Papyrus does lie and does say things that are suspicious but sometimes I see posts picking apart (what I think are) the wrong things, because they’re not considering the context as a whole. The game is funny. There are a lot of jokes all over the place. A character with depth will talk normal one second and then lose all braincells the next because their comedy partner showed up.

It’s good to think about and analyze because it’s a great mental exercise and will improve your overall reading and comprehension with future stories (games, books, etc). But sometimes, the answer to “why did he lie?” is “because he thought it’d be funny.”

“Papyrus pretends to be clueless in front of Sans to hide his true intelligence for mysterious reasons” or. and hear me out on this one. you gotta be dumb to set the joke up sometimes.

That’d be like saying my brother genuinely believes the random object he picked up is a telephone and that he can actually hear a voice on the other side ask for me. Except the joke is that I take the phone, and I go, “Uh huh, uh huh, okay….” and with a look of horror and shock I look at him and say, “They hit the second tower.” Sometimes he goes ahead and says the punchline himself. Still doesn’t mean it’s a real phone call to him.

Sometimes you gotta ask, “what’s updog?” You know the punchline. It’s just a routine for fun at this point. A reason to laugh in the middle of the day, because someone remembered the joke and wanted to share it.

jim and oli meet up immediately. they go to jimmys graveyard and olis died a bunch and he called himself mrs canary. blond boyfriends is "one night only" and oli said no flower husbands. they started making jokes about closing tumblr and ao3..... blond boyfriends are dead </3 jimmy then says they dont spend their evenings browsing those sites then oli says speak for yourself im mr wattpad

oli says "put on something sexy" for the talent show because both of them forgot to make skins for it. jimmy says hes not putting on the maid one (oli: i will) then oli suggests they both put on maid skins. grrrrr

(oli: why dont you want to be a maid? why dont you want to be a maid? you loved it you had a thumbnail about it and everything, you loved it, you loved it! stop pretending you didnt love it!

jimmy: i only do it on special occasions...... i only wear the maid dress one time on one series....... i cant do it twice........

oli: yeah but this is a different character, this is blond boyfriend jimmy, its like a whole different action figure!

then they ask chat to make oli a maid skin since he doesnt have one. specifically with the same face as jimmys (the derpy face) then they realise they need an invisiblity potion for their talent show thing so they go to steal one from pixs furious cocktail machine. they go material gathering for more talent show stuff and split up.

(he kept making spongebob references. i think im going insane)

they meet back up. on the way jimmy goes to sausages house to steal some milk and he sees saus so he stabs him and runs away. oli found a weird pillager looking base in sausages house and shows jimmy to see how he would react to it. (u know how his voice goes when hes lying? Yeah) then after talking for a bit about who they think is a pillager (lizzie) they split up again.

they meet up again and switch skins to their maid ones,,, then they start practising their dance for the talent show. not a lot happens other than flirting and oli theatening to kill himself if they lose. then they head over to the talent show and oli sings a gay little song on the way. he tries to make it sound less gay but it turns into sounding like a one night stand.

they arrive and sausage admires the outifts and asks if they want to work at the tavern later. oli says yes (only if they dont win) and jimmy doesnt say anything about it. they take their seats and jimmy sits in front of scott. hes standing on the back of the stair instead of the front so scott asks him to move so hes not blocking scotts view. jimmy says not my fault im 6 foot so scott hits him and he ends up landing on the back of the seat in front (which is eloises). eloise hits him back. he gets hit around a bit (notably laughing) then scott pulls his sword out and asks out loud how much of a blockage a grave will be. jimmy then shakes his head and goes please no i dont have any armour on :( and scotts like haha i know. then the talent show starts

mog introduces the show and prays for no deaths. first event with no deaths. please. he reads a poem for his pet sweetpea that died. its actually really good but the fact that its about a minecraft bee does make me giggle. the judges are fwhip, eloise, and katherine. not entirely people who hate jimmy.... he has a chance....... how the judging works is the 3 judges have redstone lamps that are ON and if they turn them OFF they dont like the act. if all 3 lamps turn off you have to leave the stage.

first act is shubble :) she makes cat jokes. i think theyre funny. fwhip turns off his lamp and shubble says "quit the catattitude". eloise also turns off her light. she ends her performance with 1 light on!

sausage goes next...... hes doing a play about boat boys. joel audibly sighs in the audience. sausage is wearing an etho skin and drags joel on stage. saus tries to get joel to say he loves etho but joel just goes I LOVE MY WIFE!! lizzies in the audience and she doesnt react at all. "etho" then goes on to say they have a kid together. then it ends with 2 lights on. (technically 1 but katherine turned off eloises light. then eloise turned off fwhips light but he turned it back on.)

then oli and jimmy go!!! fwhip turns off his light almost immediately but they basically just make puppy dog eyes at him until he turns it back on. they start with their dancing and they get the audience to join in. its much more organised than the rehersals. then they go onto the disappearing act. fwhip turned his light off again but eloise and katherine seem to be loving it. jimmy splashes himself with the invisiblity potion (and accidentally catches oli in it) then runs behind the seats and drinks milk. eloise turned her light off too :( but katherine and the audience really like it. they try to do their drowning act but theres a conduit power which makes it less interesting. they end the performance with 1 light on.....

then its mogs turn! hes. racing people. and jumping very high. then he starts flying. i genuinely think hes hacking and i respect the dedication to the bit. then he starts walking on water. i think he ended with all 3 lights on.

judging time....... notable thing is katherine gave oli and jim a 10/10.

Ok the maid dress......... I'm not too upset by it because I accept Oli joining in with the maid outfit thing as a valid form of helping Jimmy heal. Not that Oli INTENDS to do that (he's too stupid) but... Him insisting "you loved it! You did!" makes me want to throw up but he's stupid. He's his own fucked up thing who I don't see as participating in the Jimmy "bottom of the food chain" bullying culture. Oli's fooling around and I still hate his insistence on Jimmy liking the maid ordeal (and even here, Jimmy is voicing the opposite!! sobs) but then he goes and puts on a maid dress too. It might be unsubstantial fun and jokes for him, but at least Jimmy's not alone on that now in a sense... Even the derpy face is the same... And same with "I'm mrs canary now". It's more "haha we both suck" and less "you suck/I suck almost as bad as you". More affectionate and less derogatory

Oli saying he'll kill himself if they lose kinda sucks because Jimmy frequently gets blamed for failures of groups he's part of, and if not, he might just blame himself and apologize anyway. But at the same time if they did lose, I cannot imagine Oli blaming it on Jimmy. He'd only address it as them both being equally at fault. Shared failure... The bar is really low ok

Thinking more on my "Sonic/FNF fans must Suffer" post, it's really interesting that the FNF fandom has an almost exaggerated case study of "fandoms for silly media make dark fan works"

FNF is a goofy, raunchy romp that only occasionally takes itself seriously, but easily the most popular/used genres of FNF mods are dark creepypastas of lighthearted media, which is like twice the edge

There are far more mods based on these creepypastas compared to the original media or even creepypastas with original characters, like Jeff or Laughing Jack

Even outside of the tidal wave of Sonic.exe mods, the most popular mods for works like Mario and SpongeBob are not mods based off official stuff, but instead Mario's Madness and Mistful Crimson Morning, which are wholly focused on creepypasta and other dark and edgy content made by their respective communities

And then you have the onslaught of Pibby mods, a sub community still going strong despite Pibby itself never getting picked up for a full series. It's like the creepypasta mods for animation, you'll be far more likely to find a Pibby mod for a cartoon than something based on the actual cartoon (or at least something that isn't a shitpost)

Even before these types of mods became popular, you had stuff like Corruption, a dark zombie apocalypse-style mod, that had a chokehold on the FNF fandom back in the day, and still have a popular niche despite being far less prominent

Mistakes.

Absolutely, so many times. For the sake of not making other people feel bad, I'll focus this answer entirely on my own mistakes. And these mistakes are most often noticeable with visual rips, which I have a lot of.

The First Law of Video Editing

No matter how carefully you edit, there will always be at least one mistake you only notice after the video's published.

Here's a major example: "The SiIvaGunner 7th Anniversary Art Gallery"

I edited together this video. As you can see in the description, there are three corrections listed, because while I went through many drafts, I didn't completely watch the final draft all the way through. Big mistake. The background music fades went out of sync twice, overlapping with video submissions, and Sinci1 was credited incorrectly. I felt pretty bad about it, but I felt better that we were able to add corrections. I edited 2024's gallery too, and tried to avoid mistakes as much as possible, doing so many once-overs and getting more eyes on it. I'm sure there's at least one mistake somewhere in there though, but at least the audio was fine.

Sometimes you can pass off mistakes as intentional jokes:

That was a mistake, but maybe it works because he's not supposed to be in the "original" video.

And for a throwback, an example of an obvious mistake I made (9:54) on a video before I ever contributed to SiIva:

The art for that shot was already made! I just forgot to put it in before rendering, and didn't watch the very final version (again, always watch your final versions all the way through, even if you're tired of it.) We passed it off as a gag, but I had to make sure to never do that again lol.

In terms of audio in rips, a recent example is this rip: Forest Moon Lake - Ganbare Goemon Kirakira Dōchū: Boku ga Dancer ni Natta Wake

Really subtle mistake, but at 0:46, both string layers are in the same right-panned channel, instead of one being in the left and the other being in the right like they're supposed to be the whole time.

I have several other musical examples from my own rips, but I don't know if I want to send them because I feel like it might damage the listening experience, hahah… it already has for me, on a few of them, but I try my best to ignore it.

Often times the mistakes are pretty subtle though, or technically not mistakes but things I wish I had done, or had planned to do but forgot about. For example, in Ruby Illusions - Final Boss (In-Game Version) (Beta Mix) - Sonic Mania, I had an pink-tinted fog overlay over the video (meant to represent Fools' Spirit), but while editing it I turned it off to be able to see the stuff behind it better, and I forgot to turn it back on when I finished.

To be fair, I was crunching the fuck out of that video… I had a real life adventure on the way to get that video made, but that's a story for another time.

Mistakes happen all the time, and everyone does it, very much including me. Just don't beat yourself up over it, like I have. I'm learning to let it go, like water off a duck's back.

Writer Guy's only "friend" who sucks majorly. Notes under da cut. Heart.

Firstly ☝️ he's heavily inspired by the experience of having someone follow you around even after you have told them very explicitly to stop doing so. Writer Guy will look him dead in the eye and say "I don't care about anything you have to say. Leave me alone, you annoy the shit outta me", and he'll just go "Bro you're always so funny LOL I'm probably the only one that gets ur sense of humor. Anyways, about my new podcast idea..."

This guy's deal is that he's obsessed with others' perception of him. He's an aspiring influencer and can't decide between being a youtuber, a streamer, or having a podcast. He's into crypto and defends NFTs like it's his job.

He met Writer Guy in college and has stuck to him like a leech ever since, even though they only had a few classes together. His reasoning was that Writer Guy seemed like the lone-wolf type and thus would attract attention with his ~mysterious~ charm, when in reality he was so boring that no one really paid him any mind. If you ask any of their ex-classmates, you'll find that no one really remembers either of them.

He spends a lot of time in r/shortguys and gets frustrated that he can't relate to the whole "women only ever pay attention to tall guys and we manlets are all martyrs" thing cause he's never even tried to get with a girl (he will lie about this). He's gay as hell but in almost complete denial. Genuinely believes stuff like "it's not gay with the socks on".

I also gotta mention that his role in Mary and Writer Guy's story is very, very minimal, and that he never actually meets Mary. His story is a typical yaoi one where he falls in love with some guy and has one of those cliché "I'm not gay... why do I feel like this towards another man ?!?!!" moments. I chose to do it this way cuz I think it's funny as fuck to have him experience a romcom type thing while Writer Guy is basically Spongebob in the Silent Hill corridor.

I admit I'm not 100% sold on his hair, but it's brown for sure. Why? It just makes sense.

Some design notes including the other two:

Writer Guy is generally apathetic and would be considered boring at a surface level by 99,9% of the population. He teaches philosophy (ethics, specifically) at the college Mary attends, though they weren't aware of each other before The Events. His lectures are notoriously boring and many of his students sleep thru class or just skip them completely, but he passes them all anyways.

He's a writer in his spare time and writes trashy extreme horror on his (anonymous) blog, which is how Mary becomes aware of him. Stuff happens, his superiors (who are at best ambivalent towards him) find out about his hobby, he gets fired and doesn't care enough to defend himself or to raise any concerns about the school's attitude towards its teachers' private lives.

I'm very obviously still figuring out how to draw him, but the drawing on the right is what he looks like at work. Just plain dorky and someone you would not look twice at.

I would also talk about his relationship with Mary, but for that I'd need to talk about Mary first, which I can't do rn cuz this post is already long enough and it's nearing 3 AM and she makes me absolutely BONKERS insane to the point I barely even know where to start when I wanna talk about her.

She's the only OC I have ever made a playlist for. I wish she was someone else's character so I could look at her without having to do the work myself.

A little fun fact about her is she used to dye her hair black before The Events. All I got for you rn.

watched episode 3

i think this show might be bad at female characters. i tried to be fair to gwen when analyzing her because i felt i might be bad at analyzing female characters but now that ive seen three episodes i realized its not just me. this show has basically NO female characters whatsoever. so far theres been gwen and...bens teacher? who is shown exactly twice for a whopping screen time of like two minutes and three lines. and thats. that's about it. theres like literally, no i think there's ACTUALLY, no other female characters so far save for an extra or two.

i cant even blame this on the show being from the 2000s cuz avatar the last air bender is *verifies online* yep from the exact same year and yet has a bunch of prominent female characters that are actual unique characters rather than just archetypes. phineas and ferb aired just a couple years after ben 10 and also do well for female characters. im pretty sure even spongebob does better than ben 10 here.

i didnt notice it the first time watching but its a little bizarre now that i did. in modern shows it's incredibly common for not just female characters but characters from all sorts of groups to be in any and every role. its a point of pride even as shows try to be as inclusive as possible. there is still some of that in the 2000s but not nearly as much. female leads for instance would be unusual in a show not explicitly made for girly girls (example: club winx. totally spies). but it would be standard to include at least one girl character (the token girl), and would not be at all unusual to include girls in other roles as well. ben 10 though just said "no thanks" and basically only included the token girl. bens and gwens bickering now becomes funny on a meta level cuz even the characters arnt happy that shes there. well except max anyway. ben literally asks what shes even doing there like he knows this isnt the show for her, and honestly? maybe we should've gotten that lucky girl spinoff. maybe she wouldve been better served by having her own show that actually knew how to write women.

i dont have much to say about the actual episode.

its a typical ben 10 adventure. it is the first time ben couldnt just punch his way out of a problem though, as theres a whole thing of who is the real bad guy that he has to figure out first. a mystery episode, and its a decent mystery as well, just not unusual for the ben 10 franchise. but i guess that's probably because this is one of the episodes that would set the precedent for how the show is written.

i would say the fight scenes and fight choreography in this show is top notch, and the animation in general. which i forgot to mention in my last post. but the fight with the kraken is one of my all time favorite fight scenes.

also max isnt as selfish in this episode so maybe i was too quick to judge him

and that guy...captain...shaw? sho? sh-never mind. exposition guy. i like him. hes a good true neutral character. he aint a bad guy but he can be trouble and you gotta watch out for him. he dont respect authority and he aint no snitch. hes unlikeable enough i dont root for him but i like him around. honestly maybe he shouldve been in more episodes.
