Twonoshima for the last day of @dr-rarepair-week-blog ! Written for the prompt "fashion"! I had a lot of fun doing this, though I did have trouble picking rarepairs - not because I didn't have enough, but because I had too many! Still a bit sad Nagito didn't feature in any of these, would have liked to write junkomanami for one of the days. For that matter, Junkozuru would have been fun too... Such is the curse of having too many rarepairs. But I am ultimately happy with what I wrote! I had a lot of fun! <3

Do you think if hiyoko was a lil warrior she would end up getting manipulated by Junko with the other warriors of hope? I mean she also did, but what if she was manipulated by someone older with a group of kids her own age?

see i personally think that during the despair times she was getting groomed to take over in part for junko (who. while dead. i have Opinions. twonoshima, anybody?). she has the perfect mix of rebellion and dependency needed + is already running from one destructive ideology while being naive enough to crash headlong into another, especially if the trusted adults around her were also promoting it (see: the ease with which she picked up her grandmother's vitriol, despite claiming to hate her).

also she'd be too old to be a lil ultimate she would be 13-14 by the time despair hit instead of the lil ults who are all like. 10 iirc

First batch of my fav class 77/Junko ships because I have thoughts. If you’re wondering why Junko’s preferences and feelings shift depending on the relationship-- it’s because she fundamentally changes who she is as a person depending on who she’s with. Hope this helps!

Oh absolutely!!!

I feel like it’s important to start this dynamic with my hc that the Twilight Murder syndrome case happened at the end of class 77’s first year, and Junko showed up at the beginning of their second year. Also that Sato was the Ultimate Model, so Mahiru is immediately struck with the two’s resemblance.

Personally from what I saw in chapter 2, i find Sato and Mahiru’s friendship gave off a lot of homoerotiscm AND. A lot of red flags so Mahiru is perfectly prepped to enter a homoerotic red flag raising relationship with Junko! (They do actually end up dating though)

Mahiru is the voice of common sense who’s actually not great at saying no to Junko, and Junko is the charming muse who’s always happy to get her photo taken by Mahiru. This dynamic is also fun cause its basically canon to drS! I’d recommend their shared event, it absolutely has the homoerotic slightly ominous vibes:

LIKE OKAY MAHIRU. She ends up having a LOT of Junko photos at the end of her school days, but then promptly has all these photos destroyed as a remnant. Her big thing as a remnant is living with Twonoshima which, uh, is pretty bad for her! She’s cut off several fingers as a punishment for going against Twonoshima, and her memories of Junko have been very distorted. Thank god she’s got plenty of Twonoshima photos to make up for it!

As for Hiyoko....her relationship with Junko is much more big sister focused, though she initially finds Junko unsettling. I think Junko’s sugary sweetness would upset her, but Junko would loosen up VERY quickly once she got a good grip on Hiyoko’s personality. Junko does not nothing to discourage Hiyoko’s crueler habits, and if anything, very much encourages them!

Later on in their relationship, Hiyoko is more vulnerable and talks with Junko about the struggles of the spotlight, but I think Junko always loves her most when she’s mean-- so that’s what she goes for! I’m sure there’s an interesting dynamic here, with Junko and Mahiru as the devil and angel on Hiyoko’s shoulders lol.

Junko’s killing game is the final nail in the coffin that convinces Hiyoko the weak and pathetic deserve to die, and that she is in the right to hurt people. After all, how could big sis Junko be wrong? This then unfortunately leads into her being groomed to becoming the new Ultimate Despair-- switching from being molded by one authority figure to another. Except now Twonoshima delights in every attempt at rebellion, and violence only encourages her.

oh please tell us about the relationship between junko / imposter & what became of them after her death i'm always so curious about it

Oh hell yeah!! Thanks for the ask!

Basically, I think Junko was the darling of class 77, (more simply, the Makoto), and most of the class had some sort of romantic entanglement or deep friendship with her, with only one or two exceptions. Imposter is not one of these exceptions, and they are taken in by her strong personality and excellent mimicking abilities.

Their relationship with Junko takes a turning point when Junko and Byakuya decide to fake-date for the press coverage, (and to avoid rumors about Byakuya's sexuality). Since Imposter is currently ALSO Byakuya, Junko argues they should also fake-date. The original Byakuya encourages this plan, so he can avoid Junko as much as possible. While Byakuya and Junko only dislike each other, Twogami takes the fake-dating assignement a lot more seriously, and ends up having a lot of romantic tension with Junko.

Cue major flirting and closet makeouts, with a huge element of the media capturing their 'scandalous' relationship. Imposter ends up having genuine feelings for Junko, and probably opens up to her the most. Junko thinks they're similar, so she enjoys their company.

Then Junko suddenly hosts a killing game and kills herself, completely inexplicably in Imposter's eyes. Because she became Imposter's closest friend and lover, they decide to take up her identity-- both as a way of honoring her, and of trying to spread her goal of 'despair'.

This is where Twonoshima comes in! If you've seen my remnant askblog, you can tell they're basically just Awful Terrible Despair-filled Junko. This is because they're specifically imitating the version of Junko they saw on tv, and not the one they remember from their school days. They wrestle with this role because it goes against everything they believe in-- but they want to do Junko proud.

Unfortunately, this takes a turn for the worse as Twonoshima doubles down on the performance in the face of their classmates' mixed opinions, and seeks to truly become Junko. By the time sdr2 rolls around, they've completely lost sight of their original self, and successfully turned all their relationships into violent, unhealthy wrecks. This is all justified in the name of 'Despair', something they still don't understand or really know how to define.

Or, to put it more simply and in an echo of their words: "Hers was the most absolute existence I'd ever known."
