Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness
“I just wanted to come see how you were settling in, I know that being in a new place can be jarring to those who have been on the outside.” As Deanna spoke, Carol slipped from Daryl’s hold and fell in line behind him, as if he was protecting her.
In an unconscious move, Rick stepped forward, using his body as a shield to block the Alexandrian’s view of the group. “We’re just getting used to bein’ behind walls again. Tends to make us jumpy.” The alpha understood, nodding in sympathy.
“You're safe now, both from roamers and other people. These walls are strong, nothing can get in.” Rick's hair stood on end. That's what they said about the prison. The air in the small house was tense as an awkwardness fell over the group.
Carol shifted then, the floorboards creaked loudly.
Deanna's brown eyes flashed, catching sight of Carol’s excited state, but said nothing. She walked back out of the house, glancing back only once with a silent warning to stay in the house. “Have a good rest of your night.”
As soon as the door shut behind her, Carol exploded. “Please, we have to go.”
Rick sighed heavily through his nose. “First, you tell us what happened.” The other's attention flicked back to the omega who was now trembling with nerves.
She glanced around, searching for some sort of approval to take off again, this time with the pack alphas in tow but when she only received looks of confusion and general concern, her excitement died down to a simmer. “I was going to the armoury but something about that woman they had in the infirmary bothered me.”
The house was easy to break into given that there seemed to be no locks in the entire city. Darkness clung to every corner, creating an eerie air that set her on edge as she moved to the basement of the home.
The snarls coming from the back room were downright savage as Carol snuck closer, her shoes not making any sound against the cold concrete. The scent emanating from the room was sour but the undertones were incredibly familiar, like something nostalgic, reminding her of a better time. With a trembling hand, the omega twisted the doorknob, pushing the door open slowly.
Her breath caught in her throat at the sight of the woman curled up in the corner of the room. A tattered shirt hung from her frame, the ripped cloth doing nothing to keep her warm or hide her distended stomach. It looked wrong, the way the huge bump was hanging off her frame, how skinny she now was. The natural softness she carried was now gone, the thick curves she was known for, had disappeared. Her eyes were a bright amber, a tell-tale sign of the omega having gone feral.
But beneath the dirt and grime, Carol could see that young omega they thought they lost, she could see the two claiming marks on opposite sides of her neck, each one with a bite radius matching the two men who had been desperately searching for her.
She gasped involuntarily and the omega's yellow eyes snapped to Carol and a growl echoed through her chest. It was so deep and so unnatural it legitimately frightened the unshakeable woman. A warning. 'Stay away, I will kill you to protect my pup'.
She took a step back but didn’t leave the room. Her head was lowered, her eyes locked on the woman’s. “I'll be back ok. Stay here.” The answer came in the form of another growl as Carol turned and ran out, gunning straight back to her pack.
“Are you sure?” It was Carl that broke the silence when she finished speaking. His eyes sparkled with tears and stepped closer to her. “Is it really her?”
“It ain’t her.” Daryl snapped. “She's dead.” Carl swallowed thickly, leaning into his father's side for some sort of comfort. He had lost two mothers less than 6 months apart from each other and he could hardly bear it.
Rick placed a hand on his boy's shoulder. “We don't know that for sure but Daryl's right, the probability that it is,” he tried to say her name but it caught in his throat, choking him, “it's incredibly unlikely.”
Carol snapped back. “I know what I saw and I was around her enough to have her scent permanently etched into my mind. It's her.”
“No it ain't!” Daryl was red with rage but the tear that rolled down his dusty cheek told an entirely different story, one that everyone in that room knew all-too-well. If she was alive, they had left her behind to die, turning her savage in the process.
Even before the world fell, there were cases of omega and alphas going feral, even some betas in rare instances. It was a survival tactic. With the brain reverting back to its primal self, anyone could survive the most dire of circumstances. It only usually happened with soldiers or people trapped in an abusive relationship.
But now, Rick supposed, it would be extremely common. “But if Carol's right, there's no telling if we would be able to bring Y/N back. Who knows how long she's been feral for.” Glenn pointed out, somehow managing to make everyone feel worse.
“I'll go back and check it out with Carol. If she's right, we can try to help her. We have both of her alphas and both of her pups, that should do something. And if it isn't her, we can move on.” Taking charge, Maggie spoke up but looked to Rick for approval given the severity of the consequences should two members of their group be found wandering well after dark.
His first instinct was to say no, there was no way he could risk all of their safeties for one person (even if it was his omega and unborn pup) but as he looked over his pack and watching how their eyes lit up with both despair and hope, he knew that he couldn't refuse. “If you're not back in 20 minutes-”
Carol had taken Maggie's hand and was out the door before he could finish his sentence. He huffed. “Y'all go get some more sleep, we don't know what's gonna happen tomorrow.” That appeased the others, especially since they had almost no clue who Y/N was save for some vague mentions of her.
Carl and Daryl stayed in the foyer. “It ain't her.” But Daryl's voice was broken and weak. Conflict swirled in the blue of his eyes. He wanted so badly for her to be alive but to be alive and in that condition because of his inability to protect her- it was killing him.
“It's not your fault. Or my dad's. This could be our chance to get her back.” Carl almost begged the other man. “Just have hope.” Daryl scoffed and turned his back on them, storming off to a quiet part of the house.
“Go check on your sister, I'll deal with him.” Rick followed after, his own heart heavy with guilt.
Maggie kept her head on a swivel, watching for any movement from the empty streets and dark houses. Carol however, had her eyes locked forwards, speeding back to the infirmary.
A light drizzle had started, cooling down the warm night air considerably but that wasn't the cause of Carol's goosebumps. They had lost too many already, whether it was from walkers or even other humans, so the prospect of getting someone back was overwhelming. She thundered up the few steps and threw open the front door, Maggie close behind.
Carol was so deep in her excitement that she didn't notice that the yowling had stopped, but the other woman did. “Carol-” She started but her warning went ignored.
The basement door was open just wide enough for the dull yellow light of a lone lantern to illuminate the hallway. The wood slammed into the wall as the door was thrown open by the older omega, making both women freeze.
The room was barren save for a ratty blanket on the concrete ground. “She was here! I swear!” Maggie cautiously inched into the room. She scooped up the torn fabric and brought it up to her nose.
“I believe you, her scent is fresh.” The silent question was left hanging in the air, 'where did she go?'.
——————
It had taken less than 2 weeks for the relative safety of Alexandria to collapse. The first cracks had appeared on that first night. When Maggie and Carol returned alone but with a blanket that reeked of their lost packmate, Daryl had almost gone mad searching the town for her. He had caught her scent only once and it was outside the wall. It led them all to question the strength of the huge steel plates if a starved and heavily pregnant omega could scale it.
Then Noah was gone and the rift between the Alexandrians and them got even larger. It seemed like nothing could unite the two groups, especially after Rick became de-facto leader after Reg’s death.
Everything felt so wrong and out of place. With the discovery of the herd in the quarry and the realisation that Y/N was still alive somewhere, those feelings only got worse for Carl.
Chaos rippled through Alexandria, leaving deep panic and blood in its wake. People had somehow scaled the great walls of the city and had already killed so many of their own. A bulk of the fighters were gone, effectively leaving the women and children undefended and woefully underprepared for any attack.
Adrenaline coursed through Carl's veins, sharpening his senses but his reactions were still a milli-second too slow. There was already a cut along his forearm that burned and his hands trembled. Enid was silent beside him, Judith pinned to her chest as the three of them darted into another house on the outskirts of town.
The image of that man with the 'W' carved into his forehead flashed behind Carl's eyelids, just the same as every other person he had killed. Enid began to speak but he turned his back on her, instead silently looking through the house for any unwanted guests.
This whole thing was so painfully reminiscent of the Governor’s attack and the only thing he could do was keep him and Judith safe. They would survive just like before.
He breathed a sigh of relief as the rooms turned up empty and quiet. “What do we do now?” Enid spoke up, her voice strained with panic.
“I guess we wait.” Dust floated up from the couch as the teens sat down, finally able to catch their breaths.
Judith cooed at her older brother before looking up at the ceiling and repeating the sound, this time even louder. “Is she seeing ghosts or something?” Edith attempted to joke but instead just got silence back and the baby taken from her arms.
“She just likes making noises.” As if to confirm his theory, Judith chose that moment to squeal excitedly, wiggling in his arms without taking her eyes off of the ceiling.
The wood above them creaked, sending a light dusting of plaster down onto the three children. Carl and Enid seized with fear while Judith continued to make noise.
“Stay here.” With the baby quickly thrust back into her arms, Enid had no choice but to remain on the couch, watching with wide eyes as Carl drew his gun and cautiously climbed the stairs to the second floor.
He was sure he had checked every room carefully. He knew he did. But as he got closer to the master bedroom and the noises got louder, he began to doubt himself. His steps were light, desperately trying to avoid any creaky floorboards that would alert whatever was hiding about his position.
His knuckles were deathly pale as he tightened his grip around his gun, the barrel trembled only slightly with his nerves. Carl pushed the bedroom door open with the end of the weapon and once again was met with a completely empty room but the soft groaning was still present and he could now tell that it was leaking from the closet on the opposite end.
A sudden shout from Judith made him jump but his attention snapped back to the closet when something slammed into the wood heavily.
“Just a walker, it’s just a walker.” He murmured to himself. His left hand dropped from the butt of the pistol and he gingerly grabbed the doorknob, ready to turn it and then immediately back off to give himself some room for a clean shot.
Taking in a single deep breath, he steadied his gun and refocused his senses. Then he turned the knob.
Silence overtook the room but only for a few seconds when the sound of chains shifting emanated from the small dark space. Then a foot stepped over the threshold, and a hand curled into the doorframe as whatever was trapped inside finally pulled itself out.
The first thing Carl saw was her eyes- bright yellow with the pupils near the size of pin drops as they locked onto him. They weren’t the eyes of a walker. Even fresh, the ghouls supported milky white irises.
She did not snarl at him nor lunge, instead her head tilted and she sniffed the air. She took another step forward and finally Carl could see her two claiming marks, and more importantly, her pregnant belly.
“Mom.” The word slipped from his mouth before he could stop it. She froze and a purr rumbled through the room. “Yeah! You know me, it’s Carl. And Judith is downstairs. You remember Judith don’t you?” She blinked at him, there was no comprehension behind her eyes.
Carl sighed. “We’ll work on it.”
It was only then that he noticed the heavy chain around her neck. There were spots of blood along her collarbone from where the metal had pulled at her skin. “Shit.” He muttered.
The gun slid easily into the waistband at his back and with his hands now free, he carefully approached her. She watched him but didn’t move which he took as a good sign.
From what he could tell, the chain had been looped around her neck a couple times and then locked to a hook haphazardly drilled into the side of the closet. He was confident that he could pull it straight out of the wall if he got enough leverage.
As he moved closer, Y/N shifted to the side, allowing him to slip into the closet behind her.
The small space was absolutely rancid but he continued forward, albeit holding his breath. She blocked out the light some but he was still able to see where she was bound to the wall. Already one of the screws on the anchor was gone so gathering up some of the slack from her chain, he wound it around his hands and with an almighty tug, it came loose from the drywall.
“See, that was easy enough.” She stood stock still as he delicately lifted her bounds from around her neck, letting the metal drop to the hardwood with a clatter.
Her eyes looked down at it then back to him. “E-e-e-zzz-ee.” She repeated, her voice broken and raspy from disuse.
Immediately Carl lit up. “That’s right! Easy!” The corner of her lip turned up into what he thought was supposed to be a smile but looked more like a grimace to him.
“Carl? You’ve been up here for a while, is everything ok?” Enid called out and just like that, Y/N was once again hunched over and snarling aggressively.
“Stay there!” He called out but he was too late. The teen stepped into the bedroom, Judith still in her arms. She froze, her eyes going wide.
“Who- who is that?” She asked, almost in disgust. She tried to turn away, to somehow shield the toddler in her arms from the sight of the feral omega but as soon as Judith disappeared from Y/N’s eye-line, she let out a deep warning growl.
“Give me Judith,” Carl urged, “right now.”
“Are you crazy?” She hissed, clinging even tighter to the unbothered toddler.
“Trust me.” As soon as Judith was in her brother’s arms, the growling stopped. And when he walked closer, the scent of milk and flowers filled the room. Y/N reached for the pair of them with shaky hands, her fingers just skimming the soft chubby cheek of her daughter.
“That’s why Judy was making so much noise, she could smell her.” Said girl giggled and tried to launch herself at the omega but Carl held tight. As much as he would love to have them properly reunited, he doubted she could support Judith’s weight in her arms after not eating properly for god knows how long.
Y/N looked at Carl while grabbing his wrist. He let her pull his hand away from his sister and closer to her belly. She laid his palm flat against the top of her bump.
The baby moved under his hand, softly kicking at his fingers. Relief washed over the boy and he felt a massive weight lift from his chest. “Dad's not gonna believe this.”
It took some coaxing (ie Carl using Judith like a carrot on a stick) but he was able to lead Y/N out of the master bedroom and down the stairs. He let her cradle Judith's head between her hands as he looked outside, watching for any of those freaks that had attacked them.
Only when he was sure that the streets were properly empty did he carefully open the front door. “Come on. Enid! Let's go!” He called back but the house was silent save for Y/N's purrs and Judith's coos.
“Goddamnit.” He knew he should go look for her but he also wanted to get his mother to safety and she would not be safe in the house where someone had kept her trapped. So, he walked away, heading back towards the centre of town, hopeful that his father and Daryl had returned.
Her bare feet scraped against the concrete as she trailed behind him. While her eyes were fixed on him and the baby, Carl could see the way her nose scrunched and her head tilted, alert for any sign of danger.
“Carl!” Rick's voice echoes through the street, panicked and strained.
He looked back at Y/N who had perked up slightly, the yellow of her eyes now holding flecks of its natural colour. He chanced it. “Dad!” Rick rounded the corner, gun at the ready and with a fire in his eyes but as soon as he saw the trio, he stumbled.
Even from a distance, Carl could see the way the breath was knocked from his lungs. Like Daryl, Rick blamed himself for their omega's disappearance. He felt the weight more heavily because he was not only responsible for her but also for the whole pack, his guilt ran deep, infecting every choice he made and slowly driving him mad.
When Daryl would leave Alexandria to search for her, Rick would stay behind, forcing himself to focus on the rest of his pack. He thought that if he could protect everyone else, the guilt would wane, but it never did.
“Omega!” His voice thundered down the street making Y/N freeze. There was some sort of recognition in her posture: her head bowed, shoulders slack but her lips still curled into a snarl and she attempted to snatch Judith from Carl's arms. She only succeeded in tugging both of her pups closer to her body.
“Omega.” He repeated, this time softer and offering her his empty hands. “It’s ok, I won’t hurt you or the pups.” He bowed his head and dropped his eyes to the ground in submission.
She growled again but it was softer and more confused. “I’m your alpha.” As slowly as he could, Rick extended his left arm and presented her with his wrist. While not as prominent as his neck, his scent still bled from his skin. Her nose twitched and as she leaned forward to sniff at his offered limb while keeping her eyes locked onto him.
Her brows furrowed and she took a step closer, her hand darting out to grip his wrist. Her cold nose rubbed against his cold skin as she inhaled even more of that intoxicating scent that tugged at part of her mind.
Carl beamed when she dropped his father’s hand in favour of burying her nose into the crook of his neck. Judith gave a chirp as she was squished between the two grown-ups, still partially in her brother’s arms and her mother’s.
Rick’s eyes fluttered shut as her own scent washed over him for the first time in almost 2 months, thick with fear and apprehension but it was hers all the same. Her bump pushed into his stomach and he felt like he could cry. She was safe, she was alive and she was back in his arms.
Warmth flooded their bond, bringing a smile to his face. She licked at the mark she had left on his scent gland months ago so Rick placed his hand on her hip, gently pulling her even closer. He winced as he realised just how malnourished she was. “Let’s go get you and the baby checked out and maybe some food.”
Her eyes remained uncomprehending but she followed after him anyway, his hand held tightly in hers.
Bodies lay in the streets, both enemies and friends alike as the moans of the undead just outside the walls form a macabre symphony. Y/N snarled under her breath and cupped her stomach while Carl glanced at his father, panic colouring his features.
“Is that the herd?”
“The plan went sideways but we'll think of a new one.” Rick promised, laying his free hand on the teen's shoulder.
“Enid's gone.”
His face hardened as he replied sternly. “As soon as we have a clear path out, we'll search for her. Daryl's still out there too.” His eyes flicked back to the omega who currently had her teeth bared at the solid walls. “We'll get them all back.” And he didn't just mean those trapped outside the city.
——————
There was a haze wrapped around Y/N's mind. It was like walking through a dense fog right as dawn broke- the light just barely strong enough to let her see a few inches in front of her but every step she took forward, the world that she knew was swallowed up and forgotten. She had no idea where she was going or where she had been but the tugging in her chest pulled her ever forward.
She had brief moments of clarity, snapshots in time that only materialised for a second before the fog descended once more.
The pop of gunfire and the smell of smoke as she ran barefoot into the woods.
Blood pouring from cuts on her hands as she scrambles up a crumbling lattice, the dead reaching for her, their rotting fingers only inches away from her feet.
Feeling the babe inside her belly kick for the first time. She cries.
Two men corner her in an abandoned warehouse. Their tone is comforting but their words are garbled. She tries to speak but all that comes out is a growl.
Another man, this one bigger and meaner looking, wrapping something cold around her neck. He spits on her face before sealing her into darkness.
But none of those snapshots compared to this moment.
Reality slammed into her chest like a freight train. Y/N gasped for air as she desperately looked around. She was in a house, a nice house by the looks of it and surrounded by people she didn't recognise.
The smell of copper and death fill the cramped room as people scream at each other, their voices like nails on chalkboard to her sensitive ears. She winced and attempted to curl into herself but was stopped by her huge belly.
Something about it isn't right but before she can recall why, her attention shifts to the form on the bed next to her. He's no older than 14 but he's tall and his brown hair is long. A white bandage covers half of his face. She knew that face.
Her hands trembled as she cupped his cheek, her thumb brushing against his skin. He did not react at all, just remained deathly still before her, the only movements of his body was the steady and too slow rising and lowering of his chest.
“Carl.” The name came to her and a second later, so did everything else. “Carl?” He was so big now, already growing into his features. He looked so much like his father.
His father.
Her head shot up, eyes scanning the now mostly empty room for her alphas. The front door was wide open, letting in the grotesque sounds of flesh being sliced open and bone shattering. The darkness from outside seemed to grow with each passing second as the moans grew louder.
Y/N leaned over Carl's body as if to afford him some protection if the walkers made their way inside but deep down she doubted that she could do much besides buy him a couple extra seconds. She felt weak, she was tired and her entire being ached.
“It's ok baby, I'll keep you safe.”
Suddenly, bright light streamed through the doorway and an explosion rocked the house. Y/N whimpered and cradled her boy as the sounds of celebration overpowered all else.
“They actually did it.” A plump woman wearing glasses murmured in shock. “I can't believe it.”
As an optimistic mood filled the room, the fog began to descend once more and Y/N could feel herself slipping away. “You!” She barked at the woman who quickly turned around, her eyes wide. “T-tell my alphas that I love them.” Her words slurred and jumbled together but the woman nodded anyway.
Y/N smiled in relief. “Tell 'em to be safe.” She looked down at her boy one more time and then everything disappeared once more.
The smell of gasoline and burning bodies only seemed to add to Daryl's frustration. The past few days had been absolute hell- he was tired, hurt and so strung out he felt like anything could set him off. And that's not to mention the weird feelings that constantly flowed into him through his bond.
Fear, relief, anger, love.
All of it was just too much.
As he watched the horde of walkers burn in the lake, he was consumed by his thoughts. Nowhere was safe, death constantly followed right behind them and some part of him knew that it would always be like that, no matter how hard they tried to change things.
His thick fingers pulled at the fraying threads of the bracelet around his wrist as he thought of his omega. He pictured that she was safe somewhere, holed up in some isolated cabin that had a garden full of food or in an abandoned apartment building that she could scavenge. Carol kept reassuring him that she was alive and ok but each day that passed without him finding Y/N, he believed his friend less and less. Even the blanket they had discovered was quickly losing her scent.
He wanted to get back out there, to keep searching but he was just so tired.
“Daryl!” Rick called over the din. His voice while strained from exhaustion still carried the power of a true alpha. The younger man ignored him though as he continued to watch the slowly dying fire from atop the truck, his hands supporting his weight as he leaned back against them.
Vaguely, he could feel frustration leaking through the bond. “Y/N's here!” That snapped him out of it.
“Wha?” But before Rick could repeat himself, Daryl had jumped down, landing heavily on his already sore legs. “She's?”
His brother nodded. “With Carl but she's feral so we have to take it slow.”
“But she's-” Suddenly he felt like he couldn't speak, his guilt and relief wrapping around his throat in a tight grip.
“She's safe, the pup's safe.” Rick gestured to the infirmary and before he could think, Daryl took off running.
50 days. It had been 50 agonising, tortuous days of unknowing, of guilt and fear. Of imagining the hell which she experienced since the moment that the chain fences of the prison fell.
50 days of self-hate, of knowing he wasn't enough- not strong enough, not fast enough, not brave enough- to save her and the pup.
50 days of her haunting his every thought.
50 days.
And as he ran into the infirmary, all that time, all that fear disappeared the second he saw her again. The clock reset the moment he stepped over the threshold and her golden eyes locked with his blue ones.
He didn't care that she didn't recognise him, he didn't care that she snarled and planted her hands down around Carl's body as if he was a danger to the boy who was almost like his own.
She was alive, she was here. And that's all that mattered.
For the first time in 50 days, Daryl smiled.

The Greene farm had been your sanctuary for years, long before the world fell apart. You had lived just a few miles down the road from Hershel and his family, keeping to yourself but always there when they needed a helping hand. When the dead started walking, the farm became your refuge from the horrors outside. It was safe—for a while, at least. Then the group arrived, survivors who had been on the run, searching for shelter.
Among them were two men who had an instant, unexplainable pull on you—Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon. Alphas, you could tell, though they never said it out loud. The moment you laid eyes on them, you felt the connection. Rick, the strong, stoic leader who seemed to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders, and Daryl, the rugged, quiet hunter who preferred the solace of the woods over the company of people. And you, the Omega who had learned to survive on her own, found herself inexplicably drawn to them both.
It wasn’t long before you and Daryl grew close. It started slow—a shared glance, a soft touch. He was closed off at first, wary of letting anyone in, but you saw past the tough exterior. You saw the man beneath, the one who cared deeply but didn’t know how to show it. Daryl found comfort in your presence, the way you didn’t push him to be anything other than himself. When the two of you started spending more time together, it became clear that what you had was more than just a bond of survival. You were his Omega, and he was your Alpha, even if he didn’t have the words to say it.
The first time Daryl kissed you, it was tentative, as if he wasn’t sure he had the right to. But when you kissed him back, pulling him closer, he understood that this was real. That you were his, and he was yours. The bond between you deepened, and though you kept it quiet from the others, it was there—undeniable.
But then the farm fell.
It had been chaos. One moment, everything was calm, and the next, walkers were everywhere, overrunning the fences, pouring through the fields like a relentless tide. The group scattered, each person fighting for their lives. You had been separated from Daryl in the chaos, and for a few terrifying hours, you didn’t know if he was alive or dead. You and Maggie had fled in one of the cars, with Beth and Glenn, your hearts pounding as you sped down the road, leaving behind the only home you had known in this new, terrifying world.
The hours that followed were a blur. You kept driving, hoping, praying that the others had made it out alive. Every bump in the road felt like another step away from everything you had built, and all you could think about was Daryl—whether he had made it. Whether you’d ever see him again.
It wasn’t until you reached the highway—the place where they had once left supplies for Sophia—that you saw them. The familiar motorcycle, with Daryl and Carol riding side by side. The relief that washed over you was overwhelming. You barely waited for the car to stop before you were out, running toward Daryl, tears streaming down your face.
When Daryl saw you, he swung off the bike, and for a moment, everything else fell away. The world around you, the walkers, the destruction—it all disappeared. He caught you in his arms, holding you tight, his grip so strong you thought he’d never let go.
“I thought I lost ya,” he muttered into your hair, his voice rough with emotion. “I ain’t lettin’ you go again. Not ever.”
You held him just as tightly, burying your face in his chest. “I’m here,” you whispered. “I’m not going anywhere.”
That reunion on the highway was a brief moment of peace in the middle of the storm, a reminder that despite everything, you were still together. You had all survived. And now, you would keep surviving—together.
The group traveled for weeks after the fall of the farm, moving from place to place, scavenging for food, looking for shelter. It wasn’t until they found the prison that they finally stopped running. The prison was grim, cold, but it was secure. It gave them a place to rest, to rebuild.
But even the prison couldn’t keep the pain of the past from catching up to them. Lori’s pregnancy had been a shadow hanging over Rick ever since the fall of the farm. You had seen it in his eyes, the way he carried himself. The stress, the fear. And when Lori went into labor, it all came crashing down.
The birth was chaotic, dangerous, just like everything in this new world. Carl was with Lori in the small hole in the wall they found while running from walkers, trying to help her as best he could. But there were complications, things they couldn’t fix with the limited supplies they had. Lori knew she wasn’t going to make it, and in her final moments, she made Carl promise something no mother should ever have to ask of her child.
“Promise me, Carl,” she had said, her voice weak, tears streaming down her face. “Promise me you’ll take care of your sister. And when the time comes... you’ll do what needs to be done.”
Carl, brave beyond his years, had nodded, tears in his eyes as he promised his mother the unthinkable. When Lori passed, Carl did what she asked of him, ending her suffering and bringing Judith—his baby sister—into the world alone.
Rick was shattered. His grief was all-consuming, and for weeks after Lori’s death, he was a ghost of himself, lost in his pain. He withdrew from everyone, even Carl, unable to process the loss. You and Daryl tried to help him, offering him space when he needed it, but also letting him know that you were there for him.
It was in those quiet, lonely nights after Lori’s death that the bond between you, Daryl, and Rick deepened. The connection you had felt from the moment you met Rick became impossible to ignore. He wasn’t just your leader or your friend—he was your mate. And just as Daryl had become your Alpha, so had Rick. He was the missing piece in the bond you and Daryl shared, the one you had been waiting for without even realizing it.
Two months after Lori’s passing, everything changed. The grief that had weighed Rick down finally began to lift, and with it came a new understanding of the bond between the three of you. It started with a look, a shared glance between you, Daryl, and Rick. You had always been there for him, just as you had been for Daryl, and now, it was time for him to finally accept that he wasn’t alone.
That night, the three of you came together, not just physically, but emotionally. Rick found solace in the arms of both you and Daryl, the three of you forming a bond that was stronger than anything you had known before. It wasn’t about replacing Lori—nothing could ever do that—but it was about building something new, something that could help Rick move forward.
Daryl had been the first to say it. “You ain’t alone, Rick. We’re here. We’re your family.”
And Rick had finally believed it.
From that moment on, the three of you were bound together, not just by survival, but by love. You were mates, a family, and no matter what came next, you knew that you would face it together.
As the days passed, the prison became more than just a shelter—it became a home. Judith, Rick’s baby girl, was a reminder of everything they had lost, but also of everything they still had to fight for. You, Daryl, and Rick took turns caring for her, the bond between you growing stronger with every passing day.
There were still dangers, still hardships, but now, with your Alphas by your side, you felt ready for whatever came next. You had survived the fall of the farm, the loss of friends and family, and now, with the bond between you, Rick, and Daryl stronger than ever, you knew that nothing could break you. Together, you were unshakable.
Hope you enjoyed! Please follow, like and Reblog💜 -Midnight’s Cafe

Negan Thing
NeganxUnnamed OC
Warnings: A/B/O, mildly sexual, Alpha negan, Omega ofc

A/N: I wrote this a few years back and never did anything with it. I just figured I should post or delete and here we are.
She woke up with her body on fire. She tossed in her sheets pressing her knees together tightly, breathing in shallow breaths, praying that the minutes would pass more quickly until she could make it to Doc Carson's office hours. Last night had been bad but now- She whimpered, her clothes raking against her too sensitive skin as she dared to roll over and check the clock. 7:10. She tossed off the blankets, her body protesting each movement. Carson's opened at 8 on the dot if he wasn't hung over. An hour. She could make it an hour. She sat on the edge of the bed running her hand along the back of her neck as she rocked gently to try and ease the tension in her body.
She fell backwards across the mattress checking the clock repeatedly until it was 7:35. The walk there would take her 5 minutes at least. 7:40. She'd just wait in the hall or maybe just maybe the old man would leave the door unlocked and she could grab a bed and wait there. Anything beats the stuffiness of her room. She had to make herself stand and drag her jeans on. The rough fabric making her teeth grind together. What was wrong with her?
She pulled on her shoes and went out of her door in to the hall hugging her middle tightly as she walked down the stairs to his office. She wanted- something. She didn't know her brain felt foggy, the air too thick. Every foot step felt too slow. She made it to the Doc's office and pressed her face against the wired glass to check the clock inside. 7:50. Had it really taken her so long to pull on pants and walk here? She cursed inwardly as she rolled to the side and leaned against the cool painted cinder block wall. Now she just prayed the man had stayed sober last night.
She listened to the doors from the stairwell open and close. Feet trampling up the steps. She curled a fist and banged on the door. Her skin felt on fire. She was tired and energetic at the same time. She rolled her foot to the side to keep her body moving because when she was still everything redoubled. She was drowning.
"Doll!" Negan barked at her from the end of the hall. She winced, his voice making tension ball between her shoulder blades. "The fuck are you doing?!" He bellowed. She rolled her eyes and raised her fist to knock once more.
"Don't feel good." She swallowed thickly. "Waiting on the doc!" She yelled the last word punctuating it with a final bang of her fist on the door as if it would summon him. Negan marched down the hall his hand snagging her hip. A sharp intake of air at the contact that sent sparks skittering across her skin flooded her senses with his scent drugging her. This. She wanted this.
"Shit baby doll!" He groaned softly. She looked at him then and he cupped her face leaning his forehead on hers in an uncharacteristic sign of affection. She circled his wrist near her face with her hand.
"Go back to your room." His thumb traced her cheek to her bottom lip and she nipped at it. His hips pressed against hers shoving her against the wall. She moaned softly raising her hips to meet his.
"Need doc." She gasped when his fingers flexed. That small sensation sent the fire in her skin to pool lower in her abdomen before it rebounded. She felt it in her face, her chest, no doubt leaving her flushed.
"You don't need the doc." He ground his hips against hers hard eliciting a deep moan from her. Fingers wove into her hair pulling her head to the side so he could nuzzle her neck. "My little Omega is in her first heat." He nipped at her neck.
Her eyes shot open the information jarring her in to a semblance of coherency. She was grinding on him in the hallway where anyone could watch. "What do I do?" She whispered. She had seconds if that before his touches would drag her back under.
"Go back to your room." He pulled away from her his hips still trapping her against the wall. His hand slid from her face and hair down to her neck, a gentle possessive touch that sent heat flooding her core. "I'll meet you there soon." She raised up to kiss his jaw needing the contact and he held her in place with his hand.
"Please!" She whined. He conceded, silencing her with a rough chaste kiss that ended all too soon. She chased another from him and earned a hard look.
"You smell so good I'm about to go in to a rut. So unless you want me to take you in this fuckin' hallway, you're going to go to your room and wait for me." He pressed harder on her neck. "Am I understood?" He asked. His thumb stroked her pulse and for the briefest of seconds she didn't care where he took her. "Be a good girl and use your words." He crooned.
"Yes sir." She mumbled. He released her then taking a few steps back, and her body mourned the loss of fingers on her skin gloved or not. She turned to leave her teeth catching her lip as she sent him a pleading look over her shoulder.

Unwanted Bond

Sherrey had never been the one for him, Dwight knew that. He had loved her, of course, as much as an alpha could love an omega that wasn’t his fated mate, but he always knew that she was not the one he was meant to be with.
This became even more clear to him when he first smelled her. The tall, gorgeous, and, unclaimed omega that had been brought into the Sanctuary not long ago. Y/N.
The moment he had seen Y/N, no even before that, the moment he had smelled her, he knew. The warehouse he lived in tended to smell like wet concrete, death, blood, and sweat but the moment she had neared his proximity, he could suddenly smell the baked goods his mother used to make in their kitchen years ago when he was still a pup.
Dwight had turned around and discovered the source of this scent that felt like home immediately. He had watched her enter the building, hands tied behind her back as she was pushed forward by Simon. Her eyes had met his and for a brief moment, some sort of recognition flashed through them before she turned her head away from him again and pretended to not have seen him in the first place.
Y/N had survived on her own for a very long time. Losing both her parents at a young age and growing up in an orphanage, she had quickly learned to rely on no one but herself. Then she had presented as Omega and spent days on cursing herself and her existence. She didn’t want to be an omega. She had always hoped to be a beta. It was easier to rely only on yourself when your biology wasn’t fighting against exactly that.
She had moved into a rustic setting close to a large forest as soon as she was able to, living of what money she could make off selling her art. When shit hit the fan and the dead started walking, she had been able to stay where she was for a long time before she was forced to leave the comforts of her home and she had managed to survive for years in this new world without major conflicts.
She met people here and there but she never joined a group and didn’t want to either. There was no reason to do so. So the last thing she expected was to be captured by a group of people that called themselves “The Saviours”.
At least, she thought that was the last thing she expected. What came even more unexpected was the strange but welcoming smell of the woods outside her house just after it had rained, mixed with the smell of the leather jacket she had worn most of her life but was forced to abandon two years prior while being attacked by the undead.
She made eye contact with a lean blond main whose shoulder-length hair was covering parts of a large scar covering one half of his face. Alpha, something in her thought as she quickly looked away.
A part of her wanted nothing more in this moment than kick in the legs of the man named Simon who was leading her down the hallway and run towards the mysterious alpha that she had recognised as hers. That part of her wanted to snuggle against that man she didn’t even know the name of and purr happily. She adamantly fought back this part of her. There was no way in hell, that she would show such vulnerability. She didn’t need an alpha and most importantly, she didn’t want one.
Only betas were allowed to interact with prisoners. It was something Negan had established early on, as he wanted to prevent any alpha/omega related problems. This meant, that Dwight didn’t see the omega, his omega for weeks until she suddenly started to have guard shifts. This was the only time he ever saw her.
Dwight wanted to talk with her, of course, but he knew he shouldn’t. Not just because he somehow still felt like he was betraying Sherrey but also because he knew he was still on Negan’s shitlist. There was no way he would just hand the psychopath with the baseball bat another way to control him. No, Dwight would stay away from Y/N. He would stay away and hope that Negan never, ever found out about the connection the two of them unwillingly shared.

Summary: Merle and Jesus. Saying goodbye to your mate. Daryl goes job hunting. Rick makes a new friend...or does he? This chapter contains: men with emotional constipation, angst, and beer Word count: 3.5K Note: The nickname "Bubbie" is a gender-neutral term of endearment in the South. It doesn't have to be romantic, but it does mean to care deeply for someone. (of course, for daryl, it is romantic. our man is falling in love).

The next morning.
“I still believe in the man upstairs. Sometimes,” Merle said, taking a long drag on his cigarette and staring up at the ceiling.
“I never have,” Paul sighed, sitting on the edge of the bed, Merle sat up briefly to pass him the cigarette before laying back down.
“Don’ wanna. Like wha’s he done for me? But then I look at Daryl an’ ‘em. Sometimes things jus’ work out like tha’, like they supposed ta.”
Paul put out the cigarette in a nearby ashtray. “It’s just biology. Inherited traits handed down through DNA, trying to find the perfect match, to get the best pups.”
Merle waved his hand dismissively before throwing his arm over his eyes. “If it was jus’ about pups, why make ‘em fall in love? Single parents ain’ nothin’ ta worry ‘bout these days.”
Paul stood up and started getting dressed. “You going anywhere with this?”
“Nah. jus’ thinkin’.”
“Good. Because I have to be across campus in ten minutes and it’s going to take at least five to sign you out.”
Merle threw off the covers. “Gettin’ tired of bein’ here anyway, Jesus. Time for me to be movin’ on.”
“Fine,” Paul replied, walking off to the bathroom.
Merle pulled his clothes on quickly. He’d stayed here too long already. By the time he was dressed, Paul was out of the bathroom and grabbing his keys.
“Jus’ one thing,” Merle said, grabbing Paul by the back of the neck. “Me an’ Daryl gonna be back here on the weekends. Think ya can look after Peanut ‘til then?”
Paul slipped out from under Merle’s grip like some wily snake. “This you asking? Or them?”
“Me.”
“Already planned on it.” Paul gripped the doorknob. “Ready?”
Merle sniffed and belched. “More ‘n ready.”
The hot Atlanta sun beat down on you as you hugged Daryl.
You thought it would be easy to say goodbye. After all, you’d only known the man for two days. But now that the time had come, you could not let go.
Holding you by the waist with one hand, Daryl used his other to run his hand over your head. “‘S alright, Y/N. I’ll be back.”
You sniffed and desperately tried to hold back your tears. “I know. It’s just the omega biology. I’m okay.”
And you would be okay, right? Once he was gone, you’d have so much to keep yourself busy. Your new job, getting a head start on reading and research. Getting to know your coworkers.
“I don’ wanna leave ya either, Bubbie,” Daryl whispered, kissing you softly. “Feels like somethin’s bein’ ripped outta me.” He pressed his forehead to yours.
You gazed at each other for long, quiet moments, until the door to the building opened behind you. Startled, you glanced to see Ro as he exited the building.
“Guess it’s time,” you sighed.
Daryl’s hand slipped from you, and the loss of his touch already made you ache.
“Take this,” he said, shrugging out of his denim jacket. “Put it in yer bed later, ‘kay?”
You nodded and clutched the garment to your chest.
Daryl tried to smile at you, but all he could manage was another longing stare. He tore his gaze away and looked past you at Ro.
“Ya stayin’ wi’ ‘em today?”
You turned around.
Ro nodded. “Your brother gave me his number. In case anything happens.”
“Merle asked you to look after Y/N?”
With a nod, Ro walked forward until he was standing next to you. “You both know I was her friend before all this, right? I had planned on it since we got into the same school.” Ro smiled at you. “This isn’t the first time I looked after you, is it?”
You did your best to stop thinking about Daryl leaving and gave Ro a tiny smile. “Nope. Always a phone call or text away when I needed you. All the emergency numbers stored in your phone, no matter where I lived at the time.”
Ro turned his attention to Daryl again. “We’re a good team, and I’m a beta. They’re safe with me. Promise.”
Daryl ducked his head in a small nod. “‘M obliged,” he murmured, sticking out his hand.
Ro took it, shaking it heartily before taking a few steps back. “We’re going to be late if we don’t get going.”
You nodded, and with one last glance at your mate, you followed Ro down the sidewalk. The softness in Daryl’s eyes as you walked away was something you’d never forget.
.
Three hours later
Daryl had jobs before. He had to, back when Merle was locked up or just gone. But it had been a while. Years, in fact.
Merle was no help, either. Or at least not the help that Daryl wanted. When Daryl had asked Merle about using his contacts to get a job, Merle refused. “Ya don’ wanna get messed up in that, little brother. You’ll owe ‘em, an’ they'll come wantin’ ta cash in. Could come after Peanut.”
That effectively shut down that idea.
So, he started with a beat up phone book at a bus station just outside Atlanta. Flipping through the yellow pages, he looked for locally-owned garages and motorcycle stores. The few times someone actually answered the phone and had a job opening, they told him to apply online. But how was he supposed to do that? His flip phone had only the most basic of functions. He was ten minutes into one application before the personality test started, and trying to figure out the “right” answer was more than he could handle, especially on a small screen with only arrow buttons to navigate.
Fuck no he didn’t enjoy meeting new people. He sure as hell didn’t have excellent communication skills. The whole thing was a wash.
He was pacing outside the station, waiting for Merle to pick him up, when he stopped dead in his tracks.
On a cork board, covered in cards for churches, day cares, and cleaning services, one plain piece of paper read, “HELP NEEDED IMMEDIATELY.” It was hastily scrawled with a thick red marker.
No experience required!
Building Supervisor at the Chalet Apartments in Kings County
Qualifications:
Must live on-site.
Must be skilled in maintenance, plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry.
Must be organized.
Must be dependable.
Benefits:
Medical, dental, vision
Free board in a three-bedroom domicile (it’s a fixer upper!)
Competitive Pay
To apply, Call Randy!
Daryl tapped the number into his phone, but he was sure such a job would already be filled by now. If Daryl was qualified, then so were most other people.
But he had to try.
Three bedrooms. That meant a nest for you, and two rooms for pups. And vision insurance. He knew you’d need that since you wore glasses. It seemed perfect. Too perfect.
The phone rang only once before a voice said, “It's Randy, wha'cha need?"
“I’m--uh--’m uh--callin’ ‘bout the job. For the Chal-ettes…sir?” Daryl’s face burned with embarrassment. He should have taken a moment to plan what he was going to say. He hated talking to people he didn’t know. Hell, he didn’t even like talking to most people he did know.
“When can ya start?”
"Whenever ya need me sir, I aint got nothin' goin' on righ' now."
"You got a name, son?"
“Daryl. Dixon. Daryl Dixon.”
“Ya ever been in trouble with the law?”
Daryl sighed, somewhat relieved. “No, sir.” “You stop that ‘sir’ business, right now, Dixon. I ain’t my daddy. This a good number ta reach ya on?”
“Uh…yes.”
“Alright now. Let me tell ya this. It’s usually what sends the others runnin’. You take the job, the place is yers. It’s next to the Chalets, but set aside, see, so ya gots some privacy. But--now I’m gonna level with ya, Daryl. The place is trashed. Fella lived there before was makin’ and dealin’ meth out his ear holes. I’m talkin’ plumbing work, new carpets. Hell, new walls in a coupla places.
“But if ya fix the place up yerself, I’ll give ya the money for supplies. Thing is, ya gotta start livin’ there like yesterday. I got tenants callin’ me all hours of the night ‘cause their sink is drippin’ or they thought they heard a prowler when it was just a damn cat.
"Lord willin' I'll help ya out, boy. I'm fixin’ ta get you in there today. Pay’s good. Give ya $40,000 to start. More if ya do a good job, ya hear?”
Daryl barely kept up with the fast-talking stranger, and it took him a minute to process it all.
“Ya don’ need no references or nothin’?”
“Daryl, son, ya can’t do any worse than the last guy, and my wife and I would like a good night’s sleep sometime in this millennium.”
“Well, if yer sure…”
“I’m sure, Daryl. Well hell, I like ya already. When can ya get here?”
Daryl checked the time on the station’s analogue clock. “About three.”
“Fantastic. Got a new guy movin’ in today. He’s part o’ my whole new plan ta get this place ship-shape again. Names Grimes, local deputy. Just got divorced. Ya get here at three, and I’ll show ya ‘round the place before he gets here. Then ya can get ‘im all settled in. He’s payin’ rent at a discount on account of his squad car bein’ in the parking lot. Like I said, all part of my plan.”
Daryl threaded his fingers through his hair, yanking on it to make sure this was all real.
“I got an omega,” Daryl blurted. “They gonna live with me, if that’s alright.”
“Well sure! It's a family place. Er…well, it will be once ya get it fixed up. They got some place ta stay ‘til ya do?”
“Yeah. They’re in…college…graduate college.”
“Boy howdy! Yer making me happier than a dead pig in the sun! Comin’ to me in my hour of need and addin’ a little class to the place. So I’ll see ya in a few hours?”
“Alright, “ Daryl said. He had trouble standing still while gripping the phone.
He was going to make a home for you. Give you everything you needed, and hopefully everything you wanted, too.
Rick parked his squad car at the Chalets, as promised. He remembered the reputation it had when he was a kid. It was the place for bachelors and young married couples twenty-some years ago. It had clearly fallen on hard times. However, it would work as a temporary place until he could find a house for himself. And for Carl. Every other weekend.
He made his way to the main office, the heels of his boots clicking on the pavement. The closer he got, the more he recognized the scent emanating from the small, two-story building. The alpha from the truck stop yesterday. Surely, one of those Dixons wasn't here? That would be too much of a coincidence.
But the smell had already seeped into his bones like a hand grabbing his wrist and not letting go.
He went inside and came face to face with a dark-blonde man whose eyes were hauntingly similar to the pair in Merle Dixon’s mugshots.
The other man nodded his head in greeting. “Ya Rick Grimes?”
“Yep,” Rick smiled, jutting out his hand. This other man was clearly an alpha, but wasn’t preening or scenting the place as a show of dominance. No, the man’s shoulders were slightly stooped, and he was nervously twiddling with an unlit cigarette.
Taking a deep breath, Rick searched for the other scent trapped in his memory: yours. It was faint, but hints of mint and lavender swirled around Daryl Dixon. So, not mates, but certainly…close.
Rick ignored the relief he felt realizing that Dixon hadn’t claimed you.
The cigarette in Daryl’s hand was shoved behind the man’s ear as he shuffled papers on the nearby desk.
“I got the…uh lease righ’ here, an’ yer keys.” After a moment Daryl found what he was looking for and passed them to Rick. “Jus’ sign where it’s highlighted. I mean, ya should read it first. I would.” The cigarette was now perched in Daryl’s mouth. “Mind if I smoke?”
Daryl’s nervous energy had Rick feeling endeared to the man. Based on all the arrest reports he’d read on Merle, Daryl was nothing like his brother. And though the man was nervous, Rick didn’t get the sense he was an addict. The stopped shoulders and fleeting eye contact conveyed shyness rather than jonesing for a hit.
Taking Daryl’s advice, Rick ignored his aching feet and stood there, reading the five-page lease before finally signing.
“So, you been working here long?” Rick asked.
Daryl scoffed. “‘Bout two hours.”
“So we’re both new guys, huh?”
The other man puffed away on his cigarette, the nicotine obviously doing a lot to calm him down. “Guess so.”
“Ya got any family, Daryl?”
Dixon took a moment, squinting his eyes at Rick. “Wha’s it to ya?”
“Was going to ask you to help me carry a few boxes up to my place and pay you with beer. But if you have someone waiting for you…”
Daryl took a long drag on his cigarette before answering. “I got an omega, but they don’ live ‘ere, not yet.”
Just the simple confirmation of your existence sent Rick’s heart racing. “Not ready to give up your independence?” Rick walked toward the door, and Daryl wordlessly followed him.
“Only met ‘em couple days ago. We’re mates. Gotta get ready first. Make sure they have a safe and clean place to live.”
Daryl was quickly proving himself to be the opposite of what Rick expected. So, Rick really shouldn’t have been disappointed knowing that Daryl intended to claim you. The deputy had never met you! It shouldn’t matter to him if you and Dixon were mates. Shouldn’t matter at all.
“Never had an omega myself. My ex-wife is a beta, but we managed to make one pup, at least.” Rick unlocked the trunk, and the two men each grabbed a few boxes.
Cigarette wedged in the corner of his mouth, Daryl said, “Yeah…uh Randy tol’ me ya was divorced.”
Rick chuckled. Despite himself, he was warming up to Daryl and his matter-of-fact attitude. “Randy will tell anybody’s business without asking. He’s always been like that.”
“Ya know ‘im?”
“Since I was a kid.”
By now they had reached Rick’s apartment, and Daryl fished keys from his pocket and opened the door.
Daryl gave Rick the smallest of smiles. “He always wear that ten-gallon hat?”
Rick led the way in and, after putting the boxes on a nearby counter, realized he couldn’t stop laughing. “Man, Daryl, the stories I could tell you.”
Daryl nodded and handed the boxes over to Rick. Something about the deputy put Daryl at ease. On the way to Rick’s car for another trip, Daryl got rid of his cigarette. Rick seemed like a good dad; certainly better than Daryl’s.
As Rick chatted on, Daryl realized there was more he needed to change than just his employment situation. Since he now had a job and a place to live, other tasks loomed. He should really stop smoking, for instance. He’d managed to hold off the whole time he was at your place, but since he’d left you it was like he couldn’t stop lighting up.
But if you were going to live with him, he’d need to stop it for good. Just like Rick wanted a good home for his pup, Daryl wanted a good home for you.
A few hours later, Daryl still didn’t understand how he’d kind of made a new friend, with a cop, no less. Everything with Rick seemed easy. The usual twisting of his stomach and tension in his muscles that Daryl had around new people faded quickly as he got to know Rick.
Three beers in and Rick had told Daryl the whole story of him and Lori. And of his ex best friend Shane. Daryl felt sorry for him, he truly did. Rick and Lori weren’t mates, but it was easy for Daryl to imagine how much it would hurt to see you with another alpha, let alone a brother in arms.
Later that night, Daryl managed to figure out how to call you on his newfangled smartphone. It took him damn near ten minutes to find the right app. Randy had shown him how to use the text-messaging app. All the tenants were required to text instead of call. Kept a reliable record, Randy explained. So, Daryl had to send you a few text messages, and you helped him learn how to make a phone call.
The call went through, and you picked up right away. The moment Daryl heard your voice, he sank onto his air mattress and sighed with relief.
“Daryl, I really missed you today.’
Like a lovesick teenager, Daryl clutched his phone and sighed. “Missed you too, Bubbie. Ya doin' alrigh'?”
Excitedly, you launched into a ten-minute spiel on your entire day, from starting your GA job with the research team, to joining a study pack, and finishing up the day eating leftover pizza with Ro.
“Why are ya in a new pack?” Daryl demanded.
You giggled. “It’s not that kind of pack, Alpha. It’s just what they call study groups here: packs. And let me tell you, they take it seriously. There are snack rotations, buddy systems, quiz nights. Ro and I got kicked out of the first pack we tried. I told them I needed weekends off and they said I wasn’t serious enough about the program.”
Daryl had just listened to you passionately describe fossil records and parchments. If that wasn’t serious, then he really didn’t want to know what was.
“Daryl,” you said softly, “Did you have any luck today? Find a few places to apply to?”
A laugh escaped him. “Bubbie, I started my new job this afternoon. Got us a place an’ everythin’.”
“Y-you did?”
“Yeah, it’s the--fuck I’m goin’ ta say this wrong--the Chalettes?”
“Chalets?”
“Yeah, tha’s it.” It was Daryl’s turn to tell you about his day, ending with meeting Rick.
The concern was clear in your voice as you said, “Wait, Alpha, is it okay for you to be hanging out with a cop? What about Merle?”
Were you worried? About Merle of all people? “It’s okay, ‘Mega. He don’ know who I am. If he did, ‘m sure he woulda said somethin’. ‘Sides, he’s a nice guy. Wife did ‘im dirty, though.”
“So…you kinda made a friend today? Daryl, do you make it a habit to collect daily life-long connections? First me, now Rick?”
Daryl swore he could hear your teasing smile. “I think I’m done fer now. Got you, and Ro, too, I guess. Rick’s not a friend. We had a few beers is all.”
You hmm’ed, and a few minutes passed as you sat in easy silence.
But after a few moments, you let out a long sigh and took a deep breath. “Daryl, did you steal my underwear? I’m missing a couple. If you didn’t, and it was Merle…oh my god…please don't say it was Merle."
Daryl sat up in bed. “Calm down, ‘mega, it was me. They been in my pocket all day. Keepin’ me company.”
“Do you know how much I’m blushing right now, Daryl Dixon? You stole my underwear.”
“”S no different from me leavin’ you my jacket to sleep with.”
“I-I really like your jacket.”
Daryl grinned to himself. “Yeah, ya got it righ’ now, don’ ya? Huggin’ it an’ shit. Missin’ me.”
“Yes, I am.” Your voice was no longer light and teasing, but low and almost sad.
“I’ll be there soon as I can on Friday, Bubbie. Promise.”
You sniffed, and Daryl’s heart broke in two.
“Okay,” you whispered. “Friday.”
“Alrigh’ ‘mega. You hold my jacket and lemme tell you ‘bout this place. It’s got a big kitchen, two bathrooms. Three bedrooms. I’m gonna build ya a nest in the biggest one, alrigh’? And as soon as I get the place fixed up, won’t be no more sleepin’ alone. I’ll be with ya every night from then on. Ya hear?”
“Y-you’re going to build me a nest?” You sniffled again.
“Right under this big window. Make it nice and wide. An’ sturdy, too. You know wha’chu do to me. Need a good, strong nest so I can take care o’ ya.”
“What can I do, then? How can I help with the nest? The house?”
“I’ll need your help later,” Daryl said. “Picking out paint and carpet colors. Then I’ll need ya to strip down and lemme try you on every surface of every room.”
“You just want me for my body, is that it?” you joked.
“Nah, ‘Mega, I want all of ya.”
Daryl fished the underwear from his pocket, sniffing both pairs and then holding them to his chest. A poor imitation of the real thing, but it would have to do for now.
More notes!
@livingdeadblondequeen suggested the idea of Daryl beinga building super instead of a mechanic. It changed the direction of the story for the better.
@bringinsexybackk69, again, was my dialect coach on this. she's a native of low-country georgia and does her best to get me to be accurate (I don't always obey)
@green-eyedladywrites she/her and aggie (again) for talking me through what little experience with smartphones and the internet Daryl would have.
@littlegodzilla with her tendency to go "yes, and," as well as her constant encouragement and huge norman photo/gif collection.
Thanks for reading.

Sundrop's Spooky Fics
So because Halloween is coming up, I decided to put together a rec list of my fics that are perfect for Halloween - none of these are really directly Halloween themed, but they have Halloween or spooky vibes. I divided them up between fics that are on Tumblr and fics that are on AO3 because my account is archive locked so you do need an AO3 account to read those fics. Either way, I hope you enjoy some of these fics if it is your first time reading them!
Blood In The Water - Void!Stiles x Fem!Reader (Teen Wolf) (11,700 words)
Being Stiles’s best friend, you are incredibly worried about him when you figure out that he is quite literally not himself - and that the thing currently occupying his body could be destroying it in the process. When you approach him to show this concern, Void takes a particular interest in you. He’s not capable of love, or even fondness, but he likes you. And he likes the way your fear spikes when you talk about Stiles. So he makes you a deal - he’ll agree to take care of this fleshy, mortal host, in exchange for something more precious, more rare, and more delicious than the meal you have brought for Stiles. He wants your pain. He wants your tears. Void!Stiles Stilinski x Fem!Reader. Pining Best Friends. Extreme Emotional Angst, Hurt No Comfort. Set during Season 3 (with flashbacks to Season 1, Episode 11).
Recently posted, and one of the most 'Halloween' fics I have ever written. Very angsty, very spooky. Great if you are looking for some great emotional Halloween dread - like the kind that a horror movie would bring. It was one of my favourites to write, and I hope you guys enjoy reading it.
Precious Time Alone - Gar Logan x Fem!Reader (DC Titans) (11,800 words)
Even with the ability to see the future, you never would have guessed that your life would lead you to falling in love with the perfect man - someone sweet, caring, funny, cute. Someone with the passion and fire to protect the ones that he loves no matter what. A precious guy with green hair who had the ability to transform into a tiger at will. And when you finally made love to him for the first time, you never could have guessed how that unique ability affected his sex life. You weren’t exactly complaining, but you wished you had seen this coming. At the end of the day, it was just another thing about him to love. Or - Neither you nor Gar knew that he has the ability to knot, and you both find out for the first time when you have sex together. Gar Logan x Fem!Powered!Reader. Established Relationship. Smut/PWP. Set during Season 2, Episode 9.
I put this strictly on the list because it is in the style of A/B/O (even though it's not technically A/B/O, because the reader character is technically human) - because what is Halloween without a little monster fucking? I need to write more monster fucking lmao. Anyway, I love this fic and I love this fic so much - and I hope you will too.
Need - Daryl Dixon x Fem!Reader (The Walking Dead) (3,000 words)
Daryl comes back from a run acting strangely needy, and you find out that Zach made him jealous. (You may have to thank Zach later.) Or - Daryl fucks your brains out to prove to himself that you’re his. Daryl Dixon x Fem!Reader. Established Relationship. Smut/PWP. Set during early Season 4/The Prison Era.
What would Halloween be without some TWD? There is much 'spookiness' to this one, aside from the fact that it's technically set during a zombie apocalypse - it's just pure porn. But whenever I think of Halloween, I do get the urge to watch TWD, so I had to have my boy Daryl in here somewhere.
Damn The Man, Save The Empire (Five Nights At Freddy's) (6,100 words)
Vanessa has always taken care of you. Since the two of you were kids, she has put her neck on the line for you, and you rarely knew how to return that epic kindness. One night, while both of you are raw and on-edge, the dark cloud of your strange past looming over both of you nearly swallows both of you whole - and once again, Vanessa is right there, taking care of you. (Dark)Dom!Vanessa Shelly x Sub!Gender Neutral Reader. Toxic Co-Dependent Relationship. Smut and Angst. Takes place before the main timeline of the film.
The main spooky thing about this one is the fact that Vanessa is very much a sociopath in this, and who doesn't love a dark fantasy where a serial killer fucks your brains out. I really need to write more fics like this, because this one was so much fun to write - I love writing dark characters to their extreme.
Ghosting - Mike Schmidt x Fem!Reader (Five Nights At Freddy's) (3,700 words)
Mike has been in love with you for as long as he can remember. For about as long as the two of you have been best friends. He always thought he would have more time to work up to confessing those big, dangerous feelings for you - until something more dangerous swooped in and stole any time he had left with you. Mike Schmidt x Fem!Reader. Star-Crossed Lovers. Pure Angst. Set during the events of the movie.
Again, this is one that brings horror movie dread - I think that angst is really great for Halloween, especially because this is based off a great Halloween movie. This won't be for everyone because it doesn't have a happy ending, but if you are looking for something very angsty, I hope you enjoy reading this.
These next ones are on AO3, and like I mentioned, my account is archive locked, so you will need an AO3 account to view these fics. But I think they are really great and deserve a shout out too. Also, these fics don't have covers that have been made by me (except for one lmao) - so thanks to Tumblr's gif search system for these ones.
Hold Me Tight Or Don't - Glenn Rhee x Fem!Reader x Maggie Greene (The Walking Dead) (7,200 words)
Everyone should get one last wish. Right? Well, that’s not exactly something you wanted to be thinking of in the middle of a musty old prison library when you have a pack of Walkers crawling up your ass. But you’ll work with what you’ve got. And you have the loves of your life at your disposal and the remaining time that God has given you. Glenn Rhee x Fem!Reader x Maggie Greene. Established Relationship. Major Character Death. Smut and Heavy Angst. Set during Season 3, Episode 4.
This one I put on the list because of the mixture of angst, gore, and smut. I love fics that have a mixture of gore and sex (it's something that I really should do more often) because I feel like sex and death really have such a natural relationship. And this one, unlike the Daryl fic, really brings the zombie aspect to the forefront. It's one of my favourite fics I have ever written, and I think it is perfect for the spooky Halloween mood.
No Brainer - Derek Cho (Steven Yeun) x Fem!Reader x Melanie Cross (Samara Weaving) (Mayhem (2017)) (7,100 words)
When the ID-7 Virus, aka the Red Eye Virus hits Towers and Smythe Consulting, it throws the entire office building into chaos. With a mandatory quarantine from the CDC in action, that chaos builds in on itself, and somehow, you, Derek, and Melanie get everything that you want. aka You have something Derek and Melanie need. Derek and Melanie have something you want. You all agree to make an exchange, and everyone ends up more than happy. Derek Cho (Steven Yeun) x Fem!Reader x Melanie Cross (Samara Weaving). Strangers to Lovers. Smut. Set during the canon of the film Mayhem.
This one is perfect for Halloween because it's based off of an amazing horror movie. Also, it's no coincidence that there's two Steven Yeun fics on fics on this list. He looks really good covered in blood.
Arms Tonite - Bee (Samara Weaving) x GN!Reader (The Babysitter (2017)) (2,100 words)
Sunrise is fast approaching with every second that ticks by - another second you spend with Bee, another second you lose in the fight to gain more time with her. The deal you had made was impossible to complete, and the Devil was eager to get his claws on your immortal soul. But of course, Bee was brewing up some plans of her own. Bee x Gender Neutral Reader. Friends to Lovers. Angst/Horror. Set outside the events of canon.
This was one of my first shorter fics, and I am still really proud of it. Also, it's great for Halloween cause it involves literal human sacrifice. This was actually one of my first fics to experiment with major gore and violence elements - which was largely inspired by the film. And I would love to write a longer (smut) fic with Bee sometime. I love her character so much and I feel like she is so underappreciated.
Very Good Bad Thing - Antisepticeye x Fem!Demon!Reader (8,200 words)
Valentine's Day is a busy time for you, seeing as you're a sex demon, and you close most of your deals when people are feeling lonely and vulnerable. Of course, Anti just had to interrupt you. To give you his stupid... "present". Anti x Fem!Reader. Exes to Lovers/Frenemies. Smut and Gore.
So, technically this is a Valentine's day fic - because I got the idea that I wanted to post a seasonal fic on Valentine's day on one of my old blogs and this monstrosity came to mind. But this fic is a heavy mixture of gore and smut, so I feel like it would be perfect for Halloween too. This is actually my first ever smut fic that included any gore (and it's my only youtuber ego fic, though I would like to write more of them, because they are so much fun) - and I had so much fun writing it. I love writing about demons and characters who are amoral on their basis, because there is no rules. And that just makes it so much fucking fun.
Anyway, if you read any of these fics, I hope you enjoy them! And I hope you have fun and have a great Halloween!!

The Trial
Michonne had gotten Carl to smile again and for that, Rick would be eternally grateful. It had been hard seeing the boy so heartbroken, he had already been through so much, lost so many people that the beautiful smile that looked so much like Rick’s only appeared on the rarest of occasions.
Daryl walked silently beside him, the joy radiating from the boy barely breaking through the huge wall of ice he had built between himself and everyone else and Rick knew why, it was the same reason he constantly had a pit in his stomach, an overwhelming sadness invading his soul. They hadn’t found her.
The change in her scent became prominent about one month after her heat had finished. It became more milky and flowery instead of the usual vanilla and with a quick exam done by Hershel, it was confirmed. She had been pupped. Daryl had hugged her tight and hadn’t let go for a solid four hours after she told him. Both alphas had stepped up and agreed to be the father of the baby, no matter who had sired them, though each had a secret hope that it was their own pup in her belly.
That night, Rick asked her to mark him. It was rare for an omega to claim their alpha but not entirely unheard of. “We are equal omega. We’re partners and I want to prove that.” The alphas let her take the lead. For the first time, they allowed her to ride them, to control the pace as she sank her teeth into their mating glands. It was perfect.
Everyone doted on her constantly, the anxiety from Lori’s unfortunate pregnancy rearing its ugly head once more. But with almost daily checkups and the best prenatal Daryl could scavenge, people settled down and the excitement of another pup became palpable. Y/N often had to escape back to her nest to get away from people who wouldn’t leave her alone. Carl or Judith went with her if her alphas were busy, the former being greatly excited at the prospect of being a big brother again, even if he didn’t outwardly show it.
Things were amazing until the sickness came. In a single night, an entire cell-block was dead and even more infected. She and Judith were immediately rushed into isolation, Carl begrudgingly staying by their side, even if he was chomping at the bit to help his father. Then, just as hope rekindled with Daryl finding the life-saving medicine, the Governor returned.
Through the madness of the firefight and waves upon waves of the undead, the pack was separated and presumed the others dead. Rick and Carl had found Michonne, then Daryl, then Terminus happened.
Terminus burned behind them as they walked through the woods, the sounds of the explosions still ringing in their ears. “It’s right here.” Daryl pointed out the place where they had hidden their guns before being captured, and quickly dug them up.
Rick wanted to go back, exterminate the rest of them, but looking at his pack, his resolve wavered. They all looked so tired, covered in walker guts and sweat, and they were completely unarmed and unprepared if that hoard decided to make its way back towards them. Part of him knew he was just angry he had let someone take advantage of him and they all nearly died as a result. He knew that he just wanted to go back and see if you had been there, if she was one of the unfortunate souls being lured into the trap of perceived safety.
Daryl could sense his distress, and knew they were both feeling the same thing. “We gotta stick together.” His shoulders slumped and he ran a hand over his face. “Fine, we just need to find shelter for the night, then we move on.” The creaking of branches behind them had Daryl whipping his head around, only to be met with the sight of the matriarchal omega awkwardly standing between the trees, his crossbow in her hand.
He ran at Carol, embracing the older omega as Rick walked up cautiously behind him. “Did you do that?” His southern twang is more prominent with the emotion of finding another pack member. She tearfully nodded and embraced the other alpha, he quietly spoke into her neck. “Thank you.” As they separated, she looked up at him, a small spark of joy lighting in her gray eyes. “You have to come with me.”
As the pack came over the hill, they were met with the sight of Tyresse walking out of a dilapidated cabin, baby Judith tucked safely in his arms. Rick immediately dropped his weapon, almost stumbling in his hurry to get to his daughter, Carl and Sasha following closely. The alpha pulled the pup from the beta’s grasp, almost collapsing to the ground with sheer relief.
He held both of his children close, vowing never to let them from his sight ever again. The pack watched on, small smiles coming over their faces at the reunion. However, a sour taste built up in the back of Daryl’s mouth. His omega would’ve never left Judith alone, she was her baby just as much as the one in her belly. “Where’s my omega?” He growled.
Carol’s smile dropped as her trembling fingers reached into her pocket. “I’m sorry, this was all I could find. It was outside the prison.” In the palm of her hand was the small friendship bracelet he had given to the younger woman when they were courting. The blue threads, picked out specifically because they matched his eyes, were dirty and covered in brown blood. The little sunflower charm which Rick had given her to put on it, was scratched up and also stained red.
Daryl felt his heart shatter in his chest. He fell to his knees, the bracelet clutched tightly to him as he howled in pain. She was gone, his omega dead, his pup dead. Rick’s head shot up, eyes widening as he felt the heartache through their bond. His brother was near hysterics, crumpled on the ground, the trail of tears creating clean tracks down his face.
It was jarring to see the normally stoic hunter display so much raw emotion. Carol tried to wrap an arm around his shoulders but he shook her off, snarling, his inner alpha telling him that she was going to take the last thing remaining of his omega. Everyone backed away from him while Carol lowered her head in submission, not wanting to upset him further.
A little chirp broke him from his grief. Rick knelt in front of him, hand on his shoulder as Judith reached out and touched Daryl’s face. Her big eyes seemed to stare into his soul as her chubby hand, still miraculously covered in baby fat, stroked his cheek. Rick tilted her forward so she could crawl into the archer’s strong arms, resting her head on his collarbone. The scent of milk and flowers comforted him, it was the same smell she had.
He could vividly remember being curled up with her in her nest, the late afternoon sunlight making everything warm and calm, her scent permeating his senses, making him forget the horrors of the world for just a moment. He held Judith tight to his chest, her breathing settling him. “She’s-“ His voice was broken, weak.
Rick sighed. “I know but we need to keep going. When we find somewhere safe, then we grieve but we have to keep going. It’s what she would’ve wanted.” He was just as heartbroken as his brother but as the head of the pack, he wasn’t allowed to be weak, not anymore. The shock of Y/N’s death would hit him in full later, but for now, he shoved those feelings down as far as he could, taking the other man in his arms for a brief moment. “We’ll be ok.”
——————
Daryl fiddled with her bracelet which he had tied around his own wrist. The building horde of walkers that had been behind them was setting him on edge. He knew that all of them were too tired, too dehydrated to deal with them, so they just kept walking, hoping for some sort of reprieve.
They had been on the road for weeks, slowly making their way to D.C. The losses of Tyresse and Beth weighed heavily on all of them. Sasha seemed to be teetering on the edge, with Bob and Tyresse gone, it seemed there wasn’t much for her anymore. Daryl knew without Rick and the pups, he would be in the same position. He probably would snap soon, his alpha was constantly tearing at the barrier he built in his mind. He was grieving and in pain but Rick was right, that didn’t matter at the moment.
Michonne had been trying to keep the kids distracted through all of it. Her bond with Carl let Judith warm up to her as well, and through some bad jokes and silly faces, she got them to smile. Those smiles lifted a weight from Rick’s chest even as the stress of passing through the high walls was creating a dark feeling in the pit of his gut.
Alexandria felt like a joke. How could one community survive all of this practically unscathed when everyone else had lost so much. Christ, even the people in here didn’t know how to deal with walkers. It was too much like the old world, too safe. The people were too nice, too comfortable.
It was almost voyeuristic, the way Deanna filmed all of them, asking invasive questions while relaxing on her couch like it was normal. “I’ve noticed you and Rick both have a mating bite.” Daryl subconsciously pulled his vest tighter over the juncture where his neck and shoulder met, shooting her the dirtiest look he could muster. “Are you two a pair?”
“Don see how that’s any o yer business.” She shrugged and crossed her legs, relaxing further into the couch she was sitting on.
“The two of you are close. It was only a natural question to ask.”
“Yeah well ya don need ta know.” Deanna raised her hands in surrender.
“Fine. I think we’re done here anyway. You can go.” He practically vaulted over the desk in his attempt to leave and rejoin the group. He felt trapped in this stupid house, in this community.
By the way Rick was standing, shoulders slightly hunched, vein in his forehead popping, and avoiding his brother’s eyes, Daryl knew he was asked a similar question about his mark. With a silent nod, the alpha told his lesser they would discuss it later when there were no prying eyes or ears. They were naked without their weapons, even within the obviously strong walls, all of the survivors were unsettled.
Daryl’s blue eyes constantly scanned the surroundings, unconsciously pulling his shoulders back so his chest was fully inflated, making him look bigger. Aaron walked out of the house last, Deanna standing in the doorway, observing the pack dynamics of the group.
She could see the pairs, Glenn and Maggie, Abraham and Rosita, but with the two lead alphas, there was a piece missing. She knew their bites couldn’t have been from each other, it was too small but they were identical, obviously having been done by the same person. Her chest ached at the thought, she was fiercely protective of her own omega and couldn’t imagine what she would do if she lost him.
Maybe they could restart here. Get some kind of comfort from the safety of the walls, keep the pups safe. They would be an asset once they settled. Aaron led them away, towards the empty houses in the back of Alexandria, she’d drop by later to check in on them.
The yowling coming from below the building Aaron had identified as the infirmary, was off-putting. It sounded almost pained. “I’m sorry about that.” Aaron seemed almost bashful as he walked the group by the house. “Who’s in there?” Rick was on edge in this new environment, and the strained screams set him off even more.
“We’re not sure. Eric and I found her about a month back. She’s pretty much feral but no one wants to give up on her.” Yet, Aaron didn’t stop, he led them on like a museum tour guide. No stopping for questions, don’t touch the exhibits. They were led to the outskirts of the town, far enough away from the others that they couldn’t pose a threat, but close enough that they could be watched. “Here’s where you can stay tonight, Deanna will find jobs for you all so you can spread out a bit more.” Carol took the lead as they filed in.
“Thank you so much for this, it’s nice to finally feel safe.” Her head was bent demurely, fingers twisting around each other, a shy smile on her face. Aaron seemed to relax a bit with her admission, laughing awkwardly and rubbing the back of his neck.
“It’s really no problem. You folks have a good night.” Daryl recoiled at his friend’s crocodile tears, he wouldn’t admit it, but her suburban housewife act was thoroughly disturbing. Rick gave the recruiter a nod of thanks. Aaron positively beamed at her sentiment. “I’m glad I could be of help.” With a polite nod, he left the pack to their own devices. As soon as the door was shut, all eyes snapped to Rick.
“We need our weapons back.” Maggie leaned against the kitchen counter, Glenn sliding his arm around her, kissing the small claiming mark on her shoulder. “We need a plan.” He added.
They all gathered around the brand new kitchen, still wary, and slightly offset by the cleanliness of the house. Eugene unconsciously stood near Abraham and Rosita, as Michonne took her place beside Carl and Noah. Rick and Daryl were at the front of the group, the latter's eyes still darting around, trying to assess possible threats.
“It’s a smart idea for us to be in the same house, at least for tonight.” Stick together, no one goes anywhere without a buddy. The rules were the same as the outside, that’s how they would stay safe and more importantly, not lose anyone else.
They spoke in quiet whispers, too worried about listening ears and watchful eyes. And yet, Rick looked around his pack and noticed the exhaustion that seemed to settle over them like a raincloud. He sighed as he watched Carl’s head nod forward for what must’ve been the tenth time, his sheriff hat almost slipping off.
“We need ta get some rest. Daryl and I will take first watch.” Surprisingly, there is no fight. Michonne slipped Judith from his hold and led the others to the living room, they followed obediently, too tired to argue. But Carol stayed behind, still at her place by the kitchen entryway.
She looked so much older now, her eyes darker with a pain neither man could understand. “Just these walls won’t protect us and you know that. These people are too ignorant of the world out there.” Daryl crossed his arms over his chest, his omega’s bracelet catching the fading light of the sunset.
To think yourself safe and protected after all this time with only a 15 foot steel wall and a gate keeping out the world was foolish. It had been almost 2 years since the world fell, there was no telling how many walkers were out there now, how many Terminuses, how many Governors. The people of Alexandria were delusional and that made them dangerous.
Rick crossed his arms over his chest, chancing a brief glance at his partner before turning back to the omega. “We need proper weapons. Guns. But Daryl and I can’t go out, it’ll be too suspicious to have two alphas roaming around after dark.”
Carol smirked, her lips turning up in a small smile that Rick knew well. “But a meek omega looking around, needing some air, wouldn't call any attention.” Immediately Daryl answered.
“No.” His answer was final, no room for debate. But she ignored him, instead, she did up the buttons on her shirt and smoothed down her hair. It was almost magical the way she shrunk in on herself, the fierce lioness they knew so well disappearing behind hunched shoulders and downturned eyes. But to Rick, she looked like a predator waiting to pounce.
“I’ll be back in an hour with whatever weapons I can get. Don’t wait up pookie.” And she slipped out the door, quiet as a mouse.
Rick could hear the others settling down in the large family room, Judith making little squawks in response to her older brother’s muttering. It was a comforting white noise, the pack was alive, they were protected. “I don like when she does tha.”
The lead alpha clapped Daryl on the back as he walked past, smiling to himself. “C’mon we all need some rest.” With one last glance at the door, the archer followed.
——————
None of the pack could sleep. It was surreal to be safe for the first time in forever, to have access to (hot) running water, ready food, and actual beds instead of the flimsy mattresses in the prison, or even just the ground. But now, after being freshly showered with a roof over their heads and food in their bellies, sleep wasn’t coming.
Daryl was leaning against the entryway to the living room with Rick, watching over their pack as they settled. Rick couldn’t help but smile as he watched Carl play with Judith on the floor. The pup was smiling and giggling at her older brother who was leaning over her cot, fist clenched tight around his index finger, laughing every time he moved which caused her pudgy little arm to shake up and down, shaking her whole body.
“We’re safe here right?” The alpha wondered aloud, rubbing his freshly shaven jaw. Daryl only grunted in response. “We need somewhere to stay. If we can get back those weapons, we have a chance here. A real chance to live.”
“But can we do it without her?” Their hearts ached. It was finally settling in, that they were alone again, that they lost something they would never find.
“She woulda liked it here.” Daryl picked at his nails, still caked in dirt.
“Yeah she would.” The hope that the city had given him earlier was quickly dying as he got lost in his thoughts. Rick finally allowed himself to breathe. He couldn’t hold it in any longer, the tears quietly slipped down his cheeks as he thought of her, of her last moments alive. Were you trying to run? Trying to find him and Daryl? Did she fight through the hordes? He couldn’t stop the flashes of images behind his eyes if he tried.
Her smiling face. Walkers devouring a body. Her body arching in pleasure below him, sweat dripping down her skin. Dead hands clawing, pulling her apart as she screamed for him. The way she practically glowed in the moonlight as she danced with him on the farm. He knew Daryl could feel everything he could through their shared bond, he focused on the good, how she would run to him every time she saw him, how she coddled her pups.
The hunter’s fists clenched tightly into fists and his jaw locked. Rick opened his mouth to apologise but then, the front door swung open, revealing a greatly disheveled Carol.
“Carol?”
“Rick, Daryl. You need to come with me now.” She was trembling with excitement and fear, a little smile breaking through her usually schooled expression, her white hair mussed up from running her fingers through it.
“What’s goin’ on?” Rosita’s voice was thick with sleep, rubbing her eyes as she leaned against the fireplace where she had set up. Glenn and Carl also looked up, one of the last few still on guard.
“Please, just, I need you to trust me. This is important.”
She turned to leave once more but Daryl grabbed her arm. “Tell us.” None of them heard the creaking of the floorboards until another voice spoke from behind the matriarch.
“I hope I’m not interrupting.” Deanna stood in the doorway, her expression guarded, locked onto Carol. “I just wanted to see how you were settling in.”

The biblical end times - Millennium.
A future vision of the 1000-year reign of Christ. TOWL 103
So, I've always said that TWD is using the bible and very specifically the biblical end time events as a template for the show.
Episode 3 didn't disappoint in giving us some major biblical end times symbolism.
Overall, the whole premise of The Walking Dead is in fact biblical.
The concept is just a reworked version of fallen humanity in need of a saviour/cure.
The Zombies are a representation of fallen humankind, walking around, unaware, that they are the walking dead.
As Rick says, "We're all infected," and death without a cure brings about a state of undying permanent death.
Knowing this is the template they are using can really unlock the symbolism in the show.
It also guarantees that they will eventually bring a cure, through most likely Beth who has been marked as Jesus.
I've already talked about how the CRM rings are a depiction of the Trinity. They are called Borromean rings. They symbolically represent the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. So CRM=God.
103 TOWL gives us a glimpse into a shadow of the future.
We see Rick enter into the "Millennium park"
What is the biblical millennium?
It's described as the thousand year reign of Christ when he returns. It begins after the battle of Armageddon.
The millennium is a time when the earth is restored to a garden of Eden like state. (The beginning is the end, and the end is the beginning)
Hence, the focus here, as Rick is about to enter, is on a garden/park, and it's all powered by the CRM (God)
We even get a representation of the Trinity in the wind turbines powering the garden, all while the millennium park sign is in the background behind Rick.
It's a time of abundance and peace.
Again, the focus when Rick enters is also on the abundance of produce, and yes, we instantly see a Beth (Christ) lookalike.
With French beret...
Jadis gives us more hints about this millennium. She says they have a 500-year plan to remake the world better than before.
To recreate the world and finally beat death.
Since the millennium is known as the 1000-year reign of Christ, and we just saw the millennium sign, plus a Beth (Christ) lookalike. Jadis' "besting death" comment is drawing from this bible verse...
1 Corinthians 15:54-57 O Hades, where is your victory? ' The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Jesus Christ has conquered death.
Before Jadis entered into the millennium, she explained that she would take lost souls and give them to the CRM (God).
Now, if you remember back to Daryl Dixon episode 1, it's called Lost Soul (Lame Perdue), and Daryl's journey has very much been a spiritual journey to find Beth, just like he found Isabelle in that lost soul episode.
It's also why the episode Find Me with Leah was all about finding Beth.
or...as Aaron puts it. "Good news."
"I have Good News"
I've mentioned before how Aaron saying the term "good news" right as the music box plays is SIGNIFICANT.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ means Good News.
So, finding Jesus Christ is finding the "good news" and, by extension, Beth. That is why Aaron says those exact words when the music box plays.
Daryl, as the lost soul, is on a journey to find the "Good news." 🎶 🎵 📦
Jadis mentions quite a few more biblical references before the end of the episode, including saying...
"I'm a believer", and "We're the last light of the world" 🌎
We also see the consignee talking with Michonne, saying they are on the doorstep to paradise. (The millennium)
The separation of the sheep 🐑 and the goats 🐐
One other aspect of the millennium they are reworking in TOWL is the theme of the A's and B's.
There are conditions of entry into the millennium kingdom after the battle, and it's known as the separation of the sheep 🐑 and the goats 🐐
The idea of A's and B's comes from this verse...
Matthew 25.31
All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.
The sheep, the followers, or believers will be granted entry into the Millennium after the battle of Armageddon.
And no surprise, we see Jadis and Rick walk past a sheep 🐑 sign to add another link to the chain.
Goats are not allowed into the kingdom.
In this context, being a goat or "Greatest of all time" indicates a mindset of thinking you are god, and want to be in power, or be the leader.
Which is why Satan fell and got kicked out of heaven in the first place. He wanted to be God...
Isaiah 14.13
You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. 14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High."
It's also why you may have seen Satan represented by the symbolism of a goat 🐐 or Baphomet.
The A & B theme has a dual and opposite meaning.
While we have been presented with its meaning in the show being related to the A's = Strong/leaders and the B's = Survivors/followers.
It's actually another take on the conditions of entry into the millennium kingdom.
Only the B's or Believers will be able to enter and will be the ones who live...
While the A's or Apostates/goats won't be granted entry.
The battle of Armageddon that proceeds the millennium.
The reason it's called the battle of Armageddon is because the battle will take place in the Valley of Megiddo.
You have already seen a depiction of the battle of Armageddon in TWD. You just might not realise it, I'll show you soon...
The battle of Armageddon is where the nations of the earth gather to try and destroy God (CRM)
Revelation 16.14
Demonic spirits, performing signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, to assemble them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty.
Revelation 16:16
Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.
In season 9, we saw the last battle against the Saviours, and it was a representation of this battle. The Saviours war was fought in a representation of that valley.
They chose that filming location to depict the Valley of Magiddo.
After the battle, Satan is locked up for the 1000-years.
Here is one verse they are pulling from about Satan, the 1000-year millennium at the end of the battle.
Revelation 20.1-6
And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended.
So... Satan is bound and locked up for the 1000 years (goats won't enter) after the battle of Armageddon, which he loses.
After the war with The Saviours, who got locked up and spent a long time locked away in the "pit"?
Negan!
Yes, Negan was symbolically Satan. His weapon of choice is called Lucille, a play on Lucifer.
Not long after that battle, and Negan getting locked up, Rick gets taken away into the millennium...
Now, just like Negan was let out of prison, Satan, too, is released after a long period of time.
Revelation 20:7 When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison.
So, Negan getting out of prison was a rework of Satan getting released.
Thoughts on...
The cure - Echelon - Phamakon - Mark of the Beast.
The Echelon briefing will be related to a cure, and it's connected to pharmakeia or pharmacy (a drug).
Again, as I've mentioned, we are repeating seasons 1 and 5 combined.
The CDC in season 1 of TWD, was a failed hope for a pharmacological cure that ends up burning.
Whereas season 5 gave us Beth as Christ sacrificing her blood.
As i mentioned above, Jesus defeats death. Is the cure through death and blood sacrifice, and in the show that will come through Beth.
That cure will grant entry into the millennial kingdom.
So there will be two "cures" presented. One will be real, and one will be fake or poison, as Major Beale said to Rick.
Phamakon means cure AND poison, and they are related to the word pharmacy.
The thing is, if the biblical end times is the template they're following, and it is, then there is another kingdom at play here, the Millennial Kingdom of Christ and the other kingdom is the kingdom of the beast.
The kingdom of the beast is the ruling kingdom prior to the millennium, it's this kingdom that causes the world to come and fight against God in the battle of Armageddon.
The two kingdoms are mirror inverted images of each other.
The other condition of entry into the millennium is to have NOT taken the Mark of the Beast - the mark of the Antichrist.
Revelation 20.4
I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
The mark of the beast is forced on all people of the world prior to the battle of Armageddon...
Revelation 13:17
And it makes everyone — small and great, rich and poor, free and slave — to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark: the beast’s name or the number of its name.
During the kingdom of the beast or the Antichrist kingdom, if you don't receive the Mark of the Beast, you won't be able to buy and sell, and you will be killed. Ultimately you won't be a part of the Antichrist Kingdom if you don't bow the knee and become a follower.
Its the inverse to the millennium kingdom where you will also have to be a follower.
The conditions of entry are almost identical into each kingdom but one will bring a real cure while one bring a poison.
The Kingdom of the antichrist also has a trinity, it includes the Antichrist, the beast and the false prophet.
Antichrist kingdom ♾️ Millennial kingdom.
This episode (103) is called "Bye", a callback to Beth's "Glad I didn't say goodbye" remark, but it's also a hint at buying and selling aka the mark of the beast.
Here we see in the millennial kingdom a sign depicting buying, selling and trading, of the abundance of produce available to those who were granted entry into the kingdom. The condition of entry again was to take the real cure and be a follower of the real Christ (Beth)
In complete opposition and fulfillment of beginning to end, the beast kingdom will only allow in those who bow to the fake cure and the fake Christ, but it's a poison...
When Major Beale mentioned Pharmakon, my eyes 👀 flew out of my head because of this verse from the book of Revelation...
Rev 18.23
The light of a lamp will never shine in you again; and the voice of a groom and bride will never be heard in you again. All this will happen because your merchants were the nobility of the earth, because all the nations were deceived by your sorcery.
The word “sorcery” used here is translated from the Greek word pharmakeia. This is where we get our word pharmacy.
The bible mentions powerful people using Pharmacy and deceiving the whole world just before the millennium.
So, while a pharmacy drug will be presented as a cure, it will actually be a deception. Like Major Beale said, Pharmakon cure is poison.
Revelation 19.20
And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.
Just like in season one at the CDC, it's false hope of a cure burns. 🔥 🔥 🔥 Along with the mark of the beast.
We did get two hints at the CDC, one of the real cure and one of the fake cure BTW.
Dr Jenner says a blood test is the condition of entry.
So...blood is the condition of entry 🤔 that will come through the blood of Christ.
We see a representation of this with Andrea (Beth) giving blood. She's the only one we actually see giving blood.
We also saw a representation of the fake cure and it's end result. When Dr Jenner locks them in the CDC he presses 3 digits on a keypad.
999
Revelation 13:18
This calls for wisdom: Let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, because it is the number of a person. Its number is 666.
Him locking them in (The beast Kingdom) activates the self destruction that leads to the CDC burning.
Revelation 19.20
And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.
It is not a coincidence that the outbreak that causes the end of the world, began with a drug in the form of an injection...and the CDC burns 🔥 after a failed attempt at a cure.
💉 👀 beginning to end.
Now, this show likes to repeat, reverse, and invert the story over and over.
They are giving a mix of this end time symbolism to both the good guys and the bad guys deliberately.
But we will eventually see all groups come together to fight the CRM.
We are on a collision course with a bigger, badder, and better version of that battle of Armageddon, but this time with Beth included.
Because yes, this story is still all about her.
I liken her to the Holy Ghost of the Trinity right now. Because even though she's not present on the show, if you're aware, she's influencing every aspect of it.
Jesus Christ (Beth) is coming soon.
