When Katsuki Bakugo needed saving, Izuku came up with a plan where Todoroki, Iida, and Kirishima went rocketing across the sky to reach him.

When Izuku Midoriya needed saving, it was Katsuki, Todoroki, and Iida who went rocketing across the sky to reach him.

Both times, our Twin Stars decided to set their own needs aside and allow the other’s trusted friend to take the lead in bringing them home. Izuku knew Kirishima was the right choice to get Katsuki away from the league quickly and safely, and Katsuki knew Iida was the better man for the job of catching up to Izuku and bringing him back.

Can we please just take a moment to appreciate the parallels. Please.

This is on my mind for weeks...

Katsuki was almost killed thrice. First the Sludge Villain incident, then when he is kidnap by the LOV and third by Shigafo when he is stabbed. The thing is during those three incidents Izuku was there.

He was saved by Izuku when he was almost suffocated by the sludge villain. When Izuku saw that the person is Kacchan he's body moved on his own.

Second he was saved by Iida, Kirishima, Shoto and Izuku. Izuku formulated a plan to save him from the LOV.

Third he almost died but Izuku and Shoto was there. Such a heartbreaking moment. Izuku's rage and him losing control and then AFO seeing it.

MAJOR SPOILERS:

And finally he was killed by SFO because IZUKU WASN'T THERE 😭💔

The moment Izuku loses all his light because his sun is on the ground bloodied and 💔

Izuku being dragged in the portal by Toga seperating him from Katsuki and then Katsuki being targeted by Shigafo and he fought till he's body can't anymore or his heart can't anymore. The heroes being there but still they can't save Katsuki 😭💔

Mirio saying he understands Deku and he can't forgive himself too means Izuku is blaming himself and the second page when Mirio said we need to keep fighting and don't give up means Katsuki dying is Izuku giving up of everything 😢

So we know that Katsuki would come back and live cause there is no world that Izuku would be the greatest hero when Kacchan is dead. Also Izuku needs him, the recent chapters is not looking good for Deku 🥹

I always believe that Izuku being seperated from Katsuki didn't worry him cause he knows that Katsuki is strong and smart, that is his image of victory after all and there are other heroes with him. The thing is I don't know if he knows that Katsuki is his weakness and closest person or maybe he does (we don't know cause we doesn't have access to his pov anymore) but Shigaraki knows because of the quirk search. I mean those two stars are them and he said it must be fate 🥹

Katsuki doesn't even know it too. He was shocked when Shigafo only targeted him. The heroes tried their best protecting him but it's not good enough.

The two were always together even in their not so good relationship during Middle School. Katsuki and Izuku was never been separated until high school. When Katsuki was kidnapped, Izuku said it was a total loss on him. During his vigilante era, he was hurt, depressed and lost, also it was hard on Katsuki too as he is worried and you can see the bags under his eyes. Being away from UA, his friends, teachers especially KACCHAN is not good for both of them 💔

Katsuki being Izuku weakness, his heart, his light, his beginning and end is so beautiful and poetic

Izuku and Katsuki has been together since toddlers, they know each other their whole lives. Please, even when Katsuki is being a gremlin Izuku is still by his side. When Izuku needs help Katsuki is always there. Izuku has a big impact on Katsuki life and vice versa. They are childhood friends, rivals, the wonder duo, twin stars of Class 1A, the house arrest boys, All Might nerds/ All Might's Legacy, Deku and Kacchan and Deku and Dynamight 🧡💚

REACTIONS TO EPISODE 25 - NO MAN IS AN ISLAND

Well... the last episode of season 6! And it's been fun doing this!

LAST EPISODE'S REACTIONS

*sighs*... can't believe this is the end of season 6... felt as in it went by so fast.

"Instead, I'm just holding my disciple back." Ooooh, All Might, you ain't gotta say that. Right in my feels.

Every time I see that "I AM NOT HERE" sign, I get mad. First, that is the neatest protest sign I have ever seen. Second, who ever done it... HOW DARE YOU?!

Ah, shit, Stain actually gave me a scare there. All Might though? Unfazed!!

"Take it back, fool!" Stain really pulled up with the ready to stab someone for talking bad about his favorite hero. 🤣 Don't blame him though because... you know... it's All Might.

I swear that shot... yep, he and Izuku are very much the same.

Ayo, Stain is a real one, for real. He is telling All Might that is was never about his power, but his actions. The fact that no matter what, All Might was always saving people, putting smiles on their faces. That his run hasn't ended.

And that's the end of season 6!! By far, it's my favorite season! There was a lot going on here, but damn it, I loved it! From music to animation and the phenomenal voice acting, I can't say this season disappointed me.

Excited for season 7! I hope everyone works hard on that one as well as get all the rest they need.

For now, the manga is still going on and I'm enjoying that in the mean time.

CHAPTER 3 is up!

I also made some little character bios for the main cast and supporting OCs. The ages listed are accurate to the beginning of the story which is also the start of the school year.

Chinen Miya is 15, Class 1A: an excellent student, competes as a member of the National Skateboarding team, went to a private middle school and has no close friends.

Kyan Koyomi is 15, Class 1B: a good student, member of the Drama club, loves fashion and hanging out with her friends.

Kyan Reki is 16, Class 2C: an OK student but he's failing English. He's more popular with his classmates than he thinks but doesn't have any close friends. No clubs and he doesn't skateboard anymore.

Higa Hiromi is 17, Class 2B: An OK student but he is repeating year two due to fighting and truancy. Soccer club and unofficial member of the gardening club.

Sakurayashiki Kaoru is 17, Class 3A: former top student, former captain of the Kendo club. Current treasurer of the student council. Not currently in any school clubs but attending a programming and robotics course.

Hasegawa Langa is 17, Class 3A: pretty good student and star player on the soccer team. Visits Canada at least once a year, his dad travels a lot.

Shindo Ainosuke is 17, Class 3A: top student, President of the Student Council and the Drama Club. His family is notoriously wealthy and influential.

Nanjo Kojiro is 17, Class 3B: good student, popular and flirty ace of the Baseball team. He and Kaoru are childhood friends, but they aren't in the same class this year.

Kikuchi Tadashi is 18: first year college student, former secretary of the Student Council. Lives and works at the Shindo estate.

Oka Shokichi is 20: newly promoted manager at Dope Sketch.

Kamata Kiriko is 25: Homeroom teacher for class 2C. She coaches baseball and is very sick of high schoolers flirting with her.

Sonozaki Yosuke is 16, Reki’s childhood best friend (yes I gave him the same name in ‘there is no if’). He introduced Reki to skateboarding and they were inseparable as children. He was injured skating in their final year of middle school and Reki has not been in touch since he moved to the mainland before high school.

Kobayashi Rie is 15, Class 1A: an excellent student, junior member of the student council. She has been best friends with Koyomi since they were babies because their moms are good friends.

Fujiwara Kiyu is 15, Class 2C: a good student and junior member of the baseball team. He likes video games, singing and is learning to play guitar. One of the youngest in his class and a relative of Chinen Miya.

Uehara Takashi is 16, Class 2C: top student, member of the literary club and plays piano. He is serious and sincere. He and his twin have been chosen as class representatives, ignoring the one boy, one girl rule, since they were ten years old.

Uehara Ritsu is 16, Class 2C: an ok student and junior member of the baseball team. He dreams of forming a band with Tadashi and Kiyu but he hasn't found an instrument he's any good at.

AGAIN this is pure speculation and interpretation, since i think this song is broad and vague and most likely not related to bkdk in the show (that its a bit of a stretched allegory?). I distanced some lines from the other when it was supposed to be connected and mean something else.

“BaKuDeKu iSn’T HeaLtH”

No fucken duh Sherlock, Katsuki is a few straws shy of an entire basket case.

So right now NO relationship he has is “healthy” because he isn’t healthy. How he relates to his parents, his mentors, his idol, his classmates, the people I hesitate to call his friends, all ‘extras’, and Deku is by default disfunctional at best right now.

But if you made it past episode one than you know this is an entire series about him working with Deku and opening up to him about his insecurities as he unlearns all the toxic things he’s internalized because they live in a very fucked up society. (They’re groomed from a birth to want to be child soldiers, it’s like America’s military pipeline wet dream)

I would argue how he interacts with Deku might actually be his healthiest relationship, because he is at least expressing that he feels something, he sometimes even actually connects to a feeling that’s more than just rage or annoyed disinterest.

Deku has trauma and issues he needs to work through too, but he does some work as it happens.

He crys and says how he feels, he can connect to why he feels that way and extend empathy to others and see why they might have the feelings they do. Deku has things to work through for sure but he isn’t stunted and repressed in those issues.

I can and have made entire lists of things Deku needs to work on, but for the most part they aren’t stopping him from living his life. He’s open to connecting with others and forming relationships with them.

Dekus strength is that he’s open to being hurt, he can take the risks required still love and care about people openly despite everything he’s been through. And that allows him to be ready to save people even when it’s a risk to himself, he’ll sacrifice his pride and his win to save, he takes a step up to the plate even when he knows he’s going to strike out.

Deku dares to care about his Kacchan in a no bars held, absolutely unconditional love, kinda way that terrifies the shit out of Katsuki. In the words of the great Freddy Mercury “Love dares you to change the way you care ababout yourself”, and unconditional love gives you grace and a soft place to land when you lose. And Katsuki Can Not have that.

Deku has some sense of resiliency that Katsuki has cut himself off from.

There’s an acknowledged fear around Deku that continued to compact and get more noticeable and more repressed until Katsuki became “flaming crap mixed with garbage”. Over time Katsuki tried to cut himself off from Deku but he has never severed his emotional ties to him.

Instead he’s just been hacking off the parts of himself that remind him of Deku and that seems to have included any emotional intelligence and sense of reality.

Up until Deku vs Kacchan 2, Katsuki was under the full impression that Deku not only also feels negatively about him in a mutual way, but that Deku felt that way first, that Deku has always been looking down at him.

He says he never knows what Dekus thinking, Deku the most open and sincere person ever, Katsuki has spent a solid chunk of his life building up a nerative that Dekus kindness has alternative motives like pity.

He can’t understand Deku and it scares him because Deku is a fundamental part of him, if he’s ever hated Deku(I don’t think he did) it’s because he hated himself.

Katsuki is very lonely kid, he deems friendship, kindness, and caring about other peoples feelings as weakness. While constantly seeing Deku make it a strength because Deku knows a kinda of strength Katsuki doesn’t yet. And that shakes Katsuki’s personal nerative that he’s so much stronger than everyone, especially with his quirk. He couldn’t acknowledge Dekus strengths because it required him to acknowledge all his own weaknesses that he��s been running from his whole life.

Katsuki is as disconnected from life as it gets without adding substance abuse.

Katsuki goes to sleep at 8/9 pm and wakes up at freaking noon(16 hours sleep isn’t normal), he can’t take a complement or praise, he shuts down behind a wall of anger at the barest hint of criticism or being shown where he can improve, he’s got major attachment issues to the point he won’t even let anyone call him their friend(sidenote he never argues that him and Deku aren’t childhood friends, he just changes the subject), he reactions are often wildly out of proportionate to what’s actually happening.

Most importantly he only ever vents when he’s the breaking point and he’s scream crying, even then it’s only to Deku. Until then he just locks himself in his room and stares at the ceiling.

So no they’re not healthy, but they’re not healthy separately either. And UA is the first time they’ve ever even had the chance and the bare minimum of help/guidance required to start working on anything, and now they’ve gotta do it while looking their mortality in the eye at an age when the brain can’t even accurately do that.

The beauty of BkDk is the potential of their perfect circle healing, because why their sick in the first place is because they’re missing and rejecting the parts the other holds. Even without a shipping lense they are still an absolute fundamental part of each other’s healing.

BNHA Rewatch: Episode 55 “Class 1-A”

We open with Todoroki vs a bunch of ninjas. This is all filler and it isn’t especially memorable so let’s fast forward.

The Saiko Intelli fight begins. Now this whole fight is ridiculous, I’ll grant you, and the plans make no sense. But I find it fun, so whatever.

IT BEGINS.

Like, all the Foes in this arc are basically versions of the UA kids, and Saiko is the bad guy version of Momo, so naturally I’m inclined to like her. I love foils.

No Jiro!

Everyone gets taken out one by one, in ways that are mostly pretty silly and commonsense but get talked up a lot as “ingenious!!”

It’s silly as hell but whatevers.

“What would Todoroki do?” Todomomo AHHAHHH. OK she also says Iida and Deku I guess. But hey guess who asked “What would Yaoyorozu do” in one of the light novels? That’s right, Shoto.

Though there’s some Momojirou in this ep too. And Izumomo if you squint. I wonder sometimes if that one would be fun to explore more. 

I’m always happy to see Momo come up with a clever plan and use her quirk, so even though this is pretty silly, I’m down for it.

This is pretty cheesy shonen “power of friendship” stuff, but I do kinda enjoy how it speaks to some character development for Momo. Basically just give Momo more filler episodes and I won’t care how silly they are, I’ll go for it.

AAHHHHHHGGHHHHHHHH!!!! HOLY CRAP SEIJI YOUR QUIRK IS HORRIFYING. IT’S LIKE BLOODBENDING TIMES A MILLION. NEVER MAKE ME WATCH IT AGAIN.

So Seiji, as I’ve learned from reading ahead in the manga, is actually the Shiketsu equivalent of Iida, pretty much. And I also think he harbors a little bit of a crush on Camie, the Shiketsu equivalent of Uraraka. Coincidence? My shipper’s mind thinks not!

Episode 55 is half filler half canon material. It’s a decent episode of filler, though most of it is pretty silly and inconsequential. But the ending…that ending is from the manga, BTW, and it gives me chills, every time. That + some extra focus on Momo is more than enough to elevate this one for me beyond other filler episodes. I enjoy it more than episode 53-54 despite it technically not being as well-written, as filler, because it has more scenes I like. Subjectivity and all that.

BKDK - Highschool Romantics Headcanons

LOVE ME some good old fashioned highschool romance shenanigans so as per my brand, lets make it bkdk!! bc tbh i havent made a hc list in a while

its second year highschool! things have calmed down significantly and for class 1-A this means that its time to celebrate their teenage years like they werent able to before

this means more movie nights--more days they get to spend having fun and being regular kids like they shouldve always been

meanwhile bkdk? after confessions and apologies made on bloody battlefields and quiet hospitals at the dead of night... its almost comical how cheesy they are

deku sneaks up on kacchan during lunchbreaks, dragging him to the training fields where he serenades him with a guitar and laughs as a small crowd of their schoolmates whoop in glee

he sings songs of youthful love and friendship, awkward voice smoothing into something beautiful and charming

in return, katsuki learns new songs. he learns to draw and to play the drums even better--living for that shocked little smile when he draws doodles of deku and dedicates especially sappy songs to him during their monthly school jamming session

they arent together at this point, technically. no one knows what they are. no one can begin to label what they have either.

but its definitely good.

its bright and its beautiful and its loud, so theyll protect it with their eyes wide open but in the meantime class 1A just sits back and watches the twin stars of UA unravel like leaves in the cool mornings of fall

they go everywhere together, always holding hands. bakugou and deku have promise rings, little matching all might insignias glinting in the sun

they won those in an arcade somewhere. no one knows what the promise is, and no one really bothers to ask

katsuki really likes lending izuku his jackets. its nothing he says outright, just the fact that he's always ready—always one arm out of its sleeve—to bundle his sweaters and drop it into the lap of the unsuspecting nerd.

"geez, is it just me or is it really co—" *flop*

sometimes kirishima worries about his best friends allowance at the rate in which he has to replace all his jackets

they brawl in the hallways, rough house on the train station, cuddle when its cold and the common room is filled with people and light

deku often likes to surprise katsuki with little gifts. he sneaks spicy candies into the other boy's backpack between classes, slips giftcards and notes of appreciation between the pages of katsuki's textbooks

in return, as he does with everything, katsuki goes big. sometimes he surprises deku with a giant teddy bear, or soft hoodies that remind him of the other. he'll get the whole bakusquad in on it and fill the hallways in the morning with encouraging yells and loud boisterous laughter

sometimes, obviously, they'll still mess up. They're still teenagers, still human.

Deku will sometimes not say things that he should and Kacchan will sometimes say things he doesn't mean.

they'll fight and yell and unsettle the dorms with how charged the air becomes. sometimes Aizawa's worried they'll go back to ground beta and increase the hero course's already abysmal annual repair budget again like they used to do when they were stressed and repressed and each other obsessed

but then bakugou will sneak into dekus balcony at the dead of night, like some sort of delinquent trying to visit their goody two shoes lover at the risk of running into their shotgun father

(which in this case, bakugou supposes, would be uraraka--the metaphorical shotgun being a very tired todoroki)

and he'll knock on the window gently, trying not to smile as izuku opens the window and rubs the sleep from his eyes.

"ka... cchan?"

katsuki lets himself smirk at last and tells deku theyre sneaking out.

phrases it like a taboo secret, even as aizawa watches from the security footage room exasperated but also kind of relieved because of all things his class has gone through, a little midnight tryst is the least dangerous of them all. its not even close to the biggest secret deku's ever had, and by god he has plenty.

but he stifles his giggles into the palm of his hand and watches as bakugou precariously sits on the metal railing, clothes a mess and leaves still stuck in his hair

"Our little secret, okay?" Kacchan jokes, red eyes glimmering with something raw and perfect. "Don't tell your dad about me."

Izuku rolls his eyes and reminds him that All Might isn't actually his father, god Kacchan! You've met my real dad!

Yet still, he lets it pass.

And then, oh so carefully yet recklessly as if they weren't the most powerful duo of their generation, katsuki reaches out and slips deku's hands in his and takes him away

takes him to a beach (Dagobah, because of course it is) in the middle of the night, the stars brighter than theyve ever been because everything looks different when youre young and in love

they lay in the sand and listen to the waves and some weird beat thats been stuck in Izuku's head. Bakugou turns to watch his eyelashes flutter against freckled cheeks and holds out a pinky.

"I'm sorry. By the way. I didn't mean what I said and I want you to be happy."

Izuku hums and they talk it out. Eventually the other boy holds his pinky out too and they link together like pieces of a puzzle.

Under the stars, the two of them make a million promises. Promises that they know they'll break, promises that they know they won't, promises that leave them uncertain and guessing.

"—but you promise, though. Right? You promise that we'll still be by each other? Us against the world forever and ever even after this. Even when we grow old?"

Their pinkies stay linked together and the two boys know for sure that it's one of those highschool promises that they will keep forever.

Deku stares into pretty red eyes that remind him of juicy apples and warm bonfires beside friends who never run out of stories to tell

Katsuki stares back into clear green eyes that remind him of calming tea and lush grass he lays down on in the familiar heat of a summer afternoon

they just. stare. stare and stare and stare and maybe, they begin to think

maybe in those eyes, i can see our future.

and its good.

its really really good.

The spoilers have me laughing out of sheer frustration again. So 'Deku connected class 1A & Uraraka connected the civilians w Deku.' Pretty much confirms the explicit erasure we feared. Bc it's not as if class 1A put in the work here, nope. And apparently we've forgotten what Aizawa said, about TWO people being the ones who inspire the class. But no, sir. It's only Deku. Bakugo who? And now Uraraka gets the only other nod. Seriously, ugh. The whole class's efforts erased from the writing as well

There's been a lot of clumsy dialogue lately, but:

1. Let's wait for the official translation of Hawks' words. But remember, it's his perspective. Hawks didn't see the Class A meeting where Bakugou advocated for saving Deku, nor was he present in Nezu's office or during the apology. Hawks has no reason to emphasize Bakugou separately.

2. Connection has always been portrayed as a two-way thing.

Nii-chan reached out to Yoichi who took his hand.

All Might connected with Deku, because Deku first helped him connect back to himself.

Deku reached out to a lot of people in Class A, but Class A connected with each other, so they could connect with Deku, to help him connect with himself.

Uraraka facilitated the connection with the civilians, but the civilians who connect to Deku are the ones he himself saved. And in the end of the day, the civilians are connecting to each other and back to the heroes.

3. I was personally never a big fan of that "twin star" monologue of Aizawa - especially not in an arc, where Iida pulled more than half of class A through stage one of the licensing exam or Momo took a big part in pulling another group. I just don't think it necessarily represented the way the Class A connections / inspirations worked.

4. Class A includes Bakugou - so he gets a nod as part of that group. His portrayal in this arc has been emphasizing how he became part of Class A also mentally - he's standing with them, putting on a tie like the rest of them, doing his part of their combo moves, etc. It's a big growth moment for him to do that and I personally like that he doesn't get praised for behaving like a normal person - because I don't think he needs that kind of external validation now. Also, the apology is his humble moment - it's fitting that he's not immediately rewarded. How many times did Deku do something great and not get any praise for it and wasn't acknowledged at all by anyone? We, the readers, see what Bakugou did, how he grew and Deku heard him say his truth. Hearing Bakugou's words is what makes him really realize his own toxic mindset and how far he's from his own ideals.

5. I'm sure Bakugou will have his big moment - it's hard to wait, but I'm sure the narrative will soon be ready to lift him.

6. In the meantime, let's be happy with his moment with Kaminari. I love it that it's so normal and playful. Class A is not going to act weird with him even though he apologized in front of them talking pretty openly about his bully past. I think it's relevant that this is the first time anyone interacts with him and it's just really moving along from that tension. They are ok. They are even proud of their gremlin friend.

“Thirteen″ Tips for Writing About Synagogues / Jewish Writing Advice / Advice for Visiting Synagogues

So your story includes a Jew (or two) and you’ve a got a scene in a synagogue. Maybe there’s a bar mitzvah, maybe your gentile protagonist is visiting their partner’s synagogue. Maybe there’s a wedding or a community meeting being held there. For whatever reason, you want a scene in a shul. I’m here as your friendly (virtual) neighborhood Jewish professional to help you not sound like a gentile who thinks a synagogue is just a church with a Star of David instead of a cross. 

Quick note: The are lots of synagogues around the world, with different specific cultural, local, and denominational practices. The Jewish community is made up of roughly 14 million people worldwide with all sorts of backgrounds, practices, life circumstances, and beliefs. I’m just one American Jew, but I’ve had exposure to Jewishness in many forms after living in 3.5 states (at several different population densities/layouts), attending Jewish day school and youth groups, doing Jewish college stuff, and landing a job at a Jewish non-profit. I’m speaking specifically in an American or Americanish context, though some of this will apply elsewhere as well. I’m also writing from the view of Before Times when gatherings and food and human contact was okay.

Bear in mind as well, in this discussion, the sliding scale of traditional observance to secular/liberal observance in modern denominations: Ultraorthodox (strict tradition), Modern Orthodox (Jewish law matters but we live in a modern world), Conservative (no relation to conservative politics, brands itself middle ground Judaism), Reconstructionist (start with Jewish law and then drop/add bits to choose your own adventure), and Reform (true build your own adventure, start at basically zero and incorporate only as you actively choose).

Synagogue = shul = temple. Mikvah (ritual bath) is its own thing and usually not attached to the shul. Jewish cemeteries are also typically nowhere near the shul, because dead bodies are considered impure.   

A Bar/Bat/Bnai Mitzvah is the Jewish coming of age ceremony. Bar (“son”) for boys at 13+, Bat (“daughter”) at 12+, and Bnai (“children”) for multiples (i.e. twins/triplets/siblings) or non-binary kids (although the use of the phrase “Bnai Mitzvah” this way is pretty new). 12/13 is the minimum, 12-14 the norm but very Reform will sometimes allow 11 and anybody above 12/13 can have theirs. Probably a dedicated post for another time. Generally, however, the following will happen: the kid will lead some parts of services, read from and/or carry the Torah, and make a couple of speeches. 

Attire: think Sunday Best (in this case Saturday), not come as you are. Even at very liberal reconstructionist/reform synagogues you wouldn’t show up in jeans and a t-shirt or work overalls. Unless they are seriously disconnected from their culture, your Jewish character is not coming to Saturday morning services in sneakers and jeans (their gentile guest, however, might come too casual and that’d be awkward).  1a. The more traditional the denomination, the more modest the attire. Outside of orthodoxy woman may wear pants, but dresses/skirts are more common. Tights for anything above knee common for Conservative/Reform/Recon, common for even below knee for orthodox shuls. Men will typically be wearing suits or close to it, except in very Reform spaces.  1b. Really, think business casual or nice dinner is the level of dressiness here for regular services. Some minor holidays or smaller events more casual is fine. Social events and classes casual is fine too.  1c. Even in reform synagogues, modesty is a thing. Get to the knee or close to it. No shoulders (this an obsession in many Jewish religious spaces for whatever reason), midriffs, or excessive cleavage (as I imagine to be the norm in most houses of worship). 

Gendered clothing:  3a. Men and boys wear kippahs (alt kippot, yarmulkes) in synagogues, regardless of whether they’re Jewish or not out of respect to the space. Outside of Jewish spaces it’s saying “I’m a Jew” but inside of Jewish spaces it’s saying “I’m a Jew or a gentile dude who respects the Jewish space.”  Outside of very Reform shuls, it’s a major faux pass to be a dude not wearing one.  3b. There are little buckets of loaner kippahs if you don’t bring your own and commemorative kippahs are given away at events (bar mitzvah, weddings). Your Jewish dude character not bringing or grabbing one is basically shouting “I’m new here.”  3c. Women are permitted to wear kippahs, but the adoption of a the traditionally masculine accessory will likely be interpreted by other Jews as LGBTQ+ presentation, intense feminism, and/or intense but nontraditional devoutness. Nobody will clutch their pearls (outside of ultraorthodoxy) but your character is sending a message.  3d. Tefillin are leather boxes and wrappings with prayers inside them that some Jewish men wrap around their arms (no under bar mitzvah or gentiles). Like with the kippah, a woman doing this is sending a message of feminism and/or nontraditional religious fervor.  3e. Additionally, prayer shawls, known as tallit, are encouraged/lightly expected of Jewish males (over 13) but not as much as Kippahs are. It is more common to have a personal set of tallit than tefillin. Blue and white is traditional, but they come in all sorts of fun colors and patterns now. Mine is purple and pink. It is much more common for women to have tallit and carries much fewer implications about their relationship to Judaism than wearing a kippah does.  3f. Married woman usually cover their hair in synagogues. Orthodox women will have wigs or full hair covers, but most Jewish woman will put a token scarf or doily on their head in the synagogue that doesn’t actually cover their hair. The shul will also have a doily loaner bucket. 

Jewish services are long (like 3-4 hours on a Saturday morning), but most people don’t get there until about the 1-1.5 hour mark. Your disconnected Jewish character or their gentile partner might not know that though. 

Although an active and traditional synagogue will have brief prayers three times every day, Torah services thrice a week, holiday programming, and weekly Friday night and Saturday morning services, the latter is the thing your Jewish character is most likely attending on the reg. A typical Saturday morning service will start with Shacharit (morning prayers) at 8:30-9, your genre savvy not-rabbi not-Bnai mitzvah kid Jewish character will get there around 9:30-10:15. 10:15-10:30 is the Torah service, which is followed by additional prayers. Depending on the day of the Jewish year (holidays, first day of new month, special shabbats), they’ll be done by 12:30 or 1 p.m. Usually.  After that is the oneg, a communal meal. Onegs start with wine and challah, and commence with a full meal. No waiting 4-8 hours to have a covered-dish supper after services. The oneg, outside of very, very, very Reform spaces will be kosher meat or kosher dairy. 

To conduct certain prayers (including the mourner’s prayers and the Torah service) you need a Minyan, which at least 10 Jewish “adults” must be present, defined as post Bar/Bat/Bnai Mitzvah. In Conservative/Reform/Recon, men and women are counted equally. In Ultraorthodox women are not counted. In Modern Orthodox it depends on the congregation, and some congregations will hold women’s-only services as well with at least ten “adult” Jewish women present.

In Conservative and Orthodox shuls, very little English is used outside of speeches and sermons. Prayers are in Hebrew, which many Jews can read the script of but not understand. Transliterations are also a thing.  In Reform synagogues, there’s heavy reliance on the lingua franca (usually English in American congregations). Reconstructionist really varies, but is generally more Hebrew-based than Reform. 

We’re a very inquisitive people. If your character is new to the synagogue, there will be lots of questions at the post-services oneg (meal, typically brunch/lunch). Are you new in town? Have you been here before? Where did you come from? Are you related to my friend from there? How was parking? Do you know my cousin? Are you single? What is your mother’s name? What do you think of the oneg - was there enough cream cheese? What summer camp did you go to? Can you read Hebrew? Have you joined?  A disconnected Jew or gentile might find it overwhelming, but many connected Jews who are used to it would be like “home sweet chaos” because it’s OUR chaos. 

In Orthodox synagogues, men and women have separate seating sections. There may be a balcony or back section, or there may be a divider known as a mechitzah in the middle. Children under 12/13 are permitted on either side, but over 12/13 folks have to stay one section or the other. Yes, this is a problem/challenge for trans and nonbinary Jews.  Mechitzahs are not a thing outside of orthodoxy. Some older Conservative synagogues will have women’s sections, but no longer expect or enforce this arrangement.   

Money. Is. Not. Handled. On. Shabbat. Or. Holidays. Especially. Not. In. The. Synagogue. Seriously, nothing says “goy writing Jews” more than a collection plate in shul. No money plate, no checks being passed around, even over calls for money (as opposed to just talking about all the great stuff they do and upcoming projects) are tacky and forbidden on Shabbat. Synagogues rely on donations and dues, and will solicit from members, but don’t outright request money on holidays and Shabbat. 

Outside of Reform and very nontraditional Conservative spaces, no instruments on Shabbat or holidays. No clapping either. Same goes for phones, cameras, and other electronics outside of microphones (which aren’t permitted in Orthodox services either).  11a. In the now-times an increasing number of shuls have set up cameras ahead of time pre-programmed to record, so they don’t have to actively “make fire” which is “work” (this is the relevant commandment/mitzvah) on Shabbat, so services can be live-streamed. 11b. After someone has completed an honor (reading from the Torah, carrying the Torah, opening the ark, etc), the appropriate response is a handshake after and the words “Yasher Koach” (again, Before-Times).

Jewish services involve a lot of movement. Get up, sit down. Look behind you, look in front of you. Twist left, twist right. A disconnected Jew or gentile visitor would be best off just trying to follow along with what an exchange student we had once termed “Jewish choreography.” Some prayers are standing prayers (if able), some are sitting prayers. It’s just how it is, although a handful of prayers have variations on who stands.

They’re role is being Beatles twins, meaning they just always traveled around with the Beatles and we’re given their name. I’m 1969, Scarlett falls in love with Roger Taylor (from queen but then it was smile) meanwhile Star was always in love with George Harrison but soon as Pattie left him for Eric (I fast forward it by like four years) those two quickly started dating.

Scarlett is the goodie two shoes and Star is the chaotic one, they are very connected tho and almost do everything together. They’re in my book LIYF and my comfort characters basically.

I used two types of pics art ones a Star Wars one (bc that’s where she’s from) and the other is a random one I liked. This is Len-Ella Sheoak, she is the niece of Yoda, she’s half human, half yoda species. The idea for her is she ages up to the adult age then her yoda species gene comes in and she ages slowly like yoda, she is practically alive during all thee trilogies. She’s 19 in episode one and follows around Obi-wan and Qui-gon then becomes a master by the end of episode one.

This is Kioko Mori, she’s my MHA oc. I created her today in choirs bc I got bored lol. Her quirk is burn body, which means her whole body can go into flames and she can shoot fire. Her hero name is Phoenix, and in class 1A who has a massive crush on Shoto and was besties with deku. Her dislikes r bakugo (from how he used to bully deku) but that eventually wears off but she hates mineta the most 😌
