Hudson was the type of man who always walked around as if he owned the room he was in. The specific location didn’t matter at all. Now, however, reprising his role as dutiful boyfriend to his former in-laws, he felt invincible. “I always knew they fucking loved me.” It wasn’t like he hadn’t tried to get them to, but it was always a good stroke to his ego. Even if it came after a brutal breakup. “Maybe we should improve our game, though…” His voice dropped slightly; just for the dramatics of the situation, it wasn’t like they were close enough to anyone else to be heard. “Want me to grab your ass? Pretty sure that’s still a favorite of yours.” He teased. He’d been on board for the performance; that much was true, but he’d never promised to behave.

“You know what? If I didn’t know you any better, I’d say that you’re really fucking jealous about it.” Hudson was being mean; his voice was sharp, and his gaze was poisonous. That was exactly what he did when he was hurting; he pushed people away and refused to acknowledge his share of responsibility. “I don’t know what got you so upset, though. I thought we weren’t together. So let me see if I get this straight—I’m not allowed to be with you, but I’m not supposed to spend my time with someone else either.” He grinned, an annoyed gesture full of bitterness. “Did I get it right?”
