More lore!! This time we're taking a look at one of the religions in Galruk!! :D
Just like last time, kind of a long post, so be warned <3
I envision Galruk as a very frigid environment; freezing temps, brutal storms, a rocky soil make it difficult to sustain life. I am VERY LOOSELY basing the climate on real world areas in northern Canada, Greenland, Siberia, and Iceland. I think having this info might be important for some of the religious beliefs I'm establishing.
Galrukans tend to hold a deep respect for the land, and thus they worship deities more akin to nature spirits, or personifications of nature. Galrukans worship three major deities: Wyny, Lord of the Skies, Helmann, Lord of the Seas, and Ida, Lady of the Lands. They believe that these lords were created by the Weaver of Worlds, a powerful, ancient, incorporeal being often referred to simply as the Weaver. From the scraps left over from the lords' creation formed a being called Calamity, the evil spirit of chaos and misfortune. When the Weaver created the Four Winds to act as servants to the lords, Calamity sneakily followed them to the Overworld, where it proceeded to destroy everything the lords were building.
Outraged, the lords sought to imprison Calamity for its crimes, during the fight however Calamity took hold of Ida, its mere touch inflicting chaos and corruption within her, from which came Ingrid, the Lady of Frost, a being of chaos in her own right who was infinitely loyal to Calamity. At once, Helmann and Wyny fell still as Ingrid's frost overtook them, and in the interim Calamity nearly wiped out all life in the Overworld. After 6 months, however, Ingrid thawed, and Ida returned in her place, and at once the other Lords reanimated. The three of them together were easily able to overpower Calamity, keeping it bay for another 6 months until frost overtook Ida's heart once more and Ingrid returned, and the cycle continued evermore.
The lords are hailed as guardians of the natural world, responsible for breathing life into and maintaining the skies, seas, and lands respectively. It is widely accepted that hunting and farming success are boons of Ida, fishing success and safe seafaring are boons of Helmann, and forgiving weather and kind winds are boons of Wyny. The Weaver is hailed as the personification of the metaphysical, and it is common among Galrukan witches and other magic users that it was the Weaver who wove magic into their very beings. Ingrid and Calamity are considered symbols of death and trickery, and they are not worshipped so much as they are feared, Galrukans believing that if they appease the spirits they will be spared hardship in the harsh winter.
There are only a few religious holidays celebrated by this faith. Ingridagr is a somber holiday that takes place on the first snow of the winter season, people mourning Ida’s “death” and praying to be spared from Calamity. This day also acts as a day of remembrance to those who have died, and is often spent fasting. Some communities light funeral pyres and hold memorials on behalf of Ida and the lords. Idadagr, in contrast, is a lively celebration that takes place on the first day of spring, people rejoicing at Ida and the Lords’ return. This is usually a day taken to feast and celebrate one’s community, joyful to have survived another year. Kivik is almost exclusively celebrated by witches, and is held in honor of the Weaver for gifting mortals access to the weave. This is typically celebrated either on the winter solstice or on the first full moon following the solstice, varying by community, and often consists of large feasts and bonfires, sometimes shows of magical prowess are featured and sometimes elders in the community will take this time to tell stories and share what they've learned with the new generations.
#rahhh i love worldbuilding#fantasy religions my beloved#just like my last post i consider this kind of the main religious beliefs in Galruk#there are definitely others and there are branching cults dedicated to each of the spirits but this is kinda like. the prime yknow?#haven't fleshed out anything else yet unfortunately </3#snek speaks#snek's rewrite!#aphmau#minecraft diaries#aphmau minecraft diaries#galruk#worldbuilding#fantasy worldbuilding#religion#fantasy religion

Not sure how much people will care, but I've been having fun fleshing out the world of MCD for my rewrite, and part of that has included creating totally new religious systems for the different areas in the world, because why tf would everyone have the same religious beliefs lol
I've already made quite a few posts about the Divine Warriors, and the associated faith common in Ru'an, so I'm not gonna get into that right now unless people ask me to. Instead, I wanna talk a little about one of the religions common in Tula :3
Slightly long post lol sorry, be warned
For a little context, I have built Tula as a very dry, arid region with a lot of desert regions. I am VERY LOOSELY basing the climate on real world areas in ancient Africa and the Middle East. I think having this info might be important for some of the religious beliefs I'm establishing.
Anyways, many Tulanis worship personifications of celestial bodies, primarily the Sun, the Moon, and their four children Dawn, Day, Dusk, and Night. They are beings that are said to have existed since the beginning of time, and that should they ever die all life on the Overworld with end.
The Sun is worshipped as the king of the universe, who ruled over all the stars and planets and peoples. He provided life and light, but at the same time the endless day left the people of the Overworld dying of heat and exhaustion, unable to find respite from the king's light. His love, the Moon, saw their plight, and begged her lover to show them mercy. He refused, believing that doing so would be an unfair act of favoritism. The Moon then went to their children, who sympathized with her and the peoples of the Overworld, and, lead by Dawn, the eldest, they started a rebellion against the Sun.
The war lasted for centuries, both father and children too stubborn and too prideful to give in. As the war reached it's peak, the heat of battle nearly wiped out everything in the cosmos, and at last they reach an armistice. The Sun offered a compromise: instead of providing less sunlight, he would only rule the Overworld for half of the day, and the Moon would rule the other half. So it was said, and so it would be done.
Each morning, Dawn and Day would escort the Sun to his throne and keep watch during his rule, and each evening Dusk and Night would escort the Moon to her throne and keep watch during her rule.
The Sun is associated with light, life, and order, due to his role as the life-giving sunlight and king of the cosmos. The Moon is associated with death and tides, a perfect opposite of her husband and the creator of the seas. Dawn is associated with war as she lead the rebellion against the Sun, Day is associated with life and nature as many Tulanis believe it is her guidance and supervision during the Sun's rule that allows the continued survival of all life, Dusk is associated with magic and knowledge as many Tulanis believe she allows mortals a glimpse into the infinite wisdom of the cosmos, and Night is associated with trickery and deception as the darkness of night is often blinding and misleading.
There are many religious holidays celebrated across Tula, the most holy of which are the Feast of the Sun and the Feast of the Moon, celebrated on the summer solstice and winter solstice respectively. They are representative of the beginning of the Sun's rule, on the longest day of the year, and the beginning of the Moon's rule, on the longest night of the year. As the names would suggest these times are often spent feasting and celebrating, giving thanks to both for the gifts they have given the people of the Overworld. Similarly, many regions celebrate the first rain of the cool season, usually referred to as the Day of the Lady’s Tears in reference to the belief that the Moon wept on the very first night, flooding the earth and providing much needed water for mortals. Eclipses, though rare, are also regarded as holy, the common belief being that an eclipse is a symbol of the Sun and the Moon reuniting after the war.
Ashkah is a somber, week long remembrance of the cosmic war, during which people are encouraged to take time to reflect and spend time with their loved ones, both living and dead. It serves as a reminder that times of hardship are tests of inner strength, and are always fleeting. It is common practice to seek forgiveness of wrongdoing during this time, both from your neighbor and from the gods. Many people choose to burn candles, an additional candle for each day of the week, to represent the many centuries wasted warring; particularly devout believers might chose to fast as well. The final day of Ashkah is called Aleh, and is celebrated as a holiday in its own right. Aleh is a festival celebrating the end of the war and the cosmic armistice. It also acts as a celebration for Dawn, Dusk, Day, and Night. During Aleh many people hold huge community-wide feasts, candles are all doused and revelry often extends well into the night, sometimes even into the next day.
#less happy with this than I am with Galruk (coming later) but i like it for now :)#just to clarify as well this isn't the only religion in Tula just like the Faith of the Divine isn't the only religion in Ru'an#there are many different belief systems and different cults branching off of this#this is just the most common set of beliefs#I'll be workshopping more at some point I'm sure#if you have any questions about this though please feel free to ask!!#i have been doing a LOT of wroldbuilding lately lol so I could definitely use an excuse to yap about this#snek speaks#snek's rewrite!#aphmau#minecraft diaries#aphmau minecraft diaries#worldbuilding#fantasy worldbuilding#fantasy world#religion#fantasy religion#tula#tulani religion

back with the shadow knight posting. if i've posted any of this before. uh. no i didn't <3
shadow knights are revived souls inhabiting new bodies constructed from the raw materials of the nether, ie brimstone, ash, molten rock, etc.
their actual bodies are very nebulous in their construction, able to change form on a whim and only really held together by the soul that inhabits them. Their "normal form" is based on each individual shadow knight's self perception, the mortal mind automatically trying to recreate what it knows.
Because their bodies are held together by their minds/souls, they are able to regrow any body part should it be severed, although the process is often slow and painful. The process can be expedited if the shadow knight is currently in the nether, although the extra speed can come with immense extra pain
a shadow knight's soul is contained in their minds/heads, which makes the only way to kill a shadow knight to destroy it's head. As long as the head remains intact, a shadow knight can regrow their entire body from scratch if need be. this makes them virtually immortal, aside from one other thing:
the mortal mind is not meant to withstand centuries of living. eventually, every shadow knight will begin to lose their sense and become unstable. an unstable mind creates an unstable body, making them both incredibly dangerous yet incredibly vulnerable
a shadow knight that has lost all sense is commonly referred to as a husk by other, sane, shadow knights. they have lost pretty much all semblance of humanity, making them wild and unpredictable like a zombie, or a wild animal.
husks often lose their ability to regrow their bodies. Even if they retain the ability, it is a significantly slower process that can only happen when the raw materials are present, ie pretty much only in the nether
there is no known way of returning sanity to a husk, and many consider it a fate worse than any death. It is perhaps the one unifying fear common in shadow knights.
#been having thoughts#wish shadow knight lore was expanded on more in canon but fineeee i'll do it myself <3#aphmau#minecraft diaries#aphmau minecraft diaries#mcd#snek speaks#snek's rewrite!#shadow knights#minecraft diaries rewrite#minecraft diaries headcanons

I really love making the Divine Warriors relevant in my rewrite, even if none of them are present :3
Been thinking about how making the DW all foils of each other could be fun from a lore perspective, and maybe something that could even tie into worldbuilding and religion? idk lol was just having fun
I think for the DW, they would be more so ideological foils if that makes sense? Like rather than their characters, it's their domains and the things they represent that mirror each other:
Irena/Shad, life vs death, creation vs. destruction
Aenia/Menphia, the peacekeeper vs the warmonger, forgiveness vs fury
Esmund/Kebek, community vs independence, selflessness vs selfishness
Kulzak/Enki, wild impulse vs self control, nature vs nurture
Roska/Absol, structure vs fluidity, practicality vs artistry
Similarly, I thought it would be fun if the Jo9 were all foils of each other, since from both a lore and storytelling perspective the jurors are meant to be representative of the Divines. Unlike the DW however, the jury's foils are based more on the actual characters and roles in the story:
Zane/Aaron, unstoppable force vs immovable object, a killer vs the lone survivor
Katelyn/Della, the one who got away vs the one who couldn't, rebellion vs compliance
Jeffory/Edric, man who would die for his family vs man who would kill for his family
Janus/Ivan, chaos vs control, brute force vs careful manipulation
Ivy/Teony, constant change vs maintaining the status quo,
#as per usual idk if this makes literally any sense but oh well#aphmau#minecraft diaries#aphmau minecraft diaries#snek's rewrite!#zane ro'meave#aaron lycan#aphmau katelyn#katelyn the firefist#jeffory the golden heart#aphmau jeffory#janus the silver death#aphmau janus#aphmau ivan#ivy the venom scythe#aphmau ivy#aphmau teony#oc#ocs#original character#original characters#irene the matron#shad the destroyer#esmund the protector#menphia the fury#enki the keeper#kul'zak the wanderer#divine warriors#aphmau divine warriors#jury of nine

Edric, the Wolf's Bane
Another one of my ancient MCD ocs <3
Edric is a middle aged man, probably in his mid-late 30s, with fair skin and dark hair and eyes. He's tall and has a broad build. He's a werewolf, and his wolf form has dark fur the same color as his hair. He has a long scar stretching from the bridge of his nose to part way down his neck.
He comes from humble farmer roots, hailing from a rural town in the south of Ru'an. Growing up, he had his parents and his three brothers, one older and two younger. In his late teens he was attacked by a lone werewolf, and he himself was inflicted with lycanthropy. He kept it hidden for as long as possible but his family eventually found out, and out of fear and misplaced hate they kicked him to the streets. The other villagers treated him just as harshly, until he eventually left his hometown to wander aimlessly across Ru'an.
He grew bitter and hateful in his isolation, finding cruel treatment seemingly wherever he went. Eventually he found himself far in the north, at the outer walls of O'khasis. He was offered sanctuary, and he readily accepted.
While in O'khasis he met Corrinne, a low-ranking O'khasian noble. He was enamored by her, and mistook her pity for sympathy. They pair was married by the end of the year, and had a child a mere year later.
With a good word from Corrinne, Edric was inducted into the Jury shortly after Zane was ordained, and as a way to support his family and not let his wife's efforts go to waste he dutifully followed whatever orders were given to him. He continued serving faithfully long after Zane was presumed dead, all the way up to Tu'la's invasion of O'khasis. He was killed in the fray, loyal to his nation and family until the very end.
#my idiot asshole son#ill probably post a lil smth about corrinne and their daughter and some point but i don't think it'll be any time soon#aphmau#minecraft diaries#aphmau minecraft diaries#snek's rewrite!#oc#original character#werewolf#werewolf character#jury of nine#jo9

Della, the Blessed Seer
Della is one of my ancient MCD ocs who I'm making canon to my rewrite :) since it seems like i'm in a "Talking about my rewrite" mood, particularly the jury, figured I might as well tell yall a lil about her.
She's a young woman, probably in her early 20s, with tanned skin and dark hair and green eyes. She's short in stature and has an average build. She typically wears a headscarf for religious reasons, like many others in her deeply religious hometown. It was a happy accident that her headscarf also covers up her pointed ears, a trait inherited from her witch father.
She was born with a natural inclination towards magic, also thanks to her witch ancestry, and most prominently she began receiving prophetic visions in early childhood. Her mother told her that she was blessed by Enki, god of magic, but that she needed to keep it a secret. Della took her mother's word, doing her best to keep her powers hidden. All good things must come to an end however, and her secret was revealed when she had a prophecy of her mother's death, and tried everything she could to prevent it to no avail; in her grief, she revealed everything, gift of prophecy included.
Word traveled fast across Ru'an, and before long the then-High Priest of Irena offered her a position in the Jury, saying she could help countless people with her prophecies. Scared and now alone, she accepted, and became the youngest ever Juror.
Zane took over the position as High Priest shortly after Della's own induction into the Jury, and seeing the benefit of having a prophet in the Jury, allowed her to stay. Being so young, she was easy for the O'khasian upper class to manipulate, and as such she would follow whatever orders given to her, too afraid of being accused of treason and being executed as a traitor. She served the Jury under Zane for many years, until one day Zane left O'khasis and never returned.
He was presumed dead, and just as Della had feared the outraged people of O'khasis branded her as a traitor to her nation, claiming the she was either a fraud, or had prophesized Zane's disappearance and deliberately didn't say anything. Mass hysteria overcame the people, and to appease them, she was publicly executed not even a month after Zane's presumed death.
#all of this is subject to change as I continue fleshing out her and the story and her role in the story lmao#but for now I wanted to give yall a lil context :3#a peak into the inner machinations of my mind#gonna be posting one for edric later on so if you're interested keep your eyes peeled!!!#aphmau#minecraft diaries#aphmau minecraft diaries#snek's rewrite!#oc#original character#jury of nine#jo9
