Menstruating is a crazy experience cause you're just like, going about your day while bleeding out like it's no big deal

I find that using more neutral language such as "people who menstrate" isn't just inclusive of trans people who fit the prerequisite condition, but also cis people. Saying something like "only women menstrate" ignores that many people start menstruating well before they are socially and legally recognized as adults. And obviously, this goes beyond menstruation; it includes pregnancy, certain cancers, and these things aren't barred by gender or (necessarily) sex assigned at birth. Neutral language for all bodies benefits trans people, intersex people, and cis people (younger and older) alike.

Just had some people sit next to me. A guy and a girl. They were on the topic of menstruation.
The girl likened periods to a once a month oil change. No truer words.

When I was younger, I asked my grandma why women have periods, and she told me that it was gods punishment to all women for Eve taking the Apple from the snake.
Like, wtf? Why do I have to suffer for something Eve did? I wasn’t involved 😭

Cups are the Best Way to deal with ur period: for anyone who has one (but I'm focusing on trans men because I am a trans man) (TW for anatomical terms and mild sex talk)
Let me explain. First of all, you may be wondering what a menstrual cup is. They're also called diva cups and they're essentially a tiny silicone cup that you fold up, put inside your vagina with your hands (although there is one version I've heard of that uses an applicator) and it pops open to catch the blood. When you need to remove it, you pull it out, dump it out into the toilet and put it back in. You can sterilize it between periods by boiling it for a few minutes in water.
First and foremost, cost and environmental concerns. You can buy one of these for $20-30 or less and reuse it for 10+ years. One site that sells cups (YUUKI if you're interested) gives a 2 YEAR warranty on their products and says that as long as you don't break the cup somehow you could theoretically use it for the rest of your life. By far the most cost effective method, AND you never have to go to a store aisle and buy tampons or pads as a dude ever again if you don't want to. But you may be wondering, "random dude on the internet, what about overnight? It goes inside you so obviously you'd need to buy pads anyway for overnight."
WRONG.
You can keep it in for 12+ hours safely. It's safe to wear overnight. "But I bleed a lot, it wouldn't work for overnight?" WRONG again these things have the capacity of like 4 tampons. AND they come in sizes, there are bigger ones and smaller ones depending on what you need.
They also reduce the intensity of cramps for some people due to the way they seal near the cervix.
If you like having sex, the cup is entirely internal: there's no string, just a little nub thing at the bottom of the cup, so you can easily get head with no blood in the equation. Some people even say you can have PIV sex with the cup in with minimal issues. I've never tested that but it seems like there's a separate thing called a menstrual disc (I have no experience with those) that do totally allow no-blood PIV sex.
Due to the fact that it's entirely internal, there is no annoying ass little string bullshit in the way when you pee. You can basically put it in and forget entirely about it for 12 hours.
Don't like feminine packaging? There's companies that do very neutral packaging. Don't like overly feminine colors and designs? A lot of cups are clear. Hate how fucking bad it hurts to have to pull out a dry tampon? That problem does not exist with cups. You can also buy a cup at CVS or other drugstores, some grocery stores even stock them.
You don't have to wear any specific type of underwear to make this comfortable; You can wear it to swim, wear it with no underwear or with boxers, it's not going to affect the usability at all.
Literally the only downside is that there's a learning curve for using one of these things and you have to be somewhat comfortable with touching the anatomy you have at least twice in a 24 hour period, and you need to be OK with looking at blood. I recommend the youtube channel Precious Stars Vlogs if you need help with learning how to use one.
Here's some links to places that sell fairly gender neutral cups:

Tumblr media
Translated via google:
"I love the fact that SWK is Trans or genfluid (And possible canon in JTTW apparent) No wonder he was offended when they gave him the job in the stables (In ancient China they used to say that they blessed the horses when they menstruated) and since our favorite little monkey over the years had to take on a ''male'' role all the time when he became a legend, those 500 years of isolation were possibly a respite. I imagine in the fic I'll still do that bad practice while Mr. Wu takes a break (Although I've read that macaques it's difficult to know their sexual dimorphism, unless they are mothers, I imagine that SWK doesn't need any breast surgery , because it is Extra or because it is ''flat as a board'' Cup A)"
I actually didn't know about the menstration = blessing horses lore! That makes a lot of sense why Wukong would get mad at Heaven for giving him such a role. I can imagine him learning of this superstition from another stablehand, and just quiting on the spot. Especially when he learns that "female" roles and jobs aren't valued as much as "male" roles in the Jade Court (based on imperial china).
Then after letting him back in; they gave him the same job as a"Peach Maiden" - just with the title scratched out like he wouldn't have noticed. -_-
Primates like monkeys go through menstration like humans; meaning that Wukong likely has a great deal of knowledge of how to treat the symptoms just by growing up around so many adoptive mothers and sisters. I feel in his time at the palace, he made many female friends just by being attentive to them when they were due.
And since many wild monkey species (especially macaques like Wukong is supposed to be) are matriarchal; it confuses Wukong even more that women in the Celestial Realm aren't given the same level of respect as men. He probably has insulted the Emperor by asking to speak with the Queen Mother before him; "Let me speak with your Woman King. What do you mean "women don't rule"? She's clearly the one in charge. What sort of troop is this?"
So when the pilgrims openly accept Wukong as male, he's so happy he could explode. It also gives him more confidence to explore how he expresses his gender indentity through transformation.
While macaques dont have as obvious dimorphic traits as humans, I feel like Wukong's chest is more obvious than Macaque's is. He's not ashamed of his chest at all, even if it has grown along with his "dad bod" + pregnancy. Monkey Yao simply do not have the same hang-ups about breasts or menstration than most humans/celestials. Macaque is more shy about his chest cus he raised closer to humans and celestials norms also it's for Wukong's eyes only.
An interesting piece of lore! One of The Monkey King's permanent injuries was a stab in his breastbone/collarbone during his capture by Erlang Shen:
Tumblr media
From this lore, I hc that Wukong is actually missing a breast, or one has been heavily scarred over. I feel like he jokes that Erlang "owes him a new boob" in good humor. Or jokes that he "bets his last titty" on something.

I love that we’re actually talking about periods and depicting them as natural, normal, and healthy in kids tv! I love that kids are going to grow up with at least some good depictions and representations of getting periods so it won’t be as new or scary to them! I guess I’m personally still just getting used to it.

Also if I ever got cramps like the ones I got right before last Halloween (I felt like I was dying and my mom was contemplating taking me to the er because at that point she couldn't tell if it was just awful cramps or I burst a cyst or something) being with Nat would be the best😭👉👈💖 The soft warm cuddles, concerned girlfriend, staying up together, if it comes to it her driving me to the er and trying to distract me and make me laugh while we're there😭👉👈💖

on one hand i absolutely do NOT want to fear monger abt estrogen cream bc god knows trans guys deserve to have a healthy vagina and to enjoy penetrative sex if they want it but on the other hand I wish it had been mentioned to me by literally anyone that it could, not likely, but still could fuck with my T, so I could have been ready when my period came back out of nowhere instead of booking it to the doctor thinking I was fucking DYING

How am I literally always caught off guard by my period and how emotional it makes me right before?
Like it's even worse to realize that I intentionally do not put birth control into my meds one week a month so that I know what week I am having my period.
And yet... Every time. I am surprised. Each time I have no idea why I'm suddenly having such a bad time.

PMDD (Post Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder)
[CW menstruation, mental health. Quoted source altered to be trans-friendly] [artist imagery created in response to artist’s own experiences dealing with PMDD]
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a health problem that is similar to premenstrual syndrome (PMS) but is more serious. PMDD causes severe irritability, depression, or anxiety in the week or two before your period starts.
Tumblr media
Symptoms of PMDD include: Lasting irritability/anger. Feelings of: despair,  suic*de, or anxiety. Panic attacks. Mood swings. Lack of interest in daily activities & relationships. Trouble thinking/focusing. Tiredness/low energy. Food cravings/binge eating. Trouble sleeping.
Tumblr media
Researchers do not know for sure what causes PMDD or PMS. Hormonal changes throughout the menstrual cycle may play a role. A brain chemical called serotonin may also play a role in PMDD. Serotonin levels change throughout the menstrual cycle.
Tumblr media
PMDD affects up to 5% of [menstruating people] of childbearing age. Many [people] with PMDD may also have anxiety or depression.
Tumblr media
Treatments include: SSRIs, birth control pills, stress management.

Thanks for reading. ♥ I never see anyone mention this, I thought I'd say something.
Personal notes: I have found the supplement "Jubilance" (oxaloacetate) to be a huge help. Not a total fix, but a great relief. And therapy helps me a lot, too! Track your cycles, too!!
