons about 3 or 4 years ago at this point. Something I have been thinking about a lot recently is how I can go back to drawing more creatures alongside my humanoid subjects, since it's not something I've done very much recently.

Gradually I began to find more friends in the art community, and I think I'm very influenced by those people as well! It isn't a competition, of course, but being around people who are also pushing to improve is a big motivator when I am feeling low on passion. "I want to stand together with them at the top of world one day", is how I often feel. I really want to work on a collaborative project with other artists someday as well. Trying to build my skill is partially because I want to better express my ideas, but also because I want to inspire and be inspired by other creators. :D I think my art has been evolving at a pretty good pace recently because of these motivators.. the friends and regulars (including you, burstfoot!!) that visit my blog regularly here really motivate me too!!

and lastly, I'm at a point in my life where I feel that if I can't get this art thing off the ground, I will probably have to give up on pursuing it properly soon... so it's partially desperation that is inspiring me to change and try new ways of expression as well :,]

Mahou Shoujo Magical Destroyers Episode 6: Revolution Eve

This series just gets weirder and weirder, doesn't it? Such an odd and unique blend of everything Otaku, encapsulated by a production team that's holding on for dear life with the anime. I won't lie, the further you get into it, the more niche it gets to watch, but for those that are fully into Otaku culture at large, it's certainly still a good episode.

The biggest thing this episode addresses is that "Otaku" isn't a term that's particularly reserved for any one group. Otaku is Japan's version of a geek, that extends past English's general use of the term into something more pinpoint. Where we have audiophiles Japan would place them under Otaku, if you're a computer geek, you'd still be considered an Otaku. It's a world of information and hobbies that exist under that branch, and it's an easy thing to miss or not understand if you take the term as a direct equivalent to English's "geek".

Just see here where we've got Blue-chan listening to a New Order album and geeking out about it with Otakuhero. Also, New Order is a real band, an English rock band, and the album Blue-chan's listening to is their 1987 release "Substance", for any of those who want to check it out.

Then there's also Otakuhero's story about his father who was a computer geek, and how he used to bond over having similar passions and interests with him.

The whole point of the episode is to show how under Otaku there's a world of different people. People that adhere to the animanga side of things like the term is associated with these days, or people that are more interested in maids and moe stuff, or music, or computers, or any other manner of thing. It's a melting pot of culture and passion that became a world renowned scene thanks to Akihabara, and a place that all Otaku were able to go to share their passions and hobbies with other people. It's pretty fun and warm in that regard.

Though alongside that we also do have story progression centered around Otakuhero and his Magical Girls. How they came to be, how they act, and so on and so forth. I'd say, personally speaking, that it's arguably the most "nerdy" or "fanfic" style writing in the episode, but it's a side that you can't really ignore all that much. It's a high school kid's dream of how to approach a story that centers around the vision that comprises their adult career, there's just something about it that makes me curious. How it is they get from A to B, what they were thinking while writing it and what they think of it now. It's just a world of information that's so strongly connected to Inagawa that I just can't help be be curious about it.

Admittedly though, there's still some good storyboarding and visuals throughout this stretch. It's not like it's an inherently bad or grueling sequence, but more so something I think I can spare people a conversation on as I'm sure it's an approach to writing that many have experienced beforehand.

And truthfully, I think I can say that for the rest of the episode. Not that it's boring or bad, but that it's effectively what you expect out of Magical Destroyers. The biggest pieces are what happens between the lines, the odds and ends that you pick up on from conversations or display cases or interactions.

So I think I'll just leave it here with some cool scenes/gifs from the episode, because even though Bibury is struggling greatly with this series, there's still some solid work put in here and there.

"There you are." Hikari sighed in relief as she approached the man holding him. "I'm so sorry for troubling you. My cat wasn't a bother, I hope?"

The blonde man smiled. "Don't worry, he's well behaved. You've trained him well."

Hikari smiled. "Thank you, um...mister...?"

"Yamato," he replied. He stretched out his hands and returned Miiko to his owner. "You take care of yourself...." He smiled.

"Hikari," she introduced herself. "And Miiko." She held up the cat whom she was now carrying.

Yamato nodded. "Bye." And he walked in the other direction.

Hikari watched him go before turning Miiko for them to be face to face. "You've been such a brat lately, you know that."

As she lowered her cat down, she noticed that a younger man was running towards Yamato, panting with his hands on his knees. She wondered what could possibly be wrong.

Just then, Miiko meow-ed and jumped out of her hands. Hikari's eyes widened. "Miiko!" As fast as she could, she followed the troublesome cat towards Yamato and the younger man.

When she called for him again, Yamato and the younger man had turned to look. The older man had a smirk on his lips. When Miiko stopped by his feet, Yamato was just about to pick him up when he moved towards the younger man beside him.

"Oh, hello," the young man greeted. He bent down and carried the feline. "What's your name?"

"Miiko," Yamato replied. "His name is Miiko." He gestured towards the cat and then nudged the man. "Miiko, this is my brother, Takeru." Miiko meow-ed again. "And she," Yamato paused as Hikari finally caught up, "is Hikari, his owner."

Takeru looked behind the cat and grinned. "You've got a very handsome cat."

Hikari tilted her head and then smiled. "Thank you. That's a first. Miiko was always called 'annoying' or 'bratty', sometimes even 'the worst'," she giggled. "I'm sure Miiko is shocked by the sudden compliment."

Takeru chuckled. "Well, it's true. He's handsome, I mean."

Hikari grinned. "We better get going," she said and walked towards him. As Takeru handed the cat to her, their fingers brushed against each other and both blushed. Hikari slowly brought Miiko towards her, head bowed down. "Thank you."

Takeru nodded, his head down as well. "No problem...Hikari."

She smiled once again and then turned to the older man. "Thank you again, Yamato."

Yamato smiled.

As Hikari turned around, once again wanting to reprimand the escaping cat, Takeru called out to her. She stopped in her tracks and turned back. "Yes?"

Takeru gulped. "There's a cafe where you can bring animals. Do you...want to go...with me? You and Miiko, I mean."

Hikari pivoted, looked at Miiko, at Takeru, then at a smirking Yamato, and then back at Takeru. "Yes."

01. how did you find out about anime? Since I was a kid, I’ve been watching anime already on TV so that’s how I found out about anime. And then I started borrowing DVDs from my classmates who loves watching anime too. I would watch online too. 

02. what’s your favorite anime? Tough question, really. I love anime so mentioning only one is out of the question. But for the sake of answering the question, I’d say Daiya no Ace (I even started writing fanfic even though I’m not good at it) and then Sabikui Bisco which is currently being aired right now. I have hundreds of favorites because I just really love anime in general. But let’s stick with these two for now.  ＼(٥⁀▽⁀ )／

03. do you have a favorite j-music/k-pop group/singer? The first japanese band i started listening to was OOR (ONEOKROCK). I even watched their concert here in my country. But right now, I do have a lot of Japanese bands and artists that I like. Special mention: Eve, King Gnu, Official HigeDAN, Kenshi Yonezu. There are a lot more but let me limit myself to these. Otherwise, this will turn to a novel. 

04. when is your bday? and how old are you? Really? Do I have to answer this? I’m quite old, you know. Aug 30 and I’m turning 29 this year.

05. currently, what is your favorite fandom anime? Fabiniku, My Dress-up Darling and Sabikui Bisco (I’m consistently making posts for these series right now).

06. despite the ups and downs on tumblr, what motivates you to stay here today and do your best? Tumblr is incomparable to other social media sites. I can post my interest and hobbies here without being judged. Also, I’m ace-aro and everyone’s considerate of me. I’ve been using Tumblr for almost 10 years now and I haven’t experienced any bad memories so far. This is the best social media site for me.

01. How did you find out about anime?  Omg, I’m kinda afraid of this one because it all really begun recently, if I remember correctly, it was 2020 and my best friend made me start watching BNHA. Oh boy, little did he know that once I like something there is no turning back and so I started digging more and more. But let’s not forget those times when smol kid Nuu didn’t even know the word anime existed but enjoyed Inuyasha, Sailor Moon, Ranma 1/2 anyways.

02. What’s your favorite anime?  Haikyuu!!🧡 I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it, every time I recommend it to someone I have to start watching it with them and I get all the emotions as if it was the first time all over. 🕯️Prayer circle for season 5🕯️ 

03. Do you have a favorite J-music/K-pop group/singer?  Without a doubt: Centimillimental, I thank Given everyday for introducing me to this talented man, he is my favorite. Following real close is Eve!! There is definitely not a bad song omg. I also listen to a little bit of King Gnu, Burnout Syndromes, Aimer and thanks to my sister I’m starting to get into K-pop with Stray Kids, Tomorrow x Together...

04. When is your bday? And how old are you?  September 10th (500% virgo), 28.

05. Currently, what is your favorite fandom anime?  I’m not sure if I’d be able to pick just one, maybe it’s because I haven’t been long enough in each one of them(? but with every anime/manga I start I gladly join and want to stay forever in that fandom.

06. Despite the ups and downs of Tumblr, what motivates you to stay here today and do your best? I don’t think I have experienced so many of the downs of tumblr since I just got back a few months ago, but one thing I know for sure; tumblr was the actual motivation to endure 2021, then I started finding lovely people that made tumblr even better... so, basically it’s the first app I check every day lol. I wish I could get to know all of you a little better ( ꈍᴗꈍ)

Snowflakes and Promises

Toru Oikawa x reader

Author’s note: Hey @p-irozhki , I am your animanga secret santa! I hope you enjoy this one-shot I wrote! This is my first time writing for Oikawa or ANY Haikyuu character, but I liked how it turned out. Happy Holidays!

“Toru? Are you in here?”

No answer.

“Toru?!”

Running out of patience, you went ahead and pushed open the door, not exactly sure what you expected to see. Maybe he was asleep? Or not even here?

Neither of the prior options were correct; maybe you should have expected it, but Toru Oikawa was sitting at his desk, fervently watching a recording of a volleyball game on his laptop. Even as you stepped into his room, he didn’t look up. The boy was completely engrossed, his eyes darting around from player to player with a look of cool focus that you only saw in him while he was on the court. You stood still for a moment before letting out a breath. “Really? You’re studying?”

The sound of your voice right behind him was what broke his trance. With a high-pitched yelp, he turned in his seat, accidentally banging his knee against the side of his desk. "Ah! Knock first!" he objected, frowning cutesy up at you. 

"I did knock. Several times," you assured him, rolling your eyes as you walked to his side. "Is that you?"

"Yeah!" He pointed at one of the players on the screen. "I'm not enjoying this, though, this was one of my worst performances, I need to figure out why- hey!" He gasped as you reached down and snapped the screen shut. "What's that for? What do you even want?" 

"Toru, I brought you a present." 

You held up the wrapped box you were carrying, and Oikawa's eyes widened. "Ooh! Wait, why?"

"It's Christmas Eve, dummy." Of course he would forget. "And I'm not gonna let you keep torturing yourself today."

Oikawa ripped open the box and drew in a breath. "Oh wow… these must have been expensive…" He lifted the new pair of court shoes out, his eyes glistening with shock. 

"Yeah… but it's worth it. And that's not all!"

He quickly dug through the box before lifting out the second, smaller gift: a wooden ornament carved and painted into the shape of his jersey. His number was even painted on the back. "This is so cool… did you make this?"

You nodded, glad to see the smile on his face. "It took a few tries… but- ah!" You stumbled as the tall boy jumped to his feet and engulfed you in a hug. However, you quickly got over your shock and hugged back. 

"It's amazing… thank you."

"Of course." You pulled back to smile up at him slyly. "Now, get your coat! We're going out!"

"Huh?"

Oikawa had no escape, so he did as you said. Soon, the two of you were walking down the street, hand in hand. You breathed in the cool night air, ripe with excitement for the day to come. You felt something cold on your nose and looked up. "Oh! It's snowing!"

The two of you stood still as the flakes blossomed around you. Oikawa stuck out his tongue to taste one, and couldn't help but grin boyishly. You giggled a little. He's so cute when he can just relax-

"I'm sorry."

As if he could read your thoughts, Oikawa spoke. "I promise I'll spend all day with you tomorrow… You're right, I shouldn't be so strict with my time."

You knew he struggled to let loose. The only place he truly felt like himself was on the court, and if he lost his crown…

Despite that, he smiled now, giving your hand a squeeze. "One day, Volleyball might stop being a part of my life… but I always want you in my life. You're my greatest gift."

"Toru…" 

You couldn't summon any more words to express how much that meant to him. Oikawa leaned down, his warm lips pressing against the skin of your forehead, as tender and loving as could be. 

Maybe this Christmas would be just as perfect as you imagined it, after all.

aha! interesting! it’s simple but i super hope you like it! (unedited, forgive me)

mimi liked the idea of a knight in shining armor riding a white horse. she was always fond of them. perhaps because of all the stories her mother read to her when she was younger. she enjoyed them but she was more interested in the hero than the princess.

as she grew older, she wondered if it was because she wanted one. and lately, she had been getting dreams of a blonde man wearing a knight’s suit and on a white horse.

it always began with her in a garden. she loved the flowers, and the trees and bushes were very green, they were all taken cared for really well. but then there’s the horrible part. there was a riot and she was right in the middle of it. people yelling and pushing her aside, she feared for her life.

and then the man comes. his hand reaching out to her, he was concerned and a little afraid, but she knew he was concealing it with a determined look on his face. he was calling out to her, but she couldn’t hear him quite well with all the noise. when his horse trotted closer, she reached out her hand to grab his.

but then she would wake up, she had never seen the ending…she wasn’t sure if she wanted to or not.

a stroll at the park was what she needed that friday evening. she was tired and beat, she had just gone out with her friends for a drink but decided it was time to retire early. but not without a quick walk.

she began people watching, seeing couples holding hands, children either playing around or laughing with their parents, and an elderly couple beside her bench. she smiled at them when they noticed her, they smiled back.

just as she had turned away, the elderly woman called for a man whom she saw was walking towards them. he looked familiar yet she knew she had never seen him before in her life. “yamato.”

she tried her best not to look. he was very handsome. if only she could talk to him…then she shook her head and let out a soft chuckle. “what are you thinking, mimi,” she said with a smile.

“do you mind?”

she looked up and saw yamato looking at her, his hand gesturing at the empty space beside her. “sorry,” he said. “i’m supposed to be looking after my grandparents but they won’t make space for me.”

she smiled. “go ahead.”

he sat down and they were quiet. finally, she couldn’t help it. she turned to him, cocked her head and asked, “have we met? you look really familiar. maybe you have better memory.”

he stared at her.

“ah, sorry,” she said with a nervous giggle. “i didn’t mean to…well…”

“i was wondering the same thing about you,” he said, surprising her. “i feel like i know you. but surely, this is the first time we’ve met.”

mimi licked her upper lip. “this is strange, isn’t it?” then she laughed. “i’m mimi,” she introduced. she held up her hand for him to shake.

“yamato.” he reached for her hand.

that’s when flashes of her dream appeared. the same garden, the same riot, the same man. this time, she could hear him.

“princess!” he called. “princess, grab my hand!”

as soon as her hand reached his, she heard her name being called by the knight, but then her mind brought her back to reality. her hand was still gripped in yamato’s and she instantly pulled away. ‘what was that?’ she thought. “sorry, i just—”

“you’re her,” he whispered.

she inhaled sharply.

“you’re her,” he repeated a little louder. “you’re the princess.”

she was at loss for words. he was the knight? yamato, a man she had never seen in her life, was the knight in her dreams?

“i couldn’t save you,” he said with a shaky breath. “no matter how many times i dream about it, i couldn’t save you.”

she stayed silent.

“i’m confused,” he stated.

“same,” she admitted. “are you interested in looking into this some more?” at the back of her mind, she wanted him to say yes.

he nodded and smiled. “i would really like that…princess .”
