IT'S TWOSDAY!

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I hope you're all having a terrific week so far - and that you're staying nice and cool if you're trapped in a heat dome like I currently am. If you're looking for something to take your mind off the fact that you're melting, here's a few fun recs that I absolutely loved!

Two Series Recs:

Ten Questions (More or Less) - part 1, part 2 & the follow up Learning Curve by @inherstars

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a huge, heart shaped soft spot for Ezra and Cee, and this little series about the weeks following their escape from The Green hit that soft spot like a perfectly aimed arrow. We get to see the two of them get to know one another while processing what they've been through together and finding out what they mean to each other, and it is truly lovely.

I first met this couple in Confetti, the follow up one shot for this series, and I fell in love with them INSTANTLY and the story of how they met has been on my TBR list since then. Well, friends, I'm now changing the in TBR from "read" to "recommended" because *sigh* we could all use some more Marcus Pike in our lives, couldn't we?

Oh my god they were ROOMMATES! This was such a sweet read. Grumpy, achy, (stinky) guarded Joel gets completely caught off guard by a small moment and a small joy. Which in turn brought me a sizeable amount of joy.

Look, I know I prefaced this batch of recs by saying they were good distractions from the oppressive heat and then I go and add this gem to the list... which is legit just... close to 1k words of ******* Frankie's **** ... but it's like how drinking hot beverages in the summer helps cool you off or whatever, right? RIGHT? Idk. All I know is that A) Taxi drivers deserve those tips, especially in this case, and B) Frankie and Reader not even making it two feet inside the door before going at it just feels so appropriate.

Summary:

Sam was making a strong attempt at being as nonchalant as Dean was, but he felt the suffocating weight of anxiety squeezing his chest. An aching worry was burrowing into his gut that it was only a matter of time before one of the deaths stuck. He would lose his brother much sooner than the months he was supposed to have. He swallowed the fear bubbling up like bile that, inevitably, Dean was leaving him this year no matter what he did.

One Tuesday, Sam tries something different in an attempt to keep Dean breathing until Wednesday. Things change between them, but how long will it last?

They made it to 7:00pm, through hours of awful daytime programming, by the time Dean started to complain of hunger.

“I’m not leaving you here. I’m just gonna order pizza.”

“But I want burgers,” Dean whined, half-heartedly struggling against the ropes. “I’ll come with, let you keep an eye on me.”

“Too fucking bad. It’s bed and bathroom, that’s it.”

“Speaking of which…”

Sam sighed and went over to loosen the restraints. Earlier, he had tried to get Dean to use a bottle to piss in but he ranted for too long about dignity over death. “Be careful. Touch nothing but your pants and dick, got it?”

“For fucksake, I know, Sam. Let me piss in peace, will ya?”

“Door open!” Sam shouted while he dialed the local pizza place.

When Dean returned, Sam began tying him up again. He laid there docile, trusting, looking up at Sam. Staring at him, actually. “What?” Sam asked, finishing with Dean’s ankle and sitting on the side of the bed to do his wrist.

“Nothing...you just, know what you’re doing here, that’s all.”

“Of course I do. Dad taught us both how to restrain someone.” Sam tugged the rope tight but not tight enough to be uncomfortable, while avoiding his brother’s gaze.

“Dad didn’t teach us how to tie someone to the bed,” Dean smirked, raising a brow.

Sam scoffed “Shut up.” He walked around to loop the last rope around the other wrist.

“Gentle, but effective.”

“You impressed?” Sam’s turn to smirk.

“Yeah, kinda. Didn’t think you had it in ya.”

Sam shrugged, feeling his chest and neck heat up a bit at the subtle attention to his sexuality. “It’s really not that hard.”

“What other kinky shit do you like, huh Sammy?”

“We’re not talking about my sex life.” His belly somersaulted and he wished Dean would look away from his reddening face.

“C’mon, I’m bored. What else is there to do? You’re so damn secretive, for all I know the ropes are the tamest thing in your repertoire.”

“Just watch the damn tv, ok?” Sam inwardly blamed the twisting in his stomach on hunger.

Two Series Recs: This week, I am going with two series that are currently in progress. I know that finished works often get a lot of focus. As they should! I can tell you first hand that seeing a whole series through to the end is a TALL ORDER. But you know what is also very freaking cool? Hopping on board while the train is still in motion, catching up with previous chapters and waiting excitedly to see where the train is taking you! So without further ado, here are the two trains that I recommend you all hop on this week.

Thrills. Chills. Swoons. Moons. This story is brimming with excitement and adrenaline… not to mention the heat. (Frankie is a whole entire menace, as he should be.) All the guys are here (yes, that does include Tom 🙄) and they are all captured so perfectly, as is their friendship with one another and with Frankie. It features a very confident, brave, badass reader, ancient lore, supernatural elements, family business, and one heck of a connection between our main characters. Every chapter flies by and leaves you wanting - needing - more, and now is an excellent time to let yourself get hooked on this one, because the action is only ramping up from here!

Are you looking for a new OC to fall in love with and want to protect with your life? How about a morally gray long-hauler who moonlights as a bounty hunter? Well you’re in luck because this story has BOTH. It’s also got incredibly high stakes juxtaposed with really sweet, human moments. Charlie is one of the most charming OCs I’ve ever met (which happens to be one of her rules to live by- all of which are good advice for anyone to follow, IMO) and Din’s characterization is so very well done - as is Grogu’s. The theme of delivering the bounty vs doing what’s right is very present and extremely well done, and watching these characters warm up to each other and blur the lines is truly a treat. Get caught up and hitch a ride for the rest of the journey, because I know it’s only going to get better from here!

Dieter needs a break from work and the hullabaloo that comes along with it, and has enlisted the help of his assistant to book him a solo getaway so he can just relax, reset and revive the vibes. Sounds great, right? It is, until he gets turned around and off the beaten track in the middle of the desert and meets the enigmatic Ava and her faithful pal Goat… who might be more than your average Great Dane. After a misunderstanding about where he’s supposed to be, Dieter realizes that the airstream desert oasis under the stars is exactly where he’s meant to be.

Part of an existing universe

Even though I’ve not yet read the series that this one shot takes place in, it’s immediately gone on my list due to this little interlude. This is such a good character study of Joel and of Ellie - of what they’ve been through, what they want for each other, and how their relationship has grown and changed. It’s got some really beautiful lines and heartwarming/heartbreaking feelings. I love these two forever and ever, and this little slice of life shows just how much they love each other, too. Joel Miller is Dad of the century. Period. The end.

I fell behind on this absolute stunner of a story, so I had the joy of catching up with the two most recent parts all in one go. And let me tell you, for as much TLOU typical tension and angst as there is in these latest two parts, they truly were a joy to read. Because one of Adira’s many strong suits is balancing soft with hard, safety with danger, joy with fear. Watching Joel slowly open up, watching Reader learn how to reach him, watching Ellie get to have more normalcy? It’s beautiful. It’s got my heartstrings all knitted up all warm and fuzzy like, and simultaneously has me ready to stab anyone who hurts a hair on any of their heads with a knitting needle. But Joel’s got that covered, doesn’t he?

A fairytale romance with a bittersweet touch

I recently treated myself to Hazel’s Seven Tears and absolutely loved every mythical second of it. So when I saw that she also had a story centered around a Merling Reader, I KNEW I’d love it just as much. And I was right. Everything from the visuals of Reader’s Yew Forest to their appearance was magical, and the lengths that Oberyn (and Ellaria) go to for his Merling to keep them safe and happy for so perfectly with what we know about him - that he’s a lover, a protector, an open mind and a full heart.

Soulmates/ multiple lifetimes AU

This is one of those stories that is going to stick with me for a long time. I’m gonna be like that meme where it’s like hey you okay you’ve been quiet what are you thinking about? And in my brain it’s just “the warrior and the blacksmith and that iris charm” but I have to be like “I’m fine 👍🏻”. This story won my heart, broke my heart, and fixed my heart as I followed a pair of fated lovers finding each other through three different lifetimes, and it did so in truly beautiful fashion. The repetition of certain motifs, the way gorgeous lines are sprinkle throughout this whole piece like glitter, the bond between these characters, these souls… it’s perfect.

EZRA. AND. A DOG*!😀🥰 *A troublemaking little rascal who is just like his owner, as dogs tend to be. I love that Ezra has a companion to keep him company, and I love even more that this companion (Peanut! 🥹) seems determined to get his human a human companion …. By any (thieving) means necessary. Everything between Ezra and Reader falls so naturally into place and how could it not with him being so charming and Peanut being such a peanut? I also truly loved the thought of Ezra creating his own little Green haven in his backyard. Hope I get to spend some more time back there someday soon. 😌
