"He didn't truly love me, He just... Worshipped me. Like it was his duty to make me happy. He treated me, our bed, like it was some sort of - of obligation! I couldn't tell what he wanted, he refused to tell me no!" Twilight sobbed, climbing into Celestia's nest like she was a filly again.

Celestia nuzzled her gently, letting her get comfortable before wiping Twilight's tears away with a handkerchief. "Looking back, he never, ever told me no." She said, heartbroken. "He lied! And kept lying. I just wanted him to love me! Really love me! But all he DOES IS LIE ABOUT WHAT HE WANTS!" Twilight screamed.

She didn't know, how could she have known that he lied and kept lying for the sake of her own experience?

"WHY DIDN'T HE TELL ME?" She sobbed. She learned about everything second hand from listening in on gossip. All about how Flash not liking certain things they did together and how he faked his enthusiasm for her gifts and regularly pushed himself past the point of what he would normally feel comfortable consenting to just because she wanted it. She had to learn it from paying guardsman for gossip and a few concerned friends of his who had the courage to burst her bubble the last time she set up a fun dinner date.

All she wanted was a partner. Some company. Now, she had to have this weighing on her. Heartbroken didn't begin to explain the whirlwind of emotions inside her. From all the talks they would have to have before the inevitable break up, to potential consent seminars that will be needed - what was she thinking? Why did she ever think that this would pan out? Even after promoting him up and out of the Royal Guard, their dynamic never changed. Dear Celestia, she was blind to it all!

Celestia nuzzled her again. "Do you mind if I sort out your wings? They are very ... unkept, at the moment." Twilight nodded, and Celestia got to work smoothing the feathers a plucking out a few broken and loose ones and encouraging the pin feathers growing in their place open.

Twilight sighed, calming somewhat, tears still streaming down her face. She never meant to do that to him, but she couldn't change the past. "Sleep, little sister." Celestia whispered. "Luna and I will handle it." Twilight was already half asleep, as she had been up all night crying.

There was still a few more hours before Celestia had to leave her student to raise the sun. She decided that she could be Twilight's living heater for a few more hours before Celestia had to go raise the sun.

She was still there when Luna came and got her, taking Celestia's place. Flash had already been transferred to a new, but just as prestigious, post.

Soon, as the decades passed, it would all blow over, forgotten in the collective memory of Canterlot.

But for now, Twilight's mistakes would rightfully sting, learning a lesson that Luna wished she never needed.
