Pairing: Trench/Darling

1. How do they fallasleep? Wake up? Any daily rituals?

Fallasleep: They barely leave the oldest house, so when they do sleep it has tendenciesto be in Trench’s office, on the couch. Not together, though—the couch is toosmall. While Darling sleeps (forced by Trench, mind you), Zachariah works onpaperwork and doesn’t let anyone enter his office—strict instructions to hissecretary, “Do not let anyone in and, sure as hell, do not let anyone eventhink of knocking on the door.” As for when Trench sleeps, it’s either passing out on the same couch or at hisdesk. Darling sneaks into the office usually just so he could wake him and tellhim to go home to his bed. The rare moment they do go to either’s home to sleep—ittends to be just that. Them just going to sleep. (Mind you, Darling is all overTrench when they do sleep).

Wakingup: Trench has tendencies to wake up before Darling and he makes coffee, helpsDarling who is usually half asleep in the mornings anyway, get dressed by doingup his shirt’s buttons and alike—they talk during that, which is mostly just teasingthen.

Dailyrituals: Getting coffee together in the morning, lunch during non-lunch hours inthe cafeteria and alike.

2.  How’s theirteam work? Do they share well?

Their teamwork is prettygood, Darling does the research and informs Trench of every detail, and when I sayevery detail—I mean every detail. Trench listens and remembers what the other said,applying it more often perfectly from the first go. There have been occasionallysome hiccups along the way which result in Trench showing up in Darling’soffice all bruised up… But he never gets too mad about it.

6. Any tasks that are always left to one person?

They divide the task between eachother well in work. But the issue is that most banal task like “remember to go food shopping” andso on are not either of their fortes.  Darlingcan cook though, not ideally but hecan—so that goes to him, while Trench is usually too tired to bother but hedoes most of the cleaning around the house—least he can do, he figures.

14. Anything they both dread?

The other dying in theline of duty due to a dumb mistake/slip up and the other to find their bodies.Also known as—exactly what will happen in the game, that’s their worst scenario.

As for more personal/unshared:Casper always feared that Zachariah will get fed up with him one day and justup and leave.Trench always feared that they would get found out by others.  

18. What are their dates like? How long do/did they date? Do they ever feelthe need to take a break from each other?

The Director of  FBC and the head of research sadly cannot goon dates in a sense—they both can’t muster up the time. But they see each otheroften through the day. In other words, if one misses the other, they will clearenough work for that moment to go to see each other.

Casper got employed 24years ago as of 2019, I can easily imagine that they dated since like a year ortwo into working for the bureau.  So around22 years now? That’s a long while, right? But it was an incredibly slow movingrelationship, let alone they didn’t call it “dating” till much later. But nowlook at these old men! //sobs

As for breaks—not at all,their work sort of prevents them from getting enough of each other. As much asthey sneak off, there’s always so much to be done that the whole sneaking offthing—is not so often.

19. What do they fight about? What are theirarguments like? How do they make up?

Arguing is tough but ithappens often enough, actually. Their fights break out either when Trench doessomething “unethical” according to Darling, or for the opposite—when Darlingbehaves eccentric and doesn’t follow through a given script, agreed uponbehavior. They argue passive-aggressively, and everyone in the Oldest Houseknows because the air becomes stiffer than ever before between them. Themmaking up is neither of them apologizing to one another, at least not Trench—Darlingmight mutter a “sorry” but even so rarely. They just sort of end up carrying on likenothing ever happened. The arguments grow stale and they let go.

23.  How do they hug? Kiss? Tease? Flirt?Comfort?

Hugging: Publically, Zachariahis not a hugger, so all their hugs there are Darling getting overly excited andjumping at Trench. Obviously, the director of the FBC can’t show everyone how the headof research has him like putty in his hand by just touching him. As for privately,majority of the hugs are initiated by Zachariah because he just is very fond ofthe other, but they come as other pretenses to be close to him.

Kiss: All the fuckingtime, when nobody is around! They’re pathetic about it. Blinds down in theoffice the two of them are in? Probably making out… bastards.

Tease: All the time, butwhen in front of people – they tend to be inconspicuous enough.

“It’s time to get up, Darling—““Lay off me, I’m hibernating.”“…Fine, then I suppose I’ll just have to go take a shower all by myself.” “*instantly sits up* wait--”

Comfort: Darling is overlyempathetic, Trench is only decently so. Darling tries his best, whenever Trenchcomes back all bloody and so on after messy encounters and so on—instead ofmaking him go to the medic’s office, he will personally patch him up and talkabout other things then whatever object of power is responsible (even if it’shard). Trench pretends he doesn’t need it, that he’s fine without thereassurance, but it’s been a long life. While Zachariah himself, mainly just wordlessly tends to use psychical contactto calm the other.

28. What are their vacations like?

They can’t exactly take avacation due to the importance of their roles in the Bureau.  

So they take micro vacationsaka breaks. The Oldest House is a shifting place after all, so they just go getcoffee someplace in a threshold and proceed to talk about nothing in particular.

36. What’s their greatest strength as a couple?Their weakness?

Strengths: They actuallypay lots of attention to each other so it’s easy to play off each other’s cues.

Weaknesses: They havetendencies to disagree, and not be entirely honest with each other. It tends toend poorly.

42. Do they let each other get away with thingsthat would normally bother them?

Trench: Yes. Incrediblyso. There are few things that bother him—the mess and chaos Darling can sometimeswork in, amongst a few similar details. But he understands that you can’t havegenuine genius without eccentricity and allow it.

Darling: Brings it up consistently,like Trench’s smoking or lack of public signs that they’re together. While he understandsthe latter, he still feels like it’s unfair. He knows that internal affairswould have a field day if they found out and either shut them down or demoteTrench at the very least. But he still wishes there was more than being called just‘Darling’ amongst other agents.

Okay now that I’ve finally quit Denny’s let me tell you guys about the bizarre fucking otherworld it is

The music and the room temperature are controlled by corporate. Corporate plays a lot of pop covers of Disney princess songs I’ve never heard before. I now have a dance routine to the K-Pop sounding version of Let it Go.

Our sign flickered fast and red and demonically for a week and the repairman said he couldn’t find anything wrong with it.

People did drug deals in, like, broad daylight in the middle of the parking lot multiple times a week.

It’s open 24/7. We had a backup generator none of us knew about until there was a massive storm one night and we looked out to see a tree knocked over and our lights the only thing on for miles. You could weather the apocalypse with no idea the apocalypse was even happening. 

Regular customers included:

A man convinced the chemtrails are real who gave me six separate pieces of literature on the subject

A little person named Kevin who told me “sometimes I call myself a dwarf when I’m feeling whimsical”

An actual group of Neo-Nazis

An actual Earth, Wind, and Fire cover band (they played for us)

Twins who came in separately on the same day and I thought they were one woman changing outfits rapidly for the longest time

A Scottish landscaper who told us we “couldn’t prove he doesn’t know Simon Pegg”

Who's the stupidest person you've ever met, and what story perfectly sums up their stupidity?

One night during high school, my friend and I got invited to a party. I didn’t drive back then so my friend picked me up. All went well on our way to the party. On the way back however, he got pulled over. As we were pulling to the side of the road, I told him that I was gonna pretend to be sleeping (since I was the passenger). Anyway, I hear the cop get out of his cop car, walk towards our car, stops at the window but doesn’t say anything. I can feel the brightness of his flashlight but I don’t hear him or my friend say anything. After about what seemed like an eternity, I decide to open my eyes to see what’s going on. That’s when I see my friend, the guy who is driving, is pretending like he is sleeping too.
