Hi my lovely humans! I'm back with another oneshot which is very overdue, considering I haven't done one in A WHILE.

This oneshot was inspired by this post thread from the lovely @tys-kitty (hi bestie <3) and the lovely @mayaheronthorn and @queenie-blackthorn and as soon as I saw this I was like. Yes. I have to write it. It's happening. So here I am ;)

Ty awoke to a sharp pain in his side.

For a second he panicked, blinking sleep out of his eyes as he tried to adjust to the pitch black around him. He was in the Institute, so there shouldn’t be anything trying to attack him, right?? And yet, he knew that wasn’t necessarily true. It had happened before, when he was only a child. He stuck his hand into his pocket and pulled out his witchlight, and it flared to life around him. And immediately, he relaxed again. There was nothing there, only Kit, who was sleeping next to him. He realized vaguely that Kit had elbowed him. 

He also realized they were far closer than they had been when they’d fallen asleep last night.

He didn’t really get the chance to dwell on it, however, because Kit made a noise in his sleep. A whimper. And he thrashed, his limbs splaying out as he did so.

So that was how Kit had managed to elbow him, Ty thought wryly. Then he frowned. 

Was Kit having a nightmare?

He was, wasn’t he?

Something inside Ty, some part of him that he had always tried to ignore, kicked into gear. He shifted over, sitting back on his knees next to Kit. And he grabbed Kit’s shoulders and shook him as gently as he could.

“Kit, wake up,” Ty whispered. “It’s just a dream. Wake up.”

Kit’s eyes flew open and he moved so quickly that Ty fell back, scrambling away to give Kit space. Kit’s breathing was too fast, and very loud. He sounded like he’d just run a mile, or just been in a fight. Ty wanted so badly to reach out and put his hand on Kit’s chest, and feel his heartbeat as his breathing slowed, to help him calm down. Livvy used to do that for him whenever he was overwhelmed.

“Ty….?” Kit whispered into the darkness. Ty realized he’d dropped his witchlight. He felt around in the dark until he found it again. Kit winced when the bright light shone into his eyes.

“Yes?” Ty responded. He warily moved closer. Kit flinched. He stopped moving. “Are you okay? Was it…did you have a nightmare?”

Kit took a shuddering breath and nodded, his breathing still rapid and uneven. Then he made a choked sound, and Ty realized he was crying.

Kit…crying? Ty’s stomach dropped and he felt his own throat tighten. Kit wasn’t supposed to cry. He…he was supposed to be strong, to be happy. Ty couldn’t stand it. He had to do something.

Almost impulsively he slid over to be next to Kit, so close that their legs were touching. Ty put one hand on Kit’s chest, feeling his heartbeat and took Kit’s hand with the other hand. 

“Breathe, Kit,” He said softly. He felt Kit’s heart skip a beat. It wasn’t slowing down. Why wasn’t it slowing down?

“I—I saw my father,” Kit murmured. “I saw him die. Those—those demons that killed him—And my mother was there. I somehow….I somehow knew how she’d died. I—” He broke off and choked out another sob. Ty squeezed his hand.

“Tell me what I can do to help you, Kit,” Ty said, because now he was scared. He had never been good at comforting people. What if he was only making things worse? “Tell me what you need. Please, Kit.”

“You,” Kit blurted out. “I just need you. Just…stay with me. Please.”

“Me?” Ty sputtered. “Are you sure?”

At that, Kit pulled back. He held Ty’s gaze, which made Ty’s cheeks flush bright pink. He usually couldn’t stand making eye contact with people, but with Kit, he liked it because it meant he could study Kit’s eyes. Kit had beautiful eyes. They were a beautiful blue, and he was constantly getting lost in them.

“I’ve always needed you, Tiberius,” Kit whispered. He put his other hand, the one that Ty wasn’t clinging to, over Ty’s hand on his chest. 

Ty’s heart started beating rapidly, not unlike Kit’s. He tightened his grip on Kit’s hand. “But then…why…” He swallowed, as his voice trailed off. He could hear his voice wavering. “Why did you leave?”

Kit opened his mouth. Then he closed it. He looked away from Ty, and Ty’s heart sank. He could see Kit starting to withdraw, to close himself off from Ty. Like he did that first time. Ty’s whole body ached as he remembered how hopeless and lost that had made him.

Not again, Kit, please. Ty thought to himself. I can’t lose you again. I love you.

“Kit, please,” Ty said aloud.

Kit hesitated. Then he sighed. “Because…I couldn’t be around you. It was too much.”

Ty flinched. Kit noticed and frowned. He squeezed Ty’s hand. Ty clung to Kit’s, afraid he was going to let go. But he didn’t.

“I was…angry. And sad…and embarrassed.” Kit admitted. He let go of Ty’s other hand on his chest to run his fingers through his hair. Ty noticed that Kit seemed kind of shaky. Almost like he was nervous.

“And I just felt like…you didn’t need me…so why was I even there?” Kit added, his voice slow and quiet, like he was forcing himself to say it aloud. “It felt like I needed you so much that I couldn’t breathe…and you didn’t even want me.”

Ty sucked in a breath. Kit…Kit thought he wasn’t wanted?? How was that possible?? Kit was incredible…how could he think he wasn’t wanted??

“Of course I wanted you,” Ty said, like it was obvious. “Kit, how could you think that??”

Kit let out a shaky laugh. “That’s…that’s not what I meant. I—”

“You told me you loved me,” Ty interrupted in a whisper, not unkindly. 

“Yeah,” The other boy whispered. “Yeah, I did. Er…”

“You don’t anymore?” Ty asked him. His lip quivered. He had thought—

“No! No, yes. Yes. Wait, no. I mean–” Kit stuttered, his face turning red. “I do. I still do.”

“You do?” Hope flared up in Ty’s chest. He felt the beginning of a rare smile appear on his face. 

Kit looked sheepish. “I never stopped, Ty. I love you, still. I tried to stop…I tried so hard, you have no idea…but you mean too much to me. It’s always been you, Tiberius Blackthorn.” Kit stared down at their interlaced hands.

Ty blinked, and found that his eyes had filled with tears. He hadn’t even noticed. He let them fall, because he needed to say what he wanted to say before he lost the nerve to. Or before he lost the chance. “I love you, Kit.”

Kit stared at him. “You do?”

“Yes,” Ty said. “I do. I love you. You have no idea how much. I’m not even sure I know how much. I just know that you’ve always been different from anyone else in my life. I always want to know what you’re thinking, I always want to hear your voice. You manage to make me laugh, to make me feel things I’ve never felt before. And you’re incredible, Kit. You really, truly are. I’m lucky to have known you, and I never want to lose you.”

Kit was silent. For a second, Ty was worried that Kit was upset with him, but then he smiled and Ty felt a warm, soft feeling go through him.

Both of them were crying by this point, but neither seemed to care. Ty pulled Kit towards him, putting his arm around Kit’s waist and holding him tightly. Kit’s shirt, which was a sky blue AC/DC shirt, was soft against Ty’s face. Kit’s arms went around him and he felt so, so happy, he couldn’t put it into words or coherent thoughts.

All Ty could think about was that he had Kit back, and he was never letting him go. Ever.

Kit looks up at the mirror and smiles. When Dru had come to him with a bottle of hair dye he had been very skeptical, but it looked good on him if he said so himself.

He walks out of the bathroom to model his new hair for Dru herself, who had put purple streaks in her hair before they dyed his to show him it wasn't a big deal. "It looks just like I pictured it! Ty is going to love it, I'm sure!"

Kit blushes at the exclamation and rubs the back of his neck. "I sure hope so. Remember our deal if he doesn't though."

Dru rolls her eyes at him. "Yeah yeah, we'll dye it back if it's too much for your boyfriend." She smiles. "You really do look good though, I think my brother is gonna love it."

Kit smiles, a little reassured. He definitely wouldn't mind keeping it for a few months if Ty liked it, his opinion was important to Kit after all.

Kit and Ty used to be best friend, until something went horribly wrong between them, though no one is sure what.

Now, three years later, Kit moves in with his new family back to the States, just to find out he is neighbors with the Blackthorns now.

As they try to figure out if they want to be friends again or not, the Mayor of town, more known as the Queen, sets in motion a threatening scheme, putting in danger people they care about.

Or more like. Friends to (strangers to It's Complicated to friends again to Thirsting Hours to) Lovers. But ok.

OMG WHO’S POV CAN WE EXPECT??? LIVVY’S??!

 Amanda: When you say that "Also I'm working on not overwhelming people with so many POVs. :)" is a TLKoF, will it be a story with just the POV of the 3 protagonists? We already know that Ash and Jaime won't have POV in this first book, so will it just be Ty, Dru and Kit?

I can think of at least one other POV that's in there. :) I would say it's too early to say definitely — entire POVs and characters can be removed or added in editing. But there won't be the eight or so POVs there were in TLH (and I'm not knocking multiple POVs, it just varies depending on the needs of the story, and I'm just talking about book One.)

ty just naturally gravitating towards kit and being near him in any given situation is something that can be so personal,

what really bothers me about Kit/Ty is that the split between them is not as equal as everyone acts like it is. honestly the blame largely rests on Kit, and no one talks about that.

“but Ty is the one who tried to raise the dead!”

okay, yes, but let’s get one thing clear: he did not know that Kit was actually against that until the very last second. Kit willingly led him into thinking that it was a good action. Sure, Kit only did that because he thought Ty needed blind support, and thought that Ty would come to the right conclusion on his own. But he never told him. And let’s not forget that Ty is autistic, and for many of autistic or neurodivergent people in general, Ty included, words and actions will be taken at face value.

Ty wasn’t looking for a secret belief that Kit held. Because if he didn’t agree with raising Livvy, why wouldn’t he just say so? But Kit didn’t. So Ty really believed that Kit was with him until the last moment. He believed that he was doing a good thing for his family.

And then Kit pulled the whole “I love you” moment. Which Ty didn’t get to properly respond to—because really, how are you supposed to suddenly process a bombshell like that in the middle of RAISING YOUR SISTER FROM THE DEAD.

And then Kit disappeared. Just. Left. Sure, it was because he was embarrassed for the love confession, but imagine how that felt for Ty. He just dropped a love bomb and left because Ty didn’t respond right. Which is a dick move. Even if it was out of self preservation.

Do you ever find yourself just sitting and thinking about how hard it must have been to write a family of seven siblings and make them all unique and interesting, yet give them these similar threads that tie them back to one another. And like not only did cassie succeed in that, but all the blackthorns literally go so hard?? Mark being the lost son who doesn’t know how to be who people want him to be and Julian being the boy who had to grow up too fast who’s whole life is his siblings, and when he tries to reach for something that’s just for him it ends up being catastrophic. We’ve got Livvy, the heart of the family and their true north, and Ty, who can’t imagine navigating the world without her. There’s Dru, desperate to be taken seriously and treated like an adult, and Tavvy, who’s younger than his years because of his trauma. Half these characters don’t even have POVs and yet they’re all so alive to me. Forget warlocks and faeries, this right here is the real magic of TDA.

Does this mean that Livvy regularly goes to see Kit? I wonder if Ty knows or if she just sneaks around with it? This also just makes me wonder what kind of hurt we will see Ty going through when we get his POV in TWP? Remember this moment in GOTSM:

Ty said, "No one chooses this life." He had put down his pen. He sounded as if he were somewhere far away. Livvy didn't think he was talking about the Scholomance.

I just need them to all be ok and happy by the end of TWP. Preferably happy and ok by the end of TLKOF, then they can just be cool solving mysteries and saving the world for the rest of the two books :)
