Lady Luck
"So, want to tell me what exactly landed you here? It isn't usual for someone other than Lightning to talk to you, or your brother."
"Who?" A scoffed escaped a dark haired woman. Her legs crossed as he stared down at the brown haired man laying on his side, craddling his left hand to his chest. "No, seriously, who?" The woman leaned forward, resting her face in her hand which was supported by her knee. She wasn't shocked this man didn't know who she was talking about. Lightning was a fickle woman, didn't open up to people easily; fellow L'Cie or not.
"Lightning. The goddess queen of old? Knight to the goddess of death? The savior? Wow do they really have no information on the past that far back?" The woman asked brow raised, though despite her tone indicating that the man on the floor was stupid, she got no reaction out of him. He merely laid there before looking up at her and shook his head. Strands of his brown hair falling out of their sliked back style. "Anything at all?"
"Not that I know of. I wasn't allowed access to that information. People aren't supposed to know what I am anyway." He responded, at that the woman made a face of displeasure. "It's a long story."
"I'll say, damn bastards. There ain't anything wrong with ya if that's what the issue was." She stated, though with how sure she sounded, it was clear it shocked the man slightly. Said green eyed woman sighed as she unfolded her legs and leaned forward. "You gonna get up? Or stay like that?" He gave her shrug, at this she sighed heavily and stood up before kneeling down next to him. "Up. Or I make ya."
"Why do you even /care/?"
"Make ya it is-" she said before grabbing him by the upper arm and yanking up, forcing the man to stumble upon to his feet. He glared at her for a moment before it disappeared just as quickly as it came. Though he still held his wrist to his chest. "You don't have to hide it here. It isn't something to be ashamed of." She assured him, though her tone was anything but comforting, noticing his hesitation, she reached out, lacthing onto his right hand and yanking it away. "There, much better."
"You know, just because you can touch me, doesn't mean you have to, Fang." The man mumbled, slightly annoyed. Though he wasn't annoyed with her, he couldn't be. This woman was the only person right now who he could put all his trust in. The only woman who knew anything about being a L'Cie. For as long as Luche could remember since becoming a L'Cie. Fang had made her presence known to him via dreams, or his many near death experiences. Shes confident, stubborn, and cocky even, something Luche often hated in people, but then that wasn't true due to his past relationship with Nyx.
"Well, that's quite the look. You okay?" She asked, now sounding concerned, worried even. Ah right, despite her stubborn, confident and cocky personality; she also was compassionate and caring for those who she deemed family and loved ones. "Let me guess, Nyx?" She watched Luche flinch at the name, though he didn't answer, he didn't need to. She knew that was what he was thinking about just based on his haunted expression. "You did what you had to. He ain't dead, he's alive and well,"
"And thinks me part of the reason Insomnia fell. Because I listened to a rock by not speaking up and being the 'inside man' to keep a close eye on those who betrayed the King." He cut in, giving her an exusghted look. Which she gussed is what lead him here, over worked himself until he fell unconscious somewhere and is now on the ground in the middle of nowhere. It was normal that this is how they basically communicated these days. "My gun was the one used to kill Crowe. Crowe. Our sister. Our best friend. Things would have gone differently had I spoken up, had I said something to the king before everything happened. If I had tried to convince the others that they didn't-"
"They would have killed you on the spot." Fang cut in, grabbing his chin and forcing eye contact. "Then what? Crowe's death would be for nothing. Nyx's injuries would be for nothing. The king and his shield would he dead for nothing. Everything has a role to play and if it didn't play like it was supposed to, then Noctis would truely be up shit creek without a paddle." She shoved the other's face a bit, turning away from him with a hand on her hip. Clearly she wasn't happy with what he was saying. "We L'Cie follow our focus. Or in our case, fight it to find a better outcome, or to change it. You are meant to do the same. Fight your focus to find the true one that is buried so deep down, you feel like there is no hope left." She turned back around to face the male, and sighed at the sight of him looking so defeated, so tired, so alone.
Which he was at the moment. He was traveling alone, cut off all contact with anyone else, he was trying to find his brother via hearsay and pure instict. It was a shock that he was even able to find out where Ignis had been or where he was headed. Traveling alone however had its draw backs. An example being the situation Luche was now in, hurt and tired from having to fight off daemons alone and taking hunts on alone. He often found himself in these situations, Fang was honestly worried about the progression of his Mark. If it opened up fully before his focus was complete he would become a Cie'th. A glance to his mark and seeing it hadn't progressed much, it made her feel a little better.
"Luche, darling Lu." She started, which prompted the man to raise a brow at her in confusion at the pet name. No one called him Lu anymore, he didn't allow it. Though this was Fang and the day he could stop her from doing what she pleased would be the day hell froze over. She walked back over, cupping his face between her hands, the look of confusion never once left his face. "It's hard I know that. Being a L'Cie isn't easy, it wasn't back then and it isn't now. But here is the difference, you have someone, me, to help guide you in the right direction. Even if it doesn't seem like it,I promise you that I am on your side."
Luche stood there, the look of confusion slowly melted away as he listened to her speak. Eventually he let his eyes cast over to the ground. Not like there was anything there other then blinding white. "Never once did I doubt that. It's just not easy doing this alone." He finally admitted, though he couldn't bring himself to get back in contact with anyone else. Not when the one person he actually wanted to speak with most believed him to be at fault for everything that happened in the crown city. "But I'm also a stubborn idiot who insists on doing this alone. With only you as my help. Right now, I can't trust anyone else. And not because they are suspicious, but only because of my own actions. Of I'm going to do this, I'll do this my way. If. Become a crystal by the end of it or before it....then at least I did something right. If I become a Cie'th, then at least I get the punishment I deserve for what I did."
"Punishment for what, Luche Lazarus? Doing what you were told? Saving the Orcale from being killed in the city? Protecting the man you love even if he too had to out the ring on at the end?" She asked, shaking her head and punching him in the arm. "There ain't nothing you need to be punished for. Besides, with Lady Luck on your side, you won't become a Cie'th. You'll be granted your Crystal sleep." She said, fliting the mood now. Luche merely scoffed and shook his head and he eyed her with an amused grin when the woman pulled away.
"Lady Luck is a-"
"Don't go there or I'll punch your lights out."
"News flash, Fang. I'm already out cold." That got a laugh from both. Fang smiled, this is what Luche needed. Friendly banter, and something to keep his mind off of everything that was going on. "Thanks, Fang. Really thanks. Get so into my own head I forget to look at the bigger picture." The woman shrugged, arms crossed over her chest now.
"It's okay to get into your own head. Your emotions matter as well you know. But as long you remember the big picture, it's alright and things are going to work out." She said, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Now wake up."
"Come on, son wake up." With a groan Luche slowly blinked, looking up at the familiar voice. He sighed when he was met the sight of the Hunter by the name of Dave. He was usually the one Luche went to for information on Ignis. "There you are. Maybe it's time you join a group instead of taking ever hunt on your own." The blue eyed male shook his head. "Suit yourself. But at least let me give you a ride to the next town."
"Yeah, alright. Thank you, Dave." He said, accepting the hand the other extended out to him. He hissed in pain when he was pulled to his feet but otherwise managed to stay on his feet. He watched the other man in slight confusion as he kneeled down to pick something up. He eyed the very fimiliar red colored lance in confusion and slight shock.
"Didn't know you knew how to use one of these." Luche blinked and took the weapon into his hand and stared at it. He chuckled a bit as he nodded, following the Hunter back to his truck, smiling down at the dog who always joined them. He opened the door and allowed the said dog to jump in first to sit between them before Luche climbed in. He sighed in relief and leaned back, shutting his eyes and holding the lance tightly. "Looks new. Just got it?"
Luche smiled a bit before he responded. "Yeah. It was gift from a friend. She's been hounding me to be more careful. Think I might listen to her now though."
"Good. You got people who care about you. I don't want to end up sending your brother to get your tags." Ouch, yeah that scared Luche a little bit. He didn't want to end up dead and have Ignis find his tags. "Next stop, Wiz's Chocobo post." He laughed at the loud groan he got from the other male. "You'll thank me."
Sure enough, when arriving Luche couldnt stop himself when he spotted an all to familiar person. And he most certainly did not mind the looks of confusion from Ignis' friends or the looks of confusion from the people at the post. Though, he did avoid answering questions about the red lance he now planned on keeping strapped to his back, and only responded by saying "It was a gift from my most loyal friend." He also didn't miss or question the voice and the smug tone
"See? Lady Luck ain't that mean."

1. “Do you want me to leave?” - Hopurai
royal!AU tag
my intention with this AU was for it to be a bunch of oneshots that could be read separately….but this is the installment that makes me wish I’d had the foresight to just make it into a multichapter fic 8D;if you don’t want to go in blindly, I would HIGHLY recommend (re?)reading at least the previous installment before the this one. all the fics are in the above linked tag, or they’re in a collection on AO3 here
sorry for being so ridiculous lmao
*****
Therewas such a strange disconnect from staring outside the windows of thepalace as opposed to when she’d had to stare out of a hole in theceiling back when she’d been living in the slums. Back then, she’d belooking up into the smog-covered sky, trying against all odds to seethe stars that the fal'cie would bring at night.
Now,sitting in her office, she could literally look down on so much ofEden since the palace towered over pretty much everything except thefal'cie Phoenix itself. It was weird, to say the least.
Well,she supposed it was no stranger than Lightning Farron, former soldierand resident of the slums, being discovered as Eden’s long-lostprincess.
Lightningfrowned slightly as she watched people go about their daily business.From up here, they looked like ants. It was hard to believe that somecould be struggling or confused or going through heartbreak…
Notthat she’d know anything about heartbreak. At all. Nope.
“Hey,you finished yet?”
Witha sigh, Lightning pulled her gaze away from the window and stared atSazh, who was officially her adviser, but really played the role of ababysitter. It was insulting if she thought about it too much. “Doesit look like I’ve finished?”
“True.”Sazh waltzed up to her desk and pointedly stared at the pile ofpapers. “'Cause if you had finishedthis incredibly easy task, I bet you would’ve found me already andclaimed that poor ol’ Sazh was overworked and needed a vacation - ”
“Itried to give you a vacation after the ball,” Lightning pointedout, raising an eyebrow. “You told me I’d probably set the palaceon fire if you left for a day.”
“AndI’m probably right!”
“Doubtful.”Lightning rolled her eyes and tapped her pen against the papers infront of her a few times. “I’m fairly sure that I, a grown adultwho’s been taking care of herself since she was a teenager, couldeasily manage without you for a few days.”
“Keeptellin’ yourself that.” Sazh picked up one of the papers. “Whichone are you working on?”
“Theletter to Vanille.” DiaVanille had been an important guest at Lightning’s introduction balla few days ago. It was a gathering that had officially presented heras Eden’s princess, which, in turn, would hopefully open up newrelations. Now she was supposed to be writing letters of intent toget people on her side with whatever she planned to do as regent.
Despitefinding the whole practice completely ridiculous, Lightning actuallyhad gotten along fairly well with the Duchess of Luxerion, Vanille.She had to wonder if this was partially because her bodyguard wasfriends with the Duchess and that made it easier to like her.
Or…formerbodyguard, she supposed.
“Keepit short and sweet,” Sazh advised. “Vanille’s not much for longletters.”
“Andyou think I am?”
“Justlet me dream a little, geez. Kids these days.”
Lightningrolled her eyes again, her mind wandering to the ball. Chatting withVanille and her girlfriend Fang, the Princess of Oerba…dancing in adress that glittered with an obnoxious amount of diamonds…steppingonto the balcony with -
Ugh,okay, definitely not goingthere.
Aftera pause where she wrote a few words, Lightning glanced up. Sazh wasscribbling something in a book – probably grading her on heretiquette, hmph. “Was there something else you needed?”
“Yes,as a matter of fact.” Sazh stopped writing and plopped into a chairwithout any grace. If she’d done the same, he would’ve recoiled inhorror. “We didn’t really get a chance to talk after the ball.Gotta say, I’m impressed with how you handled things.”
“Itwas a glorified dance. Not too difficult.”
Thatwas a lie and they both knew it. Lightning had grown up in a suburbof Eden and then spent her teenage years in the slums – she’d neverbeen to any sort of dance, never mind a ball of the caliber that’dbeen held in her honor. Beingparaded around like a doll had been one of the most difficult thingsshe’d ever done. Luckily, she’d met Vanille and Fang very early onduring the night and their new-foundfriendship had made goingthrough the motions much easier.
Therewas someone else who’d helped out, but she preferred not to think toohard about that.
“Yeah,yeah.” Sazh waved a hand. “Keep tellin’ yourself that. And tellme your thoughts –anybody there you think we could strengthen an alliance with? Or formone? Technically, Eden’s always been on good terms with the otherkingdoms since Phoenix is the most important fal'cie, but there’salways room for improvement. See any of that? Or…” He raised aneyebrow. “Any potential suitors?”
Lightningducked her head, hoping against everything that the heat she feltsimmering under her skin was from a…hot flash or something. Yeah,that totally made sense. She wasn’t about to blush atthe thought of a certain personal bodyguard taking her to see astar-filled sky and light-studded city. There was definitely nothought of his hands on her, his lips caressing hers…
“Nosuitors,” she finally said, clearing her throat and daring to lookup. At least her face felt normal. “Serah seemed to like the Patronof Yusnaan, though.” She frowned.
“What,you got a problem with him?” Sazh looked faintly amused. “I knowhe’s just a kid, but then again, so are you.”
“Hejust seemed…” Lightning shook her head. There were only a fewwords she could think of to describe Snow Villiers, and none of themwere all that flattering. “But we’ve been on particularly goodterms with Yusnaan, so it doesn’t really matter. Fang seemed to likeme, so maybe we can strengthen ties with Oerba.”
“Thatgirl’s an odd one.” Sazh leaned back in his chair, looking lost inthought. “I’m pretty sure all she really gives a damn about isVanille. For awhile, it was lookin’ like Oerba and Luxerion wouldofficially join forces, possibly to try and topple Eden and take overPhoenix.”
Lightningraised her eyebrows. “Could they do that?”
“Probably.Ain’t like the fal'cie care that much.”
Shehad no idea if that was true. Lightning had yet to see Phoenix inperson since being found as the princess of Eden. “Do you thinkFang was trying to get on my good side, then? And then betray me whenleast expected?”
“Nahhh.If Vanille liked you, then Fang’s sure as hell not gonna mess withyou or anybody in Eden. And trust me, Vanille is as genuine as theycome. Kinda hard to believe she’s royalty sometimes.” Sazh sighedin exasperation. “I’ve worked with so many of you kids over theyears that I wonder if you all share the same stick up your ass.”
Insteadof biting back with a retort, Sazh’s comment made Lightning asksomething she’d been wondering for awhile. “That’s right – bothFang and Vanille said that they knew you. You were an adviser forsome members of the old family, too.”
“Gladto see you pay attention when I talk.”
“Thatdoesn’t make much sense, though,” Lightning continued, ignoringSazh’s comment. “You’re not even twice my age. You said you’ve beenserving the old family for years, but if you served Fang and Vanilletoo…”
“Inever told you?” Now Sazh looked confused, but also a littleconcerned. It was very strange to see him with an expression towardsher that wasn’t exasperation. “Huh, guess I wouldn’t have at thebeginning. And things have been so crazy with the ball andeverything…”
“Toldme what?”
Sazhundid the top two buttons of his shirt and tugged it down a bit. Itwas still hidden under some fabric, but there were a bunch oftelltale lines and intersecting arrows that made Lightning sit ramrodstraight in her chair, eyes widening a bit. She knew what it meantbefore Sazh even said the words.
“I’ma l'cie.”
Thestories had spread among the slums – scary children’s tales thatwould send Serah crying into her arms in fear. L'cie were warriorschosen by fal'cie and sent to fight their battles, using magic farmore powerful and horrifying than the average person was capable of.They would live forever until the fal'cie grew tired of them andended their misery with agony, only to gather new warriors and repeatthe cycle anew.
Sincethere hadn’t been a real war in centuries, l'cie were just terriblestories. Even though Lightning knew they were likely just that –stories – nobody she knew had ever met or been one, so itwas hard to say what was the truth or not.
Itwas true, however – recorded in history books and all –that l'cie were branded when they were made. The lines intersectingon Sazh’s skin perfectly matched what Lightning knew.
“You’re– how - ”
“Ohc'mon, you know damn well I’m not some war machine. I hear thosestories. Most of ‘em are totally untrue. Probably made up by somefanatic or anti-war group back in the day.” Sazh shrugged andbuttoned his shirt, hiding the brand from sight.
“Thenwhat is true?”
“One,we don’t live forever. But it does stretch things out a bit.” Hechuckled. “You pretty much stop physically aging once you’rebranded. Good thing, or I’d have half a century’s worth of gray hairfrom all you kids stressin’ me out.”
Lightningdid not laugh. She still felt something akin to horror, though Sazh’snonchalant attitude and her own logic were calming her down a bit.“But why were you branded? I’ve always heard that l'cie werejust tools for war.”
“LikeI said, stories.” Sazh waved a hand. “Yeah, sure, some were madefor war, but most l'cie are branded to carry out a certain purpose,whether for war or whatever else.”
“Andlet me guess,” Lightning said, her head starting to clear, “yourpurpose is to annoy me?”
“Close.”He chuckled again. “Nah, the old queen’s mother put in a good wordfor me with Phoenix. I kinda fell into the adviser role and the royalfamily was damn impressed. They asked if I wanted to do it forlonger, and well…” He shrugged. “Here I am. ‘Course, I’d go outto ally kingdoms or whatnot. In Duchess Vanille’s case, her parentsdied when she was barely a kid, so I kept an eye on her. I only knowPrincess Fang through her, though.”
“Isee.” And she did, actually. The initial shock had finally wornoff. Honestly, she couldn’t see why someone would want to live foryears and years doing the sort of thing Sazh did, but now she knewhow he was so good at his job…literal years of practice. “And I’mguessing this is common knowledge among the other royals?”
“Well,yeah. I’m everywhere, you know.” He tapped the side of his head.“Can’t do much to hide that.”
“Isuppose not.” Of course she was the last to know…but then again,she always seemed to be the last to know things lately, sowhat did one more thing matter?
“Onthat note, I’ve got some other things I need to do.” The tone inSazh’s voice had gone so serious that it made Lightning glance upfrom her letter and frown in confusion.
“Whatthings?”
“Geez,so nosy.” He shook his head. “Don’t you worry about it. Finishyour letters and I’ll have one of the assistants come in andproofread them.”
Sherolled her eyes. “Sure.”
Hewas already halfway out the door, but still called out as thought heactually had eyes in the back of his head. “I saw that!”
Lightningshook her head and stared back down at her letter to Vanille, tappingher pen against the paper a few times. Even though it’d been quitesome time since she’d been found as Eden’s princess, the formalityand unspoken rules still baffled her. Ever since meeting a bunch ofthem at her introduction ball, however, she’d seen that many of themfound some of the rules and etiquette archaic as well.
Sowhy did they have to do it?
Shesighed heavily and slumped in her chair – a posture that Sazh wouldfrown upon, but for once, she was blessedly alone. Not even a maidwas to be seen, although she could hear people puttering in thehallways outside her office. It was so rare these days she couldactually be by herself. Usually she at least had her personalbodyguard with her…
“No,”she muttered, chiding herself. She would not think about him.She would not wonder where he’d gone after running from her atthe ball, and she would certainly not replay the images oftheir kiss in her mind.
Nope.Not her.
Lightningheaved another sigh and shoved the papers aside, going back tostaring out the window. Concentration was clearly useless, at leastfor now. She may as well take advantage of Sazh not being around todemand her to do stuff.
Itwas only a few days later when she got the news.
Shewas in the sitting area of her suite, talking to Serah on the phone –an encrypted, ridiculously secure line, of course. Actually beingable to see her sister would’ve been better, but Serah wascompletely swamped with work at the university and couldn’t get away.
Therewas always, however, time for a phone call.
“Ijust don’t get what you see in him,” Lightning muttered, scribblingin the margins of her scrap paper. She was still working on thoseletters and had been trying to think of good things to say SnowVilliers, Patron of Yusnaan. It was exceedingly difficult.
Forher, anyway.
“He’sso sweet!” Serah basically swooned over the phone. “And don’t youthink he’s handsome? I wonder if he’ll wear the same outfit at myintroduction ball.”
Lightningfrowned. “He’s a big lug that kept stepping on my feet.”
“Notto mention that you can tell he really cares about his people.”Serah kept going on like her sister had said nothing. “Maybe it’sbecause he was elected? I mean, I know you care about everyone in thekingdom, but some of the other royals who have lived it since theywere born….it’s different for them. Don’t you think so?”
Unconsciously,Lightning’s grip on her phone tightened. He’d said that to her morethan once.
Youknow what it’s like on the other side. You’ll be able to bring realchange.
Herstomach fluttered and she willed the door to knock – something,anything to let her know that her personal bodyguard wascoming back.
Knock-knock.
Shestared at the door. Could it be…?
“YourHighness?”
Hershoulders drooped so quickly that she nearly dropped the phone. Sherecognized the quiet voice of Yeul, one of her maids. With a heavysigh, she called out, “Just a moment!”
“Sis?Do you want me to leave?”
“Sorry,Serah.” Lightning heaved another sigh. “I have to go. I’ll callyou back tonight, okay?”
“Okay!I should probably get back to all this homework.” Her tone grewteasing. “You think they’d let a princess catch a break.”
“Ifyou’d wanted to catch any breaks, you wouldn’t have applied to themost prestigious university in the world,” Lightning teased back.“I’ll talk to you later.”
“Okay.Love you!”
“Youtoo.”
Anotherquiet knock sounded at the door. This time, Lightning stood, herposture automatically straight as she smoothed down her clothes. Asthere hadn’t been anything urgent on her schedule for the day, she’dopted for comfortable slacks and a thin cashmere sweater – clothingshe’d take over diamond-studded ball gowns any day.
“Comein.”
Yeulentered the room, dropping into a curtsy. All of the servantscontinued to be ridiculously formal around her, despite herinsistence otherwise. It was sort of why she appreciated Sazh naggingher all the time, though hell would freeze over before she’d admitit.
Andspeak of the devil…
“Mr.Katzroy requests that you join him in the conference room, YourHighness.”
Lightningfrowned, the request immediately striking her as odd. Usually Sazhsought her out himself when he needed something, or at least wouldbring her to whatever room he needed. Especially since this palacewas ridiculously huge and she still didn’t always know her wayaround.
“Conferenceroom?”
“Yes.”Yeul bowed her head. “Allow me to escort you.”
“Sure.”Lightning was all too happy to leave her papers and thoughts ofwriting to Snow behind…although surely whatever Sazh had plannedfor her would be just as annoying.
Itturned out she wasn’t too far off.
Yeulmurmured something into a speaker that was attached to the earpieceshe was wearing, presumably telling her coworkers where she was. Therest of the walk was fairly quiet, which was fine with her. Lightningwas more than okay with staring at the paintings and pricelessartifacts that adorned the walls. A lot of them were portraits of herextremely distant ancestors. Apparently she and Serah would have tosit for portraits at some point and then they’d be on the wallsforever. It was a very weird thought.
Whenthe finally reached the conference room, Yeul curtsied again beforeopening one of the wide doors. “Her Highness, Princess Lightning,has arrived,” she called, her soft voice echoing into the emptyroom.
“Thanks,”Lightning said, nodding at Yeul before she stepped inside. There wasa weird flash of gold that struck Yeul’s eyes, but it was probablyjust glare from all the artifacts around them. Weird.
Theconference room was huge, with tons of folded seats and what lookedlike a stage and podium. It reminded her a bit of a theater withoutthe screen. “Sazh?”
“Overhere.” He was off to the side, where there was a table and somechairs covered with papers. She hurried over to him. “Always makin’an old man wait, huh?”
“Yeah,yeah.” It felt weird to comment on that since now she had a roughidea of just how old Sazh really was. “How come you calledme here?”
“Nobodyever uses this room and I wanted to inform you of something inprivate.”
Instantly,Lightning’s heart began to pound. For whatever reason, her firstthought was of the night of the ball. Had someone seen them out onthe balcony? Was there some protocol about a princess and herbodyguard sharing a kiss?
“It’sabout your coronation.”
Shelet out a huge breath she hadn’t even known she’d been holding,slumping in her seat a bit. She ignored the evil eye Sazh gave her.“What about it?”
“Asyou know, the old family kept their power tightly reigned.” Themore he spoke, the more serious Sazh became. It was weirdlyoff-putting. “All of the descendants have been, more or less,direct from the first king. Kinda a cut and dry family tree, evenwith all the marriages and what have you.”
“Right.”Lightning vaguely recalled this when she’d been forced to study theold family. The crown almost always went to the firstborn son ordaughter, which wasn’t so unusual for royalty, she supposed, but thefamily tree was streamlined to the point where many of thefirstborn’s siblings rarely got married or had children of their own.It was why she and Serah being a part of all of this was basicallyunprecedented.
Veryweird.
“LikeI told you, I’ve had some dealings with the old family. And I’m notthat old to remember the first king, but there’s a reason theykept the family as it was.”
“Sazh,please.” Lightning was rapidly running out of patience. She wasn’treally sure why, but something in her just wanted to hear thenews already. “Get to the point.”
“Soimpatient,” he muttered. “Okay, fine – long story short – thecoronation and ruling status are only valid with approval fromPhoenix.”
Itfelt like a block of ice had suddenly dropped in her stomach,although it took her a moment to rationalize why. “Approval?”“Yes.”The serious tone in Sazh’s voice grew. “You meet with the fal'ciein a special one-on-one ceremony. Phoenix will brand you as the nextruler of Eden. Not like a l'cie,” he added hastily, whenLightning’s gaze focused on the spot where his brand was hidden.“There’s no permanent mark, although it lasts 'til you’reofficially crowned. Then you’re free to rule as you please.”
Theice turned to lead in her gut. “Okay, so I meet with Phoenix andit…approves of me.” She frowned. “Why tell me this in secrecy?This is probably common knowledge among the royals, right?”
“Yeah.Some of the others brand their rulers like this too, but Phoenix isthe most important because, well…obvious reasons and all.”
“Isee.” The perfect placeholder reply, because this whole thing madeher feel…uneasy. Phoenix was arguably the most importantfal'cie in the world. Without the sun and life it provided, therewould be no world. The fal'cie from other kingdoms couldeasily be replaced with hard work and effort from humanity.
Butthe sun? There was no replacement for that.
Theenormity of her role in the world suddenly hit her like a train. Itdidn’t matter if her sister or the other royals or certain personalbodyguards believed in her. She’d never been very good at followingrules and had always thought of herself as very independent. The factthat she was to be in charge of everything under somethingelse’s power made her want to take a sword to Phoenix just to rid theworld of it, so humanity could try to thrive on its own.
Notthat she would – or could – ever admit this out loud.
“There’sone other thing,” Sazh added when she said nothing more.
Lightningrolled her eyes a little, mostly out of habit. “What?”
Hedidn’t comment on her rudeness. “I know for a fact thatyou’re part of the royal bloodline. Ol’ Sazh did his research. Youdon’t even want to know what dusty old books and old familyrecords I had to look up to find you and your sister.”
“You’vementioned this.” She raised an eyebrow. “Many times, in fact.”
“'Causeit’s true.” There was a pause before his voice went grave.“However, if Phoenix doesn’t approve of you for whatever reason ordecides you’re not worthy of the power to rule…”
Lightningwaited a moment for him to finish, but she knew what he meant when hetrailed off. This, maybe, was the source of her instant uneasinesswhen he’d started talking. It was everything she hadn’t known she wasdreading since coming into the conference room.
“…Phoenixwill kill me.” She met his eyes. “Won’t it?”
“There’snot much of a chance it’ll disapprove of you,” Sazh repliedquickly. She wondered who he was trying to convince. “Like I said,I did my research and you’re a part of the bloodline. I’ve heardthat’s all it really cares about. It’s not like the fal'cie reallygive a damn about human affairs, y'know?”
“Right.”She ignored the unsaid words – there was still that chance Phoenixwould cast her aside and everything would be for nothing.
Betterme than Serah.
Thatwas what it always came down to, the first thought her instinct wentto. Serah was the one who deserved a comfortable life withresponsibilities chosen by her and not some rule or bloodline. It wasbecause of her sister that Lightning had worked her ass off when theywere still in the slums, doing everything she could to give Serahever opportunity possible.
Shenever thought there was the possibility it could lead to her death.
Butwhat about her role now? Though she hadn’t asked for any of this, shewas slowly finding herself eager to make changes around the kingdomof Eden and make things better for people who weren’t long-lostmembers of the royal family.
“You’veseen both sides. I think that’ll eventually come to be your biggeststrength.”
Eventhough she kept trying not to think about a certain personalbodyguard, his words from the ball popped into her head. She’d alwaystaken his reassurance to heart, but now it had a thousand times moremeaning.
Thoughshe would never deny that Serah had also suffered in the past,Lightning had always watched out for her and sacrificed somuch to ensure that her needs were met. Their experiences weredifferent because of that.
Nobodyhad ever looked out for Lightning until now.
Andbecause of that, she was the only one who could truly changethings.
Shewas quiet for another moment as though contemplating, but short ofrunning away, there was really only one answer. There had only everbeen one answer.
Lightningsucked in a breath and met Sazh’s eyes, trying to steel herself withdetermination.
“Whatdo I need to do before meeting with Phoenix?”
Aswith practically everything related to this princess business, thepre-ceremony rituals were completely over the top and ridiculous.Someday she’d realize that nobody around here ever did things simply.
Overthe next couple of days, she rehearsed the ancient words that wouldsummon Phoenix to an audience with her. A handful of older maids –ones that had been tasked with all of the ritual business with theold family – helped her with cleansing baths and created theceremonial outfit. They were all sworn to secrecy.
Shefigured that made sense. If she was killed by Phoenix, it’d beeasier in the long run to play it off as some kind of accident ratherthan the most important fal'cie in the world rejecting her.
Butshe tried not to think about that. Besides the maids – and Sazh, ofcourse – the only other person who knew about the upcoming ceremonywas Serah, and that was simply because there was no way shewas keeping this a secret from her sister.
Lightningdidn’t mention the risks, though. Some things were better kept quiet.
“Snowtalks to Pandaemonium sometimes,” Serah mused over the phone. Itwas the night before Lightning’s meeting with Phoenix and she decidedshe’d needed the distraction. “Maybe he could give you advice!”
“Idon’t want any advice from that big lug.” She rolled her eyes, notwanting to admit she was curious, but… “…Talks to it how?”
Serah’svoice was a little knowing, but she didn’t tease. “He told me it’snot so much words. It’s not like conversing with a person – thefal'cie send images and they get clearer the more you have a mutualunderstanding.” She hummed a little. “Maybe it’s easy for himbecause he was elected the Patron.”
“Ormaybe his head’s so empty that the images come easier because there’snothing in the way.”
“Sis.”Serah huffed in exasperation. “Be nice.”
“I’dbe nicer if you were less interested in him.”
“Buthe’s so sweet!”
“Hmph.”This was what she wanted to worry about – who was goodenough for her sister and ridiculous things like that…not if thefal'cie who basically sustained the world was going to kill her.
Shecouldn’t let herself think about it.
Luckily,Serah was eager to keep chatting – mostly about Snow, toLightning’s disgust – and her nerves settled somewhat. Her sisterwas the one person who could distract her from this whole princessthing.
Well,her and another person, but she didn’t want to think about him,either.
Thenight passed quickly and soon Lightning was too tired to even hold upthe phone. She fell asleep quickly without having time to dwell onthe ceremony the next day. Just as planned.
Ironically,the sun woke her gently the following morning, which was a nicechange from her alarm going off or someone knocking on her door. Infact, she couldn’t remember the last time she’d woken up so calmly.
Ifonly it was enough to make up for what was about to happen.
Thecalm was unfortunately short-lived, because about thirty secondsafter she’d stood up and stretched, someone knocked at her door.
“YourHighness?”
Lightningsighed heavily, immediately recognizing the voice of the oldest ofthese in-the-know maids. “Come in.”
Therewere three of them and they filed in slowly, their hands clasped infront as they walked. She realized this was an incredibly serious andformal situation, but the realness of it smacked her in the face atthe sight of the maids looking so grave. That lead block that’dformed in her gut when Sazh initially told her about all of hisreturned in full force.
“Thisway.” One of the maids gestured to her ensuite bathroom, whereanother maid was already running the water. Lightning could see heradding special oils and herbs to the tub, apparently part of thewhole cleansing ritual.
Shewas already long used to shedding her modesty in front of otherpeople since this whole princess thing had become a part of her life,but she’d never hated it more than she had at this second. Undressingand slipping into the tub in front of the others just made this wholething feel weird and awkward and way more serious than she wanted itto be. It didn’t help that she knew arguing was useless; the oldestmaid had a glare that could probably take down Sazh – a trait she’dlove to learn, to be honest. Maybe she’d ask for lessons later.
Providedshe survived Phoenix’s judgment, of course.
Withthat thrilling thought in mind, Lightning allowed herself to be driedafter the bath and wrapped in a robe. She had to admit that whateverhad been added to the bath made her skin feel like new. There’d neverbeen any time or money to bother with girly lotions and potionsbefore Sazh had found them, but maybe there was some merit in it.
Onceshe was sufficiently dry, she was led into her enormous walk-inwardrobe, where the ceremonial gown was waiting for her. It wasactually quite a beautiful dress – a flowing garment in shades ofgold, white, and blue. There was a cape with a long train attached tothe back, maybe just to add to the ridiculousness. Phoenix’s brandwas embroidered along the edges in gold.
Themaids helped her into the gown and simple gold shoes. One of themclasped a gold bracelet with multicolored stones around her wrist.
“What’sthis?” Lightning asked, lifting her arm to inspect the bracelet. Anumber of jewels were kept in her wardrobe and a lot were in storage,but she was fairly sure she’d never seen this one before. It wasweirdly flashy and simple at once.
“Agift from Phoenix, Your Highness,” the youngest of the maidsanswered (although 'young’ in this case was about eighty years old).“It’s said that that fal'cie itself put it on the wrist of thefirst king. Ever since then, it’s been a tradition to wear it to theMeeting.”
Lightningsuddenly lost all interest in the bracelet and dropped her arm. “Oh.”
Thefinal part of her outfit was a headpiece that fit snugly in her hair.Long lines of gold extended from the band in varying lengths, thelongest about a foot. It formed a semicircle around her head – madeto resemble rays of the sun, she realized as she looked in a mirror.
“Whenyou’re ready, we’ll escort you,” the oldest maid said after apause.
“…Right.”Lightning let out a breath. “Let’s get this over with.”
Ifany of them found her comment weird, they made no mention. Instead,they simply ushered her out of her suite. The hallway – whichusually had people milling about cleaning and whatnot – was emptyexcept for them. Two of the maids stood on either side and one was infront to lead the way.
Theywalked like that the whole time in silence, the only sound being thewhoosh of her cape flowing over the floor. Usually Lightning reveledin quiet, but this silence felt way too heavy. It carried foreboding.
Doom.
Still,all she did was recite her summoning words in her mind, hoping shewouldn’t forget them. She’d never been one to crack under pressure,but this was a whole different level.
Itseemed like they’d walked for miles before they finally stopped infront of an enormous door. Lightning realized she’d actually passedthis area a handful of times, but the door was nondescript and tuckedaway, so she’d never given thought to what could be behind it.
Themaid in front slowly pulled the door open. Sunlight poured in and shetried not to squint at the glare.
“Wecan go no further,” the maid said. “Please head forward for yourceremony.”
“Thanks.”
Theyall curtsied in unison as she stepped into the light, not risinguntil the door slowly creaked shut behind her. Forget the lead in hergut; her stomach was doing cartwheels by now.
“Thatyou?”
Lightningnever thought she’d be so damn grateful to hear Sazh’s voice. She letout a breath she hadn’t known she’d been holding and hurried over –as much as she could in this outfit, anyway – and even though hestill looked grave and serious, it was still a relief to be aroundsomeone normal.
Well,normal to her, anyway.
“Ididn’t think you’d be here,” she said, trying to sound composed. “Ithought it might be against the rules or whatever.”
Despitethe serious expression on his face, Sazh smirked a little. “Whathave I been tellin’ you? There’s no getting rid of me. Besides, youhave any idea what you’re doing right now?”
Lightninglooked around the room for the first time. It was weirdly bright andwhite, though she could vaguely make out ornate designs on the wallsin gold. Ahead of her was more brightness and – was that fog?
Yeah,she was totally lost.
“Thoughtso,” was all Sazh replied at the look on her face. “All right,lemme lead you through it. Ask your questions or forever hold yourpeace.”
“Justtell me how to get to Phoenix,” she replied. “I want to get thisover with.”
“Fairenough.” He shook his head in exasperation and then gestured to theweirdly bright, foggy area in front of them. “Head forward untilyou see a crystal. It’ll be floating in midair, so try not to freak.”
“I’veseen freakier things.”
“Yeah,yeah.” He rolled his eyes, which was oddly comforting. “Once youget to the crystal, hold cup your hands around it.” Sazh held uphis own hands to demonstrate. “Then recite the summons you’veundoubtedly memorized. That should take you right to Phoenix.”
Lightningheld up her hands in the same way Sazh had. “Crystal, hands,recite. I think I’ve got it.”
“Youdo.” He stared at her a moment and then sighed, bowing his head abit before nodding. “You really do. You’ve got this.”
Ifthat was his way of saying he was sure she’d survive…the confidenceactually worked somewhat. Much to her annoyance, Sazh really did knowa lot and she trusted him. It was not guarantee, but at leastit was something.
“Right,”she murmured, squaring her shoulders. “I’ll be back.”
“We’llbe waiting.”
Asshe headed into the fog, Lightning could’ve sworn she heard somefootsteps echoing behind her, but she did not dare to look over hershoulder. Eyes front. If she lost her nerve now, she’d never be ableto do this again.
Timelost all meaning as she walked through the light and fog. There wasno comfort in it, but oddly enough, she had no fear, either. MaybeSazh’s confidence in her had actually worked. Maybe it was becauseshe had to survive for Serah.
Maybeit was because, according to a certain personal bodyguard, she couldbring about real change.
Shehad no idea how long she’d walked before the crystal appeared infront of her. It was shaped a bit like a diamond and reflectedrainbows into the whiteness around her. Just as she was supposed to,she hovered her hands around it and closed her eyes, bowing her headas she spoke.
“OMighty fal'cie Phoenix, I seek you so that I may govern in yourblessed name. Guide me to your knowing light so that I may humblygaze upon you.”
Shefelt stupid chanting the words, especially since she wasn’t quitesure how much she believed in them. Apparently belief didn’t matter,though, because the crystal suddenly blinded her – even though hereyes were still closed – and she had the sensation of movement. Itfelt like falling, but she was still upright. Lightning didn’t dareopen her eyes in case it broke some kind of spell. Sazh hadn’tmentioned any of this! She was definitely going to rant at himwhen she got back.
Ifshe got back.
Whenthings finally stilled, Lightning took a moment to breathe, her eyesstill closed. It was extremely unusual for her to just stand aroundand put herself in any sort of vulnerable position, but what wasn’tunusual about all of this?Surely a breather wasn’t out of line.
Therewas about ten second of silence before an unfamiliar rumbling noiseand a flash of head made her finally open her eyes. She could notcontain the gasp that ripped through her at what was before her.
“Phoenix.”
Thefal'cie was long and skinny on both ends, with smaller pieces of itsbody – was that a body? - extending from it. Whether theseparts were something otherworldly, nature, machine – she had noidea. In the middle it was round, filled with a light so bright thatshe couldn’t stare for long.
Itwas nothing like she had ever seen or imagined.
Ofcourse she had seen fal'cie before. Most everyone had. There weresmaller ones that worked in separate jurisdictions in Eden, doingvarious tasks like providing electricity or things for export. Notall of them in other kingdoms made themselves hidden, either. Theywere just a part of the landscape and a part of life thatnobody really took notice of them.
Nowshe understood why Phoenix was hidden away.
Itwas impossible not to take notice.
Lightningstepped forward unconsciously, not sure if she wanted to run towardsit or away. She felt dazed, which was not a sensation she wasa fan of, but what else could she do?
Therewas noise coming from the fal'cie, but she wasn’t sure if it wastrying to speak or if that was just how it sounded naturally. Surelysomething so massive and powerful couldn’t be completely silent.
Thesounds were like screams and whispers all at once, having thestrength to ruffle her gown and cape, but somehow not loud enough tohear. Something about it made her want to take a sword to the massivebeing in front of her, but who was she to deny the world of this?
Andthen it happened.
Phoenixcried out and a beam of light shot right towards her, too quickly toavoid. It scorched her chest, painful yet not. She could feel theswirls and intricacies of Phoenix’s brand, letting it become a partof her and she now was of it.
Blurry,hurried images flooded into her mind. Lightning vaguely recalledSerah mentioning Snow’s experience with his fal'cie, that the imagesbecame clearer with mutual understanding.
Butshe and Phoenix had no understanding. She still couldn’t tellwhether she hated it or wanted to give thanks. There was anunderlying buzz of Phoenix not knowing what to make of her, either –just that she was of the bloodline and she could ruleunscathed.
Theimages she saw were most of people she only vaguely recognized fromthe portraits in the palace – memories of her extremely distantancestors. Some were of the stars and moon, extensions of the fal'ciefrom even farther away than this. One image would come, only to beimmediately replaced by another, and she could make no real sense ofthem.
Untilthat moment.
“Hope?!”
Everythingwas still so fast, but now Lightning willed her mind to slow,anything so that she could sort out why Phoenix was showingher images of her personal bodyguard.
Shesaw Hope, handsome as ever, talking to a group of people in a glassbuilding that gleamed with perfection.
Anotherof him in a white and yellow outfit that seemed strangely familiar –but it wasn’t the garb he wore as her bodyguard.
Himtalking to a shorter woman who, again, seemed oddly familiar.
Hiseyes sliding to look at Phoenix.
Hishands working on something that could have been otherworldly, nature,or machine.
Hisgaze on her for a thousand different reasons, most worthy of asecret.
Hisshame as he ran off from her at ball.
Inthat instant, something clicked in Lightning’s mind, though her heartwas pounding and her breath was coming too fast to really sort itout. The images abruptly stopped and the brand on her chest cooled.
“Howdo you expect me to - ”
Shedidn’t get to finish her sentence before there was that sensation offalling again. Phoenix had dismissed her?! She’d survived itsjudgment, but for what?
Therewas no making sense of it. Time had no meaning.
Whenshe stopped falling, Lightning opened her eyes in a daze and emergedfrom the light, a bit surprised to see Sazh, but also -
“Hope,”she whispered, her heart pounding again. It was too much for her bodyand mind. Her knees shook and she pitched forward.
Butlike any good personal bodyguard, Hope raced to her, his eyes widewith panic as he caught her. She settled into his arms so easily –too easily.
“Light,”he said, her name hardly a gasp. His eyes darted to Phoenix’s brand,which was on the left side of her chest, impossible to miss againsther pale skin. “Light, why? Whydid you do it?”
She stared up at him, a thousandimages replaying in her mind in an instant. How could she possiblyput them together in a way that made sense?
But maybe shealready had.
Her hand reached up to shakily brushsome of his bangs from his worried face. Worried for who, shewondered?
“You’re not a bodyguard,” shemurmured.
Theneverything went black.

So I have written this hoperai au where the theme is what if Snow and Fang didn't arrive to rescue Hope and Lightning in Palumpolum
IT GETS DARK AT THE END
When Lightning told him to start running he took a step back
The cavarly started attacking in no time and as Hope saw Lightning fight, he decided to stay and help her defeat the soldiers. Just like he helped her defeat Odin.
Hope and Lightning critically got injured by PSICOM and monsters and their l'cie power just wasn't enough.
The rest of the party were still far away from them, so they had to keep going.
Lightning and Hope both collapsed down to the ground as a result of heavy physical damage.
Some time later, the rest of the Cavarly found them, and reported to Galenth Dysley. The Cavarly took them to the center to execute the L'cie.
Snow and the others saw these images in all electrical devices, so they picked the destination and hurried up.
When PSICOM was ready to lock the L'cie up, Hope had opened his eyes.
He saw Lightning a few meters before him, she was still unconcious, and as he was getting his vision back, he only could see soldiers taking her away from him.
He was trying to get away from the soldiers' arms, and started to scream her name over and over, but she didn't wake up.
The soldiers suddenly left a scar on his face as he was trying to escape.
However, Lightning finally could hear his struggle and has gone berserk.
The air was sparkling around her, rose petals were falling around her, and as she looked up from the ground, she slayed every soldier in that room.
(zenitsu feels)
She hit the ground again.
Hope rushed to her, but as soon as he tried to help her he was completely frightened.
There was only blood around her chest, especially the place where her l'cie mark lied.
The other soldiers were coming, so he lifted her, and started to run.
Dysley were watching them from behind, so he ordered the Cavarly to lock the front door and said to don't go after them, because he knew that one of those two will lose their live without the PSICOM's violence.
Hope immediately stopped running when he saw the doors closed. He knew they closed it on purpose.
Lightning started to speak, and said it's too late for her, and he should worry about himself now.
He also realized that he and her was out of medication stuff and they were too wounded to use cure.
Hope's last chance was to wait for Snow and the others.
He held Lightning in his arms and begged her to stay with him and hold on a little more
but Lightning only said
"You're gonna complete your Focus."
A few moments later, Snow and Fang could hear Hope's screaming.
They rushed to the direction they heard the voice from, and they were seeing a boy crying out loud, while he was holding a rose-haired girl's cheeks in his arms, tightly embracing her.

AU/Fanfiction
Description: A cute little moogle from another has come to this world to gather heroes that are called L'cie. They all would be granted powers that could stop the evil. With evil on the rise. It is up for the L'Cie girls to save the world.
Based on Sailor Moon and Glitter Force
⚡⚡L'cie Girls ⚡⚡
Chapter 1: Lightning part 1
⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
The sky was blue with a little bit of a breeze. It was getting quite humid very quickly.
A women stepped off of a train. She nice black high heels with a black dress. Her face was a little pale but the color on her lips were darkened. Her hair was pink.
"I wonder how Serah is doing?" She asked herself. While she was thinking, she thought of the past and how Serah's boyfriend didn't look good for Serah. She wondered what Serah saw in him. Was there something that Serah could see while no one else couldn't?
She had a briefcase with her. It held papers to a military facility. The paper showed the leader of the country. The old man's fingers looked to be pointing at her. She felt creeped out just by looking at it. She was only a security person in the military force, not some person to help a war between two countries.
She remembered that she would've been able to meet his Eminence Galenth Dysley, but she was busy that day as she was doing security for her home town.
The woman kept on walking. She wondered if the war between the two countries would ever stop. Could the two countries go on their own separate ways?
The woman felt like a zombie due to walking basically the same path everyday. But there was something on the path that was different today. It wasn't new concrete or the cut of the grass.
It was a animal or something, lying on the ground.
The woman looked at the creature. It was white and fuzzy. It had a very huge head compared to the rest of it's body.
She dropped down and got closer to the animal. She moved her hand slowly, ready to touch the animal. But something woke the animal up.
The animal's head shot up. A little pom pom was blinking on the top of it's head. The woman was shocked of it's sudden burst of energy.
The animal seemed to fly a little off ground. It's wings that looked like bat was hovering the animal off the ground.
"Where am I? Kupo." Said the strange animal. The woman was astounded. She went towards the animal and air flicked the animal. The animal looked at her, the eyes looked agitated.
"Don't do that, kupo! Do you know where I'm at?" Asked the animal. Something in the animals vocabulary reminded her of a fairy tale story.
"You're on the cut grass right by Bohdum City Transfer Station." Answered the woman. The creature looked at the woman.
"I'm far from home kupo. I know why, kupo." Said the creature sadly. The lady felt sad just by looking at the creature.
"I can try to get you back home... Uh-" the lady didn't know the name. The creature lifted a little clock staff into the air.
"I'm Mog, a moogle that will bring together heroes to stop all evil kupo." Said Mog. The lady smiled, she knew she had to say her name.
"I don't really tell my name, but my name is Lightning."
"Ohh, like the weather kupo?" Asked Mog. Lightning gave a little smile away. She got up and picked up the moogle.
"Do you know-" Lightning then stopped talking. The sky above them was turning into thunder clouds. The last time Lightning checked the weather, there wasn't supposed to be bad weather today.
"Uh no, Kupo!" Said Mog. His pom pom on his head was blinking.
"What's wrong?" Asked Lightning. Rain began to fall on her and the moogle. She hid the moogle to try for it not to get wet. But the moogle was freaking out.
"There are evil creatures here, kupo!" Yelled Mog. Mog took it's staff. The clock of the staff seemed to be pointing at the direction. The staff was pointing forward
"It's over there! Kupo!" Yelled Mog. Lightning knew that if she killed the evil that Bohdum would be safe. Serahs face showed in her mind like a flashing memory.
"Let's go!" Yelled Lightning. She ran back into the bus transfer station.

FFXV Lore Fabula Nova Crystallis AU
My first headcanons post ;u; This is my take on ffxv's lore through a Fabula Nova Crystallis (ffxiii + fft0 mythology) lense. I didn't reference Versus since much of that is vague and/or speculative. I hope to do a part 2 with some character specifics eventually.
I won't lie, it took me a while to work up the nerve to make this. I haven't written much beyond simple notes in ages, and never anything for FF. Regardless, this idea just wouldn't go away until I got it out.
I'm not sure about tagging, since I know opinions on FNC stuff can be rather...divided, lol. That said, I would like to give a shout out to @stephicness @neko-otaku13 @itshaejinju @ultimoogle and @blindbae for inspiring me to write this in the first place. Their AUs and headcanons are absolutely fantastic, and as said before are a huge inspiration.
The Astrals
Creations of Lindzei and Pulse, The Six serve as Eos' fal'cie.
Ramuh, Titan, and Leviathan are Pulse fal'cie.
They are typically more hands-off gods, seeing more to finding Etro's Gate through natural processes than interacting with humanity. One could compare the three to forces of nature.
Not known to create l'cie in modern times.
Once awakened, will give their blessings to Crystal l'cie able to complete their trials.
Bahamut, Shiva, and Ifrit are Lindzei fal'cie.
They are tasked with guiding and governing humanity in hope of finding Etro's Gate. The means through which they accomplish this duty is up to the individual fal'cie, however.
Two thousand years ago Bahamut and Shiva chose to guide humanity through the use of Messenger l'cie.
Ifrit, however, disagreed with the others' method. He believed humanity's demise, not prosperity, was the key to finding Etro's Gate.
Ifrit carried out his plan by unleashing a plague known as Starscourge.
This disagreement lead to a massive conflict, commonly know as The Great War of Old.
To fight this war the fal'cie created the firsts in a long line of special l'cie.
The Chosen Ones
To counter Ifrit's Starscourge Bahamut chose two individuals to serve as his l'cie: a man of Lucis and a woman of Tenebrae.
The Lucian man was tasked with fighting the beings corrupted by Starscourge with holy arms, as well as protecting a crystal gifted to him by Bahamut. To carry out these goals was his Focus.
The Tenebraen woman was also gifted the holy powers of light. In addition to these abilities Bahamut gave her his trident, so that she may have a direct link to the gods. To help purify the world and convene with the fal'cie was her Focus.
Using the Crystal he gifted the man, Bahamut would come to select a long line of Lucis and Tenebrae l'cie, all descendants of the original two.
As a final gift to his l'cie Bahamut created the Ring of the Lucii. It was to be the resting place of Lucis l'cie who have completed their Focus.

Note
How will the boys react when they find out s/o is made into l'Cie against their will; s/o then completes Focus and turned into crystal stasis (without the boys knowing what that Focus is)? (FFXIII AU I hope you don't mind! You don't have to answer this if you didn't play it yet)
I had to do quite a bit of research for this one, since I’m really only a fan of 15, but I think I got the gist of it…I think….(spoilers of end game, and DLC) ٩(•̤̀ᵕ•̤́๑)ᵒᵏᵎᵎᵎᵎ
Noctis
A scream, Noctis’ scream! That was the last thing you heard, before you own painful wail. Watching with tears in your eyes, as your body slowly became crystal. You had lost Noctis’ to the kingdoms crystal, and yourself had complete your  l’Cie Focus.
Only to feel everything crash around you, your body hurt, but you were alive! How! Noctis was your Focus by the gods, how did you…You only realized what was happening as you glanced up, Noctis was holding you safely in his arms, yet he looked so much older.
“Y/n?” A call echoed around you, as you glanced around, Ignis, Gladiolus, Prompto, all of them! They were all safe, but so much older.
“What happened?” You inquired, as you sat up in Noctis’ embrace, noticing you were all at at campsite.
“That’s what we’d like to know.” Gladiolus replied. “After Noct was sucked into that crystal, you were turned into a crystal yourself.”
You froze, your job wasn’t done yet, moving your hair from the side of your neck, you showed a gem in the shape of a crown, hidden behind your ear, the l’Cie’s mark not just underneath. “I am a l’Cie, my Focus, my job is to lead the Final King to his throne.”
“I’m sorry what?” Prompto called, “What’s a La cry?”
You moved from Noctis’ arms, “A l’Cie is a person that had a need to fulfill, mine is to see Noctis to the throne.”
“Can’t you just ignore it?” Noctis asked, as you shook your head. “What happens after you fulfill this purpose?”
You looked up tears in your eyes, “I don’t know, it’s the gods plan, Noctis I had no idea that it would be you.”
Noctis, placed his forehead against your own staring you in the eye, “We’ll find out together.”
You couldn’t help but cry, you knew what would happen after the Final king was lead to his throne, yet you couldn’t bare to think about it again. All within your crystal cocoon, you dreamt of your adventures with Noctis, you just couldn’t bare to think of placing that burden on the man.
*
“Come to me!” Noctis called.
You tried to be brave as you watched the man you loved sit upon a throne that was rightfully his. You tried to stop the tears as you watched the astral appear before him, yet they came as you watched him be ran through.
You powered through your tears, you powered through your body slowly becoming crystal. Each footstep getting heavier as you ascended the stairs to be at Noctis’ side. You cursed whatever god lead you to this horrid ending, you cursed yourself for falling in love with this man, and having him fall in love with you in return.
Your body collapsed onto the throne, turning the man’s head to yourself, those blue eyes never to show you that bright light again. Cradling his face in your hands, you pulled him close to give him one more kiss, only to be denied that, as you were both engulfed in your crystal status, your lips barely ghosting across his.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Prompto
“I don’t want this, I don’t want this, I don’t want this.” You muttered repeatedly, your heart hurt so bad as you scratched at your L’Cie brand on your wrist. You weren’t even certain of just how long that you’d be able to stay. Your focus was to help Prompto with Noctis. He was one of the choosen to set the King to his throne.
When Ardyn had forced Noctis into the crystal, and you didn’t turn into crystal, you had to admit you were happy, the gods couldn’t use you, but the grief all of you felt at missing such a key part of your group was too much to bare. Those ten years in the darkness, they were to come to an end, because Noctis was back.
Yet that also meant so was your time with Prompto.
“Y/N, what’s wrong?” Prompto asked, you had requested he meet you alone for just a few moment, prior to the start of the final battle.
You turned, embracing the man tightly, your face buried in his chest as you cried, “I love you so much Prompto.”
“Sweetie,”
“Thank you for loving me, thank you for being with me, thank you for making me yours, and yours alone.” You cried, all your words coming out. “I…I didn’t want this, I want our lives to be long, and happy.”
Prompto’s arms embraced you tightly, “What’s wrong?”
You pulled back, fishing in the front of your shirt to pull out your crystal within the shape of a gun, “I, I’m a L’Cie?’
“You’re talking like you’re some kind of mystical creature.”
“Prompto, I won’t be able to join you on your final mission, I won’t even last the night.” You cried, as you forced the gold gun like stone into his hand. “Please, Prompto, live a happy life.”
Prompto gather you in his arms, as he held you close, “I don’t know what’s going on, but is there a way to stop this?”
You shook your head, “I don’t…no…” You cry not wanting to hold onto the hope that there was some way. “Please Prompto, please just hold me, until it stops.”
Prompto nodded, he had just gotten his best friend back, now to lose you too. The man cried, as he held you tightly to his chest, he cried as your body became stiff, and he cried as a wall of crystal formed between you two.
~~~~~
Gladiolus
Gladiolus sat within his folding chair at the campsite, he was suppose to be happy, he was suppose to be more powerful, but he couldn’t stop this. He couldn’t stop this “Focus”, this curse that happened to you.
A note clinched tightly in his hand, your final words to him, all because he completed that trail.
My strong Gladiolus,
I had wish that I had told you this sooner, I will not be with you long. By the time you return I will be gone, my job, my focus done. I am a L’Cie, I explained it to Ignis, he’ll be able to fill you in.
Please don’t get mad, I know that you’re upset right now, yet I need you to be strong. Not for me, but for the boys, and for Noct, and Iris.
Oh Iris, tell her I’m sorry, I won’t be able to make it to her graduation. I know she’s going to grow up to be a wonderful woman, because she has a big brother like you.
Gladiolus, I love you so very much, and maybe if the gods see fit, maybe we can be together again. Maybe we can have that happy ending. You are so very strong My Shield, please protect your sister and your brothers. Please don’t ever think that I’m not dreaming of you, or that my heart could ever beat so strongly for anyone else.
I love you, Gladiolus Amicitia!
Gladiolus wasn’t sure of how many times he had read the last note you left him. Yet he knew that after he dealt with this Ardyn character he would find a way to bring you back.
“I promise, babe.”
~~~~~~
Ignis
“Ignis, my love.” You cooed, he was a little worse for the wear, but that was to be expected, you all had just finished the largest fight of your life for all of Eros.
Ignis turned his blind eyes to you, reaching out as he cupped your face. “How are you faring, my dear?”
You smiled softly, you had managed to divert the gods plans slightly, by making certain of Noctis survival, but still you would not be able to fix what followed. “I have, had better days. Are you hungry?”
“Y/N, you have been acting strange, since the end of the fight,” He stated. “Are you injured?”
You glanced at the horizon, seeing the sky turning to a soft purple, you didn’t have long, “Ignis it’s too much to explain at this point and our time is growing very short. My love, thank you for making me such a proud wife. I could not have wished for anything better.”
Ignis made to respond, only to stop as he felt you press your lips against his. The man wrapped his arms around you, holding you tight as you trembled in the kiss. Breaking the kiss Ignis removed his glasses, that single eye staring down at you.
“My heart, I do not know as to what circumstances are to pull us apart, but let it be known, I will fight gods for you.”
You couldn’t find your words as you looked to the man you called husband, everything he promised always came true. “I love you, my husband.”
Ignis pulled you into another kiss, “I love you, my wife, please understand that I will not be too long.”
“I will be waiting.” You smiled, stepping away.
Ignis hands reached out, his blind eye was only able to see movements and your silhouette was moving out of his vision. He instead felt your arms, as they slowly dragged down his, your fingertips ghosting over each other, before he felt nothing.
“I love you.” You cried, before becoming silent.
Ignis stepped forward, as his hand touched a large piece of crystal, he felt he could almost make out your body within the center, resting his forehead against the crystal, Ignis allowed himself to weep as the sun rose over Eros for the first time in 10 years.
“I love you too.”
Sisters and Cousins (Ordinary Heroes AU Snippet)
Averia was not happy. She was extremely not happy. Her sister had managed to outdo herself this time. It was bad enough that Diana and their Aunt Vanille had built a time machine, but they’d actually decided to test the damn thing… and now Averia and Diana were stuck in the past.
Given the fact that Cocoon was still in the sky, they were at least thirty years in the past. It could even be more than that although the scar on Cocoon suggested that they couldn’t be too far back.
“Well,” Diana said. “It could be worse. We’re not dead.”
Averia turned slowly. Worse? Worse? “The time machine is broken!” Averia growled. “How are we going to fix it? Most of the parts we need haven’t even been invented yet!”
“Relax.” Diana backed away. “I know how to fix it. Heck, I could probably cobble something workable together out of what’s on a standard transport.”
“Do you see a transport anywhere?” Averia hissed. “Do you?”
“No… but if worse comes to worst, I’ll just have to go back to basics. You know, I’ll start with fire and work my way all the way up to temporal distortion technology. It’ll take me… maybe… a couple of years tops.”
Averia fought the urge to scream. She failed.
X     X     X
“Do you hear screaming?” Vanille asked. “I mean… human screaming?”
Lightning frowned. “Yes… I do. It’s just over that hill.”
“Should we check it out?” Snow asked. “What if they sent more PSICOM after us?”
“I don’t think that’s PSICOM,” Fang said. “That sounds more like someone getting strangled.”
X     X     X
Averia was in the process of strangling her sister when she noticed people peering down at them from the top of a nearby hill. She immediately stopped strangling her sister - only to resume when she saw exactly who those people were.
“We’re doomed!” Averia growled. “Doomed! Do you see them? Our parents are there. This is their journey as l’Cie. There is absolutely no way we won’t create a temporal paradox and wipe out the universe.”
“Uh, technically,” Diana said, prying Averia’s hands off her throat. “We can’t do that. Due to… various things, the universe itself will act to prevent any temporal paradox. We’ll be fine.”
Averia was going to go back to strangling Diana when there was a rush of movement, and she found herself staring down the length of Fang’s spear.
“Get off her, right now,” Fang drawled. Her eyes flicked to Diana. “You’re Yun, right?”
Averia made a face. Of course, her mom would say that. Diana was wearing a sari, and she had the characteristic Yun features. She got off Diana and backed away.
“Oh, thank you,” Diana cried, hopping onto her feet. “I’m so glad to meet one of my clanswomen out here. I thought I might be stuck with that… miscreant.”
Averia’s eyes narrowed. Diana moved her head over so slightly. Averia’s eyes narrowed some more. Diana moved her head again. So that was the plan? That was so stupid…
“Hey,” Vanille said. “You look a lot like Fang. You could almost be sisters.”
“Wait!” Diana cried in seeming surprise. “You’re not Oerba Yun Fang, are you?”
Fang shrugged. “And if I am?”
“Well… we really are sisters then!” Diana struck a pose. “You see, during the War of Transgression, I found out that I had a sister named Oerba Yun Fang. I journeyed near and far to find her, but before I could find her, something happened, and I found myself stuck in a crystal. I only managed to break out of it yesterday, but then I ran into her.” She pointed at Averia. “Based on her weird clothing, I assumed she was from up there.” She pointed at Cocoon.
“Hold on.” Fang shook her head. “I don’t have a sister. I’m pretty sure I would know if I did.”
“Are you super sure?” Diana darted over to Fang and stood next to her. “Look how similar we are. We could almost be twins.”
“She does have a point, Fang.” Vanille giggled. “Other than having blue eyes, she really does look like you.”
“Yeah,” Sazh said. “She’s right. You really could be twins although I guess her hair is a little bit spikier than yours.”
Fang frowned. “I’m not saying I believe you, but you definitely do look like me.” She said something quickly in Pulsian. “You should know what that means if you’re really Yun.”
Diana rolled her eyes and then replied in flawless Pulsian of her own. “How’s that?”
Fang’s eyes widened. “You even speak Pulsian with the same quirks as someone from Oerba…” She turned to Averia. “So… what’s your story?”
Averia sighed. “Would you believe I’m here because of my…” She sighed again. “Cousin?”
“Cousin?” Fang raised one eyebrow. “And whom would that be?”
Averia sighed again and gestured at her face and hair. “How many people do you know with hair this shade of pink and features like these?”
Fang turned to Lightning. “You have a cousin now?”
“No. I don’t.” Lightning turned the full force of her Farron Death Glare on Averia. “I’m sure that I don’t.”
Averia decided to respond as only a Farron would. She returned fire with her own Farron Death Glare. “Yes, pink-haired people with features like yours just fall out of trees every day.”
“Oh, boy,” Snow muttered. “They’re definitely related.”
Hope nodded. “They do look really similar. If I didn’t know better, I’d say they were sister, maybe even twins, instead of cousins, except her eyes are green and Lightning’s are blue.”
“This makes zero sense,” Sazh murmured. “We have sisters and cousins appearing out of nowhere now?”
“Look,” Fang said. “Who knows what’s going on. Frankly, if they’re willing to help us, maybe we should bring them along. At this point, everybody else is trying to kill us.” She nodded at Diana. “What’s your name?”
Diana smirked. “My name is… Oerba Yun Claw.”
“Claw?” Fang made a face. “What kind of name is Claw?”
“What kind of name is Fang?”
“Good point.”
Lightning marched up to Averia and tried to stare her down. For a long moment, the two pink-haired women just glared at each other. “You, what’s your name?”
Averia smirked. “Claire Farron.”
Lightning twitched. “You don’t say…”
“I think Claire is a wonderful name. It’s so nice, compassionate, and caring.”
More glaring. Lots more glaring.
Finally, Lightning turned on her heel. “Let’s go… and what is that thing over there?”
“Oh, that?” Diana glanced at the time machine. “That’s a… machine that we found here. Mysteriously. We should probably take it somewhere safe, you know, in case it turns out to be handy.”
X     X     X
Diana blithely ignored the daggers her sister was glaring into her back in favour of watching her future parents bicker around the campfire. It was so adorable. Fang would verbally prod Lightning and then smirk. Lightning would snap back and then glare. How romantic.
“Kiss!” Diana whispered, loudly enough for everyone to hear. “Kiss!”
“What?” Lightning rumbled.
“Well… it just seems that you two have a lot of unresolved sexual tension. You should probably deal with that.” Diana nodded sagely and gestured at the bushes on the other side of the camp. “You can go handle that over there while we finish dinner over here.”
Lightning’s eye twitched.
"Just… don’t bother,” Averia drawled. “I’ve known her for what feels like forever, but this is just how she is.”
“I thought you just ran into her today,” Fang said.
“Believe me, a day around her feels like forever.”
“I can imagine,” Lightning ground out. “But, just so we’re clear, there is no unresolved sexual tension between me and Fang. She and I will never, ever be sexually or romantically involved. Ever.”
“Wow,” Fang said. “Harsh.”
“Is that so?” Diana’s eyes gleamed. “How about this… if you’re wrong, you have to name your second daughter after me. Claw Yun-Farron has a nice ring to it.”
“Fine, whatever.” Lightning scoffed. “As if that’s going to happen.”
Running All Night pt.2
They departed from the Crown City as soon as the rest of the team arrived. It wasn’t a huge team. A group of five with Luche included. All of them Kingsglaive and each of them had a job to do while they stayed in the Empire. But even that was classified just in case. Luche understood, Titus had explained to him that his job on this mission was merely to collect all information he could get his hands on about the empire, the condition of its people and their Military along with weapon plans. All things he usually collected with ease. Though, it had never been right from the Empire’s capitol, from bases and outposts was one thing. This was something completely different. They had been on the road for a few days now. he looked down at his phone, sighing in slight frustration that it was now nearing sunset. They made quick work on getting to Altissia and from there getting to Cartanica train station. Currently, Luche was looking down at his phone, his thumb seeming to hover over the call button on the said phones screen. With a shake of his head, he smiled, pressing the button and pressing the phone to his ear.
“I was wondering when you were gonna call me,” the sound of the other male’s voce naturally brought a smile to Luche’s face. “God do you realize how long you’ve kept me waiting? Huh mister? Shame on you. shame on you, Luche Lazarus.” Now that earned Nyx a laugh.
“Honestly, I should hang up on you,” Luche stated as he leaned back in his seat, staring out the window of the train as he kept going down the tracks, for now, it was all desert sands with the setting sun in the background giving the sky its orange hue color to the entire area. The sight was beautiful, breathtaking even. Sure, it wasn’t Galahdian sunsets, but it was still nice. “How are things in the City? Everyone holding up okay?” he heard Nyx chuckle along with a few voices in the background, he could make out Crowe’s easily. Along with the sound of something or several somethings falling over. “Nyx Ulric my apartment better be in one piece when I get back.” He could hear the other man laugh, making the side blue-eyed male roll his eyes.
“Boy scout’s honor the apartment-“Nyx was cut off by the sound of loud laughter and several shouts of his name along with several forms of greetings. He rolled his eyes, but the fond look, the warm feeling in his chest betrayed the eye roll. Days away from the others was a vacation, but he did also miss their constant playful banters and the days they would all just spend a night on the town drinking, eating and poking fun at each other. “Six, okay well, it will be okay by the time you get back.” Luche scoffed, not believing him, but knowing the others would help him clean if need be. “To answer your question, everything has been good on this end, just waiting for you guys to get to where you need to get to. How’s everything on your end?”
He had opened his mouth to answer but the screeching of the trains wheels against the rails immediately cut him off. He winced at the loud noise and stood up, looking out the window. He eyed the slowing scenery, he looked over at where the other Kingsglaive had decided to sit, and all of them seemed to be on guard. “Well, it had been fine,”
“Had been?”
“Yes, had been-“the said man was quick to duck down behind the seats when bullets started to break through the glass windows. He scooted over to the edge of the seat, peaking out and watching as the rest of the team seemed to be doing the same. He could hear screams from some of the civilians on board I the other cars. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” he said, standing up after the hellfire of bullets stopped coming in through the windows. When he peaked outside he couldn’t stop the wide-eyed expression that found its way on his face. the sight of the Empire’s army of Magitek soldiers standing on each side of the train was the last thing he had been expecting. “Son of a- get down!” he shouted to the others, the last thing he heard was a deafening explosion before everything around him went dark.
000
“Hello? Lu?” Nyx asked, the phone pressed to his ear, behind him, Crowe’s eyes narrowed as she stood up slowly, walking to stand next to the older glaive. “Luche? Luche, hey what’s-“he had to pull his phone away from his ear as sudden loud pops made him wince. But what shook him to his core was the shout of Luche ordering people to get down before the loud explosion cut everything off. He stood there, staring blankly at the phone in his hand.
“Nyx? Nyx, what happened?” Crowe asked, coming up next to him and placing a hand on his shoulder. Though from the look on his face, it was clear that whatever had just happened was not a good thing. His lack of a reaction to her calling his name worried her. with a glare, she lifted her hand and slapped his cheek. This seemed to snap Nyx out of his trance before he looked to her and the others in the apartment with panic. “Nyx, what happened? What did he say?”
“I don’t- the call cut off. The train- shit! Pelna, where is the captain?” he asked, turning to the dark-skinned male who gave him a look of confusion and concern.
“He’s at the Citadel in a meeting with the king, why? What’s going on? You look like the world just ended, or that Luche dumped you.” he explained.
The group watch as the man ran a hand through his hair before rushing off to grab his coat then pull his boots on. There had only been one other time when the phone call cut off like that when he and Luche were speaking to each other and that had been when the said man was out on deployment like now. it had been due to a sudden raid by the empire had the phone cut like that, yes Luche came out of it alive and well, nothing more then a few bullet grazes here and there but nothing serious. however, this time around, was a different feeling. Something in his gut along with the sound of gunfire in the background chilled Nyx down to the bone. if something had happened, then he would need to get to the captain and inform him of what he had just heard. Nyx didn’t waste time after he managed to slip his boots on before he ran out the door and down the street, yes, he was very aware he was probably freaking the others out, and he was sure they would follow him to find out what he was so put off by. Though, none of that mattered in the moment, in his mind, he needed to get to Titus, he needed to inform him and try to find out what had just happened and where Luche was.
He had lost Selena already, he couldn’t bear to lose Luche as well, not after everything they’ve been though and not because of some idiot mission that the Crown truly believed it would be worth risking the lives of a handful of Kingsglaive for.  Nyx wasn’t even entirely sure how long it took him to finally reach the citadel much less how many people and guards he pushed past to reach the throne room. But he did notice the look of confusion and slight anger on the faces of the council and the captain himself. “What in the name of the Six are you lot doing barging in like that?” Nyx turned his head slightly, not one bit shocked that the rest of the glaive had followed him. though he also didn’t miss just how angry the captain was and he didn’t miss the glare on his face either. “Well!?”
“Sir, something’s happened to Luche and his team-“Nyx finally spoke, up, this caught the attention of everyone in the room. “he called me to check in on how things were going here in the city. It had been fine but-“he stopped talking when the man held his hand up and looked up to the king. said king seemed to understand what the Captain was asking without the words needing to be said. He watched, desperately and nervously as the older man turned his attention back to the glaive in the room. His eyes drifted to each of them, seeming to debate on choice. “Tredd and Axis get your things and meet me in the briefing room. The rest of you go home. I’ll keep you updated as needed-“
“As needed!? What kind of bullshit-“ Nyx started, stopping when Crowe placed a hand on his chest and stepped in front of him. a silent warning that she and Luche had come up with whenever Nyx seemed to start losing his temper. “Crowe,”
“Don’t, relax. I get it, you’re worried but so are the rest of us.” She scolded, but the look on her face betrayed her tone, she was clearly scared of what could have happened to their childhood friend. The two had become like brother and sister after ignis had been brought to the City. She gladly stepped in to be the sibling he didn’t know that he needed in his life. Nyx stared down at her, then looked up where the captain, Tredd and Axis were walking out of the room. “Nyx, it’s going to be okay,”
“God I hope so…” he mumbled, she sighed moving her hand to his shoulder and squeezing it before she turned her attention note the king, sweeping her fist over her chest and bowing.
“We apologize for the disruption, your majesty.” She stated, the others following her lead as they mimicked the action. She waited until the king nodded, before she straightened out and swiftly turned around, making her way out of the large room with the others following briskly behind her.
“Nyx Ulric,” the king called, this made the man stop in his tracks immediately, turning on his heel to look at the ruler of their kingdom. “Stay a few moments, will you? there is something I need to discuss with you.” though it was phrased as a question, Nyx didn’t miss the undertone order of it, the blue-eyed male nodded. He gave Crowe a reassuring smile before she walked out of the room, the doors closing behind her. Nyx took a deep breath and turned his attention back to the King was now standing up, making his way down the stairs, his shield following ever loyally. “If you called you, then im assuming you must know his secret.” There was no malice or anger in the older man’s tone, so Nyx took that as a good sign. “Yes, keeping it a secret has not been easy, not on him especially.”
“Then why keep it that way, Majesty?” he asked, his tone full of confusion, the king looked up as the set of doors opened again and walking in was Ignis himself with the son of Tenebrae at his side. “Lord Scientia, Highness,” Nyx greeted, Ignis though seemed to ignore him as he rushed up to the king. Regis was quick to put his hands on the younger male’s shoulders, whispering to him. he seemed to be talking the future advisor from what looked like a panic attack. “Is everything alright?” Nyx asked, looking to Ravus who turned his attention to him before shaking his head.
“I fear not. I have just received word that the Train from Cartanica was ambushed on the tracks and attacked by the Empire’s soldiers.” At that, Nyx’s heart sank when he turned to look at the king, he could see Ignis didn’t look like he was doing much better at all despite the king’s efforts to reassure him. “As of now, we do not know the extent of the damage. The soldiers haven’t left the area and with everything set ablaze we cannot get our men in close enough to see who made it off alive, dead, unharmed or harmed. Ignis was with me when I got the news, im not sure what has him rattled, but it does. As soon as he was asked to come here to speak with the king, he came as fast as he could.”
“And you?” Ravus sighed.
“I never leave his side when he is in such a state.”
“Thank you for coming, Ravus. Now, as you all may know, Ignis is not the only L’Cie here,” the king started explaining, Ignis stayed close to the older mans side, eyeing him with such a look of worry and hurt. Nyx was sure he was in no different situation, he sighed, reaching over and placing his hand on the younger man’s shoulder, squeezing it. Ignis glanced at him and gave him, though forced, a small smile. “Luche is our second L’Cie, has been for a while now. a few days ago, he was given a mission to get into the Empire’s capitol, blend in and collect all information possible in the hopes of us having the ability to reclaim the lands that were taken from us.”
“Yeah, he told me…said he would be gone for about three months or so,” Nyx added, Regis nodded, though he looked somber now, almost as if he regretted his decision in sending in the team of Kingsglaive. “Please don’t tell me he was on that train,” the king remained silent, Nyx’s hands curled into fists, his knuckles going white. “Majesty, please, please tell me Luche wasn’t on that train, tell me you didn’t send my boyfriend on a mission just to die on a fucking train!” he shouted now.
“I apologize, Nyx Ulric. But for now, we do not know how many people perished in that attack. We have no choice but to wait.” He stated, for a long while, the room was silent. Nyx kept his head hung low, his fits clenched tightly, Ravus stood there, face not expressing any emotion, and ignis, well, he didn’t seem to take the silence well before he turned and started to storm out of the room.
“Ignis,” Ravus called, following the other quickly, Nyx looked up and sighed. He stayed, knowing right now, Ignis didn’t need him to try and reassure him.
“He had been the one to volunteer to go on this assignment,” Regis said slowly, Nyx blinked and looked up at him. “He had asked me to send him, saying that he would have a good chance at gathering what information we need. Perhaps I was a fool for allowing it, but he wouldn’t take no for an answer. I pray that he is unharmed and comes homes safely. For your sake, and ignis’ as well.” A hand patted his shoulder firmly before the King walked past him, his shield following leaving Nyx alone in the now overly large room.
Losing Selena had been devastating. He still had trouble getting over that, it was no secret to anyone who was close to him. but to potentially lose Luche? How long had he known the man? few years now? he had met Luche when both were just kids. The two had met purely on chance when Nyx ran into the brown-haired boy as a baby brother in arms with their mother when she happened to stop by and ask Nyx’s own parents about a few things. he supposed that’s where his fascination with the boy started, he was…well put together and rather smart, and respectful for a kid so young. It didn’t take much after that to find out where he lived and start socializing with him, it wasn’t easy at first. Luche was hard to even get a few words out of him, but one day did stand out to Nyx, and it had been a day he had managed to get a full-bodied laugh out of the younger male. It slipped his mind what he had done or said, but the sound of the other boy laughing, arms wrapped around his middle as he was hunched over, and close to tears with just how hard he was laughing, it was a sight that Nyx was sure it was then he realized that he liked the boy, more then a friend probably would. Since then, Nyx had made it his mission to get the boy to giggle or laugh at least once or a few times in a day. This lasted for years, and though out the years, he had only fallen more in love with the brown-haired male. Until finally, they were eighteen and both had decided to ditch classes that day and found themselves skipping rocks along the lake they deemed their hang out spot. They started with small talk, they often found it comfortable to sit in silence, since both knew Luche would end up humming some random little song he knew.
That day however had been different, he didn’t start the usual humming, he looked almost nervous. By the time Nyx had finally decided to ask him what was bothering him, he was pulled into a rough but quick kiss before he watched Luche step away from him. The poor guy had a look of fear, worry and apprehensiveness on his face that just broke Nyx’s heart, and he was sure that Luche would have ran for the hills after that if he had not grabbed him by the writs, pulled him back against his chest and kissed him again. that’s when they started dating and hadn’t stopped since. Yes, they had their ups and downs, but it was never anything that would ruin their relationship enough to were they would split up. since then, they stuck by each other’s side, supporting one another when it was needed most.  Luche was never far from him, and he was never far from Luche. And now…
Now he was here, in a large city, in a large citadel without any idea as to how Luche was doing, or if he was still even alive. All he could hope was that the man was smart enough to take cover somewhere he would take minimum to no damage. But even so, life wasn’t fair like that. not all the time.
000
First thing he noticed when he woke up was the ringing in his ears, the sound of muffled voices, and that he was sure he was being dragged away. He didn’t last long awake though before he once again passed out. When he woke a second time, he noticed hot, searing pain up his right ribcage and right leg. When he tried to move his arms, he was confused when he couldn’t bring them down from their up position. With much difficulty, Luche glanced up and frowned in further confusion at the sight of his right hand seeming to be fastened to a metal object. He turned to look to his left and found his other hand in the same position though, it wasn’t held against a metal back, it was held up by something else that had a long scalpel like object uncomfortably close to his now exposed L’Cie brand. His eyes widened, as the situation started to sink in slowly. Where was he? Who had him? where was the rest of the team? Had they survived? How much damage had he taken? All these questions kept running though his head so much so that he had failed to realize that he was no longer alone in this cell or room he was in.
It was only by the slamming of the door that startled him out of his thoughts. Luche was quick to look up, his eyes narrowing at the sight of two soldiers and what appeared to be a scientist of sorts. All he could think of now was that this was not going to go well for him, and considering how they had him chained up, it was clear that they knew exactly who he was and what he can do if he was free. He eyed the three people carefully, following their movements as they seemed to look at something on the computer screen in front of them. it felt like hours before the man in the white lab coat finally turned his attention to him, Luche’s glare only intensified when the man gave him an unimpressed look. He growled slightly when the said man moved to look at his left wrist, and yes, he got a sick joy out of when the man jumped back when Luche tried to lung at him, to only succeeding in making what was holding him back rattle with the force he used.
Though, the feeling of satisfaction was short lived when the nameless man flicked a switch on the monitor, the said object he was strapped to suddenly pulled him back, so he was right up against it. he groaned at the force, it was clear he had some serious injuries that needed to be tended to whenever and if he got out of here.  he barely had anytime to think over what they were going to do before a pulsing but burning pain rushed through his body. he immediately let out cries and shouts of pain, it felt like it lasted forever before the pain was gone as quickly as it came. It left him panting, head hung low.
“There, that should do it. now, I need to see what I can find on that interesting little mark on his wrist. Try to see what information you two can get out of him.” Luche’s growled, though that was cut short when he felt something jabbed into his side, once again feeling the same, burning and pulsing pain as before. “And do try not to kill him before we get information out of him, otherwise its going to be you two next on the testing.” Luche was sure these guys were getting off on just shocking him with mere seconds of rest between each session. Maybe a few minutes passed of them just doing this before he finally just shagged against his restraints. Panting trying to catch his breath and his muscles aching from the electrical shocks.
Luche did manage a growl however when one man grabbed his face in a rough grip, forcing him to look up.  “Well, we know Lucis sent you, but for what? what are you here for?” said Glaive only raised a brow at them, keeping silent. “Why. Did. They. Send. You?” the man asked, his grip tightening on his face. At this Luche glared, though he would admit he was proud with how quickly and easy it was for these soldiers to lose their cool, if the punch to his face was anything to go by. With his head now jerked to the side from the force, he could feel blood trickle down from a cut on his cheekbone.
“Can you at least show some self-control? This bastard is getting of on how easily hes pissing you off.” Luche scoffed and gave a small nod in confirmation. That earned him a punch to his gut, making him gasp for the air that was just knocked out of him. “Case in point. Im going to go wait out the door. You keep trying to see if you can make him talk.” Luche rolled his eyes but soon locked gazes with the soldier in front of him. he wasn’t unaware of their methods of trying to get people to talk, it was heard about all the time over the news back I the crown city.
However, he had never experienced it himself, and thank the six, neither had any of his eight companions. “You are a stubborn bastard, aren’t you?” it was a rhetorical question Luche knew, if the pressing of an electrical rod to his side was anything go by that is. “Why is I have a feeling this is going to be a long night? Are all you Kingsglaive like this?” when the shocked stopped, he was once again left hanging limply from the metal restraints. Though taking deep breaths only sent stabbing pains up his side, so he stuck with small, quick ones. “Why did your king send you? what are you here for?” his lack of a response to the question asked made the man sigh.
“Alright, suit yourself, kid. This would have been avoided.”
Running All Night pt.3
“These were all we could find,” Nyx lifted his head, his gazed landed on the captain who was holding a box out to him and Ignis who was sitting on his right, dead silent, head hung low. The man didn’t even flinch when a drop of water landed on his face. He hesitated before slowly reaching up and taking the box into his hands. “It’s not much, but it is better then nothing.” even Titus sounded somber, upset. Despite being part of the Kingsglaive much longer then Nyx, and no matter how much more experience he had, the older man felt the loss of one of his best men deeply. Hell, it wasn’t even because he was a subordinate, Luche was their friend. He was the one in their group who always made sure they were well fed, well rested or even just in good spirits. Nyx rested the box on his lap, he took a glance to Ignis who didn’t seem to even want to look at the box, or anyone but the floor in front of him.
“Was it worth it, Captain…?” Ignis asked, tone low and so full of sadness and hurt. It made Nyx flinch a bit, Ignis usually was good with hiding his emotions, but when it came to family and friends, that wasn’t the case. Because here he was, so broken, so sad, feeling so alone despite the friends he had and despite the lover who was ever loyally at his side.  “Was the mission worth it?” all three stayed silent for what seemed like several minutes before the Captain took in a deep breath and exhaled before speaking.
“I’ll make sure no one interferes with the investigation.” That was the last thing he said before the man turned and walked away. Nyx looked down at the box on his lap, it was closed, and he was sure that maybe Ignis would be the one who had more right to it then he did, after all, Ignis is- was Luche’s younger brother. Nyx leaned closer to the younger male when he heard a small sniffle escape the green-eyed male, when their shoulders brushed, Ignis was quick to lean against him completely. Both closed their eyes, ignoring how the dark clouds that loomed over the Crown city finally let go of the rain they held. A clear, but stereotypical indication of just how upsetting this day was, at least Nyx thought so. Minutes passed, the rain only got worse. Nyx could feel Ignis shaking next to him, reaching out he laced their fingers together, giving the younger male’s hand a reassuring squeeze. There was nothing he could say that would make either of them better, Nyx knew that, perhaps he would be the only one who knew that. perhaps he was the only one who would understand the pain Ignis was feeling right now.
“Nyx? Ignis?” Nyx wanted to ignore the calling of their names, but with the tone he knew ignoring Crowe wouldn’t help anyone, so he opened his eyes and turned his head in the direction of her voice. “Do you two want to come inside? Or want some company?” she asked, to tell the truth, no he didn’t want to go inside, and no, he didn’t want company, but he couldn’t speak for the future Advisor.
“Well, do you want either of those things?” he asked softly, pressing his lips to the other’s temple, he felt the younger man shake his head instantly. “No, but thanks for the offer Crowe.” He replied, turning to look back down at the sealed box on his lap, wrapping his arm around the still silently crying male. Nyx startled when he noticed the droplets of rain stopped hitting his body, he looked up and wasn’t in the least bit shocked to see Ravus standing over the two, holding an umbrella over their forms. He gave the man a weak but forced smile. he didn’t get one from the other man.
“It’s alright to feel hurt. To mourn over the loss of a loved one,” he started, looking at Ignis who had yet to look up once since he and Nyx arrived to the Kingsglaive HQ. “But, I wouldn’t advise making yourself Ill.” The man took a knee in front of Ignis, reaching out and placing his hand on his back, gently rubbing there. Nyx opened his mouth to respond, but the weight and someone wrapping his arms around his shoulders stopped him from speaking. He blinked a few times before it hit him who it was exactly. He smiled a sad smile, his eyes stinging as he placed a hand over the arms pulling him into a hug. At that moment, he finally let the tears fall, unlike Ignis though, his crying wasn’t silent and the hands that fell on his shoulders, head, neck, cheek and knees didn’t help the issue.
This was one of the many times that Nyx was grateful for having the Kingsglaive as part of his family, because with the loss of his sister and now the love of his life, he truly did feel like he had no one left.
Keeping track of time while being beaten just about every other day was impossible. At least it had become impossible after four days. Luche had given up after four days of trying to keep count just how long he had been trapped here. throughout his time here however, they had never once stopped questioning him about why he was sent. Though he wasn’t proud to admit that their methods got brutal and made him nervous whenever they came to get him. their most recent method? To start cutting away layer by layer of skin where his L’Cie brand was located. His screams of pain where not something he was proud of, but he was proud over the fact that he never allowed any information slip from his mouth. Now, Luche found himself leaning against the dark colored wall of the cell he was held in, his eyes where closed, giving off the appearance that he was dead asleep. His breathing was shallow and little quicker than normal.
“Still showing symptoms I presume?”
“Yes, infections of the wounds he has seemed to have made him ill.” At the sound of voices, Luche opened his eyes, letting them drift over to the two men standing in front of the cell. He gave them a blank expression, his eyes narrowed slightly when one allowed his eyes to drift to his left wrist which he kept cradled to his chest. “He’s what is called a L’Cie, humans branded and picked the Fal’Cie who once ruled over this world many, many centuries ago,” one man started explaining as he punched in a code on the small keypad by the cell doors, his glare only intensified when the said door slid open, allowing two soldiers to walk in. normally he would have fought back, but last time he had they managed to dislocate his right knee. And that was a whole different type of pain, so this time around he allowed himself to be hauled up to his feet before being lead down the dimly lit hallways of the facility. “If it wasn’t the Fal’Cie, it was the Crystals of the time. There was once a total of four, each one looked after by a different kingdom. Each one giving its L’Cie different magic abilities. Though, over time, all but one Crystal survived the passage of time, and eventually, with the dying of the three Crystals, the need for L’Cie became obsolete. Thus, new ones were never picked again. that is,” the man paused, once again entering a code into a keypad next to a set of heavy metal doors.
Luche frowned as he watched the all too familiar doors slid open with a loud hiss. Inside the room was the same as it always was, the same device he was first strapped to sat in the middle of the room, clean as usual. Even if he wanted to fight back against the soldiers as they got him once again restrained, but with the injuries he had and with how weak he felt right now, there was no chance that he could get away. He winced when his arms were pinned up above his head, a sharp pain shot up his left ribcage, he had almost forgotten that they fractured and or broke two or three ribs. “Until you and one other man made your existence own to the Crystal your beloved king protects. That’s when it decided, for whatever odd reason, it needed two. No more, no less.” Luche felt his blood run cold, that’s right, he had forgotten that Ignis’ being a L’Cie was not a secret. He stayed ever silent, only grunting in pain when his left wrist was fastened tightly into place. “Which then brings up the very important question; Why two? And of all the people in the world, it picked two plebeians.”
For once, Luche scoffed, shaking his head for a moment before he glanced down at his feet. He blinked in surprise as the two soldiers walked out of the room with a wave from the scientists’ hand. Typically, his ankles were also fastened to the metal stand he was currently on, however, either they got cocky that he was to hurt to try anything, or, they were new to the job. Either way, the blue eyed male merely gave a small grin, it disappeared as quickly as it came. For now, he thought it best to wait, he didn’t know how long he had been in here for, but he knew it was long enough to memorize the guard schedules. And he may or may not have remembered the override code said lab coat wearing man had.  Though, he could know all of that and have mobility of his legs all he wanted, but what good would It do him when he couldn’t even get his hands free? Thoughts cut off when he felt the cutting of his skin just over the unworn L’Cie Brand, though, there was something he noticed under the pain he was feeling, both of his wrists were not pinned as tightly as they should have been. Another win for him, now he just had to wait.
And six only knew how long he would have to. For once since being trapped here, he didn’t feel ashamed of his screams of pain that echoed down the hallways.
“How long do you plan to keep on letting him sulk?”
“Depends on how long you plan on continuing to watch your guy get the life beaten out of him.” Fang scoffed, arms crossed over her chest. Though she supposed the goddess queen of old had a point in that, she was more then capable of getting her charge out of the situation he was currently in, being she was the only one willing to go against orders of the crystal to do so. “And depends how much you want to say, ‘screw you’ to the crystal and the gods, or should I say Bahamut?” she could tell by the narrowing of the other woman’s eyes and the tightening of her hand around her red colored lance that she struck nerve with mentioning her once Eidolon. “Fang,” the pink haired woman started as she walked over to her and placed a hand on her shoulder. “What are you planning?”
If there was one thing Lightning knew about Fang; it was that she was extremely protective of her charge. Compared to her, Fang was much more involved with him than she was involved with Ignis. Though that was more due to personal choice, she didn’t want to make it seem like she was there to hold his hand, though she also knew that she was making it seem like she was leaving him on his own to figure things out. Which in a sense she was, but Fang? Oh no, not Fang, sure the woman never once gave Luche the immediate answer to situations, but she was much more willing to give out hints and help him out as much as she could and as much as he would allow while also being okay with. Despite both of their charges being connected, the two seemed to be taking two very different paths to the same goal.
“I’ll pull some strings.” She stated simply, judging by her tone, the woman was not only going to pull some strings, she was going to be there herself. Goddess Queen Lightning maybe, but she knew better then to try and get in Fang’s way, after all, Fang never once tried to tell her how to handle her charge thus she never tried to tell Fang how to handle hers. The two women had an understanding form the years and years of knowing one another and eventually even falling in love. Once brought together for a common cause, now once again brought together for another common cause and it was to save their once world from being destroyed and to keep the Oracle and Lucis Caelum lines from coming to an end. “I’ll see you later, alright?” Lightning could only nod as she watched the woman take her leave.
“Be safe.”
“Think they’re gonna be okay?” it was a question everyone at this point who knew Nyx and Ignis had been asking themselves since they received the news of Luche’s passing. Though Prompto was the only one willing to verbally ask. Noctis sighed, he had never once in all his years of knowing Ignis, seen him this upset. It had been about three days since a box of whatever belongings Luche had on him was given to the two. It remained untouched at the Glaive’s HQ, the two clearly having a hard time coping with the loss of their lover and older brother respectively. Ignis was already reserved and kept to himself, but these days, it was rare to see Ignis leave his home. As for Nyx he rarely went out with anyone these days; preferring to stay home and keep to himself. From time to time he and Ignis would meet up, however they never really spoke, they only sat at the highest point of the Glaive’s HQ to watch the sun set over their city.  “Noct?” the said dark haired prince could only shrug as he leaned against the gunner. “Maybe we should try talking to them.”
“I’m sure people have tried but its clear that it hasn’t helped any.” Prompto huffed, getting up forcing the prince to sit up right. He watched as he walked over to the pair and sat between them. Noctis was a little shocked to see Ignis lean on their Chocobo loving friend so quickly. but it was a comfort as well, it was a sign that Ignis hadn’t pulled away from them completely. Seeing that, Noctis was quick to get up and sit on Ignis’s free side, wrapping an arm around his waist. “You know, dad tells me you often can feel when something’s happened to a loved one. So, maybe Lu is okay.” that seemed to get a reaction out of their green-eyed friend, he sat up and looked at the prince for a moment as if he had just given a clue to some great riddle of the world. “Ignis?” said man was quick to get to his feet, grabbing the back of Nyx’s shirt and pulling him to his feet despite Prompto being between them. “Hey. Ignis what’s-“
“The Crystal, come with me and I’ll explain everything.” The words spoken so quickly, Nyx was sure that maybe he had misheard the man speaking. Though this didn’t stop him or the group from the following the emerald eyed man down to the elevator to the bottom of this tower. “As you all know, Luche, much like myself is a L’Cie. Chosen by the Crystal to do its bidding for the grand scheme of things, however, despite both of us being chosen,”
“Only Ignis got training to balance out his new role to the Lucian Royal family, Luche was kept a secret, basically left on his own to figure out what it is he was supposed to be doing while taking on a lot of solo missions.” Nyx explained, taking longer strides to keep up with the slightly shorter, but younger man as he leads them out of the elevator and down the hallways. Though, Nyx could tell from the confused on Noctis’ face along with Prompto’s that they couldn’t grasp why Luche’s being a L’Cie was kept a secret verses Ignis who was basically outed to the world. “Luche was used for Recon missions. Assassinations and things of the like, verses Ignis who was outed to the world as a….” he trialed off, thinking over a better use of words as he didn’t exactly want to offend the man. “He was used and seen as a last resort situation.” He finally settled on. The group paused as they approached the Crystal room, they watched as Ignis spoke with the guards, they seemed hesitant on letting him in, though seemed to finally go along with his words as one turned to punch in a code then use a keycard to unlock and open the set of metal doors. “Ignis, what are you planning?”
“L’Cie often times can sense when another L’Cie is around, though that’s only if they are in close proximity,” Ignis stated, nodding to some of the men within the room as they stepped aside, allowing him to punch in a few codes into the keyboard in front of him. they watched as the metal panels around the large Crystal hissed and glowed with life as they slowly parted away from the brightly shining rock. “Though, who is to say I cannot ask the Crystal if he is still alive or not?” he asked the group as he walked around the long tables of computers and up to the said Crystal. With a large intake of breath, he bit his lip, pulling his gloves off and lifting his hand up to the rock. It took only an instant for the Crystal to react to his closeness to it. “Please, show me, please show me where he is and that he is still alive and well.” Ignis begged silently, wincing when the brand on his chest started to burn and ache.
For a long moment, he believed that nothing would happen, that perhaps his theory had just been that, a theory and something he used as an excuse to cling onto a sliver of hope that was fading away so quickly.  though, the instant he went to pull his hand away, his ears rang, and head ached before images flooded into his head. Nothing but barren, snowy landscapes of Niflheim from what he was able to see, though in a matter of seconds he saw him, he saw the man they believed to be dead running though the snow, firearms in hand and wounds covering his body as he scrambled onto a snowmobile before riding off with several Magitek soldiers following behind. with a loud gasp his yanked his hand away, falling back and hitting the ground as he breathed heavily. He was vaguely aware of the group who had followed him now kneeling on he ground at his side. Worryingly checking over him for any signs of injury. “Ignis, Iggy what happened? What did you see if anything?” taking a few more breaths, mostly to calm himself, he lifted his head to look at the concerned gazes of his friends, for a moment he could see sorrow making its way back into Nyx’s eyes. Ignis gave them a smile, which in turn earned him gazes of confusion. “Iggs?”
“He’s alive. Hes alive and currently escaping from Niflheim.”
