someone probably said this already but in spiderverse i think it's interesting how when pavitr was first introduced everyone thought something bad was gonna happen to him bc of how confident and optimistic he was. and then in the actual movie we see that something bad was supposed to happen to him (police chief dying!) but it doesn't! miles stops it! and miguel berates miles for this, says it's going to cause the universe to collapse or whatever.

there's this idea that tragedy is inherent to spidermans growth, and while it's true that some spiderpeople learn important lessons through loss, no one stops to ask, is it really necessary? yeah, maybe the chief was supposed to die. but why does spiderman have to be formed through tragedy? why do we (as heroes) have to let people die? pavitr didn't lose anyone, and he's still a good spiderman! maybe, if he doesn't suffer, he'll end up better off for it!

so while miguel is arguing for all this big picture stuff about saving the multiverse he's lost sight of what it really means to be a spiderman, he's not looking out for the real individual people. yeah it's just one person who would die, but that one person means something to someone. shrugging and saying "stuff just sucks sometimes, we can't do anything about it" is the opposite of what superheroes do. pretty obviously, miles arc is also a reflection of the struggles people face in real life, working within unequal systems, where it's easy to shrug and say "that's just the way it is" and not ask "but why does it need be this way? can't we do something about it?"

miguel is arguing that you can't have your cake and eat it too. presumably, miles and co. are going to find a way to get around that and change things for the better (and maybe that's why miles has that line about two cakes in the advisors office!)

Everyone, I present to you an idea.

Imagine Nightmare takes in some version of Frisk (lets say they're like 11-13) much to the horror of his gang. Perhaps Nightmare found them in a white void, alone. They clearly reminded him of his boys, but maybe he also took them in as exposure therapy. Frisk was able to connect with Nightmare the easiest, but the same can't be said with the others.

Killer, Dust, and Axe have separate trauma when it comes to humans, but that didn't deter Frisk. They're a determined human for a reason, so they weren't going to accept defeat. Axe is the first one to grow fond of Frisk from their eagerness to help him cook meals. Frisk would have a lot more trouble befriending Killer and Dust, though.

I'd like to write a fic or something about this in the future. Lmk your thoughts‼️

as much as I do like the Horrors of ford being in the multiverse, I do kinda wish there was more stuff focusing on the good experiences (however few) he had and the friends he made with the knowledge he would never see them again

like, he was close enough to a group of people that he got tattooed with them. he misses dimension 52. and he had to know that both of them would end, sooner or later, because staying in one place increased chances he'd be caught. because, despite all of this, his destiny is to kill bill cipher.

how many favorite books. how many foods that he ate every day until he left and realized oh. I'll never eat that again. how many songs stuck in his head that don't exist. how many words that he wants to use but they don't translate and there's not even something close to their meaning here so he can't even try to explain what he means

whenever i tag things for betsywarren i just need everyone (who reads comics. my comic mutuals) to understand that i love them but only as like. a very fucked up pair. like they were so horribly toxic for each other. i don't ship them in a "they're perfect together" way unless you mean in a "they're so perfectly horrible together" way in which case yes i do. because they're not good for each other. at all. betsy literally taught warren to cage his ocd thoughts in his mind palace. warren just had sex with her when she thought too many bad thoughts. that's not normal. they're not normal. they were HORRIBLE for each other. it's delightful. i need them back together so badly so they can go fucking insane.
