“You’re sure you’ll be okay?”

“Takashi,” Ryou said, folding his arms and trying to give his twin the look his father - their father, he reminded himself, he was still trying to get better about doing that - would have given, “are you worried about me or the kid?”

“Both.”

He sighed and unfolded his arms so he could clap a hand on Takashi’s shoulder. “We’ll be fine.”

“I’m not used to you reassuring me,” he admitted.

Ryou couldn’t help chuckling thinly at that. “One of the first things I did when I got to the colony was look after the kids.” With help, but he left that out. He knew now that it had been a test, that the Alteans who had been helping him had been watching him as much as helping him watch the kids. They’d wanted to see how he treated them, what his base personality was like without the programming Haggar had done to him.

“It’s just that Alfor can be a handful...”

“We’ll. Be. Fine,” he said again. He patted his twin’s shoulder. (It was easier to think of Takashi as his twin than to think of shared parents or experiences, because that all just reminded him that he had this man’s memories, not memories of his own.) “Enjoy your quality time with your princess. You both deserve the break.”

“Yeah. Yeah, okay, you’re right.” A smile forced itself onto Takashi’s face. “You’re right, it’ll be... everything will be great. I hope you both have a great time tonight.”

“I hope you two have a great time tonight. Go spoil her rotten.”

The smile eased into something less tense and Takashi turned to leave, then half-turned back. “Remember what I said about the peanut butter.”

“GO,” Ryou told him with a laugh, making a shooing motion with his hand.

And Takashi left.

The Altean colony had been a perfect place to suggest for a “date night.” She still wasn’t sure why it was called that, but she wasn’t going to quibble over words when she had a night with her knight... well, paladin.

Hunk had packed them a picnic dinner, Keith had scouted out a perfect place to set it up: high up on a cliff, overlooking a valley lush with flowers, and Pidge had cobbled together a small speaker that played music Lance had selected for them from a list Coran had given him. It was a warm night with a breeze just cool enough to keep them from overheating, and the moons of Oriande were fat and lazy in the sky amongst the twinkling stars.

They ate and drank well, talked on matters both trivial and deep, and laughed together at inside jokes. Allura felt a peaceful contentment settle into her body, and made sure to share her happiness with Takashi through numerous nuzzles, cuddles, snuggles, and, of course, kisses. She almost didn’t want the night to end.

They took their time strolling back to the colony, hand in hand in companionable silence. She basked in the quietude: no screaming toddler or angry Coalition members to disturb her. Alfor should be asleep by now, she thought as they wound through the streets, so we should be able to just pick him up and take him back aboard the Castle and tuck him in. Then I can take Takashi to bed as well... She was looking forward to it.

The door to Ryou’s house opened upon recognizing Shiro - it did that sometimes, even when Ryou was already inside and the door systems should have recognized that; the DNA match was too close and it confused things - and the two of them walked in...

...to find Ryou dangling Alfor upside down by his ankles. The toddler was shrieking happily and his face was absolutely covered in what looked like peanut butter. His face and some of his onesie, for that matter. Toys were strewn about and the Black Lion plushie was on Ryou’s head.

He looked up as they entered. “Oh, hi. You two have a good time?” If he was aware of the chaos around him - or their shock at seeing it - he didn’t show it.

“What happened here?” Shiro asked.

“Huh? Nothing much. We’ve just been having a good time.”

“I told you about the peanut butter.”

“What? It’s not like he’s allergic to it. Let the kid make a mess now and then.”

“MESH!” Alfor declared.

Ryou responded by swinging his nephew around by the ankles some, causing more happy (and shrill) shrieking. After a few swings, Ryou swung him back upright, catching him up into a hug.The Black Lion plushie fell off his head and onto Alfor, who grabbed it up and promptly smeared peanut butter on it in the process of hugging it to him.

“We had fun,” was all Ryou said.

Allura exhaled and began to round up the toys they’d brought with them. “I had thought you would play with one or two toys and we were simply giving you an assortment,” she said as she gathered them into her arms. “I didn’t expect...”

“A toy-splosion,” Shiro finished for her.

“We played with ALL the toys.”

“ALL DA TOYS!” Alfor declared. Ryou blew a raspberry on the only clean part of the toddler’s cheek, earning more giggles.

“I’m surprised he’s still awake,” Allura commented mildly, depositing the first armload into the basket they’d brought.

“He’ll drop right off when you get him back to the Castle,” Ryou predicted. “I go for the ‘wear them out’ approach. Won’t you, Alfor?” he asked the boy. “You’ll go right to sleep!”

“SEEP,” Alfor repeated.

“See?”

And then Alfor opened his mouth and said a word that neither Shiro nor Allura had ever heard him say before. She stopped what she was doing to stare at her darling, innocent child.

“Please tell me he’s trying to say ‘fork’ for some reason,” Shiro said.

Ryou looked sheepish. “I... might have accidentally... I tripped and fell at one point...”

“Because you left toys scattered everywhere,” Allura commented.

“...and it just came out.”

Alfor said it again, because he was the center of attention when he said it, and he apparently liked that.

Shiro sighed. “I’m going to get a dishtowel to wipe him off.”

“You’re not angry?”

“I... don’t even know what I am.” He hurried to the kitchen area.

“We are grateful for your looking after our son tonight,” Allura rushed to reassure him. “But perhaps next time you should invite Romelle over to babysit with you?”

“Oh, that’s a good idea,” Ryou agreed. “She’d love the chance to spoil Alfor.”

“And maybe she’ll keep you from cursing around a toddler who loves to repeat words.”

Alfor said it again, louder.

“Sleep time, buddy,” Shiro said, reaching over with a toweled hand to start the de-peanut-buttering process. “Sleep.”

“SEEP,” Alfor agreed before thrusting the Black Lion at his father.

Shiro had to hastily put the towel between himself and the messy toy. “Yes, we’re going back to the Castle to sleep.”

“CASSLE.”

Allura looked up from her toy wrangling and couldn’t help smiling. Okay, so the evening had ended on... an unexpected note. But everyone she cared about was happy and healthy and if they also happened to be a bit peanut butter-covered, well, she could handle that.

Idea for Trigane/Twinganes AU. Jiro/Kuron often likes to joke that Shiro is the 'prototype', Ryou is the 'test type' and he's the 'production model'.

Usually it’s Shiro calling Ryou his “biological clone” and Jiro his “artificial twin” to harass both his brothers—

(and to make Jiro feel better—New Timestream, Old Angst. Timetravel’s Weird so all Jiro’s old relationships are kinda gone and will This Shiro be okay with him??)

—buuuut once Jiro’s comfortable in his own skin again? YOU BET he’d become insufferable with his own brand of clone humor xD

Here i will be telling you the very detailed minutiae as well as every thought that ever crossed my mind while doing the first installement of the twinganes au edits !

I’m going to begin with the 3rd improved screencap, cause it’s my favourite. See you guys under the read more =>

This one is my favourite for two reasons : one, it’s the screencap i use everytime i want to color pick the pal’s clothes or skin, and they’re all together, under the sun, and it’s the Beginning. And i like that very much. Secondly, this was the “easiest” one, the one who made me feel like i was making progress and giving me back a little of motivation when i felt blocked with the others. I only save as a pic when i stop working on a piece for the day - that way i can see the advancement and it makes me feel happy cause it’s not static !

finding Ryou’s base wasn’t too difficult, as in i plopped a few of them in the pic until i tried this one and saw that it was working really well indeed. I at first thought it would be more interesting to put him at Hunk’s side - Ryou falling back in the habit of working with his brother to herd young cadets. But then i thought about it for .32 seconds more and thought ‘yeah, as if Ryou would get more than a meter away from Shiro after getting him back’.

i had to move all the pals to make place for Ryou, and while they’re originally mostly in a single line, the way i replaced them makes them a bit more on three different levels (ryou’s on the farthest one, he’s not directly flushed to shiro. i hope it’s kinda visible)

idk about you guys but the most time i spend on a piece the more chance i end up Loving the most inconsequential detail. ryou ? yeah, he’s cute, he’s good. but have you seen that ridge ??? (last time it was clouds.) the one where Lance’s head used to be. i should have blurred it a bit to go with the blur background, but i found it just so well done i didn’t have the heart to change it.

GODDAMN. FUCKING. JACKET !!!!!!

(that’s all you need to know if you don’t want more details on how i spend two literal hours on the opening of shiro’s ryou’s jacket)

you can see the multiverse where ryou’s haircut nearly looked another way, but i had already commited in another fanart and i just LIKE IT ok even if i draw it in a way that could be more attractive.

If you’re thinking ryou looks like he’s thinking ‘goddamnit shiro please chill i just got u back can you wait five MINUTES before getting into an Adventure :tm:’ well you’d be very right. Alternatively, you can hear ryou’s cat activation noise about him seeing shiro all tensed up.

And now let’s go to... the First One. (i mean, if i remember well ? guys, i began this like, nine months ago. i have done nothing else but like, two sketchs since then. talk about a slow drawer)

Fun fact, i have a list of like, twenty folders with different “scenes”. screencaps. Scenescaps ? I decided to use those four cause they felt both like the most emblematic of “finding shiro” to me and the most recognisable.

While fishing for good screencaps to use in general, i found this one of shiro in ep 1 and it was just absolutely perfect. I didn’t need to even search for another one. Hurray ! (in hindsight im still a bith :/ about the perspective/lenght of his arm and hand but like... u learn to pic your battles)

i only photoshopped ryou’s butt by like, three pixels (so the bottom of the jacket would look ok). otherwise, let’s thanks the OG artists

can you see on the jacket where i was a total dumbass and used the reference i FLIPPED to the details... until i saw a version non-flipped and had to redraw the back tan line. those moment your brain is in total balance between ‘haha funny drawing thing !’ and ‘FCK’

i had planned to keep og shiro’s pants but then in the 3rd edit i gave him kuron’s pants and it was good and i was already so far gone, ok, i just wanted the pics to look REAL. devil’s in the details and all that stuff

u know that ‘artist things’ post going around with the one going like “68% opacity ?? or 69% ???” it is so me. soooo me.

lbh this one is the boring one. But also very important cause it introduce the character !

Now onto the Second One, also named “Operation : make Ryou pretty” :

This is not very visible because i did not include the screencaps i took of the different possibilities i tried, but there are quite a few of them. Ryou’s hair was quite hard to get down, but mostly his face - i needed him to be pretty here (for no other reason that i wanted to). And while the og screencap of shiro i used had an actual head on a body, it just wasn’t how i wanted ryou to look like. More than a few times i thought ‘what if i stopped trying and just settled on the original face, aren’t i just losing time ?’ but im glad i forged forward like the stubborn mule i am cause i’m very pleased with the end result !

Look, like i said, you have to pick your battles, and you have a quota of squirmishes and full out war for each piece, and by this i mean i spent so long finding a cap with the right angle for ryou that you better believe when he needed a hand i just took the first one available - yes, shiro’s hand. (ok, i DID try another thing but in the right angle the fingers were the wrong way around so i just copied pasted fingers after fingers to recreate a hand with the thumb on the GOOD side and then it just didn’t look as simple&true as shiro’s one so i used shiro.

i think the funnier part of this one was actually filling the holes in some sort of “connect the dots” !

Fryoukenstein ! at one point in my search of the Most Prettiest Face i superimposed three different caps of face trying to get the good bits together. you can see it a bit quickly in frame 3 above but believe me, it was a riot (until i scratched all of it and used another cap).

can you believe shiro’s is supported by the two people who loves him most ?? makes me emotional

ryou is squatting/bending to get shiro’s arm over him, as shiro he has quite a bit of height on keith. but the hair was already so close to cutting it out of the frame, so :/

i made ryou’s temple strands very flat and ridiculous, but BATTLE. PICK’EM. (better finished than perfect !!) (say i, after m o n t h s)

And last but not the least, the Fourth One !

I did it after all the others were nearly done/on the finishing touches, so it’s quite recent (three weeks ?) and by this time i knew my process more and it was easier to be a bit uuuh more productive on it. mostly i went at it a bit like, ‘fuck it it’s the last one i just want to post’ with enough of love for the journey that i was happy. Again,hesitated a lot for the caps : here you can see the first batch of possibilities. Heavily hesitated between a very pretty kuron and CUTE BABY garrison shiro, but the “which one is more dorky” won out in the end.

i did not try much for the overall perspective/imbrication of ryou in the existing cap. the mood of the fourth one is ‘good enough’. it could have been cool to add one of his hand on hunk’s back, or something like that. but nope !

 i’m still very happy about how the hair turned out : i didn’t agonise about it for hours, and i think it does look good and contextual ! (i just... need to decide one and for all about the size and length and placement of the temple strands)

i hesitated between taking the one where kuron has the same scrunched up face as shiro for a “they’re brothers !! with in this case same response to the same stimuli  cause they’re so close !”, but it was a bit too the same, and did not merge too well with the og cap. and in the end, shiro is still using his responses from the arena in case of surprise-danger, not his childhood ones

(keith is squinting cause he took ryou’s scrunchie in the eye when it flew out of ryou’s hair with all the movements)

Kuron should have lived as his own person in his own body and that’s the hill I’ll die on, you remember when the showrunners said that Kuron’s soul merged with Shiro’s as a way to appease the fans that were upset with Kuron’s fate? And then the whole thing wasn’t even mentioned in canon? Dude, it still hurts like everything about VLD. But- I just watched moon knight and I can’t stop thinking about Shiro and Kuron having the relationship Marc and Steven have.

Shiro at first not knowing that Kuron is still there, there’s blurry spaces in his memories, actions he doesn’t remember doing. With time he gets an understanding of what’s happening, he’s upset and he finds the way to communicate with the other inhabitant of his body. They’re both scared, confused and angry, hurtful words are exchanged but also truths, there’s a discussion about neither of them had a said on the decision of using Kuron’s body as vessel for Shiro. They fight each other for the right to be on front and eventually they realize that sometimes is better for Shiro to be in control and other times is Kuron, they start to cooperate with each other albeit reluctantly until they build up a symbiotic relationship.

Then something happens in a mission, Shiro is about to receive an attack and before the impact Kuron takes control over the body and put Shiro’s consciousness aside. When Shiro wakes up he finds himself alone, He doesn’t know what happened to Kuron, he is gone and the silence is unbearable, like being trapped inside Voltron all over again. He doesn’t want to be alone, he doesn’t want to left Kuron behind, so he decides and unlike the other decision he didn’t made that put him in this messy situation in the first place this one is his and no one else: he’s going to save Kuron and bring him back.

Shiro finds Kuron in The Black Lion’s astral plane but when Shiro reach him Kuron is paralyzed, Shiro talks to him but Kuron doesn’t answer and Shiro cries, he tells Kuron how much he cares about him that Kuron saved him and Shiro wasn’t going to abandon him, words echo to Marc’s speech to Steven.

Shiro hugs Kuron and the embrace breathes life back to him, they cry from joy and the embrace strengthens. The Black Lion appears in front of them, they walk to her, their arms over each other’s shoulders. They don’t have to be alone anymore, they’re a package deal.

Shiro is still a single pringle but Ryou got hitched.  Her name is Mary Jane.  She’s the one that proposed.

they ended up with a daughter (named Jane).

who has aged up just in time for me to try out the High School game pack (or at least that’s the plan)

and now (because no one in the house can keep their pants on) she’s also got a younger brother.

Meet Sven.  I’m rather pleased that the game gave him the same freckles it gave his sister.

When Shiro touched down on Oriande, it was a chilly day. It was autumn, and as he walked through the colony of the Altean diaspora, he noticed people in coats and scarves, some even with gloves. 

So when he knocked on Ryou’s door and his twin brother answered the door, he stopped and stared. 

“Takashi! Good to see you! Uh... are you okay?”

“I gave you that shirt.” 

“Hm?” He looked down at himself and then looked back up, smiling. “Yes, you did. I like it a lot. So does Romelle.”

He ignored his brother’s blushing. “It had sleeves when I gave it to you.”

“Oh, uh, yes, it did. Look, come in.” He stepped back out of the way.

Shiro walked in. The house was much as he’d last seen it, though there were a few potted plants here and there. “Aren’t you cold?”

“I do have a coat for when I go outside.”

“It had sleeves,” he insisted. He paused and then asked, with a grin, “Did Romelle ask you to get rid of them?”

“No! Though, um, she did say she likes the shirt even more now.” He cleared his throat, blushing. “But the sleeves were, um... well, it was an accident.”

“An accident? Did they get caught in some machinery or something?”

“Uh, n-not... I mean, I was working, but it wasn’t like that.”

“Then what?”

Ryou fidgeted. “I... um, I was picking up something heavy, and they just...ripped.”

“At the seam?” he asked. It was a shirt he’d designed - with Allura’s help - and had made by the Castle’s manufactors, but even alien tech had its weak points.

“No. The bicep.”

Shiro stared at him again and then started laughing. “You... you flexed and ripped the sleeves?!” 

“It’s not funny.”

“Yes, it is!” He settled down a little and grinned. “And look at it this way: it’s one more way we’re different. You’re... how should I put it...? A little beefier? No! You’re More Ripped!”

“Oh stop it! You’re worse than Romelle!”

“Oh, I doubt that!”

“SHE DOESN’T DO PUNS!”

He continued to grin. “Well, I came down to see how you were getting on, but maybe I’ll send word up to the Castle to make you a few more shirts with a little more room in the sleeves.”

“I’d appreciate that, thank you.”

“And maybe some more shirts without sleeves at all.”

“... ... ...Romelle would appreciate that,” Ryou admitted.

Twinganes edit 1: Kuron/Ryou made something that annoyed Shiro.

Shiro has several prosthetics.

Getting his brother free from unknown tech literally grafted onto him was kinda at the top of Ryou’s To Do list—made worse by the Galra continuously finding them and Hunk being of the same mind, too. Ulaz literally storing data like his brother’s a Flash Drive was the last straw. (Shiro fought Ryou on getting it removed Immediately after Allura’s capture—“more pressing matters” with Pidge chiming in that she can just hack around it.) MAYBE it’s Just the Black Lion. But Ryou’s done taking any chances (and the Lion having a tyrant in her circuitry doesn’t explain everything.)

So...Shiro ends up with a new arm, and then some. All detatchable, some weaponized, some not and simply designed for Everyday Comfort and Durability. At least one arm is basically a glorified swiss army knife, which gets heavy use from Shiro. Ryou’s constantly fiddling with the remains of Shiro’s Galran Tech removed to try and figure out how the darn thing admittedly functioned with such a high degree of response. (Ryou also discovers other secrets that cause him to wake up screaming. Shiro always demands to know what’s wrong, but all Ryou can do is hold his twin tightly—Taka’s better off not knowing if Ryou can help it.)

Besides constantly tinkering with Shiro’s prosthetics and the old one, and always looking ways to improve his designs, Ryou also makes Shiro arms that are simply for Just Fun. (well, so long as the fingers and wrist and elbow respond. Style doesn’t entirely substite substance.) Arms with hands that float freely. Arms that are transparent. Arms that glow an ever changing gradiant of colors. Ryou’s pride and joy is an arm that glows and shimmers with starlight and can even display charts both on the forearm and project from the palm and fingers.

However, none of Ryou’s designs can hold a candle to the Black Bayard in comfort, function, versatility, and power...which he’s completely okay with. (Shiro does insist on using Ryou’s Designs fairly frequently, especially after he learns to make other forms with the bayard. But on days when his remaining flesh is simply too tender for anything to touch for long periods, Black’s Bayard is Shiro’s preference. Especially if there’s a chance on getting called on a mission.)

When the BlackLion drags Jiro home and demands to keep him, he’s absolutely overwealmed by the sheer variety Ryou’s made for Shiro, and touched that Shiro’s insisting that Jiro can share with him until Ryou can make something a little bit more specific for Jiro’s wants and needs.

This timestream may be different in ways Jiro couldn’t anticipate, but this time Jiro isn’t stuck waiting for an arm that isn’t designed to hurt him or wondering if he’s accepted.

(He does want his own StarChartSpacArm. Taka’s not sharing that one.)
