First OP to Summer Time Rendering. This song got me so excited every time I started a new episode. I watched it this summer, usually in the middle of the night and I would just sink so deep into the vibes and get consumed watching an episode. I hated when they switched OPs, but I kept listening to this one every time I smoked on my sister's fire escape for a while.

2. Absolute Zero by natori

Wind Breaker OP!! Every time this played it made me wanna scream. I would blast the volume, and dance along, and sing the 'superhero' bit, and do the shoulder flick thing they do with their jackets, lol. It's soooo hype, and the MV is very cool and stylish. I wanna listen to more of his stuff.

3. 逆夢 "Sakayume" by King Gnu

This is my favorite band, and my favorite song. I have listened to this on repeat so many times in the last year. It's the first credit song from JJK 0, and I think it made me cry the first time I heard it. Reading the translated lyrics probably did it again. And oh my goodness, the set in this music video, my god. I love the lead singer's voice, I love basically everything they do. Great song, give it a listen.

4. KICKBACK by Kenshi Yonezu

CHAINSAW MAN OP CHAINSAW MAN OP!! I really had a hard time deciding between the OP and the artist's MV because the OP is sooooo good, but the full song is great and the music video is really funny. The way this song just sinks into your bones with the BROOOM of the chainsaw and the deep ass base line at the beginning. Ugh, I love this song so much. On repeat.

5. 我がまま "Wagamama" by Whaledontsleep

This song edged out the two below the cut just because the music video is so good. OP for Senpai is an Otokonoko, a show that just finished airing a few weeks ago and is one of my new favorites. This artist did the OP and collaborated on the ED. Both are so sing-along-able and both made me cry by the final episode. Perfect pick for this show, and again the music video is great. I didn't see what it was doing until 1:47 but when I did it made me so happy.

This man is probably the best vocalist in the entire world. Incredible Kazakh artist, he has a crazy range, sings in 12 languages including Kazakh which is a criminally underrepresented and oppressed language. This song is so beautiful and my favorite by him.

7. POP IN 2 by B-Komachi from Oshi no Ko

I have been absolutely obsessed with this song for the last 3 weeks. I've listened to it played on calculators. I've watched so many people do the dance. I learned half the lyrics. The full song is good, but the MV short is just so artistically exciting. Everytime they zoom into Ruby's black eyes it gives me a chill. It's a bop with a dark undertone, like everything in OnK. I love it.

[blah blah worlds fairs as part of the greater museological institution, also part of imperialism blah blah cultural display.] The 1893 Chicago World's Fair, also known as the World's Columbian Exposition, was a world's fair commemorating the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the Americas. Like many previous and subsequent world's fairs, it used cultural display to champion ethnographic, white supremacist, and imperialist ideology.

blah blah. the columbian expo is a fantastic example because of the sheer breadth of concepts it demonstrates really handily. I'll expand on these:

the use of spatiality in conveying meaning

the use of monumentalism and connection to white supremacy

the use of cultural display in imperialism

how context in museological display informs how an item or display is viewed and understood -- both that of the greater museological institution an item is displayed within, as well as the context of immediately surrounding items/displays

the capacity for exhibitions to inform public opinion, and its capacity as propaganda

the complexities of self representation within colonial contexts

The United States, similarly to previous hosts of such fairs, took the opportunity to emphasise their imperialist feats and presumed cultural superiority. This was done in large part through the use of spatiality, or the physical construction of the exposition: [expand on spatiality] specifically, the “Midway Plaisance” and the “White City”. The Midway Plaisance was a two-mile long road, lined with ethnographic displays “representing” various cultures and races, and ending with the White City. Where a culture’s display was placed along the path was determined by racist, pseudoscientific criteria that assessed their perceived level of evolutionary progress based on factors such as skin colour, participation in capitalism, and ways of living. etc etc

OMG OKAY I listened to it at work so I couldn’t pace around like I Wanted too because I had so many thoughts and feelings in the moment but honestly I really liked it from where the podcast is going it’s so fun. I think this also pushed Francis to be my favorite character they were all kinda tied but I really like what Anthony is doing with him rn as a character it’s so fun especially with it being a call of cthulhu campaign. Wonderful character choices from him yayy. Also Trudy and Kelsey lesbian moment I loved that <3

I doubt there's any real authorial intent to callback to the story but griffith and moonlight baby's current situation sort of reminds me of the Japanese tale of the woodcutter/O-Kaguya-hime. Magical eternal child delivered to a certain couple at an auspicious time, the moon-themed apparition in question having to return to a celestial kingdom and having to shed their humanity in that instance, the transformation being marked by being clothed in pure white feathers, Princess Kaguya having been sent down to earth as punishment for a heavy but unspecified transgression, etc.

Especially since a place that is home (simple but filled with people who genuinely love you) vs home (a place you must belong and must return to) is one of the big themes in the legend and I just feel that sort of reflects nicely with the two biggest desires Griffith had had as a human (the dream vs the one thing that made him forget his dream [genuine companionship]). Not to mention thinking of it that way reminds me personally of how you've framed Griffith's dream vs Berserk's Warm Light Of Companionship before in a work you've written and posted before, I think Snowmelt.

Sorry for rambling and again I don't believe any of this makes up any actual point about the text or Moon baby or Griffith's current place, the thought just sounds kind of fun and it's just one way I've found that the whole werebaby plotline makes more sense to me. Oh yeah I absolutely see what you mean, that sounds very similar thematically. I couldn't say whether it's intentional, but Miura did tend to incorporate a lot of folklore/mythology/etc in his works, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was. But either way it's a cool similarity.

coach ben is so interesting to me, because on one hand he is a young adult (the only adult) trying his best with one leg in the woods with a bunch of teenagers.

He has all the reason to be afraid of seeing the girls eat Jackie, but calling them or seeing them as monsters for doing that (as kids who are quite literally STARVING, eating jackie was a last case scenario, and this comes from someone who is a jackie stan) was crazy.

his reaction to what happened to javi on the other hand was more justified, seeing as he didn't know javi drowned, and thought they had killed him.

I ADORE chrissy chlapecka! She’s like. The embodiment of what I adore in pop music - she gives me Britney Spears blackout/circus era. Her fashion, her style - it’s everything. I adore her voice - that baby voice vocal fry my British ass could never hope to achieve.

I think she’s underrated atm, like in that musical space where you give it like. Two years and she’ll realise like. The underground album of the year. Very exciting artist to me. Slayyter occupies sort of the same space, but she’s on the come-up i think. I’m guessing u know slayyter tho - not rly similar to Chrissy but in the3 same vague area. I have two wolves inside of me - one listens to Chrissy Chlapecka and charli xcx and Dorian Electra, the other listens to Pulp and The Smiths. Lmao. (I guess I listen to like. Everything tho. I’m full of musical wolves.)

Also this is is like. Horribly unrelated to Chrissy Chlapecka but my two recommendations that I now feel I absolutely must mention whenever talking abt anything remotely music related even when literally no one asked - pls pls pls listen to like. Mother Earth’s Plantasia. It’s an album for plants and it is so beautiful. You can feel the love Mort Garson had for his plants through it. Very special to me, dream vinyl tbh. And Master Peace - such a wonderful new upcoming British artist. I feel like I’m always mentioning him bc his music is just SO good. I actually think Akali is still human! An interesting thing to note is that out of all the Blood Moon skin descriptions, Akali’s is one of the few that doesn’t explicitly state that she has merged with a demon as her “present” or default canon.

Priestesses of the Blood Moon walk their own path, traveling far from the cult to pursue the whispers of their demons. A meditative figure living deep in the snow-dusted wood, Akali was the first woman to embrace her inner darkness, and speak directly with the Blood Moon itself.

The last part talks about something special within her that made it possible to have a connection strong enough with the Blood Moon to the point that she was able to speak to it. In my head, there is darkness that the cultists cultivate within themselves to be able to worship such a destructive entity. Who in their right mind would think that it would be a wonderful idea to be possessed by a demon? In one of my latest posts, I wrote a Blood Moon reply for Han and in it, I said Akali set out on the journey ordained by the Blood Moon but did not accept the first offer of merging she received, nor the second, nor the third. In fact, she rejected every single demon that came up to her, wanting her flesh and blood. It has partly to do with her thinking none of them are worthy enough to claim her as theirs.

Most of the Blood Moon skins make it clear that the characters have already formed a pact with their respective demons. Examples include:

Elise has so wholly intertwined her body with her demon spirit that they are now a single entity.

(Katarina) An honored priestess of the Blood Moon cult, merged with the flesh of her demon as all priestesses are fated to be.

Then there is one that at least implies he has become involved with a demon.

(Shen) …executing interlopers with a cool dispassion, suggesting part of his humanity has already been consumed.

And in terms of splash arts, Akali’s mask is moved to the side enough to show how human her face still is. Other splash arts have malevolent auras surrounding the champions, the characters’ eyes and masks have an unnatural glow, or the mask is fully fixed onto their faces, signifying their lost humanity.

Now, will Akali ever want to merge at all? I’ve been playing with the idea that she doesn’t ever plan on merging. I haven’t completely decided if it’s a result of her refusing to accept any other being as her equal or if it’s her outright challenging the Blood Moon, thus giving another meaning to “…walk their own path.” Either way, it would mean her equivalent of flying too close to the sun. Because what exactly did she say to the Blood Moon? And what did it tell her in return? Akali was never the type of character to willingly and completely put herself at the mercy of another entity. There’s a lot of creative freedom permitted just from this piece of ambiguous information.

When Han and I were talking about Evelynn and Akali merging, she said that if Akali will not merge with a demon and risk the wrath of the Blood Moon, then Evelynn will forcefully bind their souls together in order to keep the cycle of reincarnation* going. Because otherwise, the Blood Moon will destroy Akali’s soul.

* I say reincarnation because Han and I have Base -> BM -> Modern verses tied together.

Hm… I really love the deer skull (it was part of a full skeleton, I once had most of the bones & they hung from my bedroom ceiling by fishing wire however I’ve moved since then) that I found with my Grammy back when she & I explored haunted spots together. We went to this spot in the woods in search of spiritual activity, supposedly used by cultists & demon worshippers & happened upon this perfect deer skeleton. It’s a beloved memory. (My Grammy & I are still close she’s just a bit too old to do much haunted exploration these days).

I have a handful of other interesting trinkets with fun stories behind them.

But my MOST prized I would have to say is the plastic toy spider I found while Geocaching in the famous tunnels under Bobby Mackey’s with some of my favorite people in the world. It’s bittersweet because I don’t talk to everyone in this memory these days but it’s such a remnant of a period in my life of adventuring with a beloved group of friends. He lives on a stone flame statue that was once part of a gravestone (different story) on my nightstand & aside from his fun haunted potential he just… reminds me of a time in my life that I’m very nostalgic about 🖤

Yeah. The deer skull is a close second & I have a handful of other really neat trinkets I’m fond of but I DO love the spider & that reminder of such a fun & adventurous time in my life & people I care about deeply & think of often even if life has gotten so much more complicated since that simple time.

2. Describe their tent set-up (outside and inside) (Peri)

I think Peri's tent is constructed similarly to Gale and Astarion's (boxy, fabric walls, little covered area outside). Deep blue fabric w/ golden astronomical embroidery, mostly the sort of thing you see on star maps. Little golden tassles around the edges of the tarp (?) and the doorframe. He'd have a small, circular, dark wood side table short enough that you can use it sitting on the ground, and a dark blue pillow next to it; there would be some parchment and a bronze miniature astrolabe on the table. The inside would be just. full to the brim with the gaudiest night-sky-themed pillows you've ever seen. No bedroll, no palette, just a nest that would put those cube pits in trampoline parks to shame. There would be two bird perches for his familiar Medani: one taller one next to his tent and one shorter one under the overhang. The shorter one would have a crow-sized bow-tie hanging from it. Rugs on rugs on the outside area ofc. 3. What would their character quest be titled? Why? (Peri)

This is a hard one! His tav ending involves taking over the Waterdeep arm of the Harpers, so I think his arc would have something to do with that. He'd be pretty bitter about being dropped into another near-apocalyptic mess when dealing with the last one a few years prior was supposed to be a one-time thing. Something-something ptsd in a world that doesn't have the words for that yet, something-something 'once a hero always a hero', something-something the weight of responsibility...he's a planeswalker so I think part of it would be whether he decides to stay on Toril long-term and directly help rebuild the Waterdeep Harpers or if he continues to run travel around afterwards, so maybe The Far Traveller/The Far Walker?

Harpson/Fae-son are also potential options. "Fae-son" nods to him being a changeling without it being super obvious (like Astarion's "The Pale Elf"). It would also mimic his backstory reveals from RoT ("oh he's not 'from here' so, like, the Feywild" -> "OH he's not from here"). 7. Describe their arc. How would a player help resolve it? What choices can be made? Can your Tav be turned down a dark path, or pulled to a lighter one? (Diodore)

Buckle up because we're in for a long one here. I've thought about Dora's story arc a lot because she's the first of my tavs that I truly made for the game while having full control over her backstory, etc. (versus Corentin, who had their arc baked into the story as a durge). Dora's a paladin of Corellon (oath of ancients) and her story arc as a companion would have to do with whether or not she should accept capital-r-Redemption, the process by which a drow can be truly "freed" from Lolth and rejoin the ranks of the rest of elven society. It involves all of the Redeemed drow's memories being erased and them being reincarnated as a surface elf. The implication seems to be that without that, regardless of a drow's actions, they'd be thrown back to Lolth when they die? Or at least that their eternal fate is unknown (which is the way I prefer to think of it for. personal reasons). Under normal circumstances, Dora would be a long way from Redemption being presented to her at all (she's not even 200 yet and has only been on the surface for a couple decades), but like with the other gods' Chosen among the companions, near-apocalyptic circumstances tend to speed up those sorts of things.

Of course, you'd have the themes of faith & relationship with deity when they're all unequivocally real and are also mostly all assholes; maintaining or breaking generational cycles; facing the unknown; morality when none of your choices are "good" (and how that interacts with morality vs self preservation); power vs freedom; identity outside of the people who made you; etc. The choice would first be presented to her sometime in late Act I/early Act II, likely the first long rest after the group resurfaces from the Underdark and you've probably gotten some of her backstory already. I have no idea how Larian would have characterized Corellon, but he's considered one of the more benevolent/open-minded deities iirc, which could be interesting to see contrasted with Mystra, Vlaa'kith, and Shar. How much that open-mindedness would extend to a drow, even one who has been a faithful follower even before she escaped to the Surface (and who inherited that faith from her father), is unclear. At the beginning of the game she would be leaning towards accepting Redemption, despite her own misgivings about whether or not she would still be her in that case.

Her final decision (at the ending pier scene) would depend on the relationship she has with the PC and the other companions. Her best ending, imo, would be her not accepting Redemption but continuing to be a force for good. If she has a good relationship with the PC, she would have something to lose. I think seeing the House of Mourning would affect her too. After all, the thing Corellon is offering to her as a way to find peace is the same thing the Sharrans are using as a way to manipulate and control others.

She's viscerally aware of how she was socialized and very actively chooses "good", so pushing her towards a darker path would be incredibly difficult but not impossible. If you side with the goblins she'll leave immediately, and turn on you if she's in your party when you attack the grove. But if you decide to try and control the cult in Act II, depending on your over-all actions before then and how you've interacted with her, you could disillusion her to the point of convincing her to break her oath. That path would entail convincing her that controlling the cult is actually the best idea. I'm sure there would be other times that her oath could break that wouldn't necessarily lock her into an "evil" path, especially with how Oathbreakers are handled in the game. Knocking out Minthara instead of killing her outright and letting Auntie Ethel go in Act I instead of killing her are two things that come to mind.

If she doesn't choose Redemption she would be at the epilogue party, of course. I'm a bit undecided on what would happen if she does choose Redemption. She may not be there at all, w/ Jaheira, Halsin, Minthara, and/or Astarion mentioning running into her in her new, reincarnated state. Or she would be there, confused, and mention how the PC seems familiar in a way she can't quite place. In that case, she would ask them how they know each other and mention something about feeling a twinge of grief looking at everyone, but that she doesn't know why she feels that way. It would be up to the PC how much they tell her (if they tell her anything at all).

i like to think he came back exactly how he was before his breakdown girlboss warcrime moment, so in his 50s, greying, bad knee and shoulder from ignoring his injuries from mongul, no job no friends no money no ring etc.

The thing that always bugs me the most about post-parallax hal is that they (Geoffrey) just fucking ignored helen. like where did she go. she's all of what eight years old just lost her parents, has abandonment issues, stuck in the middle of fucking. idk utah was it??? ALONE???? anyways i like to ignore canon and pretend that hal just kept on keeping on with helen, no powers, just doing his best to keep them afloat with odd jobs and shit.

I think that him being a regular guy again adds some extra pain and despair into the story if you just pick up where Spectre (2001) ends off, because hal Knows he doesn't look stable enough to raise a kid by himself but he Just promised to never give helen up and he wants to be there for her So Fucking Bad , and now that he's an actual people again he has to deal with shit like being legally alive again and custody paperwork and proving himself competent to child services i have thought about this a normal amount
