Satirical and surreal play by Arthur Ellis, dealing with the manner in which the British police force has been represented on TV for four decades. In 1949 Tom Riley is arrested for the murder of PC George Dixon. As he awaits interrogation at the station he is mysteriously transported into an episode of The Filth - a 1988 police series where the hard men rule. This black comedy questions whether the police have changed or is it the way film and television present them.

Absolute madness this. Basically Life on Mars but actually good, great even.

OMG I have to say that Russian Holmes 2013 is my favorite adapted Holmes TVplay ever. It's just perfect (except the romance between Holmes and Irene Adler, I still couldn't believe Holmes CAN love any woman)

I particularly love Watson. Watson is a brave, tough and gentle man. He was a sodier, with Holmes being obnoxious and disliked sometimes, he can be agressive and punch Holmes in the face; he is also so gentle that he will take good care of Holmes after punching him. He is exactly the Watson I imagined when read books. Unfortunately most Watson in films are described either boring or dumb. He is never just a follower of Sherlock Holmes. He's his friend and he is as great as Holmes.

And Holmes in this show is even more cute. He truly is annoying at times but you can't get really angry about him. That Holmes in novel could be cold, but not this Holmes. When watching the show I even doubt that if Watson hide the real Holmes away on purpose and present us with that colder one.

Inspector Lestrade is also great. Unlike in BBC Sherlock and the old Russian Holmes, this Lestrade has more dominant personality. But he's still faithful and brave and care for Holmes. I just love him.

Sin Bin "Screen Two" - George Case (1994)

Mitch - a male nurse in a mental hospital (Pete Postlethwaite) - witnesses another member of staff (George Costigan) savagely beating a patient after an altercation. His daily life becomes a nightmare as he struggles with the moral implications of his silence in the aftermath of the incident. 

This isn't a film/play that pulls punches or preaches. It's a dark, harrowing descent into murky world of lost souls and corrupt systems at the centre of which is a sterling Pete Postlethwaite torn apart from all sides just trying to do the right thing. Backed by a more than capable supporting cast (though Bob of Rita and Sue fame is a bit cartoony...not just because he's got a massive mullet either) this is some quality TV from a bygone era. 

Check it out.
